December 2, 2009

IOWA FALLS—Walking in faith with God and not by sight, Betty Jean Jacobson entered into eternal life in Heaven with God, on Thursday, November 26, 2009, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, November 29, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 1, at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. At age 8, following the death of her mother, the Depression in place and her father’s inability to both work and care for his large family of eight children, Betty would live in different homes with either her sister, Mrs. Lela (Mel) Clark, or various friends. She promised God then, if He would help see her through these difficult times, she would vow to be the best person, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she would proclaim God’s love for a lifetime. She was a faithful servant until her last breath.

Betty and Al were married on December 21, 1941. Four months later, Al left to fight in World War II and they would be separated for nearly four years. Betty became “Rosie the Riveter” at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle working primarily on B-17s and 19s for the war. Following his return from Europe, they returned to Eagle Grove and, together, built a thriving business known as Jacobson Construction. Many homes, churches and farm buildings were built or remodeled. Betty moved to the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls, in 2006.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 1996; her granddaughter, Christine Ann Butt; her seven siblings, Edith (Francis) Johnson, twins, Lela (Mel) Clark and Lola Bernard, Earl Losee, twins Laverne (Evelyn) and Vernon Losee and Evelyn Waitek; and many nieces and nephews who called her Mother or aunt. Betty was preceded in death by all of her in-law sisters and brothers.

Celebrating her life with wonderful memories include her son, John (Nancy) Jacobson of Eagle Grove; and daughter, Sandi (Ken) Butt of Ackley; five grandchildren, Kevin and Honoria Butt, Kristin (Butt) and Ole Cleveland, Carrie (Butt) and Darren Kube, Brad and Julie Jacobson and Jennifer Jacobson and Terry Steig. Seven great-grandchildren called her Nana and they are, Espen, Finn and Soren Cleveland, Victoria and Olivia Butt and Hailey and Wilken Kube. She is also survived by “sisters” Mabel Odland, Eleanor and Bev Jacobson.

Several Samuel and Bethany Lutheran church friends, Hospice, friends, and Heritage Care Center staff so lovingly cared for her. May Betty’s legacy of promising God that she would be the “best servant of God” live in all of us.
