IOWA FALLS—John Edward
Maguire, 77, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at
his home.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30
a.m., on Saturday, June 5, at the St. Mark Catholic Church in
Iowa Falls. Visitation will be one hour before the services at
the church on Saturday. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is
in charge of the arrangements.
John Edward Maguire, was
born on August 14, 1932, in Ayrshire, the son of Hugh and
Bridget (Cahil) Maguire. He graduated from the Ayrshire High
School and the University of Iowa with a business degree. On
December 26, 1955, John was united in marriage to Colleen Coughlon in Fort Dodge. He served in the U.S. Army and was a
member of the St. Mark Catholic Church and the Knights of
Columbus.
John is survived by his
wife, Colleen; two daughters, Nan Maguire Simonetti of St.
Louis Park, Minnesota and Molly Maguire Reek of Lake Geneva,
Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Jonathan and Sara Reek and Murphy
and Riley Simonetti; two brothers, Richard (Dee) Maguire of
Bradenton, Florida and Leo Maguire of Australia; and a sister,
Theresa Thompson of Vancouver, Washington.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Louie and James
Maguire; and five sisters, Mary Eunice, Ruth Baxter, Jean
Montgomery, Lois Hanno and Annie Maguire.

of an automobile accident.

School in Clarion, with Pastor Mike Augsburger
officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

Catherine "Kay" Mullane

IOWA FALLS—Catherine “Kay” Mullane,
formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009, in
Mesa, Arizona.
A graveside Rite of
Committal of her ashes will take place on Saturday, June 12,
in the St. Mark’s Cemetery. Father Paul Baldwin will preside.
The Surls Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Mary Catherine Benedict,
was born in Iowa Falls on July 30, 1920, to Anna (O’Niel)
and Charles Benedict. She was a 1938 graduate of the Iowa Falls
High School and a 1940 graduate of Ellsworth Community
College. She married John E. Franklin in 1942 at Iowa Falls.
When the family furniture business closed in 1961, the
Franklins moved to Cedar Rapids. Kay was the office manager
of the Light Company Employees Credit Union from 1962-1975.
John passed away suddenly in 1967.
She married George Mullane, also an Iowa Falls native, in Blairstown on August
29, 1970. They spent 39 wonderful years together. In 1975,
the couple moved to the Phoenix area where they managed
apartment complexes for 13 years until their retirement.
They moved to The Meadows, Tempe, Arizona, where they enjoyed
the company of many friends and activities for 27 years.
She enjoyed golf, dance,
bridge and her exercise groups. Kay cherished her family and
friends. She had several lasting friendships spanning 80
years from her childhood in Iowa Falls. She always
remembered her roots and returned for class reunions
whenever she was able.
Kay is survived by her
devoted husband, George; her son, Mike Franklin of Tempe,
Arizona; daughter, Barb (Vance) Fuller of Cedar Rapids;
stepsons, Pat (Kathy) Mullane of Marengo and Mike
(Jeanette) Mullane of Portland, Oregon; and grandchildren,
Carrie (Jim) Nachazel of Grundy Center, Lisa Fuller of
Phoenix, Arizona and Riley Mullane of Cedar Rapids.
In addition to her first
husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her
sisters, Genevieve, Margaret and Marian; and one brother,
Hugh.

RADCLIFFE—Mary D. Pencook, 79, of Radcliffe, died on
Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Valley Baptist Medical
Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, June 12, at the St. John’s United Methodist
Church in Radcliffe, with the Rev. Brian McNamara
officiating. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the St. John’s United Methodist
Church or the United Methodist Women. The Boeke Funeral Home
of Radcliffe, was in charge of the arrangements.
On July 31, 1930, Donald
and Marjorie (Johnson) Winterfield were granted a new
addition to their family. They brought home their newest
daughter and naming her Mary Della. Mary attended classes in
the rural school system and later attended the Radcliffe
Public School, where she graduated in 1948. She then
attended AIB. In 1954, she married Roger Earl Pencook and
the two settled in Radcliffe to raise their three children.
Mary worked for the ASCS for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
With her limited free
time, Mary was an active member of the St. John’s United
Methodist Church in Radcliffe. She also enjoyed crocheting
afghans and baby clothes, crafting of all types and playing
cards with her girlfriends.
Mary was preceded in death
by her parents, Donald and Marjorie.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Roger of
Radcliffe; their three sons, Dorrance of Des Moines, Sidney
of Sarasota, Florida and Frank of California; seven
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pat
Ibeling of Ackley.

MT. VERNON, Illinois—Allta
Sherman, 95, of McLeansboro, Illinois, passed away at 7:45
p.m., on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Hamilton Memorial
Hospital in McLeansboro.
The Rev. Robert Sefried
officiated at the graveside services on Monday, June 7, at
the Smith Cemetery near Dale, Illinois, with arrangements by
the Gholson Funeral Home.
Alta was a former resident
of Franklin County, Iowa, where she attended the Geneva High
School and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
She was a school teacher and taught in Iowa and in Hawaii.
She was, among other things, a truck farmer, gardener,
florist and had a great love for plants and flowers. She
also resided in Missouri, Hawaii, Enfield and McLeansboro,
Illinois. In her later years she devoted her time to
writing, charity work and helping others who were unable to
care for themselves.
She was a member of the
St. Peter's Evangelical Church, Geneva, where she married
Alvin Duit. They resided in Iowa and Texas until Alvin's
death in 1970. Alta was a devoted Christian and a very
active member in the church wherever she resided.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Pete and Nellie Thompson of Geneva; by her
first husband, Alvin Duit; second husband, R.C. Sherman; and
by her younger brothers, Elven, Ray and Daryl of Waverly.
She is survived by two
brothers, Kenneth of Ackley and "Ole" of Seal Beach,
California; her daughter, BJ Smith of Reno, Nevada; along
with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

STEAMBOAT ROCK—John
Harms, 93, of Steamboat Rock, died on Friday, June 4, 2010, at
the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were
held on Monday, June 7, at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church in
Steamboat Rock, with Pastor Harrison Lippert officiating.
Burial followed in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. The Creps-Abels
Funeral Home in Eldora, was in charge of the arrangements.
John
was born on a farm near the former town of Abbott, rural
Cleves, the son of William and Kate (Folkerts) Harms. He was
raised and educated in a country school and in April of 1945
was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Kosanke at the First
Baptist Church of Eldora. They made their home near Cleves
where they farmed until John retired at the age of 62.
He was
a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church, the Steamboat
Rock Boat Club and a founding member of the Smokey Ridge
Muzzle-Loader Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and
shooting and was also interested in single-cylinder engines
and the railroad, taking several trips by rail.
John
is survived by a son, Jerili Harms of Iowa Falls; daughter,
Judy Sweezy and husband, Dan of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter,
Kali Ferguson and husband, Ryan; grandson, Mitchell Roth; and
great-granddaughter, Skylar Ferguson.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys on December
7, 1995; an infant daughter, Katy Lu; and sisters, Grace Thoms and Louise Iakes.

Ann Riekena Kasischke, of Eldora, passed away of breast
cancer on Friday, June 4, 2010.
Private family graveside
services will be held at a later date. The Linn's Funeral
Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is caring for Judith and her wishes.
Judith Ann Riekena, was
born on April 20, 1935 at Wellsburg, the daughter of Norma
D. (Peters) and John T. Riekena. On September 20, 1955,
Judith was united in marriage to Martin David Kasischke at
Eldora. To this union two daughters were born, Kim and Tami.
Judith Ann Kasischke, is
survived by her husband, Martin Kasischke of Eldora; her
brother, Donn J. Riekena of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her
daughters, Kim Kasischke and Tami (David McClellan)
Kasischke; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Kacy; and two
great-grandsons, Jaxson and Logen.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, John T. and Norma Riekena; in-laws, Otto and
Martha Kasischke; and her grandparents, Trieno and Alice
Riekena and Ben and Elsie Peters.

Byron D. “Lefty” Hofmeister

CLARION—Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 9, at the
First Lutheran Church in Clarion, for Byron D. “Lefty” Hofmeister, who passed away
on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the
Wright Medical Center in Clarion.
“Lefty” Hofmeister, was
born on July 4, 1926 near Prescott, to Clarence and Mary
(Gibson) Hofmeister. Lefty attended rural school and
graduated from the Prescott High School. Following graduation he
enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific aboard the
USS Randolph aircraft carrier. When he was discharged from
the Navy, he enrolled at Simpson College, where he lettered
in baseball and basketball. He graduated in three years and
then began his career in education, teaching and coaching
first at Murray, then Bridgewater, Greenfield and Iowa
Falls. He attended summer school at Colorado State College
in Greeley and received his master’s degree in
administration, and then became superintendent of schools at
Clearfield.
While at Clearfield he met and married Sonja Boshart on May 12, 1962. Three children were born to this
union, Mark Dean, Beth Ann and Kurt Alan. The family moved
to Lohrville in 1964. During this time Lefty attended summer
school at Iowa State, earning an ed. specialist degree. In
1972, the family moved to Madrid and in 1973 to Clarion,
where Lefty was the superintendent of schools until his
retirement in 1989.
Lefty was a member of the Clarion Lions
Club, the
First Lutheran Church and was instrumental in starting the
first whole-grade sharing program in Iowa, between Clarion
and Goldfield. He was also one of the original members of
the Clarion Foundation For Community Improvement. He was a
member of IASA, AASA and served on various state boards. In
1985, he received the Administrators’ Award for service to
Iowa high school athletics.
Lefty is survived by his
wife of 48 years, Sonja; three children, Mark of Leadville, Colorado,
Beth (Brad) Dedic of Roland and Kurt (Lisa) of Ida Grove;
four grandchildren; eight nephews; one niece; and many
friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; brothers, Dale and Donald; sister, Eva;
sisters-in-law, Laurene and Marge; and brother-in-law, Vernon
Cooper.
The family requests that memorials be given to the
Byron Hofmeister Scholarship Fund, which is being
established, or to the Wright County Hospice. The Ewing Funeral Home
of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.

L. Husted, 80, of Alden, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2010,
at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 11, at the Linn’s
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls, with Michael Mentzer
officiating. A time of visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m.,
on
Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Alden
Cemetery, Alden.
Robert LeRoy Husted, was born
on March 6, 1930
at Confidence, in Wayne County, the son of Hallie Mae
Peters. He attended country school near Confidence. He
served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. On
April 23, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Marcene
Joyce Brinkman at Eagle Grove. To this union two sons were
born, Roger and Rocco. Robert was a heavy equipment operator
with road construction for many years.
He was a member of
the International Union of Operating Engineers (AFL-CIO)
since 1975 and a 60-year member of the American Legion Post
0523, Dows.
Robert L. Husted is survived by his wife, Marcene Husted of Alden; his sons, Roger (Vicki) Husted of
Alden and Rocco (Diane) Husted of Alden; five grandchildren,
Justin Hoelscher of Waverly, Travis Husted of Elkhart, Ryan
Hoelscher of Urbandale, Angela (Michael) Mentzer of Alden
and Joseph (Brenda) Husted of Iowa Falls; and eight
great-grandchildren, Trevor Husted, Olivia Raymond, Colton Mentzer, Caden Mentzer, Amanda King, Anton Reiter, Trey
Husted and Tanner Husted.
He was preceded in death
by his mother, Hallie Peters.

FALLS—Erwin Boeke, 92, formerly of Radcliffe, died on
Monday, June 7, 2010, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, June 10, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa
Falls. Erwin was buried in the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard.
The Boeke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Erwin Henry Boeke, was
born on October 12, 1917 in Hubbard, the son of W.C. and
Augusta (Denker) Boeke. Erwin was raised in Hubbard. He was
confirmed at the St. John's United Church of Christ in
Hubbard. Erwin attended the Hubbard School and graduated
with the class of 1935. After graduation he worked on the
farm as a hired man. He bought the Sinclair gas truck and
worked until he went into the service on March 1, 1942. On
October 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lillian
Girouex in Omaha, Nebraska while he was attending mechanics
school at Fort Crook. He was a member of the 772nd Tank
Destroyer Battalion during World War II. Erwin was stationed
in Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky and
Louisiana. He was overseas and participated in the Battle of
the Belgium Bulge plus two other major battles. He was
honorably discharged on November 17, 1945.
Erwin and Lillian began
farming on his parents' farm southeast of Hubbard on March
1, 1946. Later they moved to the Louis Brunemeier farm and
lived there five years. In 1953, they also farmed a farm
near Ames where the Animal Disease Lab is now. Then in
the spring of 1956, they moved to Radcliffe and lived on the
A.M. Eller farm for five years. Erwin was hired by the Farm
Service Company as a petroleum
salesman and had a farm sale February 8, 1961, at which time
they moved into Radcliffe. In 1993, they sold their house in
Radcliffe and moved into the house next to the Boeke Funeral
Home in Radcliffe and worked for Mark Boeke until 1999.
Erwin and Lillian then moved to Iowa Falls.
Erwin was a member of the
Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls American
Legion, as well as a member and past commander of the
Hubbard and Radcliffe American Legions. He loved to garden,
spending time with his family and his coffee buddies.
Erwin is survived by his
wife, Lillian; one daughter, Lois and son-in-law, Don Jones,
all of Iowa Falls; three sons, Carl Boeke and wife, Deb of
Lakeville, Minnesota, James Boeke and wife, Ina of Cedar
Rapids and Randall Boeke and wife, Connie of Highlands,
Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.

FALLS—Dale W. Duffy, 86, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, June
13, 2010, at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 16, at the First
United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the
Union Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in
charge of the arrangements.
Dale Wallace Duffy, was born on August 7, 1923 in Clemons,
to Benjamin and Bessie Duffy. He spent some of his early
years in Kansas but graduated from the Clemons High School
in 1943, where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball.
Dale was married to Zola Smith of Colo on March 15, 1947, at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Lenox
Manufacturing in Marshalltown after they were married and
then as a hired man for four years in Clemons. Dale and Zola
joined the Ellis Methodist Church when they moved to Iowa
Falls in 1951 to begin farming on their own.
Dale loved his family and
farming. He was a devoted husband to Zola for 63 years and
the beloved father of Randy, Carolyn and Annette;
grandfather to Sherri, Scott, Carisa and Collin; and
great-grandfather to Madison and Lily.
Dale is survived by his wife, Zola; one son and
daughter-in-law, Randy and Judy Duffy of Iowa Falls; a
daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Coy Patton of Poplar
Bluff, Missouri and a daughter, Annette Duffy of Des Moines;
four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Wallace Duffy of Arizona and John Duffy of Marshalltown;
five sisters, LaVerne Huseboe, Luella Poe and Bernadell
Lilly, all of Marshalltown, Helen Stonewall of Peotone,
Illinois and Charlotte Lancaster of Scottsdale, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers,
Clarence Duffy, Glen Duffy (Newton), Marion and Merle Duffy
(both from Marshalltown); and two sisters, Bernadine Duffy
(Clemons) and Pearl Hennis (Marshalltown).

WELLSBURG—Eugene T. Ruter, 81, of Wellsburg, died on Monday,
June 14, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics in Iowa City.
Visitation will be held on
Friday, June 18, from
5-8:00
p.m., at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 1:30 p.m.,
also at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. The Sietsema Funeral
Home of Ackley is in charge of the arrangements.
Eugene was born on April
19, 1929, to Herman and Etta Stoehr Ruter in Shiloh
Township, Grundy County, where he lived and farmed for his
entire life. A 1946 graduate of the Wellsburg Community High
School, Ruter was married to Thelma Okones at the Wellsburg
Reformed Church on November 6, 1952. From 1948 to 1955, he
served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Eugene was formerly deacon
in the Wellsburg Reformed Church and president of the
Wellsburg Community Club. Since 1978, he has sat on the
Grundy County Planning and Zoning Commission and has served
on occasion as its chairman.
Eugene is survived by his
wife, Thelma of Wellsburg; son, Allan and daughter-in-law,
Jill (Mussay) and grandsons, Karl and Edward Ruter, all of
Glenview, Illinois; daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, Michael
Kelly of Iowa City and grandsons, Walter Kelly of Iowa City
and James Kelly of Vinton; sister, Erma and brother-in-law,

ACKLEY—Alvin
Boyenga, 86, of Ackley, passed away on Tuesday, June 15,
2010, at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.
Memorial services were
held on Thursday, June 17, at the United Methodist Church,
Ackley, with inurnment in the East Friesland Cemetery, rural
Ackley. Military honors were provided by the Elliott-Keninger
American Legion Post No. 252, Ackley. The Linn's Funeral
Homes Ackley Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Alvin Boyde Boyenga, was
born on May 3, 1924, the son of Tena [Bleeker] and Edward
Boyenga at the family home in Osceola Township, near
Faulkner. He attended rural a Faulkner Country School
through the fourth grade and then attended and graduated
from the Ackley Community Schools, with the class of 1942.
Alvin served with the U.S. Army during World War II, serving
in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations in Okinawa and
Korea. On August 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to
Esther Louise Van Loh at her parents' home in Ackley. To
this union a daughter, Sharon, was born. Alvin worked for
Ralston Purina, Boyt Manufacturing and the Swift Co., all of
Iowa Falls and then went to work for more than 20 years at
Ackley Foods, Ackley. He also worked for J.M. Hunt and Sons
during harvest season.
He was a former member of
the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, a charter member of
the Faith Presbyterian Church and currently a member of the
United Methodist Church, Ackley. He was also a long-time
member of the Ackley Elliot-Keninger American Legion Post
No. 252.
Alvin Boyenga is survived
by his daughter, Sharon Boyenga of Ackley; two sisters,
Marion Bodecker of Waterloo and Betty (Jim) Wilkens of
Marshalltown; a sister-in-law, Helen Benning of Ackley; and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Edward and Tena Boyenga; his wife, Esther
Boyenga; two brothers, Arlys Boyenga and Edward Boyenga; a
nephew, Greg Boyenga; and a niece, Susan Bristley.

the Rehabilitation Center of Allison, from natural causes.

in Parkersburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the

R. (Olsen) Packard, died peacefully on Friday, June 18,
2010, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Memorial services will
be held on Thursday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the Surls Funeral
Home, Alden, followed by interment in the Alden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the National Alzheimer's
Association.
Ardelle was born on March 29,
1922 in Alden, to Raymond and Anna (Graff) Olsen. She
graduated from the Hamilton Business College in Mason City and
moved to Washington, D.C., to begin her long career with
the federal government. She married Joseph M.
Packard (deceased 1998) and had two daughters, Ann Thomas
and Cathy Licata. In 1991, Ardelle and Joe returned to Mason
City to join her sister, Elva V. Olsen (deceased 2009).
Surviving family includes
Bron (Gail) Thomas of Akron, Ohio; Cathy (Bill) Licata of Santa
Fe, New Mexico; beloved grandsons Bron (Kim) Thomas and Joe
(Jessica) Thomas of Akron and Scott (Alicia) Licata of
Waltham, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Olsen of Alden, Mary
Lou Olsen of Ballwin, Missouri and Maxine Packard of Webster
City; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

RADCLIFFE—Elva Davis, 93,
of Radcliffe, died on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Scenic Manor
in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on
Tuesday, June 22, at the St. John's United Methodist Church in
Radcliffe, with the Revs. Brian McNamara and Rudy Trusheim
officiating. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery.
The Boeke Funeral
Home in Radcliffe, was in charge of the arrangements.
Elva Ruth Davis, was born
on March 9, 1917, on the homestead farm northeast of
Radcliffe, to Elmer and Lydia (Kuhfus) Wykle. She attended
the Sherman #5 Rural School and graduated from the Radcliffe High
School in 1933. On November 23, 1939, Elva was
united in marriage to Claude Davis in Dubuque. They lived
and farmed many years on their farm northwest of Radcliffe,
until moving to town in 1979.
She was a member of
the Evergreen EUB Church until the merger with St. John's
Methodist Church in Radcliffe. Elva loved children and
taught Sunday School for many years and was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother.
Elva is survived by her
five children, Marlene Bailey and husband, Jim of Lockwood,
Missouri, Jean Benham and husband, Doug of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Larry
Davis and Claudia of Radcliffe, Ken Davis and wife, Janet of
Cedar Rapids and Steve Davis and wife, Marcia of Radcliffe;
11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six
sisters-in-law, Esther Wykle of Iowa Falls, Bernice Wykle of
State Center, Wilma Wykle of Radcliffe, Mardell Davis of
Fayette, Pearle Wienke of Rockford, Illinois and Bessie Davis
of Indiana.
Elva was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Claude; brothers, Wendell Wykle,
Carroll Wykle and
Leo Wykle; a sister, Mabel Knight; two granddaughters, April
and Emily; and one great-granddaughter, Emma.

IOWA FALLS—Leonard A. Greiner, 90, of Iowa Falls, Iowa,
passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held on Tuesday, June 22, at the St. Mark Catholic
Church, Iowa Falls, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating.
Burial was in the St. Mark Cemetery, Iowa Falls, with
military honors provided by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion
Post No. 188, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the
Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa or to the St. Mark
Catholic Church, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
Alfred "Leonard" Terence Greiner, was born on March 9, 1920
at Ogilvie, Manitoba, Canada, the son of Margaret [Bohrofen]
and George Alexander Greiner. He graduated from the Hudson,
Iowa, Community Schools. He enlisted in the United States
Army on March 13, 1942 and on November 2, 1943, he was
discharged as a Sergeant so he could reenlist on November 3,
1943, as a First Lieutenant. He served as a pilot during the
Normandy and Southern France and Western Europe Campaigns,
receiving several Battle Participation Credits, the American
Legion Medal for outstanding work, the 1st Bronze Oak Leaf
Cluster to the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. He was
retired on August 29, 1945. On January 30, 1946, Leonard was
united in marriage to Mary Louise Hermann at Roseville,
Iowa. To this union five children were born, Margaret,
James, Steven, Joan and John. The couple farmed northeast of
Alden for many years.
He was a member of the
Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post # 188, Iowa (Past
Commander), also Past Commander of the Hardin County
Contingent of the American Legion, the Highland Golf Club
and former member of the Iowa Falls Kiwanis.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Mary Greiner of Iowa Falls;
his children, James (Barbara) Greiner of Iowa Falls, Steven
(Beverly) Greiner of Ackley and Joan (Randy) Jennings of
Iowa Falls; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Dorothy Pitts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, George and Margaret Greiner; a daughter,
Margaret Louise Greiner and infant son, John Greiner;
brothers, John Greiner, Paul Greiner, Joseph Greiner,
Lawrence Greiner and Raymond Greiner; and sisters, Veronica
Greiner, Eda Sherry, Leona Merfeld and Cathryn Gerhard.

RADCLIFFE—Wayne Stewart, 92, died on Saturday, June 19,
2010, at his home in Radcliffe, surrounded by family,
friends and loved ones.
Memorial services will be
held at the United Church of Christ in Alden, on Saturday,
July 3, at 2:00 p.m.
Born in Fayette on April
10, 1918, Wayne spent his childhood in West Point, Nebraska
earning his B.A. Degree from Nebraska Wesleyan. He served in
World War II as a pilot in CBI and earned the Distinguished
Flying Cross three times. Returning from overseas, Wayne was
united in marriage to Mary Carey and he worked for the Roy
S. Durstine Ad Agency in Manhattan and the Leo Burnett Ad
Agency in Chicago. After being widowed, Wayne married Ruth
Sandfos, a widow with a young daughter, Mary. They then
moved to St. Louis where he worked for Gardner Advertising.
Wanting to return to their
small-town roots, Wayne and Ruth moved to Orange City, where
they ran the Sioux County Capital, the local newspaper, for
over a decade. In 1974, Wayne and Ruth moved to Alden so
Wayne could take a job teaching at Ellsworth Community
College and later serve as advertising director for
Riverside Book and Bible. He retired in 1988. He was widowed
again later that year.
In 1990, Wayne married for
the final time to Dorothy Johnson Muscolo. They resided in
Portland, Oregon, but made frequent trips back to visit
friends and family. Their time together ended in 2000 with
Dorothy's death.
Wayne leaves behind to
celebrate his life a daughter, Dr. Jean (and Chuck) Griesel
of Woodbine and their four sons, Jim (and Tamara) of
Boscobel, Wisconsin, Chad (and Teresa) of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, Rob of Madison, Wisconsin and Dan of Woodbine; a
son, Robert (and Alicia) Stewart and their children, Susana
and Patrick, all of Los Angeles, California; a daughter,
Susan (Brian Weigel) Stewart of Radcliffe; and a daughter,
Jane (and Brian) Bangs of Dows and their children, Kate of
Cedar Rapids, Dana of Washington, Iowa and Nick of Dows; his
brother, Robert (and Dorothy) Stewart of Overland Park,
Kansas; and sister, Joan (and Kent) Johnson of Oakland,
Nebraska. The family Dorothy brought to him included
daughters, Joyce Muscolo and her children, Patrick and
Francesca; Jean Keenan and her sons, Aaron and Jeremy and
husband, Jeffrey Funk; and Estelle Johnston and husband,
Duane and children, Suzanne, Sarah and Darren. Especially
precious additions to the family include Andrew and Rosalie
Griesel, Michael Griesel and Natalie Nelson,
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sisters, Marian Carlton Urban and Verna
Andersen; wives, Mary, Ruth and Dorothy; and daughter, Mary
Morris.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests memorials that will be directed to a charity
of Wayne's choice.

Service at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service. The Surls

Roslynn
Frances Ose, was born on March 19, 1926 in Williams, the
daughter of Benjamin and Mary Ellen (Doyle) Simpson. She
graduated from the Williams High School in 1943 and attended
the Rochester School of Nursing. Roslynn was united in
marriage to Marion Wendell Ose on November 26, 1947 in Webster
City.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Williams, St. Anne's Study Club, American Legion Auxiliary
and had a special passion with the NEH Music Mothers.
Roslynn
is survived by her two sons, Carroll Ose and wife, Judy of Blairsburg and Wendell Ose and wife, Lynda of Reston, Virginia; a
daughter, Maureen Ose and husband, Robert McMaster of
Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law, Enlow Ose and wife, Melena of Sacramento California, Leon Brandt of
Ames and Lawrence Schweppe of Baldwin Park, California.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Marion and six siblings, Everett Simpson,
Kenneth Simpson, Glendola Schweppe, Nona Mae Wickline,
Celeste Ryan and Marjorie McFarlane.

away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Scenic Manor Iowa

Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with burial to follow in the
Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of
visitation will be from 2-4:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the
Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls.
Ethel Mae Eva Rounds, was born on July 9, 1919, at her
parents home in Becker, Minnesota, the daughter of Florence
Dell (McVicker) and Charles Stepford Rounds. She graduated
from the Dows, Iowa Community Schools with the class of
1937. On August 26, 1940, Ethel was united in marriage to
Elwood E. Williams at Mason City, Iowa. The couple came to
Iowa Falls in 1942. She worked 30 years for the Iowa Falls
Community Schools Food Service with most of her time spent
at the Central School.
Ethel was a member of the
First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, including the
United Methodist Women and Sarah Circle and the Iowa Falls
Garden Club.
Ethel Williams is survived by two daughters, Judy (Carroll)
Paulson of Ogden and Linda (Bob) Schelling of Marshalltown;
a son, Larry (Laura) Williams of St. Louis, Missouri; 17
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ileen
Garnsey and Joan King; and 1 brother, Virgil (Christine)
Rounds.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Charles and Florence Rounds; her husband,
Elwood "Shorty" Williams; and a daughter, Carol Newberg.

Theresa Ann Umscheid, was born on August 2, 1942 in
Whittemore, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Anna (Twait)
Bleckwenn. She was united in marriage to George Umscheid on
September 8, 1961 in Sisseton, South Dakota. She was Office
Manager at River Hills Financial in Iowa Falls and was a
member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Theresa is survived by her husband, George; two daughters,
Kim Wilkes and her husband, Ed of Las Vegas, Nevada and Mary
Ann Umscheid and her fiancée, George McGlamery of Bellaire,
Texas; a son, Tom Umscheid and his wife, Melissa of Wheat
Ridge, Colorado; a sister, Eleanor Prentice of New London,
Minnesota and a brother, Virgil Bleckwenn of Cylinder, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters,
Doris Kunz and Donna Baldwin.

FALLS—Dorothy L. Pruyn, 91, of Iowa Falls and formerly of
Hampton and Latimer, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010,
at the Scenic Manor, two days short of her 92nd birthday.
In keeping with Dorothy's
wishes her body has been cremated. There will be a memorial
service at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, July 2, at the First United
Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with inurnment in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls
Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Dorothy Lee Dickenson, was born on July 1, 1918, at her
parent's home in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of John
A. and Anna Joanna (Kuhlman) Dickenson. She graduated from
the Owasa Community Schools with the class of 1935. On April
29, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage to William Lyle
Pruyn at Chillicothe, Missouri. Dorothy worked with Bill in
the funeral business at the Sietsema-Pruyn Funeral Home in
Latimer for many years. She was also a bookkeeper for the
Latimer Grain Company for 16 years and had also worked 8
years for the Fashionette Dress Shop in Hampton.
She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls and was a 52 year
member of the United Church of Christ, Latimer. She was an
avid sports fan, following the Iowa Hawkeye's football and
basketball teams and the Minnesota Vikings.
Surviving Dorothy are two grandchildren, Steven (Jennifer)
Pruyn of Alexandria, Virginia and Traci (Mike) Heidemann of
Lakeville, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren, Anna Corinne
and Claire Frances Pruyn of Alexandria, Virginia, Ashley
Marie, Afton Pruyn and Adam Richard Heidemann of Lakeville,
Minnesota; and a sister, Edna Jean Tillema of Kissimmee,
Florida; daughter-in-law, JoAn Pruyn of Lawrence, Kansas;
and dear friend, Robert Faris of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, John and Joanna Dickenson; her husband, Bill
Pruyn in 1990; her son, Murry John Pruyn in 2003; a sister,
Minnie Leonard; and two brothers, Jack Dickenson and David
Dickenson.

Gregory
Alan Standorf, passed away on Sunday morning, June 27,
2010, at his sister Michelle’s residence in Eldora,
Iowa.
Greg was born on February 14, 1959 in
Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was one of three
children born to Harlan and Karen (Troester) Standorf.
He started school in the McGregor area and then moved to
the Eldora area in his junior high years and finished
his schooling in Eldora. After high school, he joined
the United States Navy and served his country on the USS
Kitty Hawk. He was blessed in life with two children, Alesha
and Wylie.
He was an avid fisherman and arrowhead
hunter and collector.
Those thankful for having shared his
life include his children, Alesha Bartsch of Steamboat
Rock and H. Wylie Simpson of Alden; two sisters,
Michelle Ryan and her husband, Rod of Eldora and Kelly
Standorf of Gilbert, Arizona; nieces, Danielle Butler
and Lacey Wilaby both of Eldora; and special friend,
Sharon Tilkes of Iowa Falls.
Greg was preceded in death by his
parents.
Family and friends are
welcome to join for a memorial celebration of Greg’s life on
Saturday, July 3, from 1-3:00 p.m., at the residence of Rod
and Michelle Ryan in Eldora.

officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m., in the Eldora

William "Bill", was born on
October 1, 1922 in Papillion, Nebraska, the son of William
Sr. and Amanda (Hauschild) Zeeb. On February 25, 1947, Bill
was united in marriage to Leillia Marie Burns in Papillion.
Bill and Leillia moved to the Eldora area in 1952. He was
employed as a janitor for the Eldora High School for 23
years and he had also worked as a farmhand.
Bill was a long-time
member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora and was
currently a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa
Falls. He enjoyed gardening, walking and riding his moped
and was an avid professional wrestling fan.
He is survived by his
wife, Leillia; daughters, Imogene "Jean" Neubauer and
husband, Laurence of Alden and Gloria Jorgensen and husband,
Vance of Iowa Falls; sisters, Elizabeth Wilms of Papillion
and Bernice Davis of Falls City, Nebraska; grandchildren,
Shane (Tracy) Kienzle, Angela Kienzle, Timothy Jorgensen and
Jessica Jorgensen; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Dakota
Kienzle.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, Albert, Louie and Henry Zeeb; and
sisters, Carrie Nielsen, Lena Koke, Lillian Hayes and Frieda
Godsey.
