Investigation Continues Into Fatal Plane Crash
Sara Konrad
July 8, 2009
LATIMER—One person was killed last week in a plane
crash in Franklin County that’s being investigated
by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The plane — a
single-engine Cessna 172 — was being piloted by
44-year-old David Colglazier, of Latimer. Colglazier
was the only occupant when the plane went down on
County Highway C25, northwest of Hampton, near Lark
Avenue, at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3.
The Franklin
County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Aviation
Administration have been in charge of the crash
investigation. Media reports indicate Colgazier’s
plane may have struck power lines, either before
crashing or as the plane was headed toward the
ground.
Elizabeth Isham
Cory, a public affairs official for the FAA, said
NTSB is leading the investigation and will issue a
final report on its findings. Todd Fox, the NTSB
official in charge of the investigation, said his
agency gets its information from the FAA and uses it
to write a report. He said the investigation is
ongoing and he expects a preliminary report will be
made public later this week, while a final report
will likely take about nine months to complete.
By law, the NTSB
is responsible for determining the probable cause of
an accident, Isham Cory said. The NTSB is the only
agency authorized to comment on an investigation.

July 30, 2009, at her home.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, August 3, at the Zion United
Church of Christ in Hubbard. Burial will be in the Hubbard
Cemetery. Friends may call at the Boeke Funeral Home in
Hubbard on Sunday, August 2, from 2-6:00 p.m. Memorials may
be given to the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard and
Homeward Hospice Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Dianne Marie Mannetter,
was born on September 18, 1951 at Marshalltown, to Earl
(Tony) and Virginia (DuToit) Edel. She was baptized and
confirmed at the St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Zearing. She
graduated from the NESCO High School, Zearing, in 1969 and
from Ellsworth Junior College, Iowa Falls, in 1971. After
graduation she joined the FBI working as a stenographer in
Omaha, Nebraska and Cedar Rapids. On November 25, 1978,
Dianne was united in marriage to Steven Merrill Mannetter at
the Zion United Church of Christ, Hubbard. From this union
two daughters, Melissa and Sarah, were born. They moved to
the home place in 1984 when Steve’s parents moved to town.
She joined the Zion UCC
shortly after she and Steve married. She taught Sunday
School, served on various committees and the Zion Church
Council.
Dianne took great joy in
supporting her daughters’ activities and all they
participated in. She loved the slumber parties as much as
the girls and their friends did and loved cooking for them.
She took great pride in being a mother and a farmwife. She
found the beauty each season brought, but her favorite was
the harvest when she could work side by side with Steve
every day. Her favorite pastime was making quilts, all
hand-quilted. Her favorite creature was the butterfly.
Dianne loved life on the
farm and always said it was a great place to raise children.
She loved taking care of her family, her home, the lawn and
her vegetable and flower gardens. She did a lot of home
canning and freezing and always told her family to grocery
shop in the basement and freezer before they left after a
weekend visit. Her greatest joy in recent years was spending
time with her granddaughters, Ava Norem and Katie Allison.
She always laughed and said they spoiled her.
Death came to Dianne on
July 30, 2009, after a short-term battle with cancer.
Those remaining to cherish
her memory are her husband, Steve; daughters, Melissa (Hank)
Norem of Shawnee, Kansas, Sarah (Zach) Allison of Olathe,
Kansas and Michelle (Jason) Zoske of Hubbard; grandchildren,
Ava Norem and Katie Allison, Jessica, Zachariah and Ben
Zoske; aunt, Arloene (Hans) Brinkmeyer of Radcliffe; mother,
Virginia Edel of Zearing; sister, Cheryl (Dave) Grasty of
Greenfield; brothers, Merle (Steph) Edel of Zumbrota,
Minnesota and Larry (Amy) Edel of Colo; along with many
other relatives and friends.
Dianne was preceded in
death by her father, Tony Edel; mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Merrill (Bud) and Doris Mannetter; and infant
niece, Monica Grasty.
