She

School.
She made
her home
on the
farm she
was
born,
helping
her
parents
with the
farming.
On
June 10,
1946,
she
married
Paul J.
Huinker
at St.
Aloysius
Catholic
Church
in
Calmar,
IA and
they
continued
farming
together
on her
home
farm. To
this
union,
two
children
were
born:
Marilyn
and
Roger.
Her
husband
Paul
passed
away on
January
24,
1997.
After
his
death
she
continued
to make
her home
on the
farm.
Georgina
was a
member
of Holy
Trinity
Church,
The
Rosary
Society,
the
Protivin
Senior
Citizens,
the
American
Legion
Auxiliary,
and the
Sunshine
Homemakers
Farm
Bureau
Club.
She was
also a
trustee
of the
Western
Fraternal
Life
Association
#85 of
Protivin,
IA.
While
still in
her own
home,
she
enjoyed
mowing
her
lawn,
playing
cards,
daily
phone
conversations
with her
cousin,
Bessie,
and the
companionship
of her
dog,
Susie.
She
always
enjoyed
spending
time
with her
children
and
grandchildren.
Since
July
2004,
Georgina
had made
her home
at the
Barthell
Eastern
Star
Home in
Decorah,
where
she
appreciated
the good
care and
visits
from
family
and
friends.
Survivors
include
one

American Legion Post #189 with Pastor
Milton D. Johnson officiating of the St.
John Lutheran Church in Stapleton, rural
Waucoma.
Music was provided by ColColleen and
Bob Busta singing a capella "Though The
Mountains May Fall" and "You Raise Me
Up". Also a special CD, "Amazed".
Interment was held in the Waucoma
Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Robert
Rinnels, Kyle Stika, Shane Barloon, Dan
Davis, Joe Davis, and Conrad Schmitt.

Brandon, 20, died Friday morning,
September 23, 2005 from injuries
sustained in an auto accident in Lawler.
Brandon Lee Kleve was born September
1, 1985, in Decorah, the son of Kerry
and Marjie (Phillips) Kleve. He received
his education at Turkey Valley and
graduated with the Class of 2004. While
in school he had been active in
football, baseball and basketball.
Through an On-the-Job Training program,
Brandon began working for Brincks
Construction at the age of 16. He
continued working there throughout high
school and began working with the
Brincks crew full time after graduation.
Brandon enjoyed slow-pitch softball,
foosball, his X-Box, hanging out with
his pals and his special friends Tristia
Woltzen and her son, Brian. He loved
fishing with his dad and brother, Bryan,
hanging with his older brother Kerry and
looking out for his younger sister,
Kinsli who he affectionately called
"Lola". All who knew him will miss his
fun-loving spirit and affectionate ways.
His family will celebrate his life
always.
Surviving are his parents Kerry and
Marjie Kleve of Waucoma; two brothers:
Kerry and Bryan Kleve, both of Waucoma;
one sister: Kinsli Kleve of Waucoma;
special friends: Tristia Woltzen and her
son Brian of West Union; paternal
grandparents: Gene and Margaret Kleve of
Waucoma; and maternal grandmother:
Margaret Phillips of Waucoma; and many
aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his
maternal grandfather: Junior "Mike"
Ellsworth Phillips.

Mary Beth Dethlefsen was the organist
with Jenny Baltes, vocalist singing,
"How Great Thou Art", "It is Not Death
To Die". "For Me to Live Is Jesus", was
joined by the congregation. Interment
was in Jerico Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Shaffer, Wayne Shaffer Gene Shaffer and
Neil Shaffer, and Vern Laures. Honorary
pallbearers were: Pearl Payton, Elaine
Trewin, Margaret Ann Schultz, Lillian

Orletta, 83, died Thursday morning,
October 6, 2005 at the New Hampton
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Orletta Elaine Ball was born June 5,
1922, on her grandparents farm north of
Jerico in rural Howard County, the
daughter of Ole J. and Mabel A. (Foss)
Anderson. She was baptized at the Jerico
Lutheran Church on June 25, 1922 and
confirmed there on June 6, 1937. Orletta
received her education in rural country
schools and was a 1941 graduate of the
New Hampton High School. She also
attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette,
University of Northern Iowa in Cedar
Falls, Luther College in Decorah, Drake
University in Des Moines, Iowa State
University in Ames and NITI in Calmar.
On July 2, 1943, she married Victor
C. Ball at the Jerico Lutheran Church.
Orletta taught in rural country schools
of Howard County and was an Adult
Educator for the High School Equivalency
Program for 18 years. Orletta was an
active member of Redeemer Lutheran
Church in New Hampton. She taught Sunday
school and Bible School for 17 years.
She also served on the Ladies Aide and
the Redeemer Bethany Auxiliary where she
had held the offices of secretary and
treasurer.
Orletta had been a supervisor and
outreach worker for the Northeast Iowa
Community Action Corp. of Decorah for
over 10 years and was the information
and referral person for the Hawkeye
Valley Area Agency on Aging of Waterloo
for 12 years. Orletta had been the
Chickasaw County Treasurer for the
Republican Women's club and was a
director for the Reassurance Program as
a Green Thumb worker. She was a current
member of the American Legion Auxiliary
where she had held the offices of Unit
President, President and County
President. She was a Board Member of the
Blackhawk County Department of Social
Services and the Senior Recreation Club.
Orletta was always active with the aged
and helped start the senior meal site
and was a meals-on-wheels volunteer as
well as countless hours spent helping at
the former and current Chickasaw Centre.
In 1991, Orletta received an award from
Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad for her
commitment to volunteering at the
Community College in Calmar.
She is survived by her two sons:
Victor (Diane) Ball Jr. and Reece (Kim)
Ball, all of New Hampton; three
daughters: Vicki (Roy) Blashaski of
Holmen, WI, Marva (Wayne) Auchstetter of
Nashua and Tamara (Ray) O'Brien of
Dubuque; 17 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren; one sister: Mavis
Shaffer of Lime Springs; two
brothers-in-law; Donald Pankow of
Decorah and Orville (Louise) Ball of New
Hampton; two sisters-in-law: Gertrude
(Don) Hedrick of Lompoc, CA and Rosella
Fausnaugh of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband on November 6,
1986; a son: Chad on January 10, 1971;
and a granddaughter: Heather Auchstetter
on September 7, 1988; one brother:
Orville "Merlin" Anderson; and two
sisters: Janice Shaffer and Mabel
Pankow.

Vernon, 87, died Sunday, October 9,
2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar
Rapids of complications of a broken hip.
Vernon Henry Beckmann was born on
March 29, 1918 in White Lake, SD the son
of Henry and Marie (Boedeker) Beckmann.
In 1942, Vernon married Mary Arnold
in Tipton, IA. He was a farmer.
He was a member of Red Oak
Presbyterian Church in Tipton. He was a
member of the Tipton V.F.W. Post 2537,
Past Director of Farm Bureau, and Past
Member of Red Oak Cemetery Board. He
served in the US Army during WWII.
Survivors include his wife Mary
Beckmann of Mechanicsville, IA; sons:
Ray Beckmann and wife Ronna of Cresco,
IA, Tom Beckmann and wife Ruth of
Mechanicsville, IA, and John Beckmann of
Mechanicsville, IA; grandchildren:
Brooke and Heather Beckmann, Dustin
Beckmann, Jeremy Beckmann, Jody and
Scott Hadrava, and Aimee and Chad Tyo;
great-grandchildren: Madison and Haley

"Children of the Heavenly Father", and
"Heaven is My Home". Janet and Jessica

John, 86, died Saturday, October 8,
2005 at Mercy Medical Center - North
Iowa in Mason City.
John Dorlan Costello was born October
5, 1919 in Douglas Township in Bremer
County, IA, the son of Francis Albert
and Lydia Ann Harker. He was baptized
into the Christian faith and later
confirmed at Jerico Lutheran Church by
Pastor Tweit. John attended rural school
near his family's home until his
father's death in March of 1934, when he
began farming with his mother on the
family farm in Richland Township.
On March 14, 1948, John was united in
marriage to Mary Maxine Carpenter at the
First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
Following their marriage the couple
farmed near Republic until December of
1951 when they purchased a farm in Paris
Township in Howard County. Along with
farming, John was a Pioneer Seed Dealer
for more than 20 years. The couple
remained on the farm until June 28,
1982, when they moved into New Hampton.
John continued farming with his son
James until age 80. In 1990, they began
wintering in Florida and purchased a
home in Dade City, FL in 1996 and
continued through this past winter.
John enjoyed traveling, fishing,
caring for his lawn, playing cards,
visiting, and spending time with his
family.
John became a member of the Jerico
Lutheran Church on March 8, 1963, and
had been an active member ever since,
serving as an elder, trustee, and a
synod delegate for more than 20 years.
At the church he was also active in the
Jerico-Saude Men's Club. He served
through the years as a Paris Township
Trustee, Farm Bureau Board Member, and
Election Board.
John is survived by his wife Mary
Maxine Costello of New Hampton; five
children: James D. Costello of Elma, IA,
John F. (Cynthia) Costello of Zimmerman,
MN, Roland (Mary) Natvig of Princeton,
MN, Gregory (Janet) Costello of North
Mankato, MN and Gene (Lisa) Costello of
Onalaska, WI; nine grandchildren Kari
(Andrew) Schmitz of St. Paul, MN,
Kirstin (Chris) Kasa of Andover, MN,
Nichole (Jess) Ellingson of Lawler, IA,
Jessica Costello of Zimmerman, MN, Peter

Bea, 86, died Tuesday, October 4,
2005 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical
Center, Marshalltown. Her death came
peacefully with her family by her side.
Bernice Kathyrn Czarske was born on
January 15, 1919 in Cresco, Iowa, the
daughter of Leo J. and Regina Josephine
(Barthelme) Meyer. She was raised and
educated in the area of her birth,
graduating from Cresco High School with
the class of 1938.
She married Raymond S. Czarske on
June 15, 1946 in Cresco, Iowa, and
worked as a legal secretary there as
well as Madison, WI.
Bea was a member of St. Henry's
Catholic Church and the Ave Maria Study
Club, and was always known for her
friendly smile. She was an avid Bobcat
Wrestling Fan, traveling to many of the
out of town meets, and was Five Star
Real Estate Group's brightest star.
Bea is survived by her daughter:
Karri (Phil) Henning of Marshalltown;
and her beloved feline grandkits.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; two sisters: Marcie and Joan;
and her special feline friend Morgi, one
month ago.

Norma, 79, died Friday, October 7,
2005 at the Evans Memorial Home in
Cresco.
Norma Louise Kluender was born on
April 3, 1926 the daughter of Herman and
Anna Schuknecht of rural Paullina, Iowa.
On September 9, 1944 she married Earl
Kluender and together they farmed near
Paullina and Hartley, Iowa for a number
of years. Due to a job transfer, they
moved to Cresco in 1960.
Throughout the years, Norma stayed at
home to raise their six children. Her
faith was very strong and the church was
a very important part of her life. She
was an active member of Immanuel
Lutheran Church for more than 45 years.
While still in her own home, she
enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and
other needlework. She enjoyed playing
cards with her circle of friends and
spending time with her children and
grandchildren.
Since November 2002, Norma had made
her home at the Evans Memorial Home in
Cresco, where she appreciated the good
care of the staff and visits from family
and friends.
She is survived by six children:
Duane (Debby) of Janesville, WI, Connie
(Rick) Rathert of Piedmont, SD, Janice
(Steven) Abele of Lake Mills, IA, LuAnn
(William) Heisinger of Whitewood, SD,
Lori (Kim) Bronner of Cresco, IA, and

George, 77, died Sunday, October 9,
2005 at the Regional Health Services of
Howard County.
George Herbert Milbrath was born on
May 21, 1928 in Winneshiek County, IA,
the youngest of six children to Herbert
and Mabel (Gunderson) Milbrath. George
was baptized at Orleans Church and
confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at First
Lutheran Church in Cresco. He attended
Cresco Public Schools.
George spent his early years farming
with his father and then went to work
for Hawkeye Tri County R.E.C. in 1948.
He was employed there 40 years until his
retirement in 1988.
On June 26, 1948, George and Jeanette
(Enger) were married at First Lutheran
Church in Decorah, IA. To this union
three daughters were born: Glenda,
Wanda, and Cynthia. They spent their
entire married life of 57 years in
Cresco.
He enjoyed many sporting and outdoor
activities, especially hunting, fishing,
snowmobiling, and softball. George was
an active supporter of Crestwood
Athletics and the state college
university athletics. He also enjoyed
and looked forward to seeing and
spending time with his children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren,
and their activities.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette
of Cresco, IA; daughters: Wanda (Jim)
Barkema of Muscatine, IA, and Cindy
(Eric) Gardner of Marion, IA, seven
grandchildren: Kendra (Matt) Tobin, Sam
Stockdale, C.J. Ben, Amanda Barkema,
Amanda (Lonnie) Carolan, Troy Gardner;
four great-grandchildren: Liam Tobin,
Clarissa and Hudson Carolan, and Sofia
Gardner; three sisters: Hazel Amundson
of Decorah, IA, Ethel Moen of Elkader,
IA, and Audrey (Melvin) Ott of Cresco,
IA, along with many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his
parents; one daughter: Glenda Stockdale
in April 1999; a sister: Geneva Vagts;
and a brother: Lester Milbrath.

Rose (Bouska) Billmyer was born on
June 9, 1920 the daughter of Edward and
Susan (Lusson) Bouska. She attended
rural school in Vernon Springs Township
and graduated from Cresco High School in
1937.
On June 26, 1943 she married Leo
Billmyer at Assumption Church. They
became the parents of one daughter, Kay
Billmyer Eckerman, and one son David
Billmyer.
She is survived by her two children:
Kay (Terry) Eckerman of Cresco, IA, and
Dave Billmyer of North Port, FL; three
grandchildren, six great- grandchildren;
two brothers: Thomas (Helen) Bouska of
Cresco, IA, and Francis (Doris) Bouska
of Ocala, FL; along with several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
husband Leo who passed away in 1991; a
sister Wilma Weinkauf who passed away in
1994; and by her parents.

Mary Dethlefsen was the organist and
accompanied those in attendance singing
"Beautiful Savior," "O, Happy Day When
We Shall Stand," and "Abide With Me,'"
The soloist was Heidi Bakke singing "How
Great Thou Art."
Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on
Monday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in
New Hampton and an hour prior to
services at the church. Interment was in
Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church
Cemetery in rural Lawler. Pall bearers
were: Nathan Holt, Paul Iwaszko, Donald
Knutson, Jeff Knutson, Larry Benz, and
Oakleigh Natvig.
Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New
Hampton handled the arrangements.
Theone, 90, died Friday, October 14,
2005 at her home after a brief illness.
Theone Johnson was born July 25, 1915
in Forestburg, South Dakota, the
daughter of Robert and Lena (Johnson)
Fouberg. She attended local schools
where she was active in the choir and
valediction of her graduating class.
She was united in marriage to Alvin
(Mel) Johnson on February 15, 1934 in
the parsonage at Saude. She and Mel
farmed in the Saude area all their
lives. She was a very active member of
the Saude Lutheran Church for over 50
years.
She had a life long love of learning.
Christian education was very important
to her and she was founding member of
the Saude Christian Day school and an
active member of Bethany Auxiliary
throughout her life. She remained deeply
interested in her family and the world
around her until her final hours. She
was an avid gardener, exceptional cook
and a gifted communicator. She will be
remembered for her deep love and
commitment to her husband, her family
and her friends. Family and friends were
remembered with letters on their
birthday, at Christmas and all times in
between when a word of congratulations,
encouragement or sympathy was needed.
The Fourth of July always meant family
and softball at Saude Park, Christmas
always meant a mass family gathering at
the farm house. She will be sorely
missed.
She is survived by seven children:

Gretchen Jurs, Christopher Johnson,
Jennifer McCabe, Eric, Heather, Shawn,
Heidi, Alyssa and Kyle Bakke, Andrew,
Joshua, Mark and Brandon Benzer, Eli and
Thad Johnson; 23 great grandchildren:
Matthew, Angela, Rachel, Derek, Abby,
Justin and Hannah Holt, Kristy, Laurie
and Nicole Hottinger, Shannon and Emily
Conrad, Kristy Calloway, Jacob Pavlovec,
and Laurel Jurs-Ellsworth, Justin and
Tyler Bancroft, Erik and Hallie Johnson,
Elizabeth and Katherine McCabe, Issac
Bakke and Sydney Benzer; two great-great
grandchildren: Devin Adams and Bennett
Combs; two brothers: Russell (Vera)
Fouberg of Letcher, SD and Maynerd
Fouberg of Huron, SD; son-in-law Jim
Reyerson and his family Casey Gustafson
and their children Katie and Charlie.
Theone was preceded in death by her
husband Mel Johnson; her parents; one
daughter: Nancy Reyerson; one son- in-
law: Stanley Holt; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild; and two
brothers: Harold and Omer.

Irma, 71, died Tuesday, October 11,
2005 at St. Mary's Hospital after a long
illness.
Irma Theresa Meyer was born October
21, 1933 in Protivin, Iowa the daughter
of Alois and Lucy (Koudelka) Pecinovsky.
On August 4, 1956, Irma married
Jerome Meyer at St. John's Catholic
Church in Rochester.
She was active in the St. Vincent CCW
in West Concord, and did quilting for
the church and on her own. She loved to
dance, patch clothing, fish and bake.
Irma is survived by husband Jerry of
West Concord, MN, sons: Tim and Jacque
Meyer of Cannon Falls, MN, Tom Meyer of
Zumbrota, MN, Keith Meyer of Kenyon, MN,
Joseph Meyer of Dennison, MN, and Randy
Meyer of West Concord, MN; eight
grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; sisters: Sylvia
Pecinovsky of Cedar Rapids, MN, and
Mildred Peterson of Stewartville, MN;
one aunt Arlene; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her son: Clifford; and her
brother: Robert.

Beverly Daly graduated from the

Teachers College) in 1956 with a degree
in Elementary Education. She taught
fourth and fifth grade in the Cresco,
Iowa public school system.
She is survived by her husband, John

Maxine, 77, died Sunday, October 16,
2005 at her home.
Maxine Florence Peter was born July
29, 1928 the daughter of Ernest and
Fannie (Stockdale) Tibbals in Lime
Springs, IA. She was employed at the
Kahler Hotel, as a playground attendant
at Ridgeway, Iowa schools, the Rainbow
Caf/ in Pine Island and the SE Minnesota
Resource Center in St. Charles.
In 1950 Maxine married Fred "Mike"
Peter, Jr, in Cresco, IA. They farmed
and later owned and operated Mike's
Superette in Ridgeway, IA. Maxine was an
active member of St. Matthew Lutheran
Church in St. Charles. She was also
active in Toy's for Tot's, St. Charles
food shelf, St. Charles Gladiola Days.
She worked for the Country Store at the
Winona County Fair and for the St.
Matthew annual chicken supper and as a
regular volunteer at the Whitewater
Healthcare Center in St. Charles.
Maxine enjoyed spending time in the
country, bonfire gatherings, croquet,
knitting, sewing, crocheting,
gardening/canning, spending time with
family and friends and an occasional
trip to Treasure Island Resort and
Casino. Her husband Mike died in 1974.
She is survived by four daughters:
Sharon (Kevin) Teeters of Chili, WI,
Shirley (Stoney) Burt of Pine Island,
MN, Sherry Deetz of Lewiston, MN and
Donna (Tom) Ulwelling of Fountain, MN;
one son: Dennis (Tina) Peter of Cresco;
13 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; four sisters:
Darleen (Wilbur) Boehmer of Paducah, KY,
Georgia (Arlin) Hebrink of Bristol
Center, MN, Iva (Gary) Zirbel of
Rochester, MN and Marie (Jerry) Krueger
of Chester, IA; two brothers: Alton
