Ila Mae Jackson

OWASA-Ila Mae Jackson, 79, of Owasa, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center, Eldora.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 5, at the United Methodist Church, Eldora, with the Rev. Richard Boatman officiating. Burial followed in the Berlin, Jackson Township Cemetery, Owasa. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Ila Mae Lambertsen, was born on October 21, 1929, to Lillian [Buge] and Anton Lambertsen. She had an older sister, Helene and younger siblings sister, Lucille twins, Albert and Althea and brothers, Jim, Roland “Duffy” and John. Ila Mae graduated from the Popejoy High School in 1948 and attended Hamilton Business College. She worked for a short time for the FBI in both Los Angeles, California and Washington, D.C., before returning home to work at the bank in Dows.

Mae was married to Dallas Jackson on March 18, 1953, at her parents’ home near Coulter. Mae and Dallas had three sons, Charles Anton born on December 17, 1953; Hylton Dennis born on June 15, 1955; and Wallen Ray born on April 20, 1957. She was a doting mother and housewife on the family farm near Owasa, and took literally thousands of family pictures and movies.

She had an enjoyable job at the Eldora Flower Shop for a number of years in the late ‘70s and from there went to work as a caregiver at the Hardin County Home for 12 years.

She moved from the farm home to Eldora in 1995 and spent many school days doing volunteer work with the kindergarten classes at E-NP where the kids all knew her as “Gramma” Mae. She looked forward to church services at the Methodist and Congregational churches.

Ila Mae went to reside at Valley View in Eldora in 2004 and continued to enjoy visits from E-NP students, friends and family until her death on December 1, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dallas; sisters, Helene, Lucille and Althea; and brothers, James and Albert.

She is survived by brothers, Roland and John; her three sons, Chuck and wife, Bev of Owasa, Hylton of Des Moines and Wally and wife, Carla of Coralville; her grandchildren, Melinda Sue Moore and husband, Charlie of Bradenton, Florida, Kyle Ray Jackson of Coralville, Ryan Paul Jackson of Iowa City, Mike and Allison Cole and family of Eldora, Margaret Mae Jackson and partner, Mick McCubbin of Owasa, Marcy Dawn Jackson of Waterloo and Laura Jean Jackson of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judith Ann “Judy” Fossell

CEDAR FALLS-Judith Ann “Judy” Fossell, 66, of Waterloo, died at the Sartori Memorial Hospital, on Monday, December 1, 2008, after a four-year battle with myasthenia gravis.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 6, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery.

Judy was born on June 1, 1942 in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Julia Wasson Dubberke. She married Leon Fossell in 1977. Judy attended the Dean Country School, Hubbard Elementary and High Schools, graduating in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1964 from UNI, and her Masters in School Administration in 1988 from UNI.

Mrs. Fossell was an elementary school teacher in Waterloo at the Van Eaton, Cedar Terrace and Grant Schools and then the Principal at Orange Elementary from 1993 until retiring in 2001. Mrs. Fossell had been a member of the Waterloo School Board; Waterloo Planning, Programming & Zoning Commission; Cedar Valley’s Promise; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Grin and Grow Day Care Board of Directors; Iowa State Education Association; Waterloo Education Association; and the Allen Hospital Patient Advisory Board. She had served as President of the Waterloo Education Association, Chair of the Cedar Valley’s Promise Elementary Education Task Force and President of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board of Directors.

She is survived by her brother, Gene Dubberke and his wife, Sue of Hubbard; sister, Jane Dubberke of Hubbard; four nieces and nephews, Ryan Dubberke of Wheeling, Illinois, Emily Pothast of Seattle, Washington, Jill (Eric) Hauan of Rochester, Minnesota and Laura (Beven) Kair of Iowa City; great-niece, Leila Kair; and many close family members and friends.

Mrs. Fossell was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister and brother-in-law, June and Dr. Henry Pothast.

Gertrude Oswald

IOWA FALLS-Gertrude Ida Oswald, 94, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 6, at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m., before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in the St. Mark’s Cemetery. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Main Street Addition, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Gertrude was born on October 28, 1914 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Elna (Schiller) and Herman Neidhardt. Gertrude married George W. Oswald on June 4, 1935 and they lived in St. Louis and Lafayette, Indiana, before moving to Iowa Falls in 1942. George preceded Gertrude in death on July 31, 1971. Gertrude was employed by Wendell Pharmacy and then at Joseph’s Ltd. for 18 years.

Gertrude is survived by a son, George (Wilma) Oswald of Seneca, Illinois and daughters, Bette (Dale) Schrobilgen of Dubuque and Carole Schultz of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Susan Oswald, David Oswald, Barbara Chvatal, Greg (Kathleen) Schrobilgen, Dan (Jodi) Schrobilgen, Jill (Bill) Raine, Scott (Mary Ann) Schrobilgen, Randy Schultz and Ryan (Jennifer) Schultz; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son-in-law, Randy Schultz.

Gail N. Williams

BRADFORD-Gail Williams, 68, of Bradford, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 6, at the Bradford Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was in the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Gail Norman Williams, was born on April 14, 1940, the son of Norma [Nelson] and Laurel Williams. He attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1958. He served with the U.S. Army for one tour of duty during the Vietnam era. Gail was married to Marjorie Ann Daniels and to this union three sons were born, Mike, Tom and John. The couple later divorced. Gail worked for the Boyt Luggage Company, Iowa Falls. He was a member of the Bradford United Methodist Church.

Gail Williams is survived by his sons, Mike Williams of Iowa Falls, Tom (Angie) Williams of Alden and John Williams of Iowa Falls; three grandchildren, Jack Williams, Josie Williams and James Williams; and three brothers, Neville (Ruth) Williams of Montana, Roger Williams of Washington and Myron (Connie) Williams of Cedar Rapids.

Lee F. Hansen

IOWA FALLS-Lee F. Hansen, 84, of Olympia, Washington and formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Olympia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 10, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with Pastor Kenneth Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls Chapel.

Lee F. Hansen, was born on April 22, 1924 in Coulter. He was the son of Adolph and Clara Hansen. He attended the Coulter School and attended high school in Ackley and Iowa Falls, graduating in 1942. On October 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lorna Caroline Farhmann at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer. To this union three children were born, Marlyn, Jolene and Dorene. They farmed northeast of Iowa Falls for 48 years, retiring in 1995.

He was an active member of the Grant Center Church and after it closed, of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, participating in many of the organizations and activities held there. He also served in the Army in World War II and was stationed in Japan in the military police. Lee was also a member of the Farm Bureau, the Co-op Elevator and won first place for best speech when he enrolled in the Dale Carnegie Course in the 1960s.

He enjoyed fishing trips and attending air shows with his close friend, Verle Hunt as well as serving Meals On Wheels with Lorna for several years. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was loved and admired by both his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lee F. Hansen is survived by his children, Marlyn (Maureen) Hansen of Wrightwood, California, Jolene (Chuck) Laguna of Olympia, Washington and Dorene (Michael) Kelly of Hastings, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jon (Sam Fournier) Hansen of Bend, Oregon, Jenny Miescher of San Bernardino, California, Dawn (Greg) Douglas of Othello, Washington; Danetta (Scott) Nelson of Puyallup, Washington; Jessica (Nick Lerner) Miescher of Lawrence, Kansas, Sara Hansen of Santa Rosa Island, California, Dana Laguna of Olympia, Brian Hansen of San Diego, California and Patrick Kelly of Hastings; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Madisen and Abigail Douglas of Othello, Alicia Laguna of Germany, Elijah Nelson of Puyallup and Logan Lerner of Lawrence; sister, LaMona Marchant of Iowa Falls; and brother, David (Ruth) Hansen of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna; both of his parents; and his brothers, LaMoyen and Paul Hansen.

Velma Klaver
June 28, 1914-December 4, 2008

IOWA FALLS-Velma Klaver, 94, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center, Mount Pleasant.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 13, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the services at the funeral home. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Velma Detmer, was born on June 28, 1914 at Blairsburg, the daughter of Anna [Pfaffenbach] and Henry Detmer. She attended the Liberty Center School at Blairsburg and graduated from the Blairsburg High School with the class of 1932. On August 30, 1933, Velma was united in marriage to Fred Klaver at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. To this union three children were born, Betty, Jeanne and Rick. The couple moved to Iowa Falls in 1943 where she lived until March of 2008, when she moved to Mount Pleasant to reside in the Pleasant Manor Care Center to be near her daughter.

Velma had been employed at Dickson’s Dress Shop, Iowa Falls, for more than 25 years, retiring in 1976. She was a 64-year member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, an over 50-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1674, and an over 50-year member of United Commercial Travelers Council No. 509, all of Iowa Falls.

Velma Klaver is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Bob) Eppard of Mount Pleasant; her son, Richard (Jennifer) Klaver of Iowa Falls; a son-in-law, Jerry Donner of Eldora; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her brother, Walter Detmer and wife of Webster City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Henry Detmer; her husband, Fred Klaver; her daughter, Betty Donner; one sister; and two brothers.

LaVern “Bud” Ziebell

BUCKEYE-LaVern “Bud” Ziebell, 81, of Buckeye, died on Friday, December 5, 2008, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 10, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden, with burial to follow in the Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden is in charge of the arrangements.

LaVern “Bud” Ziebell, was born on September 2, 1927, at home in Radcliffe, the son of Paul and Mabel (Charlson) Ziebell. He attended school in Ellsworth. On November 2, 1951, Bud was united in marriage to Helen Rath in Ames. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was a feed mill manager at the Buckeye Elevator for 37 years. Bud was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Ellsworth and a former member of the Buckeye Fire Department.

Bud is survived by his wife, Helen of Buckeye; a son, Steve Ziebell of Iowa City; three daughters, Cathy Moore and husband, Dennis of Webster City, Lori Groom and husband, Chuck of Rowan and Jana Anderson of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Rosella Prince, Mercile Johnson and Wilma Hansen.

Richard Lettow
November 23, 1925-December 6, 2008

IOWA FALLS-Richard Lettow, 83, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 9, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, Alden, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Alden Cemetery. The Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Everett Lettow, was born on November 23, 1925 at Alden, the son of Anna H. [Briese] and Herman C. Lettow. He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1944. On June 20, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Phyllis Marie Bessman at the Immanuel Memorial Church in Alden. To this union two sons were born, Lynn and Roy. Richard farmed north of Iowa Falls for 21 years and then went to work for the state of Iowa for 24 years.

He served on the Franklin County ASCS Township Committee for many years; the Franklin County FHA Committee for many years; he was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, Alden, where he served on the board for several years; a member of the Meadow Hills Golf Club, where he served on the Board of Directors for two terms; a 15-year member of the Iowa Falls Lions Club; and had served on the Board of Directors of the Alden Cemetery Association for many years.

Richard Lettow is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lettow of Iowa Falls; his sons, Lynn (Vicki) Lettow of Edina, Minnesota and Roy (Shannon) of Dallas, Texas; and his three grandchildren, Jordan Lettow, James Lettow and Cassidy Lettow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Anna Lettow; and his sister and her husband, LaDonna and Joe Gowdy.

Marjorie Strauss
August 4, 1923-December 7, 2008

HUBBARD-Marjorie Strauss, 85, of Hubbard, died on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, after suffering from congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Burial will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery in rural Iowa Falls. The family will receive friends at the Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard on Wednesday from 5-7:00 p.m.

Marjorie Ellen Strauss, was born on August 4, 1923, in Hardin County by Owasa, to Clarence and Maude (Bailey) Huffman. After her mother’s death, she moved to Missouri with her father and stepmother. Marjorie spent part of her childhood living with her sisters and attending school in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. On June 27, 1940, Marjorie married Clarence Strauss in Eldora at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. To this union two daughters were born, Judy Ellen Rieks Dubberke and Joyce Ann Blome Mundell, both of Hubbard.

They lived in Ames after they were married. Clarence worked for a dairy, farming and milking cows, and Marjorie was a housewife and a housekeeper. In March of 1947, they moved to Iowa Falls. In March of 1951, they moved on a farm near Hubbard to farm. In March of 1963, they moved on a farm near Iowa Falls, where they farmed and milked their own cows. After they quit milking, they bought a small acreage which they farmed and raised hogs, and Marjorie continued to be a great cook and housewife. They sold their acreage and quit farming in 1973. Then lived and worked on a turkey farm near Eldora, and in 1983 moved to Iowa Falls to work at Sunrise Mobile Home Park where Marjorie helped with the bookkeeping and cleaning. Marjorie and Clarence retired later in 1984 and moved to the Park View Village Retirement Apartments where she continued to live after Clarence’s death in November 1996.

In 1999, Marjorie married Lawrence Strauss and moved to Lawrence’s house in Iowa Falls and lived there until Lawrence‘s death in January 2003. She then bought her own house in Hubbard and lived there until she moved in with her daughter, Joyce and husband, Jim in August of 2006.

Marjorie enjoyed helping Clarence on the farm and milking. She was a great cook and cooked lots of delicious meals while helping Clarence and raising their daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters and their families. She also loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially the family gatherings. Marjorie was a great card player and enjoyed playing cards with her family and especially her best friend, Jeanette in Pepper Tournament. Her last happiest moments were her 85th surprise birthday party this August.

Along with her daughters, Judy Dubberke and husband, Doug and Joyce Mundell and husband, Jim, both of Hubbard; she is survived by six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers and their wives; one stepsister; two stepbrothers; along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; eight sisters; and one brother.

STEAMBOAT ROCK-Jerold D. Lawler, 86, of Steamboat Rock, died from natural causes on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 11, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with Rosary Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, at the church for one hour prior to Mass.

Merle E. Kramer
May 9, 1928-December 8, 2008

STEAMBOAT ROCK-Merle E. Kramer, 80, of Steamboat Rock, died at his home from natural causes on Monday, December 8, 2008.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 12, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial followed in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora was in charge of the arrangements.

Merle was born on May 9, 1928 in Eldora, son of George and Josephine (Gast) Kramer. He was educated in the Steamboat Rock School System and began to farm with his father when he was just a teenager. On September 1, 1949, Merle was united in marriage to Mildred “Mick” Polzin at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alden. He served with the Iowa Nation Guard for three years and continued to farm near Steamboat Rock. It was known throughout the farm community that Merle would always have some of the straightest crop rows in the area. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Eldora.

During Merle’s younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling and tractor-pulling, and was proud to have won first place pulling at the Iowa State Fair in 1965. He enjoyed playing cards throughout his life and was very fond of his many boxer dogs, all of whom were called “Max.”

He is survived by his wife, Mick; three sons, Randy and wife, Laura, Mark and Marvin and wife, Lora, all of Steamboat Rock; daughter, Robin Nicholson and husband, Doug of Fairbanks, Alaska; sisters, Esther Getting and husband, Wallace of Grundy Center and Darlene Taylor of Eldora; brother, Gerhardt Kramer and wife, Edna of Ackley; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Travis) Meester, Eric Kramer, Kristine (Mark) Hoskinson, Jill Kramer, Ben Shupe, Zane Nicholson, Ryan Nicholson and Kendall Nicholson; and two great-grandchildren, Autumn Meester and Addelyn Hoskinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane; brothers, Harold, Lester and Kenneth; and sisters, Helen Luiken and Ruth Moon.

Wallace "Wally" Blome

ELDORA-Wallace "Wally" Blome, 77, died on Friday, December 12, 2008, at his home in Eldora.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 15, at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Matthew Rueger officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Hospice or Hubbard Golf & Rec. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard was in charge of the arrangements.

Wallace (Wally) Walter Blome, was born on July 19, 1931, on a farm north of Hubbard. He was one of four children born to Walter W. and Myrtle B. (Hartman) Blome. He was baptized on October 25, 1931, and confirmed on March 25, 1945, at the Zion Evangelical Reformed Church in Hubbard. He remained a member there until 1983, at which time he became a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Wally attended rural country school through the eighth grade, then he attended the Hubbard High School, graduating with the class of 1949.

After graduation, he helped his father farm and continued farming part time until the spring of 1980. Throughout his life, he worked for the Quaker Feed Mill, Iowa Falls Purina Bean Plant, the Standard Station in Hubbard, Hibbard Implement and drove a milk truck for Zearing Cheese Factory, Firestone in Iowa Falls. In 1980, he drove a truck for Ferrell Gas and in 1981 started to work for Farm Service in Hubbard in the agronomy and then feed departments. Wally was the feed bulk truck driver until he retired in 1996. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping Larry Hindman with the spring and fall field work. His last venture was working for the Hubbard Golf and Recreation Club.

Wally was united in marriage to Ramona Ranger in May 1954. On August 12, 1961, Wally was united in marriage to Joyce Strauss at the Church of Christ in Alden. To this union two children were born, Kevin W. Blome in 1964 and Katherine A. (Blome) Boeke in 1965.

On January 9, 1983, he was united in marriage to Ann Fredrickson at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hubbard. They enjoyed their combined family of two sons and two daughters. But their true joy was camping together. Ann passed away after a year-long battle with lung cancer on January 20, 1992.

Wally married Charlene Palo on May 23, 1993, at the Pine Lake Lodge in Eldora. Wally came to know the meaning of a large family as he embraced his new wife and her six kids. He enjoyed trips to Nebraska, Texas and Florida to visit them.

Wally enjoyed spending time with family camping, fishing and golfing. After he retired, golfing was his favorite pastime with his kids and friends.

Those left to cherish his life and memory are his wife, Charlene Blome of Eldora; son, Kevin Blome and wife, Brenda and daughter, Kathy Boeke and husband, Mark, all of Hubbard; step-daughters, Cynthia Larvrenz and husband, Tim of Garden City, Kansas and Kimberly Callahan and husband, Richard of LeAndre, Texas; step-sons, Jeffrey Fredrickson and wife, Debbie of Jewell, Joe Frazer and special friend, Stacia of Steamboat Rock, Larry Frazer and wife, Maria of Kissimmee, Florida, Mark Palo and Amy of Steamboat Rock, Jerry Palo and wife, Catina of Owasa and Todd Palo of Steamboat Rock; eight grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Prochaska and husband, Wendell of Lincoln, Nebraska and Joyce Faris and husband, Gary of Iowa Falls; one brother, Robert Blome and wife, Ruth of Hubbard; brothers-in-law, Maynard Hedum and wife, Marvel of Webster City and Alfred Hedum and wife, Jan of Greshan, Oregon; sister-in-law, Eldora Gillio of Hanford, California; along with many other relatives and friends.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Anne.

Mildred Myree Ray Clark, was born on September 1, 1917 in Batavia, the daughter of Elsie May [Rhodes] and Charles A. Clark. She attended schools in Batavia and graduated from the Batavia High School in 1935. On May 21, 1936, she was united in marriage to Omar Ray. To this union two sons were born, Phillip and Gary Pat. After Omar’s death on August 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Arthur McMullin on March 14, 1965. Arthur passed away on November 23, 1989.

Mildred was a food supervisor for Ellsworth Community College and the Iowa Falls School District, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Iowa Falls American Legion Auxiliary.

Mildred is survived by her son, Phillip (Barbara) Ray of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Michael Ray of Memphis, Tennessee, Kimberly (Michael) Krupnick of Corrales, New Mexico and Bradley (Kathy) Ray of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Gary Pat Ray; two sisters; and three brothers.

Heidi Kathreen Strien, was born on October 11, 1967 in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Almen and Janice (Bradley) Larson. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1986. While in high school, Heidi was a wrestling cheerleader. She then attended Luther College, graduating in 1990, with a degree in education. On September 1, 1990, Heidi was united in marriage to Todd Strien at the First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She was a reading specialist with the Waterloo Schools, until the birth of her third child; she then became a stay-at-home mom.

Heidi enjoyed cooking and her church friends at the First Church of the Open Bible. She loved her children, husband, family and being a homemaker. Heidi was very well-read and up-to-date on the world’s happenings and had an incredible faith in the Lord that inspired many.

Heidi was preceded in death by her father, Almen Larson; her paternal grandparents, AO and Anna Mae Larson; and her maternal grandmother, Kathreen Bradley.

Left to cherish Heidi’s memory are her husband, Todd and their three children, Kaiser, Isaac and Anna Strien, all of Cedar Falls; her mother, Jan Larson of Kansas City, Missouri; a maternal grandfather, Elton Bradley of Decorah; a brother, Andrew Larson of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Amy and husband, Jeff Maschka of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many, many friends.

Heidi will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Judith Lorrain Ross, was born on August 4, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Dollie McClean and Hallie Ross. She attended Kansas City Community Schools. On July 9, 1973, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Vestal in Elk Point, South Dakota. Judith was a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose and a volunteer at Beeds Lake State Park for many years.

Judith is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Gayla Mills of Alden, Janet Mills of Iowa Falls, Vickie Brus of Iowa Falls, Penny (Ronald) Evans of Iowa Falls, Christopher Vestal of Iowa Falls and Rebecca Bartz of Iowa Falls; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Ross of Kansas City, Missouri; and three sisters, Shirley Macintyre of Tacoma, Washington, Janet Salazar of Seneca, Missouri and Jackie Clevenger of Tucson, Arizona.

Mary Jane Sall, was born on April 20, 1920 in Mason City, the daughter of Florence [Kelly] and Charles Poshusta. She graduated from the St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, Mason City. On November 27, 1943, she was united in marriage to Roy Joseph Sall in Mason City. To this union two children were born, Thomas and Donald. She was a housewife and mother and also a partner with her husband in the Sall Distributing Company, Iowa Falls. She was a member of the St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls and also the church’s altar society.

Mary Jane Sall is survived by her children, Tom (Glenita) Sall of Palm City, Florida and Don (Mary Pat) Sall of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Amy (John) Kiser of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brad Sall of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Melissa Sall of Denver, Colorado and John Sall of Colorado Springs; and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Ross Kiser of Colorado Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Florence Poshusta; her husband, Roy Sall; and four brothers, Don Poshusta, Jack Poshusta, Howard Poshusta and Keith Poshusta.

Margaret was born on November 14, 1921, the daughter of Charles “Jerold” and Florence “Ola” (McCord) Kelsey. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1938 and Ellsworth Community College. Margaret was united in marriage to Maurice Lawton on September 11, 1942 in Iowa Falls.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, was on numerous church committees, Girl Scouts, school teacher, 4-H Leader, and was a national delegate to the 4-H Convention. She enjoyed her flower garden and baking cakes.

Margaret is survived by her three sons, Jim (LaVonne) Lawton of Ackley, Terry (Laura) Lawton of Palmdale, California and Neil (Denise) Lawton of Inwood; two daughters, Gayle Lawton of Collins and Beth (Tim) Sprouls of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; a brother, Dean (Barb) Kelsey of Iowa Falls; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Flossie Taylor Cummings

IOWA FALLS-Flossie Mae Taylor Cummings, 90, passed away on Thursday morning, December 18, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

The family will be present for a visitation from 5:30-8:00 p.m., on Friday, December 26, at the Linn’s Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, on Saturday, December 27, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.

Flossie was born on July 8, 1918 in Afton, Union County, to Vernie and Maggie (Andrews) Taylor. She grew up on a farm and attended a country school through the eighth grade. She married Hampton Robert (Bob) Cummings on December 24, 1935 at Greenfield.

Flossie was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She was very proud that all three of her children earned master’s degrees. She loved to play cards and crocheted endlessly. She made quilts for her children and helped quilt those made by Janice Cummings and her grandchildren, Alyson and Christophe. Her biggest project was for her grandson, Ryan and his wife, an afghan that was 5 feet by 10 feet. She had no formal education but gained much knowledge from her beloved crossword puzzles and TV game shows.

Flossie was a member of the First Christian Church for 67 years and served as a Deaconess, C.W.F. Treasurer, C.W.F. President, prayer warrior and called for church greeters. She sewed and quilted many things for the church bazaars. She was known for her chicken and noodles, stocking caps, pot holders and lap robes. She was a member of both the Eastern Star and White Shrine for 64 years. She served as Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem several times. She served as President of both the Order of Eastern Star Past Matrons and White Shrine Kensington. Flossie was also employed by Ellsworth Community College for 15 years as a custodian.

She is survived by: two sons, Richard (Janice) of Cedar Rapids and Max (Jan) of Ames; one daughter, Debi (Charlie) Makidon of St. Paul, Minnesota; one sister, Bessie Sinn of Story City; three grandchildren, Ian (Isabelle) Cummings, Ryan (Andrea) Cummings and Jennifer Cummings; two great-grandchildren, Christophe and Alyson Cummings; four step-children; and more than 50 nieces and nephews.

Flossie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Cummings in 1993; two sisters, Dorothy Clark in 1926 and Irma Ford in 1997; and two brothers, Leon Taylor in 1973 and Wesley Taylor in 2001.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, Youth for Christ, Kalamazoo, Michigan or Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, Iowa.

BOERNE, Texas-Jalene G. Simpson Welsh, 85, of Boerne, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008.

A celebration of her life will occur on Saturday, December 27, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Boerne. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to either the Rainbow Senior Center, Boerne, Texas or the First United Methodist Church, Boerne, Texas. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Vaughan’s Funeral Home of Boerne.

She was born on November 5, 1923 in Marshalltown, where she lived until 1957, at which time she and her family moved to California. While in Iowa and California, she was active in 4-H, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Rebekah’s and Eastern Star. She was employed at Rockwell International in accounting until her retirement in 1980. At this point, she moved to Boerne where she joined the First United Methodist Church and began what she often called “the happiest time of [her] life.” Jalene was actively involved in Family Services, the Rainbow Senior Center, Kendall County Homemaker’s, First Friends at FUMC and volunteering as a driver for those in need of medical treatment. She traveled extensively with her mother, her daughters, her husband and the First Ladies of Frost Bank. She had many dear friends who will remember her as a loving, caring and giving person.

Jalene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Buchwald and Adele Butt Buchwald; her brother, James Buchwald; and her ex-husband, Harold Simpson. She is survived by her husband, Dan Welsh; daughters, Jo Ann Calk and husband, Eugene, Susan Ovist and husband, Stephen and Ronna Hammel and husband, Michael; step-daughters, Gloria Sherrill and husband Jim and Glenda Welsh; her grandchildren, Jimmy Irwin, Donald Scott, Jeff Hammel, Melissa Martin, Jennifer Fair, Jon Hammel, Heather Smurr, Allyson Hamlin, their spouses; and 16 great-grandchildren.

ALDEN-Tom L. Kepple, 60, of Alden, died on Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 27, at the Immanuel Memorial UCC in Alden, with a graveside service in the Highland Cemetery in Bayard. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of the arrangements.

Tom was born on January 23, 1948 in Des Moines, the son of Raymond and Stella (Winebrenner) Kepple. He graduated from the Panora-Linden High School. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1992. He was united in marriage to Darlene Hulbert on August 8, 1976, at the Springbrook State Park. He had worked at Summit Farms and was a member of the U.S.S. Albany Association, Good Sam, NARA, and the Collins-Dunning American Legion Post No. 201.

Tom is survived by his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Jamila Dawn Hulbert Kepple of Alden; and brothers and sisters, Kenneth Kepple of Newton, Louise Bullard of Panora, Don Kepple of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Carl Kepple of Panora, Mark Kepple of Stanton, Washington and Rosemary Denning of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sammy.

GENEVA-Anna Sarah Held, 102, of Geneva, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, of congestive heart failure.

Visitation will be at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley, on Sunday, December 28, from 2-4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Geneva United Methodist Church in Geneva, on Monday, December 29, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Sylvia Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Lindenwood Cemetery in rural Geneva. Those wishing to give memorials may direct them to the Franklin County Historical Society or the Geneva Methodist Church.

Anna was born on April 27, 1906, the first daughter of Sebo and Anna Kramer in Madison Township, Butler County, Iowa. There she attended rural country school and went on to graduate from the Geneva Consolidated High School in 1924. She received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in various country schools in the Ackley area and then moved on to teach in the Aplington School System. On September 3, 1932, she was united in marriage to Elmer F. Held. Together they built a future on the family farm south of Geneva until 1960 when they retired and moved to a house in town.

Anna was an active member of the Geneva United Methodist Church. She directed the Bible School for many years, as well as serving in various other capacities. She was a member of the Franklin County Historical Society, the Geneva Women’s Club and the Lindenwood Cemetery Society. Her winters were spent in Ellenton, Florida, where she delighted in hosting family and friends. She loved to read and do craft work. She also enjoyed traveling.

Surviving family members include four daughters, Margery (Carl) Miller of Ellenton, Florida, Lois (Leonard) Koch of Hollywood, Florida, Marlys (Larry) Meyer of Geneva and Elma Kay (D. Neil) Emmons of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and two sisters, Louise Warneke and Irene Held.

ELDORA-Mary E. Shephard, 96, of Eldora, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Richard Boatman and Pastor John Gaulke officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the service time on Saturday at the church.

Mary Elizabeth ((Montgomery) Shephard, was born on February 18, 1912, the daughter of Leo J. and Grace (Webb) Montgomery, at home on her parents’ farm near Iowa Falls. She received her education with the Iowa Falls School District, graduating from the Iowa Falls High School. On February 19, 1931, Mary was united in marriage to Harold B. Shephard in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Mary and her husband moved to Eldora to make their home in 1944. While in Eldora, Mary worked at Piper’s Café, Whink Manufacturing and other businesses in Eldora. Her husband Harold died in 2003, and she continued to make Eldora her home until September 2008, when she moved to the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Mary was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. She was also an excellent seamstress. Mary also loved to clean and take care of her home.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gaulke and her husband, Richard of Iowa Falls; her son, Raymond Shephard and his wife, Doreen of Denton, Texas; five grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Varnum of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; one daughter, Linda Lee Shephard; two brothers, Wilber and Robert Montgomery; and one sister, Lila O’Neil.

IOWA FALLS-Bernard Pfeifer, 94, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, December 26, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 30, at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the St. Mark’s Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernard was born on November 5, 1914 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He grew up in Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Clara Ammann from Geneva on November 18, 1941. Bernard and Clara made their home in Iowa Falls, where he was a mechanic for the McClure John Deere dealership. Bernard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; his mother, Catherine; his father, Thomas; three brothers, Fred, Leo and Victor; and three sisters, Theresa, Margaret and Della.

Bernard is survived by his sister, Genevieve from Colorado; a brother, Arthur from Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Hospice of Northern Iowa and St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

Marvin Phillip Rusley

MANLY-Marvin Phillip Rusley, 90, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Manly, died on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

A funeral service for Marvin will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military graveside honors conducted by members of the Edward-Tosel American Legion Post No. 110 of Manly. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Saturday at the church. The Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin Phillip Rusley, was born on September 16, 1918, the son of Theodore Alfred and Frances (Perkins) Rusley. Marvin attended and received his education in the Lake Mills Community Schools, graduating from the Lake Mills High School in 1935. Marvin also earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1939 from the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Geneva Rebecca Searl on January 4, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death in October 1973.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 15, 1943, and served his country honorably during World War II until his honorable discharge as a sergeant on November 16, 1945. After his honorable discharge, Marvin pursued his law degree from the University of Iowa and graduated from law school in 1947. After earning his law degree, he began his law practice in Manly in 1947, and continued to practice law in Manly until his retirement in 1994. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Glassel in May of 1976 and she preceded him in death in 2004.

Marvin was instrumental in bringing the Pioneer Town and Country Club to Manly, and was also the mayor of Manly in the 1950s and the 1960s.

Marvin enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan, but his greatest love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, Edward-Tosel American Legion Post No. 110 of Manly, Pioneer Town & Country Club in Manly, Grand Lodge of Iowa Masons, Jaycees, and the Iowa Bar Association.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his children, Marjean Jensen of Hampton and her husband, Michael of Jupiter, Florida and Philip (Cheryl) Rusley of Iowa Falls; grandchildren, Michelle (James) Longhini of Ft. Meade, Florida, Mark A. (Karen) Jensen of Jupiter, Florida, Michael P. (Lee) Jensen of Barrington, Rhode Island, Eric W. (Jennifer) Rusley of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janean (Fran) Dicari of Loveland, Ohio and Jason T. (Melissa) Rusley of Kansas City, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Brock (Alli) Johnson of West Des Moines, Kelly (Chad) Friesleben of Urbandale and Stacy (Chad) Terrill of Ocheyedan; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Swails of Iowa City; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Geneva and Myrtle; a great-great-granddaughter, Jennifer Grace Jensen; and a brother, Dean Rusley.

IOWA FALLS-Vera Iola Baumann, 90, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with inurnment in the Hubbard Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour before the services at the church on Saturday. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Vera Iola (Collins) Baumann, was born on April 13, 1918 in rural Alden, the only child of Fred and Elsie (Hoelscher) Collins. She attended country school near Buckeye and Hubbard. On June 17, 1937, Vera was united in marriage to Roland Otto Baumann at Austin, Minnesota. Roland, an elevator manager, and Vera, a beautician and homemaker, lived in Hubbard, Woden, Morrison and Humboldt. In 1967 they moved to Iowa Falls. Vera was a beauty operator and homemaker.

She was a member of the Ladies Aide of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member; Ellsworth Hospital Auxiliary and Women Society; member of the Senior Citizens; and served as junior regent, senior regent and chaplain of the W.O.T. Moose in Iowa Falls. Vera loved to visit with her many friends and played cards whenever possible. Vera was very proud of her family and loved them all very much. She lived a full and rewarding life.

Vera Iola Baumann was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roland; and her parents, Fred and Elsie.

She is survived by sons, Loy Baumann and wife, Marion of Harcourt, Larry Baumann and wife, Jan of Waterloo, Steven Baumann and wife, Jo of Ames and Allen Baumann and Mary Erftenbeck of Valparaiso, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Kris Baumann, Sheri Williams and husband, Tim, James and Robert Baumann, Cecily Decklever and husband, Matt, Allison Sowers and husband, Wes, Meagon Marshall and husband, Nick, Marisol Baumann and Kevin Baumann; and six great-grandchildren, Robert Baumann, Danielle and Blake Williams, Isabel Decklever, and Keelan and Amaya Marshall.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at Greenbelt, Ellsworth Hospital and Scenic Manor, all of her friends and the community she loved, for the many acts and expressions of kindness. We thank you for your prayer and sympathy.

ELDORA-Marlene J. Blaeske, of Eldora, was called home on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. She attained the age of 76 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Township Cemetery near Owasa. Should family and friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Paul LWML, Lutheran Hour Ministries, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri or to the Bethesda Lutheran Home, Watertown, Wisconsin. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements.

Marlene was born on July 6, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of William F. and Bess G. (Fuller) Trampe. She was united in marriage to William J. Blaeske on November 21, 1953, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Milwaukee. She and her family moved to an acreage south of Eldora in 1972 and lived there till her passing.

Upon her retirement from the IDOT, she was a very active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora where she was involved with the LWML, quilting, ladies aid, senior citizen meals and served on the church renovation committee. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching Green Bay Packer games, being with her family and attending estate auctions where she found many beautiful items for her daughters. She was a very beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 55 years, Bill of Eldora; daughters, Holly (Mark) Dubberke of Nashville, Illinois and Lori Blaeske of Hudson, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Aubrey Dubberke of Lafayette, Indiana and Dustin Dubberke of Nashville, Illinois; a granddog, Ruffus T.; brothers, William Trampe of Iowa Falls, Richard (Joan) Trampe of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Gordon Trampe of Springville; brothers-in-law, Richard (Joyce) Blaeske of West Bend, Wisconsin and Andrew Weiss of Milwaukee; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law, Margaret Trampe and Betty Weiss; brother-in-law, Robert Blaeske; and nephew, Rick Blaeske.

Edwin Potgeter

IOWA FALLS-Edwin Potgeter, 81, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with burial in the Eldora Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be provided by the Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post No. 252 of Ackley. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Edwin Eugene Potgeter, was born on September 8, 1927, the first son of George and Lydia (Kruse) Potgeter of Steamboat Rock. He graduated from the Steamboat Rock High School in 1944 and then attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri until 1945. Edwin joined the U.S. Coast Guard on July 31, 1945 and was discharged on June 30, 1947, having reached the rank of radioman petty officer third class. He earned a business degree from Drake University in January of 1952. Ed lived in Eldora and worked in the family grain elevator and lumberyard until his retirement in 1985. Edwin married Mary Louise Swasand in 1953. Their daughter, Renee Diane, was born in 1954. They both preceded him in death. He married his high school classmate, Mildred (Boelman) Kruse of Ackley, on May 20, 2006 and they made their home in Iowa Falls.

He was a member of a number of local organizations including the American Legion, Mason Lodge, Elks Lodge, Pine Lake Country Club, Meadow Hills Golf Club and the UCC Congregational Church of Eldora. In later life he was a volunteer worker at the Iowa State Training School, served on the Eldora Senior Housing Board, and was also a volunteer with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children. He won the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2007. Ed was a very outgoing, positive and happy person who loved learning, meeting people, traveling, photography, golf, biking and poetry, and he was a private aviation pilot.

In addition to his first wife and daughter, Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; and a younger brother, James and his wife, Joyce (Hippen).

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two grandsons, Brian (Angel) Mott of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Brent Mott of Des Moines; and their father, Lloyd Mott of Des Moines; a great-grandson, Cohan Mott; a step-daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Wesley Poley of Cedar Falls; and a niece, Jami of Napa, California.

Donald John Musson, was born on January 28, 1923 in Dows, the son of George and Anne Mae (Erickson) Musson. He attended schools in Iowa Falls and graduated from the Gilbert High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. Donald was united in marriage to Pauline Stephens on April 5, 1946 in Ames. He had been a farmer all of his life.

Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls, and the V.F.W.

Donald is survived by his son, Doug (Karen K.) of Iowa Falls; a daughter, Karen Sue Musson of Iowa Falls; three grandsons, Troy (Jill) Musson of Shawnee, Kansas, Mark (Molly) Musson of Overland Park, Kansas and Scott Musson of Shawnee, Kansas; a granddaughter, Tracy Yount of Olathe, Kansas; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Jean) Musson of Waldport, Oregon; and a sister, Lucille Merrigan of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline; a sister, Doris Anderson of Seattle, Washington; and a daughter-in-law, Pennie Musson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 3, at the Hampton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton is in charge of the arrangements.

HAMPTON-Robert "Bob" Dean Schomburg, 71, of Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Hampton Health Care Center, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 5, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton, with graveside services at the Hampton Cemetery. The Rev. Karl Bollhagen and Vicar Jesse Burns officiated. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
