PARKERSBURG—Eva Amfahr, 88, of Allison, formerly of
Parkersburg, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the Allison
Health Care Center, of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July
7, at the Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church,
Parkersburg, with burial in the St. Athanasius Cemetery,
Jesup. Visitation will be from 2-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, at
the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and one hour
before the services at the church.

WATERLOO—Sharon Kay Hinders, 58, of Waterloo, passed away on
Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Covenant Medical Center in
Waterloo.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 7, at the Trinity
Reformed Church in Allison, with the Rev. Steve Petroelje
officiating. Burial was in the Allison Cemetery. The
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison was in charge of the
arrangements.

IOWA FALLS—Lila Klemme, 87, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday,
July 4, 2008, at the Scenic Manor Health Care Facility in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, at 10:30
a.m., at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in
New Providence. Burial will be in the Honey Creek Cemetery
in New Providence. Memorials may be directed to the Honey
Creek New Providence Friends Church, the Honey Creek
Cemetery, Church of God and the Barlow Memorial Library in
Iowa Falls. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard is in charge
of the arrangements.
Lila Ann (Crabtree)
Klemme, was born on July 13, 1920, at home in southern
Minnesota near Ellendale, Minnesota. She was born to Pearl
(Hubbell) and Charles Wesley Crabtree. She was baptized at
and became a member of the Methodist Church in Ellendale.
Lila attended Rural School
District 82 for the first eight grades, then attended and
graduated from the Ellendale High School. After graduation,
she moved to Iowa and began to work as a housekeeper. She
also worked as a cook at the Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa
Falls.
On January 12, 1945, she
was united in marriage to Maynard Klemme at the home of
Uncle John and Aunt Ruth Crabtree in Bradford. Lila then
worked at a nursing home and the County Home for eight
years. In 1964, Lila started working as a cook at the
Quakerdale Home in New Providence until surgery disabled
her. Lila and Maynard lived about 20 years in the New
Providence area before moving to the Hubbard Retirement
Apartments in 1982.
Lila joined the Zion United Church of Christ in 1983. She
moved her membership to the Church of God in Iowa Falls in
1996, after moving to Iowa Falls in 1989 to be near Maynard,
while he was in the nursing home. Lila remained in her small
home in Iowa Falls until she moved to a retirement home in
Iowa Falls.
Lila is survived by her
sister, Marjorie Trandem of Fairbault, Minnesota; cousins,
Verdell Kelly of Dows and Kathryn Rankin of Iowa Falls;
nieces and nephews; along with many other relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Maynard; twin sisters at birth; her
brothers, Leslie Crabtree, C. Henry Crabtree, Edwin E.
Crabtree and John M. Crabtree; and her sister, Arlene
(Crabtree) Severson.

IOWA FALLS—Kimberly Anne Newton, 15, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Friday, July 4, 2008, due to injuries received in an
accident.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday,
July 9, at the Iowa Falls High School Auditorium. Burial
will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A memorial fund
has been established and may be sent in Kimberly’s name to
Greenbelt Bank & Trust, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes
Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Kimberly Anne Newton, was
born in Iowa Falls on December 29, 1992, the daughter of
Lina Gaviola (Ocariza) and Wendell Arthur Newton. She had
just completed her freshman year of high school in the Iowa
Falls Community School where she was active in Band, JEL,
SADD, Student Council, Spanish Club and the International
Club.
She was a member of the Saint Mary’s Parish, Ackley, where
she served as an altar server; a member of Girl Scout Troop
No. 563, Iowa Falls; and a member of the Iowa Falls Lions
Leo Club.
Kimberly is survived by
her parents, Lina and Wendell Newton of Iowa Falls; her
sister, Stacey Newton of Iowa Falls; her grandparents,
Jovito and Alfreda Ocariza of Cebu, Philippines and Russell
and Ruth Newton of Iowa Falls; and several aunt, uncles and
cousins.

Richard L. Rose

IOWA FALLS—Richard L. Rose, 90, of Iowa Falls, died on
Friday, July 4, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at the United
Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. A graveside service was held
at the Crystal Township Cemetery, in Crystal Lake, followed
by a reception at the Crystal Lake Methodist Church. The
Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the
arrangements.
Richard LeRoy Rose, was
born on June 14, 1918 at Crystal Lake, the son of Harry and
Esta Tembey Rose. He received his education at Crystal Lake
and graduated from the Crystal Lake High School with the
class of 1936. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army.
He married Myrtle White on May 18, 1949, at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. They made their home in Iowa Falls where
Richard owned and operated the Rose Shell Service Station
until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church,
Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, UCT, Meadow Hills
Golf Course, and was a 62-year member of the Iowa Falls Elks
Club B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1674. Richard enjoyed golf, cards
and pool in his free time.
He is survived by his
wife, Myrtle of Iowa Falls; a son, Douglas Rose and wife,
Anne of Waterloo; a daughter, Mary E. Miller and husband,
Meredith of Marshalltown; granddaughters, Liz Fogle and
husband, Ben of Urbandale and Christi Lowry and husband,
Nate of West Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Landen
and Garrett Fogle and Morgan Rose Lowry; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Robert and Joanne White of Ventura; and
sister-in-law, Darlene Rose of Tucson, Arizona.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

STRAWBERRY POINT—Janice Bachtell, 69, of Strawberry Point,
and formerly of Iowa Falls and Arlington, went to be with
her Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at her home in
Strawberry Point.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Kenneth
Krueger officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery,
Volga. The Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls Chapel was in
charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorials to Amenity Hospice, Cedar Rapids or to
the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point.
Janice Jean McKiney, was
born on September 9, 1938 in Fayette, the daughter of
Mildred Louise (Wegner) and Harold Arthur McKiney. She
attended the Arlington Community Schools, graduating with
the class of 1956. She attended and graduated from Luther
College, Decorah, with a B.A. in elementary education. She
taught in the Arlington and Iowa Falls Community Schools,
retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Iowa Falls.
On December 21, 1958, Janice was united in marriage to Leon
(Gus) Bachtell at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Arlington. After retirement they moved to Eagle Rock,
Missouri in 1993 and back to Iowa to live in Strawberry
Point in 2007. She was an active church member all her life,
serving her church in many positions. She enjoyed teaching,
camping, painting, reading, and especially her grandsons.
Janice Bachtell is
survived by her mother, Mildred Burrack of Strawberry Point;
two sons, Tim (Sheri) Bachtell of Hubbard and Matthew
Bachtell of Bowling Green, Missouri; three grandsons, Cody,
Caden and Cory; two sisters, Shirley Collins of Laguna
Woods, California and Karen (Paul) Stine of Shell Knob,
Missouri; one brother, Dale (Sandy) McKiney of Waterloo; one
step-sister, Dixie (Dave) Ghormley of Waverly; and many
aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leon “Gus”
Bachtell.

AURORA, Illinois—Virginia L. Nelson, 87, of Aurora,
Illinois, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008, at the
Provena Mercy Center in Aurora.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at
the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield, with Pastor Jack Gannet,
of the Zion St. John Lutheran Church officiating. The
Retz-Grarup Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Virginia was born on
February 13, 1921 in Sheffield, a daughter of Amel H. and
Marie C. (Timmerman) Ahlberg. She is survived by her
children, Les (Joyce) Nelson of North Aurora and Shirley
Nelson and three grandchildren. Also surviving are her
sisters, Ruth Hoing of Alden and Mildred Edwards of
Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in
death by her husband, Edward C. Nelson.

IOWA FALLS—Daryl Tibbs, 80, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday,
July 11, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 15, at the Surls
Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with a committal service in the
Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Fertile.
Daryl Elvin Tibbs, was
born on May 30, 1928, to Lloyd and Hazel (Stuart) Tibbs at
Fertile. He graduated from the Owasa High School and served
in the Korean War. He helped support the family and took
care of his mother until she became ill. Daryl never
married. He was a truck driver and farmer. He attended the
Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a brother, Fenton Tibbs and wife, Marie of
Greensboro, North Carolina; a brother, Lauren Tibbs of
Williams; an aunt, Doris Patzer of Iowa Falls; an uncle and
aunt, Fred and Irene Mitchell of Iowa Falls; and a brother
in infancy.
He is survived by a
brother, Robert Tibbs and wife, Frances of Madison, North
Carolina; a sister-in-law, Pauline Tibbs of Williams; nine
nieces and nephews; and 11 grandnieces and nephews.

ALDEN—Maxine Jass, 76, of
Alden, died on Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Ellsworth
Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
July 16, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden, with
burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in
Alden is in charge of the arrangements.
Maxine Barbara Jass, was
born on October 2, 1931 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of
Ernest and Gladys (Christner) Laughlin. She graduated from
the Iowa Falls High School in 1949 and received her A.A.
degree from Ellsworth Community College in 1951. She was
united in marriage to Victor Jass on January 26, 1958, at
the First Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. They recently
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Maxine held positions at
AT&T, the Iowa Falls State Bank, Jass Brothers, Riverside
and St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchs, where she was an active
member. She was also a member of the I-Club and Alden
American Legion Auxiliary. However, the role Maxine will be
most remembered for will be as homemaker and mother. Maxine
spent all of her life taking care of those around her.
Instinctively, she would be there for others to lend a hand,
cook a meal, offer an ear, visit the sick or kiss a wounded
knee.
Joy was found around those
she loved and those who loved her. She is survived by her
husband, Victor; three daughters, Carol Neubauer of Iowa
Falls, Susan Reilly and husband, Jeff of Houston, Texas and
Linda Werner and husband, Kent of Boulder, Colorado; a son,
Joe Jass of Alden; 10 grandchildren; a former son-in-law,
Barry Neubauer of Urbandale and a former daughter-in-law,
Lori Klein of Alden; a brother, Mike Laughlin and wife,
Laurie of Bronson; a sister, Margaret Watson of Mesa,
Arizona; and three sisters-in-law, Jill Fraser and husband,
Don of Buckeye, Ann Jass of Marshalltown and Margaret Block
and husband, Dean of Webster City.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a sister, Mary O’Malia; four
brothers-in-law, George Watson, Ted O’Malia, Bill Jass and
Harm Jass; and a sister-in-law, Doris Jass.

FORT DODGE—Paul G. Frye,
67, of Fort Dodge, died on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the
Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday,
July 16, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge.
Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery at Alden. Visitation
is from 11:00 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at
the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Paul G. Frye, the son of
Giles and Regina (Repplinger) Frye, was born on September 9,
1940 in Mason City. He graduated from the Nora Springs High
School in 1958, and received a degree in Ag Business and
Economics from Iowa State University. Paul lived in the
Mason City area until 1960 when he moved to Alden, where he
lived until 1988. He then moved to Barnum and lived there
until moving into Fort Dodge in 1996. From 1957 to 1972,
Paul was self-employed with his father in trucking. He
worked for Ellsworth Trucking until 1980 and was with
Greenfield Transportation until 1992 when he joined Smithway
Motor Express.
Paul is survived by his
children, Cynthia Marie Oudekerk of Hampton and Steven
(Diana) Frye of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughter,
Savanna Lynn Meyer; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Gracen;
half-sister, Jean Reed of Luray, Virginia; and half-brother,
William Frye of Thousand Oaks, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Hilda M. Jury

ANKENY—Hilda M. Jury, 93,
passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 17,
at the Ankeny Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at
11:00 a.m., on Friday, July 18, at the United Methodist
Church in Alden. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., in the
Fairview Cemetery in Dows.
Hilda was born on November
23, 1914, to Edward and Emma Draves in Hanlontown. She
graduated from the Rowan High School in 1932. Hilda was
married to Carl L. Jury on October 12, 1938. Hilda and Carl
lived in Dows until 1952, when they made their home and
raised their family in Alden.
Hilda has been a lifelong
member of the Alden United Methodist Church. Hilda was a
devoted mother, providing a good home and raising her sons,
Dan and Dean after Carl passed away in 1967. Hilda retired
from her job as a lab technician at American Cyanamid in
1981. She moved to Ankeny in 1994 to be close to her sons
and their families. Hilda enjoyed her friends and senior
citizen activities in Ankeny for many years. Her family is
thankful for the loving care she received at the Sunny View
Care Center where she lived the last two years.
She is survived by her
sons, Dan (Bev) and Dean (Loreen); grandchildren, Donovan
(Sarah) with great-grandson, Davin, Jacob, Mandy Snyder
(Josh), Betsy, Christy and Cory, all of Ankeny; brother,
Emil Draves of Webster City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and
eight brothers and sisters.

IOWA FALLS—Mary Whitmore, 85, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, July
25, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with Pastor
Brian King officiating. Burial will be in the Friends
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m.,
on Thursday, July 24, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa
Falls.
Mary Esther Rose Whiting, was born on November 24, 1922, in
Bury St. Edmonds, England, to Mable (Steele) and Harry
Whiting. She attended private school through age 16. While
living in England Mary worked in a bakery as an assistant.
On January 8, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Donald
Charles Whitmore in Bury St. Edmonds, England. To this union
four children were born, Fred, Tony, Rosemary and Gene.
Mary became a U.S. citizen on August 26, 1952. She worked in
the mail room at Times-Citizen Newspapers, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church to include
its Rachel Circle; the Eastside Ladies Aide; and a former
member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge No. 1108, all of
Iowa Falls.
Mary Whitmore is survived
by her children, Fred (Georgia) Whitmore of Albert Lea,
Minnesota, Tony (Sue) Whitmore of Iowa Falls, Rosemary (Legran)
Miles of Florence, South Carolina and Gene (Shiela) Whitmore
of Sheffield; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mable
Whiting; her husband, Donald; and two brothers, Charles
Whiting and Erick Whiting.

BIGELOW,
Minnesota—Gena "Jay" Bicknese, 54, of Bigelow, Minnesota,
died on Friday, July 18, 2008, in Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 25, at the First
United Methodist Church in Worthington, with the Rev. Mike
Zaske officiating. Burial was in the Elk Brethren Cemetery
in Reading, Minnesota. The Benson Funeral Home in
Worthington was in charge of the arrangements.
Jay was born on March 27, 1954 in Fairbanks, Alaska, the son
of Gene and Gretchen (Racine) Bicknese. He graduated from
the Worthington High School in 1972 and from the Alexandria
Tech Diesel Program in 1974. Jay farmed south of Reading
until 1986. He then worked for Worthington Tractor Parts and
Iowa Falls Tractor Parts until 1995. Jay was currently an
owner/operator truck driver for LeRoy Prins.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Reading. He
was also a member and newsletter editor of the Dakota AMC
Club. Jay enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved
working on cars with his boys, attending car shows, playing
with his grandbabies and sipping slow cups of coffee at the
Blueline Cafe with his beloved family and friends.
Jay is survived by his
parents, Gene and Gretchen Bicknese of Worthington,
Minnesota; three children, Josh (Jessica) Bicknese of Sioux
Falls, South Dakota, Jonathan (Jennifer) Bicknese and their
son, Dawson of Ramsey, Minnesota and Brianna (Jared)
Magnuson and their son, Connor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota;
life partner, Pam Bandow of Bigelow, Minnesota and her
children, Ali (Tom) and Ben (Ashley); one brother, Leo
Bicknese of Worthington; nephews, Andrew (Krista) and Larry;
an uncle, Byron (Alice) Bicknese of Worthington; aunts,
Patsy Heusinkveld of Preston, Minnesota and Jean Racine of
Worthington.
He was preceded in death
by grandparents, Guy and Jennie Bicknese and Leo and Elsie
Racine; and uncles, Leland Heusinkveld and Marshall Racine.

IOWA FALLS—Hunter Christian Krause, 13, of Iowa Falls,
entered into eternal life with his family by his side at the
Ellsworth Municipal Hospital on Saturday, July 19, 2008,
after collapsing while playing football with his many close
friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday,
July 23, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.
Internment will be in the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. A
reception will follow at the Highland Golf Club. Memorial
contributions in Hunter’s honor may be directed to the
Hunter Krause Athletic Memorial Fund. The Pursel-Davis
Funeral Home of Marshalltown is in charge of the
arrangements.
Hunter was born on January
25, 1995, the son of Kent and Lori (Williams) Krause in
Quincy, Illinois. He was entering the eighth grade at
Riverbend Middle School in Iowa Falls. Hunter was a member
of the First Methodist Church, Iowa Falls-Alden Junior High
track, football, basketball, and North Central Strykers
Soccer Club. He had been active in Little League baseball,
Student Council and the Boy Scouts of America.
Hunter loved all animals. He enjoyed traveling with his
parents and brother, fishing, swimming, snorkeling,
snowboarding, four-wheeling with his brother, and most of
all hanging with his friends.
Hunter will be missed by
his parents, Kent and Lori and brother, Parker of Iowa
Falls; grandparents, Edna Williams of Iowa Falls and Dallas
and Lorretta Krause of Iowa Falls; great-grandparents,
William and Esther Krause of Alden; aunt, Kelly Vogel of
Marshalltown; and uncles, Scott (Sandy) Williams of Eldora,
Karlton (Joelle) Krause and Kurtis (Deanna) Krause of Iowa
Falls. Hunter was also adored by his many cousins, Anthony
Vogel (Stephanie) of Cedar Rapids, Ariadne and Alyssa Vogel
of Iowa City, Quinton Krause of Iowa Falls, Alayna Vogel of
Marshalltown, Kathrine and Charles Williams of Eldora, Lane
Krause, Logan Krause, Kassidy Krause, Evan Krause, Mattie
Krause, and Jack Krause, all of Iowa Falls.
In eternal life he joins
his maternal grandfather, Charles Williams;

ALDEN—Ralph Eugene Classon, 90, of Alden, passed away on
Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Hubbard Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
July 23, at the Methodist Church in Alden, with the Rev.
Martha Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Alden
Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge
of the arrangements.
Ralph Classon, was born on
the family farm in Oakland Township, Franklin County, near
the town of Popejoy on February 20, 1918, the son of Ida
Olson Classon and Clarence Classon. He attended grade school
at the Sunny Corner School No. 9 and graduated from the
Oakland Township High School of Popejoy. He was united in
marriage to Blanch McDonald on July 6, 1941. They celebrated
50 years together. To this union three children were born,
Donna, Diane and Craig.
Ralph lived and farmed in the Dows and Popejoy areas all his
life, with the most of it on the family farm. Ralph served
on the Franklin County REC and Corn Belt Power Cooperative
boards, was a member of the Dows Methodist Church and a
charter member of the Popejoy Lions Club.
Ralph Classon is survived
by his children, Donna Arends and husband, Bernard of
Nevada, Iowa, Diane Classon of Racine, Wisconsin and Craig
Classon and wife, Cinda of Dows; seven grandchildren, Jeff,
Dawn, Trevor, Chip, Candi, Derek and Doug; 10
great-grandchildren; and several in-laws, cousins, nieces
and nephews.
Preceding Ralph in death
were his wife, Blanch in 1991; his parents; brother, Curtis
Classon; sister, Bessie Mulford; and great-grandson, Zackery
Arends.

Fillhouer, 57, of Phoenix, passed away on Saturday, July 19,
2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, July 22, at
the Paradise Valley Country Club in Paradise Valley,
Arizona.
Deb was born in Hampton on
March 24, 1951 and moved to the Valley in 1984. She touched
the lives of everyone she met and was truly loved by
hundreds of friends and family members.
Deb is survived by her
husband, Dick; her mother, Lorraine; her father, Max; her
children, Jessica and Greg; her siblings, Dennis and Diane;
her nephews, Kevin and Nick; and her niece, Mandy.
Deb was preceded in death
by her stepfather, Earl; and her infant niece, Jennifer.

Falls, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa
Falls.
Memorial services were held on Friday, July 25, at the Iowa
Falls Evangelical Free Church, Iowa Falls. Graveside
services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 26, in the
Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. The Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of the
arrangements.
Marilyn LaVonn, was born
on
April 24, 1929 in Adair County at the family farm, the
daughter of Russell Waltz and Cora Elizabeth (Davis) Stickels. She graduated from
the Albia High School in 1947.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert William Johnson in
Winterset at the Methodist Parsonage. She was a cook at
the Vinton High School for 20 years and retired as a motel
manager at Fiddlers Inn, Branson, Missouri.
She attended the Iowa Falls
Evangelical Free Church and was a Vietnam Veteran’s Gold
Star Mother. Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her daughters,
having house guests, watching horses, reading, and spending
time with her grandchildren. Marilyn will be greatly missed
by her family.
Marilyn is survived by her
three daughters, Vicki Elaine Everman of Story City, Mary
Beth (Jeffery) Vieth of Iowa Falls and Susan Diane
(Michael) O’Reilly of Montrose; six grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren, Kris (Laura) Lilja and their daughters,
Annika and Elise of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Tessa Everman and her
son, Bostin of Altoona, Kacie Everman and her children,
Tayson, Jeyden and Kelis of Story City, Bethany Vieth of
Tacoma, Washington, Haley Auston and her children, Kiara and
Kamryn of Iowa Falls and Amy (Steven) Fellows and their
daughter, Evelyn of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Billie Lee
(Curtis) Jans of Dysart and Dixie Lou (Jack) Wayson of
Vinton; two brothers, Charles A. (Pearl) Stickels of Douds
and Russell W. “John” (Sheila) Stickels Jr. of Vinton; and
many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband; and son, Ronald Eugene Johnson.

son’s home in Hampton.

private inurnment. There will be no visitation.
Lynda L. Drilling Willms,
was born on September 22, 1943 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of
Albert and Katy Frerichs Schoeneman. She received her early
education in country schools and later graduated from the Iowa
Falls High School. She continued her education and graduated
from Ellsworth Community College and the University of Northern
Iowa. Lynda was united in marriage to Ed Drilling on February 3,
1966, at Elk Point, South Dakota and after his death, she married Verlynn Willms on April 23, 1984 at Ackley. She was a CD
counselor for Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City for 20
years.
Survivors include two
sons, Steven P. Drilling of Clovis, California and Ken Drilling
and wife, Angela of Hampton; three grandchildren, Katie
Drilling of Clovis and Jakob and Madison Drilling, both of
Hampton; a sister, Joyce Lawton and husband, Don of Iowa
Falls; four brothers and sisters-in-laws, Vicki and Arlen
Harken of Ackley, Vaughn and Elaine Willms of Ackley, Vince
and Cathy Willms of Belmond and Van and Deb Willms of
Ackley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Velma
Willms of Ackley; and a step-son, John Drilling and wife,
Teresa of Lake View.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a daughter, Annette Drilling; her two
husbands, Ed Drilling on September 18, 1973 and Verlynn Willms
on July 1, 2002; a sister, Marcia DeVries; and a
step-daughter, Cindy Drilling Richardson.

Dallas Leon Clock, was
born on March 27, 1927, to Leon M. and Marie (Woodly) Clock
in Hampton. He graduated from the Geneva High School in
1945. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1945-1947. In
1948, he married Verneta Johansen at the Geneva Methodist
Church. They lived in Geneva and owned and operated a
general merchandise store for 10 years before moving to
Eldora. He was employed by the state of Iowa until retiring
in 1987.
Survivors include his
wife, Verneta Clock of Eldora; two sons, Ron Clock and wife,
Mary of Eldora and Doug Clock and wife, Kathleen of St.
Paul, Minnesota; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Clock Bell
and husband, Jacob of Portland, Oregon and Joseph Clock and
wife, Lisa of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.

MASON CITY—Lucille J. Schmidt, 84, of Mason City, died on
Saturday, July 26, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday,
August 4, at the First Congregational United Church of
Christ. Officiating will be the Rev. Patti Aurand.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the
funeral home. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, in
the Alden Township Cemetery, Alden. Those planning on an
expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the
First Congregational UCC or the Hospice of North Iowa. A
lunch will be served following the services in Mason City
and a coffee will be held at the Alden United Methodist
Church following the graveside services. The Fullerton
Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Mason City is in
charge of the arrangements.
Lucille Jane Schmidt, was
born the second of four daughters to Anton and Edna “Watt”
Pingel on September 9, 1923 in rural Alden. She attended
country school and then graduated in 1941 from the Alden
High School. While in high school she enjoyed playing on the
women’s basketball team which went to state. After
graduation, she worked for Clifton’s Supermarket in Iowa
Falls, where she met the “Peter Pan” bread man, Wayne
Schmidt. Three months later, they were united in marriage at
the Congregational Church in Alden on January 14, 1945.
In their early years together, Lucy and Wayne lived in
Waterloo and then Reinbeck. Lucy primarily stayed at home to
raise their three children, although she sometimes took on
part-time work and also supported Wayne’s business ventures
throughout their 59 years of marriage. In 1966 she and Wayne
moved to Mason City where he owned and operated Mid-States
Supply, Inc. She helped part time at the store.
Throughout their years together, she and Wayne loved to
socialize, entertain guests and family, connect with
business contacts and travel. Outings often included
dressing up to go dancing at the Electric Park Ballroom in
Waterloo or attending social gatherings at the country club
in Reinbeck. While living in Mason City, she enjoyed
attending business conventions, antique auto club meets and
trips, golf, and traveling often to their second home in
Arkansas. She was an active church volunteer for many years.
Lucy was a superb cook and loved baking cookies for her
family and guests. Christmas favorites were her famous Santa
cookies, frozen fruit salad, and fritters. With attention to
detail and fine craftsmanship, she created beautiful works
through embroidery, crochet, sewing, restoration of
furniture, and maintained a home always ready for guests.
She was happiest when surrounded by the love and laughter of
her family and friends.
Those thankful in sharing
Lucille’s full life include her son, Dr. Gregory Schmidt and
wife, Dr. Brigitte Bruns of Bishop, Georaia; her two
daughters, Roberta and husband, Gary Tigges of Cedar Bluff
and Jody and husband, Gene Kimball of Ham Lake, Minnesota;
six grandchildren, Theron Schmidt and wife, Rajni Shah,
Katherine Tigges, Tobias and Nicholas Schmidt and Bradley
and Daniel Kimball; three sisters, Avon Plockmeyer of
Holland, Michigan, Edith and husband, Jim Barger of Cedar
Rapids and Lilla and husband, Robert Kellogg of Alden; her
sisters-in-law, Odessa Schmidt of Austin, Minnesota and
Donna and husband, Robert Matheson of Jefferson; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in her
death by her husband, Wayne in 2004; and by her parents.

Memorial Park, Faribault.
Richard E., the son of
Ernest and Arlene (Benchoff) Knott, was born on October 14,
1937 in Hardin County. He married Patricia A. Stadler on
October 17, 1961 in Dundas. He was a member of the local
Teamsters and drove for Crown Cork and Seal of Faribault.
He is survived by his
wife, Patricia; three children, Tony (Lisa) Knott, Todd
Knott and Nevita Knott, all of Faribault; 15 grandchildren;
one daughter-in-law, Kim Knott of Faribault; his mother,
Arlene Knott of Iowa Falls; one brother, Gary (Ann) Knott of
Grapevine, Texas; and one sister, Evelyn Brannick of Iowa
Falls.
He was preceded in death

Guadalupe Marie Elkin, was
born on November 29, 1919 at Dallas, Texas, the daughter of
Librado and Tomasa (Mireles) Uballe-Martinez. She graduated
from the Boone High School in 1939. She was united in
marriage to Berkley Berglund in October of 1941 and later
married Harold “Burnell” Elkin on April 28, 1991 at Boone.
The couple has made their home in Iowa Falls since 2001.
Survivors include her
husband, Burnell; her children, Rita Ann Martin of
Stratford, Daniel Lee Berglund and wife, Sherry of Bonsall,
California, Dolores Jean Kuhlman and husband, Randall of
Denison, David Alan Berglund and wife, Maggie of Tehachapi,
California and John Stephen Berglund and wife, Deborah of
Waukee; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a
brother, Lee Uballe of Des Moines; and a sister, Noel Najera
of La Mesa, California.
She was preceded in death

Leggett, was born on January16, 1930 in Holstein, the
daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Blenner) Ehlert. Rozella
graduated from the Popejoy High School in 1948 and was
united in marriage to Robert Leggett on April 2, 1952, at
the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden. Rozella had been a
church custodian for 21 years and a homemaker. She was a
member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Rozella
is survived by her two sons, Roy of Alden and Lyle and wife,
Kathy of Mankato, Minnesota; two grandsons, Adam Leggett of
Round Lake Beach, Illinois and Tyler Leggett and wife,
Heather of Wichita, Kansas; a great-granddaughter, Addison
Leggett; a twin sister, Rosa Ward of Swea City; and a
nephew, Jimmy Ward of Swea City.

peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Mission Viejo,
California.
A memorial gathering for Ruth will be held on Saturday,
August 23, at the Lucca Café in Irvine, California. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be
made in Ruth’s name to the Harvest Christian Fellowship,
Riverside, California.
Ruth was born on September
24, 1924 in Iowa Falls, to Earl and Mabel (Gardalen) Russ.
She was a graduate of the Iowa Falls High School, attended
Ellsworth Junior College and received a double bachelor’s
degree from Purdue University in English and Physical
Education. She married Richard (Dick) Comly on May 10, 1945
in Iowa Falls. Ruth and Dick resided in Estherville before
moving to Victorville, California and later to Riverside,
California.
Ruth worked in the office of the chancellor of the
University of California, Riverside for many years. Over
those years, she became known as “Mom” to hundreds of
students whom she mentored and guided as the official hosts
and hostesses of the campus. She was a member of the Harvest
Christian Fellowship and enjoyed golf, music and her
standard poodles.
Ruth is survived by her
daughter, Martha (Martie) Higgins of Foothill Ranch,
California; step-grandchildren, David Higgins and Robert
Higgins; step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Higgins, Nicole
Higgins, Kristen Owens and Justin Higgins;
great-great-grandchildren, Ethan McDonald and Abbie
McDonald; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Keith
Strahorn of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Dick on May 4, 2000. (See accompanying

RIVERSIDE, California—Richard (Dick) Comly, passed away on
May 4, 2000, in Riverside, California.
Dick was born on June 27, 1924, to Ross and Francis Comly in
Loveland, Colorado. He spent most of his years growing up in
Iowa Falls, where he graduated from the Iowa Falls High
School. Dick served in the U.S. Navy, briefly attended Yale
University, and graduated from Purdue University with a
double Master’s Degree in Biology and Physical Education. He
married Ruth Russ on May 10, 1945, in Iowa Falls. Dick
taught high school science and coached swimming and
wrestling and in Estherville, Iowa and Victorville,
California, where a wrestling tournament is held annually in
his name. Dick refereed Greco-Roman style wrestling at the
1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
He was awarded a Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award by the
National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. Dick also
enjoyed sports cars and participated in sports car rallies
for many years.
Dick is survived by his
daughter, Martha (Martie) Higgins of Foothill Ranch,
California; step-grandchildren, David Higgins and Robert
Higgins; step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Higgins, Nicole
Higgins, Kristen Owens, Justin Higgins; and
great-great-grandchildren, Ethan McDonald and Abbie
McDonald; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Keith
Strahorn of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
