HANSELL—Marty Dale Burroughs, 49, of Hansell, died
on Monday, November
3, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 7, at
the Hansell United Methodist Church in Hansell, with Rev. Julie
Poore-Christensen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hampton
Cemetery at a later date.
Marty was born on July 25, 1954 in Hampton, to Maynard and
Dorothy (Becker) Burroughs. He graduated from the William Chrisman
High School in Independence, Missouri. Marty served with the U.S.
Marines. He was employed by Dumont Auto Parts for 14 years.
Marty was a member of the Hansell United Methodist Church.
Mechanic work and reading were among his favorites.
Survivors include his brother, Monty Burroughs of Hansell;
and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
grandparents.

Dorothy Cable

ELDORA—Dorothy Maxine Cable, 86, of Eldora, died
on Tuesday, November
4, 2003, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Following cremation, memorial services will be
held on Monday, November 10,
at 1:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora, with
Pastor Anne Lippincott officiating. Burial will follow in the
Eldora City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Candace
R. Cable-Feldon Memorial Fund established at the Hardin County
Savings Bank.
Dorothy was born on July, 16, 1917 in Iowa Falls, to Frank and
Elma (Janssen) Anderson. She grew up on a farm south of Iowa
Falls and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1934. She
attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1938. On August 11,
1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth Cable in Kansas
City. The couple made their home in Eldora. She taught school in Owasa, Steamboat Rock and Eldora, retiring in 1981.
Dorothy was
a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eldora and a
member of the Alpha Club. When her children were young, she was
active as a leader for the Cub Scouts and 4-H club.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Cable and wife,
Nancy of Elk Grove, California and Andy Cable of Eldora; seven grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rachel Anderson of
Iowa Falls.
The Creps-Abels Funeral Home is in charge of

SPIRIT LAKE—Marlyn Eugene Mossman, 74, of Spirit Lake, died
on
Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls,
South Dakota.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 10, at the Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with burial in
the Lakeview
Memory Gardens Cemetery. Marlyn was a 30-year veteran of the
Iowa Highway Patrol.

Donald Hugh

ACKLEY—Donald Hugh, 63, of Ackley, died on Thursday, November 6, 2003,
at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, November 10, at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley, with Rev.
Patricia Conner officiating.
Donald was born on February 7, 1940 in rural Cedar Falls at the family
farm, to Fred and Alice (Sells) Hugh. He was employed as a hired
hand and at the canning factory in Ackley. Donald enjoyed
gardening, old western and scary movies, fishing, photography
and wildlife.
Survivors include his significant other, Elizabeth Hardwick of
Ackley; two daughters, SuEllen Shaffer and husband, James of
Fayette and MaLinda Reynolds and husband, Michael of Boone; two
sons, Israel "Izzy" Hugh of Eldora and Donald Hugh Jr. and wife,
Donna of Sibley; two grandchildren, Nicole Reynolds of Boone and
George Hugh of Sibley; one brother, Louie Hugh and wife, Linda of
Ionia; and five sisters, Joann Mayfield and husband, Larry of
Cedar Falls, Lois Bertram and Ida Folken, both of Parkersburg,
Betty Richter of Minnesota and Faye Bass of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Julia Weers and Francis Hugh.

Betty Ostebee

ELLSWORTH—Elizabeth "Betty" Ostebee, 80, of Ellsworth, died
on
Saturday, November 8, 2003, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa
Falls.
A mass was held on Tuesday, November 11, at the St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Williams.
Betty was born on June 11, 1923, to Edward and Katherine (Vierkamp)
Wilmer in rural Hamilton County. She farmed west of Alden. On
December 29, 1971, she was united in marriage to Orval Ostebee and
moved to rural Ellsworth. Betty was a member of the St. Mary's
Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir. Music, farming and
her family were her main interests. Betty participated annually
in the Neil Miller Steam Engine Show at Alden.
Survivors include her husband, Orval; one sister, Mary Wilmer
of Ellsworth; and eight nieces and nephews, including Patty Lord
and husband, Ted of Iowa Falls and John Wilmer and wife, Sandy of
Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one
great-niece.

Donna J. Doyen

WELLSBURG—Donna J. (Johns) Abbas Doyen, 71, of Wellsburg, died
on
Saturday, November 8, 2003, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 11, at the Wellsburg
Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Donna was born on March 1, 1932, to Robert and Luella (Lang) Johns
at Ackley. She attended the Colo High School, graduating in 1950.
Donna was employed by Lenox Manufacturing in Marshalltown. In
1952, she was united in marriage to George Abbas in Ackley. The
couple moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she was employed by Boeing
Aircraft. They later moved to Chicago, Illinois while George
attended mortuary school. After a year in Lake Mills, they
bought a funeral home in Denver, the Matthias-Abbas Funeral Home,
which they operated together. Following the sale of the funeral
home, they lived in Ackley for one year before purchasing a
funeral home in Grundy Center, the Ferree-Abbas Funeral Home, which
they operated until 1969. On June 6, 1970, Donna was united in
marriage to John Doyen at Wellsburg. Donna helped with the
family business, Doyen Funeral Home until 1986, at which time
they retired.
Donna was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed
Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She
enjoyed music and animals.
Survivors include one daughter, Monica Kruse and husband, Bob of
Conrad; one son, Joseph Doyen of Wellsburg; three
step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Marvin "Bud" Johns and wife, Lorna of Des Moines and
Douglas Johns of Colo; two sisters, Charlene Tanner and husband,
Tom of Washington and LaVonne Johnson of Iowa City; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George
Abbas; her husband, John Doyen; two brothers, Paul Johns and
Robert Johns Jr.; two sisters, Grace Sietsema and Pearl
Thompson; and two siblings in infancy.
The
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg, was in charge of

Lenora Conrad

GILBERT—Lenora Virginia Conrad, 77, of Gilbert, died
on Sunday,
November 9, 2003, at her home.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November
12, at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with burial in the Gilbert
Cemetery.
Lenora was born on December 9, 1925 at Dows, to Gerald and Vera (Davis)
Whipple. On January 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert
Conrad in Hampton. The couple moved to Ames in 1957. Lenora was
a homemaker and was employed by the Mary Greeley Medical Center in
Ames for 15 years.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Conrad of Kelley and James
Conrad of Story City; five brothers, Wilbur Whipple of Hampton,
Merle Whipple of Geneva, Virgil Whipple of Hampton and Roscoe
and Verle "Butch" Whipple, both of Dows; five grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Robert; and twin brother, Lorenzo "Bud"
Whipple.

Francis Lehman

Francis Lehman, 60, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday,
November 11, 2003, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 15, at
the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel, with the Reverend
David Gobelli officiating. Burial will follow in the Friends
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., on
Friday evening, at the funeral home.
Francis Kay Mauderer, was born on December 22, 1942 at Iowa Falls,
Iowa, the daughter of John and Lena (Sunken) Mauderer. She
attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools. She was married to
Amos Keck on December 12, 1974 at Iowa Falls. To this
union three children were born, John, Linda and James. The
couple was later divorced. She then was married to Norman T.
Lehman on July 17, 1974 in Spring Valley, South Dakota. To this
union one son was born, Norman. Her second husband passed away
on December 26, 1976. She was a homemaker all her life.
Francis Lehman is survived by one daughter, Linda Brannick and
husband, David of Iowa Falls; three sons, John Keck of
Rockford, Illinois, James Keck of Storm Lake and Norman
Lehman of Newton; one step-son, George Lehman of Clarion; three grandchildren, Justin Brannick,
Corey Keck and Tatem
Lehman; three step-grandchildren; and one brother, Arnold Mauderer of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; one
sister, Betty Neef; and one brother, LeRoy Mauderer.

Lorraine A. Schroeder

ELDORA—Lorraine A. Schroeder, 74, of Eldora, died
on Tuesday, November
11, 2003, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15,
at 10:30 a.m., at the
First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with
Pastor Mary Stonebraker of the St. John's United Church of Christ in
Ackley officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City
Cemetery.
Lorraine was born on June 20, 1929 in Pomeroy, to William and
Tillie (Rietmeir) Jesse. She was raised near Palmer, where she
graduated from high school in 1947. On July 5, 1947, she was
united in marriage to John Henry Schroeder. They lived in
California for a short time while John was serving in the Navy,
returning to Iowa following his discharge. The couple farmed in
the Palmer area for several years before moving to Eldora in
1963. She was employed by Dodger Industries until she opened Busy
Bee Day Care out of her home, which she operated for 40 years,
closing last November.
Lorraine was a member of the First
Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. She was a
member of the Eldora Women's Bowling Association and the State
Women's Bowling Association and was recognized for her 40-year
perfect attendance record for Tuesday league bowling. Needlework
and elaborate Christmas light displays at her home were among
her favorites.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Henning and husband, Jeff
of Eldora and Cheryl Aswegan of Little Falls, Minnesota; one son,
Dennis Schroeder and wife, Ann of Eldora; three granddaughters;
and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one
brother, Robert Jesse; and one son-in-law, Ronald Aswegan.

Dale W. Anderson

DOWS—Dale Woodrow Anderson, 90, of rural Dows, died
on Tuesday,
November 11, 2003, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m., at the First
Lutheran Church in Dows, with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
Burial was in the Otis Grove Cemetery, rural Dows. Memorials are
suggested to the Bremwood Children's Home in Waverly or to the
donor's choice.
Dale was born on September 28, 1913, on his parents' farm in Oakland
Township, rural Popejoy, to Gerhardt "G. M." and Rose (Edvenson)
Anderson. He attended and graduated from the Popejoy High School. On
August 22, 1942, Dale was united in marriage to Erdene Bertilson
at Dows. He farmed in the Dows area throughout his entire
farming career, raising crops, cattle and pasture-raised hogs.
Dale was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where he was a
former Luther League sponsor. He had served on the Farmer's
Co-op Board. Reading was of great interest to Dale.
Survivors include one son, Arne Anderson and wife, Cindy of Dows;
one daughter, Ruth Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one
granddaughter, Kari Ricke and husband, Ted of Williams; and one
grandson, Mark Anderson and wife, Heidi of Polk City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erdene; and
two sons in infancy, John Warren and Paul Gerhardt.

Leo N. Miller

HAMPTON—Leo Nielsen Miller, 74, of Hampton, died
on Wednesday,
November 12, 2003, at the Hampton Care Center in Hampton.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, November 14, at the St. John's Lutheran Church,
rural Hampton, with Rev. Mary Peterson officiating. Burial was
in the church cemetery.
Leo was born on September 15, 1929 at Hampton, to Ezra and Agna
(Nielsen) Miller. He was raised in the Hampton area and
graduated from the Hampton High School in 1949. Leo served with the
U.S. Army during the Korean War. On August 1, 1954, he was united
in marriage to Janice Rodda at Newell. The couple farmed in the
Hampton area. Leo was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and
the Farm Bureau. Dancing, music, playing the keyboard, spending
time with his grandchildren and farming were of special interest
to him.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; one son, Curt Miller and
wife, Debra of Hampton; two daughters, Elise Henkels and husband,
Steven of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Kristie Shaffer and husband,
Stephen of Hastings, Minnesota; one brother, Armond N. Miller and
wife, Bev of Newton; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Regina M. Ferguson

RADCLIFFE—Regina Marie Ferguson, 87, died on Thursday, November 13,
2003, at the Colonial Manor in Zearing.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, November 17, at the St. John's United Methodist Church in
Radcliffe, with Pastor Dana Williams officiating. Burial was in
the Radcliffe Cemetery.
Regina was born on October 14, 1916, to Carl and Ollie (Garret) Bales
in Green Castle, Missouri. Her family moved to Eldora when she was
young, and it was in Eldora that she received her education. On
July 1, 1938, Regina was united in marriage to Muriel (M. R.)
Ferguson in Yuma, Arizona. The couple traveled the southern states,
as Fergie was foreman for the Rural Electric Association (REA),
installing highline across the states to the west coast. In
1943, they moved to Radcliffe, where Regina worked for the
Chatterbox Cafe, Swede Thorson's Drive-In, Iowa State University
in Ames and the food department of the Eldora Hospital. She also
served as janitor at the Methodist Church and was caretaker for
her parents.
Regina was a member of the St. John's United Methodist
Church in Radcliffe, where she had been involved in United
Methodist Women and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a
member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 317 of
Radcliffe.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Adolph and husband,
Robert of Kimball, Minnesota; one son, George of the Maple Manor
Care Center of Aplington; four grandchildren, Kenneth and Teresa
Ferguson of Nevada and Ray and Jerry Adolph of Kimball; and
three great-grandchildren, Tabrie, Magen and Abbey Ferguson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one
sister, Frankie Ford; and two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth
Bales.

Bessie M. Paullus

SUN CITY, Arizona—Bessie M. Paullus, 79, of Sun City, Arizona,
died on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at the Sun City Health Hospice
Care Center in Sun City West.
Funeral services will be held on Friday,
November 21, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Hampton,
with Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday,
November 20, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in
Hampton. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Bessie was born on February 13, 1924 in Iowa Falls, to William and
Effie (Brockway) Brass. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High
School. On April 6, 1946, she married Ralph D. Paullus at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed near Hampton
for 23 years. They purchased the Hampton Tax Service in 1970,
where she was secretary. In 1989, they moved to Sun City. Bessie
participated in Mother's Clubs and TTT. For several years she
was the secretary for the Franklin County Fair. Bessie enjoyed doing
volunteer work at hospitals, the Welcome Center and the Sun
Dome. She was an active church member, serving as chairperson of
the ushers and kitchen workers.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph; one sister, Helen
Bretherton of Bossier City, Louisiana; three daughters, Diane Samsal of
Bloomington, Minnesota, Linda Schomburg and husband, David of
Rosemount, Minnesota and Peggy Rodemeyer and husband, Jeff of Mesa,
Arizona; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother,
Lyman.

WEBSTER CITY/KAMRAR—Anna Janes, 97, of Iowa Falls and
formerly of the Webster City, Williams and Kamrar areas, died on
Saturday, November 15, 2003, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday, November 19, at 1:30 p.m., at the Community
Church, Kamrar. Burial will be in the First Presbyterian Church
Cemetery, Kamrar. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Anna was born on November 5, 1906 at Kamrar, the daughter of
Cornelious C. and Tempka (Van Langen) Naber. She attended the
Kamrar Community Schools. On September 12, 1928, she was united in
marriage to Ollie "Dutch" Janes at Kamrar. Anna farmed with her
husband near Kamrar and then southeast of Williams. She retired
to Webster City. She was a member of the Community Church,
Kamrar.
Survivors include her daughters, Margie Tjarks and
husband, Donald of Iowa Falls, Ruth Silvest of Radcliffe and
Ilene Draper and husband, Dwayne of Webster City; a son, Merlin Janes and wife, Ver Jean of Alden; 19 grandchildren; 33
great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Gladys Naber and Judith Naber, both of Webster
City, Stella Spieker of Iowa Falls, Helen Janes of Webster City
and Ella Janes of Britt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Jennie
Naber; her husband; three brothers, Gerit, William and Oltman
Naber; three sisters, Grace Vandeventer, Lena Peterson and Ollie
Klaver; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Janes and Elsie Janes; and
one son-in-law, Raymond Silvest.

WELLSBURG—Stacey Lea Van Heiden, 44, of Wellsburg, died
on Sunday,
November 16, 2003, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Memorial
services were held on Friday, November 21, at the St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, rural Wellsburg, with Pastor Mark Kvale officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may by directed to
the family.
Stacey was born on November 19, 1958 in Grundy Center, to Lavern and
Kay Van Heiden. She attended school in Wellsburg, graduating in
1977. She attended Drake University for two years. Stacey was
employed by Principal Financial Co. for 20 years, working in the
insurance section as a claims adjuster. She moved back to
Wellsburg in 1997. Stacey was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran
Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Erin and Devin Higgins at home;
her parents; one brother, Lance Van Heiden and wife, Cindy of
Wellsburg; and three sisters, Marsha Van Heiden of Wellsburg,
Paula Klosterboer and husband, Larry of Newton and Sarah Wagner
and husband, Todd of Grundy Center.

Duane L. Fiscus

Duane Fiscus, 82, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Monday,
November 17, 2003, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20,
at 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Iowa Falls, with burial
to follow in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday,
November 19, from 2-8:00 p.m., at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel, with the family receiving friends between 6-8:00
p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Duane L. Fiscus. was born on October 12, 1921 at
Parker, South Dakota, the son of Floyd and Hazel (Hulett) Fiscus. He attended
and graduated from the Parker Community Schools, with the class
of 1939. He then attended the Central Iowa Business College,
Marshalltown, graduating in 1940.
After his graduation he was employed by the Kiowa Corporation of
Marshalltown, until his induction into the Army. He served with
the United States Army during World War II from October 19, 1942
to November 10, 1945 and served basically as a ammunitions
transporter in Central Europe and the Rhineland, receiving two bronze
stars for those campaigns. He was united in marriage to Phyllis
M. Cox on October 7, 1950, at the First Baptist Church, Iowa
Falls, Iowa. To this union four children were born, twins Jeff
and Judy, Sharon and Karen.
After his discharge he began
farming in the Alden area and settling on a farm three miles
south of Alden. Duane was active in farming since 1946. He
was chosen a Master Swine Producer of Iowa by the Swine
Producers Association in 1966 and received the Hog Pace Setter
award from the National Livestock Producers Association in
1967. He served on the Alden School Board for 14 years and had
served as treasure and president. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, serving as a past Trustee, Moderator
and Sunday School Teacher. Duane was also a member of the Collins-Dunning
American Legion Post #201, Alden.
Duane Fiscus is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Iowa
Falls; son, Jeff Fiscus of Alden;
three daughters, Judy Mentzer, Sharon Ites
and husband, Bud and Karen Hoelscher and husband, Bruce, all
of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren, Michael Mentzer and wife,

ELDORA—Inger Marie Noelck, 86, of Hampton, died
on Wednesday, November
19, 2003, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m., at
the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Hampton, with Rev. Jon Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hampton.
Inger was born on January 20, 1917 in Audubon County, to Simon and Astrich (Arnvig) Faaborg. She graduated from
the Kimballton High
School and Grand View College in Des Moines. On March 15, 1941,
Inger was united in marriage to Emil Noelck in Audubon County.
She was employed as a country school teacher, nurse's aid and a
cook at Jennings Bakery, the Gold Key and the Franklin General
Hospital. Inger helped her father with farm work while growing
up. She enjoyed living at Beeds Lake and watching the wildlife
there. Growing flowers, baking wedding cakes and making
kransekage for family events were among her favorites. Inger was
a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Emil; two sons, Ivan and wife,
Karen Noelck of Hampton and Carl and wife, Rhonda Noelck of
Belmond; one daughter, Jane Overturf and husband, Roy of Nashua;
one sister, Edna Jacobsen and husband, Dick of Gig Harbour,
Washington; one brother, Otto Faaborg and wife, Shirley of Ames; seven
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sigrid
Riddle; and two grandchildren, Tony and Karie.

ELDORA—John A. Graff, 93, of Eldora, died on Wednesday, November 19,
2003, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 10:30 a.m., at

Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splettt officiating.
Burial will be on Saturday, at 2:00 p.m., in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery,
north of Iowa Falls.
John was born on January 10, 1910 near Geneva, to Andrew and Alma (Kloetzer)
Graff. He attended country school at Maysville near Geneva. On
June 18, 1936, John was united in marriage to Delores Trost. The
couple farmed near Geneva, raising livestock and horses. They
moved to Eldora in 1982 following John's retirement. He was a
former member of the Grant Center Lutheran Church, rural Iowa Falls
and was currently a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of
Eldora.
Survivors include four daughters, Joan Whitten and husband, John
of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jean Gehrke of Eldora, Janet Bloomfield
and husband, Butch of Sparks, Nevada and Julie Sturm and husband,
Gary of Eldora; two sons, Dennis Graff and wife, Velda of
Reynolds, Nebraska and Andrew Graff and wife, Mary of Geneva; one
sister, Martha Heimbuch of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Delores;
granddaughter, Amy Graff; five sisters, Dorothy Heinzeroth,
Minnie Meyer, Helen Muessigman, Bertha Graff and Frieda Graff;
and one brother, Andrew Graff.

OWASA—Margaret Joan Trampe, 74, of rural Owasa, died at her
home on Monday, November 24, 2003.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, November 29, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Baptist
Church in Steamboat Rock, with Pastor Harrison Lippert
officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Township Cemetery,
rural Owasa. A memorial fund has been established.
Margaret was born on September 16, 1929 in Steamboat Rock, to Hie and
Minnie (Harms) Folkerts. She received her education in Steamboat
Rock and graduated from the Steamboat Rock High School in 1947. On
November 16, 1951, Margaret was united in marriage to William E. Trampe in Steamboat Rock. She was employed by
the Barnard Implement
and Owasa Cooperative Elevator Co. as a bookkeeper, retiring in
1999. Margaret was a member of the First Baptist Church and was
active in the Dorcas Society and needlecraft club. Bowling,
cooking, baking and canning were among her favorites, in
addition to being with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, William; one son, William Trampe
and wife, Sandy of Steamboat Rock; one daughter, Retta Mitchell
and husband, Michael of Sac City; seven grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; two brothers, Dean Folkerts and wife, Eleanor
of Barron, Wisconsin and Harold Folkerts and wife, Audrey of Eldora;
one sister-in-law, Marlene Blaeske and husband, Bill of Eldora;
and two brothers-in-law, Richard Trampe and wife, Joan of
Waukesha, Wisconsin and Gordon Trampe of Springville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister-in-law,
Eunice Folkerts.

Henry G. Anders

HUBBARD—Henry "Hank" G. Anders, 89, of Hubbard, died
on Monday,
November 24, 2003, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora,
after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 28,
at the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard, with Pastor John Attaway officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Henry was born on October 29, 1914, to Daniel and Martha (Brinkmeyer)
Anders. He grew up on a farm southwest of Hubbard and attended
country school through the eighth grade. On February 18, 1945, he
was united in marriage to Wilma Smith of Iowa Falls. The couple
moved to Hubbard in 1967, after farming near Hubbard, at which
time he opened a welding and machine repair shop. In 1979, he
retired and was elected to a three year term on the Hubbard
Chamber of Commerce. Henry served as Mayor of Hubbard from 1980-81 and served as treasurer of the Hubbard Lions. He was a
member of the Garden City Elevator Board and Iowa Blacksmith and
Welders Association and Local 203.
After Henry's 65th birthday,
he was able to enjoy three RAGBRAI trips with his family
members. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time
with his family and friends. Henry was pleased to be chosen as a
model for the chainsaw "Farmer" sculpture, located near the
Hubbard Care Center. He was a lifelong member of the Zion United
Church of Christ.
Henry is survived by his wife, Wilma of Hubbard; three
daughters, Suzanne Weires and husband, Jim of Ames, Lynne Zagar
and husband, Phil of Huxley and Ruth Boullion and husband, Mike of
Iowa Falls; and one son, Louis Anders and wife, Denise of Lake
City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Shirley Ziebell and Elaine Eller, both of Hubbard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dale,
Wendell and Kenneth Anders; and two sisters, Lucille Bogardus
and Regina Johnson.

Orville N. Gaulke

IOWA FALLS—Orville Newton Gaulke, 98, of Iowa Falls, died
on Monday,
November 24, 2003, at the Heritage Care Center at Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 28, at the Bethany Lutheran
Church, Iowa Falls, with the Reverend Brian King officiating.
Burial followed in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Franklin
County.
Orville was born on July 29, 1905, on his parents' farm in Morgan
Township, the son of Theodore and Sarah (Bauge) Gaulke. He
attended the Dows Public Schools, graduating with the class of
1923; four years at Ellsworth College, graduating with the class
of 1927; and also the University of Iowa, Iowa City, receiving
his master's in business. On May 2, 1925, he was united in
marriage to Vera L. Smalldridge at Webster City. Orville taught
at Modale, Owasa, Pontiac, Illinois and Kenosha, Wisconsin; and then
took a professorship with his alma mater, Ellsworth College,
Iowa Falls from 1947 to 1970 when he retired. He was a member
of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons, Alan Gaulke of Iowa Falls, Maurice
Gaulke and wife, Marlene of Ackley and Richard Gaulke and wife,
Sharon of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Avron Gaulke and wife, Marianne of Clarion; and one sister, Donnabelle Rosburg of San Pablo, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; one
granddaughter, Mary Kay Gaulke; two sisters, Edna Bauge and Inez
Bailey; and four brothers, Harry, Lewis, Leo and Fay Gaulke.

ELDORA—Lawrence A. Struck, 86, of Eldora, died on Wednesday, November
26, 2003, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, November 29, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church
in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will
follow in the Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Eldora.
Lawrence was born on Mary 24, 1917 in rural Hardin County, on his
grandparents' farm, to Frederick and Martha (Jeske) Martin. He
was raised on a farm near Hubbard, in Pleasant Township.
Lawrence received his education at the Goose Creek School. On January
18, 1942, he was united in marriage to Clara Uden in Prosser,
Nebraska. Lawrence was a farmer and resided his entire life in
Pleasant Township, Hardin County, and lived on a farm southwest
of Eldora from January 1942 until his death. He was a member of
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora.
Survivors include his wife, Clara; one daughter, Thelma Kruts
and husband, Richard of Roca, Nebraska; two sons, Roger Struck and
wife, Kathleen of Eldora and Victor Struck and wife, Mary of Mt.
Morris, Illinois; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and
one sister, Gertrude Taber of Steamboat Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers,
Clarence Struck and Martin Struck.

MARSHALLTOWN—Helen Arlene Simcox, 89, of Marshalltown, died on
Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center
in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, at
the Liscomb Church of Christ in Liscomb, with Pastor Helmer Peterson
officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the Rose Hill Cemetery
in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Helen was born on August 19, 1914 in Liscomb, to Delbert and
Josephine (Smith) Hilsabeck. She graduated from the Liscomb High
School in 1934 and later attended beauty school. On October 10,
1936, Helen was united in marriage to Lewis Simcox in Bethel
Grove. She worked as a beautician and in the office of their
business, Simcox Realty in Marshalltown.
Helen was a member of
the Hillside Church of Christ in Marshalltown and former member
of the hospital auxiliary. For the past several years she has
lived in the Southridge Nursing Home.
Survivors include her son, Joseph A.; two sisters, Reba Harris
and husband, William of Omaha, Nebraska and Janet Stackhouse and
husband, Richard of Marshalltown; one brother Gerald Hilsabeck
and wife, Janet of Liscomb; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lewis; her parents;
step-mother, Olive Hilsabeck; and one sister, Louise Harris.

HAMPTON—Wilma E. Fredericks, 90, of Hampton, died
on Wednesday,
November 26, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in
Hampton.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 2, at
the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Hampton, with Rev. Karl Bollhagen officiating.
Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery.
Wilma was born on May 14, 1913 in Latimer, to George and Martha
(Lemke) Meyer. She was raised in the Latimer area and attended
the
St. Paul's Lutheran School in Latimer, graduating in 1927. On
October 3, 1934, she was united in marriage to Clarence Fredericks
at Latimer. Wilma was employed as a nurse's aid at the Hampton
Care Center and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in
Hampton.
Survivors include two brothers, LeRoy Meyer of Idaho Falls,
Idaho and Gerald Meyer of Detroit Lakes; and one sister, Joyce Braton of Hawley, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence;
one daughter, Janice; one brother, Melvin Meyer; three sisters,
Leona Abbas, Idella Holand and Donna Mae Eid.

ELDORA—Lucille T. Foster, 88, of Eldora, died on Friday, November 28,
2003, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, December 2, at the Ivester Church of the Brethren,
rural Eldora, with Pastor Timothy Button-Harrison, Pastor Mary
Jane Button-Harrison and Pastor Marlene Neher officiating.
Burial followed in the Eldora City Cemetery. A memorial fund has
been established.
Lucille was born on December 7, 1914 on her parents' farm in Ivester,
to Alfred and Jessie (Strickler) Moats. She received her
education in the Grundy County Schools. On February 10, 1937,
Lucille was united in marriage to Charles Foster at the Ivester
Church of the Brethren. She was a lifelong member of the Ivester
Church of the Brethren, where she was a librarian, taught the
Cradle Roll Sunday School class and was a member of the Cheerful
Helper Sunday School class until her death. Lucille was a farm
wife, worked at many jobs at the Hardin County Home and did
house cleaning for many families in the Eldora area. She worked
as a Kiwanis wife at the Hardin County Fair and the Turn About
Shop in Eldora. For 17 years, she was employed at the Red Door
Hobby Shop in Eldora. Lucille was a founding member and present
member of the Kappa Iota Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Harner and husband, Bill
of Eldora; one son, Richard and wife, Lori of Pinellas Park,
Florida; two grandchildren, Doug Harner and wife, Kathy of
Chicago, Illinois and Traci Chandler and husband, Paul of Rogers, Minnesota;
three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Moats and
Millard Moats and wife, Etta, all of Grundy Center; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents;
one brother, Earl; and two sisters, Elva Large and Gladys
Daleske.

Doris was born on March 3, 1918, at home on the farm north of
Hubbard, to Edgar and Mildred (Perry) Van Patter. During her
childhood, the family moved to a farm southwest of Eldora. Doris
then graduated from the Pleasant Center country school in rural
Eldora. She began babysitting in 1942 and helped to care for
many children of families in the Eldora area. Doris helped her
parents on the farm until 1971, when they moved to Eldora. She
was a member of the First Congregational United Church of
Christ. Traveling, family and friends were among her favorites.
Survivors include one brother, Keith Van Patter and wife,
Patricia of Eldora; one nephew, Dennis Van Patter of Lakewood,
Colorado; and one niece, Linda Thornton and husband, Harley of Des
Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Edna Hartman

STEAMBOAT ROCK—Edna Hartman, 90, of Lacombe, Louisiana, formerly of
Steamboat Rock, died on Friday, November 28, 2003, at the Lacombe
Nursing Center in Lacombe.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday,
December 10, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in
Steamboat Rock, with burial in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church
on Wednesday.
Edna was born on March 3, 1913 in Stahl, Missouri, to Franklin and Eva
(Lipp) Lewis. On August 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to
Kenneth Hartman at Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the Bayou
Baptist Church of Slidell, Louisiana, the president and oldest member
of the "Keenagers," a senior citizen organization, and for years
assisted in the collection of school supplies for needy
children. Edna was a homemaker, beautician, clerk in Black's
Department Store in Waterloo and a caregiver for her
daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hartman, who suffered a stroke in 1999.
Survivors include three sons, Sterling Hartman of Slidell,
Kenneth Hartman of Redfield and Richard Hartman of Layton, Utah;
two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; five
sisters; and two brothers.

on Saturday,

Garden Cemetery in Eldora, with full military rites provided by
the American Legion Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 and the VFW Roll-Harless
Post No. 3974. A memorial fund has been established.
Arthur was born on October 22, 1924, at home in rural Steamboat Rock,
to Julius and Anna (Frerichs) Klettke. He attended school in
Steamboat Rock. Arthur served in the U.S. Marine Corps during
W.W. II, and was stationed in the South Pacific. He was
honorably discharged in 1946. Arthur farmed until 1958, when he
enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his discharge in
1961. Arthur was a lifelong resident of Hardin County. He was a
member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora and member of the
American Legion Walter-Sayer Post No. 182. Woodworking and
painting were among his favorites.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Klettke of Eldora; three
daughters, Joyce Lanxon of Iowa City, Shirley Reagan and Karen
Peacock and husband, Kent, all of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Granzow and
husband, Lowell of Eldora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard
Klettke; and one niece, Shiela Klettke.

William Sells

HAMPTON—William "Bill" Sells, 84, of Hampton, formerly of
Clarksville, died on Sunday, November 30, 2003, at the Franklin General
Hospital in Hampton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3,
at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville.
Bill was born on August 28, 1919 at New Hartford, to William and Emma
Jane (Ackerson) Sells. He received his education in the New
Hartford School system. On April 10, 1941, he was united in
marriage to Hilda DeGroote at Albert Lea, Minnesota. The couple lived
in Waterloo, where Bill worked at the Rath Packing Co. and John
Deere Tractor Co. They later moved to New Hartford and
Clarksville. Bill operated his own TV repair shop and worked
with Walter Perkins in Clarksville. He was employed by Shield
Bantam in Waverly for 32 years, where he was a final inspector
in quality control. In November 2001, the couple moved to
Hampton.
Bill was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in
Clarksville. He enjoyed playing softball on the Shield Bantam
team. Bill enjoyed woodworking, baking and cooking for family,
and watching and feeding the squirrels.
Survivors include one son, Bill Sells Jr. and wife, Deb of Iowa
Falls; three daughters, Donna Kelm and husband, Fred of
Clarksville, Mary Hibner and husband, Merlin of Garner and Linda Brammer and husband, Dan of Hampton; 14 grandchildren; and 19
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda; his parents; 13
siblings; and a son-in-law, Dan Muller.

Irving J. Faust

HUBBARD—Irving John Faust, 93, of Hubbard, died
on Sunday, November
30, 2003, in Mesa, Arizona.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 6,
at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard, with Rev. Ron
Ridgway officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Irving was born on September 20, 1910, to John and Amelia (Wehmeier)
Faust on a farm north of Hubbard. He attended school in Hubbard
and played on Hubbard's first football team. After graduating in
1928, Irving attended North Central College at Naperville, Illinois.
While at North Central, he became a member of the men's college
chorus. After college, Irving returned to Hubbard to farm with
his father and brother. On August 31, 1939, he was united in
marriage to Jane Anderson at Randall.
Irving was a life long
member of the Evangelical Church in Hubbard, singing with the
church choir for over 60 years, and with his brother, Harold,
sang for funerals, weddings and celebrations. He served as Sunday
School Superintendent and was a member of the Iowa Falls Male
Chorus. Irving served on the Hubbard Elevator Coop Board and on
several insurance boards. His winter retirement years were spent
in Mesa.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Hubbard; two daughters,
Ruth Jacobs of Keene, New Hampshire and Lois Linn of Dallas, Texas; three
granddaughters, Amelia Jacobs, Sara Linn and Jennifer Barefoot;
four grandsons, Jay Jocobs, Toby Gregory, Taber Meier and Chris
Meier; and three great-grandchildren, Oliver Jacobs, Nicholas
and Erin Meier; one sister, Clara Krukow of Hampton; and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Judith
Eileen; three sisters, Anna Arensmeier, Esther Reifschneider and
one sister in infancy; and one brother, Harold Faust.
