ACKLEY—Claus Prins, 88, of Ackley, died on Sunday, June 1,
2008, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday,
June 7, at the United Methodist Church in Ackley, with
burial in the Hazelgreen Cemetery, rural Ackley. The
Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley is in charge of the
arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Ackley
Veterans Memorial, Ackley, Iowa.
Claus was born on March
19, 1920, in Bellingwolde, Holland, to Elzo and Harmke (Hartog)
Prins. He immigrated to the United States as a toddler. He
attended Country School at South Prairie Hill and Robertson.
He lived with his family on various farms in Hardin and
Franklin Counties during his youth.
Claus was drafted and later inducted into the Army on
January 7, 1942, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen at
that time. He served in the Pacific Theater with the First
Cavalry Division 43rd Quartermaster Company until October
23, 1945. He was on a ship in the Bay of Tokyo the day the
peace accord with Japan was signed. Upon returning home from
the service, he started farming with his father near Macy.
He continued farming after his father’s death. Claus retired
to Ackley in 1981.
Claus enjoyed a good game of cards, socializing with friends
and a slow drive through the town and country. When he was
younger, he also traveled to many parts of the United
States.
Claus was preceded in
death by his parents; his sisters, Metje Prins and Mattie
Struthoff; his brother, Peter Prins; a nephew, Calvin Prins;
great-nephew, Andy Prins; and many close friends.
He is survived by his
nephews, John Prins of Iowa Falls and Marvin (Sue) Prins of
Ames; nieces, Donna Mae (Everette) Kromminga of Greene and
Marjean (Jeff) Clemons of Ackley; a niece-in-law, Sandy
Prins of Phoenix, Arizona; step-nieces and step-nephews;
great-nieces and nephews; and cousins and friends.

PARKERSBURG—Bertha Eckhoff, 85, of Parkersburg, died on
Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in
Waterloo, from injuries sustained in the Parkersburg tornado
on May 25.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday,
June 7, at the First Reformed Church in Aplington, with
burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg. Visitation
will be one hour before the services at the church. The
Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of
the arrangements.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the Covenant Medical Center in
Waterloo, of natural causes.

at the Faith Lutheran Church, with burial in the Oak Hill
Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Visitation is 12:30 p.m.

IOWA FALLS—W. Lyle Doty, 91, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June
9, at the Linn's Funeral Chapel in Iowa Falls, with Pastor
Kenneth Nason officiating. Burial will be in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be one hour before the
services on Monday at the funeral home. The Linn's Funeral
Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the
arrangements.
William Lyle Doty, was
born on May 25, 1917 in Iowa Falls, to Maude M. (Danger) and
Peter E. Doty. He attended school in Owasa and graduated
with the class of 1937. On October 22, 1940, Lyle was united
in marriage to Helen Frerichs at the Cottage Community
Church, rural Iowa Falls. He was a farmer and livestock
hauler. He also bought feeder pigs. He was a .member of the
Cottage Community Church.
Lyle enjoyed his work and
horses.
Lyle is survived by his
wife, Helen of Iowa Falls; two sons, Melvin Doty of Iowa
Falls and Marvin (Elaine) Doty of Aurora, Illinois; two
grandchildren, Chris Doty and Jennifer (Jace) Cams; and one
great-grandchild, Parker Cams.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Peter and Maude Doty; and one brother, Ralph
Doty.

IOWA FALLS—Joseph C. Huibsch, 80, of Iowa Falls, passed away
on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
A Mass of Resurrection was held on Tuesday, June 10, at the
St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with burial in the
St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
Joseph Carlyle Huibsch,
was born on June 10, 1927 at Eagle Grove, to Mary Caroline
(Flynn) and Martin Vincent Huibsch. He was confirmed and
baptized at Eagle Grove in 1927. He attended school in Eagle
Grove, graduating with the class of 1945. He attended
college at the Eagle Grove Junior College and Ellsworth
Community College, Iowa Falls, graduating with the class of
2003. On August 8, 1967, Joe was united in marriage to
Gladys M. Swenson in Calmar. He was a jeweler and hearing
aid dealer and was the owner of Joseph's LTD from 1967 until
retirement in 2005.
He was a member of the St. Mark's Parish, Iowa Falls,
serving as a Eucharistic Minister. He served in the U.S.
Navy from 1945 to 1946; the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1946 to
1958; and the Iowa Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973. He
was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; life
member of the 34th Division Association; member of the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 100; past
president of the Iowa State Jewelers Association; past
president of the Iowa Guild of American Gem Society; past
president of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health
Proctologist; member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge
No. 1331; life member of 40 & 8; member of the Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1674; member of the
National Rifle Association and National Rifle and Pistol
Association.
He was also a member (past Grand Knight from 1946 to 1947)
of the Frank McGivney Knights of Columbus Council No. 5835;
a member and past president of the Iowa Falls Lions Club;
member and past Commander of the Hyman-Peavey American
Legion Post No. 188; and a past County American Legion
Commander. He also served two terms as mayor of Iowa Falls.
Joseph is survived by his
wife, Gladys of Iowa Falls; one brother, Francis (Margaret)
Huibsch of Joplin, Missouri; and one sister, Catherine
(Francis) Killelea of Ottawa, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mary
Huibsch; and one brother, Edmund Huibsch.

died on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday,
June 11, at the United Methodist Church in Alden with burial
in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours
prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. The Surls

Mary was born on October
6, 1918 in Franklin County, growing up in the Alden area.
She graduated from the Alden High School in 1936. She was a
teacher, attending Iowa Falls Teachers College and Drake
University, attaining a master's degree. She taught most of
her career in the Des Moines school system. Like all great
teachers, education was a calling for her. Mary enjoyed her
cats, bird watching, the outdoors, sports and politics.
She was preceded in death
by her brother, Alvin Smith; mother, Emma Smith; father,
Earl Smith; and husband, David.
She is survived by her
cousin, Lois Haaland; her niece, Susan Westerdahl; her
nephews, Craig Smith and Steven Smith, and their families.

LAKEVILLE, Minnesota—Timothy Ankrum, 50, of Lakeville,
Minnesota, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13, at the
Hosanna Church in Lakeville, with interment in the Hubbard
Cemetery in
Hubbard. The White Funeral Home of Lakeville was in charge
of the arrangements.
Tim was born on November
2, 1957 in Eldora, to Clifford and Ardis (Butler) Ankrum. He
was a 1975 graduate of the Hubbard High School and on August
5, 1978, married his best friend, Lori Rieks. Tim has
resided in Iowa for most of his life.
He worked for United
Suppliers in Eldora and more recently with the Archer
Daniels Midland Co. in Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death
by his father, Clifford Ankrum.
He is survived by his wife
of 29 years, Lori Ankrum; sons, Daniel (fiancée, Joyce) of
Waterloo and James (Laura) of Cambridge, UK; siblings,
Sharmon (Keith) Norris, Melissa (Mike) Seeley, Mark (Joyce)
Ankrum, Susan (Doug) Chalfant and Theresa (Todd) White;
mother, Ardis Ankrum; and loving nieces, nephews and fiends.
His family meant the world
to him. He took pride in beating his sons at Wii just last
week, attaining the age of 23. He will be deeply missed by
all who knew and loved him.

BOONE—Marjorie Esther Wedgbury, 90, passed away on Monday,
June 9, 2008, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone,
where she had been a resident for several weeks.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday,
July 28, 2008, at the Walter–Schroeder Funeral Home in
Boone. The Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story
Streets in Boone is handling the funeral arrangements.
Marjorie was born on
October 2, 1917, the daughter of George Weston and Dorothy
Esther (Perry) Moor of Laurens. She attended grade school
and high school in Laurens and went on to Iowa State
Teacher's College in Cedar Falls for one year. On January
27, 1938, Marge married Lowell Irving Wedgbury, son of Scott
and Laura Wedgbury, also of Laurens. Other than a brief time
in San Diego, California, when Lowell was in the Navy, the
couple lived in several small towns in Iowa where Lowell
taught and farmed. It was a wonderful time and place to
raise their five children.
After retirement, the couple moved to Ash Flat, Arkansas and
in 1995, to Sedona, Arizona with their daughter, Sandra.
Lowell passed away there in 2001 and in early 2006, Marge
moved back to Iowa to live with her daughter, Mary and
family in Boone.
Marge was a member of the
First Christian Church in Laurens, the Disciples of Christ
Church in Iowa Falls, the First United Methodist Church in
Ogden, several other small-town churches in Iowa, the
Methodist Church in Ash Flat, and the Sedona United
Methodist Church in Sedona. In her earlier years, Marge was
a church organist/pianist, violin soloist and Sunday School
Teacher. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening,
making music and reading. While in Sedona, she also sang
with the Canyon Singers, a group her daughter, Sandra
directed.
Marjorie was preceded in
death by her husband, Lowell; her parents; her mother and
father-in-law; and her son-in-law, Larry Reid.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Hallenbeck of
Dubuque; daughter, Sandra Reid of Sedona; son, Steven
(Linda) Wedgbury of Hampton; daughter, Mary (Lonnie) Dill of
Boone; son, H. Scott (Yutaka Akita) Wedgbury of Monrovia,
California; daughter, Phyllis (Ricky) Mahaffey of Myrtle,
Mississippi; 10 grandchildren, Laurel (Billy) Reid of
Naples, Florida, Carla (Scott) Vaughn of Hardy, Arkansas,
Brian Reid of Phoenix, Arizona, Stacey (Jason) Loth of
Phoenix, Jason (Tish) Wedgbury of Mason City, Dan (Kim) Dill
of Boone, Julie Dill of Boone, Leah (Curt) Wooldridge of
Evening Shade, Arkansas, Jesse (Miranda) Arnold of Evening
Shade and Jake Arnold of Pensacola, Florida; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Marge loved music and
loved her family. She took care of all of us and was so
proud of us and our accomplishments. Though we will all miss
her greatly, she remains forever in our hearts.

Lorraine I. Bitters

IOWA FALLS—Lorraine I. Bitters, 81, of Iowa Falls, passed
away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Scenic
Manor Care Facility, Iowa Falls, after a three-year battle
with cancer.
Per her request, no formal services are to be planned. The
Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is assisting the
family.
Lorraine Idelle Larson,
was born on February 4, 1927 in Iowa Falls, to Ethel Rue
Tordoff and Clarence Evelin Larson. She graduated from the
Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1944. On May 4,
1947, Lorraine was united in marriage to Glenn Sherman
Bitters in Webster City. To this union one son, Craig, was
born. Lorraine was employed at the Iowa Falls State Bank for
more than 33 years. After retirement from the bank she was
employed at the Scenic Manor Care Facility, Iowa Falls, and
most recently at St. Mark's Catholic Church in the church
office.
Lorraine was a member of the First Congregational Church,
Iowa Falls; the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 188, Iowa
Falls; a lifetime member of the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital
Auxiliary; and a longtime board member of Union Cemetery. It
brought her heart great joy volunteering with different
organizations and groups.
Lorraine is survived by
her son, Craig Bitters; two grandsons, Steven Bitters and
Todd (Dannielle) Bitters and great-grandson, Eric Bitters,
all of Bondurant. She had hoped to live to see her second
great-grandson, Kyle, to be born in October. She is also
survived by two sisters, Marlene K. (Jim) Zech of Rockwell
City and Linda L. (Richard) Dana of La Jolla, California;
one sister-in-law, Martha Larson of Boone; and many nieces
and nephews. She is also survived by her three
grand-puppies, Alyse, Sarge and Candy, whom she loved very
much.
Lorraine was preceded in
death by her parents, Clarence and Ethel Larson; her
husband, Glenn Bitters; one brother, Richard Larson; and two
nephews, James Zech and Todd Porter.

GREENFIELD—Lucile Murra, daughter of Jake and Marion (Folkerts)
Muller, was born on August 2, 1920, on the family farm in
Grundy County. She passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at
the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield at the age of 87.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, June 13, at the St. John's United Church of
Christ in Ackley, with Pastor David Boogerd officiating.
Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. The Steen
Funeral Home of Greenfield was in charge of the
arrangements.
Lucile was raised and
educated in Ackley. She attended the German Township School.
On August 12, 1941, Lucile was united in marriage to Dick
Murra. To this union four children were born, Harley,
Leslie, Shirley and Melody. The family made their home in
the Ackley area, and Lucile was a homemaker and worked at
the school lunch room. She continued to make her home in
Ackley until becoming ill and moving in with her daughter,
Melody and family in Greenfield in 1998.
Lucile was a member of the
St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley. She enjoyed
music and playing the piano, accordion, harmonica and organ.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Dick; one son, Leslie; one
daughter, Shirley; two brothers, Benjamin Neymeyer and Merle
Muller in infancy; one sister, Leola Kuper; and one
sister-in-law, Gertrude Neymeyer.
She is survived by one
son, Harley Murra and wife, DiAnn of Marshalltown; one
daughter, Melody Olson and husband, Todd of Greenfield;
three grandchildren, Penni Chadderdon and husband, Abie of
Marshalltown and Benjamin and Austin Olson of Greenfield;
five great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Muller and
wife, Margaret of Iowa Falls; and nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends.

Amos Keck, was born on
November 15, 1933, the son of James and Bertha (Douglas)
Keck. He attended school in Arkansas and was a member of the
U.S. Army during the Korean War. Amos was united in marriage
to Frances Kay Mauderer on December 12, 1966. He had been a
truck driver.
Amos is survived by his
daughter, Linda Brannick and husband, David of Bradford; two
sons, John Keck of Rockford and James Keck of Mason City; an
adopted son, Norman Lehmann and wife, Colleen of Orange
City; and five grandchildren, Cory, Justin, LaTasha, Taten
and Rainey.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and his wife.

of Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Iowa Falls, died on Monday,
June 16, 2008, at home.

June 28, at the Elmwood Cemetery. The Parrott & Wood Chapel
of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of the
arrangements.
He was born on August 23,
1942, in Iowa Falls, the son of Stanley and Marie Sweet
Arnold.
Mr. Arnold was a survey
technician in Cedar Rapids and had been a lifelong musician.
He had recently retired from RBF Consulting, where he had
worked for 11 years.
He is survived by two
daughters, Christina George of Chicago and Trisha Ender of
Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters; his aunt, Peggy Arnold
of Mesa; two cousins, Clayton Arnold of Scottsdale, Arizona

Jon was a kind-hearted
man, always willing to strike up conversations with anyone.

and was a devotee of old-time radio and movies.

OLIVE BRANCH, Mississippi—Lorraine (Rainie) Schultz, of
Olive Branch, Mississippi, formerly of Indianola, moved to
her heavenly home on Thursday, June 19, 2008.
A celebration service was held on Thursday, June 26, at the
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola. The family requests
memorials be sent to the Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Lorraine’s name. The Overton Funeral Home in Indianola was
in charge of the arrangements.
Lorraine Meyer, was born
in Ackley on August 14, 1925. She graduated from the Ackley
High School and then the University of Iowa with a B.S.
degree in social work. She touched many lives through her
dedication to others as shown in her work at the Caroline
Mission in St. Louis, State of Iowa Child Welfare and
Adoption, Indianola High School and Lutheran Social Services
in Des Moines.
Lorraine’s passions in
life were her faith and family. Lorraine was a charter
member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola.
Throughout her life she started the Sunday school program,
served as vacation church director, directed Youth Choir
with Helen Comnick, a member of Lutheran Church Women Group,
and was the first woman to serve on the church council. She
took great pride and joy in the church’s growth and
development into the caring community it continues to be
today.
On October 24, 1949, she
married Chet Schultz, who preceded her in death on July 24,
1986. Lorraine leaves a lifetime of cherished memories and
her eternal love to daughters, Sandi (Larry) Abbas of Olive
Branch and Jan (Bryan) Fellows of Lino Lakes, Minnesota;
three grandsons, Dax (Mandy) Abbas of Windsor Heights, Cory
(Emily) Abbas of Des Moines and Deston Fellows of Lino
Lakes; five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Rowen, Crey,
Schultz and Rylann Abbas; sister, Marilyn Harken of
Camdenton, Missouri; and brothers, Duane (Jo) Meyer of
Grinnell and Leroy (Lois) Meyer of Lake Forest, Illinois.
Her family and friends
were inspired by her grace, kindness, courage, strength,
faith and love. We are honored, grateful and blessed to have
been a part of her life. Our memories of Lorraine’s love
will embrace us always.

from natural causes on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the
Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 24, at the
Steamboat Rock Baptist Church, with Pastor Harrison Lippert
officiating. Burial followed in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery,
with military honors provided by Hoover-Eiserman American
Legion Post No. 542. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home of Eldora
was in charge of the arrangements.

TAMA—Mindey Mae Barker, 27, of Ames, formerly of Tama and
Iowa Falls, died on Monday, June 23, 2008, at the St.
Anthony Hospital in Carroll, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 27, at the
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with Pastor Dewey
Grimes officiating. Interment followed in the Haven Cemetery
in rural Tama.
Mindey
was born on December 26, 1980 in Marshalltown, the daughter
of Lloyd Barker and Jamie (Clark) Whitham. She graduated
from the Iowa Falls High School in 1998, Maui Community
College in 2003, and Iowa State University in May of 2008.
She was currently working on her doctorate degree at Iowa
State. She was a research assistant at Iowa State and worked
in customer service at CDS.
Mindey
was a very giving person. She showed this in many ways such
as having a sponsor child and buying Christmas dinner each
year for a needy family along with presents for them. She
also supported the giving tree at Wal-Mart each year. Buying
Christmas gifts for her entire company while working in
Hawaii is another example of how giving she was. Her
generosity was exhibited by her desire to set up
scholarships for her family. Mindey was like a second mother
to Devin and was loved by her many friends as she went
through life. In keeping with her spirit of giving, Mindey
was donating her hair annually to locks of love. She also
enjoyed drag racing and liked to drive fast.
She was preceded in death
by her grandfathers, Frank Clark and Lloyd Barker Sr.; and
one cousin, Perry Skraastad.
Survivors include her
parents, Jamie (Dan) Whitham of Luther and Lloyd Ealy of
Gilman; her grandmothers, Betty Clark of Tama and Joan (Loyd)
Ely of Montour; three brothers, Lloyd Barker of Ames, Brad
Barker of Des Moines and Devin Barker of Gilman; one sister,
Courtney Gonzales of Boone; and many aunts, uncles and
cousins.

SPICER, Minnesota—Lorene Darlene Kempthorne, 80, of Spicer,
Minnesota, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 25,
2008, after a battle with cancer.
Funeral services with visitation to celebrate the life of
Lorene will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 10–11:30
a.m., at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Burial will
follow in the North Lawn Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
Born Lorene D. Meinberg,
in Geneva, on April 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the
late Rhina and Edward Meinberg. She moved to Spicer,
Minnesota in 1972, where she enjoyed her life with friends,
family and community. She was active in both polka and
ballroom dance and was appreciated for her outstanding
knitting and crochet. Lorene had a special love for birds,
especially hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Gerald C. Kempthorne in October 1980; and by
a brother, Lavern Meinberg.
She will forever be
remembered by her family, her son, Bradley Kempthorne and
fiancée, Heidy Rodriquez of Parkland, Florida; grandson,
Jason Kempthorne and fiancée, Amanda Bachman of Montrose,
Minnesota; granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Nicholas
Wolfe of Buffalo, Minnesota; great-granddaughter, Hailey
Wolfe; and nieces and nephew.

The Rev. Ronald
Rankin

DUBUQUE—The Rev. Ronald Rankin, 63, of Dubuque, and formerly
of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at
the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, Dubuque.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 1, at the Linn’s
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Burial was in the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
Ronald Dean Rankin, was
born on May 5, 1945 in Hampton, son of Edith M. (Turner) and
Leslie M. Rankin. He grew up on a farm near Dows. He
attended schools in Dows and Hampton. Even though he
struggled with cerebral palsy since birth, his post-high
school graduate studies included Simpson College at Mt.
Vernon and Westmar College at Lemars. His theological
studies included courses at Garrett-Evangelical Theological
Seminary in Evanston, Illinois and Southern Methodist
University’s Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas,
where he obtained his Divinity Degree in 1979.
He was ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church in
1970. Prior to his pastoral career, he worked at a wholesale
book store and as a hotel clerk in Hampton. During his
pastoral career, he served churches in Alabama, Arkansas,
Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, and
was chaplain at a hospital in San Francisco, California. His
first appointment in Iowa was in Carroll. His most recent
appointment was at the former Faith United Methodist Church
in Dubuque.
Ron continued to serve the
Lord providing comfort and prayer at Dubuque Nursing and
Rehab, even though confined to the nursing home after a
severe car accident. He was a Certified Advanced Lay Speaker
and was well known for his “rousing” sermons and his witness
to the power of Jesus Christ in his life.
Ronald is survived by an
uncle, Maurice (Peggy) Turner of Webster City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Leslie
Rankin; and a brother, Dennis.

Lloyd Fuller

BELMOND—Lloyd Fuller, 89, of Belmond, passed away on Sunday,
June 29, 2008, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 10:30
a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with Pastor
Mike Druhl officiating. Military rites will be provided at
the church by the Belmond Honor Guard. Burial will be in the
Berlin Cemetery in Jackson Township, rural Owasa, at 2:00
p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services
at the church on Wednesday. The Dugger Funeral Home in
Belmond is in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd Benjamin Fuller, the
son of Benjamin Star and Myrtle (Shaner) Fuller, was born on
March 25, 1919 near Owasa. As a youth, Lloyd attended
country schools, often by way of a horse-drawn sleigh on a
winter’s day. At the age of 10, the family moved to
Bradford, and Lloyd completed his education, graduating from
the Iowa Falls High School in 1936. The family then moved to
Popejoy where Lloyd farmed with his father.
Lloyd served his country
in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, including 18 months in
Hawaii. He married Marian Boyington, from Bradford, in
California on June 13, 1944.
Following Lloyd’s
discharge from the service, he and Marian moved to Alden,
and soon moved to Belmond to continue with his farming
career. Lloyd and Marian farmed for 35 years with Lloyd
retiring from farming in 1984, when they took on a new
adventure, delivering Winnebago motor homes. This career
took Lloyd to almost every state in the continental United
States.
Lloyd had many interests,
but his family was the highlight of his life. He and Marian
have great memories of their time spent on the dance floor –
whether it was for square dancing or ballroom dancing. Lloyd
enjoyed fishing in the spring and summer and ice fishing in
the winter. He and Marian also found enjoyment in camping
with their family and friends. His children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren will remember Lloyd for his
determination and patience teaching them to water-ski, play
cards, fish and other family activities.
He was an active member of
the United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Lloyd is survived by his
wife, Marian; daughters, Rochelle and Ron Hook of Sibley,
Sharon and Bob Crane of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and
Janelle and Richard Ringuette of Richmond, Virginia; son,
Ben and Kathy Fuller of Bondurant; grandchildren, Kristine
and Gregg Sherrard, Jennifer and Joel Johnson, Sheri and
Mike Kilbey, Stacey and Michael Couch and Jon Ringuette; and
great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Matthew and Joshua Sherrard,
Caleb, Grace, Nathan and Luke Johnson, Nicholas and Zachary
Couch, and Stefanie and Ryan Fuller.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and a sister, Eva.

CEDAR RAPIDS—Thomas James Varnum, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died
early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008, at the St. Luke’s
Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after a long illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m.,
at the Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Dr.
William Pugliese, with a reception at the church to follow.
Visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home
on Sunday evening from 6-8:00 p.m.. A private inurnment service
will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Barbara Schlacter on
Monday, July 7, at the Christ Church Columbarium.
Tom was born in rural
Radcliffe on February 2, 1946, the son of Wayne and Jannett
(Harms) Varnum. He graduated from the Radcliffe High School and
the University of Iowa. Tom was married to Elizabeth Corey
on August 24, 1968, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cedar
Rapids by Fr. Dominic Loferski. He worked in the medical
billing and insurance industry, including 11 years at Mercy
Hospital Family Practice Center and most recently for
Principal Financial Group.
Tom was a member of the Christ
Episcopal Church. He will be remembered for his faith, his
love of antiques, cooking, history, a good joke and his
family.
He is survived by his wife,
Liz; daughter, Katherine Varnum and her partner, Patricia; and
son, Charles Varnum and fiancée, Grace Rohwedder, all of Cedar
Rapids; his sister, Marlys Varnum
Allen of St. Louis, Missouri; an aunt, Doris Varnum Ellis of Iowa
Falls; a brother-in-law, Walt Corey and wife, Linda of Cedar
Rapids; his niece, the Rev. Kelly Allen and husband, John Rezentes and children, Clare and David of Buckinghamshire,
England; nephew, Adam Allen and wife, Heather and their
children, Chase and Blake of Bogotá, Colombia; and nephews,
Peter Corey and wife, April of Ft. Worth, Texas and Ryan
Corey and fiancée, Elizabeth Cearlock of Cedar Rapids; and by many beloved cousins and their families.

Davenport.

Carol married Lyle
Stratton on May 19, 1984 in Iowa Falls. A graduate of the
University of Northern Iowa, she then earned her master’s
degree in education from St. Ambrose University. Carol
pursued her career in education, most recently as an
academic counselor at the University of Iowa.
Survivors include her
husband, Lyle; son, Nolan C. Stratton of Coralville; her
sister, Rhonda Nolan of Ft. Collins, Colorado; brother, Carl
(Anne) Nolan of Park View; her twin sister, Cheryl Nolan of
Des Moines; and brother, Daniel (Nicole) Nolan of Clive.
