James Louis Campbell, 74, entered heaven
on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. He
had resided at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 5, at the Iowa Falls
Meeting Room, with burial in the Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery,
Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Linn's Funeral Homes, Iowa Falls Chapel.
Jim entered earth on May 3, 1928 at Iowa Falls, Iowa, born to
Harold A. and Grace E. Nicolet Campbell. He attended elementary
school at Wilkie, Iowa; graduated in 1945 from the Williams, Iowa
Community Schools; attended the Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls; and
AIB of Des Moines, Iowa, attaining a 2 year associate accounting
degree. On March 17, 1953, he was united in marriage to Dorothy J.
Lyle at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They farmed the Campbell Homestead
southwest of Alden until 1963, when they moved to Iowa Falls.
That year, Jim in partnership with his brother, John formed Campbell
Supply Company. Jim retired in 1991 but remained interested in the
business and active in the community; especially the Iowa Falls
Historical Society. In his young adult years, he worked extensively
as an Electrician.
He enjoyed woodworking and building projects and
traveling in the U. S. and abroad with his wife. He loved his
grandchildren and he loved to sing, to read and to study his Holy
Bible. He knew the Lord Jesus Christ from an early age and was a
living example of great faith to his family and to his community. He
was in fellowship with those at the Iowa Falls Meeting Room.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy J. Campbell;
four sons, James M. Campbell and wife, Cindy of Galesburg, Illinois,
Harold D. Campbell and wife, Suzanne of Tucson, Arizona, Robert N.
Campbell and wife, Ruth of Iowa Falls and John A. Campbell and
wife, Michelle of Oro Valley, Arizona; one daughter, Sharon A. Zwanzig and husband, Jonathan of Bloomington, Illinois; ten
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle M.
Campbell and wife, Elizabeth of Iowa Falls and C. John Campbell and wife,
Ruth of Iowa Falls; three sisters, Ruth L. Brinkmeyer and husband,
Dennis of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Miriam E. Renaud and husband, Edmund
of Iowa Falls and C. Jeanne Kastendick and husband, Norman of Iowa
Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. and Grace E.
Campbell.

Ruby Kane

SANTA ROSA, California-Ruby Harriett Kane, 83, of Santa Rosa, California,
died on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Hanna House West in Santa Rosa.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church
in Santa Rosa.
Ruby was born on the family farm north of Iowa Falls on May 7, 1919,
to Everett and Mabel Ellefson McCord. She attended country school
and graduated from Ellsworth College and became a school teacher.
She married Jerrald Kane in the early 1940s and they moved to
California, and then to Utah for a short time. They returned to
Hollister, California, where they lived for 30 years. She was an accomplished seamstress, studied painting and drawing at San Jose
State College, and took a tailoring class and made designer
clothing. In the early 1960s, she returned to teaching until retiring
in 1978. For the past 15 years Ruby has experienced Alzheimer's
disease. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Santa
Rosa.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Kane of
Fresno, California and
Barbara Proctor of Santa Rosa; a son, Jeffrey, and wife, Sue of Santa
Rosa; an AFS programs daughter, Vreni Welser and husband, Michael
of Quincy, California; 11 grand-children; three great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Allene Minnis and husband, Robert of Osage and Constance Priesley of
Sacramento; two brothers, Robert McCord and wife, Lillian
and Franklin McCord and wife, Catherine, all of Iowa Falls; her
step-mother, Lenore McCord of Iowa Falls; and a sister-in-law,
Thelma Rogers.

Oscar Hames

WILLIAMS-Oscar H. Hames, 92, of Williams, died on Friday, April 4,
2003, at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City.
Services were
held on Tuesday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Williams, with burial in the church cemetery. Father John R.
Flaherty officiated.
Oscar was born on February 27, 1911 in Dubuque, to Andrew and Catherine Liefker Hames. He graduated from
the Williams High School in 1929 and Loras College in Dubuque.
He served in the Army-Air Force from 1942-45 in World War II. He
never married and was employed by Swift and Co. for 41 years.
He was
a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams and the Williams
American Legion Post No.633.
He is survived by a special friend, Ardath Fowler of Webster City; a
brother, Urban Hames of Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Odelia Murphy; and
five brothers, Ben, Fred, Walter, Frances and Melvin Hames.
The
Surls Funeral Home of Williams, was in charge of
the arrangements.

Lavon Thomas

MAYNARD-Lavon V. Thomas, 80, of Maynard, died on Friday, April 4,
2003, as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident near
Waverly.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 8, at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Maynard, with burial in the Long Grove Cemetery,
Maynard.
Lavon was born on January 26, 1923 at Allison, to Edward and Elsie Toll
Kramer. She moved to Maynard in 1936 and graduated from the Maynard High
School in 1940. On February 20, 1944, she married John "Jack" Thomas and
they farmed in rural Maynard until moving into Maynard in 1974. Her
hobbies were fishing, sewing, quilting and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Huffine and husband, Gary of
Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, Dina Tystahl and husband, Brad, Greg Clefisch and wife, Kelly, Cory Huffine and wife, Tiffany, Heather Cass
and husband, Michael, Brandi Vorhees and husband, Jason and Megan
McConnell and husband, Matthew; two great-grandsons, Greg Tystahl and
Logan Clefisch; and a sister, Mercedes Duffy and husband, Daryl
Westcott of Guttenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband; a son, Kim; and a brother, Dale Kramer.

Susanna Renoe

HAMPTON-Susanna Elizabeth Renoe, 85, of Hampton, died
on Friday, April
4, 2003, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Hampton United Methodist Church, with burial in the Medford Cemetery,
Holden, Missouri. Rev. Jerry Miller will officiate.
Susanna was born on August 7, 1917 in Holden, Missouri, to Sam and Agnes Van Matre Raber. She graduated at the age of 15 from
the Holden High School
and received her bachelor's of science degree in education from
Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri and went on to
have a career in teaching. On June 7, 1940, she married William Renoe.
Susanna was a member of the Hampton Methodist Church,
Mother's Circle, PEO, AAUW, Women's Club, History and Heritage Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Williams of Minneapolis,
Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Diann Renoe of Charles City; five
grandsons, Jamie, Jon, Mike Renoe, Mitchell and Glenn Williams;
three great-granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Breidenstein of
Higgensville, Missouri and Mildred Renoe of Huntsville, Alabama; and seven
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband; a son, Van; a nephew, Joe Raber; a sister, Drusilla Krockenberger; and a brother, Russell Raber.
The

PRESCOTT, Wisconsin-Ashton Lieuwen Easton, three months and four days
old, died on Friday, April 4, 2003, at his home in Wisconsin.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m., at the New Hope United Methodist
Church in Dumont, with burial in the Dumont Cemetery.
Ashton was born on Januay 1, 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Richard and
Deidre Melendy Easton. They were members of the New Hope United
Methodist Church in Dumont.
He is survived by his parents, Richard and Deidre Easton of
Prescott, Wisconsin; a brother, Tristan; maternal grandfather, Michael Melendy of Hampton and maternal grandmother, Ramona Melendy of
Dumont; paternal grandparents, Charles and Mavis Easton of Cam,
England; maternal great-grandparents, John and Hilda Stock of Dumont;
two aunts, Bethany Melendy of Dumont and Tracey Phillips of England.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents.

William Jurgens

HAMPTON-William Jurgens, 79, of Hampton, died on
Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the
Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Services were held on Tuesday,
April 8, at the Zion Reformed Church, rural Hampton, with burial in
the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Sheffield. Rev. Arthur Zewert officiated.
William was born on March 28, 1924 in Franklin County, to Herman and
Minnie Koenen Jurgens. He attended the Marion Township Country School.
On August 5, 1947, he married Audrey Symens at the Zion Reformed
Church. He farmed in rural Hampton and was a Franklin County
Supervisor for 16 years. After the death of his wife in 1994, he
married Eleanor Manganiello on June 12, 1999.
William was active in
the Zion Reformed Church where he was an elder and Sunday School
teacher. He was involved in many committees and activities in the
county. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Jurgens of Clear Lake; three
daughters, Jean Mollenbeck and husband, John of Scenoa, Illinois, Sonna
McMahon and husband, Dick of Latimer and Diane Bird and husband, Ken of
Britt; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Manganiello and a stepson, Steve Manganiello and wife, Liz, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister,
Elizabeth Koenen of Sheffield; a sister-in-law, Ruth Jurgens of
Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a grandson,
Tanner; one brother and one sister.
The

Edna Everman

Edna Everman, 101, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2003,
at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will
be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 12, at the First Baptist
Church, Iowa Falls, with burial to follow in the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery,
Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 2-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Linn's Funeral Homes, Iowa Falls Chapel, with the family receiving
friends between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be
directed to the family. The Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls Chapel
has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Edna Hoversten, was born on September 14, 1901, at her parents home at
rural Williams, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Anderson) Hoversten. She attended local country schools.
On March 12, 1924, she was united in marriage to Thomas William
Everman at Ames, Iowa.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, the
Lutheran Ladies Aide, Maple Grove Willing Workers, Ellsworth
Hospital Auxiliary and the Iowa Falls Garden Club.
Edna Everman is survived by three daughters, Ruth Armstrong and
husband, William of Port Orford, Oregon, Lila Seney and husband, Bob
of Woodland, California and Helen Peyton and husband, Ronald of Hampton; two sons, Dale Everman and wife, Judy of Naples, Florida
and Allen Everman and wife, Jo Ann of Stewartville, Minnesota; fourteen
grandchildren; thirty six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-
grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Westwick of Iowa Falls; and one
brother, Glen Hoversten and wife, Marjorie of Afton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anna Hoversten;
her husband, Thomas Everman; three grandchildren, Allen Everman,
Jr., Kelly Everman, Susan Everman; two sisters, Alice Mathias and
Birdie Inks; and four brothers, Gaylord Hoversten, Chester Hoversten,
Ernest Hoversten and Willard Hoversten.

Scott Rutz

HUMBOLDT-BM2 Scott Vernon Rutz, 39, died on Monday, April 7, 2003,
in Naples, Italy.
Services were held at the Methodist Church in
Humboldt on Saturday, April 19.
Scott was born on June 16, 1963 in Fort Dodge, the son of Karen
Christensen Rutz of Cedar Falls and the late Vernon Rutz. Scott
graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in May 1982 and attended
Ellsworth Community College. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1984
and was currently assigned to the Fleet Air Mediterranean in Naples,
where he served as the Admiral's Barge maintenance supervisor. Petty
Officer Rutz was awarded the Navycom Citation posthumously by
Admiral M. L. Holmes.
He is survived by his mother; sister, Jennifer; and four nephews and
nieces.

Alice Olson

CEDAR FALLS-Alice Olson, 98, of Cedar Falls, formerly of New
Providence and Iowa Falls, died on Friday, April 11, 2003, at her
daughter's home in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Services were held on Tuesday,
April 15, at the St. James Episcopal Church in Cincinnati, with her
ashes interred at the Honey Creek Cemetery in New Providence. Memorials
may be sent to the Honey Creek Preservation Society or the First
Congregational Church in Iowa Falls.
Alice was born on April 19, 1904 on a farm near New Providence, to
Frank and Eva Mulford Clampitt. She was valedictorian of her
graduating class in 1923. She attended William Penn College in
Oskaloosa for two years and graduated from the University of Iowa in
1927. Alice married Ernest Farrell on May 28, 1929 and after his
death, married Lowell Olson in 1938. The family lived in Des Moines,
Iowa City and Centerville before returning to Iowa Falls in 1949.
She was a social worker for the Iowa Department of Social Services
Children's Bureau from 1959-74.
She was active in the First
Congregational Church, Garden Club, PTA, and was a Girl Scout
Leader.
She is survived by a son, Richard; a daughter, Dorothy Olson and
husband, Ward Garrabrant of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and a son, Richard.

Darrel Brown

DUMONT-Darrel Francis "Brownie" Brown, 81, of Dumont, died
on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason
City.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 15, at the Aredale United
Methodist Church, with burial in the Dumont Cemetery. Rev. Michael
Shaffer officiated.
Darrel was born on February 10, 1922 at Bristow, to Frank and Lelah Shreve
Brown. He was educated in a Butler County rural school and served in
the United States Army in World War II. On June 21, 1959, he married
Betty Jean Voss at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Darrel was a
farm laborer and worked for Vandyke Limestone and later had his own
truck and worked for Greene Limestone and Allied Construction.
He
was a member of the Aredale Methodist Church and a 50 year member of
the Amvets Post 106 in Bristow. His hobbies were fishing, bowling
and races, especially watching his grandchildren race go-carts.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Betty of Dumont; a son, Scott of
Meservey; three brothers-in-law, Robert Voss and wife, Billie of
Peoria, Illinois, Ralph Voss and wife, Karen of Cedar Rapids and Dave Rusinack and wife, Pam of Sheffield; a sister-in-law, Beverly Rusinack and husband, John of Hampton; and two grandsons, Dustin
and Logan Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Gladys; a brother, Glenn; and one sister-in-law.

Matilda Spieker

CORALVILLE-Matilda Marie Spieker, 79, of Coralville, formerly of
Wellsburg, died of natural causes on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Mercy
Hospital in Iowa City.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at
10:30 a.m., at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Wellsburg, with
burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Harold Miller will officiate.
Matilda was born on October 21, 1923 in rural Grundy County, to Edd and
Tillie Boelman Finger. She attended the Aplington High School, graduated
second in her class and continued her education at Iowa State
Teachers College. On July 7, 1943, she married Allen Spieker in
Medford, Oregon. While Allen served in the United States Army for three
years Matilda taught country school. When he returned home they
farmed. She was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in
rural Wellsburg, where she served as organist and choir director.
She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Heath and husband, John
of Houston, Texas, Jean Gustafson and husband, Chuck of Kalona and
Dr. Ruth Spieker and husband, Neil Webster of Iowa City; a son,
Jay of Wellsburg; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one
brother, Elwin Finger and wife, Irene of Aplington; a
sister-in-law, Faye Benning and husband, LaVern of Geneva; and a
brother-in-law, Oscar Meyer of Aplington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; and
infant granddaughter in 1982; a brother; and two sisters.

HAMPTON-Earl Stahl, 91, of Hampton, died on Sunday, April 13, 2003,
at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Thursday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in
Hampton, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Karl Bollhagen
will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 16, from 4-8:00
p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
Earl was born on January 21, 1912, to James and Florence Babbitt Stahl at
Pershing. He was educated in Hardin County country schools. On June
5, 1933, he married Helen Lochmann in Clarion. He farmed in his
early years and worked for the Darrell/Dillon Bread Company for 30 years
running a bread route and ran his own bread route for 20 years.
Earl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing
and visiting his people on his bread route.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Froning of Dallas, Texas and
Denise Jarvis and husband, Kevin of Jacksonville, Illinois; two sons,
Randy of Plano, Texas and James and wife, Kay of Hampton; three
grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin of Bradenton, Florida and Walter
of Des Moines; and one sister, Mary Fitzpatrick of Culver City, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers;
and six sisters.

April 13, 2003, at his home.

17, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Iowa Falls,
with burial in the Union Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Krueger will officiate.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2-8:00 p.m., at the Surls Funeral Home
in Iowa Falls with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m.
Richard was born on June 28, 1939 in Iowa Falls, to Richard and Betty Mulford. He graduated from
the Iowa Falls High School in 1957 and on
September 27, 1964, he married Sharon H. Neubauer. Richard was employed
by Highland Country Club and retired in 1998.
He was a member of
the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elks Club, E-Club and the Highland
Country Club. He was an avid golf enthusiast, a big sports fan and
enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Iowa Falls; two sons, Chad
and wife, Sinda and Joel and wife, Michelle, all of Iowa Falls;
three grandchildren, Megan and Maverick Mulford and Travis Woodley,
all of Iowa Falls; his parents, Richard and Betty Mulford; two
brothers, Robert Mulford and Ron Mulford, all of Iowa Falls; his
parents-in-law, Helen and Leo Neubauer of Iowa Falls; and a
brother-in-law, Dennis Neubauer and wife Rosalee of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; aunts; uncles; two
nieces; and four nephews.

Florence Greenwell

ACKLEY-Florence Elisabeth Greenwell, 65, of Ackley and formerly
of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Northbrook Manor
Care Center in Cedar Rapids.
Services will be held on Saturday, April
19, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ at Geneva,
with inurnment in the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls.
Florence was born on January 2, 1938 at Springfield, Ohio, to George and
Nellie Rittenhouse Mitchell. She graduated from the Newton High School
in 1956 and attended Ellsworth College for one and one-half years.
On May 16, 1958, she married Freddie Greenwell at Newton. She was a
utility worker for Boyt Luggage and also worked at Wal-Mart and the
Times-Citizen Newspaper, all in Iowa Falls.
She was a member of the St.
Peter's United Church of Christ, Geneva. She enjoyed reading,
enjoyed camping and cooking.
Florence is survived by two sons, Bill and wife, Julie of Marion
and John and his wife, Glenda of Ackley; a daughter, Shari Gums
and husband, Patrick of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; and one
sister, Frances Alexander of Xenia, Ohio.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Freddie; two sisters, Jeanne Hewitt and
Shirley Rohrer; and one brother, James Mitchell.
The

NEW PROVIDENCE-Mary Ellen Gibbs, 63, of New Providence, died
on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the
First Congregational Church of Christ in Eldora, with burial at 2:00
p.m., in the Chester Cemetery, rural Union. Pastor Corey Larson will
officiate.
Mary Ellen was born on May 24, 1939 in rural Union, to Robert and
Darlene Pearce Mairs. She graduated from the Eldora High School in 1957
and on August 16, 1957, she married Donald L. Gibbs in Eldora. She
worked as business manager and held other offices at Quakerdale of
New Providence for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of
the First Congregational Church of Christ in Eldora, where she sang
in the choir. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on her children
and grandchildren in their athletic events and was also a fan of the
Iowa State Cyclones.
She is survived by her husband, Don; two daughters, Tamma Perry and
husband, Richard of Eldora and Tracy Reinert and husband, Kent of
Union; a son, Todd Gibbs and wife, Grace of Holt, Michigan; a sister,
Barbara Herndon and husband, Leon of Eldora; three brothers, Robert Mairs and wife, Kay of Hastings, Nebraska, Thomas Mairs and wife, Nan
of Camas, Washington and Dennis Mairs and wife, Lois of Eldora; seven
grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents.

Calvin Boelman, 77, of Ackley, passed away on Wednesday, April 16,
2003, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April
19, at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Wellsburg,
with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley, with military honors
provided by the Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post #252,
Ackley. Visitation will be from 2-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Linn's Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel, with the family receiving
friends between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m., on Friday evening.
Memorials may be directed to the family. The Linn's Funeral Homes
Ackley Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Calvin William Boelman, was born on May 23, 1925, at his parents farm
home in German Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son or Kasper and
Fannie (Boelman) Boelman. He attended the German Township Country
School.
Calvin served with the United States Army during World War II with
the 53rd MG Company, serving in the Asiatic/Pacific Campaign and the
Army of Occupation, Japan.
On December 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Wilma Ruth Schultz
at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Wellsburg, Iowa. They farmed
Southeast of Ackley. To this union one daughter was born, Sue.
He was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Wellsburg,
the Ackley Volunteer Fire Department and the Elliott-Keninger
American Legion Post #252, Ackley.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Wilma R. Boelman of Ackley;
his daughter, Sue Abbas and husband, David of Ackley; two
granddaughters, Andie Abbas of Evansdale and Tara Abbas and
fiancé, Damon of Johnston; and one sister, Theola Janssen of
Ackley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kasper and Fannie Boelman;
two sisters, Tillie DeVries and Theda Boelman; and four brothers,
Joe Boelman, George Boelman, Wolbert "Bert" Boelman and William "Bill" Boelman.

Dorothy Jensen

HUBBARD-Dorothy Genevieve Jensen, 85, of Hubbard, died of a heart
attack on Thursday, April 17, 2003.
Services were held on Monday, April
21, at the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard, with burial in the
Hubbard Cemetery. Pastor John Attaway officiated.
Dorothy was born on September 19, 1917, to John and Mabel Collins Terveer
on a farm west of Alden. She graduated from the Alden High School in
1934 and attended Gates Business College in Waterloo. She worked as
a typesetter for the Alden newspaper and as bookkeeper for the Iowa
Limestone Company. On April 25, 1943, she married Henry Jensen in
Alden and they lived on a farm southwest of Hubbard until retiring
in 1988, when they moved into Hubbard.
She was a longtime member of
the Zion United Church of Christ, where she taught Bible School and
Sunday School.
She is survived by her husband, Henry of Hubbard; two sons, Dallas
and wife, Pamela of Beatrice, Nebraska and David and wife, Marilyn of Farnhamville; three grandchildren, Dee Ann Boger and husband, Jeffrey
of Battle Creek, Eric and wife, Darci of Bellevue, Nebraska and
Christopher of Cedar Falls; three step-grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Wildeboer of Cedar
Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald;
and two sisters, Ruth Burns and Mae Oskvig.
The

Ruth Ratcliff

IOWA FALLS-Ruth Ratcliff, 82, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Bradford,
died on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 22, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa
Falls, with burial in the Maynes Grove Cemetery, Bradford. Rev. Bob
Miller officiated.
Ruth was born on November 22, 1920 in Hampton, to Ira and Elsie Kite
Ratcliff. She graduated from the Geneva High School in 1939 and William
Penn College in 1950, with a BA Degree. She had been employed as a
Social Security Specialist for the federal government, retiring in
1982. She was a lay worker for the Wesleyan Church in Kansas City, Missouri,
for 30 years holding many offices. Ruth was also a board member for
the Neighborhood Family Project.
She is survived by three nieces, Linda Versluys of Farmington, Missouri,
Lois Bennett of Alden and Louise Montgomery of Iowa Falls; and two
nephews, Tim Ratcliff of Rochester, Minnesota and Jerry Ratcliff of
Belle Plaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a
brother, Burl Ratcliff.

Orpha Brown

DUMONT-Orpha Brown, 93, of Dumont, died on Saturday, April 19, 2003,
at the Dumont Care Center.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April
23, at 1:00 p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont, with
burial in the Dumont Cemetery, rural Dumont. Rev. Bob Scholten will
officiate.
Orpha was born on September 6, 1909 in Franklin County, to Conrad and Mary Fierheller Laudner. She was raised in the Union Ridge Community,
graduated from the Hansell Consolidated Schools in 1927 and attended
Teachers College at Cedar Falls for two years. She taught for
several years in Hardin and Franklin County Schools. On March 25,
1936, she married Harry Brown at Greene. They farmed for several
years until moving to Grimes where they lived for 30 years. When
they retired they moved back to Dumont. Orpha was a member of the
Dumont Reformed Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Coleman of Tennessee; a
son, Eldon and wife, Mary of Grimes; a sister-in-law, Violet Laudner
of Dumont; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robin; four
sisters; and six brothers.

Dean Partridge

ELDORA-Dean F. Partridge, 77, of Eldora, died on Sunday, April 20,
2003, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services will
be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church
in Eldora and at 2:30 p.m., at the Peoria United Methodist Church
near Maxwell, with burial in the Peoria Cemetery, rural Maxwell. Rev.
David Splett will officiate at both services.
Dean was born on January 25, 1926 near Maxwell, to Victor and Coleen Carr
Partridge. He graduated from the Collins High School in 1944 and served
in the U.S. Army in Japan during World War II. On October 22, 1955, he
married Marge Stafford in Des Moines and she died February 5, 1985. On
November 5, 1993, he married Marcella Busch Jordening at the Little
Brown Church at Nashua. He farmed in the Collins area until retiring
in 1993 and moved to Eldora.
Dean was a member of the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Eldora, a former member of the Peoria Methodist
Church in Maxwell and the Collins American Legion. He enjoyed
recreational aviation in his adult life.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; three daughters, Deanne Lee
and husband, Kenneth of Waukee, Collen Chapman and husband, Dr.
William of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Karen Williams and husband, Steven of
Cambridge; two sons, Bill Partridge of Des Moines and Keith
Partridge of Nevada; two stepsons, David Jordening of Independence
and Steven Jordening of Nevada; a sister, Carolyn Wolf and husband,
Dean of California; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his first wife; a brother, Gail; and a sister,
Dorothy Hall.
The Creps-Abels Funeral Home of Eldora, was in charge of

Thomas J. Mullen, 76, of Iowa Falls, passed away
on Friday, April 25,
2003, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 29,
at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with private
family burial in the St. Mark’s Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation
will be from 2-8:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Linn’s Funeral Homes,
Iowa Falls Chapel, with the family receiving friends between the
hours of 6-8:00 p.m. There will be a Scripture service at 8:00
p.m., on Tuesday evening following the visitation. Memorials may be directed
to the family. The Linn’s Funeral Homes, Iowa Falls Chapel
has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Thomas Joseph Mullen, was born on a farm just outside Denison, Iowa,
on June 8, 1926, to parents, Leo T. and Bernice (Kinney) Mullen.
He was the first of six children: brothers, Kinney, Patrick and
Michael with sisters, Anna Mae and Mary. Tom attended parochial school in Denison and later graduated from
the
Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. He served with the United
States Army during World War II in the Philippines. After his
service to his country he graduated from the Drake University School of
Business and worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber in Des Moines for
twenty years.
On August 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to Janet Forret at
the St.
Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, Iowa. To this union three
children were born, Suzanne, Ronald and Stephen. In 1971, Tom and Janet purchased the Maple Beach Resort in Pelican
Rapids, Minnesota and operated it for nineteen years. They retired
on Lake Ida until moving to Iowa Falls, Iowa in 1997.
Thomas J. Mullen is survived by his wife, Janet F. Mullen of Iowa
Falls; one daughter, Sue Olmstead and husband, Gary of Iowa Falls;
two sons, Ron Mullen and wife, Karin of Fuquay-Varina, North
Carolina and Steve Mullen and wife, Julie of Rochester, Minnesota; five
grandchildren, Matthew Olmstead and wife, Dawn of Newton,
Daniel Olmstead of Iowa Falls, Sarah and Anna Mullen of
Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Marc Mullen of Rochester, Minnesota;
one brother, Mickey Mullen and wife, Rose of Pensacola, Florida; two
sisters, Anna Mae Schmuki of Arvada, Colorado and Mary Mullen of
Rochester, Minnesota; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Mullen of
Dewitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bernice Mullen; two
brothers, Kinney and Patrick Mullen; and one brother-in-law, Frank Schmuki.

Ronald Patterson

WATERLOO-Ronald Ray Patterson, 57, of Waterloo, formerly of
Hampton, died on Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in
Waterloo.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 29, at the Hampton
United Methodist Church, with burial in the Dumont Cemetery. Rev.
Jerry Miller officiated.
Ronald was born on October 16, 1945 at Waverly, to Donald and Irene Pope
Patterson. He was educated in the Dumont Schools. In 1946, he married
Barb Woltjer and they were later divorced. He was a self-employed
electrician in Hampton and a member of the Hampton United Methodist
Church. He enjoyed working on motors, hunting and fishing. Ronald
was a volunteer fireman for the Hampton Fire Department and was
involved in the Hampton baseball program.
He is survived by his mother, Irene Hart of Altoona; three sons,
Troy and fiancée, Melissa of Hampton, Darrin and wife, Kathy and
Kevin and wife, Carol, all of Waterloo; two sisters, Delores Tracy
and husband, Burton of Clarion and Carol Muessigmann and husband,
Donald of Mason City; a stepbrother, Dennis Hart and wife, Barb of
Altoona; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
father and stepfather.
The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, was in charge of

Odilia Garza

ACKLEY-Odilia "Odie" Moreno Garza, 44, of Ackley, died at her home
on Saturday, April 26, 2003.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 29, at
the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Webster City. Leonel Cavazos and
Dennis Kramer officiated. There was no visitation.
Odie was born on August 31, 1958 in Harlingen, Texas, to Israel and Otilia Galvan Moreno. On October 26, 1974, she married Raul Hinojosa
Garza in Westlaco, Texas. She had just recently received her GED
from Ellsworth Community College. Odie was a member of the Jehovah's
Witness Kingdom Hall in Iowa Falls and the Ackley Chamber of
Commerce. She was very active in the Ackley community.
She is survived by her husband, Raul H. Garza of Ackley; her mother,
Otilia Moreno; three sons, Raul M.Garza Jr. and wife, Natasha of
Peoria, Arizona, Noe and Leonel both of Ackley; and a daughter,
Crystal of Ackley.
She was preceded in death by her father; and a
daughter, Tiffny.
The Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley, was in charge of
the arrangements.

Willard Martin

NEW PROVIDENCE-Willard Martin, 85, of New Providence, died
on
Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical
Center.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, May 1, at the Honey
Creek-New Providence Friends Church. Memorials may be directed to
the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Honey Creek-New Providence Friends
Church.
Willard was born on July 18, 1917 in New Providence, to John and May
Hawk Martin. He was raised and educated in New Providence and later
served in the United States Navy during World War II. On February 18,
1953, he married Ethel Howland and they farmed in the New Providence
area. He was a former mayor of New Providence, a member of the Honey
Creek-New Providence Friends Church, Masonic Lodge, Farm Bureau and
the local co-op board. Willard was an avid golfer, bowler, and a
stamp and coin collector. He also sang with the church choir and the
Marshalltown Mens' Chorus.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two brothers, Neil and wife, Peggy
Martin of Marshalltown and Gilbert Martin of Dayton, Ohio; and two
sisters, Alice Rowley of Atlantic and Luanna Strickland of Odenton,
Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jeanette
Martin.
The
Biersborn Funeral Home of Union, was in charge of
the arrangements.

contractor from that area.

Winter

HUBBARD-Vera Margaret Winter, 85, of Hubbard, died on Tuesday, April
29, 2003, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls, where she had
been a resident since 1991.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 3,
at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard,
with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Rueger will
officiate.
Vera was born on October 15, 1917 on a farm at Hubbard, to Gustav and
Selma Dubberke Neubauer. She attended the Concord Country School
southwest of Hubbard. On March 10, 1942, she married Walter Winter
at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard. They farmed southeast of
Hubbard and were active in dairy farming until 1976 when they moved
into Hubbard. Vera was a lifelong member of the St. John's Evangelical
Lutheran Church and active in the Mission Circle.
She is survived by three daughters, Lois Bickel and husband, Robert
of Frankenmuth, Michigan, Jean Farrer and husband, Robert of Pagosa
Springs, Colorado and Connie Winter of Imperial, Nebraska; a son, Gary
Winter and wife, Brenda of Hubbard; 11 grandchildren; a
great-granddaughter; and a brother, Dale Neubauer of Radcliffe.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant
brother, Franklin Neubauer.
The
