Edith Eleanor Powers Lohman

Edith Eleanor Powers Lohman, 87, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, October 4, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Edith Eleanor Powers Lohman, was born on July 9, 1920 at Lamar, Colorado, the daughter of Edgar and Eva (Neil) Moore. The family moved to Indianola where Edith received her education, graduating from the Indianola High School in 1936 and Simpson College in 1940. She was united in marriage to Don Powers on August 24, 1941 at Indianola. Following his death in 1982, she was united in marriage to Francis Lohman on June 14, 1989 at Jackson County, Missouri.

Edith was a member of the Highland Golf Club and enjoyed spending time on the course when her health permitted.

Survivors include her two sons, Richard M. Powers and wife, Betty L. Jensen of San Carlos, California and Gary R. Powers of Iowa Falls; grandchildren, Robert D. Powers of Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason M. Powers and wife, Jamie of Iowa City, Jessica Powers of Iowa Falls and Marianna Powers of Lefkada, Greece; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn H. Powers and Martin J. Powers, both of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald R. Powers and Francis H. Lohman Sr.; four sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, at 1:30 p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. The Rev. Bailey will officiate at the service.

Alan James Williams

KIMBERLING CITY, Missouri—Alan James Williams, 63, of Kimberling City, Missouri and formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the Knoxville, Iowa Veteran’s Facility.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 6, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls. Following cremation, private family inurnment will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Alan James Williams, was born on September 26, 1944 at Iowa Falls, the son of Harry James and Harmena Marie (Aukes) Williams. He attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1962. He attended Ellsworth Community College, the University of Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a business degree. He served with the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. He was employed in management with the Shell Oil Company serving at Peoria, Rockford and Naperville, Illinois. He then became involved with the Century 21 Realty at Kimberling City, Missouri.

On January 22, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sharon Osthus and they were the parents of April and Dawn Williams. They later divorced. On July 18, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jean Knutson and they also later divorced.

Al loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He was called “Uncle Al, the kids pal” by all his nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Al was an excellent fisherman and loved the Table Rock Lake area. Al was a pro at completing the hardest of crossword puzzles. Al became the main caregiver/provider of his mother for the last few years they lived in the Table Rock/Kimberling City, Missouri area.

Al Williams is survived by his sister, Shirley Beach Fusco and husband, Joe of Peoria, Arizona; niece and nephews, Denise (Brian) Carnahan of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Julie) Beach of Grinnell, Kevin (Lori) Beach of Glendale, Arizona and Dennis (Myrna) Fusco of Hempstead, North Carolina; and great-nieces and nephews, Christyn and friend, Josh Breja, Jenn and Matt Carnahan, Nathan and Renee Beach and Brandon Beach; and longtime friend and companion, Vicki Stevens of Kimberling City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Harmena Williams; and twin daughters, April and Dawn Williams.

Al will be greatly missed and loved by all his family and friends.

Lucille Hazel Risius

BOONE—Lucille Hazel Risius, 69, of Boone and formerly of Hubbard, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Boone County Hospital, Boone.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, October 8, at the Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Berlin Jackson Township Cemetery, Owasa. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lucille Hazel Sonanstine, was born on December 10, 1937 at Auburndale, Florida, the daughter of Willard Ray and Herma (Meister) Sonanstine. She attended the Auburndale, Florida Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1956. On February 21, 1957, Lucille was united in marriage to Allen Maynard Risius at Griffin, Florida. She was a housewife and homemaker. Lucille was a member of the United Methodist Church of Owasa.

Lucille Risius is survived by two daughters, Kay Risius of Boone and Debbie (Don) Luther of Tucson, Arizona; one son, Ralph (Lana) Risius of Ogden; three grandchildren, Amanda Risius of Boone, Tara Luther of Tucson, Arizona and Tiffanie (Eric) Gardiner of Tucson, Arizona; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Herma Sonanstine; her husband, Allen Risius; two infant sons, David Allen Risius and Thomas Graham Risius; and three brothers, Ralph Sonanstine, Wayne Sonanstine and Harold Sonanstine.

Wendell Elliott

IOWA FALLS—Wendell Elliott, 84, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Ellsworth Hospital, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 11, at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls.

Wendell W. Elliott, was born on July 5, 1923, on his parents’ farm in Franklin County near Bradford, the son of Luther B. and Eva Egnes (Elliott) Elliott. He attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1942. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army, serving with the 350th Ordinance Depot Co., 1st Army in England, France, Belgium and Germany, receiving four overseas service bars, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct and World War II Victory medals, and a Meritorious Unit Award.

On February 22, 1947, Wendell was united in marriage to Elsie Annetta Smit at the First United Methodist Church, Hampton. To this union three girls were born, Barbara, Malinda and Rochelle. They made their home in a house Wendell built in Iowa Falls, where they still resided.

Wendell worked as an auto machinist for Bob Santee at the Iowa Falls Motor Supply and then for Don Butler at City Automotive in Iowa Falls, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Falls, a 47-year volunteer fireman for the city of Iowa Falls, a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1331, Iowa Falls.

Wendell Elliott is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elsie Elliott of Iowa Falls; his three daughters, Barbara Herr of Nevada, Malinda (James) Reed of Iowa Falls, and Rochelle Elliott (Kevin Schwebke) of Bradford; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eva Elliott; a son-in-law, Steve Herr; a brother and his wife, Donald and Edith Elliott; and a sister and her husband, Geraldine and Bill Simm.

Ann E. Kramer

ELDORA—Ann E. Kramer, 89, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, October 12, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Private burial services were in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Eldora Public Library. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora was in charge of the arrangements.

Ann was born on October 18, 1917 in Dexter, daughter of Howard and Carrie (Wetrich) Calfee. In 1927, her family moved to Eldora where she lived the remainder of her life. After graduating from the Eldora High School in 1935, she studied at the Kahler School of Nursing, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, where she graduated as a registered nurse. On November 29, 1939, she was united in marriage to Joseph Harold Kramer at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora.

Throughout World War II Ann practiced nursing in Eldora and then devoted the rest of her life to her family and numerous civic and social organizations. She was the first chairman of the board of directors of the then new Eldora Community Hospital and was active in the American Red Cross, United Way, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Monday Club, Mothers Club and numerous bridge clubs. She had a passion for both golf and bridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe in 1988; and daughter, JoAnn Kramer in 1994.

Ann is survived by her son, Joseph Howard “Jodee” Kramer of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Mary Jeanette Montandon

ALDEN—Mary Jeanette Montandon, 85, of Alden, died on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 15, at the Alden United Methodist Church, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Martha Bennett will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Mary Jeanette Schneider, was born on July 11, 1922, to Alexander and Helga (Karlsen) Schneider, Henry Township. She attended the Cleghorn Elementary and High Schools, and took courses at Ellsworth College. On January 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to Earl Leon Montandon in Webster City.

Mary was a homemaker and active in two neighborhood clubs for many years, the Hardin County 4-H Committee Woman, and represented the Methodist Church in Ames as a delegate and spokeswoman. She was an active member of the Alden United Methodist Church all her life. She organized the Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday School for many years. Mary was active in Ruth Circle for Methodist Women, she wrote a column for the local newspaper, and she participated in all the activities of her six children. She was the primary caregiver for her husband the last 10 years of his life.

Mary was known for sharing her culinary skills and Swedish tea rings with all she loved. She was loved and revered by all who knew her. Her son-in-law said, “Few people have been as privileged as her children, to have had a mother like her.” She will be truly missed.

Survivors include daughters, Pamela (Roger) Summers of Costa Mesa, California, Cynthia (Bob) Wakefield of Orem, Utah and Lisa (Ruven) Jimenez of Iowa Falls; sons, Doug (Janet) Montandon of San Clemente, California, Randy (Paulette) Montandon of Costa Mesa and Philip Montandon of Alden; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren (with one due in May); and a brother, Otto (Marian) Schneider of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Leon Montandon; her parents, Helga and Alex Schneider; a brother, Albee Schneider; and a great-granddaughter, Mary Virginia Terry, named after “Mama Mary".

Elsie Ora Nehring

IOWA FALLS—Elsie Ora Nehring, 83, died on Thursday, October 11, 2007, while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, from 1-3:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Owasa. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 15, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Owasa, with interment at the Berlin Jackson Township Cemetery following. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie was born on December 26, 1923, to O.C. and Ella (Rierson) Reed at their farm home north of Radcliffe. She attended country school near her home and later the Radcliffe High School where she played basketball and sang in the choir. She was united in marriage on December 4, 1939, to Donald E. Nehring at Liberty, Missouri. They made their home in Owasa and raised seven children.

She was a devoted wife and mother and held jobs seasonally with the Turkey Plant in Ellsworth, and sorted corn in Eldora. After Donald passed away in 1985 she worked for the Nutrition Site in Iowa Falls at the Catholic Church as a cook’s assistant. She was proud to attain her GED at age 65 in 1989 and then began working at the DHS office in Eldora, a job she enjoyed very much.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Owasa where she was active in United Methodist Women. In 2003 ill health placed her in the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center where she was a resident until her death.

Surviving are her children, Dick (Mary) Nehring of Alden, Charlene (Sam) Martin of Sun City, Arizona, Harold Nehring of Big Spring, Texas, Angela (Jim) Pippin of Spanaway, Washington, Debra (Adam) Terry of Owasa, Ella (Greg) Wilson of Gillette, Wyoming and Betty Jo (Rick) Reynolds of Casper, Wyoming; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ruby Abramson of Prairie Farm, Wisconsin and Laureen Spitler of Webster City; a brother-in-law, Dale (Erlene) Nehring of Oakhurst, California; sister-in-law, Bessie Nehring of Owasa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; a grandson, Donald Lee Nehring; brother, Russell Reed; and sisters, Marjorie Weiss and Hazel Gelhaus.

Kenneth Severson

RADCLIFFE—Kenneth Severson, 93, of Radcliffe, died pm Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 15, at the Faith Evangelical Church in Radcliffe, with Pastor Andrew Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery. The Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Albert Severson, was born to Martin and Ellen Severson on March 22, 1914 in Ellsworth. He graduated from the Ellsworth High School in 1931. After graduation Kenny farmed with his father and brother, Donny.

On April 24, 1941, Kenny married Coral Klatt in Princeton, Missouri. Together they farmed in the Radcliffe/Hubbard areas for 37 years. During those years, Kenny raised cattle, hogs, chickens, corn and soybeans. Kenny and Coral moved into their home in Radcliffe in 1978 to begin their retirement.

Kenny made it clear by the way he lived that he loved God, his family, his church and his community. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and watched as many televised games as possible. Kenny enjoyed visiting with people at church, the Cardinal Café, the Farmers’ Co-op Elevator and wherever he went.

Those who are left to honor Kenneth’s memory are son, Gale (Elaine) Severson of Strawberry Point; daughters, Beth (Jerry) Dodd of Brooklyn, Iowa, Mary (Rick) Redburn of Winston, Oregon and Marcia (Dan) Hormig of Windom, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Whitney of Radcliffe and Jane Olson of Nevada, Iowa; Coral’s family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Coral who passed away on January 14, 2006; his parents; sister, Ferne; brother, Donald; and great-grandson, Dyson Rusher.

Kenny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by so many.

William C. Otto

HUBBARD—William C. Otto, 76, of Hubbard, died on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 15, at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard, with the Rev. Matthew Rueger officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery, with military rites provided by the American Legion Post No. 4, Hubbard. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard was in charge of the arrangements.

William (Bill) Charles Otto, was born on July 30, 1931, at the Hampton Hospital in Hampton, the son of William A. and Mathilda A. (Jass) Otto. He was baptized on September 6, 1931 and confirmed on April 14, 1946 at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Bill was a lifetime member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard, where he served as an Elder.

He graduated from the Hubbard High School in 1950. Bill served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.

On May 31, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Anderson in Camilla, Georgia. Bill farmed all his life and also operated Sherman Elevator Trucking. Upon retiring, he drove a semi-truck for Prairieland Co-op in Hubbard. His hobbies were traveling, gardening, working with his hands, farming and trying his hand at making wine. Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his little sweet pea, Lola.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 52 years, Shirley of Hubbard; two sons, Craig Otto of Houston, Texas and Todd Otto and wife, Brenda of Eagle River, Wisconsin; one daughter, Glynis Hendrickson and husband, Jay of Radcliffe; six grandchildren, Haley Topp and husband, Jason, Cody Hendrickson, Michael Otto, Rena Hendrickson, Zachary Otto and Lucas Otto; one great-granddaughter, Lola; one sister, Betty Rose of Des Moines; longtime friend, Tony Zamudio; and many other family and friends who will dearly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mathilda; and his sister, Cheryl Simmons.

HAMPTON—Mildred Alene Varrelman, 86, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 17, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with Pastor Dick Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services.

Marguerite Julia Blanchard

VINTON—Marguerite Julia Blanchard, 88, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, following an extended illness.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, October 22, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father David Ambrosy as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton, from 4-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, where a vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Known to her family and friends as “Julie,” she was born on February 21, 1919 at Eagle Center, to Frank and Genevieve (McGarvy) Klein. On October 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to L.A. “Bill” Blanchard at Orlando, Florida. The couple made their home in Vinton for many years and retired to Sebring, Florida, in 1988. Bill preceded his wife in death in 1988 and Julie continued to live in Florida until returning to Iowa in 2004.

She loved spending time with friends playing bridge, golfing and traveling. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton.

She is survived by her sons, Tom (Melodie) Blanchard of Inglewood, Colorado, Tim (Marilyn) Blanchard of Iowa Falls, Bill (Dixie) Blanchard of Yakima, Washington and Dan (Jolene) Blanchard of Belle Plaine; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joanne (Jack) Dane of LaPorte City and Betty (Sam) Wyatt of Fontana, California; and her brother, Dick Klein of Waterloo.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.

John J. Murray

IOWA FALLS—John J. Murray, 65, formerly of Ames, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, at 10:30 a.m., at The Cottage Church, rural Buckeye. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church. The Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is entrusted with the arrangements.

John was born on September 2, 1942 in Des Moines, to John and Thelma (Wagley) Murray. He worked as a printer at the DOT in Ames. He enjoyed roller skating, square dancing, NASCAR and was known as the man who made dollar bill shirts. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith at the Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley and then rededicated his life to Christ at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Ames. He lived most of his life in the Ames area and was a 1960 graduate of the Ballard High School.

He is survived by three sons, Lyle (Cindy) Murray of Iowa Falls, Jeff (Silke) Murray of Clarksville, Tennessee and Andy (Laura) Murray of Story City; two daughters, Michele Thamke and fiancée, Jim Walser of Iowa Falls and Sara Anne Clabaugh and her friend, Kevin McGonigle of Jewell; his ex-wife, Flo Murray of Jewell; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra Owings of Ozark, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen; and a brother-in-law, David Owings.

Crystal Rierson

RADCLIFFE—Crystal Rierson, 87, formerly of Radcliffe, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 25, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Radcliffe. The Rev. Brian McNamara will officiate. Burial will be in the Radcliffe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Church Sound System Fund.

Cleeta Crystal Rierson, was born on February 1, 1920 in Unionville, Missouri, to James and Stella (Rouse) Carr. She graduated from high school at Owasa in 1938. She was a star basketball player all four years of high school. On December 23, 1940, Crystal was united in marriage to Wayne Rierson in Radcliffe. They lived and farmed many years in Buckeye Township. Crystal loved working in her flower gardens and driving tractor on the farm. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Radcliffe and had served on the board of trustees and as secretary of the United Methodist Women.

Crystal is survived by her daughter, Barbara Miller and husband, John of Iowa Falls; granddaughter, Victoria Blume and husband, Matt of Kansas City, Missouri; step-granddaughter, Cheryl Clifton and husband, Philip of Pocatello, Idaho; step-great-grandson, Philip Clifton; sister, Reva Granner of Hubbard; sister-in-law, Zoe Rierson of Radcliffe; nieces, Linda Ward and Rita Neville; and nephews, Roger Granner and Clair Rierson.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brother, Glenn Carr; sister, Viola Carr; infant brother, Delmer; infant sister, Wanetta Carr; and brothers-in-law, Dale Rierson and Stanley Granner.

ST. CHARLES, Missouri—Zelpha Lona Noble Smith, 75, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Mount Carmel Senior Living, St. Charles.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 21, at the Baue Funeral and Memorial Center Chapel in St. Charles. Cremation followed the service at the Baue Crematory, with interment in the St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be sent to the Baue Funeral Home for SSM Hospice or Mount Carmel Senior Living Center, St. Charles, Missouri.

Zelpha was born on March 31, 1932 in Iowa Falls, to Elmer Franklin and Keitha Juanita Noble. She was a homemaker and married to Charles Burton Smith. The couple were parents to Shelba, Kevin and Brett.

Zelpha is survived by her daughter, Shelba “Shelley” Brinkmann of St. Peters, Missouri; sons, Kevin Ivan Smith of Lenexa, Kansas and Brett Charles Smith (Elizabeth Watson) of Baldwin City, Kansas; grandsons, Matthew Ryan Brinkmann (Jennifer) and Andrew Nicholas Brinkmann, all of St. Peters; great-grandsons, Tyler Robert Brinkmann and Hunter Okeefe Studer; and sisters, Geraldine Weingart of Whitney, Texas and Dolores Gildner of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles Burton Smith; her parents, Elmer Franklin and Keitha Juanita Noble; brothers, Maurice, Jerry and Dwayne Noble; and sisters, Naomi and Arlene Noble.

Alice J. Blair

ELDORA—Alice J. Blair, 71, of Eldora, passed away on Saturday morning, October 20, 2007, at her home, with her family at her side, following an extended illness.

Per her wishes, Alice was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 10:30 a.m., at the Iowa River Conservation Club (Steamboat Boathouse) in Steamboat Rock. Memorials may be directed in Alice’s name to the Hospice of Hampton, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with the arrangements.

Alice Jean Vestal, was born on July 14, 1936 in Marshall County, the daughter of Floyd and Cyntha (Berk) Vestal. She married Kenneth Blair on May 1, 1954, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Kenneth preceded Alice in death on June 6, 1996.

Alice spent her days volunteering for many organizations including S.H.I.P.P., Hawkeye Valley Area Agency, O.I.L., Pioneer Cemetery, and The Chapel Church, where she served as secretary.

Survivors include her four sons, Jim Blair of Hubbard, Tom (Suzann) Blair of Jewell, Dan (Angela) Blair of Alden and Randy “Joe” Blair of McClelland; one brother, Donald Vestal of Alden; 14 grandchildren; 16+ great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Blair; three brothers, Earl, Marvin and Floyd Jr.; and one sister, Lula Jane.

IOWA FALLS—Cecelia (Ammann) Hansen, 92, of Iowa Falls, died on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at her home.

Memorial Mass Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 24, at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with inurnment at a later date in the St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Cecelia was born on June 6, 1915 in Grant Township, Franklin County, on the family farm. Her parents were John Ammann and Lula (Hanig) Ammann. She graduated from the Geneva High School in 1934. Cecelia was married to Earl G. Hansen on September 22, 1938, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hampton.

Survivors include her son, Curtis John Hansen and wife, Deborah of Baxter; her grandchildren, Brock Hansen and wife, Robin of Baxter and Holly (Hansen) Sandhoff and husband, Jeff of Schaller; her great-grandchildren, Veronica Condon and Morgan Hansen; brother-in-law, Bernard Pfeifer of Iowa Falls; and a sister-in-law, Coletta Ammann of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on July 29, 1989; two brothers, Edward and Peter Ammann; and her sister, Clara (Ammann) Pfeifer.

Bernice A. Allbee

ELDORA—Bernice A. Allbee, 92, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, October 22, 2007, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 25, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.

Bernice was born on February 8, 1915 in Eagle City, the daughter of Clarence D. and Ethel C. (Dougherty) Leggett. She attended Eagle City Country School then graduated from the Iowa Falls High School. On June 16, 1931, she was united in marriage to Ralph R. Allbee in South Dakota.

Bernice was employed by the Rissi Miller Corporation for many years, and she also maintained her husband’s REA Express Route while Ralph was serving in the U.S. Navy. She prepared taxes for several individuals and worked as a bookkeeper for Walters Real Estate. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora and the VFW Auxiliary. Bernice enjoyed serving as a homemaker for her husband and extended family.

Surviving is her sister, Bessie Nehring of Owasa; daughter-in-law, Donna Allbee of Eldora; grandchildren, Steve (Robin) Allbee of Eldora, Mark (Deborah) Allbee of Temecula, California, Cathy (Mike) Fife of Penasquitas, California, Ralph J. (Lynn) Allbee of Eldora, Annette (Danny) Duncan of Sonora, California and Liz Allbee Wolfe of Eldora; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. on November 27, 2006; her parents; son, Ives Allbee; brothers, Laurel, Ives and Glenn Leggett; and sister, Delma Berens.

Ilene was born on March 30, 1933 in Clarion, to George and Lulu Ruth (Beer) Kelling. She attended the St. John's Catholic School in Clarion. She married Kenneth Gardalen on April 8, 1951 in Clarion. Ilene was a homemaker.

She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer. Ilene loved to write letters to pen pals, bake pies and cookies, and collect salt and pepper shakers and stuffed animals.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Gardalen of Latimer; daughters, Eleanor Dudley of Latimer and Linda Christensen of Estherville; twin sister, Irene Fitz of Iowa Falls; brothers, Charles Kelling of Texas, Joseph Kelling of Eagle Grove, Raymond Kelling of Fort Dodge and Richard Kelling of Forest City; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, George Jr. and Robert.

Max R. Higgason Sr.

ELDORA—Max R. Higgason Sr., 91, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora, while under the care of the Hospice of North Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 30, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial followed in the East Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora, with military honors provided by the Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center or the Hospice of North Iowa. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora was in charge of the arrangements.

Max was born on March 18, 1916 in Union, the son of Walter and LaVera (Hammer) Higgason. He attended country school near Union, then high school in Eldora. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. On October 1, 1937, Max was united in marriage to Gladys N. Clark at Mount Pleasant Church, rural Eldora.

He worked as parts manager at Wood Auto of Eldora for more than 50 years, and many nights and weekends were spent at the dealership fixing his children’s cars. Max retired in 1978.

He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, where he served as a deacon and trustee, Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion, Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW and the Pine Lake Country Club. Max enjoyed gardening, and during retirement cutting firewood, golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; sons, Max Jr. and wife, Nancy of Eldora, Jerry and wife, Dee of Urbandale and Denny and wife, Linda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, Bettie Dix of Iowa Falls; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Avonelle, Frances and Arlene; and brothers, Wallace, Orville, Verne, William and Ronald.

IOWA FALLS—Lester H. Trickey, 99, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at the Scenic Manor Care Facility in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 31, at the Owasa United Methodist Church in Owasa. Pastor Ward Richards Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Owasa United Methodist Church or the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls. Lester Henry Trickey, was born on May 29, 1908 in Hardin County, to Frank and Anna (Fletcher) Trickey. He graduated from the Owasa Consolidated School in 1929. On Decembr 19, 1931, he was united in marriage to Maxine Moore at Eldora. To this union two sons were born, Gary and Donald.

Lester lived in the Owasa area on the Trickey family farm. He moved to Iowa Falls and then was employed as a maintenance worker for the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. He was a trustee for the Owasa Methodist Church for many years.

Lester is survived by two sons, Gary and wife, Elinor of Fort Dodge and Donald and wife, Kay of Kimberling City, Missouri; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Trickey; his wife, Maxine on January 13, 1998; one grandson, Brent Trickey; and two brothers, Charles and Clifford Trickey.

IOWA FALLS—Audrey Forr, 58, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 1, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, New Jersey. It was Audrey’s wishes that memorials be directed to the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Audrey J. Forr, was born on July 12, 1949 in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Mooney) Donegan. On January 21, 1968, Audrey was united in marriage to Robert Forr in Harrison, New Jersey. She was a wife, homemaker and owner of Tops and Bottoms in Iowa Falls.

Audrey is survived by her husband, Robert of Iowa Falls; a daughter, Sherry Lundgren of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a son, Michael Forr of Eugene, Oregon; and three grandchildren, Samantha, Bobby and Mark.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Michael Allen Knode

MADRID—Michael A. “Mike” Knode, 47, of Madrid, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, with his family at his side following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 2, at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Graveside services were held on Friday at the Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls.

Mike was born on September 25, 1960, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, to Harvey and Kathryn (Schaper) Knode. He attended school at Iowa Falls, married Jeri Maxwell and they later divorced. On June 22, 1991, Mike was united in marriage to Lisa Dalton in Madrid.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, stock car racing and NASCAR. Mike loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He worked many years in the meat processing industry and most recently was employed with The Cedars of Madrid.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Knode; four daughters, Dawn (Brad) Kinzie, Tracy (Jesse) Walker and Whitney and Micaela Knode; one son, Andrew Knode; his mother, step-father and sister, Sheryl Jaber, all of Iowa Falls; five-plus grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his father; brother, Randy; and his grandparents.
