Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 4, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hampton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, from 4-7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson will be officiating.

IOWA FALLS—Barbara Sue Gisch, 59, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 20, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Inurnment will be in the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls.

Barbara Sue Banner, was born on February 27, 1949 at Hampton, the daughter of Neva Blanch (Allen) and James Robert Banner. She attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools and proudly received her GED at Ellsworth Community College in 1973. She was united in marriage to Gary Borschel on September 17, 1965 at Iowa Falls. Barbara was a homemaker and had been employed as a custodian at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital and worked at Boyt Luggage and SMI Joist, all of Iowa Falls.

Barbara Sue Gisch is survived by her children, Candida “Candi” (Sean) Holm of Iowa Falls and Thomas Borschel of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, Chelsea and boyfriend, Tyler Mennenga and Nick Nehring, Hannah and boyfriend, Jeremy Blome and Jacob, Morgan and Trystin Holm, all of Iowa Falls; one great-grandchild, Aiden Blome of Iowa Falls; and her siblings, James (Jeanette) Banner of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Robert (Carol) Banner of Iowa Falls, Larry (Karen) Banner of Alden, Donna Barker of Iowa Falls, Dale (Violet) Banner of Winder, Georgia, Carolyn (Roscoe) Whipple of Dows, Daniel Banner of Iowa Falls, Richard (Cyndy) of Wako, Georgia and Cindey Rumley of Salina, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Neva Banner; an infant brother, Donald Banner; and one sister, Shirley Anderson.

Jim Starr

IOWA FALLS—Jim Starr, 70, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at his home.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, September 8, at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Burial was in the St. Mark’s Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Jimmy Wayne Starr, was born on November 26, 1937 at Iowa Falls, the son of Violet Ruby (Ramey) and Wayne Truman Starr. He attended and was a very proud graduate of the Owasa High School with the class of 1955. On October 4, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Thomas at Iowa Falls. To this union one daughter was born, Lori. After Mary’s death Jim was united in marriage to Linda Abbott on July 2, 2005 at Iowa Falls.

Jim was employed at the KIFG Radio station in Iowa Falls from 1962 to retiring from radio in 1999. Not one to be idle, he then went to work for Sonny’s Upholstery, Iowa Falls and was currently employed with Thomas Management, Inc. of Alden.

He was a member of the St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls, serving in the past on the St. Mark Church Council. Jim was an avid community supporter having served on the Ellsworth Hospital Board of Trustees, serving with the Iowa Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Gold Coats, and the Alliant Energy Board. Jim will be missed not only by his family, but his coffee groups, golfing buddies, and his many countless friends.

Jim Starr is survived by his wife, Linda Starr of Iowa Falls; his daughter, Lori (Vince) Tiso of Pine Plains, New York; two grandchildren, James Tiso and Mary Tiso, also of Pine Plains; and one brother, Jerry (Bonnie) Starr of Phoenix, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Ruby Starr; and his first wife, Mary Starr.

Donald Grimm

ALDEN—Donald Grimm, 81, of Alden, died on Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 11, at the Immanuel Memorial UCC in Alden, with cremation following the services. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Alden.

Donald Lee Grimm, was born on April 16, 1927 at Urbana, the son of Floyd and Wanda Scott Grimm. He received his education at Urbana, graduating from the Urbana High School in 1944 as the class valedictorian. Donald served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married Virginia Christian in December 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Alden.

Donald worked as a mechanic at Farmland, retiring in 1987. Donald enjoyed bluegrass music and repairing and restoring violins from all around the United States.

Survivors include his mother, Wanda Grimm of Iowa Falls; one son, Jerry Grimm of Alden; one brother, Richard Grimm and wife, Joan of Waterloo; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; wife, Virginia; and a son, Wyatt.

IOWA FALLS—James W. "Kisser" Jones, 66, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 10, at the Linn's Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Russell Surls officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

James William Jones, was born on February 7, 1942 at Iowa City, the son of Bernita (Mulford) and Deo Albert Jones. He attended the Hampton Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1961. On June 20, 1964, James was united in marriage to Karolyn Kay Whitney in Canton, South Dakota. He served with the Iowa Army National Guard. James worked for Farmland Food in Iowa Falls for many years, and then for SEEBEE Corp., Hampton, after Farmland closed. He loved to fish and take care of his best friend, Lucky.

James is survived by his wife, Karolyn Jones of Iowa Falls; his children, Jake Jones of Iowa Falls, Lori (Robert) Clark of Colo, Jodie (Marlan) Van Meter of O'Fallon, Missouri and Jeffrey (Melissa) Jones of Altoona; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen (Kenneth) Heltzel of Portland, Oregon, Pauline Nalan of Stacyville and Verna Beard of Washburn; one brother, Marlin "Joe" (Beverly) Jones of Hampton; and his trusted friend, Lucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Deo and Bernita Jones; a grandson, Lewis Clark the son of Lori and Robert Clark; one sister, Marlys Kruckenberg; one brother, Donald "Pete" Jones; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Nalan and James Beard.

Frank Brennecke

ACKLEY—Frank Brennecke, 80, of Ackley, died in Waterloo, on Sunday, September 7, 2008, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

The Estel-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown is in charge of the arrangements. Funeral services were held at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown with burial in the Riverside Cemetery.

Frank was born on June 5, 1928 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Mildred (Wellons) and Charles Brennecke. He was raised in rural Marshall County and graduated from the Lamoille High School in 1946. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. He served in the Army in the Korean War from October 1950 to October 1952.

He was united in marriage to Ethel Eloise Drake of Patterson, Iowa, on May 24, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union were born six children, Daniel, Janita, Jackie, Jeanie, Douglas and Elaine.

Frank was a salesman. He worked for Hertz Farm Management in Nevada, Iowa, and for a wind machine company in Yuma, Arizona. He sold Fuller Brushes, World Book Encyclopedias and was a real estate broker. In January, 1953, he opened Brennecke Farm Management in Marshalltown. He was employed as manager of Farm Service, Ackley, for 30 years, from March 1965 until his retirement. People often referred to him as “Monsanto Frank.” He was President of the Ackley Limestone Company, Inc., from its inception in 1978 until 2003.

Frank was a long-time member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, Ackley Men’s Club, Moose Lodge, Ackley American Legion Post No. 25, Ducks Unlimited, Ackley Country Club, Ackley United Methodist Church and Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Frank enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado, picnics, going to the casino, and playing chess. He was an avid reader, reading anything he could get his hands on. He liked to talk about farming and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed taking the grandkids out for ice cream. Frank looked forward to having coffee and visiting with his friends each day.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise; sons, Dan (Sandy) of Grand Junction, Colorado and Doug of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughters, Janita (Bryce) Abbas of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Jackie of Richmond, Virginia, Jeanie (Andrew) Cook of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Elaine (James) Moats of Hampton, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Doris Coppes of Yarmouth, Iowa; one brother, Karl (Mary) Brennecke of Reno, Nevada; a brother-in-law, Allen (Marilyn) Drake of Patterson, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Katherine and Janet Brennecke in infancy, Carol Scarbrough and Marian Rasmus; and a brother, David Brennecke.

Wilma Terveer

IOWA FALLS—Wilma Terveer, 86, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Hubbard Care Center, Hubbard, where she had made her home the last 11 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 11, at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Carol Myers officiating. A time of visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. The family will hold a private interment at a later date in the Berlin Cemetery, Jackson Township, Hardin County. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Wilma Leone Polley, was born on March 7, 1922, in her parents' farm home in Jackson Township, Hardin County. She attended the Owasa Community School, graduating with the class of 1939. On April 12, 1958, Wilma was united in marriage to Clarence Earl Terveer at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Susan. Wilma worked as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Iowa Falls and was a cook for the Hardin County Home for many years.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, cake decorating and collecting recipes. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls.

Wilma is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Curtis) Schwartz of Hubbard and their children, Joelle, Aaron and Julie of Hubbard; Susan Terveer (Samuel) Mullins of Iowa City and their children, Nathan Mullins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Evan Mullins of Iowa City; and one brother, Charles (Irene) Polley of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther Polley; her husband, Clarence Terveer; and siblings, infant twins Merle and Elizabeth Polley, Harlan Polley, Donald Polley, Doris Sinning and Emma Hoekstra.

Arlene Erna Klein

ACKLEY—Arlene Erna Klein, 84, of Ackley, died on Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 12, at the St. Peter’s UCC, rural Geneva, with burial in the church cemetery. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the arrangements.

Arlene Erna Klein, was born on July 14, 1924 in Eldora, the daughter of Louis and Vesta (Smallwood) Sprain. She graduated from the Eldora High School in 1943. Arlene was united in marriage to Earl Klein on December 28, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Iowa Falls.

Arlene was a member of the St. Peter’s UCC in Geneva, Geneva Study Club, TOPS, St. Peter’s Women’s Fellowship, and taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Earl; two daughters, Sandra Klein of Urbandale and Lori Johnson and husband, Russ of Chaska, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Tia Colao and husband, Ivan, Nicholas Klein, Anthony Klein, Tim Stork and wife, Emily, Trent Stork, Brad Johnson and wife, Miranda, Andrea Johnson, Zachary Johnson and Nichole Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Abby Johnson, Marcus Colao and Mariel Colao; a brother, Lowell Hodge and wife, Chub of Independence, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Sue Sprain of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Klein; a sister, Bernadine (Mrs. Gene) Bittner; and a brother, Bob Sprain.

Matthew Keith Conover

URBANDALE—Matthew Keith Conover, 32, of Urbandale and formerly of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, unexpectedly at his home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 15, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Matthew Keith Conover, was born on June 16, 1976 in Iowa Falls, the son of Keith and Cathy (Friedrichsen) Conover. He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1995 and graduated from the University of Iowa School of Business in 1999 with a finance degree. He worked at John Deere Credit in Johnston as an agriculture marketing manager.

Matt was a member of the Polk County I Club and the University of Iowa Alumni Association. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed all sports, golfing, basketball, biking, running and his true love of football. He was a devoted uncle, caring brother and a loving son.

Matt is survived by his parents, Keith and Cathy Conover of Iowa Falls; a sister, Andrea Widen and her husband, Michael and son, Peyton of Iowa City; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Florence Friedrichsen of Holstein; paternal grandmother, Esther Conover of Holstein; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Claude Conover.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, September 15, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with Jeff Thayer officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the funeral home.

Alice Mae Shane Simcox

DUBUQUE—Alice Mae Shane Simcox, 90, of Dubuque and formerly of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, September 12, 2008, at the Sunset Park Place in Dubuque.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 15, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with burial in the Union Cemetery. Memorials collected will be distributed to the Bible Truth Publishers and the Iowa Heart Center.

Alice was born on November 22, 1917, to Oliver and Inez (Payne) Shane in a large brick farm house southeast of Iowa Falls. She was the youngest child, with three brothers (Earl, Marion and Howard Shane). Alice lived most of her life in Iowa Falls. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1936 and went to work for her father's automobile dealership as a bookkeeper.

She married Clair Simcox on June 12, 1938, at her parents' farm home outside of Iowa Falls. Craig Dennis was born to this union on September 18, 1939 and Patricia Claire on February 25, 1948. In 1944, Clair and Alice moved to Manchester and later to Waterloo, where Clair became a barber. In 1957, they returned to Iowa Falls where they lived for 40 years. When Clair passed away on January 1, 1997, Alice moved to Ankeny to be close to her daughter and family. In August of 2007, Alice moved to the Sunset Park Place, a retirement community in Dubuque, to be near Pat and Merlin, who also had moved to Dubuque.

During her life, Alice faithfully witnessed her faith in the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior, and demonstrated His presence in her life to her family, friends and those with whom she made contact.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Clair; her parents; and her three brothers.

She is survived by her son, Craig (Molly) Simcox of Bellevue, Washington; her daughter, Patricia (Merlin) Gentz of Dubuque; three granddaughters, Vicki (Tim) Smokoff of Fox Island, Washington, Brooke (Aaron) Sluiter of Dubuque and Mikaela (Aaron) Harlow of Dubuque; three great-granddaughters, Amanda, Lindsey and Emily Smokoff of Fox Island, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

IOWA FALLS—Lilian Irene Heetland, 88, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, September 14, 2008, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.

Private memorial services will be held in London, England. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Lilian Irene Heetland, was born on April 24, 1920 in London, England, the daughter of David and Florence Pannell. She graduated from high school in London. She married Edward Heetland on August 2, 1943 in London. Lilian was a member of the Waterloo AMVETS Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Heetland of Iowa Falls; and three sisters, Doris Ivy of Sussex, England, Lucy Rose of Norfolk, England and Irene Winnifred of Surrey, England.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Oswald “Ossie” Jacobson

IOWA FALLS—Oswald “Ossie” Jacobson, 88, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 22, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls.

Oswald John Jacobson, was born on October 21, 1919 at Jewell, the son of Lena (Oswald) and Lawrence Albert Jacobson. He attended the Jewell Community Schools graduating with the class of 1937. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on August 11, 1942, serving during World War II. On March 12, 1944, he was united in marriage to Irma Ruth Blome at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. To this union two daughters were born, Lee Ann and Mary Jane. They farmed near Jewell, Kamrar and Iowa Falls, retiring from farming in 1975. Ossie was the caretaker for Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, for many years.

Ossie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, where he served as church chairman and sang in the church choir for a number of years. He had served on the Franklin County School Board at one time. Ossie and Irma delivered “Meals-on-Wheels” for a number of years. Ossie was a man of strong faith.

Oswald Jacobson is survived by his wife, Irma Jacobson of Iowa Falls; his daughter, Mary Jacobson of Iowa Falls; a son-in-law, Darrell Harless of Charles City; two grandchildren, Kristin Harless-Hall and husband, Jason and Matthew Harless, all of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Owen Hall of Des Moines; and two sisters, Marie Crook of Mechanicsville and JoAnn Emmerson of Riverside, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lena Jacobson; and a daughter, Lee Ann Harless.

Lois Ruth Whitney

AMES—Lois Ruth Whitney, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 23, at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Burial followed in the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials to the Cambridge Historical Society and the Cambridge Alumni Association. The Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted with the arrangements.

Lois was born on January 8, 1927, to John and Sina (Larson) Christofferson in Cambridge. Lois graduated from the Cambridge High School in 1944. She worked at Bankers Life in Des Moines until she married Ronald Whitney and together they farmed in White Oak for six years. In 1954, they moved to Iowa Falls, where they raised their five children and owned and operated the Iowa Falls Sales Pavilion until 1971. In 1971, they moved to Eldon, Missouri, with their sons, Kevin and Calvin.

Lois returned to her home area that she loved in 1978 and resided in Huxley. In 1978, she became the receptionist for the Story County Court House until she retired in 1992. Lois was very involved as an officer of the Cambridge Historical Society and worked tirelessly for the Cambridge Alumni Association. She was a kind and loving wife and mother whose first thought always was for the welfare of her family.

She will be sadly missed by her children, David of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Rayma of Vero Beach, Florida, Stewart (Hilda) of New Bern, North Carolina, Kevin (Noi) of Clovis, California and Calvin of Lake Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Mandy, Beth, Tyler, Kasia, Khawyn, Brett and Brandon; sisters, June Erickson and Edith Scott; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harold and Wendell; and an infant sister, Evelyn.

William J. Hunt

ORANGEVALE, California—William J. Hunt, was born on May 5, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa, one of eight children born to E. Porter and Eva Hunt. He was married 58 years to M. Patricia Hunt. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 18, 2008.

He was a loving husband and father to daughter, Cynthia Sue Hunt Breaux of Fair Oaks, California and son, David Porter Hunt of Sacramento, California. He was a doting grandfather of two grandsons, Kerner J. Breaux and Tyler J. Breaux and two granddaughters, Devon Patricia Hunt and Alexandra Judith Hunt of Sacramento, California. He is also survived by son-in-law, Kerner A. Breaux and daughter-in-law, Jana R. Hunt.

He graduated from high school in Sioux City and joined the Navy in 1943, where he spent time on a destroyer escort serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of War. After leaving the Navy, he and his wife spent four years farming. He joined Payless Cashways Lumber Company as a buyer living in Early, Iowa; Iowa Falls, Iowa; and Denver, Colorado, as the company moved. He also worked as a buyer for Grossman’s Lumber in San Carlos, California.

He was very active in the Boy Scouts, where he was a scoutmaster and district commissioner. He earned his Silver Beaver Award and the Vigil Award in the Order of the Arrow.

Mr. Hunt retired in 1985 and bought Hunt Plastics with his son, David Hunt, in Sacramento which he retired from several years later. He was active in the Destroyer Escort Sailor’s Association in Sacramento and Pathway Fellowship Church in Orangevale, California.

He dearly loved his wife, family and many friends. He will surely be missed. Memorial services were held at the Pathway Fellowship Church on Sunday, September 28. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Pathway Fellowship Church, Orangevale, California.

ALDEN—John Harvey Cox, 54, of Alden, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2008, at his home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 23, at the Immanuel Memorial UCC in Alden, with burial following in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of the arrangements.

John Harvey Cox, was born on July 7, 1954 in Albia, the son of Paul and Marjorie (Force) Cox. He graduated from the Twin Cedars High School in Bussey in 1972. John was united in marriage to Paula Russell on September 22, 1979 in Bussey. He was a truck driver and then was a load manager at First Fleet in Ames.

He was a member of the Mason Home Lodge No. 192 of Iowa Falls and was a reserve deputy sheriff and corrections officer in Marion County. He was Papa to his grandchildren whom he loved very much as did they love him. He was friends to everyone.

John is survived by his wife, Paula; a daughter, Monique and her significant other, Jay Vogel of Alden; his mother, Marjorie Cox of Bussey; a grandson, David of Alden; two granddaughters, Jewelle of Alden and Haylee of Alden; and expected grandson, John (JT); siblings, Daryl Cox and his wife, Jane of Apache Junction, Monica Reed and her husband, Denny of Bussey and Tim Cox and his wife, Cathy of Bussey; one niece and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Cox; and two brothers in infancy.

WEBSTER CITY—Rosella Edith Hansen, 96, of Webster City, and formerly of Williams, died on Friday, September 19, 2008, at the Crestview Manor in Webster City.

Rosella Edith Hansen, was born on June 21, 1912 in Dows, the daughter of George and Bessie (Annett) Root. She attended Vernon Township and the Dows High School. On October 20, 1934, she was united in marriage to Herman Hansen in Sandstone, Minnesota. Rosella lived near Williams for 52 years, moved to the Dows Development Apartments on September 1, 1987 and then to a nursing home in Dows, and then the Crestview Manor in Webster City in 2002.

Rosella is survived by a sister, Lucille Jackson of Webster City; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five sisters, Helen Haines, Rhoda Kreitlow, Elsie Foster, Dorothy Cheever and Mable Prescher.

David Daniel Meyer

CUMMING—David Daniel Meyer, 59, of Cumming, formerly of Iowa Falls and Fort Dodge, died on Friday, September 19, 2008, after being life flighted to the University Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 23, at the Egnacio’s Chapel in Cumming. Burial was in the Northlawn Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

David Meyer, was born on August 8, 1949 in Hampton, the son of Frederick and Marie (Siems) Meyer. He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. David was united in marriage to Patricia Watkins Miller on February 11, 1989, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Des Moines for several years where he worked in the transportation industry for Ruan and D.J. Franzen. They then moved to Fort Dodge where Dave worked as a dispatcher for SMX for nine years. The couple moved to Iowa Falls as he continued work at SMX and then at Pre Stress. Next, they moved to Cumming to work for TMC, where Dave worked until his illness required him to resign.

He was a member of the Cumming Community Church, Iowa Falls Elks Club B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1674 and the Iowa Falls Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1331. David’s passion was his family (including his four-legged children, Angus and Gypsy) and restoring a 1965 Chevy which he and Patricia drove on many car cruises. He enjoyed NASCAR and kept busy gardening and doing yard work for himself and his church.

David is survived by his wife, Patricia of Cumming; two sons, Christopher Miller and wife, Terry of Des Moines and Jeffery Miller and wife, Carin of Fremont, Nebraska; daughter, Margo Adams and husband, Kraig of Cumming; eight grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Whipple and husband, Merle of Geneva; mother-in-law, Dorothy Watkins of Granite City, Illinois; sister-in-law, Carol Meyer of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald Meyer.

John Timothy Shea

WATERLOO—John "Tim" Timothy Shea, 63, of Waterloo, died on Sunday, September 21, 2008, in Plainfield.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m., at the Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the funeral home. John "Tim" Timothy Shea, was born on November 14, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Thomas Shea and Marjorie McKinney. Tim grew up in Moberly, Missouri and graduated from Moberly High. Baseball was a big part of Tim’s childhood, playing in different leagues throughout high school and college. He went to college at Central Missouri State University. On March 11, 1967, Tim married Nancy Ray in Moberly. Two children were born to this union. Their family made several moves throughout the Midwest, including 11 years in Iowa Falls, before finally settling in Waterloo in 1989. Tim worked for the city of Waterloo as the superintendant of Waste Management.

Tim loved hunting, fishing, metal detecting, history, politics, talking about the Civil War, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Missouri Tigers, and most of all, spending time with his family. Tim will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Kelly (Gene) Newgaard of Iowa Falls and Jennifer (Doug) Parsons of Boone; three grandchildren, Sr. Airman Andrew Corson, Zachary Corson and Nicholas Parsons; and one brother, Mike Shea.

Ernest F. Hartkopp, was born on May 9, 1920 in Burdette, the son of Frank and Martha (Klein) Hartkopp. Ernest was united in marriage to Gladys Diemer on November 29, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 during World War II and had farmed all of his life.

Ernest was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bradford Fire Department and the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Society.

He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Merklin and Bill Gross of Clear Lake; two sons, Charles and Bonnie Hartkopp of Geneva and Ronald and Laura Hartkopp of Iowa Falls; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Bettie LaRue of Iowa Falls, Margaret Mitterer of Iowa Falls, Anna Mae Diemer of Ackley, Dorothy Teske of Ackley and Martha Parker of Aplington; and two brothers, Marvin Hartkopp of Iowa Falls and Wilfred Hartkopp of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; a son, Darwin; and a brother, Arnold Hartkopp.

Sally Jo Smuck, was born on September 3, 1954 at Eldora, the daughter of Katherine Alverda (Bennett) and Herbert Dallas Smuck. She was confirmed on May 25, 1968. She attended the Alden Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1972. On June 13, 2003, she was united in marriage to Dale Waldroupe. The couple later separated.

Sally Jo Waldroupe is survived by two brothers, Steve (Randy) Smuck of Buckeye and Stacy (Becky) Smuck of Shelley, Idaho; and two sisters, Susan Smuck (Rick Hoversten) of Alden and Sheryl (Terry) Goodknight of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Katherine Smuck; her sister, Sandra Trangsrud; and a nephew, Drew Goodknight.

HUBBARD—Ron Weig, 53, of Hubbard, died on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, after a year-long battle with leukemia and two transplants.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 29, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Father Paul Baldwin and Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald Steven “Chicklet” Weig, was born on January 26, 1955 in Algona. He was one of 10 children born to Edward and Adeline (Drummer) Weig. As a young boy he moved to Hubbard, where he attended the Hubbard Community School, graduating in 1973.

On November 18, 1978, Ronnie was united in marriage to Barb Luhman at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. They lived on a farm outside of Hubbard for five years before moving into Hubbard. For the last 20 years, Ronnie had been employed by Hardin County working on secondary roads.

He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora. His greatest joy was his children and supporting all the activities they participated in. He was an avid golfer, bowler, fast-pitch softball player and hunter. He was proud to be a Hawkeye and Detroit Lions fan.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Barb of Hubbard; two daughters, Amanda Weig and friend, Bill of Marshalltown and Angie Cook and husband, Jared of rural Union; one son, Adam Weig of Hubbard and fiancée, Kayleigh Epps; five sisters, Mary Lou (Marlyn) Scovill and Carole (Harris) Steinfeldt of Hubbard, Ruth (Dan) Coleman of Missouri and Elaine “Rosie” (Bruce) Gray and Norma (Jake) Shattuck of Zearing; four brothers, Louie and Jim of Hubbard, Jerry and wife, Cherryl of Marshalltown and Kenny and wife, Lola of Hubbard; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ronnie was preceded by his parents; one infant brother; and one nephew-in-law, Lee Lawrence.

APLINGTON—Minnie Achtermann, 106, of Aplington, died on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, from natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 30, at the First Reformed Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington. The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert D. Gilmore
March 6, 1924-September 28, 2008

WEBSTER CITY—Robert D. Gilmore, 84, of Webster City, died on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the Southfield Wellness Community.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 1, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden, with the Rev. Jay Jaeger officiating. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in the Alden Cemetery. The Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Robert’s name to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden, the Williams Lions Club or the American Diabetes Association.

Robert Daniel Gilmore, son of Roy and Lila Ranger Gilmore, was born on March 6, 1924 in Alden. He received his education and graduated from the Alden Senior High School. On January 9, 1946, he married Gerene Mae Puttkamer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple resided near Alden. He farmed in the Alden and Williams areas until his retirement. The couple moved to Webster City in January of 2001. He had been residing at the Southfield Wellness Community since March of 2008.

Mr. Gilmore was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden. He was a member of the Williams Lions Club from 1952-2007. He was also presented the Warren Coleman Honorary Award from the Iowa Lions Foundation.

In addition to his wife, Gerene; he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Gilmore of Ames and Kent and Helen Gilmore of Mankato, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mark Hild of Webster City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Marie Gilmore of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Verdelle Ellingson; and a sister in infancy, Cozette Jean Gilmore.

ELDORA—Henry J. “Hank” Wagner, 76, of Eldora, formerly of Union, died from natural causes on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora, while under the care of the Hospice of North Iowa.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 2, at the Sheller Cemetery, Eldora, with Hospice Chaplain Edward Bard officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.

Leota J. Clouse

ALDEN—Leota J. Clouse, 76, of Alden, died on Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial services were held on Friday, October 3, at the United Church of Christ in Alden, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.

Leota was born on March 4, 1932 in Beaver, Iowa, the daughter of Emmett and Helen (Grief) Stephenson. She married William Eugene Clouse on June 3, 1951 in Yale, Iowa.

Surviving in addition to her husband, William; are three children, Vonda (Gary) Johnson, Eugene (Kathy) Clouse and Russell (Amanda) Clouse, all of Alden; nine grandchildren, Heather (Steve) Hildebrand of Clinton, Maryland, Kylyn Clouse, Jayme Clouse, Jade Clouse, Morgan Clouse, Paten Clouse, Chance Clouse, Tessa Clouse and Shyanne Clouse, all of Alden; and one great-grandchild, Austin Hildebrand; three sisters, Lorene Moore, Vi Rohe and Ruth Morrell; and one sister-in-law, LaVonne Stephenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Marvin.
