FALLS—Dale L. Shogren, 57, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 4, at the Linn’s
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Bob Miller
officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service
time on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in
the Alden Township Cemetery, Alden. Memorials may be
directed to the family.
Dale LeRoy Shogren, was
born on March 17, 1954 in Des Moines, the son of Eugene and
Betty (Pierce) Shogren. He attended the Des Moines Community
Schools. He graduated from Trucking School in 1977 in
Missouri. He was an over-the-road trucker for many years. On
November 17, 1979, Dale was united in marriage to Karen
Elizabeth Edler Hall in Newton. Dale loved his family,
playing Yahtzee, watching game shows and his casinos.
Dale Shogren is survived
by his wife, Karen Shogren of Iowa Falls; his children,
Kathy (David) Rockhold of Iowa Falls, John (Shelia) Hall of
Iowa Falls, Kevin (Tami) Hall of Iowa Falls and Justin
Shogren of Iowa Falls; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Alan
(Sandy) Shogren of Des Moines, Douglas Shogren of Des
Moines, Marty (Donna) Williamson of Iowa Falls and Stanley
(Joni) Williamson of Austin, Minnesota; his father-in-law,
Lester Edler of Iowa Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Eugene and Doris Shogren; Betty and Merritt
Walton; a brother, Lonnie Shogren; a grandson, Shelbie
Giese; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Bohall.

on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the Rehabilitation Center of

ELDORA—Mildred
“Millie” L. Knutson, 81, of Eldora, passed away on Friday,
January 6, 2012, at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City,
due to complications from an automobile accident.
A funeral service will be
held on Wednesday, January 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the St.
Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett
officiating. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in
Wellsburg. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, is in
charge of the arrangements.
Millie was born on August
2, 1930 in Grundy County, the daughter of William and Nellie
(Ackerman) Deters. She grew up in Wellsburg where she
attended school and graduated from the Wellsburg High School
in 1947. She married Harold Knutson in September 1953, at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple welcomed five
children. Millie and Harold later divorced. She worked many
jobs throughout her life including United Suppliers, Pfizer
Seed Corn and most recently at Boyt Luggage, where she
retired from, working there for over 10 years.
Millie was a member of the
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, was a part of the Ruth
and Naomi Circles and also was a part of the Ladies Aide at
the church. She loved to read, knit, play board games, had a
love for Cardinals and enjoyed Saturday morning coffee with
her family. What Millie most enjoyed was spending time with
her family, especially her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by all who
knew and loved her.
She is survived by her
children, Kathie (Larry) Akkerman of Parkersburg, Kevin
(Jane) Knutson of Iowa Falls, Melanie Stark of Holland,
Kristi (Kenny) Primus of Steamboat Rock and Kirk Knutson of
Bangkok, Thailand; grandchildren, Tim (Robbyn) Diamond,
Melissa (Ryan) West, Kandace (Mike) Behrhorst, Klint
Knutson, who is currently serving in the armed forces in
Afghanistan, Shanna Diamond, Neal Diamond, Sydnee Stark,
Skylar Stark, Kameron Taylor, Jordan Primus and Bailey
Primus; great-grandchildren, Claire and Colton Diamond,
Aubrey West, Addison, Savanna and Makenna Behrhorst, Daniel,
Damien and Ericka Ramirez, Serenity Diamond and Brylee
Eischen; and brothers, Rodney and Wallace Deters of
Wellsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald
Deters; and sisters-in-law, June Krause, Aldean Harless and
Inez Deters.

Wisconsin, formerly of Parkersburg, died on Friday, January
6, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, from natural
causes.

on Tuesday, January 10, at the Calvary Baptist Church, with
burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. The

Bertha "Bert" Blome

FALLS—Bertha "Bert" Blome, 95, of Iowa Falls and formerly of
Alden, died on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Scenic
Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, January 10, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Buckeye, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls
Funeral Home in Alden, was in charge of the arrangements.
Bertha "Bert" Gertrude Lettow Blome, was born on October 11,
1916, the daughter of Emil Lettow and Marie Margaret Sielaff
Lettow. She grew up on a farm near Buckeye. Bert graduated
from the Buckeye High School in 1935. She then attended
Ellsworth College and received her degree and teaching
certificate on May 26, 1938. She taught at the country
school near Buckeye for two years. Bert married Vernon R.
Blome at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Buckeye, on June
19, 1940. They lived on a farm west of Buckeye for several
years before moving to their farm southwest of Alden. They
moved to the farm across the road in 1961 where she resided
until moving to the Ashbrook Assisted Living in Iowa Falls
and most recently residing at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Bert and Vernon were blessed with four children, William,
Thomas, Michael and Kathryn.
Bert was baptized and
confirmed at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Buckeye where
she was a lifetime member. She was very active in the Ladies
Aid and the church activities. Bert loved to garden, raising
her vegetables and providing countless flower bouquets for
the church. She was also well known for the many violets
that she grew and gave away. Bert was an excellent
seamstress and enjoyed making many quilts for her family.
She helped the church ladies make many quilts which were
donated to World Relief. She enjoyed baking, reading,
playing cards, and especially her family, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and many friends.
Bert is survived by three
of her children, Thomas (Judy) of Jackson, Missouri, Michael
(Kathy) of Alden and Kathryn Thompson of Ames; a
daughter-in-law, Judith Blome of Ankeny; 12 grandchildren;
and 19 great-grandchildren.
Bert was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon;
a son, William; one sister; and six brothers.
She is now with Jesus and all of her loved ones who preceded
her, therefore we rejoice with her.

ACKLEY—Donna
Mae (Dodd) Roegner, 79, of Ackley, passed away peacefully in
the Hospice of North Iowa at Mason City surrounded by family
on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
Funeral services will be
in the Geneva Methodist Church, at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
January 11. She will be laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery
with the Rev. Harry Imlay officiating. The Sietsema Funeral
Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Donna was born on December
8, 1932 in Hampton, to Victor and Marie (Taylor) Dodd. She
graduated from the Geneva High School in 1951. Donna was
united in marriage to Norman Roegner on September 16, 1951,
at the Geneva Methodist Church and to this union four
daughters were born. They lived and farmed in the Geneva
area before moving to Ackley in 1984.
Donna was a very loving
and devoted wife and mother all her life. She was very
active in the Geneva Methodist Church and a member of the
Abigail Circle. She was very involved with the planning and
decorating of the UMC Fellowship Hall. Donna was a wonderful
cook and one of her favorite things was helping out with
serving and preparing the many meals that were served at the
church over the years. Donna was very active her whole life.
She loved sewing, cooking, reading, shopping, gardening,
putting together puzzles, decorating, golfing and going to
all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. There
was nothing she loved more than spending time with her
family and friends.
Donna is survived by her
husband, Norman; her four daughters, Carol (Mike) Van Hove
of Ackley, Nancy (Steve) Mikelson of St. Peter, Minnesota,
Karen (Steve) Bruns of Alexander and Tracy Roegner of
Waverly; two brothers, Danny (Carolyn) Dodd of Bella Vista,
Arkansas and Bud Dodd of Geneva; sister-in-law, Teresa Dodd
of Gladstone, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Marie
Dodd; her sister and brother-in-law, Veneta and Darwin
Norman; her brother, Don Dodd; sister-in-law, Bonnie Dodd;
and grandson, Andrew Barz.

Jill Scott, 65, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, January
8, 2012, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
Private family services

She was born on July 17,
1946 in Grinnell, to Robert P. and Marian L. (McDonald)
Lord. Jill attended school in Mason City. She was born and
lived her early years in Iowa. Jill worked primarily in
newspaper advertising and spent 20 years in Gig Harbor,
before returning to Hampton to retire in 2006.
Jill enjoyed reading, the
beach and exploring the outdoors, but most of all spending
time with her dog, Pineapple. Her greatest gift was “keeper
of memories,” through photos of her family’s history. We
love and will miss you “Jilly Bean,” especially your
remarkable laughter.
She is survived by her
son, Tony Scott of Mason City; sisters, Judith C. Hill of
St. Paul, Minnesota and Connie Buxton of Boseman, Montana;
brothers, Steven Lord of Bremerton, Washington and David
Lord of Mexico; great-aunt, Evelyn Lee of Hampton;
grandchildren, Paige Scott of Mason City, Peyton Scott of
Mason City, Rachel Church of Joice and Scott Church of Joice;
close friends, Sharlene Sullivan of Ames, Ted Vosburg of
Hampton, Margann Vosburg of Hampton, Paul and Phylis Willis
of Thornton and also Ann and Sarah of Thornton; close

FALLS—Carl F. Richtsmeier, 92, of Iowa Falls and formerly of
Hampton, died at his home on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 14, at the United
Methodist Church in Hampton, with burial in the Hampton
Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the services at
the church. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, is in
charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the
family.
Carl passed away peacefully at his home in Iowa Falls on
January 11 at the age of 92 surrounded by his wife Doris,
and their four children. Carl was born on September 21, 1919
in Robertson, the son of Herman H. and Mazie (Bowers)
Richtsmeier. He was the eldest son in Herman and Mazie’s
family of seven children. He graduated from the Geneva High
School in 1938. On October 6, 1940, Carl was united in
marriage with Doris Boyenga at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. They recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Carl
was very proud to have served during World War II in the
U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He served as a Motor Machinist
Mate and .50 caliber machine gun gunner on an LSM in the
Pacific Theatre.
Carl was a lifetime member
of the VFW and a member of the American Legion Post #183 in
Hampton. Shortly after World War II started, Doris and Carl
moved to Seattle, Washington, where they were employed at
the Seattle-Tacoma shipyards for about two years. After Carl
came home from the war, he and his wife rolled up their
sleeves and, with the help of Doris’s father William
Boyenga, built their home in Hampton, where they lived for
the next 64 years. Carl and his wife Doris built and ran
Richie’s Drive-In on the south edge of Hampton from
1947-1953. Carl worked in the Hampton Post Office for 33
years, retiring as Postmaster in 1977. Carl was a member of
the United Methodist Church in Hampton. In 2007, Carl and
Doris moved to Oak Terrace in Iowa Falls.
Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and traveling to
visit his children. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed
growing vegetables, fruits and flowers to share with friends
and family. Carl had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to
tease and laugh. He was a devoted husband and father. He
dearly loved his family and was very proud of them. They all
loved him very much. He will be missed profoundly.
Carl is survived by his wife, Doris; his son, Ron
Richtsmeier and his wife, Judie of New Braunfels, Texas;
three daughters, Judy Schwab and her husband, Mike of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rhonda Richtsmeier and her
fiancé, Sam Johnson of Eagle River, Alaska and Debbie
Sietsema and her husband, Randy of Iowa Falls; six
grandchildren, Chad Schwab (Sarah) of Highlands Ranch,
Colorado, Cory Schwab (Rachael) of Denver, Colorado, Stacy
Dreessen (Joel) of Houston, Texas, Scott Sietsema (Blake
Peck) of Iowa Falls, Todd Sietsema (Adriane Gehl) of Iowa
Falls and Brooke Sietsema of Iowa Falls; four
great-grandchildren, Collin, Aiden and Talon Schwab and
Dylan Dreessen; and two sisters, Leola Chaney and her
husband, Jim of Hampton and Marian Johnson of Hampton.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil
"Dutch" Richtsmeier; three sisters, Merna Ites, Vera Claude
and Fern, who died as a child; and three brothers-in-law.

HEIGHTS—Randall “Randy” Clark Rodgers, 55, died on Thursday,
January 12, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines,
only a few hours before his 56th birthday.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, January 16, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Des
Moines. Interment followed in the Northlawn Memorial Gardens
in Iowa Falls. Randy was born on January 13, 1956, in
Waterloo and worked at Link Associates.
Randy will be sadly missed by his siblings, Karolyn (Dave)
Kadera of Lansing, Shirley (Jerry) Bradley of Des Moines,
Bob (Charleen) Rodgers of Cedar Falls, Dwight Rodgers of
Eldora and Peg (Sang) Albrecht of Oakdale, Minnesota; many
nieces and nephews; and his extended families of Robbie and
Zach Cheever and Tray and Rebecca Bradley.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Brighton and Laura Rodgers; and niece,
Tonyia Ohl. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may

Tina is the daughter of
David and Verla (Powell) Schlachter, born on December 27,
1959, in San Bernardino, California. At an early age, Tina’s
family moved to Iowa Falls, where she grew up and attended
school. Tina proudly raised two daughters and worked her
entire life in central Iowa. Among her numerous jobs, she
worked at Eureka in Webster City, Casey’s General Store in
Dows and at the Dows Junction on Interstate 35. Tina was
united in marriage to Dean Fouts on June 4, 2005 in Alden.
The couple made their home in Dows.
Tina enjoyed laughing and
spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing
cards and going to the Wild Rose Casino, where she was a
V.I.P. Tina also liked going for car rides, especially
convertibles.
Tina is survived by her husband, Dean; her father, David
Schlachter of Arkansas; her paternal grandfather, Ray
Schlachter of Arkansas; two daughters, Kim (Tim) Ostwinkle
of Des Moines and Trisha (Matt) Jackson of Buckeye; three
stepchildren, Scott, Brian and Debi; nine grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; three sisters; four brothers; and
numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her mother and step-father.

OMAHA, Nebraska—Dennis “Denny” Walker went to Heaven on
Monday, January 16, 2012, after a hard-fought battle with
pancreatic cancer.
He lived and worked in the Hampton and Iowa Falls areas from
1989- 1999 and eventually ended up in Omaha, Nebraska, where
he lived from 2006-2012. Denny was an avid fan of the Kansas
City Chiefs along with his three sons, Drew, Ethan and
Lucas. He also loved fishing and camping as well as
landscaping. He was also passionate about smoking various
meats, especially brisket, in his smoker and grilling out.
Denny is survived by his wife, Carolyn; mother, Frances
Morine Walker; sons, Drew, Ethan and Lucas Walker from Iowa
Falls; stepchildren, Ashley (Tony) Lutz and Dalan and Carley
Logan; brothers and sisters, Denise (Melvin) White, David
(Sherry) Walker, Diane (Dave) Andersen, Darla (Bob) Hunt and
Doug (Larissa) Walker; and many other relatives and friends.

Doris was born on April
19, 1922 in Brookings, South Dakota, the daughter of Charles
and Bess (Stewart) Sturgis. She graduated from the Ocheyedan
High School. On March 8, 1943, Doris was united in marriage
to William Thomas Kearney in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He
died on April 15, 2009. Doris and her good friend, Roberta
Cate will be fondly remembered by many in Alden for their
adventures and community involvement including, The Snack
Shack at the city pool, the Shelter House at the river,
their Sunday paper route, Sawdust and Stuff furniture
refinishing and their twin moped escapades.
Survivors include two
children, Mary J. Claassen of Swisher and Thomas S. Kearney
of Marion; grandchildren, Katelyn Opheim, Kelli Michalk and
Sean Kearney; and great-grandchildren, Kaden and McKenna
Michalk.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings,
Russell Sturgis, Allen Sturgis, Blanche Degraf, Ethel
Sturgis and Walter Sturgis; and her grandparents, Sara and
Walter Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the
Alzheimer’s Association, East Central Iowa, Cedar Rapids, in
William and Doris Kearney’s memory.

FALLS—Glenna Jean Mutschler, 76, of Iowa Falls, died on
Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Heritage Care Center in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, January 24, at the St. Peter’s United Church of
Christ in rural Geneva. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Glenna was born on
September 14, 1935 in Clarke County, the daughter of Glenn
and Geraldine (Charles) Allen. She graduated high school in
the early 1950s and received training in medical and x-ray
technology. On February 1, 1957, she was united in marriage
to Marvin M. Mutschler at the St. Luke Parsonage in Grand
Pass, Missouri. On May 31, 1957, she was baptized at the St.
Peter’s Evangelical Reformed Church. Glenna worked as a
medical laboratory and x-ray technician at the Iowa Falls
Hospital, Dr. Bob Johnson’s office in Iowa Falls and the
Franklin County Medical Center, retiring in the late 1990s.
She was a member of the
St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Geneva, the Order of
the Eastern Star Chapter 342 and a member of the State and
National level of Medical Laboratory and X-Ray Technicians.
Through her life, she exhibited a love of family and was
always supportive of all family members, especially nieces
and nephews. She was interested in genealogy and enjoyed
looking into her ancestry. Glenna was recognized with an
award for Outstanding Service by the Medical Laboratory and
X-Ray Technician Association in the early 1990s. After her
retirement, she enjoyed her morning coffee groups.
Glenna is survived by two brothers, Irvin (Celeste) Allen of
Huxley and Charles (Beverly) Allen of Ankeny; a sister,
Ellen Allen of Camarillo, California; two sisters-in-law,
Freda Emerson of California and Anna Mae Weikert of Iowa
Falls; a goddaughter, Julie Furman of Dallas, Texas; and
numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and
brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Henrietta Mutschler,
Eime and Dorothy Dohlman, Lester and Edith Mutschler, Robert
Weikert, Richard and Lorraine Mutschler, Edward and Mavis
Mutschler and James and Lois Mutschler.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Heritage
Care Center in Iowa Falls, for their patience and love in
caring for Glenna. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Heritage Care Center, Iowa
Falls.

MOINES—Marlys J. Jacobson, 86, passed away on Sunday,
January 22, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des
Moines.
Funeral services were held
at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines.
Marlys was born to Lewis
and Lydia Kratz, on a farm near Bradford on September 21,
1925. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School and
Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. She married
Walter Jacobson in 1947 and began her teaching career. She
later received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from
Drake University in Des Moines. She taught a total of 33
years.
Marlys was a member of the
Iowa and National Education Associations, Saydel Retired
Teachers, Des Moines, Retired School Personnel Associations,
Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, the PEO JZ Chapter, Friendship
Force of Des Moines and several square dance clubs. She was
a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church,
serving along the way in various capacities in work groups
and Christian education as a Sunday School and Bible School
teacher and a caller on shut-ins. She loved learning all of
her life and in retirement enjoyed attending Elderhostels.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill; one sister, Jan
(Roger) Corbin; one sister-in-law, Alma Jacobson; many
nieces and nephews, other loving relatives and many special
friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Walter; and her daughter,
Kathy.

FALLS—Oscar J. Webber, 70, from Marshalltown, formally of
Iowa Falls, died on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Mercy
Hospital in Des Moines.
A celebration of life will
be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 28, at the Surls
Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Oscar J. Webber, was born
on June 22, 1941, in the former Webber family home, located
in Iowa Falls. He was the younger of two children born to
Dr. Scott I. and Eva Elizabeth Hogan Webber. Upon graduating
from the Iowa Falls High School on May 26, 1959, he joined
the United States Navy. After 22 years of faithful and
honorable service to his country, he retired a hospital
corpsman first class, with a certification in x-ray
technology.
In his retirement years,
he enjoyed traveling with his sister, Olive to most of the
lower 48 states and Canada. Oscar’s one true passion was his
ancestry and discovering his heritage that he was very proud
of. He also loved animals and had several canine companions
through the years. He was a very compassionate and giving
person as he volunteered much of his time to the Iowa River
Hospice and the House of Compassion, both located in
Marshalltown. He loved to play Cribbage and Upwords with his
family and friends; more accurately, he loved to beat them
at the games and over the years has proven to be very good
at it.
He is survived by his five nieces and nephews, of whom he
was a father figure and mentor for many years, Russell S.
Norem of Des Moines, Kathy McDonald of Bondurant, Marie
(Mark) Oakley of Ackworth, Thomas A. (Lori) of Des Moines
and Anthony T. (Karen) Norem of Centerville, Ohio; his six
great-nieces and nephews, Heather (Tramayne) Purser of
Huxley, Ashley and Eli Norem of Des Moines, Andrew McDonald
of Indianola, Christopher (Ashley) Foster of Ankeny and
Kristy of Centerville, Ohio; four great-great-nieces and
nephews, Chloe and Dierks Purser of Huxley and Levi Ryan and
Caisen Scott Foster of Ankeny; and two favorite cousins,
Jolene Thompson and Linda Manske of Iowa Falls.
Oscar was preceded in death and will be reunited with his
sister, Olive M. Webber Norem; his father, Dr. Scott I.
Webber; his mother, Eva Elizabeth Hogan Webber; his
grandparents; and many other relatives, friends and his
loyal companions, Cope and Spring.
In lieu of flowers, the families ask that donations be made
to the House of Compassion in Marshalltown.

FALLS—Opal Christensen, 87, of Iowa Falls, passed away on

Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the First

Opal Finola Smith, was born on February 3, 1924 at New
Market, the daughter of James C. and Rose Nell (Darold)
Smith. She attended school in College Springs. On June 27,
1940, Opal was united in marriage to James “Lowell”
Christensen at Coin. To this union four children were born,
Carolyn, Susan, Lowell Jr. and Deniese. She was a homemaker
for many years and also a partner and bookkeeper for Chris
and Son Body Shop and Chris’s Honda and Chrome Shop.
She was a member of the
First Church of God, Iowa Falls and the Women of the Church
of God.
Opal Christensen is
survived by her husband, Lowell Christensen of Iowa Falls;
her children, Carolyn (Sonny) Lange of Iowa Falls, Susan
(Phillip) Eggleston of Sherman, Texas, Lowell Jr. (Peggy)
Christensen of Riverside, California and Deniese (David)
Webb of Owasso, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Hall of Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma and Eulalee Warneke of Weslaco, Texas.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Rose and James Smith; a granddaughter, Lisa
Lange; a grandson, Danny Lange; a son-in-law, Dennis Dillon;
three brothers, Walter Smith, Harry Smith and Ernie Smith;
and four sisters, Ermol Kelso, Audrey Davis, Verna Smith and
Hilda Lyman.

DOWS—Fern
D. Gorder, 97, of Dows, died on Saturday, January 28, 2012,
at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, February 2, at the First Lutheran Church in
Dows, with Pastor Ronald Nelson officiating. Burial took
place in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. The Dugger Funeral
Home in Dows, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials
may be made in Fern D. Gorder’s name to the family.
Fern Deloris Gorder, the daughter of Rudolph and Beulah (Steiff)
Rollene, was born on May 17, 1914 in Morgan Township,
Franklin County. She attended rural schools and graduated
from the Dows High School in 1931. She was united in
marriage to Raymond Gorder on September 23, 1936 in Dows, at
her parents’ home. To this union two children were born.
Raymond and Fern farmed for six years northeast of Dows and
then moved to their farm two miles north of Popejoy, where
they farmed until Raymond retired. Fern was very proud of
their family farm and said she would never live anywhere
else. She lived there 69 years before moving to the Scenic
Manor in the fall of 2011.
Fern loved taking care of her home, her family and flowers.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and remained a
faithful member until her death. She was an active member of
the church, being confirmed in 1941, a member of the First
Lutheran Church Women and a Sunshine Lady. She was an active
member of the Dows Senior Center and one of the originating
members and over the years held several offices. She was
also selected as the Wright County Outstanding Senior
Citizen in Fort Dodge in 1982. Raymond and Fern loved
traveling and they took many memorable vacations. After
Raymond retired, they continued with shorter bus trips. Fern
enjoyed these trips and continued taking bus trips after his
death with her sister, Lucille.
Fern is survived by her son, Merlin and his wife, Julie
Gorder of Dows; her daughter, Marcia Gorder and PJ
Parry-Jones of Fort Dodge; grandsons, Lon (Lisa) Gorder of
Buckingham, Jeffrey Gorder of Mason City, Steven (Sheena)
Gorder of Indianola and Michael (Carie) Burgher of Dallas
Center; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob and Carlie Gorder,
Dalton, Carter, and Eleanor Gorder, Hank Gorder and Brooklyn
and Brody Burgher; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Dow of
Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Patricia (Clint) Meyer of Iowa
Falls; and very special friend, Dena Boor.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Rudolph and Beulah Rollene; husband, Raymond
on April 21, 1990; brothers, Milo, Dale and Verl Rollene;
sister, Lucille Miller; sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Ruth
Rollene; and brothers-in-law, Glen and Bruce Miller.

Ites, 87, of Alden, died on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the
Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.

held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, February 1, at the United
Methodist Church in Alden, with burial in the Alden
Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, is in charge
of the arrangements.
Ruth Geraldine Ites, was born on February 24, 1924 at her
parents’ home, north of Iowa Falls, to Gerald and Katie
Meyer. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in
1942. She married Robert G. Ites on February 3, 1944. They
farmed south of Alden all of their lives until moving to
Alden in 1996. She was a member of the Methodist Church in
Alden. She loved baking, dancing and playing cards.
She is survived by a
daughter, Karen Lykam and husband, Jack of Davenport; a son,
Larry Ites and wife, Patti of Alden; grandchildren, Shawn
and Colleen Ites of Dexter, Shawn and Monique Ites of
McCloud, California, Jerry and Deb Brown of Bettendorf and
Dee Lykam of Davenport; great-grandchildren, Madison Paige
Ites and Melanie Ruth Ites and Jason and John Brown; a
sister, Elena Ites; and her Shih Tzu, “Honey.”
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Robert; her parents; and one brother, Alvin
Meyer.
The family asks that memorials be directed to Lynn Bollinger
for the Veterans Memorial Fund at the Alden Cemetery.

FALLS—Marjorie Wilson, 86, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, February 3, at the First Christian Church, with
burial in the Union Cemetery, both in Iowa Falls. The Linn’s
Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was entrusted with the
arrangements.
Marjorie June Bitters, was
born on August 22, 1925 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of Edgar
William Carl and Everetta (Wescott) Bitters. She attended
the Iowa Falls Community Schools. On April 12, 1945,
Marjorie was united in marriage to Harvey B. Wilson at
Hampton. To this union two sons were born, Ronald and
Donald. Marjorie was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Ronald (Jean) Wilson of
Indianola and Donald Wilson of Iowa Falls; five
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister,
Betty Jean Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Everetta
Bitters; and her siblings, Howard Bitters, Dorothy Wiseman
and Glenn Bitters.
