Norbert W. Boehmer, 70, of Charles City, died Saturday,
Sept. 2, 2006, at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in
Charles City.
Memorial services for Norbert Boehmer will be held at 10:30
a.m. on Friday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles
City.
Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. on
Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday an hour prior to
the service at the church.
Norbert Walter Boehmer was born April 30, 1936, the son
of Cletus and Thelma (OâDonnell) Boehmer at Elma. He
attended school at Alta Vista. On Nov. 25, 1962, he was
united in marriage to Barbara Boyd at the Little Brown
Church at Nashua. During his working career, he was employed
at Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines, as an appliance repair
man in Salem, Ore., at Rowan Bay Logging Company in Alaska
and as a maintenance supervisor in a nursing home in
Centrailia, Wash. He was a member of St. John Evangelical
Lutheran Church and was a past member of the Moose Lodge.
Norbert’s interests included reading westerns, watching
baseball, working with his hands, traveling, the beach and
mountains, and — most of all — spending time with his
family.
Living family members include two children, Brent Boehmer
and Kenda (Benjamin) Shuman, both of Charles City; four
sisters, Yvonne “Pat” (William) Smith of Des Moines, Marilyn
Good of Council Bluffs, Monita (Russell) Engstler of Garner
and Margorie (Clifford) Kolthoff of Cedar Falls; two
brothers, Daniel (Janet) Boehmer of Janesville, Minn. and
David (Joyce) Boehmer of Charles City; and 25 nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara;
one brother, Cletus “Tony” Boehmer; and a brother in-law,
Dean Good.

Clarksville, Iowa, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at the
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa,
of natural causes.
Funeral Services will be held today, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m.
at the Immanuel United Church of Christ. Military rites will
be provided by the Clarksville AMVETS Post # 30. Inurnment
will be held at a latter date at the Lynwood Cemetery in
Clarksville.

Claire Earl Kepple died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at the Liebe
Care Center in Greene.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Virginia A. “Ginny” King, 71, of
Grand Rapids and formerly of Charles City, died on Friday,
Aug. 11, 2006. A private family graveside service was held
at Oakhill Cemetery.
She was the daughter of Paul and Violettte Bishop and a
graduate of Charles City High School.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of
Kent County or the American Cancer Society.

David Lee Troyanek, 56, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Friday,
Sept. 1, 2006, at the VA Medical Center, in Cheyenne.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. at
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Mormon Coulee Rd., La
Crosse, Wis. Rev. Roger Hjelle and Rev. Heather Lampert will
officiate. Graveside services and burial with military
honors will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery,
Charles City.
Friends may call at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon
Coulee Rd., La Crosse, on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at the
church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
He was born Dec. 21, 1949, in La Crosse to Herman "Butch"
and Jean (Podawitz) Troyanek. David retired after 20 years
in the United States Air Force, having served during Vietnam
amd achieving the rank of captain. He had a double Masters'
Degree in business administration and quantitative analysis.
He was the communications and media specialist for Wyoming
Travel and Tourism, Wyoming Business Council. David attended
North Christian Church and was a member of the Kiwanis,
National Board of Realtors, Wyoming Association of Realtors
and Cheyenne Board of Realtors. He was a past member of the
Promise Keepers and Mensa. David was active in Cheyenne
Frontier Days and on the Restoration Board at F.E. Warren
Air Force Base. He loved hunting, fishing, cooking and
spending time with his family and numerous friends. David
knew no strangers. He was especially devoted to his wife
Bea.
Survivors include his wife Bea Troyanek of Cheyenne, whom he
married on Dec. 21, 1996, at the F.E. Warren Chapel; a son,
Matthew Troyanek of Laramie, Wy.; a daughter, Elizabeth
(Morgan) Osantowski of Sandy, Utah; a step-son, Rodney
(Erin) Stalker, II of Milliken, Colo.; two step-daughters,
Krista (Dominic) Wright of Houston and Regina (Michael)
Bonnette of New Castle, Colo.; David's parents, Herman
"Butch" and Jean Troyanek of La Crosse; son-in-law, Steve
Rud of Caledonia, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Emmaline
Osantowski (who was very special to David), Tatum Bonnette,
Landon Bonnette, Christian Smyth, Avaree Stalker, Caleb
Wright and Amelia Wright; two brothers, Gary (Connie)
Troyanek of La Crosse and Jeff (Cindy) Troyanek of
Burlington, Wis.; two sisters, Geri (Bill) Stangl and Nancy
(Jeff) Corwin, all of Eau Claire, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Jo
Troyanek of La Crosse; two special friends, Jessica Williams
of Carr, Colo., and Jonathan Cox of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and

Howard Eugene Martin McLeese was born March 5, 1969, the
son of Howard Martin, Sr. and Sally Jo Sholl in Tucson,
Ariz. He attended Charles City High School. His interests
included driving his truck, collecting Caterpillar cards and
collectables, going to see the big machinery in action, and
especially spending time with his cat Kim.
Living family members include his mother, Sally Jo McLeese
of Charles City; his biological father, Howard (Betty)
Martin of Peoria, Ill.; two uncles, Terry (Ida) McLeese of
Knoxville, Ill., and Jimbo McLeese of Galesburg, Ill.; two
aunts, Connie McLeese and Betty “Tootsie” McLeese, both of
Galesburg; and several other aunts and uncles, including Rae
Sue (Gary) Kloster of Charles City and Tom Mahnesmith of
Nashua; cousins; and a very special friend, Linda Molested
of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father,
Richard McLeese; and two brothers in infancy.

Harold John Miller

RUDD — Harold John Miller, 83, of Rudd, died Monday,
Sept. 4, 2006, at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8,
at Rudd United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Turner
officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens
in Charles City. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on
Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114
North Hawkeye, Nora Springs. Visitation will also be held
one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.
Harold John Miller was born on March 12, 1923, in Bristow,
the son of John and Olive (Piper) Miller. He graduated from
Rudd High School in the Class of 1941, and also graduated
from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. In 1944,
Harold drove trucks for various trucking companies until
1948, when he began driving trucks for Bob Jenkins Truckline
in Moline, Ill., until 1961. He then became the manager for
20 years for Diamond Transportation Company in Charles City
until 1981, when he became a route drive for Guardian Photo
Company in Mason City until his retirement in 1988.
While his future wife Edna was working for Jenkins
Truckline, her son, John, introduced her to Harold. On
Dec.14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Edna Pearl Hines
in Lamont. She preceded him in death Jan. 12, 2005.
Harold enjoyed wood working and gardening, and was a
caregiver for his wife for many years. Harold loved being
with his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of Rudd United Methodist Church and taught
Sunday school, Rudd Lions Club and was a 4-H leader for
eight years.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children: John
(Ann) O’Donnell of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Maureen (Curtis)
Schroeder of Guttenberg and Mary (Kent) Ullmann of Titonka.
Also left to cherish his memory are 11 grandchildren:
Candace Taylor, Kathy Ann O’Donnell, Matthew (Tammy)
O’Donnell and Michael O’Donnell, all of Murfreesboro;
Jessica (Kevin) Wallace of Dubuque; Joshua (Barbie) Steere
of New Hartford; Jonathan Claycamp of Dubuque; Allison,
Thomas, Emily and Chad Ullmann of Titonka. Harold is also
survived by six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Adam
Davenport, Danielle and Courtney O’Donnell, Tyler Wallace
and Brady Steere; several nieces and nephews; a sister,
Edith Shepard of Bella Vista, Ark.; one brother, Merle
(Dorothy) Miller of Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Clair
Reiling of Independence; two sisters-in-law, Laura Rieverts
of Hillsdale, Ill., and Pat Hines of Aurora, Colo.; as well
as other relatives and many friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olive
(Piper) Miller; wife Edna; and a sister, Anna Miller.
The family of Harold John Miller has requested that memorial
contributions be made to Rudd Lions Club, in his memory.

NASHUA — Paul Laverne Wait, 87, of Elkhart, Ind. and
formerly of Nashua passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept.
2, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at
Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Interment will
be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. Visitation will be from
4-7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday
at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home.
Paul Laverne Wait was born May 19, 1919, in Chickasaw
County, the son of Osgood and Maude (Haviland) Wait. He was
united in marriage to Myrtle M. Hauser in 1941 in Kahoka,
Mo. To this union, four children were born.
Paul was a press operator at Adlake, Inc. of Elkhart
until the mid-1970s, from where he retired after nearly 30
years of service.
Paul was an avid outdoorsman and never passed up a chance to
take his grandchildren fishing or mushroom hunting. He was
also an accomplished dancer and especially enjoyed going out
to dance on his birthday. He also enjoyed ice skating, word
search puzzles, country music, old westerns, the “Little
House On The Prairie” TV series, Louis L. Amour books, being
the family jokester and feeding the birds and squirrels in
his backyard. Paul was also a past member of the Elkhart
Moose Lodge #599.
Paul is survived by his wife Myrtle; two daughters, Nona J.
(Rick) Hollar of Bristol, Ind., and Joyce A. (James) Miller
of Elkhart, Ind.; one son, Dennis E. (Linda) Wait of
Middlebury, Ind.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald P. Wait; four
brothers, Dale, Howard, Mark and Irving Wait; and two
sisters, Martha Hurlbut and Madeline Miller.

Willard H. Trappe, 90, of 2371 Windfall Ave., Charles
City, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Nora Springs Care
Center, Nora Springs.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept.
11, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE,
Mason City, with Pastor Paul Nelson of St. James Lutheran
Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph
Cemetery, Mason City.
Willard H. Trappe was born on May 23, 1916, in Monona, son
of Victor and Ella (Kurth) Trappe. Willard attended a
country school east of Monona and helped on the family farm.
He moved to Mason City to farm near Mason City and Burchinal.
Willard also worked for Al & Dick’s Crane and Wrecker
Services, Mason City, from where he retired as a crane
operator.
Willard was united in marriage to Lucille Venz on May 23,
1989, in Mason City.
He enjoyed fishing, farming, tending his apple orchard and
garden, dancing and listening to polka music and playing
500. He was most proud of his 1948 International truck,
which he restored. Willard was a member of the Mason City
Moose Lodge.
Willard is survived by his four children, Shirley Peterson
of Shawano, Wis., Richard (Carolyn) Trappe of Mason City,
Cheryl Renel of Bonduel, Wis., and William (Linda) Trappe of
Bonduel, Wis.;12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Elmer (Mary) Trappe of Manly; Emmet Trappe
and special friend Vineta Shaw of Monona; Herb (Donna)
Trappe of Monona and Robert (Sharon) Trappe of Monona;
special family friend Dolly Theilen of Mason City; and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Harlan
“Dean” Trappe; grandson Stacy Trappe; two brothers, Gaylord
and Harold Trappe; and wife Lucille.

Virga Mae Demro

NEVADA, Mo. — Virga Mae Demro, 81, of Gardner, Kan., and
formerly of Moundville, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Sept.
7, 2006, at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital in Gardner.
Virga was born at home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1925, to
Paul F. Scholl and Vona Elizabeth Sargeant Scholl in
Republic, Iowa. She married Lloyd McKenzie in February of
1945. Later, she and Don Demro were married on March 25,
1967, in Plainfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May
4, 1985.
Virga and Don left Iowa in 1970 and made their home in
Moundville. She was a member of the Deerfield Baptist
Church. Since 1998, Virga lived with her daughter in
Shawnee, Kan.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda McKenzie of
Shawnee; one grandson, Brad McKenzie of Charles City, Iowa;
two granddaughters, Liz Landis of Gardner and Brenda Bartz
of Vinton, Iowa; three great-grandsons, Michael McKenzie,
Tyler Bartz and Justin Bartz; three great-granddaughters,
Kaitlin Landis, Abby Bartz and Mariah McKenzie; one brother,
Bud Scholl and his wife Celine of New Hampton, Iowa; and one
great-aunt, Vada Sargeant of Ionia, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Don, she was preceded in death
by her parents and one son, Gary, in October 1988 in Charles
City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept.
11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with John Nichols
officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery in
Ft. Scott, Kan. Friends may call until the hour of service.

The family of Marie-Elliott Haase wishes to note the

Marie was past president of the following organizations:
local chapter of the American Association of University
Women, Charles City Community Education Association, Charles
City Women's Club, local chapter of United Way, Women's
Circle of St. John's Lutheran Church, local chapter of the
American Legion Auxiliary, local chapter of the Alpha,
Delta, Kappa Educational Sorority and the Charles City
Improvement Association. She was past chief of the Order of
Pythian Sisters and served for many years on the board of
the Starr Home. In 1960, she was chosen Woman of the Year by
the Charles City Women's Club.
In addition to those mentioned in the Aug. 28th obituary,
she is survived by the family of her late husband John Haase,
including his son John Haase, son-in-law Ed Exline and
grandsons Mike and Steve Exline and their families.
The family of Marie Haase expresses deep gratitude to the

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Stella B. Tgiros, born Jan. 14, 1912,
in St. Paul, Min., passed away on Sept. 1, 2006, in Casa de
Oro Care Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Tgiros; one
brother; four sisters; four nephews;; and two nieces. She is
survived by her son, Command Sgt. Major (Ret.) Neale T.
Praska and wife of El Paso, Texas; two granddaughters; three
great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She
was for 46 years in the restaurant business in Charles City
and spent four and a half years with the handicapped at
Crest View, also in Charles City. She and her husband
retired to Truth or Consequences, N.M., in 1982.
Internment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, at a
later date.

Evelyn M. Sturdivant, 91, of Charles City, died Monday,
Sept. 11, 2006, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1915, in Mitchell County to parents
Thomas and Juanita Hughes, Sr,. and graduated from Colwell
High School in 1933. Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul
E. Sturdivant at the Little Brown Church during a 1936
blizzard. They farmed for more than 35 years in the Colwell
area, raising chickens, pigs, sheep, milk cows and even
chinchillas. Evelyn also worked as a cook for Charles City
schools in the late ‘60s and ‘70s. In 1977, Evelyn and Paul
moved to Charles City.
Evelyn was an active member of Colwell United Church of
Christ and its women’s fellowship; she also belonged to the
Floyd County Historical Society and Friends of the Library.
She enjoyed flowers, was a voracious reader and was an avid
Cubs baseball fan.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Beth Shahan and Anne
(Gary) Sturdivant; brother Robert (Wilma) Hughes; sister
Bernita Chestek of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law Unis Hughes;
brothers-in-law Laverne Byers, Donald (Tracy) Sturdivant of
Rockaway Beach, Mo., and Bud Lomison; granddaughters Leah
(Dave) Diercks, Jeanette, Rachel and Sarah Shahan; two great
grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul; brother
Thomas Hughes, Jr.; sister Geneva Byers; sisters-in-law
Helen Chestek and Maxine Lomison; and son-in-law Tom Shahan.
A celebration of life will be held at Hauser Funeral Home at
10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, with visitation from 5-8
p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow the service on
Thursday at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

at Charles City. Helen was a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and
past Cub Scout Den Mother. Her interests included
embroidery, sewing, camping and fishing.
Living family members include her husband of 64 years
Lawrence of Charles City; two sons, David (Louise) Peters of
Harvard, Ill., Jon (Petra) Peters of South Elgin, Ill.;
seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother
Bob Dostart of Portland, Ore.; and a sister Marlys Howe of
Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and
four brothers.

Naomi Ruth Kegley Auchstetter was born May 3, 1922, the

she was united in marriage to Joseph Auchstetter at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. Naomi was a member of St.
John Evangelical Lutheran Church and WELCA. Her interests
included sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, canning,
playing cards (especially 500) and, most of all, spending
time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Living family members include three sons, Wayne (Marva)
Auchstetter and David (Barbara) Auchstetter, both of Nashua,
and Douglas (Pam) Auchstetter of Rockford; a daughter Karen
(Steve) Nixt of Granger; eight grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son
Michael; two grandchildren, Heather Auchstetter and Nicole
Walker; two sisters; and one brother.

WAVERLY — Martha E. Stille, 93, of Waverly and formerly
of rural Nashua, died on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at
Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.
Martha was born on March 28, 1913, in Butler County, the
daughter of Albert and Anna (Kehret) Stille. She was a
lifetime farmer, working on the family farm until she became
a resident of the Chautauqua Home in Charles City. She
recently was a resident at Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly.
She is survived by her brother, Herman Stille of rural
Nashua. She was preceded in death by her parents, one
sister, Florence Stille and a brother, Louis Stille.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at
10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Chapel at Bartels Lutheran
Retirement Community. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, rural Nashua. Visitation will be held on Tuesday
from 5-7 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly.

morning, Sept. 14, 2006, at the Waverly Health Center in
Waverly.

Schiltz officiating. Nelda Shepard will be the organist and

Wayne is survived by his wife, Leatrice “Lea” Einck; one
brother, Donald (Margaret) Einck of Denver; five sisters,
Oril Schmitt, Ardis Wiltse and Helen Einck, all of Charles
City; Ila Mihm of New Hampton and Dorothy Carr of Des
Moines.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie in
1978; his parents; and a sister, Vera Schmitt.
Wayne Anthony Einck was born May 18, 1928, in Charles
City, the son of Anthony and Elizabeth Catherine (Doerr)
Einck. He moved to the New Hampton area with his family and
attended area country schools.
He enlisted in the U.S.Army on Feb. 6, 1952, and was
Honorably Discharged from active duty as a corporal in Co. C
of the 12th Infantry on Jan. 21, 1954. He worked for Retbar
Manufacturing Company in Surprise, Ariz., for more than 30
years. In 1976, he was joined in marriage to Marjorie
Renfroe; she died in 1978. Wayne was then united in marriage
to Leatrice Smith Peters on March 26, 1980, at Nashua United
Methodist Church. They made their home in Youngtown, Ariz.
Following Wayne’s retirement, they built their new home in
Nashua and moved back in 1992.
Wayne was a member of the Nashua Methodist Church. He
enjoyed gardening and working on puzzles. His first love was
to tinker; he loved to take broken things apart and repair
them to working order. He was especially good with fixing
clocks. Wayne was also an accomplished carpenter. Family was
very important to him and he touched many lives with his
caring way.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The memorial service for Connie S.
Burzette, 62, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, in
Church of the Nazerene in Rochester, Minn., with Rev. Pat
Thomas officiating.
Connie died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at her home of an
apparent heart attack. Friends may call one hour prior to
the service at the church.
Connie Sue Thompson was born June 8, 1944, to Orrie and
Geraldine Thompson in Greene. As a child, she moved with her
family to Elma, grew up and attended school there and
graduated from Cresco High School in 1962. She then attended
LaJames School of Cosmetology in Mason City.
She was married on Nov. 27, 1964, in Elma to Donald D.
Burzette. After their marriage, the couple lived in Iowa,
and in 1970, they opened Little Butch’s Restaurant in
Plymouth and Elma. In 1982, they moved to Minnesota and
operated restaurants in Rochester, Grand Meadow, Minn., and
the High Forest Truck Stop outside of Stewartville, Minn.
Connie was then employed at Hiawatha Homes in Rochester and
for several years at Southern Hills Manufactured Home Park
in Stewartville, ending as office manager in Februrary of
this year. Mr. Burzette died on Oct. 24, 2002. In May of
this year, Connie moved to Valley High Apartments in
Rochester, also working as property manager. She enjoyed
shopping, craftwork, going to dinner and especially enjoyed
time spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Tina Burzette and Heather
(Scott) Nelson, both of Stewartville, Minn., and Darci (Vun)
Burzette of Rochester; a son, Darin (Michelle) Burzette of
Stewartville; four grandchildren, Brady, Trenedy, Lucas and
Te’a Sue; four sisters, Kay (Jack) Hayden of Elma, Kathy
(Dave) Tempus of Nora Springs, Corinne (Ty) Vick of Cedar
Rapids and Mary Williams of Rochester. She was preceded in
death by her parents and husband.

LITTLETON, Colo. — Margaret (Margie) Hill Larsh Nelson,
91, a former resident of Charles City, Iowa, and Davenport,
Iowa, died on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at her residence in
Littleton, Colo.
A celebration of her life will be held Sept. 30, at Horan
McConaty in Colorado. Interment will be at a later date in
Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Margaret Nelson was born July 21, 1915, in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was the daughter of Steven and Helen Hill. She graduated
from Roosevelt High School and Drake University in Des
Moines. She married Wilfred Davis Larsh on Sept. 19, 1936.
During Margie’s career, she worked at Van Reese Music,
Charles City College, Charles City High School and White
Farm Equipment. She married John Herman Nelson on March 16,
1974, in Charles City.
Margie was a former member of First Congregational
Church, PEO (JQ Chapter), PEO (FJ Chapter), The National
Society of Colonial Dames, Iowa Society of Mayflower
Descendants, Kappa Kappa Gamma and The American Cancer
Society. She dearly loved cards and her friends.
Margie moved to Davenport in July 1982 to join her sisters
Lois and Doris. She resided there until 2001, when she moved
to Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Wilfred
and Herman; sisters Helen Alven, Lois Leach and Loris
Mueller; and a brother, Steve Hill. She is survived by sons
James (Barbara) Hill Larsh and George Davis (Shirley) Larsh;
and a daughter Helen Larsh (Jay) Giesen; six grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Hill.

They farmed all of their lives
southwest of Charles City.
Lucille was a member of West
Saint Charles United Methodist
Church, where she had served as
president of the United
Methodist Women. She was also a
member of the Friendly Birthday
Club, Farm Bureau and had served
on the election board. Lucille’s
interests included gardening,
sewing and fishing. Family was
always important to her and she
looked forward to spending time
with them.

CEDAR FALLS — James Doland
Henry, 76, a resident of Cedar
Falls Health Care Center in
Cedar Falls for the past 10
years, died late Tuesday
afternoon, Sept. 26, 2006, at
Cedar Falls Health Care Center.
In honoring Mr. Henry’s request,
no formal services have been
planned at this time. Cremation
has taken place with Cremation
Services of North Iowa in Mason
City. Inurnment will be held at
a later date in Greenwood
Memorial Cemetery in Renton,
Wash.

Gertrude Philipp, 93, of
Charles City, died Tuesday,
Sept. 26, 2006, at Salsbury
Baptist Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Gertrude
Philipp will be held at 1:30
p.m. on Friday at First
Christian Church. Pastor Sharon
Sours of Broadcasters for Jesus
will officiate. Burial will be
in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.
Friends may call at Hauser
Funeral Home in Charles City
from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday.
Visitation will continue at the
church an hour prior to the
service.
Gertrude Lampman Dykeman
Philipp was born Oct. 28, 1912,
at Rosemont, Neb., the daughter
of Dedrick and Jannette (Buntjer)
Lampman. She graduated from Blue
Hill High School in Blue Hill,
Neb. On Sept. 4, 1937, she was
united in marriage to Virgil
Dykeman. Virgil died in 1940.
Gertrude then married Oliver
Philipp on May 26, 1956. Oliver
died on Aug. 22, 1967.
Gertrude was employed at J.C.
Penney for more than 27 years,
retiring in 1978.
She was a member of First
Christian Church, the Friendship
Circle, Charles City Women’s
Club and Jolly Dozen Canasta
Club. Her interests included
needlework and traveling.
Gertrude always enjoyed spending
time with her family and took
special interest in her
granddaughter Deborah.
Living family members include
a son Marvin (Beverly) Dykeman
of Stilwell, Kan.; a
granddaughter, Deborah (William)
Noel of Stilwell; two brothers,
Randall Lampman of Charles City
and Loran Lampman of Seattle,
Wash.; and a sister, Lena Ahrens
of Osage.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husbands; and a son,
Stanley Dykeman, who died on
Oct. 11, 1969.

St., Charles City, IA 50616.

2006, in a motor vehicle
accident near his home on 150th
Street.

Leon G. Chroup, 86, a
resident of Riverside Senior
Living, 209 Park Dr., Suite #19
in Charles City, passed away
early Wednesday morning, Sept.
27, 2006, at his residence with
family at his side.
Graveside services will be held
at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept.
30, at Riverside Cemetery in
Charles City with Pastor Dennis
Niezwaag officiating. Interment
will be in Riverside Cemetery in
Charles City, with military
rites accorded by the Charles
City Ceremonial Unit.

Leon George Chroup was born on
Jan. 28, 1920, at Morton, Minn.,
the son of George and Grace (Piersol)
Chroup. He attended school at
Delhi, Minn., and graduated in
1937. Following graduation he
worked at Schmidt Plumbing and
Heating in Charles City. Leon
married Adeline “Addie” Venz of
Charles City on Oct. 20, 1940,
in Fountain, Minn.
In 1943, he joined the Navy
(78th Sea Bees Battalion). Leon
was honorably discharged, having
served during World War II. He
was stationed in New Guinea, the
Admiralty Islands and Okinawa.
After returning to the states,
he continued working in sanitary
engineering and became a master
plumber, and was later employed
with Mills-Helmers in Charles
City — from which he retired in
1996. Leon had lived in Charles
City for 59 years. Some of his
greatest joys were to go fishing
with his son-in-law Richard and
his grandson Brian, and tending
to his garden.
Leon was a member of St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church. He
served on various church boards,
was past president of the church
council and a former usher in
the church. His community
involvement included being a
past Boy Scout leader, Sunday
school teacher, past member of
the Knights of Pythias, V.F.W.,
Elks and Moose lodge and current
member of the Heritage Club, all
of Charles City.
Survivors include, his wife
Adeline of Charles City;
daughter Gloria Eagan and
son-in-law Richard Eagan of
Woodridge, Ill.; one grandson,
Brian Eagan, together with
granddaughter-in-law Ann
Dvoretsky and
great-granddaughters Sophie and
Holly, all of Oak Park, Ill.
Leon was preceded in death by
his parents; his son Larry Leon
Chroup who died tragically in
1956l; and his father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Albert and Ida
Venz.
