AREDALE—Marie Davis, 93, of Aredale, passed away on Monday,
February 1, 2010, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in
Hampton.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 6, at the Aredale
United Methodist Church in Aredale, with the Rev. Doug
Tharpe officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery in
Dumont. Friends may call on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until
the service time at the church. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral
Home in Dumont is in charge of the arrangements.

IOWA FALLS—Maxine R. Bach, 87, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 6, at the Church
of the Open Bible, Iowa Falls. Burial will be in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorial contributions may be sent to
the Church of the Open Bible, Iowa Falls, Iowa. The Linn’s
Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the
arrangements.
Maxine Ruth Surls, was
born on December 1, 1922 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of
Charles and Bessie [Rubendall] Surls. She graduated from the
Iowa Falls High School in 1940 and retired in 1986 after a
43-year career as a sales clerk for JC Penney in Iowa Falls.
Maxine was united in marriage to Albert Bach on January 14,
1945 and she and Albert recently celebrated their 65th
wedding anniversary.
Maxine was a longtime
member of the Church of the Open Bible in Iowa Falls, where
she was actively involved as a member of the orchestra and
as a writer and presenter of dramatic readings and comedic
skits. For many years, she presented “A Page from the Old
Scrapbook,” a poem, on the church’s weekly radio broadcast
in Iowa Falls and Webster City.
Maxine is survived by her
husband, Albert Bach of Iowa Falls; one son and his wife,
Randall and Barbara Bach of Vandalia, Ohio; one grandson,
Ryan Bach; one great-granddaughter, Nova Bach; four nephews;
and five nieces.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; five brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Robert,
Raymond and Donald Surls; and one sister, Lucille Emerson.

on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, following a battle with
cancer.

IOWA FALLS-Gertrude Kannegieter, 95, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Heritage Care
Center, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services have been
changed to 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 10, at the
Linn’s Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be one
hour before the services at the funeral chapel. Burial will
be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be
directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, Hampton, Iowa. The
Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the
arrangements.
Gertrude Wientjes, was
born on December 31, 1914 at Austinville, the daughter of
Martin and Jessie [Linkwis] Wientjes. She attended the
Austinville Community Schools. On March 12, 1936, Gertrude
was united in marriage to Philip Kannegieter at Ackley. They
farmed together, retiring in 1968. She then worked for Maid
Rite and several area businesses, cleaning 17 different
offices.
Gertrude is survived by a
nephew, Melvin (Mary) Feldhoff of Hampton; niece, Gertrude
Kohl of Hampton; great-nephew, Jeffry Linn of Alden,
Minnesota; great-niece, Karen (Lee) Jacobs of Alden,
Minnesota; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Jessie and Martin Wientjes; her husband,
Philip Kannegieter; an infant sister and sisters, Gertrude
and Mary Feldhoff; a niece, Doris Linn: and a great-nephew,
Terry Feldhoff.

BALLWIN, Missouri—Loretta C. Belsheim, nee Lehmann, 91, of
Ballwin, Missouri, formerly of O’Fallon, Illinois, born on
April 20, 1918 in Geneva, Iowa and passed away on Friday,
February 5, 2010.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, February 12, at the St. John Lutheran Church,
Ellisville, with Pastor Ron Schuette officiating and
graveside services were held in the O’Fallon City Cemetery,
O’Fallon, Illinois, with Pastor Ron Dickinson officiating.
The Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O’Fallon, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Mrs. Belsheim grew up in
Iowa, attending school in Hampton. Upon graduation, she
continued on earning her nursing degree. She later enrolled
at the Southeast Missouri State University in Cape
Girardeau, Missouri, where she received her B.A. and M.Ed.
Although nursing and teaching were her choices of career,
her true vocation was that of a minister’s wife. For many
years, she supported her husband, the Rev. Harold G.
Belsheim, as he pastored at various locations within the
Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. The Rev. and Mrs. Belsheim
lived in O’Fallon in the mid-1990s, when they relocated to
Ballwin. There, she attended the St. John Lutheran Church in
Ellisville, Missouri, with her daughter, Charlotte.
In addition to her
husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and
Louisa, nee Thies, Lehmann Sr.; brother, John; and sisters,
Lena and Hilda.
Mrs. Belsheim is survived
by her three children, Charlotte (John) Hastings of Ballwin,
Missouri, Harold (Deb) Belsheim of O’Fallon, Illinois and
David (Leslie) Belsheim of St. Charles, Illinois; nine
grandchildren, Elizabeth Hastings, Brian Hastings, Sarah
(Ivan) Acosta, Catherine Belsheim, Ryan Holland, Chad
(Marcie) Holland, Julie (Clayton) Buchner, Jonathan Belsheim
and Michael Belsheim; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke,
Nathan, Peyton and Joy.
Memorial donations in
honor of Mrs. Belsheim are suggested to the Missouri Baptist
Hospice, St. Louis, Missouri.

IOWA FALLS—Mary Bowman, 75, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Friday, February 5, 2010, at the Mission Regional Medical
Center, Mission, Texas, from natural causes.
Funeral services were
held on Saturday, February 13, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel,
Iowa Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in
memory of Mary to the American Heart Association, Des
Moines, Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was
in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Pauline Bowman, was born on January 3,
1935 at Radcliffe, the daughter of Paul and Cletys [Spoor]
Dettbarn and sister to Wilma. Mary graduated from Iowa Falls
Senior High in 1952. She was married to Jack L. Bowman on
July 25, 1952 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Jack and
Mary celebrated 57 years of life together.
She loved cooking for her
family, fishing, dancing, playing cards, golfing,
snowmobiling, socializing and especially the family
get-together at Christmas time. She worked as an officer at
the Metropolitan Federal Bank (Iowa Falls Federal Savings &
Loan) for 29 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement Mary
and Jack spent their summers on Leech Lake, Minnesota and
their winters in Mission, Texas. She enjoyed the visits to
the lake by her children and grandchildren and all of the
dear and special friends she met in Minnesota and Texas.
Mary was preceded in death
by her father, Paul Dettbarn and mother-in-law, Dorothy
Newby.
She is survived by her
husband, Jack Bowman of Iowa Falls; her mother, Cletys Howay
of Iowa Falls; her sister, Wilma and husband, Don Sanders of
Dubuque and their children, Paula, Linda, David and their
families; Mary's children and their families, Doug and Linda
Bowman of Iowa Falls and grandchildren, Ben and Katie and
great-grandchild, Tristen; Kurt and Judy Bowman of Plymouth,
Minnesota and grandchildren, Greg and Laura; Dawn Bowman and
Bud Crosser of Eldora, Linette and Joel Worsfold of Grimes
and grandchildren, Kayla, Mercedes and Nolan.
She will be missed by all.

STORY CITY— John W. Hamilton, 86, of Story City, died on
Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the Bethany Manor in Story
City.
Memorial services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, February 17, at the
Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.
John was born on April 30,
1923 in Plymouth Township, Plymouth County, to John and Loca
Hamilton. He married Jean Gist on June 16, 1945 in Madison,
South Dakota. The couple lived in several Iowa communities,
including rural Sioux City, Greene, Britt, Iowa Falls and
Radcliffe. John worked in the farm implement business and
later sold insurance. The couple had four children, Nancy,
Laura, Timothy and Colleen. Jean died on December 19, 1998.
John eventually became a resident of the Bethany Manor in
Story City, after suffering a massive stroke in June 2004
and lived there for the remainder of his life.
Survivors include three
daughters, Nancy Spiess of Ames, Laura Hamilton of White
Bear Lake, Minnesota and Colleen Hamilton of Ames; one son,
Timothy (Karen) Hamilton of Alburnett; four grandchildren,
Tory (Eva) Spiess and Tanya Spiess of Ames, Jahan Hamilton
of Iowa City and Anjali Hamilton of Alburnett; two
great-grandchildren, Audrey and Katelynne Spiess; and one
sister-in-law, Sylvia Gist of Lamberton, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; wife; brother; two sisters; sister-in-law;
three brothers-in-law; niece; nephew; and son-in-law.

ALDEN—Ellen Balvanz, 78, of Alden, died on Thursday,
February 11, 2010, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in
Ames.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, February 16, at the Alden St. Paul Lutheran
Church, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral
Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Ellen Margaret Balvanz,
was born on January 20, 1932 in rural Radcliffe, the
daughter of Elmer and Olive (Wastun) Dettbarn. She graduated
from the Eldora High School in 1950. On February 20, 1955,
she was united in marriage to Kenneth Balvanz at the St.
Paul’s Lutheran Church in Eldora.
She was a member of the
AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans), American Legion
Auxiliary and the St. Paul’s Lutheran Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her
husband, Kenny; two sons, Jeff Balvanz and his wife, Denise
of Ames and Frank Balvanz and his wife, Kim of Marion; and
10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents.

WILLIAMS—Orpha May Rigter, 80, of Williams, passed away on
Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Bethany Manor in Story
City, where she has lived since August 2006.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, February 18, at the Bethany
Manor Chapel, Story City, followed by burial in the Williams
Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4-7:00 p.m.,
at the United Methodist Church in Williams. A prayer service
will be held following the visitation. The Surls Funeral
Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Orpha
May Rigter, daughter of George and Rickie (Barkema) Olson,
was born on May 4, 1929 in Webster City. She graduated from
the Kamrar High School in 1947 and that summer attended Iowa
Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She eventually became a
country school teacher at the same school she previously
attended. Orpha
married Raymond Rigter on November 24, 1948 in Jewell. They
farmed near Kamrar before moving to Williams in 1960 where
they farmed east of town.
Orpha was a homemaker,
wife, mother, grandmother and a waitress at the I-35
Restaurant for many years. She was an active member of the
United Methodist Church and UMW in Williams. Family was
always most important to Orpha. She was happiest
entertaining in her home and spent many hours decorating for
all the holiday and family celebrations enjoyed there.
She is survived by her
husband, Raymond of Williams; four children, Sandy (Larry)
Swanson of Manchester, Susan (Terry) Doyle of Ames, John
(Sandy) Rigter of Williams and Sally (Randy) Greenfield of
Kamrar; nine grandchildren, Amy Swanson, Jordan Swanson,
Angela (Chris) Hewitt, Alison Doyle, Cale (Amber) Doyle,
Joseph “J.D.” Rigter, Dan Greenfield, Ben Greenfield and
David Greenfield; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Doyle, C.J.,
Carter, Caleigh and Claire Hewitt; four nieces and three
nephews; her brother-in-law, Joel (Joan) Rigter of South
Carolina; and sister-in-law, Elaine (Alvin) VanLangen of
Jewell.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, George and Rickie (Barkema) Olson; her
sisters, Georgia (June)/(Elmer) Timm and Mary Ann Olson; and
two nephews.

IOWA FALLS—Richard W. “Dick” Green, 80, of Iowa Falls,
passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Covenant
Medical Center, Waterloo.
Memorial services were
held on Tuesday, February 16, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel,
Iowa Falls.
Richard Wayne Green, was
born on May 14, 1929 at Eldora, the son of Robert Arlington
and Minnie (Krause) Green. He attended the Eldora Grade
Schools and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with
the class of 1947. Dick worked for Ralston Purina Mills
before entering the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
After the war he returned to work for Purina and then worked
many years at Mike’s for Men Clothing Store, Iowa Falls and
then many years for Reece Construction, Iowa Falls. He was
united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Roth on September 29, 1962
at Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Dick loved to fish and
enjoyed anything outdoors. He enjoyed all kinds of baseball
games, from American Legion Baseball to even the Cubbies.
Dick Green is survived by
his wife, Marilyn Green of Iowa Falls; two daughters, Julie
M. Green of Iowa Falls and Malea M. Green of Waterloo; a
son, Robert W. (Jillian) Green of Waterloo; and five
grandchildren, C. J. Douglas, Peyton Green, Brittany Green,
Ekaze Gordon and Tyrell Gordon.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Minnie and Robert Green; and three sisters,
Hester Brightwell, Lorraine Wood and Janet Van Hove.

her home.

Linda Louise Houser, was
born on December 31, 1960 in Centerville, the daughter of
Lester Lee and Margaret Louise (Henderson) Houser. She
graduated from the Centerville High School with the class of
1977. Linda was a fabricator with County Line Engineering,
Iowa Falls.
She loved being outdoors,
camping, she enjoyed making crafts and sewing, taking long
drives with Randy and being with her family, especially her
grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her
companion of 12 years, Randy Piersol of Iowa Falls; three
daughters, Kimberly Houser of Iowa Falls, Crystal Wallace
(Aaron Bailey) of Iowa Falls and Jennifer Wallace of
Waterloo; five grandchildren, Katelyn Houser, Chase Bailey,
Christopher Wilken, Brookelyn Bailey and Marley Bailey; a
sister, Janie (Ed) Abbott of Cincinnati, Iowa; two brothers,
Gary (Shelly) Houser of Kansas and John (Linda) Houser of
Albia; her step-father, Junior DaVolt of Centerville; and
her sister-in-law, Jeanie Houser of Corydon.
She was preceded in death
by her father, Lee Houser; her mother, Margaret DaVolt; and
a brother, Richard Houser.

SHAWNEE, Kansas—William E. “Bill” Warner, 69, of Shawnee,
Kansas, precious child of God, died on Saturday, February
13, 2010, at the Kansas City Hospice House. His family was
with him.
Memorial services will be
held at the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Prairie
Village, Kansas, on Wednesday, Feb.ruary17, at 10:30 a.m.
Memorial gifts may be given to the church for missions or to
the Kansas City Hospice.
Bill was born on September
11, 1940, to Ruth and Victor Warner and raised on a farm
near Iowa Falls. He attended country school for nine years
and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1958. He
graduated from Parsons College and went on to teach history
at the Fairfield High School. In 1968, he took a job in
computer programming with Hallmark Cards. In 1981, he began
his career as business owner of Contractors Appliance.
Bill was well-known and
loved for his big heart, wry wit and infectious sense of
humor.
He is survived by his wife
of 47 years, DeAnn Brooks Warner; their children, Joy Warner
of Mission, Kansas, Rich Warner and daughter-in-law, Kathe
and grandsons, Christopher and Matthew of Leawood, Kansas.
Surviving Warner brothers are Jack, Bob and David, along
with many other relatives.

natural causes on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Valley
View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, February 16, at the First Presbyterian Church in
Steamboat Rock, with Pastor Bruce Baillie officiating.
Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. The
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the
arrangements.

IOWA FALLS—Jerome Hoffman, 65, of New Providence, died on
Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Memorial services will be
held on Saturday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bethany
Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. Joe’s cremated remains will
be interred in the Hoffman family timber at a later date.
The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard is in charge of the
arrangements.
Jerome “Joe” Paul Hoffman,
was born on September 28, 1944 in Eldora. He was one of
three children born to Paul and Hazel (Cockerham) Hoffman.
He received his education by attending the New Providence
School and graduated high school with the class of 1962.
After high school, Joe attended Military Tech Schools. On
February 25, 1968, Joe married Kathleen “Kathy” Small, at
the Chapel Church in New Providence. He began his military
career on June 16, 1963, by serving in the Navy for four
years, until June 30, 1967. Joe then served in the U.S. Air
Force for eight years and the Iowa National Guard for 11
years. He worked as a mechanical engineer and a quality
assurance manager for Dayco until he retired.
Joe was always a grandpa
first, enjoyed his grandchildren and his family. He enjoyed
spending time with his faithful companion, “Dog.” He was a
member of the Chapel Church and the American Legion in
Eldora and National Rifle Association (NRA).
Those remaining to cherish
his memory include his wife, Kathy of New Providence; his
daughter, Tanya Calef of Steamboat Rock; his son, Kevin and
his wife, Nancy Hoffman of Iowa Falls; four grandchildren,
Katelynn and Brooklynn Calef of Steamboat Rock and Dylan and
Payton Hoffman of Iowa Falls; his sister, Jan Benskin and
husband, Bryan of Ramsey, Minnesota; his brother, Jeff
Hoffman and partner, Jim Lantz of Lincoln, Nebraska;
sister-in-law, Irlanda Helgen and husband, Bill; and his
faithful companion, “Dog.”
Joe was preceded in death
by his parents, Paul and Hazel Hoffman; and his
grandparents, Herman and Rue Hoffman and Clarence and Osie
Cockerham.

HUBBARD—Alvin Klemme, 77, of Hubbard, died on Tuesday,
February 16, 2010, at the Bethany Manor in Story City.

Manor Chapel in Story City. Memorials may be made to the
Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard, Bethany Manor in
Story City, Big Green in Hubbard or the Hubbard Library

Alvin Frederick Klemme, was born to F.H. and Alma (Kix)
Klemme on August 30, 1932. He was baptized in the Zion
United Church of Christ and remained a lifelong member. He
was very proud to be the Sunday School Treasurer at Zion. He
received his education
attending the “Mud Swamp” Grant #6 Rural School for eight
years and then graduated from the Hubbard High School with
the Class of 1952. Alvin lived on the farm and farmed with
his father and brother until his diabetes forced him to give
it up. He moved with his parents into town in 1962.
He loved to garden and
take care of flowers. Alvin liked to be helpful and had a
number of places that he liked to be, including John’s DX
and the Midwest Vet Clinic. At the Vet Clinic, he loved
helping with small chores and being around the animals.
He entered Bethany Manor
in 2004 and called it HOME. He enjoyed doing puzzles and
helping in the dining room. He was so happy at the Manor and
thought so much of the staff and everyone involved with the
facility.
In passing, he will join
his parents; and a sister, Margaret Lundt.
He leaves one brother, Ray
and his wife, Janie of Hubbard; and brother-in-law, Paul
Lundt of Gladbrook; along with three nieces, two nephews, 10
great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew.

ALDEN—Jeanette Celia Zoske, 72, of Alden, died on Sunday,
February 21, 2010, at her home in Alden.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, February 24, at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the
Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in
charge of the arrangements.
Jeanette Celia Zoske, was
born on April 4, 1937 in Dodge Center, Minnesota, the
daughter of Lewis and Marjorie (Gibbons) Harding. She
graduated from the Popejoy High School in 1955 and then
attended Ellsworth Community College. On January 29, 1966 in
Iowa Falls, Jeanette was united in marriage to Richard Zoske.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa
Falls. Jeanette worked at Farmland Foods and then the Alden
School where she retired in 2008.
She is survived by three
sons, John and wife, Donna, Dan and wife, Traci and Kurt and
a special friend, Robin, all of Alden; five grandchildren,
Kari and husband, Joe Scholte, Loni and husband, Thomas
Petersen, Jeremy Zoske, Krista Zoske and fiancée, Steve
Terlouw and Amber Zoske; four great-grandchildren, Brenna
and Dalton Petersen and Gabriella and Olivia Scholte; two
brothers, Larry Harding of Hawaii and James Harding of
Hampton; three sisters, Colleen Bahr of Buckeye, Patricia
Johansen of Hampton and Kathleen Dohrmann of Hampton; a
sister-in-law, Barbara Hagie of Clarion; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Richard; and parents, Lewis and Marjorie
Harding.

IOWA FALLS—Rocky Woods, 54, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Monday, February 22, 2010, at his home.
Memorial services were
held on Friday, February 26, at the First United Methodist
Church, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls
Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be
left to the discretion of the family.
Rocky was born on August
11, 1955 in Iowa Falls, the son of Lawrence "Woody" and Ilo
"Ike" Woods. His childhood was spent in Iowa and Montana and
provided him with many fond memories, developing his love
for nature. He celebrated his graduation from the Iowa Falls
High School in 1973 with a memorable road trip with friends,
taking in the beauty of Colorado and the California Redwood
Forest. In 1979, he married Camille Gray and soon after
their daughter, Megan Marie, was born. A son, Joshua Cole,
followed in 1981.
Rocky was passionate about
“the small things” and never failed to appreciate the beauty
of nature. He often “wore his heart on his sleeve” and was
well-known in his community for his kind and selfless
nature. He loved American history, music, long walks with
his dog and most of all, his children. A day never passed
without Rocky telling his children how much he loved them;
they will miss him terribly. He was also an avid collector
of model cars and has left an impressive collection in his
memory.
Rocky was preceded in
death by his mother, Ilo; and his very special friend, Beth
Bolton.
He is survived by his two
children, Megan Marie (Dan) Kelly of Lewisville, Texas and
Joshua Cole Woods of Chandler, Arizona; granddaughter, Mary
Katherine Kelly of Lewisville, Texas; his father, Lawrence
Woods of Iowa Falls; sisters, Darcie Mead of Ankeny and
Penny Woods of Des Moines; brother, Rick (Judy) Woods of
Iowa Falls; and ex-wife, Camille Woods of Chandler, Arizona.

WILLIAMS—Vivian Jean Heiden, 87, of Williams, died on
Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Hamilton Hospital in
Webster City, under the care of the Hamilton County Public
Health and Hospice.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, February 27, at the Vernon
Lutheran Church in rural Dows, with Pastor Glenn Kappelmann
officiating. Burial will be in the Vernon Township Cemetery
in Wright County. The Boman Funeral Home of Webster City is
in charge of the arrangements.
Vivian was born on
September 22, 1922, to Lloyd and Olive Lauer Sweedler in
Williams Township of Hamilton County. She graduated from the
Williams No. Three Rural School and the Williams High
School, class of 1940. Vivian married Herbert Otto Heiden on
March 12, 1950, at her parents’ home.
She was a member of the
Williams Methodist Church, until she joined the Vernon
Lutheran Church, after her marriage to Herbert. Through the
years Vivian served on the VLC Council as President,
Secretary and Treasurer. She was very active in the VLCW.
Vivian was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening and
chickens. She was a member of the Thursday Tea Club.
Survivors include son and
daughter-in-law, Roger and Janice Kay Patten Heiden of
Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Arlene
Sweedler of Williams; sister-in-law, Doris Heiden of Alden;
and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents and husband,
preceded her in death.

ELDORA—Carroll Hobson, of Eldora, passed away on Tuesday,
February 23, 2010, at the University Hospitals, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 27, at the First
Congregational United Church of Christ, Iowa Falls. Burial
will be in the Eldora City Cemetery, Eldora, with military
honors provided by the Eldora American Legion and Veterans
of Foreign Wars. The Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls Chapel
is in charge of the arrangements.
Carroll J. Hobson, was
born on January 27, 1921 at Clemons, the son of Pleasant
Ellis and Rosa Della (Brindle) Hobson. He graduated from the
Eldora High School with the class of 1938 and attended Iowa
State University. He served with the U.S. Army during World
War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. On
November 15, 1942, Carroll was united in marriage to
Catharine E. Corlett at Eldora. To this union four children
were born, Brian, Mark and twins, Maurice and Maureen. The
couple farmed north of Eldora for many years.
He was a 65-year member of
the Walter-Sayer American Legion Post No. 182, Eldora.
Carroll Hobson is survived
by his children, Brian A. (Wanda) Hobson of Eldora, Mark E.
(Janey) of Eldora, Maurice E. (Leslie) of Whitten and
Maureen H. (John) Allan of Iowa Falls; nine grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Ron) Holm of
Sarasota, Florida and Betty (Pete) Kearns of St. Petersburg,
Florida; and three brothers, Robert (Mary Lou) Hobson of
Hillman, Minnesota, John (Lola) Hobson of Danville and Bill
(Diane) Hobson of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Rosa and Pleasant Hobson; his wife,
Catharine E. Hobson; a grandson, Jacob Hobson; and an infant
sister, Dorothy Hobson.

WEST DES MOINES—Iris E. Wright journeyed to heaven on
Monday, December 28, 2009, to be with God and her family and
friends who have preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 27, at the
McLaren’s Chapel in the Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.
Her ashes will be spread in the Black Hills and Gulf of
Mexico next summer. Visitation with the family will be one
hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Kavanagh
House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
Iris was born on February
23, 1943 in Sibley, the daughter of Frederick Joseph and
Irene (Schaa) Vaupel. Iris worked at the Wolfe Eye Clinic in
West Des Moines for the last 10 years and enjoyed the work
and the many friends she had there.
Iris especially loved
spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved
working in her flower and tomato gardens.
She always had a ready smile and was very
encouraging and an inspiration to all who knew her –
especially her husband, Dick and sons, Rick and Steve.
Iris is survived by her
loving husband of 45 years, Dick; and sons, Rick (Paula) and
Steve (Laura), who loved and cherished their mother; four
grandchildren, Max, Ian, Lilly and Maggie; nine nephews and
nieces; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many
cousins.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Irene and Fred Vaupel; and two sisters, Kay
Barbee of Tucson, Arizona and Nina Werdal of Minneapolis,
Minnesota.
