Nels H. Knutson

Nels H. Knutson, 71, of Charles City, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Dennis Strum will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing “Rock of Ages” and “Amazing Grace.” Dennis Strum will be the soloist singing “Borning Cry” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Burial with full military honors will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with Robert A. Knutson, Roger A. Knutson, Richard A. Knutson, Rodney A. Knutson, Timothy D. Lewis and David S. Engel serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be accorded by the New Hampton American Legion and V.F.W.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services at the church.

Nels Harvey Knutson was born April 29, 1935, the son of Alvie and Alice (Nelson) Knutson at the Elma hospital. He attended Jerico Country School. Nels enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. Following his military service, he was united in marriage to Mary Marvin in Alta Vista. They resided there until 1992 before moving to Charles City. They were married 46 years. Nels retired in 1995, after a life-long career of driving truck.

Nels is survived by his wife Mary; four sons, Robert (Valerie) Knutson of Floyd, Roger Knutson of Alta Vista (special friend Karen Hilsman of New Hampton), Richard (Janine) Knutson of Montrose, Minn., and Rodney (Jennifer) Knutson of New Hampton; two daughters, Renae (David) Engel of New Hampton and Rochelle (Timothy) Lewis of Charles City; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, D. Arlene Richardson.

 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents and youngest daughter Rhonda A. Knutson.

David L. Martin

CEDAR FALLS — David L. Martin. 63, of Cedar Falls died of neuroendocrine cancer at his home on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Heartland Vineyard Church, 1405 Greenhill Rd., Cedar Falls. A gathering will be one hour before service at the church.

David was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Charles City, the son of James and Neva (Reis) Martin. He graduated from Charles City High School, attended Iowa State University for two years and then the University of Iowa for two years, where he received his chemical engineering degree. He married Gwen Lewis in May 1963 and they were later divorced. David married Jan Kittelson on June 21, 1993, in Reno, Nev. He was employed by Iowa Electric (Alliant Energy) in Cedar Rapids for 13 years and then with Cedar Falls Utilities from 1989-2006. David was the Cedar Falls utilities representative for the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities and American Public Power Association.

Survivors include his wife Jan Kittelson of Cedar Falls; three sons, Phillip Martin of Cedar Rapids, Michael Kittelson of Cedar Falls and Kris (Jan) Kittelson of Williamsburg; five daughters, Jennifer Hudson, Leigh (Rick) Dahlem and Elizabeth Hepker, all of Cedar Rapids, and Karla Mackenzie and Kerri (Doug) Karsjens, both of Cedar Falls; 13 granchildren, David and Amanda Hudson, Austin Kittelson, Montana and Marisa MacKenzie, Kody and Klayton Kittelson, Ciara, Korbin and Mia Kittelson, Rachael and Morgan Dahlem and Kit Karsjens; his parents, James and Neva Martin of Charles City; five brothers, Bob (Jan) Martin of Oregon, Wis., Rick (Sandy) Martin of Earlham, Bill (Linda) Martin of San Angelo, Texas, Steve (Jeri) Martin of Altoona, Tom (Kolleen) Martin of Charles City; and one sister, Kathy (Dave) Schultz of Des Moines.

Marcella ‘Marcy’ Henry

Marcella “Marcy” Henry, 68, of Charles City, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral services for Marcy Henry will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gayle Wilcox will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Moose Lake, Minn.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Marcella Agnes Jurek Henry was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Carlton County, Minn., the daughter of Florian and Mary (Gresczyk) Jurek. She graduated from Moose Lake High School in Moose Lake. On Aug. 27, 1960, she was united in marriage to John Henry at St. Paul, Minn. In 1972, they moved to Charles City.

Marcy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and Charles City Women’s Bowling Association. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards and camping. Marcy always looked forward to spending time with her family and friends.

Living family members include her husband, John Henry of Charles City; three children, Deb (Galen) Roberts of Floyd, Kim (Kent) Howe of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Todd (Deb) Henry of Roberts, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Zach and Tyson Roberts, Amanda, Ali and Nathan Howe, and Brady and Gabrielle Henry; three sisters, Regina (Martin) Price, Julie (Chuck) Pfluger and Carol (Rick) Hanson, all of Minnesota; six brothers, Ted (Marilyn) Jurek, Ed (Kathy) Jurek, Benny (Donna) Jurek, Bill (Marge) Jurek, Chet (Gloria) Jurek and Leonard (Betty) Jurek all of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

 
 

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.

Evelyn L. Rausch

NASHUA — Evelyn L. Rausch, 89, of Nashua, died Thursday morning, Nov. 30, 2006, at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Private family services were held Saturday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Burial was at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Evelyn Louise Rausch was born at Liscomb on July 11, 1917, the daughter of William C. and Clara E. (Davis) Miller. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1934.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul K. Rausch on Aug. 17, 1935, in Waterloo. They moved to Nashua in 1942. Evelyn worked at the Nashua post office for 22-1/2 years as the sub-clerk, retiring in 1971.

She is survived by two daughters, Ada Jane (Charles) Jensen of Nashua and Paulette (Lynn) Bonwell of Lansing; one sister, Doris Corrine Smith of Charles City; seven grandchildren, 20 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1989; her father in WWII; her mother and step-father in 1974; and a grandson, Danny Bonwell.

Lois E. Schwartz

Lois E. Schwartz, 74, of Charles City, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lois Schwartz will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. Pastor Laura Hucke will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Highland Home Cemetery at Ledyard.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Lois Elaine Schwartz was born July 12, 1932, the daughter of Walter and Irene (King) Leslie at Bancroft. She graduated from High School in Lakota. On April 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edwin Schwartz at the Methodist church in Lakota. Lois was employed at Sovay Animal Health as a veterinarian technician until retirement in 1993. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship. Her interests included camping, traveling, playing bingo and especially spending time with her friends and family.

Living family members include her husband, Edwin Schwartz of Charles City; two children, Jim (Cindy) Schwartz of Woodland, Mich., and Janice (Chuck) Johnson of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Tad (Sherrie) Schwartz of Charlotte, Mich., Tara (Ben) Black of Laingsburg, Mich., Nathan (Samantha) Schwartz of Charlotte, Mich., Katrina (Josh) Hart of Aurora, Colo., and Brandon Johnson and special friend Sarah of Mason City; two great-grandsons, Thomas and Braedyn Johnson; three step-granddaughters Joheather, Leslie and Jessie Grant, all of Woodland, Mich.; three brother in-laws, Fred (Rose) Schwartz of Morganton, Ga., William Coombs of Fairmont, Minn., and Loran Clayton of Armstrong; five sister in-laws, Erna Doocy of Owatonna, Minn., Lillian (Irvin) Smith of Armstrong, Evelyn (Don) Johnson and Betty (Jim) Smith, all of Swea City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Velma Coombs and Edna Paulson; three brother in-laws, Ervin and Harold Schwartz and Art Doocy; two sister in-laws, Florence Clayton and Marge Schwartz; and one nephew Steven Schwartz.

MASON CITY — Mabel H. Trettin, 91, of 1367 Winnebago Rd., Rockford, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave. Rockford. Officiating will be the Rev. Patricia Shaw. Margie M. Armbruster

Margie M. Armbruster, 84, formerly of 408 18th Ave. in Charles City, Iowa died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

At Margie’s request no formal visitation or funeral services will be held. Cremation has taken place with Cremation Services of North Iowa in Mason City. Scattering of her cremated remains will take place at the Peniel Cemetery in Joy, Ill., at a later date.

Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the Seventh Day Adventist, 110 Hilltop Dr., Charles City, IA 50616.

Margie May Armbruster was born May 25, 1922, in Joy, Ill., to Maurice and Sadie (Thompson) Baker. She received her education in the Joy School System in Illinois. On April 24, 1956 Margie was united in marriage to Richard Allison Armbruster in Charles City,. Following marriage the couple had made their home in Floyd until moving to Charles City in 1957. Margie had lived in Charles City for last 50 years. Throughout her life Margie had been self employed offering her cleaning services for private homes in Charles City and the surrounding area, until retiring in 1984. Margie had been a homemaker, involved with the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Charles City for many years and enjoyed hooking rugs and piecing together jigsaw puzzles to pass the time.

Although Margie and Richard did not have children of their own, the couple enjoyed time spent with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard A. Armbruster on November 11, 1996 and two brothers, Loren and Lytle Baker.

Margaret L. Rohweder

Margaret L. Rohweder, 80, of Charles City, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Colonial Manor in Elma.

Graveside services for Margaret Rohweder will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55450. Pastor Donald Stier of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Hinckley, Minn., will officiate.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday.

Margaret Louise Rohweder was born Feb. 11, 1926, the daughter of James and Beulah (Allee) Newkirk at Jefferson City, Mo. She attended high school at California, Mo. On March 18, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ralph Rohweder in Missouri. Ralph and Margaret remained married until his death in March of 1975. Margaret was employed at Marudas Red Owl in Hinckley, Minn. from 1964-1971, Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Mo., from 1971- 1977 and at Federal Hoffman, in Anoka from 1977 until retirement in 1987. After retirement she enjoyed working at the Hallmark Store in California, Mo. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Hinckley, Minn. Her interests included dancing, flowers, socializing with friends and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Living family members include three daughters, Bonnie Jendro of Camdenton, Mo., Jo (Brad) Schmidt of Hinckley and Janice (Greg) Streich of Charles City; a son, Andy Rohweder and fianc/e Lauren Chartier of Ocala, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Wilma Cornine of Nelson, Mo., Norma Howlett of Oak Grove, Mo., Joan Blankenship of California, Mo., Katie Cooprider of Davenport and Sue Nutt of Sedalia, Mo.; and one brother, Jim Newkirk of Florence, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; a granddaughter, Kacie Streich; one sister, Shirley Volkart; and one brother, Charles Newkirk.

Grace Hippen

WELLSBURG — Grace Hippen, 78, of Wellsburg, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at her home, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice and her family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec.14, at Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, with Pastor Tim Diehl and Pastor Allen McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Ackley. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec, 13, from 5-8 p.m., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, where the family will be present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established. Grace was born Dec. 7, 1928, at home on the farm in rural Holland, the daughter of John and Mary (Van der Werf) Boekhoff Sr. Grace attended country school at Colfax No. 4, rural Wellsburg. On March 21, 1949, Grace was united in marriage to Delbert Hippen at East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley. After their marriage, Delbert and Grace made their home in Wellsburg. Grace worked at Farmers Produce in Wellsburg, candling eggs, and also for Herman Hippen in Wellsburg. She also babysat for several years. Grace did the bookkeeping for Delbert’s business, Hippen Shelling and Grinding, and his feed business as well. Delbert and Grace also mowed the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery and the Faith Presbyterian Church Cemetery for many years.

She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, and was active in their ladies group, Women In The Church. Grace liked to cook and to clean. She enjoyed her garden and camping. She especially enjoyed going to garage sales, shopping and attending craft shows. Grace liked being with her coffee club and going on bus trips. Grace loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Delbert Hippen of Wellsburg; two sons, Craig Hippen and his wife Donna of Charles City and Steve Hippen of Wellsburg; one daughter, Cindy Skramovsky and her husband Michael of Beaman; two grandchildren, Heather Eichenberger and her husband Jeremy of New Hampton and Haley Hippen of West Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Aleah Eichenberger of New Hampton; two sisters, Esther Smith and her husband Dale of Conrad and Marlys Clark of Keokuk; one brother, Arnold Boekhoff and his wife Deloris of Wellsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Jennifer Jean Hippen; eight sisters, Fannie, Anna, Jennie, Ella, Marie, Carrie, Lorine and Evelyn; and eight brothers, Ben, Dirk, Samuel, John Jr.; Ernest, Albert, Lawrence and George; and one infant baby.
