Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City

Rex Wade Zimmerman

BRISTOW — Memorial Services for Rex Wade Zimmerman, 46, of 16653 150th St., Bristow, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

Private Inurnment services will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Monday, Oct. 2, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene.

Rex Wade Zimmerman died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, in a motor vehicle accident near his home on 150th Street.

Leona E. Arndt, 94, of Charles City, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Leona Arndt will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be held in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. on Monday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Leona Evelyn Roethler Arndt was born March 22, 1912, the daughter of William Thomas and Pauline (Blaska) Roethler at Chickasaw County. She attended school in Chickasaw County. On Jan. 8, 1930, she was united in marriage to Otto Arndt at Alta Vista. Leona retired from White Farm/ Oliver after working there for 23 years. She was a member of the Union, Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Moose Lodge. Her interests included fishing, cooking, dancing, flower gardening and spending time with her family. Leona will always be remembered as one dear sweet lady.

Living family members include two children, Sandra (Darwin) Pepper of Burlington, and Gerald (Jean) Arndt of Osage; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Yearling, and Marian Elefsrud both of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and five sisters.

David Rosonke

David Rosonke, 57, formerly of Elma Iowa, died Monday Sept. 25 at home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a brief battle with cancer.

Services will be held at a later date in Phoenix.

He was born June 22, 1949, in Elma Iowa, son of Henry and Bernetta (Weber) Rosonke. David served in the US Navy for four years as a corpsman and continued his career as a pharmacist technician at the VA Hospital in Phoenix.

He is survived by his friend John Lang, his sister Carol Showalter, Waterloo, his brother Ron, Peoria Ariz., and his brother Don, Charles City, who died three days later, Sept. 28.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Lois Showalter.

Donald Rosonke

Donald H. Rosonke, 67, of Floyd, IA, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday.

Donald Henry Rosonke was born August 28, 1939 in Elma, the son of Henry and Bernetta (Weber) Rosonke. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1957. Don farmed with his father for several years in the Elma area and then moved to Charles City in 1964. There Don worked as a painter and shop blast operator at the Oliver White Farm Plant for 30 years. After the closing of the plant, Don worked other jobs in the area until retiring in 1999. Don was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma and recently transferred his membership to the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. Don enjoyed playing pool, watching football, and playing cards. His passion was his family, whether it was camping with them, holidays, or other family events. Don was united in marriage to Nancy Smith on Sept. 23, 1995 at their home in rural Floyd.

Don is survived by his wife Nancy; one daughter Tina (Doug) Brightwell of Indianola, Iowa; six sons; Rick of Prior Lake, Minn., Todd (Stacy) of Vinton, Iowa, Brian (Jennie) of Omaha, Neb., Donald Jr. (Jennifer Hedrick) of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Scott (Erica) of Evansville, Wisc., and Jason (Liz Eden) of Vinton; five step-children; Bill Ransom of Floyd, Julie ‘Jewel’ Ransom of Mason City, Crystal (Tim) Farilie of Cedar Rapids, Sonya (David) Bosier of Cedar Rapids, and Amber (Mike) Franklin of Alburnet, Iowa; 34 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Carol Showalter of Waterloo; a twin brother Ron of Peoria, Ariz.,; an aunt Theresa Biwer of Elma.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lois Showalter; brother David Rosonke; and a grandson Lucas James Brightwell.


 

 

James L. Reams

James L. Reams, 90, of Charles City, died Friday, September 29, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for James L. Reams will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Sister Jennifer Rausch PBVM will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene at 3:30 p.m.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Monday with a sharing of memories at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

James Lavern Reams was born Aug. 25, 1916, the son of Arthur and Josephine (Ritter) Reams at Marble Rock. He graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1934. On Feb. 20, 1939, he was united in marriage to Virginia K. Meek at Greene. James farmed in the Marble Rock and Charles City area for his entire life. He was a member of the Senior Citizens in Charles City, and the 6-plus card club in Floyd. His interests included attending his children and grandchildren’s sports events, especially wrestling, football and softball, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, playing cards, shooting pool, farming, collecting John Deere memorabilia and, most of all, socializing and reminiscing with people.

Living family members include sons, Marcus (Eleanor) Reams, of Topeka, Kans., Robert (Diane) Reams of Charles City, William (Barbara) Reams of Nashua, and Wally (Mary Lou) Reams, Steven Reams, Michael Reams, and Curt (Carol) Reams all of Charles City; daughters, Mary Jo (Duane) Tresch of Floyd, Cheryl (Ron) Sonberg, of Charles City; 36 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Kathryn (Malcolm) Ott of Rockford, Thelma (Bill) Ernst of Mason City, and Beverly (Dick) Graham of Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Virginia of 66 years; and two sons, Russell Reams, and Richard Reams.

Vernon ‘Van’ Vanderlan

Vernon “Van” Vanderlan, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Van Vanderlan will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Vernon William Vanderlan was born on March 31, 1920, at Parkersburg, the son of William and Jennie (Cordes) Vanderlan. He graduated from Finchford High School. Van proudly served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. On Sept. 23, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hambly in Colorado. Van worked for 52 years as a car salesman. During that time, he worked for Charles City Motor from 1954-1970, Duroe’s Inc. from 1970-1981 and at Mike Molstead Motors from 1995 to the present. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had served as president of the congregation and as deacon and usher. Van was a 50-year member of the Elks Club, lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion and a member of Cedar Ridge Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed being with people. One of his greatest joys in life, however, was his grandson Luke. Van always looked forward to sharing his life with Luke.

Living family members include his wife Marilyn of Charles City; a grandson, Lucas P. Dix of Birmingham, Ala.; four brothers, Dale Vanderlan of Charles City, Richard (Barbara) Vanderlan of Charleston, S.C., Donald (Sharon) Vanderlan of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Wayne (Betsy) Vanderlan of Santa Cruz, Calif; three sisters-in-law, Martha (Charles) Hough of Aurora, Colo., Ardeth Dorris of Blue Springs, Mo., and Jane (Dean) Heintz of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Rebecca Jo Vanderlan.

Ida Marie Kollmann

NASHUA — Ida Marie Kollmann, 84, died Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2006, at her home in Nashua.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Pastor Thomas Hagen officiating.

Ida Marie Kollmann was born Nov. 15, 1921, at Orchard, the daughter of William and Ida Mae (Feltman) Love. She moved to a farm near Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1940.

Marie was united in marriage to Wilbur W. Kollmann on Feb. 23, 1941, at Vilmer. To this union, four children were born. She and Wilbur farmed near Charles City before moving to Nashua in 1950. Wilbur passed away on July 7, 1974.

 
 

She worked as a waitress at Cedar Parkway for many years and was also a Foster Grandparent, a job she truly loved. Marie was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church and served as secretary of the Ladies Aide and also helped with the Cradle Roll. She loved gardening, birds (especially cardinals and hummingbirds), making rag rugs and genealogy. There was always a special place in her heart for her long-time dog and companion, Susie.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Dale) Krumrey of Charles City and Sharon (Melvin) Allison of Ionia; one son, Wilbur Kollmann (Terri) of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Matilda Ott of Marble Rock and Margrete Kratchmer of Spooner, Wis.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. Her husband Wilbur; one son Wendell Kollmann on May 20, 1974; a great grandson, David Meyer, Jr; her parents and two sisters, Ethel Jones and Wilma Lockhart preceded her in death.

Irus Mae Wiltse Van De Maat was born Nov. 9, 1912, at Charles City, the daughter of Orval and Lulu (Carter) Wiltse. She received her education at Maple Grove School in Chickasaw County. On Oct. 13, 1934, she was united in marriage to Merle Van De Maat at Charles City. Irus was employed for 13 years at Field Drug. She also worked at Van’s Radio and TV and later at OK Hardware. Irus enjoyed reading, feeding birds, doing needlework and puzzles and taking care of her dogs and cats. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family and being a part of their lives.

Living family members include two children, Dixie (Jack) Teepe of Charles City and Donald Van De Maat of Viera, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter, Janet Van De Maat; and a brother, Leonard Wiltse.

Max Miller

Max Miller, 70, of Charles City, was born to eternal life on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, while surrounded by his family. He waged a 16-year battle against brain tumors with dignity, grace and unparalleled courage.

Funeral services for Max Miller will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Max LeRoy Miller was born April 20, 1936, in Charles City, the son of Clifford and Gwendolyn (Behnke) Miller. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1954. During his career as a licensed plumber, Max was a member of Local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters, retiring at Clausen Plumbing and Heating in Mason City. A long time member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, he served on numerous committees and spent a term as congregational president. He was a member of the Elks Club. Max loved to dance, travel, play cards, and spend time outdoors. He loved spring and the beginning of new life.

Max married the love of his life Georgena Peters on June 15, 1958, in New Hampton to begin a 48-year marriage of passion, love and commitment. He will be incredibly missed by his wife, beloved children Shawn and Dan Dana of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Stephanie and Audie Bremer of Katy, Texas, and his adored grandchildren, Atalia, Natasha and Brandon.

Max was a devoted and adoring husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man, who, by example, gave his children and grandchildren a deep seeded faith, compassion for others and love of family. He provided unending inspiration, encouragement and guidance to his family and friends. He simply made it his goal in life to guide, nurture and inspire others.

 
 

Max is further survived by his sister, Barbara Miller of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff of North Iowa Hospice and other caregivers for their kindness and ability to enable Max to remain at home during his final months. It meant a great deal to him and his family

Sharon Rose McDowell

NEW HAMPTON — Sharon Rose McDowell, 60, of New Hampton, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 4, 2006, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Center, New Hampton, with Rev. Don Czapla celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, with Jeromy Winter, Travis Winter, Tony Winter, Bob Hackman, Randy Buchheit and Jim Klunder as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Tammy Alford, Missy O’Hara, Penny Winter, Justin Alford, Chad O’Hara and Michelle Winter.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary and a 6 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues 8-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Sharon was born on July 20, 1946, in Waucoma, the daughter of Irvin and Evelyn (Vrzak) Winter. She received her elementary education in rural country school near New Hampton and was a 1965 graduate, of the New Hampton High School. On Feb. 7, 1970, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she married Jim McDowell. The couple later divorced.

Sharon was an active member at Holy Family Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister, lector and member of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s, and took communion to the home-bound. She worked 42 years, since 1963, at Klunder’s Caf/, formerly, the Crystal Grill in New Hampton. Sharon also made many wedding cakes for the last 38 years and was a licensed beautician. Sharon rejoined the love of her life in 1995, when she met Dennis Breitbach, who died on March 6 of this year. Her hobbies included embroidering, gardening, walking, music and being outdoors. Sharon was always interested in helping others, especially those going through cancer treatment.

Survivors include her mother, Evelyn Winter of New Hampton, two brothers, LaVern (Vada) Winter and Lee (Diane) Winter, all of Charles City, a sister-in-law, Darlene Winter of McFalls, Mo. Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Gordon Winter and two nieces, Sebrina Winter and Tina Winter.

Marion Louise Henke

ANACORTES, Wash. — Marion Louise Henke, 83, of Anacortes, Wash., died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Fidalgo Care Center in Anacortes.

She was born on Jan. 28, 1923, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Charles W. and Stella M. (Allen) McFarland. Her family returned to Charles City in 1928, where she received her education in the Charles City public schools, graduating with the Class of 1940. While in school, she was active in music, athletics and other school activities. Following high school, she continued her education at Drake University in Des Moines, and graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., in 1945.

Marion married Francis “Mac” McKay in 1946 in Charles City. They moved frequently while Mac served with the United States Air Force and later while working in aerospace. In 1993, she married E.W. “Bill” Henke in Charles City. They spent the winter months in Pharr, Texas, and retured to Charles City for summers. She enjoyed returning to her hometown to visit with all of her friends and classmates.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; husbands, Mac McKay in 1984 and Bill Henke in 1999; and her brother, Allen “Packey” McFarland in 1986.

She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jacque McKay of Port Orchard, Wash., and Will McKay of Anacortes, Wash.; two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; one niece; one nephew; three step-daughters Trisha (Ray) Murray of Hampton, Iowa, Lori (Ron) Kaglic, Goldsboro, N.C. and Suzi (Jim) Zirbel of Charles City; 9 step-grandchildren; and 7 step great-grandchildren.

Russel J. Vernon, 91, of Charles City died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Russel J. Vernon was born Dec. 28, 1914, near Carthage, S.D., the son of Frank B. and Hannah (Siglin) Vernon. He graduated from Woodward High School, Woodward, in 1931. On March 25, 1940, he was united in marriage to Irene Harker. They farmed most of their lives in the Floyd area. Russel was a member of Floyd United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and served as a Floyd Township trustee for many years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. His family was always very important to him and he took every opportunity so share his life with them.

Living family members include his wife Irene Vernon of Charles City; three children, Shirley Curry of Mesa, Ariz., David F. IONIA — Cherri Cleveland, 59, of Ionia, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, of cancer at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Ionia Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Hatch presiding. Gerald Bailey will be organist and accompany vocalists Peter and Phyllis Willadsen.

Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery near Nashua with Don Bonwell, Dean Lines, John Farley, Dan Testroet, Jeff Roths and Mark Koenigsfeld serving as casket bearers.

Cherri A. Cleveland was born Sept. 26, 1947, at Charles City, the daughter of Donald C. and Dorothy M. (Usher) Bonwell. She attended school in Nashua before graduating in 1966 from Charles City High School.

Cherri was married to Roger Cleveland on Feb. 17, 1968. She worked for many years at White Farm Equipment in Charles City and later at Sara Lee Bakery in New Hampton. She was presently employed at Fort Dodge Animal Health in Charles City. She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Ionia.

 
 

Cherri is survived by her husband Roger; a daughter, LeAnn Fuller of Marshalltown; two sons, Wesley (Heather) Cleveland of New Hampton and Jim (Susan) Cleveland of Boerne, Texas; five grandchildren, Ashtyn Fuller, Connor, Mason and Mallory Cleveland and Benton Cleveland; four sisters, Darliss (Bill) Farley of Waterloo, Sandra Huisman of Waterloo, Donna (Guy Jr.) Lines of Nashua and Brenda (Steve) Malloy of Omaha, Neb.; four brothers, Lynn (Paulette) Bonwell of Lansing, Allen (Carol) Bonwell of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Mary Ann) Bonwell of Waterloo and Denny (Cherri) Bonwell of Fertile; a sister-in-law, Sandie Bonwell of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Bonwell; a brother-in-law, Ron Huisman; a nephew; and two nieces.

Robert Boge, 67, of Charles City, died as a result of lung cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City with Rev. Carl Ries presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia. Visitation will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Robert Peter Boge was born June 28, 1939, at Buena Vista, the son of Norbert and Loretta (Dean) Boge. The family moved to the Ionia area when Robert was a young man. He graduated from St. Boniface High School and then entered the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper with the 81st Airborne and was discharged in 1960.

Robert was married in 1962 and had two sons from this marriage. He enjoyed the time with his sons, especially the times spent roller skating and also hunting. He was employed at White Farm Equipment in Charles City for 13 years and continued farming at that time as well. He later was a heavy equipment operator for Henkel Construction in Mason City.

His hobbies included dancing, listening to country-western music, camping and riding his Honda motorcycle.

Robert is survived by two sons, Jason Boge of Rochester, Minn., and Vincent Boge of Charles City; two grandchildren, Megan and Mitchel Boge of Miami, Fla.; five sisters, Lucille Lane of Ionia, Faye Barr of Cresco, Mary Lou Richter of Ionia, Carol Goddard of Nashua and Janet Poe of Maple Grove, Minn.; and two brothers, Arnie Boge of Ionia and Dennis Boge of Charles City

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Leon Boge.

Vivian Bonita Bailey was born Nov. 8, 1911, the daughter of Charles and Verna (Dow) Dugan at Charles City. She received her education at Charles City. On Aug. 31, 1929, she was united in marriage to Raymond Bailey at Charles City. Vivian was a full-time cook at Jefferson High School until retirement. She was a member of First Christian Church in Charles City and Friendship Circle. Her interests included cooking and eating; spending time with her grandchildren; visiting with others; she enjoyed life; and was known for always being on the go.

Living family members include a son, Raymond Bailey Jr. of Ionia; a daughter, JoAnn (Allen) Boggess of Ogden; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Peggy Chestnut; and a daughter-in-law, Esther Bailey.

MASON CITY — Delmer Dale Daniels, 59, of Mason City, died on Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City from complications due to Agent Orange.

Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Delmer joined the United States Army in September 1966 and served in Vietnam from Feb. 28, 1967, until March 1, 1968, with the 2 Battalion 14th Infantry Division. It was there that he was chemically wounded by exposure to Agent Orange.

On April 20, he was one of a very select group of Americans honored and recognized for his sacrifice while serving in the Republic of Vietnam with the Order of the Silver Rose.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Delmer D. Daniels Memorial Fund in care of his family.

Dorothy Grant, 84, of Charles City, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Memorial services for Dorothy Grant will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Chaplain Barb Mann, of Hospice of North Iowa, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Shell Rock.

Dorothy Ida Jungling Grant was born Nov. 19, 1921, at Shell Rock, the daughter of Harm and Florence (Easton) Jungling. She graduated from Shell Rock High School. After graduation, Dorothy taught country school in Butler County for two years. On March 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Grant at Waterloo. Later they moved to Georgia, where John was stationed in the Army at Waycross Army Air Field and Dorothy again taught school for three years at Waycross. When John was discharged, they moved to Shell Rock, where she and her sister-in-law drove lime truck for Grant Brothers and Swab. In 1958, they moved to Charles City, where over the years she worked at Gone to Market and assisted with catering. Dorothy was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, where she had served on the altar guild. She was also the past president of the Shell Rock American Legion Auxiliary. Her interests included cooking and reading. Dorothy will always be remembered as one who had a “green thumb” and for her love of cats.

Living family members include her husband, John Grant of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews, including Gary (Mary) Grant of Sedalia, Mo., and Janice Grant and her husband Bob Martin of Oregon, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents.

JANESVILLE — Jeffrey W. Boyer, 38, of Janesville, died on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea, Minn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Wednesday morning for one hour prior to services at church.

Jeffrey William was born on April 18, 1968, in Willmar, Minn., to William and Ramona (Bartelt) Boyer. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1987. Jeff began working for Carlson Craft in 1987 while he was earning a degree in graphic arts from South Central Technical College in Mankato, Minn. He has worked for Carlson Craft-Business Solutions in research and development his entire career. Jeff was united in marriage to Rhonda Kristine Augustin on Aug. 29, 1992, at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea.

He is survived by his wife Rhonda, and their three children, Riley, Hannah and Tanner of Janesville; his parents, William and Ramona Boyer of Albert Lea; nine brothers; four sisters; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Mary Augustin of Charles City; and his brother-in-law, Tim (Holly) Augustin of Blaine.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John.

Dan’s interests included fishing, listening to the radio and country music, gardening and crafts. He will always be remembered as a very friendly and outgoing person. Dan loved both his family and his Opportunity Village family.

Living family members include his father, Lloyd Flugge of Charles City; his mother, Jacqueline Prichard of Hoisington, Kan.; two step-brothers, Darrell (Joy) Adelmund of Waterloo and Daniel (Sharron) Adelmund of Chicago; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Ann Harris was born Sept. 8, 1933, in rural Greene, Floyd County, the daughter of Galen and Ella (Pierson) Harris and died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at Franklin County General Hospital in Hampton.

She received her education in country schools near Dougherty and later in the Marble Rock public schools. Dorothy worked as a private duty geriatric care provider in the Hampton area for many years. Later she worked for the Hampton Health Care Center and the Hampton Senior Citizens in food services. In recent years, she was a volunteer for Hospice of North Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Larry Eugene Bill on June 4, 1970, at Watertown, S.D. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her five sons and a loving grandmother. She enjoyed camping and fishing at Beeds Lake and playing cards. Dorothy was very proud of her Beanie Babies collection.

 
 

She will be remembered for the many fine dishes and deserts she shared with family and friends, which included, but were not limited to, potato salad, chocolate cake with extra frosting and hot fudge sundaes.

Living family members include her loving husband Larry of Hampton; five sons, Gary (Trish) Kulow of Adams, Minn., Jerry (Susan) Kulow of Plato, Texas, and Steve (Karen) Kulow, Greg (Ann) Kulow and Danny Kulow, all of Hampton; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; a foster son, Billy Wagons of Waterloo; three sisters, Thelma Ganson of Marble Rock, Phyllis McRoberts of Greene and Bonnie (Ron) Schriever of Marble Rock; a special niece, June Ganson of Mason City; and her mother-in-law, Dorothy Bill of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Church circle. Her interests included crocheting, embroidering, sewing, gardening, cooking, traveling and solving crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Living family members include three children and their spouses, Carol (Edward) Schmadeke and Lyle (Karen) Schmitt, all of Waterloo, and Marilyn (Richard) Gaule of Novato, Calif.; four grandchildren, Annette (Brad) Staples, Amy (Ron) McInroy, Sara (Dan) Hensing and Rachael Schmitt; a step-grandson, Joseph Pelton; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan Staples and Hanna and Molly Hensing; one brother Donald (Margaret) Einck of Denver; four sisters, Ardis Wiltse and Helen Einck, both of Charles City, Ila Mihm of New Hampton and Dorothy Carr of Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Lea Einck of Nashua; and one brother-in-law, Monsignor Ervin Schmitt of Pueblo, Colo.

Clarence Henry Wegner was born at home in Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa on Oct. 11, 1910, the son of Wilhelm and Theresa (Bahr) Wegner. He attended Colwell High School. He was joined in marriage to Elaine O’Donnell on Oct. 11, 1939. From this marriage three children were born, Joyce Tegtmeier of Charles City; Roger Wegner (wife Helen) of Gretna, NE and Terry Wegner (wife Teri) of Charles City.

Clarence was a life long farmer as well as a dairy farmer for forty years. He was once trained as an airplane mechanic and worked at Oliver Tractor Works in Charles City during World War II. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family loved to be united with him on any occasion and will always remember the joy and fun he imparted to Christmas with a special guessing games and friendly jokes. His many interests included fishing, skilled woodworking, welding, gardening, old westerns, reading and debating politics. He also had a love of history, family genealogy and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

 
 

Other living family members include eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren covering the width of the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed Wegner and Fred Wegner Sr.; one sister, Ida Ross; two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The visitation will continue Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to Bob’s service.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may wish to direct them to the family in the care of Bob’s wife, Catherine Hartmann, 801 5th Ave., Charles City, IA 50616.

Robert F. Hartmann was born Sept. 7, 1929, the son of Hazel (Crooks) and August Hartmann at home in rural Ionia. He attended the country brick schoolhouse and high school in Charles City. Robert was united in marriage to Catherine Springer Oct. 23, 1949. They both worked at Salsbury Laboratories at the time. His interests included Oliver tractors, gardening, playing cards, tinkering and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Robert leaves his loving wife, Catherine and their five children, Sandra (Mike Hueholt) of Urbandale, Barbara (Todd Sorensen) of Littleton, Colo., August (Carolyn) of Austin, Texas, Linda (Mike Leiva) of San Antonio, Texas, and Christina (Terry Payne) of New Hampton; eight grandchildren, Stephen, Eric, Cory, Matthew, Sean, Laura, Erica and Genie; his twin sisters, Doris Welch of Wisconsin and Dorothy (Robert Welter) of Nashua, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law and one grandson.

Rev. Arthur C. Wegner

Reverend Arthur C. Wegner, Jr., 80, of Charles City, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services for Rev. A. C. Wegner, Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Faith Bible Chapel. Pastor Paul Phillips of Gospel Lighthouse will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Arthur Carl Wegner, Jr. was born April 4, 1926, at North Hollywood, Calif., the son of Arthur C. and Helena (Sivy) Wegner, Sr. He graduated from high school in California and then attended Bible school in Eugene, Ore. During his life, he was married to Darlene DuShane, Lucille Kinney and Jean Roberts. Pastor Wegner ministered in Stockton, Calif., at Open Bible Church in Clear Lake and at a Methodist church in Henderson, Ill. He began his ministry at Faith Bible Chapel in August 1953, serving for 53 years. His connection with the parishioners and the community were the instrumental factors in staying with one parish for more than half a century. Pastor Wegner also worked for more than 10 years at Theisen’s Home Farm Auto. He was an honorary member of the V.F.W. His interests included reading, working as a handyman and listening to Christian music. Pastor Wegner will always be remembered as a dedicated, hard-working person at home, church and in the community.

Living family members include seven children, Sharol (Gary) McCoy of Charles City, Carl Wegner of Charles City, Paul (Cathy) Wegner of Scottsdale, Ariz., Diane (Doug) Gohr of Las Vegas, Arthur (Janan) Wegner of Marble Rock, Cynda (Terry) Green of Leander, Texas, and Andrew (Arlene) Wegner of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Alfred (Betty) Wegner of San Jose, Calif., and Alwyn (Esther) Wegner of Hillsdale, Wyo.; four nephews; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his three wives.

NASHUA — Herman W. Wedeking, 89, of Nashua, died Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2006 at Bartel’s Lutheran Home in Waverly.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at United Methodist church in Nashua with pastors Keith Tomlinson and Karl Schiltz officiating.

Internment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville, with Herman’s grandchildren serving as casket bearers.

GREENE — Funeral services for Eileen Burroughs of 108 South High St., Greene, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at United Methodist Church, Greene, with pastors Ashok Patet and Elsa Lawry officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, where there will be a public scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour before services at the church.

Eileen Butzlaff was born July 17, 1914, east of Greene in Dayton Township of Butler County, a daughter of Frederick Ferdinand Martin and Florence May (Metcalf) Butzlaff, and died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at Liebe Care Center in Greene.
