VINTON—Bernice Stover, 93,
died on Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Vinton Lutheran
Home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 5, at the Phillips
Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton, where friends may
call from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Interment will
be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, in the Northlawn Memory
Gardens in Iowa Falls. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may
be given to the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Bernice was born on March
2, 1917 at Conrad, to John and Elizabeth (Hundertmark)
Markwitz. She graduated from the Conrad High School. On
January 8, 1937, she married Merle Stover in Missouri. He
preceded her in death in August 1994.
Bernice was a member of
the Methodist Church in Iowa Falls for over 50 years. A
loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother, she enjoyed cooking, quilting and
sewing for family and friends.
Survivors include her
daughter, Claudette (Mert) Alpers of Vinton; her sons,
Ronald (Jean) Stover of Norfolk, Virginia and Jon (Mary)
Stover of Iowa Falls; her grandchildren, Luann (Kurt) Karr
of Vinton, Jolynn (Mike) Roths of Stevensville, Montana,
Brent (Carrie) Stover of Florence, Kentucky, Kristin (Brian)
Tidman of New Providence and Keith (Chrissie) Stover and
Daryn (Jennifer) Stover of Norfolk, Virgina and Cindy Stover
(Carl Whelan) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her
sister-in-law, Darlene Markwitz of Conrad; and many nieces
and nephews.
In addition to her parents
and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and
three sisters.

HUBBARD—Marie
C. Ott, 98, of Hubbard, died on Saturday, January 1, 2011,
at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral services were held
on Wednesday, January 5, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church
in Buckeye, with the Rev. Jay Jaeger officiating. Marie was
buried at Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls. The Boeke
Funeral Home in Hubbard, was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Hubbard Care Center or the
St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Marie Clara (Bartz) was
born on February 23, 1912, on a farm near Highmore, S.D. She
was the seventh of nine children born to Edward and Maria
(Becker) Bartz. Marie received her education by attending
country school and graduated from the Highmore High School.
She then received her normal training so she could teach
rural schools. She taught school for two years. While
helping her sister care for a newborn, she met her husband,
Arthur Ott, in Butterfield, Minn. They were married on April
10, 1937 in Hubbard, by the Rev. John Schliepsick. After
their marriage, they moved to a farm northwest of Hubbard,
where they farmed their entire working lives.
Marie enjoyed helping in
the daily farming operations, gardening and cooking. She
especially enjoyed spending time with her children and their
families. She was an avid card and game player. She moved
into the Sunrise Apartments in Radcliffe in 1989 and resided
there until the fall of 2006. She has resided at the Hubbard
Care Center since. She was an active member of St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Buckeye.
Those remaining to cherish
her memory include her daughter, Joyce (Richard) Hanson of
Hubbard; one daughter-in-law, Rita (Bob) Schmidt of Sioux
Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren, Debra (Jose Bonilla) Weber,
Kevin (Robin) Tuttle, Kari (Kyle) Janes, Kurtis (Sherry)
Tuttle and Kory (Stacie) Tuttle; 16 great-grandchildren; 12
great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandson;
four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren and
five step-great-great-grandchildren; along with many other
relatives and special friends.
Marie was preceded in
death by her parents; one son, Wayne; her husband, Arthur;
one brother; and seven sisters.

Harold Bergman, 92, of Parkersburg, died on Sunday, January
2, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be
at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 6, at the Bethel
Lutheran Church, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both
in Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m., on
Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in
Parkersburg and continue for one hour prior to the services
at the church.

CEDAR FALLS—Carolyn Ruth
Petersen Eaton, 90, of Cedar Falls, died on Monday, January
3, 2011, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin
Health Center.
She was born on June 25,
1920 in Waterloo, the daughter of James O. and Murial
(Bishop) Lowe. Carolyn graduated from West High School in
Waterloo. She married Parker N. Petersen on March 31, 1940,
in Waterloo and he preceded her in death on September 30,
1995. She married James Eaton on December 12, 1998 and he
preceded her in death on July 17, 2003.
In 1958, Carolyn and
Parker opened and managed Carolyn's Fashion Fabrics in Cedar
Falls and Waterloo. After a number of years they sold their
business and purchased a farm where they lived until
Parker's death. They enjoyed many years traveling and
wintering in Arizona. Most recently, Carolyn lived in the
Western Home Communities, where she enjoyed many
friendships. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two
daughters, Sue (Jerry) Welden of Iowa Falls and Judy
(George) Jorgensen of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Buckingham of
New Braunfels, Texas.
Carolyn was preceded in
death by her parents; her husbands; and one granddaughter,
Kathy Jo Cranston McFadden.

Hove, 87, of Hampton, passed away on Monday, January 3,
2011, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, January 7, at the Zion Reformed Church in rural
Sheffield, with the Rev. Arthur J. Zewert officiating.
Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley. The
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton was in charge of the
arrangements.

FALLS—Rollie Krieger,, 70, of Iowa Falls, passed away
Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center, Mason
City.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday,
January 8, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls.
Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The
Linn's Funeral Home Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the
arrangements.
Rolland John Krieger, was
born March 30, 1940, the son of Ida Dorothy (Albers) and
Richard Carl Krieger. He attended the Mason City Community
Schools, graduating with the class of 1958. He then attended
State College of Iowa (UNI), graduating with a B.A. in
science teaching in 1962. He taught school at the Rockwell/Swaledale
Community Schools from 1962 to 1965, when he returned to
college at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colorado,
receiving a B.A. degree in wildlife management in 1967. He
worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from 1967 to
1984. In 1984, Rollie purchased a greenhouse in Iowa Falls,
being the proprietor of Krieger's Greenhouse, Floral, and
Garden from 1984 until retirement in 2006. He chose to
continue working for Iowa Select Farms and driving the
Ellsworth athletic bus thereafter.
On June 11, 1961, Rollie
was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Meeker at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mason City. To this union three
children were born: Carol Lynn, John Rolland and Karin
Elizabeth.
Rollie
was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls,
where he served as usher, greeter and member of the choir
for many years. He was also a member of the Iowa Falls Lions
Club, served on the Iowa Falls Parks and Recreation Board of
Directors, and was a former member of Iowa Falls
Chamber/Main Street. He was an avid fisherman, loved the
outdoors, and doted on his granddaughters.
Rollie
Krieger is survived by his wife, Pat Krieger of Iowa Falls;
his son, John Krieger of Laguna Hills, Calif.; his daughter,
Kari Beth (Pat Perez) Krieger of New Franken, Wis.; two
grandchildren, Anastacia Elizabeth Krieger and Alexandria
Allana Perez, both of New Franken, Wis.; two sisters,
Dorothy (Vic) Wenger of Minneapolis, Minn. and Gretchen
(Del) Sparks of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Dennis (Diana)
Krieger of Iowa Falls; and one sister-in-law, Ileta Krieger
of Onslow.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Ida and Richard Krieger; an infant daughter,
Carol Lynn Krieger; and one brother, Eugene Krieger.

PROVIDENCE—James "Edward" Faris, 87, of New Providence, died
on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Israel Family Hospice
House in Ames.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Saturday, January 8, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Eldora, with Father Rick Dagit celebrating. Burial will
follow in the New Providence Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., on
Saturday. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, is in
charge of the arrangements.
Ed was born on June 12,
1923, to James Howard and Edith (Seward) Faris on the Keller
farm near Hubbard. He was the oldest of four children and
attended school at Chester in rural New Providence,
graduating from the New Providence High School in 1941. He
served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
Ed returned to New Providence to farm and met Mary Tucker,
marrying her on April 4, 1948, at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in St. Anthony. They are the parents of five
children.
Ed enjoyed bird-watching
from his easy chair. Spring brought the excitement of the
hunt for a new crop of mushrooms. He loved to garden and
shared the bounty of his harvest with friends and neighbors.
There were numerous cream can dinners and breakfasts served
at Reece Park and Gifford. He spent hours working in his
woodworking shop, serving as tour guide for many visiting
hunters, watching the eagles, and always had a good story to
tell. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. He
was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Union
American Legion.
Surviving is his wife,
Mary; children, Denny and Dianne Faris of Union, Richard
"Dick" and Cathy Faris of Eldora, Greg and Susan Faris of
Plymouth, Minn., Kim and Nancy Faris of Union, and Kay and
Denny Held of Hubbard; sister, Rosemary Wellman of
Marceline, Mo.; brother, Gary (Joyce) Faris of Iowa Falls;
sister-in-law, Zenna Faris of Marshalltown; grandchildren,
Jacob, Jay, Wes, Clay, Whitney, Landon, Slade and Scott;
great-grandchildren, Jade, Logan, Holden, Wyler, Joshua and
Camryn; and by Rudy.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and by a brother, Leo.

the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, is in charge of the
arrangements.
Ray Allen Kline, was born
on May 24, 1925 in Iowa Falls, to Henry and Carrie (Rassmussen)
Kline. Ray graduated from the Iowa Falls High School. On
September 29, 1947, Ray was united in marriage to Carmella
Ann Elbert at St. Cecilia in Algona. Ray was involved with
the Knights of Columbus, Mid Iowa Work Shop, CIRSI Board,
ARC, and the St. Mark Church. Ray owned and ran Ray's in
Alden and also Ray Kline Real Estate.
Ray is survived by his
wife, Carmella; a son, John (Jan) Allen Kline of Roland;
daughter, Mary Ann Kline of Marshalltown; two
granddaughters, Nicole Kline of Ankeny and Maria (Justin)
Andersen of Ames; two great-granddaughters, Lillyan Grace
and Faythe Andersen; and a brother, Hary Kline of Mesa,
Ariz.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

Russell G. Bridges

DOWS—Russell G. Bridges,
77, of Dows, died on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the
Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
Memorial services were
held Tuesday January 11, at the United Methodist Church in
Dows, with Pastor Kalin Fristad officiating. Burial will
take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows at a later date.
Russell has donated his body to the University of Iowa's
Department of Anatomy. The Dugger Funeral Home of Dows is in
charge of the arrangements.
Russell George, the son of
Donald and Fern Carpenter Bridges, was born April 1, 1933,
near Dows. He grew up in the Dows area where he attended
schools. Russell graduated from Dows High School in 1951. He
went directly into the U.S. Navy. Russell served his country
in Korea from 1951 until 1956.
Russell was united in
marriage to Patricia Schnieder on March 26, 1956, at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple later divorced,
but remained friends until his death. He began working with
Morris Schaeffer Construction in Dows and then later moved
to King Construction in Iowa Falls. Russell was employed by
King Construction for 26 years, which later became C&R
Bridges Erectors Company. Then in 1986 he went to work for
Weideman Construction, until retiring in 1996. Russell
raised his family and lived a major part of his life in
Alden. In the last years of his life, he resided in
California and then Dows.
Russell belonged to the
American Legion Post in Alden and Dows. He was also a member
of an American Legion Post in California. Russell, very
proud of his service to country, also belonged to Veterans
of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
Russell is survived by his
children, Carter (Kay) of Alden, Tanya Bridges of Dows, Kim
Johnston (Rick) of Alden, Brenda Kurauskas (Al) of Alden,
Todd (Dometila) of Ranchero Cucamonga, California and
Melinda Life (Brad) of Ankeny; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer
Bridges, Stephanie Frost, Kristen Bailey, Teresa Mueller,
Brandon Bridges, Brian Fouts, Rick Johnston, Joe Johnston,
Jered Johnston,
Alexandra Kurauskas, Ryan Bridges, Zachary Wagoner and
Parker Wagoner; 10 great-grandchildren; friend, Patricia
Schnieder; and three sisters, Vivian Schaeffer of Ventura,
California, Donna Johnson of Stratford and Helen Alverson of
Dows.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; step-mother, Marie Root Bridges; a brother
in infancy; four sisters, Viola, Opal, Corrine and Eva; and
two brothers, Virgil and Eddie.

Marjorie J. (Sayer) Schwarck

NEW PROVIDENCE—Marjorie J. (Sayer) Schwarck, 88, of New
Providence, went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 7,
2011 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, January 11, at the Honey Creek New
Providence Friends Church in New Providence. Burial followed
in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Eldora. The Creps-Abels
Funeral Home in Eldora was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Quakerdale, Honey Creek New
Providence Friends Church, or to the Chapel Cemetery
Society.
Marjorie was born on August 24, 1922, in Nokomis,
Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of Charles A. and Tryphosa (Rorabaugh)
Svendsen. She enjoyed Canada as a child and then moved with
her family to the New Providence area in 1932. She graduated
from the New Providence High School in 1941. On September
16, 1945, Marjorie was united in marriage to Wendell Robert
Sayer and to this union were born children Philip, Brenda,
and Janet. Marjorie and Wendell also added to the family a
son, Chuck Emblen. Over the years many foster children also
became a part of their family. Wendell departed this life in
March of 1984. Marjorie was married to Dale Schwarck on
December 26, 1987. Devoted, always by her side, Dale
survives Marjorie.
Marjorie loved music and freely shared her talents with
many; teaching piano and voice, serving as an organist,
soloist, pianist, and as an accomplished whistler. Her
involvement with young people involved serving as
accompanist for vocal and instrumental contestants at local
schools, leading Junior Choir and Choir at New Providence
High, Youth Leader at New Providence Church, and teaching
Sunday School. Marjorie also served as director at Dorothy's
Senior Center in Eldora. She was a very active member of the
Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church, the Chapel
Cemetery Society, and a former member of the Eldora American
Legion Auxiliary. She also enjoyed gardening and bird
watching.
She is survived by her husband, Dale; children, Philip (Jan)
Sayer of Nevada, Brenda (Bob) Crabb of New Providence, Janet
Aswegan of Wabash, Indiana and Chuck Emblen of Johnston;
grandchildren, Angie Sayer (Wes Moler), Nikki (Nick)
Brubaker, Neena (Roger) Bentley, Carrie (Chad) Price and
Jake Emblen; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emely, Lloyd,
Zoe, Layne, Josey, Jessica, Daria and TJ; step-children, Rae
Jean (Roger) of Albert City, Claudia (Lynn) of Lansing,
Gaylene (Roger) of Ackley and Marty (Pam) of Eldora;
step-great-grandchildren, Kris (Paul), Dan, Jordan and
Jared.
Preceding her in death was
her first husband, Wendell; her parents, brother and
sister-in-law, Charles Svendsen Jr. and Beatrice; and
grandson, Steve Sayer.
Marjorie had a deep love of God, family, her church family,
friends and community, music, and life. She was generous of
herself to a fault. We rejoice for her now!

88, of Iowa Falls, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at
the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 13, at the
St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls. Inurnment will be at
a later date in the St. Mark Cemetery, Iowa Falls. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Verle
and Marie Stucker Scholar-ship Fund, 1100 College Ave., Iowa
Falls, IA 50126. The Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, has
been entrusted with the arrangements.
Marie Vivian Kelly, was
born on May 17, 1922, at Waterloo, the daughter of Joseph
and Rita (Burnham) Kelly. She attended the St. Mary's School
in Waterloo, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1939.
As a young person she enjoyed playing the violin and playing
tennis. She attended the University of Iowa and graduated
from there in 1943 with a degree in pharmacy. After leaving
college her first job was with Abbott Laboratories in
Chicago, Illinois. She was involved with their research on
the use of animal blood as an ingredient in a product used
in fighting shipboard oil fires. Her second job was with
Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago as a pharmacist. While
working in Chicago she met Verle Stucker. They were married
on July 27, 1946, in Waterloo.
Marie and Verle moved to
Kearney, Nebraska, where he would continue his college
education after interruption by World War II. She worked for
local pharmacies while they resided there. Upon completion
of Verle's degree at Kearney State, they moved to
Bennington, Nebraska. Marie worked for pharmacies in the
Omaha area. Their son Mike was born in Omaha in 1950. The
family moved to Riverton, Iowa. While living there Marie
worked for drug stores and pharmacies in Shenandoah and in
southwestern Iowa.
In 1957, the family moved
to Iowa Falls where she has resided ever since. During the
rest of her working years, she was employed in several drug
stores and pharmacies in Iowa Falls, Radcliffe, Hubbard and
Eldora. She began the Pharmacy Department at Ellsworth
Municipal Hospital and was the pharmacist there for many
years. Marie enjoyed traveling the USA and several foreign
countries with her husband, family and friends. She was a
longtime member of St. Mark Parish in Iowa Falls.
Marie Stucker is survived
by her husband, Verle Stucker of Iowa Falls; her son, Mike
(Nikki) Stucker of Casper, Wyoming; three grandchildren,
Corrie (Kevin) Whitman of Casper, Wyoming, TSgt Kodi Stucker
of Robinson, Texas and Capt. Seansi Stucker of Augusta,
Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Bryce Whitman of
Casper, Wyoming; her two brothers: Eugene (Betty) Kelly of
Fort Dodge and John (Corrine) Kelly of Waterloo; her sister,
Marguerite Kyle of Ft. Worth, Texas; and their families. She
loved her family deeply as she did her favorite dog, Sam.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Rita and Joseph Kelly.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Community Living Center at

In honor of his 75th
birthday, a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Saturday, April 2, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in
rural Hampton, with Pastor David Bernhardt officiating. A
visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the

82, of Dumont, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011,

Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont, with burial

Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of
Hampton, from natural causes.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 15, at the
Aplington Baptist Church with burial in Pleasant View
Cemetery, both in Aplington. Visitation will be on Saturday,
from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Dick, 88, formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday,
January 13, 2011, at the Driftwood Health Care Center, where
he had been a resident for two months.
Bill was born in Iowa
Falls, where he attended Iowa Falls College, studying
agriculture. Services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
in Carmel Valley, California and will be announced at a
later date.

IOWA FALLS—Carl E. Kienol,
84, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 15,
2011, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, January 18, at the United Methodist Church,
Allen. Burial was in the Alden Township Cemetery,
with military honors provided by the Collins-Dunning
American Legion Post #201, Alden. Memorials may be directed
to the Alden American Legion Post #201, P.O. Box 32, Alden,
IA 50006. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has
been entrusted with the arrangements.
Carl Emil Kienol, was born
on February 10, 1926 at Popejoy, the son of Herman Carl and
Ella Johanna (Hartkopp) Kienol. He attended country grade
school and graduated from the Popejoy High School with the
class of 1944. He served with the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. On April 23, 1951, Carl was united in marriage
to Norma Jean Zacharias at Ackley. To this union three
children were born: Carroll, Cheryl and Michael. Carl worked
as a manager for American Cyanamid, Alden, and worked for
them over 56 years.
He was a member of the
United Methodist Church, Alden; served as a volunteer
firefighter with the Alden Fire Department starting in 1955
and retiring as the fire chief in 1990; served as mayor of
Alden from 1968 to 1972; and was a member of the
Collins-Dunning American Legion Post #201, Alden.
Carl E. Kienol is survived
by his wife, Norma Kienol of Iowa Falls; his children,
Carroll (Karen) Kienol of Waterloo, Cheryl (Darwin) Bates of
Iowa Falls and Michael Kienol of Altoona; eight
grandchildren, Erica Kienol of Waterloo, Aaron Kienol of
Ames, Zachary Kienol
of Waterloo, Daryn (Elisha) Bates of Grimes, Stephanie Bates
of Le Sueur, Minn., Ashley Mitchell of Emmetsburg, Austin
Kienol of Mallard and Anna Kienol of Mallard; one
great-grandchild, Elizabeth Suter of Le Sueur, Minn.; and
one brother, Glenn Kienol of Shelbina, Mo.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Ella and Herman Kienol; and three sisters,
Ruth Rout, Marie Nielsen and Alice Watt.

of Hampton and formerly of Alden, passed away on Sunday,
January 16, 2011, at the Hampton Health Care Center.

Jerry George Beers, was
born on January 9, 1939 at Iowa Falls, the son of Theodore
and Ferne (Case) Beers. He has resided at the Hampton Health
Care Center since 1974.
Jerry is survived by his
cousins, George (Eide) Case of Clear Lake, Beth Crabtree of
Iowa Falls and Phyllis (Ronald) Buckley of Leland, N.C.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Ted and Ferne Beers; his grandparents, Lorin
and Ellen (Littschwager) Case; and two uncles, Dale Case and
Derald Case.

ELDORA—Jean
A. Dreier, 88, of Eldora, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011,
at the Valley View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in
Eldora.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, January 20, at the Salem United Methodist
Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Corey Larson and the Rev.
Brian McNamara officiating. Jean was buried in the Hubbard
Cemetery. The Boeke Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Jean Ann Dreier, was born
on Dec. 16, 1922, on the Stielow family farm near Owasa. She
was the younger of two sisters born to Henry and Nellie (Crippen)
Stielow. She received her education by attending the Owasa
Public School where she graduated with the Class of 1940. On
Dec. 18, 1940, Jean was united in marriage to Stanley Dreier
at the Salem Evangelical Church (now Salem United Methodist)
in Hubbard. They started their married life on the Dreier
family farm in the Point Pleasant community. They raised
three unique children on this farm.
Jean was an attentive
mother who always enjoyed her family and the timber area of
the farm - a wonderful place to ride horses and have
picnics. They moved to Eldora in 1972. She worked in a
couple of retail stores and as a bank teller. She also loved
to babysit with grandchildren, play golf and bridge, and
read books. She was actively involved in the church,
including ladies fellowship and the church choir.
Those thankful for having
shared her life include her husband, Stanley of Eldora; one
daughter, Sonja and her husband "Buzz" Rekers of Pleasant
Valley; two sons, David and his wife Peg of Sandpoint, Idaho
and Tim and his wife, Rita of Hubbard; six grandchildren,
Angela and Jason Rekers, Jade and Josh Dreier, Brittany Koop
and Tanner Dreier; six great-grandchildren; along with many
other relatives and friends.
Jean was preceded in death
by her parents; one great-granddaughter, Willow; and one
sister, Cleo Ward.

FALLS—Helen M. Bullen, 79, passed away on Tuesday, January
18, 2011, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of her life
will be held on Saturday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m., at the
First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Family will be
present one hour before the services.
Helen was born on July 13,
1931 in Hinsdale, Illinois, to Mark and Gladys Ferguson. She
married John BuIlen on December 13, 1952.
She is survived by her
sons, Mike (Linda) Bullen of Marshalltown and Dan (Beth)
Bullen of Itasca, Ill.; her daughters, Amy (Bruce) Campbell
of Norwalk, Janan (Doug) Burns of Johnston and Suzanne
(Scot) Starbeck of Cedar Falls; her sister, Lila (Bill)
Feltus of Charles City; her grandchildren, Katherine BuIlen,
Mark Bullen, Sarah Bullen, Rachel Sullen, A.J. Burns, Alex
Burns, Adam Burns, Jenna May Starbeck, Kari Sue Starbeck,
Laura Lee Starbeck, Bridget Campbell, Justin Campbell, Nancy
(Brent) Baerenwald and Jeff (Mandl) Beeghly;
great-grandchildren, Lucas Halverson, Ashlee Halverson and
Lindsay Beeghly; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in
death by her parents; sister, Jean Meyer; and husband.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the Methodist church or to the family (Array
Campbell, 1944 Swan Ct., Norwalk, IA) to assists in
purchasing season pool passes for the less fortunate in Iowa
Falls.

78, of Alden, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at
the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, January 24, at the Linn's
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 4-6:00
p.m., on Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the
Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Sioux City.
Richard Duane Jensen, was
born on Oct. 2, 1932 at Mapleton, the son of Carl Mark and
Wilma Opal (Connor) Jensen. He graduated from the Mapleton
Community Schools with the class of 1950. He then served in
the U.S. Army in Battery B for two years in Korea and then
six years in the Army Reserves. On May 18, 1956, Richard was
united in marriage to Ellen Leona Harlan at Sioux Falls,
S.D. To this union two children were born, Kimberly and
Debra. Richard had worked for Prestressed Concrete and was
an auto mechanic with Richs Standard, Lynn's Standard,
Beckman Ford and Doug Daniel Autoland, all of Iowa Falls.
Richard D. Jensen is
survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Shane of Iowa
Falls and Debra (Milton) Murphy of Iowa Falls; four
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters,
Karleen (Dick) Karstens of Niceville, Florida and Virginia
(Harlan) Southwick of Waukee.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Carl and Wilma Jensen; and his wife, Ellen
Jensen.

PUNTA GORDA, FLA.—Louis F.
Cardin, 81, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Cedar
Rapids, Marshalltown, Iowa Falls, Jefferson and Guthrie
Center, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011, after a
short battle with cancer.
Lou was the youngest of
seven children born to Louis and Bertha Cardin of Sheldon,
Iowa on June 15, 1929. He worked as a regional manager for
Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. for 35 years. After
retiring Lou worked for Century 21 Real Estate in Marion,
Iowa. In 1989, Lou and his wife, Loretta, moved to Florida.
They were married 55 years.
Lou was preceded in death
by his loving wife, Loretta; daughter, Diane; sisters,
Angie, Ann and Bernadette; and brothers, Lincoln, Clement
and George.
He was an avid golfer and
loved traveling. He leaves behind his love, memories, humor
and legacy of hard work and perseverance to his three sons,
Louis Jr. (Annette) of Vallejo, California, Lloyd (Diana) of
Marion, Iowa and James of Milford, Ohio; four
granddaughters, Taryn Cardin of Chicago, Emily Hoemberg, Amy
Wright and Laura Bergen, two great-granddaughters and a
great-grandson, all of Minnesota; and nieces, Ruth Viola and
Cathy Conner.
He Will be greatly missed
by the many friends who admired and loved him. Memorial
services are planned for Saturday, April 16, at 10 30 a.m.
at the Riverside Cemetery chapel in Marshalltown.

IOWA FALLS—Edna Mae Bakker, 81, of Iowa Falls, passed away
on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Heritage Care Center,
Iowa Falls.
In accordance with Edna's
wishes her body was donated to Des Moines University, Des
Moines. Private family services will be held. The Linn's
Funeral Home, Iowa Fads, was entrusted to handle Edna's
wishes.
Edna Mae Tjarks, was born
on January 11, 1930 in Franklin County, the daughter, of
Minn O. and Agnes (Anderson) Tjarks. She graduated from the
Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1948. Edna Mae was
united in marriage to Norman Osvog in 1948. To this union
three children were born, Anna Marie, Gregory and Lynn. The
couple later divorced. On August 4, 1956, she was united in
marriage to Mennie John Bakker at Iowa Falls. To this union
two children were born, Valerie and Denise.
Edna was a homemaker,
mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Bethany
Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, the Women of the Moose #1108,
Iowa Falls and the Golden Antlers of the Moose.
Edna Mae Bakker is
survived by her children, Anna Marie (David) Adams of
Humboldt, Gregory Bakker of Hampton, Lynn Bakker of El
Cajon, California, Valerie (David) Schaefer of Clear Lake
and Denise (Mark) Haglund of Webster City; 13 grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Norris of
Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Agnes and Minn Tjarks; her husband, Mennie
Bakker; and one sister, Betty Trittien.

Everett Lowell Strathe

HUBBARD—Everett Lowell Strathe, 92, of Hubbard, died on
Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Hubbard Care Center,
Hubbard.
Funeral services were held
on Wednesday, January 26, at the Salem United Methodist
Church in Hubbard, with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hubbard
Ambulance, Hubbard. The Boeke Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Everett was born on July
3, 1918, to Herman and Alvina Kuhlman Strathe. He was a
lifetime member of the Hubbard community, graduating from
the Hubbard High School in 1936. Everett married Mildred
Montgomery, a home economics and science teacher for the
Hubbard School District, in June of 1942. He was inducted
into the Army Air Force in July of that year, where he
served as an aerial gunnery instructor in the U.S. and in
England. During his service, Everett was awarded a special
commendation for his leadership and enforcement of nighttime
blackout procedures on the ocean liner Queen Mary during a
transatlantic troop crossing. He was honorably discharged in
October, 1945, and returned home to Hubbard to farm with his
father.
Everett spent his life as
a steward of the land. While still in high school, he
crossed, raised and sold the first hybrid seed corn in
Hardin County. Upon returning from military service, he
farmed and sold hybrid seed corn under the brand Hubbard
Seed. Everett was especially passionate in his work to build
a quality herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. He bred, showed and
sold purebred Angus cattle for over forty years, having many
local, state and nation champions.
Everett was a longtime
member of the Salem United Methodist Church and served his
church and his community in many ways. He was a member of
the Iowa Angus Association and the American Angus
Association, past director for the Farmer’s Cooperative and
past president of the Hubbard School Board. It was his honor
to be a sixty-five year member of the American Legion.
Those remaining to cherish
his memory are his beloved family, three children, Dr. Monte
Strathe of Hubbard, Jeanne and her husband, Dr. Cary
Christensen of Overland Park, Kansas and Sterling and his
wife, Pat Marinac of Iola, Wisconsin; six grandchildren,
Tyler Strathe and wife, Stephanie, Cody Strathe and wife,
Paige, Hillary Toot and husband, Austin, Josey Strathe,
Matthew Christensen and wife, Jennifer and Megan Clark and
husband, Paul; and two great-grandsons, Keegan Clark and
William Christensen.
Everett was preceded in
death by his parents; by Mildred, his wife of 54 years; and
by his sister, Evelyn Orgell.

Mary Nicolette "Niki'
Robinson, was born on October 1, 1951 at Mount Pleasant, the
daughter of William and Opal Dixie (Wrede) Robinson. She
attended the Mount Pleasant Community Grade School and
graduated from the Eldora Community Schools with the class
of 1970. She also attended Ellsworth Community College in
Iowa Falls. On November 26, 1971, she was united in marriage
to Neil W. Lindsey at Eldora. To this union two children
were born, Jami and Gabe. The couple later divorced. On
November 30, 1999, Niki was united in marriage to Dennis
Joseph Prochaska in Eldora. Niki was a pet groorner, owning
and operating Tails End Pet Grooming in Hubbard for over 20
years. She was a lifetime member of the American Paint Horse
Association. Niki was actively involved in tractor pulling,
off-road rock climbing, going to races, spending time with
her kids and grandkids and loved traveling in the RV with
Denny.
Niki
Prochaska is survived by her husband, Dennis Prochaska of
Iowa Falls; her children, Jami Larson of Radcliffe and Gabe
(Stacy) Lindsey of Kamas, Utah; her step-children, Joseph
(Lisa) Prochaska of Alden, Jean (Andrew) Ziesmer of St.
Charles, Illinois, Christopher Prochaska of Manawa,
Michigan, Matthew (Teri) Prochaska of Ames, Tyler (Angie)
Prochaska of Iowa Falls, Travis (Nicki) Prochaska of Iowa
Falls and Terrance Prochaska of Mason City; and 19
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Opal and William Robinson; and one sister,
Judith Weigert.

ELDORA—Elvira
Augusta Emma Engel, 91, of Eldora, passed away on Monday,
January 31, 2011, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday,
February 5, at the First Baptist Church in Eldora. Burial
will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. The Creps-Abels
Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Elvira was born on March
2, 1919 in rural Eldora, to Max and Eda Ziesman. She
graduated from the Eldora High School. Elvira was united in
marriage to Edwin Engel on September 6, 1939. They began
their life together in Hubbard. They then moved to the
Eldora area. She and Edwin moved into Eldora upon Edwin's
retirement.
Elvira was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Eldora and a former member of the
Salem Evangelical Church in Hubbard. She was a former member
of the Federated Club of Hubbard, a 4-H Club Leader and
chairman of the Farm Bureau Ladies of Pleasant Township.
She is survived by her
grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Boothby of Plano, Texas, Kyle
(Susan) Keller of Celina, Texas, Wade Keller of Lawrence,
Kansas and Ryan Keller of Kansas City, Missouri; six
great-grandchildren; and sister, Norma (Willard) Fairchild
of Waverly.
Elvira was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Edwin; daughter, Karen Jean
Keller; and son-in-law, Ronald James Keller.
