William Nereus
Moore
January 24, 1911-January 2, 2010
January 6, 2010
IOWA FALLS—William Nereus Moore, 98, of Iowa Falls, died on
Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home
in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 6, at the First
Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls, with
burial in the Friends Cemetery, Iowa Falls. In lieu of
flowers, it is requested the memorials be directed to the
Bill Moore Memorial Beef Award at the Hardin County Fair or
the American Shorthorn Foundation. The Surls Funeral Home in
Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
William was born on
January 24, 1911 in Dows, the son of Robbie and Delphina
(Martin) Moore. William was united in marriage to Harriett
Hanson on April 26, 1941 in Iowa Falls. He was a farmer and
a member of the First Congregational United Church of
Christ. He had a lifelong attachment to agriculture and
farming and saw many changes and innovations in this field
in his life. He had a special interest in the livestock
industry. His first 4-H projects were sheep and he spent
early years fitting, exhibiting and shearing sheep. This
interest led him to a longtime involvement in the Hardin
County and Iowa State Fairs.
He served on the County
Fair Board and as superintendent of various livestock
departments. He and his family became actively involved in
the production, exhibition and promotion of Shorthorn
cattle. He and his wife, Harriett were honored in 1985 as
“Builders of the Breed” by the American Shorthorn
Association. Shorthorn cattle continued to be a true passion
in his life and after retirement from active farming, he and
his wife served as superintendents of Shorthorns at the Iowa
State Fair for many years. They also attended many of the
World Shorthorn Conferences including those held in
Australia, South America, Great Britain, Canada and the U.S.
For 15 years he spent
winter months in Texas and became acquainted with a whole
new group of friends. Here he exhibited the axiom that you
can’t take the farmer off the farm as he learned to grow
oranges and grapefruit. He was very proud that his were the
biggest in the trailer park.
William is survived by his
wife, Harriett; a daughter, Mary Jensen and her husband,
Dave of Iowa Falls; a son, Bert Moore and his wife, Millie
of Elkhorn, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, John Jensen and
wife, Shannon of Iowa Falls, William Jensen and wife, Katy
of Iowa Falls, Sondra Mulford and husband, Brett of
Bloomington, Illinois, Julie Rau and husband, Keith of Iowa
Falls, Jodie Jensen of Iowa Falls and Angi Politzer of Hugo,
Minnesota; 13 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Bunte of
Minnesota and Helen Smith of Des Moines; and a brother,
Robert Moore of Green Mountain.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; six sisters; and a grandson, Paul James
Moore.

ELDORA—Loren E. Jeske, 70, of Eldora, passed away suddenly
on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital in Iowa Falls, after several years of battling a
number of health problems.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 7, at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Eldora, with burial in the Eastlawn
Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on
Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Good Shepherd

Loren’s life was too
short, but many of its joys were lifelong: lifelong
residence in Hardin County, lifelong membership at the St.
Paul Lutheran Church and several lifelong friendships. His
life was also blessed by a 1962 marriage to Judy Mann of
Farragut — and more than 47 years of “for better and for
worse, in sickness and in health” until only death this past
Sunday resulted in their parting in this life.
Loren was a member of New
Providence High School’s “Class of ’57.” He farmed in
Pleasant Township and also worked in other agriculture
related jobs. Loren “Chub” Jeske had a big appetite and a
bigger heart. He enjoyed the camaraderie of good friends and
being “Papa” to his loving grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Marvin and Jennie (Meints) Jeske.
He is survived by his
wife, Judy; his brother, Melvin (Becky) Jeske of Pratt,
Kansas; three children and five grandchildren, Jeff (Jan)
Jeske of Eldora and their children, Afton and Josh; Doug
(Karen) Jeske of Johnston; and Lori Bell of Ft. Dodge and
her children, Kaylee, Brayden and Brycen.
Loren also leaves a great
many special memories. Of sweet corn deliveries and State
Fair trips. Of bowling nights and watching Vikings and
Cyclone games. Of Johnny Cash albums and visits to the Bow.
Of shared feasts and cold drinks. Of good times and great
friends.
