PORT RICHEY, Florida—Marion Hayden, 88, of Port Richey,
Florida, passed away at his home in Florida, on Sunday,
February 1, 2009.
A celebration of his life
will be held at the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church on
Saturday, February 21, with Pastor Jerry Nordsieck
officiating. His ashes will be interred in the Berlin
Cemetery sometime this following summer. Memorials may be
directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Williams, Iowa
or to the Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church, New Port Richey,
Florida. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is
assisting the family with the arrangements.
Marion Hayden, was born on
April 9, 1920 at Filer, Idaho, the son of Elva Mae
(Lockwood) and Lester McKinley Hayden. He was a descendent
of Wallen Hayden who settled in Jackson Township, Hardin
County, Iowa, in 1854 among the pioneers. At the age of 2,
after the death of his mother, he was lovingly raised by his
aunt and uncle, Clair (Hayden) and Ernest Frisbie in Hardin
County. He was educated locally and graduated from the Alden
High School. On April 13, 1940, he eloped to Missouri with
Geneva Matilda Neubauer. He was employed by the Iowa
Department of Transportation for 36 years and retired as a
supervisor for them in Hamilton County.
Marion liked to hunt and
fish. His gardens always provided enough to share. He always
enjoyed a good game of cards, bingo and coffee with his
buddies.
Marion is survived by his
wife, Geneva; his two daughters, Theone (Pete) Emslie of
Port Richey, Florida and Sara Hayden of Hudson, Florida; two
grandsons, Justin Kennison of Pinellas Park, Florida and
Thomas Kennison of Longwood, Florida; a step-grandson, K.
Gordon (Shannon) Emslie of Fort Collins, Colorado; four
great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three
half-brothers, Wayne Hayden, Dennis Hayden and Dick Hayden;
a special sister, Gladys (Frisbie) Merklin of Iowa Falls; a
special daughter, Darcy Schriever; and a special
granddaughter, Lori Kennison. His high school buddies,
Clifton Nelson, Kenneth Barhite and Mervel Wood, also
survive.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his brother, Russell Hayden; and his sister,
Agnes (Hayden) Jackson; his half-brothers, Robert Hayden who
was killed in Vietnam and Tom Hayden; as well as the parents
who raised him, Clair (Hayden) and Ernest Frisbie; and his
special brother, Kenneth Frisbie.

Avis Maxine Murray, 69, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Monday, February 2, 2009, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, February 6, at the Bethany
Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Brian King
officiating. Burial will be in the union Cemetery, Iowa
Falls. A time of visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on
Thursday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s
Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is assisting the family with
the arrangements.
Avis Maxine Knode, was
born on February 19, 1939 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of
Harley Harvey and Gleneva [Waldo] Knode. She attended the
Iowa Falls Community Schools. On May 21, 1960, Avis was
united in marriage to Ralph Eugene Murray at the Little
Brown Church, Nashua. Avis was a homemaker, mother and
grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Bethany
Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls.
Avis is survived by her
daughters, Eunice Pearson of Des Moines and Glenda Carroll
of Marion; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one
brother, Francis (Sharon) Knode of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Harley and Gleneva Knode; her husband, Ralph
Murray in 2004; two sons, Ralph Jr. in 1961 and Daniel in
1997; one great-granddaughter, Sidney Marsh; two brothers,
Harvey Knode and Donald Knode; and one sister, Phyllis
Ramsey.

February 5, 2009, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital
Long-Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, February 9, at the St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, with Pastor Gary
Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, at

IOWA FALLS—Dean E. Miller, 89, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Saturday, February 7, 2009, after a lengthy hospitalization
at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 12, at the First
Church of God, Iowa Falls, with burial in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m.,
on Wednesday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls.
Dean E. Miller, was born
on April 24, 1919 in rural Eldora, to Glen and Ruth Miller.
He graduated in 1938 from the Eldora High School. Second Lt.
Dean Miller served his country in World War II as the
co-pilot of the B-24 Liberator Maraje. He was stationed in
Norich, England, Second Air Division. Dean was united in
marriage to Dorothy Poland on August 16, 1958, at the First
Christian Church, Hampton. To this union were born two
children, Debra and Janet. Dean worked for the U.S. Soil
Conservation Commission for 32 years in Hardin County. An
expert in his field, he designed farm drainage projects.
During this time he also farmed east of Iowa Falls on the
family farm. Following retirement from the federal
government, he continued to engineer farm drainage projects
for McDowell and Sons Contractors.
Dean is survived by his
wife, Dorothy; and daughters, Debra (Thomas) Lavalle of
Trumbull, Connecticut and Janet Miller of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Glen and Ruth Miller; older brother, Myles
Miller; and younger brothers, Glenn and Dale Miller.

BLOOMINGTON, Minnesota—Eldora "Myrt" Sanders, 76, of
Bloomington, Minnesota, died on Sunday February 8, 2009,
after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Memorial Mass,
officiated by Fr. Mike Tegeder, was held on Thursday,
February 12, at the St. Edward’s Catholic Church,
Bloomington, Minnesota. Internment was on Saturday, February
14, in the St. Clotilde’s Cemetery in Green Valley,
Minnesota. A memorial fund to St. Edward’s Church has been
established.
She was an Iowa Falls
resident from 1966-1974. Eldora was a talented gardener, an
active volunteer at the St. Edward’s Church in Bloomington
and an avid bridge player, treasuring all her wonderful
friends there and in the old Sunset neighborhood. She leaves
behind a vast legacy of kindness and love, and was an
inspiration to many.
Eldora is survived by her
loving husband, Gordon; her children, Mike (Cindy) Sanders
of Marshall, Minnesota, Carol (David) Hall of Appleton,
Wisconsin and Greg (Amy) Sanders of Lakeville, Minnesota;
nine grandchildren; and sister, Irene Westphal.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; two brothers; and a brother-in-law.

ELDORA—Mildred Clampitt, 96, died on Monday, February 9,
2009, at the Valley View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in
Eldora.
Mildred Clampitt’s
cremated remains will be interred during a family committal
service at the Honey Creek Cemetery prior to the service.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 14, at
1:30 p.m., at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church
in New Providence. A time of refreshment and fellowship will
be held following the memorial service. The Boeke Funeral
Home of Hubbard is in charge of the the arrangements.

ACKLEY—The. Rev. Raleigh J. Gordon, 84, of Ackley, passed
away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Altoona Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona.
Memorial services were
held on Friday, February 13, at the First Baptist Church,
Iowa Falls, with the Rev. David Schwechel officiating.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Kelliher
Cemetery, Washkish, Minnesota. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel has been entrusted by the family with the
arrangements.
Raleigh Junior Gordon, was
born on August 2, 1924, at Watertown, South Dakota, the son
of Lucy [Glidden] and Raleigh Gordon. He attended the
Watertown Community Schools, graduating with the class of
1942. Raleigh then attended Northwestern Bible School in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, but interrupted his education to
enlist in the U.S. Navy on October 30, 1943. He served in
the 32nd Construction Battalion base out of Davisville,
Rhode Island. He was discharged on May 24, 1946, and resumed
his education. He graduated from the Northwestern Bible
School and the Bethel Bible College Seminary. On June 7,
1948, Raleigh was united in marriage to Thora M. Nordrum at
Washkish, Minnesota.
Raleigh was a minister and
interim minister for numerous churches in the American
Baptist Assembly. His last church pulpit was the First
Baptist Church, Iowa Falls. Raleigh was a member of the
American Baptist Minister’s Association, Boy Scouts of
America and the American Legion. He was a great supporter of
the Boy Scouts of America Campus Crusade, loved to read his
Bible, golf, and spend time with his grandkids and
great-grandkids.
The Rev. Raleigh Gordon is
survived by his children, Stanley Gordon of Shakopee,
Minnesota and Charles Gordon of Ackley; 14 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Melvin) Weide
of Watertown, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Raleigh and Lucy Gordon; his wife, Thora
Gordon; and two brothers, Wayne Gordon and Donald Gordon.

HAMPTON—Mackenzie L. Blandau, 25, of Hampton, formerly of
Eldora, died as a result of a fire in Hampton on Saturday,
February 14, 2009.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, February 20, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in
Eldora, with Pastor Mary Stonebraker officiating. Burial
followed in the Eldora City Cemetery.
Mackenzie Lynae Blandau,
was born on May 16, 1983 in Fort Dodge, daughter of Michael
and Connie (Koch) Blandau. They lived in Holiday, Florida,
where Mackenzie attended school through the third grade,
moving to Eldora the summer of 1994. She graduated from the
Eldora-New Providence High School with the class of 2002.
Mackenzie had been living in Hampton the past few years
where she was working as a certified day care provider and
her greatest joy came from the children she cared for with
love.
She is survived by her
2-year-old son, Carlos Dean Blandau; parents, Mike and
Connie Blandau of Eldora; brother, Adam Blackstock of
Marshalltown; sister, Serena Blackstock of Marshalltown;
paternal grandmother, Hazel Nordyke of Eldora; and maternal
grandfather, Duane Koch of Eldora.
She was preceded in death
by her paternal grandfathers, Ronald Blandau and Duke
Nordyke; maternal grandmother, Lorraine Koch; and cousins,
Tanner Ackerson and Derrick Sanders.

Hampton
Fire Claims Two Lives
February 18, 2009
An adult and one toddler died on Saturday in a fire
at an apartment complex in Hampton.
According to
information released by the Hampton Police
Department, the report of a fire was received via a
911 call at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday. The building,
a large house that was divided into apartments, is
located at 319 First Ave. SE.
The Hampton Police
and Fire departments responded and were assisted at
the scene by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office,
Franklin General Ambulance and the State Fire
Marshall's Office.
The victims were
identified this week as 25-year-old Mackenzie
Blandau and 22-month-old Luis Alonzo-Garcia. The
police department reported there were also four
injuries, including one that was suffered by a
firefighter on scene.
The American Red
Cross is assisting the apartment complex’s displaced
families.
The investigation
into the cause of the fire is continuing.

IOWA FALLS—Shirley Lawton, 84, of Iowa Falls, died on
Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Heritage Care Center in
Iowa Falls.
Memorial services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 21, at the First
United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with inurnment at a
later date. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in
charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund has been
established and will be donated to animal shelters.
Shirley Lawton, was born
on February 7, 1925 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Harold
and Susan (Wuebben) Stringer. She graduated from the Iowa
Falls High School in 1943. On March 19, 1944, Shirley was
united in marriage to the love of her life, Harold N. Lawton
of Alden. They were married 65 years! Shirley directed the
Presbyterian Church Choir at Rolfe for 13 years while
residing in that community. In 1963, the family moved to
Creston. Mrs. Lawton became district chairman of the
Moingona Girl Scout Council of Des Moines. She was secretary
to the vice principal of the Creston High School, Creston,
for many years.
Shirley and Bud moved to
Atlantic in 1968. Shirley became secretary to the vice
principal and athletic director at the Atlantic High School.
Shirley was president of the Atlantic Iowa Golf and Country
Club Women’s Association. She directed the Iowa Women’s Golf
Association tournament “Forever 39” held in Atlantic. Mrs.
Lawton retired as Cass County judge in Atlantic in 1984
after serving in that capacity for 5 1⁄2 years.
She received the Freedom
Foundation Award in 1984 as she had developed an
Intervention Program as judge, regarding juveniles charged
as minors in possession of beer. She developed this program
after eight high school boys died in a car accident and beer
was found in their car. This program went into effect in
several locations in Iowa. Following retirement in 1984, she
then moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas with her husband, Bud.
She was a member of the
Fairfield Bay Indian Hills Golf Club, Fairfield Bay Log
Cabin Museum, United States Golf Association and the
Fairfield Bay Animal Protection League where she
volunteered.
Mourning her loss and
celebrating her life are her husband, Harold N. "Bud" of
Iowa Falls; two daughters, Susan Stock of Webster City and
grandchildren, Marina and David Stock, Michael and Michelle
Stock and Matthew and Karol Stock, and Katherine Van Horn
and Steven of Algonquin, Illinois and grandchildren,
Kristofer Van Horn and Jamie, Sigourney (Van Horn) Guilford
and Troy; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Van Horn, Preston
Stock and Pierce Stock; and her constant companion and
four-legged pal, Pippen.
Mrs. Lawton was preceded
in death by her parents.

ALDEN—Edna Nicholson, 86, of Alden, died on Friday, February
20, 2009, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

on Monday, February 23, at the Immanuel Memorial United
Church of Christ in Alden, with burial in the Alden
Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of
the arrangements.
Edna was born on April 27,
1922, on a farm near Buckeye, the daughter of Frank and Eda
(Runge) Bessman. She was united in marriage to George
Nicholson on November 4, 1941 in Osage. Edna sold Avon for
many years and baby-sat for many children. She was a member
of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden
and was active in the VFW Auxiliary.
Edna is survived by her
son, Duane and wife, Kay of Alden; one grandson, Jeffrey
Nicholson and wife, Anita of Iowa City; two granddaughters,
Julie Reynolds and husband, Robert of Iowa Falls and
Jennifer Sievers and husband, Jeff of Norwalk; seven
great-grandchildren, John and Shane Nicholson, Kassi, Shelby
and Parker Reynolds and Abigale and Trey Sievers; two
sisters, Martha Hetland of Radcliffe and Erma Burke of
Bentonville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband; four sisters; and six brothers.

AMES—David R. Hornung, 66, of Ames, passed away on Sunday,
February 22, 2009, at the Select Specialty Hospital,
Gulfport, Mississippi.

officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa

David Ralph Hornung, was
born on August 10, 1942 at Hubbard, the son of Grace E.
(King) and Ralph G. Hornung. He attended the Alden and Iowa
Falls Community Schools. David served several tours with the
U.S. Army. David was an over-the-road truck driver for
Roadway for more than 30 years.
David is survived by his
wife, Erin L. (Eggers) Hornung of Ames; his children, Kelly
Hornung of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Kimberly Weddle of
Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, Elaina Hornung of Pass
Christian and Ben (Missy) Hornung of Diamond Head,
Mississippi; one granddaughter, Ruby Hornung of Pass
Christian; his mother, Grace Hornung of Iowa Falls; his
sister, Connie (Bill) Anderson of Pass Christian; and his
brother, Ronald (Kathleen) Hornung of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death

ELDORA—Timothy Lee Hoekstra, 60, of Eldora, died at his home
on Friday, February 27, 2009.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, March 4, at the
Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with Pastor Ward
Richards officiating. Per Tim’s wishes, cremations will take
place following the service, with burial at a later date.
Tim Hoekstra, was born on
March 23, 1948 in Eldora, the son of Wendell and Margaret
Hoekstra. He attended school in Wellsburg, graduating from
the Wellsburg High School in 1966. On August 16, 1969, Tim
was united in marriage to Cindy Gavin in St. Marys, Iowa.
Tim worked for the State Training School for 13 years as a
vocational instructor. He later became self-employed in the
construction business till health reasons forced him to
retire.
Tim loved the outdoors,
especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time
with his family and friends.
Tim is survived by his
wife, Cindy of Eldora; sons, Jon and wife, Amy of Tulsa,
Oklahoma and Jason and wife, Joanna of Phoenixville,
Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Ben
Hoekstra of Iowa Falls and Allan Hoekstra of Coconut Beach,
Florida.
Preceding him in death was
his mother.

Minnie Arlene Ghoske, was
born on October 4, 1931 in Wellsburg, the daughter of Peter
and Gladys (Wolf) Borchers. She graduated from the Iowa
Falls High School. On December 12, 1953, Arlene was united
in marriage to Robert Ghoske in Ackley. She was a member of
the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa
Falls.
Arlene is survived by her
husband, Robert; a daughter, Ann R. Ghoske of Cedar Rapids;
a son, Allen D. Ghoske of Iowa Falls; a brother, Albert
Borchers of Ackley; and a sister-in-law, Ann Borchers of
Waterloo.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a brother, Russell Borchers; and a
sister-in-law, Gertrude Borchers.

HAMPTON—Marion A. Kreimeyer, 94, of Hampton, died on
Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the Franklin General
Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 4, at the St.
Peter’s United Church of Christ, rural Geneva, with burial
in the church cemetery. The Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley
is in charge of the arrangements.
Marion Augusta Kreimeyer,
was born on July 18, 1914 in Ackley, the daughter of George
and Rose (Hackrott) Van Eschen. She was united in marriage
to John Richard Kreimeyer on July 29, 1935, at St. John’s
United Church of Christ in Ackley. John and Marion farmed
the family farm in rural Geneva until their retirement, at
which time they moved into Geneva.
Marion was a member of the
St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in rural Geneva where
she enjoyed participating in Women’s Fellowship, taught
Sunday School, sang in choir as well as doing solos and
small group vocals. She was a 4-H Leader, participated in
many Farm Bureau activities and was a member of the Franklin
County Historical Society. Most of all she will be
especially remembered for her homemade bread which she made
for family gatherings and friends.
Marion is survived by her
daughter, Rita Diemer of Geneva; a son, Ronald Kreimeyer of
Geneva; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Margaret
Burmester of Hampton; and a brother-in-law, Victor Kreimeyer
and wife, Roxa of Quincy, Washington.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, John in 1992; a sister, Letha
Coordes; and a brother, George Van Eschen.
