Ethel Huber

Memorial services for Ethel (Butz) Huber were held Thursday, August 26, 1999 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. The Rev. Dennis Cahill officiated.

Ethel, 71, died at her home at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City on Wednesday, August 18.

She was born on June 29, 1928 in Ridgeway to Frank and Marie Butz. She married Parnell Huber July 9, 1946.

Survivors include her four children: Lynn Huber of Rockwell, Lynda Olson of Coralville, Beverly Huber of Mason City and David Huber of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Earl of Sun City AZ and her brother, Marion of Des Moines and her sister, Alice Pierce of Cresco.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Parnell; her parents; and two brothers, Lawrence and Russell.


Ann McGee

Ann McGee, 51 died after bravely fighting cancer for more than four years. Ann was an inspiration to all who met her especially to other cancer survivors and support givers; Ann was a catalyst in bringing a new cancer treatment to the Twin Cities.

Ann earned a BA Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and Law Degree from Hamlin University School of Law in 1977. Ann practiced law in the Twin Cities until her medical retirement in 1997.

Her mother and father, Ruth and Eldon “Mac” McGee of Minneapolis, preceded Ann in death. She is survived by her “better-than-a-husband” Richard “Rick” Hendrickson, Minneapolis, her “better-than-a-sister” Dede Doi, Rochester, brother and sister-in-law James and Nina McGee, Wilmington, NC, nieces and nephews Tom McGee Wilminton, NC, Lisa McGee, Denver, CO, Dan McGee, Des Moines, IA, Stephanie McGee Sandstead, Naperville, IL and Tammy McGee Benson, Titusville, FL, and aunts Gladys McGee, Minneapolis, Edith McGee Finnegan, Monterey, CA, Irene Harold McGee, Manchester, IA and Elizabeth “Bethe” McGee Schreiner, Lakeville, MN, and many special cousins and friends.

A reception to honor Ann’s life was held on Monday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4343 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, for all her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family very much requests memorials be sent to the Abbott Northwestern/Virginia Piper Cancer Institute or The Minneapolis Food Shelf.


Mayme Houdek

Funeral services for Mayme Houdek of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 1999 at the Assumption Worship Center. Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Kathy Houdek, Joe Houdek, Mary Butikofer, Robert Houdek, Linda Anderson, Sharon Svoboda, Elaine Stika, Carol Houdek, Jim Houdek, Wayne Houdek and Darrel Houdek.

Mayme, 86, died Thursday, August 26, at the Cresco Care Center where she has made her home since December of 1997.

Mayme was born May 23, 1913, near Little Turkey, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Alois and Lena (Pechota) Shileny. She attended the rural school.

On August 11, 1931, she was united in marriage to Carl Houdek in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Protivin. They moved onto a farm near Ridgeway, then to a farm near Protivin, In 1937 they moved to their farm near Cresco. Following their retirement in 1971, they moved into Cresco

She was an active person involving herself with sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and fishing.

Survivors include two children: Lyle of New Lisbon, WI and Don of Cresco; eleven grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild; one brother: Richard Shileny of Marshalltown; and one sister: Agnes Falada of Decorah.

Mayme was preceded in death by her husband Carl on May 19, 1988; one grandson: Lyle R. Houdek and her parents.
