Priscilla Knudsen

NEW HAMPTON — Priscilla Knudsen, age 83 of New Hampton, formerly of Nashua, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at her home in New Hampton.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. on Monday April 3, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Nashua.

Caroline Sattari

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Caroline Dexheimer Sattari, 63, formerly of Charles City, died peacefully of cancer on Feb. 4, 2006, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. She recently moved from the Washington, D.C. area to her mountain home near Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was a 1960 graduate of Charles City Community High School and a graduate of Georgetown University Law School. She worked 20 years in that profession for Thomson-West. At the time of her death, she was a regional manager. Before her law career, she lived in Iran for 20 years where she opened a very popular American kindergarten.

Her love for children carried over into her role as a special mother and grandmother. She showered her children and grandchildren with love, attention and gifts.

She is survived by her daughter, Kian (Ken) Schuemann and their six children; and her son, Sasan (Kelly) Sattari, all of Colorado; her father, Donald; and her brother, Milton, of New York state; and her brother, Carl (Sheryl) and their two daughters and their families, of West Des Moines.

A memorial service was held on March 4, 2006, at her home in Colorado.
 


Dwight Bilharz

PEORIA, Ariz. — Dwight L. Bilharz passed away March 11, 2006, at Sierra Winds Care Center, Peoria, Ariz. Full military honors were conducted at The Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in California.

Dwight was born April 21, 1921, in rural Orchard, the son of Lorenzo and Una (Covey) Bilharz. He married Phyllis Blackman in 1950, while stationed in Georgia. He received his education in Grant grade school, Orchard High School, and then attended college at Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in engineering. From there he went to Officers Training for the U.S. Army. After 20 years in the service, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. At that time, they were living in California and he went to work as a County Engineer for Ventura County. In 1986, he retired from there and they moved to Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a son, Carl (Barbara) Bilharz, Williams, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Clarice Kuhn, Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald Bilharz, infant daughter, infant twin sisters and niece

Robert “Bob” J. Kloster

Robert "Bob" J. Kloster, 54, of 2184 Old Highway Rd. in Charles City died Friday evening, March 31, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

 

A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City, with the Rev. Carl Ries presiding. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City, a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. led by Sr. Jennifer Rausch. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Robert’s services Wednesday at the church.

Robert Joseph Kloster was born March 20, 1952, to Raymond Francis and Bernice Rosemary (Franzen) Kloster in New Hampton. He attended and graduated from the Charles City High School, class of 1972. "Bob" as he was affectionately known by family and friends, had lived most all of his life in Charles City.

Bob was employed as the maintenance manager for McDonald’s in Charles City, having been with the company for 24 years, his duties included maintenance supervision at eight stores in the area. Bob was known as "Mr. Fix It" and an extremely hard worker. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. He had a passion and love for animals, especially horses, cats and dogs. Bob will be remembered as a great practical joker. Some of Bob’s interests and leisure activities included camping and driving around on his golf cart, passing the time with his dog, “Otis,” fishing, traveling, and seeing the countryside. He also enjoyed NASCAR, Alf and wrestling. He will be best remembered as someone who was loving, caring, solid as a rock, being family-oriented and a very special brother.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Bob’s life are Neta Rae White of 20 years of Charles City; his siblings, Patsy (Charles) Hoffman of Charles City, James (Nicoletta) Kloster of New Hampton, Mary Jane (Wesley) Justus of Postville, Judy Kloster of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Clare (Leon) Grover of Alta Vista, Gary (Rae Sue) Kloster of Charles City, Debra (James) Mettner of New Hampton, Madonna Kloster of Charles City and Michael Kloster of Charles City; he is also survived by his aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond F. Kloster on November 26, 1995, Bernice Rosemary Kloster on November 25, 2003, and his son Shad Kloster in 1983.

Allan P. Miller

Allan P. Miller, 74, a resident of the Manor Care Facility in Waterloo and formerly of 110 Country View in Hudson, died early Friday morning, March 31, 2006, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, with family at his side.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., in Charles City with Pastor Fred Tessmer of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The visitation will continue on Tuesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to Allan’s service.

Allan Paul Miller was born June 7, 1931, to Harry Fred and Martha Dorthea (Pfenninger) Miller in Charles City. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Charles City and lived his entire life in the Floyd County and Black Hawk County area. He attended school in Charles City graduating from the Charles City High School, class of 1949. He moved to Cedar Falls in the mid 60’s with his family. He worked for a trucking company in Waterloo and retired from John Deere as a factory worker in 1992. Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his life are his two children, Marilyn D. Williamson of Davenport, and Randall A. Miller of Minneapolis; he was a farmer in the Floyd County area throughout his early life, a John Deere factory worker, a UAW member, and a proud member of the Democratic Party. His hobbies included being a stamp, coin and antique toy collector, home repair, traveling and camping, as well as farming with his family in Plainfield until 1964.

He was proud to be the brother of Ruth E. Miller of Beverly Hills, Calif., and to be a grandfather of three granddaughters, Chrissy Solis of Davenport, Mary Walther of Davenport, and Jeanne Walther of Hawthorne, Calif., and a great-grandfather of seven, three great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.

His mother, Martha D. Miller, in 2000, and his father, Harry F. Miller in 1965, preceded Allan in death.

Vera Litterer

Vera Litterer, 91, of Charles City, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Vera Litterer will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Vera Marie Koester Litterer was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Butler County, the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Voigts) Koester. She graduated from the Clarksville High School in 1933, and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Vera taught country school in Butler County for four years. On Nov. 12, 1939, she was united in marriage to Leonard Litterer in Clarksville. They farmed all of their lives. Vera was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Christian Ones. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Club. Her interests included flower and vegetable gardening, quilting and watching the Hawkeyes and Minnesota Twins. Vera always took an interest in her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include six children, Myrna (Skip) Ward and Stanley (Lois) Litterer both of Charles City, Gary (Sally) Litterer of Garner, Ron Litterer of Mason City, Dale (Judy) Litterer of Newton, N.C. and Shari (Dale) Proctor of Manson; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence (Lois) Koester of Allison; a sister, Laura Scheidecker of Clarksville; a sister-in-law, Mabel Litterer of Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Oct. 16, 1996; an infant son, Herman Litterer; and a brother, Harold Koester.

Mildred McDonald

DELAFIELD, Wis. — Mildred J. McDonald, 81, of Delafield, Wis., passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin.

Funeral services were Monday, April 3, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home in Oconomowoc, Wis. Rev. Erik Gronberg officiated. She was buried in City of Delafield Cemetery in Delafield, Wis.

Mildred was the daughter of Dewey and Nellie (Goddard) Huffman. She married John McDonald on July 8, 1939.

Survivors include her husband John McDonald; children Jerry (Judy) McDonald of Pewaukee, Arnie (Sue) McDonald of Oxford and Sandy (fianc/e Andy Balazo) Fleck of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Sharon McDonald of Mukwonago; half-brother Ronald Huffman of Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by son Tom; two brothers, Chester and Harold Huffman; and sister Grace McDonald.

Wilhelmine ‘Minnie’ Willert

OSAGE — Wilhelmine "Minnie" Willert, 98, of Osage, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Charles City. Inurnment will be at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon at a later date.

Oscar Ott

Oscar Ott, 83, of Charles City, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Oscar Bernard Ott was born Nov. 11, 1922, in St. Lucas, the son of Baptist and Helena (Hackman) Ott. He attended Saint Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas. On April 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Thecla Wenthold at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Festina. They farmed all of their lives near Rudd. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Senior Citizens. Oscar enjoyed fishing, taking walks and visiting with his buddies, flower gardening and tinkering with and adjusting his cars. His family was always very important to him and he looked forward to spending time with all of them, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Thecla Ott of Charles City; nine children, Joyce (Jim) Foth of Ankeny, Jerald (Mary) Ott of Mason City, Richard (Linda) Ott of Nora Springs, Phyllis (Bill) Ritter of Nevada, Dean (Ann) Ott of Marble Rock, Larry (Debra) Ott of Greene, Cindy (Robert) Scott of Des Moines, Sherry (Bernard) Larson of Round Rock, Texas, and Sally (Patrick) VanHooser of Forest City; one brother, Dale Ott of Ft. Atkinson; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hilda Bullerman of Charles City, Leona Barloon of New Hampton and Hermina Koudelka of Cresco.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jamie Ott; and four brothers; Roman, Leo, Paul and Herbert Ott.

Tom Junior Chandler

 

NASHUA — Tom Junior Chandler, 78, Rockledge, Fla., formerly of Nashua passed away Wednesday evening, February 15, 2006, at Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne, Fla.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Karl Schiltz officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. The family will greet friends at the church fellowship Hall following services.Tom was born March 3, 1927 in Chariton, the son of Oscar and Vera (Raymond) Chandler. The family moved to Nashua when Tom was a baby and he graduated from Nashua High School in 1945, where he was a standout athlete. After a brief stint in the Navy, Tom married Mary Norman in 1946 and to this union two children, Linda and Steve, were born. He attended Iowa State Teacher’s College at Cedar Falls on a baseball and basketball scholarship and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He went on to teach and coach before accepting a job with State Bond and Mortgage Company.

In 1959, he married Zelda Scott, began his career in sales with Neptune Meter Company and also moved to Columbia, Mo. Tom retired in 1984. Tom and Zelda moved to Lady Lake, Fla., in 1990, then moved to Rockledge, Fla., in 2002

Tom joined the Grand Lodge of Iowa and was a lifetime Masonic member. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished club maker.

He was loved by family and friends. Tom was the unfortunate victim of the devastating disease, dementia, which ultimately took his life. He will be missed.

Tom is survived by his wife, Zelda Chandler of Rockledge, Fla., his daughter, Linda Chandler and her two children, Josephine and Alex of Solon; his son, Steven Chandler of Melbourne, Fla., and a sister, Phyllis Hinch of Clarksville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dick, Duff, Tim and Kenneth Chandler; six sisters, Nancy Chandler, Unabelle Trytten, Irma Frederick, Harriett Fisher, Shirley Rollins and Mary White

Maxine Lomison

Maxine Lomison, 93, of Charles City, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Maxine Lomison will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Gale Richards of the Colwell United Church of Christ Will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday an hour prior to the service.

Maxine Marie Lomison was born June 22, 1912, in Jefferson, the daughter of Rex and Goldie (Stuart) Sturdivant. She graduated from the Colwell High School in 1931. Maxine was united in marriage to Rubert Rowley in 1931. Rubert died in 1953, as the result of an airplane accident. On April 27, 1956, she was united in marriage to Lawrence “Bud” Lomison at Charles City. They farmed north of Bassett until 1984, when they retired and moved into Charles City. Maxine also worked for three years at Wandro’s Produce. She was a member of the

Colwell United Church of Christ, where she held various offices over the years. Maxine also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, Heritage Club and the Twisters Square Dance Club.

Living family members include her husband, Lawrence “Bud” Lomison of Charles City; a daughter, Shirley (Russell) Nordman of Charles City; a son, Kenneth (Mary) Rowley of Charles City; four grandchildren; Jeff (Melody) Nordman, Denise (Brian) Kelly, Rachael (Barry) Kelly and Tim Rowley; six great-grandchildren, Chase, Alex, Brianna, Alyssa and Spencer Kelly and Nicole (Travis) Hanaway; two great great-grandchildren, Levi Lindner and Halle Hanaway; and a brother, Donald Sturdivant.

She was preceded by her parents; first husband; a brother, Paul Sturdivant; and a sister, Helen Chestek.

Edna E.E. Nott

Edna E.E. Nott, 88, of 300 Monroe St., Floyd, died early Saturday morning, April 8, 2006, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City where she had been a resident since November.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag and Rev. David Werges officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue at the church, one hour prior to Edna’s service.

Edna Evelyn Elizabeth Nott, the daughter of Emil August and Bertha Amelia (Krumrey) Voelker, was born Aug. 10, 1917 near Colwell. She was the youngest of five children born to her parents and attended school in Colwell, graduating among the class of 1933.

Edna met her future husband Lloyd Arthur Nott at a dance at the Castle Club in Charles City. On Nov. 27, 1940, Edna and Lloyd were united in marriage at the St. John Parsonage in Charles City. They continued the love of dancing together, especially on Saturday nights to any kind of older music, socializing at the VFW or the Moose Lodge and traveling to many of the states.

Edna and Lloyd became the proud parents of two sons, Lyle and Dennis. As a family, they looked forward to their annual vacation and fishing trip to Margaret, Minn., where Edna learned to cook the catch of fresh fish to perfection. In later years, Edna’s entire family, including her grandchildren joined in on the annual Minnesota fishing trip. Edna and Lloyd moved from Charles City to Floyd in 1966.

Edna, who lived all her life in the Charles City area, will be remembered as a "people person" with a vivacious and congenial personality. She thoroughly enjoyed working in the public and volunteering in her church and community.

Edna was employed for 19 years at J.C. Penney and later worked as an assistant cashier for 28 years at the Commercial Bank in Charles City, retiring in 1983. She was a faithful member of the St. John Evangelical Church and the Dorcas Women’s Circle, a former president of the VFW Auxiliary, former treasurer of the Floyd County Cancer Society, former treasurer of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, former member of the Floyd Community Center Board, former member of the Floyd Citizens Scholarship Board and a volunteer at the Comprehensive System’s Treasure Chest. Edna’s family recalls her knack for making wonderful potato salad and baking homemade chocolate chip cookies and peanut brittle. She found great joy in tending to her home in Floyd, nurturing her flower gardens, avidly playing bingo at the Floyd Community Center, her tenderness toward animals and staying in touch with her family, many times writing letters and "tucking a little money treasure" inside. Her grandchildren looked forward to time spent staying at their grandmother’s home. Edna was known to be giving, kind and compassionate.

Edna will be dearly missed by family and friends who have shared in her life. She is survived by her two sons, Lyle and Karen Nott of Iowa Falls and Dennis and Sarah Nott of Boise, Idaho; her four grandchildren, Joel (Jasie) Nott, John (Kathy) Nott, Margaret Nott and Adam Nott; six great-grandchildren; her two nieces, Marian (Larry) Smith and Arlene (Kenneth) Elliott, all of Charles City; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Evelyn Nott and sister-in-law, Marlise Nott and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Edna in death are her husband, Lloyd A. Nott in 2001; her parents, Emil and Bertha Voelker; her infant sister, Margaret Voelker; her three brothers, Harry, Ernest and Lewis Voelker and her granddaughter, Jennifer Nott.

Dorothy E. Logan

Dorothy E. Logan, 88, formerly of the Liebe Care Center in Greene and the Starr Home in Charles City, died Saturday morning at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City with Rev. Carl Ries and Rev. Walter Brunkan officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The reciting of the rosary will be led by the Catherine Circle beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. prayer vigil service. The visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Dorothy Eliza Logan was born July 8, 1917 in Roanoke, Ill. to Fred and Rosa (Davis) Bill. She was one of 16 children (12 daughters and four sons) born to her parents and educated in Colwell and the Floyd County rural school. In her early adulthood, Dorothy was employed at Kemp’s Caf/.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Irvin F. Logan on Feb. 22, 1941 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Following their marriage, the couple began farming near Charles City and became the parents of a son, Roger and a daughter, Rose Marie. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother.

Some of Dorothy’s earlier interests included vegetable gardening, canning, making berry jams, square dancing with Irvin and playing cards. Dorothy was known for her sense of humor and active in many community and church activities. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the St. Catherine’s Women’s Circle and the Senior Citizens Group at church, active on the social committee at the Starr Home, a member of the Independent Club-Iowa Blind Commission and assisted with volunteer work on the telephone check up committee in Floyd County. At age 50, Dorothy entered the world of blindness. She enrolled, learned braille and graduated from the School for the Blind in Des Moines. Later, she was delighted to speak, inspire and educate young Girl Scouts in over-coming adversities in life.

In August of 1975, her beloved Irvin died. Dorothy moved to the Starr Home in Charles City, where she lived for 25 years. For the past eight years, she resided at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. Dorothy remained active in her advanced adult life, swimming at the YMCA, visiting with friends at the nursing home and conversing with her family and friends "just to hear, what’s going on." She treasured her time spent vacationing at her granddaughter’s home in Texas.

Dorothy will be cherished memory to many who have shared in her life. She is survived by her granddaughter, Gina Eubanks of Humble, Texas and her grandson, Steve and Stacy Roeming of Thornton, Colo.; her two great-grandsons, Dillon and Devon Roeming; her six sisters, Violet and Gerald Klassen of Cherry Valley, Ill., Myrtle Albrecht of Greene, Elsie Conway, Grace Waddell, Frieda and Bill Hart and Arlene and Kenneth Carr, all of Charles City and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Dorothy in death is her husband, Irvin Logan; her parents, Fred and Rosa Bill; her son, Roger Logan; her daughter, Rose Marie Roeming; her five sisters, Lois Bill, Mae Mackamul, Clara Parker, Florence Wells and EdithWeidner and her four brothers, Ernie, Elmer, Harvey and Lester Bill.

Bertha Laube, 88, of Charles City, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Bertha Katherina Magdalena Vetter Laube was born April 25, 1917, in Floyd County, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Kehret) Vetter.

She received her education from rural Floyd County country schools. On March 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herman Laube at Saint John’s United Church of Christ Pleasant Hill. They farmed for many years south of Charles City. In November 1967, they moved into Charles City where they were custodians at the First Christian Church until December 1989. She was a lifelong member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ-Pleasant Hill, where she was also active in the Women’s Fellowship and choir.

She was also a member of the Heritage Club, a neighborhood card club and had worked with the Hospice bereavement group. Bertha’s interests included fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, playing cards, baking and doing needlework.

Living family members include two sons, Herbert (Lydia) Laube of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Richard (Judy) Laube of Charles City; six grandsons, Timothy (Christy) Laube, Thomas (Jeannie) Laube, Trinity (Robin) Laube, Tyrone Laube, Jason Laube and Justin Laube; eight great grandchildren, Mason, Trenton, Tyler, Dylan, Caitlyn, Kylie, Alyssa and Daniel Laube.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother; Edwin Vetter; and a sister, Florence Niehaus.

Isabel Cecelia Reiter

GREENE — Funeral services for Isabel Cecelia Reiter, 88, formerly of 124 Railroad St., Marble Rock, will be 11 a.m.,Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene with Pastor Rick Fessel, of Temple Baptist Church in Charles City, will be officiating.

Isabel Cecelia Reiter was born March 30, 1918, in rural Dumont, a daughter of Andrew J. and Ella (Jacobs) Hesse, and died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

As a young girl, she received her education in the rural schools and later in the Shell Rock Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Eno John Reiter on Sept. 1, 1936, in Waverly. To this union were born five children.

Isabel loved to garden and shared strawberries with family and friends, grown in her large strawberry patch. She loved to hang wash on the line and was especially proud of how white she could keep her white clothes. Isabel made many friends in her lifetime and enjoyed going visiting and playing “500." Her children will always remember her strict admonition about doing everything correctly the first time or “Do it over until its done right.”

She is survived by two daughters: Maxine (Jerry) Watkins of Charles City, and Marlys Reiter of Hansell; three sons: Melvin (Ann) Reiter of Charles City, Merlyn (Ramona) Reiter of Rockford and Alvin Reiter of Marble Rock; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Eno Reiter on Nov. 26, 2005, two grandsons: Melvin Reiter Jr., and Kevin Reiter, her parents, nine brothers: William Hesse, Frank Hesse, Andrew Hesse Jr., Herman Hesse, Henry Hesse, John Hesse, Detlef Hesse, Bernard Hesse, Charles Hesse; two sisters: Hulda “Goldie” Hodges, Emma Tegtmeier; two half sisters: Olga, who died in 1918, Velma Krull; three children in infancy.

NASHUA — Myrna E. Jepson, 89, of Galesburg, Ill. formerly of Nashua passed away Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2006, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the United Methodist church in Nashua with Pastors Kent Sovine and Karl Schiltz officiating. Nelda Shepard will be the organist with Sheila Day singing “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Take Time to be Holy.”

Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Nashua with Kent Smith, Craig Smith, Paul Jepson, Brad Jepson, Brent Jepson, David Scandrett and Brian Smith serving as casket bearers.

 

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Myrna was born June 2, 1916, in Wessington, S.D., the daughter of Allen and Mabel (Kalb) Scandrett. She moved to Marble Rock, with her parents.

She was united in marriage to Lyle P. Jepson on Feb. 22, 1938, at her parents’ home in Marble Rock. To this union, two children were born.

 

 

Myrna and Lyle farmed in the Nashua area until they retired and moved to Nashua, where she assisted with his Dairy Herd Improvement business. They moved to Seminary Estates in Galesburg, in 1999. Due to failing health, they became residents of Seminary Manor in 2002.

Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, needlework, oil painting and ceramics. She was active in her church, Sunday school, Women’s Bible Studies and Christian Clowning. She was a member of the former Nashua Bible Church and attended Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City and Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg.

Myrna is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Lee) Smith of Galesburg; her son, Birkley Jepson of Euless, Texas; a brother, Gaylord (Verna) Scandrett of Ames; a sister, Verna (Paul) Mull of Greene; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on Feb. 18, 2004; her parents; one brother, Onas Scandrett; and an infant sister, Dollie Mae Scandrett.

Ardell Sullivan, 82, of Charles City, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Memorial Services for Ardell Sullivan will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Wilcox, of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Frankville Cemetery at Frankville.

Ardell Lavon Stegen Sullivan was born Oct. 16, 1923, at Frankville, the daughter of Hans and Ruth (Miekle) Stegen. She graduated from the Postville High School. On Nov. 11, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lee Sullivan. They lived in Bassett for many years. In 1962 she moved to Charles City. During her working career she was employed at Frink’s Greenhouse for 10 years and Cashman’s Nursery, now Sherman Nursery, for 25 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Ardell always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the companionship of her cats, Jesse and Jackie.

 

Living family members include six children: Karen Uker of Charles City, Gloria (Danny) Wilson of Charles City, Donna (Curt) Hammerberg of Savage, Minn., Steven (Bonita) Sullivan of Charles City, Debra Sullivan of Shakopee, Minn. and Becky Allyn of Savage, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Nita Sullivan of Mason City; a brother, Mike (Jan) Stegen of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Marge (Kenny) Ewing of Waukon and Gladys “Pat” Romeo of Wis.

Pauline Bertha Vietor Hackbart was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Charles City, the daughter of John and Bertha (Pol) Vietor. She graduated in 1937 from the Amery High School at Amery, Wis., and then from LaJames Beauty School. Pauline and her family came to Charles City in 1937. On Sept. 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Hackbart in Mason City. Pauline worked as a beauty operator before becoming proprietor of Polly’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Living family members include two daughters: Gene (Blair) Stadelhofer of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Paula (Jim) Beitler of Granger, Ind.; a son, Terry (Martha) Hackbart of Golden, Colo.; five grandchildren: Scott (Heather) Stadelhofer, Kelly (Matt) Rubel, Sarah (Steve) Xiao and David and Jessica Hackbart; two great-grandchildren, Davis Rubel and Jadon Xiao; and many nieces and nephews, including Bev DeWalle of Charles City and John Isaacson of River Falls, Wis.

Nellie Dvorak Gerber

Nellie Dvorak Gerber, 98, of Charles City, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Nellie Gerber will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Nellie Mildred Miller Dvorak Gerber was born March 10, 1908, at Enid, Okla., the daughter of John and Theresa (Devery) Miller. She received her education in Oklahoma.

Nellie was united in marriage to Charles Dvorak. Charles died on Aug. 15, 1961. Nellie was then married to Fred Gerber on April 19, 1969. Fred died on March 6, 1986. She worked in the dietary department of St. Joseph’s School in Cresco. Nellie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Circle. Her interests included doing needlework and arts and crafts of various types and listening to country western music.

Living family members include six children, William (Ruth) Dvorak of Fremont, Neb., Eugene (Eileen) Dvorak of Waterloo, Robert (Peg) Dvorak of Denison, Tex., Charles (Grace) Dvorak of Bellingham, Wash., Karen (Dale) Linderman of Mason City, and Wayne (Linda) Dvorak of Gillette, Wyo.; 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James Miller of Shawnee, Okla.

Donald R. Swedberg

RUDD — Donald R. Swedberg, 66, of 1750 150th Street, Rudd, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a struggle with lymphoma.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006, at United Methodist Church in Rudd, with Reverend Wendy Johannesen officiating. Following the memorial services, friends are invited to join the family in the church’s fellowship hall for lunch and a time to share of memories.

Don was born on Feb. 6, 1940, in Red Oak, the son of Lyle and Gladys (Allen) Swedberg. He moved to Rudd with his parents in 1943.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Schriever on April 1, 1962. They had two daughters, Pam and Jan.

Don and Marge farmed outside of Rudd. He also worked for 37 years at Omnitel Communications in Nora Springs, where he retired in August 2005.

Donnie enjoyed his four grandchildren and the special times they shared together. He enjoyed traveling to car and truck shows throughout the U.S. Donnie loved restoring old vehicles. He was a member of the Henry Hauler’s F-100 pickup club in Mason City. Donnie will miss his “coffee talk” with many friends. He was also a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Marjorie, Rudd; two daughters and their children, Pam Engels and children, Kendra and Kiersten Engels, Longmont, Colo.; and Jan (Lloyd) Trask and children, Trent and Chelsie Trask, Rockford; brother, Deryl (Pat) Swedberg; six close brother-in-laws and their families; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Gladys Swedberg.

Lucille Ethel Winkelman Carroll was born Aug. 15, 1930, in New Hampton, the daughter of William and Ethel (Whitnabel) Winkelman. She received her education at the Bradford School, Nashua.

On Sept. 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Carroll at the Little Brown Church. They lived in the Nashua area before moving to Charles City. Lucille was an Avon representative for a number of years and also worked at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City Cabinet Factory, Trowbridge and Red Owl supermarkets and at Fareway. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith. Her interests and hobbies included bird watching, fishing, playing cards, aggravation and pinball machines and dancing. Lucille’s greatest enjoyment at this time, since it was difficult to leave her home, was talking with her friends on the telephone.

Living family members include two children, Jerry Carroll and special friend Sandi Hogan of Ionia, and Connie (Loui) Castellanes of Jamul, Calif.; three grandchildren, Joey (Tara) Carroll, Michelle (Jeff) Zaiser and Heather (Chris) Zennedjian; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Christian Zennedjian; a brother, William (Lois) Winkelman of Charles City; a sister, Valeda (Kenneth) Lines of Nashua; and many nieces and nephews.

SAN DIEGO — Cornelius Anthony Hargrave (Bud), 66, died at Alvarado Hospital, San Diego, Calif., on March 1, 2006.

The son of George Cornelius and Margaret (Fods) Hargrave, he was born in Charles City, Feb. 17, 1940. He graduated in 1959, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and completed his career in 1980 in the United States Army at an E6 rank.

He was a Vietnam Veteran, worked in communications and as a survey engineer. He had been a member of military organizations and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Charles City. He was an avid coin collector, loved music and books.

After his retirement from the military service, he earned associate degrees in arts and sciences from San Diego City College and a bachelor’s degree in business from National University.

Survivors include his mother of San Diego; sisters Jo Sahm of Arnold, Calif., Judy Siver of Hazelhurst, Wis., and Anne Monger of Las Vegas; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, father and a brother, Alfred.

 
 

A funeral mass was held on March 8, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine LaBoure Catholic Church in San Diego. Full military honors and inurnment were on March 22, 2006, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego.


 
Randy L. Austin
 
 
 

SEDONA, Ariz. — Randy Lee Austin, 53, a resident of Sedona, Ariz., died April 4, 2006, in West Sedona.

Born Dec. 20, 1952, in Mason City, Mr. Austin served two years in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Austin worked for Larson Company, building artificial rock works all over the United States. Some of his works are the Polynesian Theater in Hawaii, an exhibit at the Indianapolis Zoo, Sea World in Orlando, Fla., the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, Calif. and a retaining wall on Hwy. 89A in Sedona.

Mr. Austin is survived by two sisters, Colleen Austin of Prescott, Ariz., and June Mitchell of Lucerne Valley, Calif.; four nephews and one niece; and many friends in the Verde Valley.

A celebration of life in honor of Mr. Austin took place at Relics, 3235 W. Hwy., 89A, West Sedona, on Tuesday, April 11, 2006.

Edmund John Voyna was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Howard County, the son of Frank and Victoria (Lundak) Voyna. He received his education from rural Howard County schools and later received his GED. On Oct. 23, 1945, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Kessler. Edmund worked at the Oliver, Adrian Implement, the Department of Transportation and H & M Transport. After retirement, Edmund worked for Precision Chasse Co., and Janssen Engineering. In the early 1980s, they moved to Arkansas. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge. Edmund enjoyed fishing and the company of others. His family was very important to him and he looked forward to spending time with them, especially the grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Sylvia Voyna of Knoxville, Ark.; five children, Steven (Cheryl) Voyna of Des Moines, Carol (Jerry) Johnson of Bassett, Leland (Gail) Voyna of Charles City, Kevin Voyna of Anamosa and Vicki Janssen of Russellville, Ark; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia Ripley of Salem, Conn. and Edith Mayer of Lime Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Voyna; and two sisters, Mary Fye and Agnes Frana.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Paul D. Kintop, 70, of Rochester, Minn., died Friday, April 14, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services for Paul will be at 10 a.m., today, Wednesday, April 19, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, with the Rev. Tom Koelln officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

He was born May 29, 1935, in Charles City, and graduated from Charles City High School in 1953.

He was drafted into the United States Army on Feb. 28, 1958 to January 1960. Paul was in charge of the Army Hospital Lab and was stationed outside of Paris. He traveled all over Europe for two years. He then went to Hamilton Business College in 1960. He then moved to Rochester in June 1964, where he worked for Olmsted County Bank and also worked for Jensen Real Estate. In 1971, he was employed at the Rochester Public Utilities, until he retired on May 29, 1998.

He was a member of the Elks Club for 25 years, a member of the Eagles Club for seven years and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Karen of Rochester; one daughter Amy Kintop of Bloomington, Minn.; two sons Kevin Kintop of Winona, Minn., and Michael Kintop of Red Wing, Minn.; four stepdaughters Darice (Nick) Wunderlich of Rochester, Minn., Wendy (Brian) Swarthout of Ocheyedan, Diane (Kenneth) Linder of Fanwood, N.J., and Coleen (Bill) Schildhauer of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one stepson Scott (Shandra) Henrichs of Rapid City, S.D.; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edmund Voyna, 86, of Knoxville, Ark., formerly of Charles City, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Johnson Medical Center, at Clarksville, Ark.

Funeral services for Edmund Voyna will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Niezwag, of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call an hour prior to the service.

Edmund John Voyna was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Howard County, the son of Frank and Victoria (Lundak) Voyna. He received his education from rural Howard County schools and later received his GED. On Oct. 23, 1945, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Kessler. Edmund worked at Oliver, Adrian Implement, the Department of Transportation and H & M Transport. After retirement, Edmund worked for Precision Chasse Co., and Janssen Engineering.

NASHUA — Kenneth P. Wagner, 70, of Nashua died Wednesday evening, April 19, 2006, in the emergency room at Waverly Health Center in Waverly of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Hagen officiating. Travis Beck will serve as organist with Troy Stille singing ãIn The Garden and The Old Rugged Cross.

Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. Casketbearers will be Elwyn Shipp, Neal Tracy, Don Bast, Leroy Reuscher, Gary Lore and Bill Kunzman.

Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Kenneth Paul Wagner was born Oct., 11, 1935 in Butler County, the son of Oscar and Emma (Biekert) Wagner. He attended country school and Nashua Elementary. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1954.

 
 

He was united in marriage to Louise A. Losee on June 10, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Rockford. To this union two sons, Paul and Evan were born. They lived in Nashua their entire married life.

Kenny joined his father in the Wagner Woodwork & Welding business. Following his father’s death, Ken became the owner and operator of the Wagner Sales & Service. He retired in 1994. Wagner Crafts became a thriving business in 1995 as Kenny continued his metal and welding talents at his shop at home. Welding and woodworking were his lifetime hobbies.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Iowa Blacksmiths and Welders and the Odd Fellows in Nashua and New Hampton.

 
 

Ken is survived Louise; two sons, Paul (Kathy) Wagner of Nashua and Evan (Heidi Miller) Wagner of Plainfield; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Emily, Nicholas, Miranda, Tabetha Wagner, Drew and Lexi Miller; two brothers, Jerry (Emma) Wagner of Greene, Max (Bonnie) Wagner of Egan, MN; Jean (Darrell) Weigand of Nashua.

His parents, Oscar and Emma Wagner, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2006 with Pastor Tim Robbins officiating. Mary Jane Litton will play the piano and sing “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus,” accompanied by her sisters, Virginia Glucklich and Jean Drayer.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua. Casketbearers will be Nate Glucklich, Sam Glucklich, Don Stille, Chad Kleve, Paul Miller and Gary George.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Fred Hauser was born Aug. 25, 1913 on the family farm west of Nashua, the son of Walter and Selma (Sheller) Hauser. He attended Fremont No. 8 Country School.

 
 

He was united in marriage to Eva M. Caster on June 25, 1939, at the Little Brown Church. To this union three daughters were born.

In 1930, Fred bought an electric welder and in 1934 moved to Nashua and started Hauser Manufacturing Co. From 1931 to 1941, Fred had the sales line for J & Case Farm Machinery Co., and later took a contract with Shield Bantam Manufacturing Co. He made cabs and buckets for Shield Bantam. He also did proto-type engineering for Oliver/White Tractors. He continued to work in his shop for more than 67 years.

He was active member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, church chairman, board member and representative for the Missionary Evangelistic Fellowship Mission organization.

 
 

Fred enjoyed designing, creating and machine work, flying his plane. He loved music, playing his steel guitar and singing. He loved teaching Sunday school, being with young people and sharing his faith in Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Eva; three daughters, Mary Jane Linton of Hartville, Ohio, Virginia (Walter) Glucklich of Cokato, Minn., and Lydia Jean (David) Drayer of Turlock, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Daniel Linton, Debra Kanel, Nate, Sam and Tina Glucklich, Sarah Drayer and Jessica deBruyn; five great-grandchildren, Anthony and Alinea Kanel, Megan, Molly and Elizabeth Glucklich; one brother, Arthur Hauser of Molalla, Ore.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Bradley Linton; three brothers, Ernest, Carl and Clarence Hauser; one sister, Lydia Hellman.

Gladys Mae Cook was born June 7, 1938, in rural Charles City, Floyd County, a daughter of Heddie and Blanche (Towner) Cook, and she died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Floyd County Hospital, Hospice Unit, in Charles City.

She received her early education at St. Charles No. 1 rural school, and graduated from Charles City High School in 1957. As a young lady, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Lindemere Dairy in Charles City. Gladys was united in marriage to Wayne Vinton Feldman on Jan. 17, 1960, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. To this union were blessed two sons. For several years, Gladys was employed at the Greene Community School working in the kitchen.

Since 1979, Gladys has been employed at the First State Bank, now Lincoln Savings Bank in Greene, where she retired this spring.

 
 

Gladys loved spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She took pleasure in her flowers, gardening and bird watching. Gladys enjoyed going to craft shows, shopping, playing cards, and bowling. Her interests included watching sporting events and traveling.

Gladys was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, where she was a member of the Evening Circle.

Living family members include two sons: Michael (Sherry) Feldman, Urbandale, Douglas (Kristi) Feldman, Greene; one granddaughter, Liberty Rose Feldman, Greene; one grandson, Vinton Allen Feldman, Greene; two brothers: Roger Cook, Alamo, Texas, and Robert (Karen) Cook, Charles City.

 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on March 26, 2005, her parents, one sister: Ruth Koenigsfeld; infant twin grandsons: Nile and Noah Feldman.

NORA SPRINGS — Susan E. Welp, 63, of Nora Springs, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Reverend Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Susan E. Welp was born on June 21, 1942, in Mason City, the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth (Taylor) Treloar. She graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School. After attending Iowa State University, she lived in California, Des Moines, Carlisle, Exira, and Moulton before returning to Nora Springs in 1977. She was untied in marriage to Raymond Welp in of July 1981. Susan worked at Printing Services Inc., in Mason City.

Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs.

 
 

Susan enjoyed walking, bowling, arts and crafts, and family and friends fondly remember the greeting cards she made for all occasions. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two granddaughters, Ciara and Casie.

Susan is survived by her three children, Heather Conley, Normal, Ill., Cody Conley, Oskaloosa, and Elizabeth Conley, Nora Springs; two granddaughters, Ciara and Casie Conley, Oskaloosa; three brothers, Robert (Judy) Treloar, Vero Beach, Fla., Jay Treloar, Mason City, and Ross (Lori) Treloar, Nora Springs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Bruce, and his wife Barbara Treloar.

Benjamin "Ben" J. Kluwe, Jr., 70, of 308 15th Ave. in Charles City died Monday morning, April 24, 2006, in the hospice room at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City with Sister Jennifer Rausch, PBVM presiding. Interment will be in Beckwith Cemetery in Colwell.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City. A scripture wake service will be held at 7 p.m., led by Sister Jennifer Rausch. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Benjamin’s services Thursday at the church.

Ben was employed as a machinist at Oliver-White Farm Manufacturing in Charles City for 38 years until the plant’s closing and later worked for Fort Dodge Animal Health Labs in Charles City until retiring in 1999. Ben was known as an extremely hard worker. He had a passion, love and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football, basketball and wrestling teams as well as being big Green Bay Packers fan and enjoying watching tractor pull events. Ben will be remembered as a great practical joker. Some of Ben’s interests and leisure activities included fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation. He passed the time watching his grandson Kenny drive figure 8 cars, Saturday afternoon drives to his daughter and son-in-laws, Pam and Ken Boge in Orchard. He will be best remembered as someone who was thoughtful, loving, kind, caring and being family-oriented. Ben was a member of the V.F.W. in Charles City and the Sportsmen’s Club in Elma.

William Arthur Whitman

William Arthur Whitman, 84 of Banning, Calif., and formerly of Charles City, died on Friday April 21, 2006 from complications following a stroke at his home.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 26, at Desert Lawn Cemetery, Calamesa, Calif., where he was laid to rest beside his wife, Clarice, who passed away on May 23, 1990.
