Maurice LeRoy Andrews

IOWA FALLS—Maurice LeRoy Andrews, 87, of Ames, died on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the Riverside Manor in Ames.

Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Maurice LeRoy Andrews, was born on December 28, 1920 in Lee Township, Franklin County, the son of George and Delight (Bump) Andrews. He received his education in rural Lee Township and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School. He continued his education, graduating from Ellsworth Community College and Iowa State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Maurice served his country in the U.S. Army. Maurice was a personal caregiver. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the American Legion and was an avid stamp collector.

Survivors include his two sisters, Bonnie Smit of Steamboat Rock and Beatrice Marie Fraser of Chowchilla, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and cousins.

Mary Ann (Philips) Walton

YANKTON, South Dakota—Mary Ann Walton, 76, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital following complications from surgery.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, April 7, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Ann was born on March 10, 1932, to William and Blanche (Theobald) Philips in West Union, Iowa, the youngest of four children. She graduated in 1950 from the West Union High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Chemistry Education in 1954. She married Laurence Russell Walton on August 21, 1954. They had a daughter, Theresa Marie and a son, Michael Laurence.

Shortly after getting her degree she taught junior high and high school math and science in Ocheyedan, Iowa; Arvada, Colorado; and Alden, Iowa, until 1973. During summer sessions from 1961-1965 she attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, earning a Master of Science Degree in Math and Science teaching. During her time in Alden she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Troop Leader and was active in the St. Marks’s Catholic Church.

Mary Ann then went on to attend Respiratory Therapy School from 1973-1974 at McKennan Hospital, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy. In 1974 she moved to Independence, Iowa, where she established the new Respiratory Therapy Department at People’s Memorial Hospital.

In 1978 Mary moved to Yankton, South Dakota, where she became program director for Respiratory Therapy and division chair for Health Sciences at Mount Marty College. In 1994 the Respiratory Therapy program was closed and she continued teaching in the math and science departments. She served on many committees and served as president pro tem. She also taught math at the Yankton Federal Prison Camp. She “retired” from Mount Marty College in 2000, but continued to tutor in the Learning Resource Center and agreed to teach a couple more classes. She completely retired in the summer of 2003.

Mary was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, volunteered for many activities to include ushering/greeting, bringing communion to hospitalized parish members and running the kitchen operations for the Annual Fall Bazaar and Dinner. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, taking active leadership roles in the local chapter. Her life’s passions were her family, teaching and serving her church. The knowledge, passion for learning and confidence she instilled in her students and family were among her greatest gifts to those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Walton; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cindy Walton; foster daughter, Bich (Nguyen) Ho; grandchildren, Sarah A. Walton, Tiffany (ValDez) Galvan, David Cassanova, Vincent Ho and Eileen Ho; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Miguel Galvan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Laurence T. (Speed) and Norma (Fritz) Philips; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas E. and Marjorie (Ernst) Philips; and sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Earl J. McCart.

In lieu of flowers, Mary and her family request memorials in her memory be sent to the St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, South Dakota.

SAN DIEGO, California—Lcpl. Cody Wanken, 20, of San Diego, California, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Wounded Warriors Barracks at Camp Pendleton, California.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 10, at the Hampton-Dumont High School Gymnasium, with burial in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8:00 p.m., at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton. Fr. Bernard Grady will officiate at the service. Stephen Douglas Tierney

KANSAS CITY, Missouri—Stephen Douglas Tierney, 59, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008, in Kansas City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, at the Mount Moriah Terrace Park Chapel, Kansas City, with Pastor Terry Webster officiating. Burial was in the Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. The Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home of Kansas City was in charge of the arrangements.

Stephen Douglas Tierney, was born on October 14, 1948 at Perry, Iowa, to Leonard "Red" and Ethel Tierney. He was baptized at the Lutheran Church at Bouton, Iowa. At the age of 12, Steve moved to Denison, Iowa, with his family.

After he graduated from high school in 1966, he worked for Farmland Foods in Denison, Iowa Falls and Kansas City.

He is survived by wife, Kay of Kansas City; son, Chris Tierney and wife, Jen of Gretna, Nebraska; daughter, Sara and husband, John Pauley of Denison; father, Leonard "Red" Tierney and wife, Doris of Iowa Falls; sister, Jean Ann and husband, Lowell Schroeder of Denison; brother, David and wife, Cami Tierney of Des Moines; step-siblings, Linda and husband, Jack Walker of New Jersey, Carolyn and husband, Russ Weaver of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeanie Bekish of Cleveland, Ohio and Bill and Mary A. Bekish of Omaha, Nebraska; and seven grandchildren.

Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Tierney in 1968.

Horace H. “Pat” Kuhlemeier
August 21, 1919-April 4, 2008

HUBBARD—Horace H. “Pat” Kuhlemeier, 88, of Hubbard, died at his home on Friday, April 4, 2008, in Hubbard.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Rockford, with the Revs. Ken Kent and Lenny Carlson officiating. Pat’s body was cremated following the funeral. Part of his cremated remains will be scattered on the farm, part of them buried in Riverside Cemetery and part of them will remain with Luci. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for FFA scholarships. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard was in charge of the arrangements.

Horace Herman “Pat” Kuhlemeier, was born on August 21, 1919 in Rockford. He was the son of Arthur and Mabel (Moore) Kuhlemeier. He received his education by attending Rockford Schools, graduating with the class of 1937.

On June 29, 1941, Pat was united in marriage to Patricia Bahnsen in Mason City. After their marriage, he continued to farm the family farm raising grain and livestock. In 1965, he also started the Kuhlemeier Truck Line, which he operated until he was 72. Pat’s greatest joy was passing on his love of farming to his sons and grandsons. Pat’s wife, Patty, passed away in 1984 after 43 years of marriage.

On October 8, 1989, Pat was united in marriage to Lucile (Rankin) Reifschneider at the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard. Pat and Luci resided in Hubbard, but Pat continued his love for farming. He was also an important part of Luci’s Mary Kay business.

He served as a board member and past president of the Rockford Farmers Co-op and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockford.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife, Luci of Hubbard; one son, Court and wife, Sandra of Rockford; two daughters, Cindy and husband, Larry Brandau of Nora Springs and Kathy and husband, Ken Bushbaum of Rudd; three step-sons, Larry and wife, Judy Reifschneider of Louisville, Colorado, Commander Don Reifschneider of Oneida, New York and Randy and wife, Lori Reifschneider of Hubbard; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patty; two grandchildren, Darcy and Justin Kuhlemeier; one sister, Mildred Gustafson; two brothers, Herbert and Harold; and a special nephew, Kirby Kuhlemeier.

Carlene Joan Harty Steding

IOWA FALLS—Carlene Joan Harty Steding, 73, of Iowa Falls, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 8, at the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, rural Geneva, with burial in the church cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Carlene was born on November 26, 1934 in Franklin County, the daughter of Aeilt and Dena (Brower) Duit. She graduated from the Geneva High School, Ellsworth Community College and the University of Northern Iowa. She was united in marriage to James Harty on December 15, 1956, at the St. Peter’s UCC, rural Geneva. After his death, she married Larry Steding on January 14, 2007, at the St. Peter’s UCC.

Carlene had been a teacher with the Alden Community School District, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the St. Peter’s UCC serving in various capacities, Pleasant Hill Cemetery Society, Ellsworth Hospital Auxiliary and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Carlene is survived by her husband, Larry Steding of Iowa Falls; two daughters, Vicky Beer and husband, Gary of Boone and Becky Koenen and husband, Darrell of Aplington; three grandsons, Colin Askelsen of Boone, Gregory Koenen of Aplington and Thomas Koenen of Aplington; a granddaughter, Nicole Beer of Boone; three brothers, Duane Duit and wife, Marge of Nevada, Virgil Duit and wife, Audrey of Slater and Calvin Duit of Clear Lake; two sisters, Norma Burman and husband, Keith of Aplington and Lavonna Meyer and husband, Marlan of Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, James Harty.

Margaret Heffelmeier

IOWA FALLS—Margaret Heffelmeier, 85, of Ackley, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls.

Private graveside services were held on Saturday, April 19, at the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel assisted the family. Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Hospice.

Margaret Ann Martin, was born on April 4, 1923 at Somers, Iowa, the daughter of Olive (Knudson) and Wayne Martin. She graduated from the Somers High School with the class of 1941. On June 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harvey Heffelmeier at Santa Anita, California. She had been employed with a U.S. Ordinance plant in California during World War II, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, and after moving to Ackley, she was employed at The Cue in Iowa Falls, and 17 years at the Junction Cafe, rural Iowa Falls.

Margaret Heffelmeier is survived by her husband of the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls; two sons, James Heffelmeier and companion, Rosalinda Urbina of Hampton and Dean (Cheryl) Heffelmeier of Ackley; one daughter, Julie (Bill) Greenwell of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. June Wasen and Mrs. Jerry Harrell, both of Columbus, Georgia; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Olive Martin; and three brothers, Gene Martin, Darrell Martin and Wayne Martin.

Roger D. Sielaff

WEBSTER CITY—Roger D. Sielaff, 62, of Webster City, died on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at his home.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m., at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 191 of Webster City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines

Roger Darrell Sielaff, son of Darrell and Doris Whitesell Sielaff, was born on June 26, 1945 in Iowa Falls. He was raised in rural Buckeye and graduated from the Alden High School in 1963. He was employed for 32 years at Cargill in Iowa Falls until his retirement in 1998. On November 2, 1996, he married Rose Naeve in Alden. The couple resided in Webster City.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Alden. Roger was also a member of the VFW Post No. 1856 in Fort Dodge and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 735 in Webster City. He volunteered his service to take veterans to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for their medical treatment. Roger enjoyed playing Cribbage with his friends and family. He loved seeing and talking to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Rose, he is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Trenton Sielaff of Webster City and Troy and Amy Sielaff of Gladstone, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Tully and Joey Jackson of West Des Moines; stepson, Tom Van Overmeer of Fort Knox, Kentucky; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Ron Hankom of Hampton and Janet and David Kyle of Virginia; and brothers, Dennis Sielaff of Hubbard and David and Cynthia Sielaff of Idaho.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

Phyllis LaVon Russell

HAMPTON—Phyllis LaVon Russell, 79, of Hampton, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton.

Graveside service and burial will be at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, April 21, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Phyllis LaVon Russell, was born on August 25, 1928 at Tracy, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Scott) Winegardner. She received her education in Des Moines and graduated from the Des Moines East High School. She married Austin Russell Jr. on April 22, 1950 at Des Moines. Phyllis was the executive secretary to the editor of Better Homes and Gardens. She was a former member of the Waukee Christian Church. Phyllis will be remembered most for being a gracious wife, mother and grandmother who truly enjoyed her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Paula Cox and her husband, John of Alden; one granddaughter, Monique Hall and her loving partner, Jay Vogel and children, David, Jewelle and Haylee, all of Alden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Brandt; one sister; and two brothers.

Marcia Bergeson

RADCLIFFE—Marcia Bergeson, 70, of Radcliffe, died on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, with burial in the Radcliffe Cemetery.The Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House, Ames.

Marcia Jean (Osheim) Bergeson, was born on December 5, 1937 in Forest City, to Helmer and Maurine (Hesby) Osheim. She was baptized on December 26, 1937, and confirmed in Scarville. Marcia graduated in Kiester, Minnesota in 1955. She was very active in marching band and was a drum majorette. She attended Waldorf College and Mankato State.

While growing up Marcia’s dad owned and managed a roller skating rink and farmed. Marcia became a very advanced skater and caught her husband’s eye while roller skating in college at Forest City.

Jerry and Marcia were married on January 25, 1958. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in Florida with their children and grandchildren.

They played competitive tennis with their children and grandchildren during her six-year battle with cancer. Marcia would confidently take the prescribed medications and surgeries along with a strong faith and healthy diet. She continued to overcome many obstacles during this journey with a positive attitude and determination by setting and adhering to strict schedules.

Marcia explored many hobbies including playing the piano, painting, collecting antiques, a good game of bridge, ballroom dancing and a very strong game of tennis, and she loved to shop and have garage sales.

She enjoyed watching her children grow up and develop their personal goals. She had the opportunity of watching her grandchildren’s tennis matches and other activities.

She was active in the Lutheran church in Abilene, Kansas and Grand Island, Nebraska. She taught Sunday School and was in many church circles.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Jerry Bergeson of Radcliffe; three children, Todd Bergeson and wife, Susan of Atlanta, Georgia, Tim Bergeson and wife, Sherry of LaGatos, California and Cindy Galli and husband, Joe of Baltimore, Maryland; seven grandchildren; her father, Helmer Osheim of Lake Mills; three siblings, Roger Osheim of Emmons, Minnesota, Gloria Fallgatter of Northwood and Philip Osheim of Mahtomedi, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

ELDORA—Gary R. Gardiner, 68, of Eldora, died on Monday, April 21, 2008, at his home in Eldora, while under the care of the Hospice of North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 24, at the Eldora United Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Richard Boatman officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 6-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with Masonic Services beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Colleen Tjaden

IOWA FALLS—Colleen Tjaden, 66, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 24, at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the church cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Colleen Margaret Tjaden, was born on July 22, 1941, the daughter of Clifford and Mercedes (Reinbold) Uhl. She graduated from the Schleswig High School. On June 24, 1972, Colleen was united in marriage to John “Jack” Tjaden in Iowa Falls. Colleen worked for Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest, retiring after many years as an operator, supervisor and group manager. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers and Edgewood.

Colleen is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Tjaden; two daughters, Jacqueline Rieks and husband, Don of Des Moines and Patricia Reece and husband, Richard of Westerville, Ohio; a son, Ronald Tjaden and wife, Stephanie of Mason City; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Elaine Collins of Mapleton, LaVonne Friedrichsen of Mapleton and Sharon Juelfs of Cushing; and three sisters-in-law, Lisa Hanson Uhl of Dougleston, New York, Judy Uhl Husted of Glendora, California and Mary Uhl of Oto.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Robert, Kenneth, Clifford and Alan Uhl; and a sister, Joan Glassel.

Virginia “Ginger” Ann Fries (Laneville)
November 11, 1951-April 21, 2008

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida—Virginia “Ginger” Ann Fries (Laneville), 56, died on Monday, April 21, 2008, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ginger was born on November 11, 1951, in LeMars. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1970, and completed her bachelor’s degree in education with a major in English at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, Missouri in 1974. Ginger held various teaching positions in Kansas City, Kansas; The Woodlands, Texas; and West Palm Beach, Florida; and most recently the Jeaga Middle School.

Ginger is survived by her sons, Christopher (Katie) Risner of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and Matthew (Margaux) Risner of Jupiter, Florida; three grandchildren, River, Mila and Kailyn; her mother, Catherine Laneville of Iowa Falls; a sister, Louise Cordes of New London; and three brothers, Edward Laneville of Cottontown, Tennessee, Donald Laneville of Medina, Ohio and Daniel Laneville of Gardner, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Laneville.

ELDORA—Edward Junior “Short” Cole, 62, of Eldora, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center, while under the care of the Hospice of North Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 25, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with burial in the Union Cemetery in Union.

Marilyn Joann Meyer

IOWA FALLS—Marilyn Joann Meyer, 74, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, April 28, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in the Maynes Grove Cemetery, rural Bradford. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Marilyn Joann Blackmore, was born on May 5, 1933, to Esther (Eaten) and Ralph Blackmore. She attended schools in Popejoy and Iowa Falls. On March 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to George K. “Shorty” Meyer. To this union four children were born, David, M. Roxanne, Tamara and Michael. Marilyn was a homemaker and later a home health caregiver in Eldora.

Marilyn is survived by her children, David Meyer of Knoxville, Roxanne (Brad) Stoen of Iowa Falls, Tamara (Roger) Last of Alden and Michael Meyer and partner, Jon Garness of Rochester, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Ralph Blackmore; and her husband, Shorty Meyer.

Doris Bahr

IOWA FALLS—Doris Bahr, 87, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial followed in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, was in charge of the arrangements.

Doris Velma Tjarks, was born on December 17, 1920, on the family farm in Franklin County, the daughter of Maude Violet (McCormick) and Arend Christopher Tjarks Sr. She attended the rural Grant Township Country School and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1938.

On November 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to John Carl Bahr at Bethany, Missouri. To this union five children were born, Dennis, Dale, Carl, Ruth and Larry. The couple farmed north of Iowa Falls for many years.

Doris was a lifelong resident of the Iowa Falls area and was adored by those who had the fortune to know her. Her boundless compassion and love will live on in those lives she has touched. She will be greatly missed.

Doris Bahr is survived by her children, Dennis (Kristi) Bahr of Webster City, Dale (Trudy) Bahr of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Charlie Bahr of Iowa Falls, Ruth (Craig) Turner of Iowa Falls and Larry Bahr of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, David, Michael and Daniel Bahr, Dana Deibert, and Heather and Matthew Turner; four great-grandchildren, C.J. and Matthew Bahr, Grace and Ava Deibert; two brothers, Arend “Ace” (Frankie) Tjarks of Iowa Falls and Russell (Martha) Tjarks of El Monte, California; one sister, Grace (Walter) Dubberke of Hubbard; and one brother-in-law, Ed Godbey.

A. Grace Swaim

ELDORA—A. Grace Swaim, 91, of Eldora, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 3, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheppard Cemetery, rural Union. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

Anna Grace (Trupp) Swaim, was born on September 7, 1916 in Union, the daughter of Walter Charles and Flossie Fay (Armstrong) Trupp. Grace was raised and educated in the Gifford and Union areas, graduating from the Union High School in 1934. On November 27, 1938, Grace was united in marriage to Cecil A. Swaim in Marshalltown. After their marriage, they farmed in rural Hubbard and Eldora. They also lived in Madison, Missouri and near Owasa. They retired from farming in 1978 and moved to Eldora.

On December 5, 2000, Grace’s husband, Cecil died and she continued to make Eldora her home. In September 2002, she moved to the Ashbrook Assisted Living in Iowa Falls and to Scenic Manor in January 2008.

Grace was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora and was an active member of their Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening and sewing. Grace was also a member of the Dorothy’s Senior Center Card Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Pearce and husband, Bob of Iowa Falls and Lois Tidman and husband, James of Steamboat Rock; one son, Jerry Swaim of Clive; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Dennis Tidman of Eldora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Swaim; one daughter, Ruth Tidman; and one brother, Charles Trupp.

Wanda S. Chaplin

IOWA FALLS—Wanda S. Chaplin, 74, of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 3, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the Northlawn Memory Gardens. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Wanda Sophia Chaplin, was born on May 7, 1933 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Henry and Mae (Stevens) Schade. She attended Iowa Falls Schools. Wanda was united in marriage to Keith Chaplin on February 14, 1950 in Iowa Falls. She had retired from being a nurses aide at the hospital and nursing homes.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the East Side Ladies.

Wanda is survived by her two sons, Felton Chaplin and his wife, Del Marie of Iowa Falls and Craig Chaplin of Iowa Falls; a daughter, Kimberly Mann and her husband, Randall of Mason City; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many special people who called her “Grandma”; a sister, Marie Berges of Washington, Missouri; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; a daughter, June Garwick; a brother, Steven Schade; and a brother-in-law, Berkley Berges.
