DUMONT—Elizabeth "Lizzie"
Mae Noelting, 90, of Dumont, passed away on Thursday,
November 1, 2007, at her home in Dumont.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 6, at the
New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, with burial in
the Dumont Cemetery. Pastor Jay Amundson officiated. The
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont was in charge of the
arrangements.

CHARLES DANIEL ROELFS

SPRING VALLEY, California—Charles Daniel Roelfs, 66, of
Spring Valley, California, died on Friday, November 2, 2007,
at San Diego, California.
The body will be cremated with the cremains returned to
Ackley for burial at a later date. A visitation service with
the family will be held on Friday, November 9, from 5-7:00
p.m., and a memorial service will be on Saturday, November
10, at 10:30 a.m., both at the First United Methodist Church
in Ackley.
Charlie was born on
September 2, 1941, the son of Jarthy and Dorothy Heitland
Roelfs of Ackley. He attended the Ackley-Geneva School,
where he graduated in 1961. He signed up with the Naval
Reserves the summer of 1960, between his junior and senior
year of high school.
Upon graduating, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy on active
duty. He went to Great Lakes, Illinois for boot camp, and
traveled all over the world during his 20 years in the Navy,
serving his country proudly. The ships Charlie was stationed
on included the USS Cook, USS Sperry, USS Milwaukee, USS
Sylvania and USS Ruchamkin. One of his ships also did a tour
of duty in Vietnam to the Gulf of Tonkin around 1965. He was
an interior communications specialist and spent several
years teaching electrical classes at the San Diego Naval
Training Center.
Charlie was a man of few
words but meant what he said. He loved his family, spending
time with friends, the Navy, Scooby Doo and relaxing on his
sister, Mary's patio when he came home in the summer. He was
proud when three of his brothers, Lyle, Orrie and Mike, also
joined the Navy. Throughout his travels all over the world,
Charlie's favorite place was still his small hometown.
Charlie is survived by his
mother, Dorothy of Ackley; brothers, Dean, Lyle and Orrie,
all of Ackley; sister, Mary of Ackley; and his very special
friend, Patti Holmes of Spring Valley.
He was preceded in death by his father: and brother, Mike.

formerly of Steamboat Rock, died on Saturday, November 3,
2007, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday,
November 8, at the First Baptist Church of Eldora. Burial
will follow in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation is
5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home
in Eldora.

IOWA FALLS—Helen Newton, 91, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the Israel Family Hospice
House, Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday,
November 13, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls,
with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial will be in the
Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Helen Marie Hanson, was
born on October 7, 1916 in Hamilton County, the daughter of
Harry and Mabel (Olson) Hanson. She attended country grade
school and graduated from the Randall High School with the
class of 1934.
On June 28, 1939, Helen was united in marriage to John Ross
"Rope" Newton at Ellsworth. To this union two children were
born, Sherrill and Jon. She was employed at the Red Rooster
Cafe, Iowa Falls, the Snook Clearers, Iowa Falls and for
more than 20 years with Wallen McAdams Clothiers, Iowa
Falls. She also sold Avon products. She was a member of the
Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.
Helen Newton is survived
by her daughter, Sherrill Payton of Iowa Falls; her son, Jon
(Kim) Newton of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren, Heather
Newton, Carey (Brandon) Butler, Courtney Kappel and friend,
Mike Miller, Kylie Newton, Seth Newton and Tanner Newton,
all of Iowa Falls; eight great-grandchildren, Tate
Scroggins, Jayden Thelke, Sidney Butler, Ashton Piersol,
Zach Piersol, Kortland Nehring, Kenlie Vaughn and Jenna
Miller, all of Iowa Falls; seven step-grandchildren in
California; and one sister, Ruth Erbes of Story City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mabel
Hanson; her husband, Ross Newton; three sisters, Mildred
Miller, Ione Hanson and Doris Knapp; and four brothers,
Curtis Hanson, Willard Hanson, Donald Hanson and Mervyn
Hanson.

ACKLEY—Lyle R. Drew, 80, of Ackley, died on Monday,
November 5, 2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in
Iowa Falls.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday,
November 8, at the St. John's UCC in Ackley, with burial in
the Oakwood Cemetery. Military rites will be given by the
Elliot-Keninger Post No. 252 of Ackley. Visitation will be
from 5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Sietsema Funeral Home
in Ackley.
Lyle R. Drew, was born on
June 22, 1927, at Brazil, Iowa, the son of Francis Sr. and
Bessie Entsmeinger Drew. He received his education at Ackley
and graduated from the Ackley High School. Lyle had served
his country in the U.S. Army.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Hofmeister on August 22,
1947, at St. Peter's UCC in Geneva. Lyle was the owner and
operator of Drews DX in Ackley from 1954 until his
retirement in 1993. Lyle was a member of the St. John's UCC
in Ackley, Masonic Lodge and the Ackley Country Club.
Survivors include his
wife, Gladys of Ackley; daughters, Pat Howell and husband,
Gary and their daughter, Ivy Howell of River Forest,
Illinois and Marcia Schipper and husband, Clarence and their
sons, Rusty Schipper and wife, Jessica of Waterloo and Ryley
Schipper of Ackley; two brothers, Francis Drew Jr. of Ackley
and Paul Drew of Murray, Kentucky; and two sisters-in-law,
Helen Drew of San Marcos, Texas, and Jo Lamar of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and three brothers.

ELDORA-Herman "Jim" F. Schultz, 95, of Eldora, died on
Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab
Center of Eldora, while under the care of the Iowa Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday,
November 10, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with
Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in East
Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. The
Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is
in charge of the arrangements.
Jim was born on October 6,
1912, on his family's farm in Jackson Township, rural
Eldora, the son of Max F. and Martha (Schwebke) Schultz. He
attended the Eldora High School and Iowa State University,
earning a boiler maintenance degree. On December 18, 1935,
he was united in marriage to Louise Roll at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church Parsonage.
Jim worked as a faun hand
and leased a service station in Eldora. He then worked at
Wood Auto Co. as a mechanic, then at the Eldora Hospital as
maintenance engineer, retiring in 1979. Jim's wife, Louise
died on November 28, 1984 and on May 10, 1986, Jim married
Dorothy Lawson Schwebke in Las Vegas.
Surviving are his wife,
Dorothy; daughters, Lola (Walter) Reinert of Hubbard and
Maxine (Max) Daleske of Eldora; step-children, Ronald
(Sandra) Schwebke of Des Moines, Patricia (Dennis) McKenna
of Eldora and Rick Schwebke of Lancaster, California;
step-daughter-in-law, Barbara Schwebke of Palmdale,
California; eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren:
six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; three
step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents;
brother, Carl Schultz; infant twin brother and sister, Max
and Martha; sister, Dorothy Houck; half-sister, Irene Meyer;
great-grandson, Ian Josiah Daleske-Ford; step-son, Roger
Schwebke; and step-great-great-granddaughter, Brandy
Schwebke.

Bill was formerly of this
area and worked at the O.K. Tire Store in Iowa Falls for 10

IOWA FALLS—Florence Klein,
89, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, November 9, 2007, at the
Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
November 14, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden,
with burial to follow in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls
Funeral Home in Alden is in charge of the arrangements.
Florence G. Klein, was
born on March 15, 1918 at Dows, the daughter of Lars and
Anna Douvre Schager. She received her early education in
Dows and graduated from the Dows High School with the class
of 1937. She married Herman Klein on October 12, 1941, at
the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden.
Florence was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,
Ladies Aid and Fellowship Club. In addition to being a
homemaker, Florence was an extraordinary women who loved her
family very much. She had many friends and would do anything
for anyone. She was a great cook, and the children and
grandchildren always knew they could expect a great meal
while at mom’s and grandma’s.
Survivors include her
children, Corwyn Klein and Carol of Iowa Falls, Steve Klein
and wife, Lori of Alden and Colleen Good and husband, Thomas
of Pilot Mound; sister, Helma Hofsommer of Spencer;
grandchildren, Joy (Brian) Culberson of Cedar Falls, Allison
(Jordan) Fisher of Boone, Janelle (Jared) DeMeulenaere of
Cedar Rapids, Brent Tjarks of Washington, D.C., Sena Ornelas
of Independence, Missouri, Paula (Jeff) Tripp of Alden,
Samantha (Brian) Hansen of Alden, Patty (Zach) Tapscott of
Peru, Illinois, Matt Klein of Iowa Falls and Jerry (Kelly)
Hartema of Alden; step-grandchildren, Danny, Scott and
Whitney Jass of Alden, Wade (Robin) Good of Boone, Matthew (Jessi)
Good of Rochester, Minnesota and Adam and Aaron Good of
Boone; 23 great-grandchildren; four
step-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Mary Schager,
Edna Sanders, Doris Rieks, Lillian Locke and Mavis Klein,
all of Iowa Falls and Esther Pfeffer of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband;

Pastor Corey Larson of the First Congregational United

WILLIAMS—Marie Ricke, 102, of Williams, died on Saturday,
November 10, 2007, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, November 13, at the St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams, with burial in the St.
Mary’s Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Chapel of Williams was in
charge of the arrangements.
Marie Elizabeth Ricke,
daughter of Charles L. and Elizabeth Kerber Froehlich, was
born on September 28, 1905 at Bloomington, Illinois. The
family moved to Wesley in the spring of 1913, where they
resided on a farm west of Wesley. After graduation from the
Wesley High School, Marie attended Iowa State Teachers
College in Cedar Falls. She taught rural schools in the
Wesley and Doane areas.
She married Lawrence J. Ricke on January 2, 1928 in Wesley.
They made their home at Williams on a farm northwest of
Williams until 1953, when they moved to Williams. The Rickes
had five children, Lawrence Jr., who was killed in an
automobile accident in 1948, John Ricke, who, with his
family, resides on the family farm, a Century Farm in 1983,
Diane Pinkerton of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Ramona
Welden of Iowa Falls and Virginia Ricke of Colorado Springs,
Colorado. Marie built a new home in 1978, where she still
resided.
In 1962, she was deputy
county auditor of Hamilton County for 10 years, retiring in
1972. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Williams, where she sang in the choir for 47 years, soloing
for most funerals and weddings. She was past president of
the Webster City Business and Professional Women, a member
of Crippled Children, KYN Club, ACCW and an active member of
the Hamilton County Democratic Club.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Lawrence in 1956; one son, Lawrence Jr. in
1948; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, John and Betty Ricke of
Williams, Ramona Welden of Iowa Falls, Diane Fugate
Pinkerton of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Virginia
Ricke of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Froehlich of Wesley
and Edward Froehlich of Pensacola, Florida; and one sister,
Helen Huber of Algona.
The previous obituary was
written by Marie in about 1985. Addendum: In 1990 she began
to divide her time between Williams and Yuma, Arizona. She
remained in her home in Williams until 2002 when she moved
to Ashbrook Assisted Living in Iowa Falls. Virginia now
resides in Ames, Diane Fugate Pinkerton Castor still resides
in Hot Springs, Arkansas, John and Betty moved to Lake
Cornelia near Clarion and Ramona still resides in Iowa
Falls. The only surviving sibling is Helen Huber of Algona.
Marie now has 35 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.

ACKLEY—Debbie J. (Kubitz) Stubbe, 51, of Ackley, and
formerly of New Albin, died as the result of a traffic
accident on Sunday, November 11, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday,
November 14, at the St. Joseph Church in New Albin, with Fr.
Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph
Cemetery in New Albin. The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in
Lansing is assisting the family.
Debbie was born in La
Crosse, Wisconsin, on June 30, 1956 to Richard and Teresa
(Mitchell) Kubitz. She married Randy Stubbe on July 31, 2004
at Eldora. She worked as a dietary aide at the Scenic Manor
Nursing Home in Iowa Falls and was a student at Buena Vista
College in Iowa Falls.
She is survived by her
spouse, Randy Stubbe of Ackley; two children, Kenny (Jenny)
Mulholland of Caledonia, Minnesota and Michelle (Marvin)
Lievano of Waukon; four grandchildren, Anthony Kubitz and
Teresa and Viviana Lievano of Waukon and Annabelle
Mulholland of Caledonia; and five siblings, Leon “Mike”
Kubitz and friend, Sarah Sisk of Lansing, Lawrence “Joe”
(Sandra) Kubitz of New Albin, Lyndon (Wendy) Kubitz of New
Albin, Terrie (Randy) Roth of Coldwater, Michigan and Dawn
(Mark) Tewes of Caledonia.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and one niece.

Doris was born on January
19, 1930 in Coggan, the daughter of John and Etta (Kurth)
Saathoff. She graduated from the Bode High School. On
November 26, 1950, Doris was united in marriage to William
Jass at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden.
She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and
Ladies Aid and had worked as a home health aide.
Doris is survived by her
daughter, Jane Dunning and husband, Tom of Alden; three
sons, Michael Jass and wife, LeAnn of Garden Grove, John
Jass and wife, Pam of Van Wert, and David Jass and wife,
Darcie of Alden; 17 grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Thatcher of Bode
and Norma Vestweber of Goldfield.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, William; a son, Chris; a
granddaughter, Amy; and two brothers, Duane and Jackie.

Judith Eileen Meier, was
born on November 1, 1947 in Hampton, the daughter of Wayne
and Roberta (Elder) Meier. She graduated from the Hubbard
High School and received her B.S. Degree from Cornell
College in Mount Vernon. She worked as a social worker
before becoming disabled.
Judith is survived by her
mother, Roberta Meier of Iowa Falls; a brother, Dr. Les
Meier and wife, Diane of Iowa Falls; three nephews, Nathan
Meier and wife, Meghan of Bettendorf, Matthew Meier and
wife, Laura of Urbandale and Jordan Meier of San Diego,
California; an uncle and aunt, Robert Elder and wife, Martha
of West Des Moines; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell
Kulow of Hubbard; an aunt, Gladys Winters of Iowa Falls; and
a special friend, Mary Judge of Ames.

Evelyn Mae Welchko, was
born on April 24, 1920 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of
William and Gladys Welchko. She attended the Iowa Falls
Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1937. She
was married to Ray Siedsma (later divorced) and to this
union two sons, Donald and Robert, were born. On February
26, 1956, Evelyn was united in marriage to Edward G. Hartema
at the First Baptist Church, Hampton.
Evelyn was a homemaker and
did volunteer driving to take people to their doctor’s
appointments. Evelyn was a member of the Bethel Baptist
Church, Iowa Falls, and a longtime member of the former
Church of the Nazarene, Iowa Falls, where she was a board
member and was also Treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship.
Evelyn Hartema is survived
by her son, Robert (Renee) Siedsma of Salmon, Idaho; two
step-daughters, Linda (Jon) Larson of Iowa Falls and Dorothy
(Rod) Johnson of Spirit Lake; five step-grandchildren; eight
step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marian Newton
of Iowa Falls, Kathryn Herteen of Des Moines and Shirley
Shepherd of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, William and Gladys Welchko; her husband,
Edward G. Hartema; a son, Donald Siedsma; a step-son, Gary
Hartema; one sister, Arlene Diemer; a brother, William R.
Welchko; and three brothers-in-law, Melvin Newton, Harold
Diemer and Cecil Shepherd.

IOWA FALLS—Mildred Mae Lieser, 80, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the Mercy Medical
Center, Des Moines.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday,
November 23, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls.
Inurnment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A
time of visitation will be from noon until service time on
Friday at the funeral home.
Mildred Mae Butler, was
born on July 17, 1927 at New Providence, the daughter of
Charles W. and Ina Pearl (Sizemore) Lieser. She attended the
Union Community Schools. On August 24, 1948, Mildred was
united in marriage to Herbert Wesley Lieser at Eldora. She
was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Mildred Lieser is survived
by her children, James Wesley (Dawn) Lieser of Iowa Falls,
Sharon Lea (Leonard) Grimm of Iowa Falls, Pamela Kay (Kent)
Lewis of Glenwood and Amy Mae (Randy) Christensen of Iowa
Falls; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Patti Sizemore of Green Castle, Missouri and Mary
Butler of Marshalltown; and two brothers, James Butler of
West Patterson, New Jersey and George Butler of Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ina
Butler; her husband, Herbert W. Lieser; six brothers; and
three sisters.

STEAMBOAT ROCK—Darrell Montgomery, 76, of Steamboat Rock,
passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at his home,
under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday,
November 21, at the First Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, with
the Rev. David Schwechel officiating. Burial will be in the
Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s
Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of the arrangements.
Darrell Ray Montgomery,
was born on May 31, 1931 at Iowa Falls, the son of Charles
“Carlos” D. and Elva Fay (Whipple) Montgomery. He attended
the Alden Community Schools. On November 14, 1949, he was
united in marriage to Arlene Evelyn MacKaben at Webster
City. He served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 serving
in the Korean War.
Darrell was employed at the Black Seed Farms, Ames, and then
as a custodian with the Radcliffe Community Schools, the
Steamboat Rock Community Schools and then with the Valley
View Nursing Home, Eldora. He loved being with his family
and friends and also loved to dance to old-time music,
polkas and waltzes.
Darrell is survived by his
wife, Arlene Montgomery of Steamboat Rock; three daughters,
Twyla Eighmey of Iowa Falls, Dawn Montgomery of Steamboat
Rock and Lesa (Bill) Cooper of Ackley; three sons, Allen
(Sue) Montgomery of Toms River, New Jersey, Arlen (Renee)
Montgomery of White Settlement, Texas and Kevin (Angie)
Montgomery of Beaman/Conrad; 10 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; one brother, Dallas (Louise) Montgomery
of Iowa Falls; and one sister, Darlene (Lyle) Thompson of
Alden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Elva
Montgomery; one brother, Duane Montgomery; and one
son-in-law, Bill Eighmey.

November 20, 2007, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday,
November 24, at the Washington Reformed Church, Ackley, with
burial in the church cemetery. The Sietsema Funeral Home in
Ackley is in charge of the arrangements.
Mattie Green, was born on
May 5, 1918 in Ackley, the daughter of Ebbel W. and Johanna
(Ennen) Gerzema. She was confirmed at the St. Peter’s Church
in Geneva and attended the Grant Township School in rural
Ackley. Mattie was united in marriage to Sam Green on
December 20, 1944, at the Washington Reformed Church in
Ackley. She was a member of the Washington Reformed Church
and the Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her
sister, Lena Gerzema of Ackley; three brothers, Arthur,
Harvey and Ebbel Gerzema, all of Ackley; a sister-in-law,
Vera Gerzema of Iowa Falls; and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Sam; three sisters, Hattie Heins
and husband, Albert, Grace Poley and husband, Ewald, and
Johanna Lemke and husband, Lavern; and five brothers, Matt,
Claus, Fred, John and George Gerzema.

STEAMBOAT ROCK—Donna Bell Jaspers, 69, of Steamboat Rock,
died from natural causes on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at
her home, under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, at
the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Pastor
Harrison Lippert, Dr. Dennis Dewey and Dr. Randy Jaspers
will officiate. Burial will follow in the Steamboat Rock
Cemetery. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in
charge of the arrangements.
Donna Bell Jaspers, was
born on October 12, 1938 in Marshalltown, the daughter of
Wesley Ray and Lottie Martha (Plum) Campbell. Donna was
raised in the Owasa area, attending elementary school at the
Jackson Township County School and later attending the Owasa
High School, graduating in 1956.
On March 30, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ivan
Wendell Jaspers at the Owasa United Methodist Church. Ivan
and Donna lived south of Eldora from 1958 until 1965. Then
they moved to their present residence north of Steamboat
Rock. Ivan and Donna farmed together for 49 1/2 years. They
also owned Riverside Hydraulics. Donna was a very active
member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church, where she was a
Sunday School Teacher, on the Missionary Guild and a member
of the Small Groups.
She is survived by her
husband, Ivan; a son, Randy and wife, Kristy Jaspers of
Jamestown, North Dakota; three daughters, Connie and
husband, Don Rose of Owasa, Becky Sneed of Liscomb and Deb
and husband, Toby Gordon of Sperry; 12 grandchildren, Mark,
Michael and wife, Adrienne, Ryan, Lisa and Karen Jaspers,
Sarah and husband, Karl Sneath, Jonathan, Timothy, Lydia and
Esther Rose, Zachary and Emma Gordon; three
great-grandchildren, Ellie Jaspers and Josiha and Annalynn
Sneath; and one sister, Iva Ann (Gast) and husband, Henry
Rose of Eldora.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Ray and Lottie Campbell; her son, David
Jaspers; a brother, Carlton Campbell; and a son-in-law,
Stanley Sneed.

ALDEN—Verdelle Ellingson, 87, of Alden, died on Thursday,
November 22, 2007, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 26, at the
Immanuel Memorial UCC in Alden, with burial in the Alden
Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of
the arrangements.
Verdelle
Ellingson, was born on July 19, 1920, on the family farm at
Alden, the daughter of Roy and Lila (Ranger) Gilmore. She
graduated from the Alden High School. On March 6, 1941,
Verdelle was united in marriage to Elmer Ellingson at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of the
Immanuel Memorial UCC in Alden, Women’s Fellowship, and
various other organizations. She also enjoyed playing cards
with her Supper Club.
Verdelle
is survived by her three sons, Dean and wife, Josie of Storm
Lake, Dallas and special friend, Pam Wilson of Alden and
Scott and wife, Cynthia of Alden; six grandchildren, Derek
Ellingson and special friend, Lori Fite, Keri and husband,
Jason Schuelke, Sara and husband, Bo Balvanz, Jay Ellingson,
Molly Ellingson and fiancée, Shane Strachan and Josh
Ellingson and fiancée, Jen Muller; seven
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and Marie Gilmore of
Iowa Falls and Bob and Gerene Gilmore of Webster City;
several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many
close friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and husband, Elmer.

HAMPTON—Larry Windelow, 75, of Hampton, went home with the
Lord on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Franklin General
Hospital in Hampton.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at
10:30 a.m., at the Lighthouse of Life in Hampton. Pastor
Merle Wagner will be officiating. Visitation will be from
9:30 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday. The
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
Larry was born on May 16,
1932 in Hampton, to Donald L. and Flossie Mae (Fischer)
Windelow. He graduated from the Hampton High School. He
served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Larry
married Joan W. Fink on December 19, 1954, at the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Hampton. He was in gas construction with
Mid American Energy Company for 43 years.
Larry was a member of the Lighthouse of Life in Hampton. He
enjoyed trains, mowing lawns, tilling gardens, coffee, apple
pie and a free meal.
Larry is survived by his
wife, Joan Windelow of Hampton; son, Tim and wife, Teresa
Windelow of Iowa Falls; daughter, Teri Windelow and fiancée,
Greg Smith of Carbondale, Colorado; daughter, Tami and
husband, Greg Naber of Hamilton, Illinois; daughter, Traci
Vanderhart of Pella; sister, Pat Kallas of Mapleton; close
friend, Rick Hayes; 14 grandchildren, Erin, Jesse, Nathan,
Mattie, Leah, Alicia, Victoria, Tammy, Nikki, Josh, Kayla,
Ryan, Steven and Jenny; and eight great-grandchildren,
Isabella, Bailey, Kamden, A.J., Eiley, Taylor, Aiden and
James.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne;
and brother, Steven.

IOWA FALLS—Darlene J. Pommrehn, 76, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Monday, November 26, 2007, at the Iowa Methodist
Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday,
November 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa
Falls, with Pastor Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will be
in the Alden Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 10
a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the
church. Memorials may be directed to the Ellsworth Hospital
Auxiliary, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home is in charge
of the arrangements.
Darlene June Hackbarth,
was born on January 22, 1931, the daughter of Carroll
Earnest and Edna Elizabeth (Meyer) Hackbarth at Popejoy.
Shortly thereafter the family moved to Iowa Falls where
Darlene attended school, graduating from the Iowa Falls High
School with the class of 1949.
On June 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald Oscar
Pommrehn at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls.
To this union two children were born, John and Susan.
Darlene worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company,
Iowa Falls, was a salesperson for Avon Products for 17
years, and then became co-owner of Hoffman Hobbies, Iowa
Falls. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church, Iowa Falls, and the Ellsworth Hospital Auxiliary,
Iowa Falls, serving as a Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop worker
and buyer for many years. She was also active in Cub Scouts.
Darlene Pommrehn is
survived by her husband, Donald Pommrehn of Iowa Falls; her
children, John (Vicki) Pommrehn of Columbia, Missouri and
Susan (Larry) Jaenke of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Arlene Thompson of
Storm Lake; and her second mother, Edna Allen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Edna
Hackbarth; her granddaughter, PO2 Jaime S. Jaenke; and her
brother-in-law, Orville Thompson.

GENEVA—Steven
Arthur Hill, 59, of Geneva, died on Monday, November 26,
2007, at Williamsburg.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 30, at the
Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the
Alden Cemetery. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in
charge of the arrangements.
Steven was born on March 2, 1948 at Dows,
the son of Arthur and Ilene Hill. He received his elementary
education in the Dows School and graduated from the Iowa
Falls High School with the class of 1966. He married Sandra
Elkin on June 28, 1970, at Iowa Falls.
Steve farmed in the Geneva area and was also the owner and
operator of Steve Hill Trucking. Steve was a member of the
Methodist Church in Hampton and the Franklin County
Cattlemen’s Association. Steve was a past member of the
Hansell Methodist Church, and a youth group leader, board
member and president of the church board. Steve was a past
4-H member and leader, was active in FFA while in high
school, and coached youth baseball and basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of
Geneva; two sons, Matt Hill and wife, Jennifer of Iowa Falls
and Brian Hill of Iowa Falls; a daughter, Lisa Flack of
Hampton; three sisters, Janice Gregory and husband, Dr.
Richard of Vermillion, South Dakota, Janet Kauffman and
husband, Larry of Ankeny and Judy Duckett and husband,
Ronald of Randalia; one brother, Stan Hill of Cedar Rapids;
eight grandchildren, Mary Jane, Ryan, Ashley, Alexis,
Makenzie, Caroline, Mattilyn and Briana; and one son-in-law,
Brian Flack of Bradford.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Arthur and Ilene Hill; mother-in-law, Caroline Elkin;
brother-in-law, Mike Elkin; and sister-in-law, Jane Elkin.

Holmes Ainslie, 81, a former resident of Iowa Falls,
currently of Tempe, Arizona, passed away on Monday, November
26, 2007, in Tempe.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 1, at the Tempe
Mortuary, Tempe. A graveside service will be held at 9:30
a.m., on Tuesday, December 4, at the Garden of Memories
Cemetery, Waterloo, in the Masonic section, since Patricia
was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Local funeral
arrangements are by the Garden View Chapel of Waterloo.
Patricia is survived by
her children, Joanne Frye, Kenneth Ainslie, Mary Frost,
Kathleen Nawi, Peggy Schlesinger, Pamela Rodgers and Barbara
Glenn; her brother, William Eberhardt; her sister, Mary Roed;

IOWA FALLS—Jean Thines, 90, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday,
November 27, 2007, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 30, at the
St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the
church cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls was in
charge of the arrangements.
Jean Elizabeth Thines, was
born on July 15, 1917 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Peter
and Kathryn (Nolan) Thines. She was baptized at the St.
Mark’s Catholic Church at the age of 2 days. She graduated
from the Iowa Falls High School in 1934. She started
studying music at the age of 7 under the direction of Mrs.
Bullock.
She was a member of the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, and
later in life she played the organ and piano for the St.
Mark’s Catholic Church for 12 years. She lived all her life
in Iowa Falls with her brother, Andrew. After his death she
moved to an apartment in Iowa Falls. After six years in the
apartment she moved to the Scenic Manor Nursing Home. She
enjoyed having the neighbor children come around to talk and
be with her. She was an excellent gardener. She never shied
away from work. She was still pushing a lawn mower in her
late 70s.
Jean is survived by many
Thines and Nolan cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death
by her mother, Kathryn; father, Peter; step-mother,
Margaret; and her brother, Andrew.

IOWA FALLS—Earl Edward
Geitz Sr., 67, of Williams, died on Wednesday, November 28,
2007, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday,
December 3, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls,
with burial in the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation
will be from 2-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Surls Funeral
Home in Iowa Falls.
Earl was born on May 17,
1940 in Webster City, the son of Walter and Helen (Biermann)
Geitz. He graduated from the Williams High School and Iowa
State University. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard.
On April 5, 1964, Earl was united in marriage to Gerri
Turner at the First Methodist Church in Eagle Grove.
Earl’s first love was being a farmer and also driving a
semi-truck later in life. He was a member of the North Iowa
Antique Tractor Club, Iowa Draft Pony Association, Pony of
America Association, Iowa High School Athletic Association,
Iowa Pork Producers and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Webster City.
The activities Earl enjoyed in his life were driving a Ford
Coupe race car, and playing fast-pitch softball with the
Kamrar Merchant Softball Team and slow-pitch softball with
the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church League Team. Earl was a high
school baseball/softball umpire, superintendent of the Horse
Barn at the Hamilton County Fair, a 4-H Leader and showed
draft ponies at the Iowa State Fair. Earl loved watching and
attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and
sporting events.
Earl is survived by his
wife, Gerri; two sons, Ed and wife, Cheri of Iowa Falls and
their children, Katie, Rebecca and Alex; and Rick and wife,
Stef of McLean, Illinois; a daughter, Deann Geistler and
husband, Jim of Norwalk and their children, Michael and
Daniel; a sister, Janet (Geitz) Behn and husband, Bill of
Marion; and nephew, Jason Strohman of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother,
Robert Geitz.

Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Presbyterian Village in
Ackley, while under the care of the Iowa Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday,
December 3, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg,
with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow in
the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 3-6:00 p.m., with
the family present to greet friends at the Doyen-Abels
Funeral Home in Wellsburg.

Rouen Alice Allan

ALLISON—Rouen Alice Allan, 85, of Allison, passed away at
the Waverly Hospital’s Hospice Unit on Friday, November 30,
2007.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 2, at the St.
James Lutheran Church in Allison. The Rev. Jeffrey Blank
officiated. Burial was in the Allison Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley
Hospice and St. James Lutheran Church. The Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home in Allison was in charge of the arrangements.
Rouen Alice (Martin)
Allan, was born on August 28, 1922, the third child of John
J. and Hazel (Pauley) Martin, in Jackson Township, Butler
County. She attended elementary and middle school at the
Jackson Township No. 2 country school. She graduated from
the Clarksville High School in 1940 and was the salutatorian
of her class. In the summer of 1940, she attended Iowa State
Teachers College (now UNI) to obtain her teaching
certificate, which she earned in three months. She also
attended Wartburg College in the summer of 1941 to renew her
teaching credentials.
She taught country school at the same country school she had
attended, Jackson Township No. 2, from 1940-43. She then
moved to Allison and worked in the Butler County Clerk of
Court’s Office from the fall of 1943 until the fall of 1945.
After tending to her children, she re-entered the work force
in 1955 as a bookkeeper for Allan Chevrolet (later Allan
Chevrolet and Oldsmobile) in Allison. It was the business
her husband’s uncle, J. Francis (Hiney) Allan, started in
1929. Her husband Jim also worked for and then took over
management of the dealership in 1961. Rouen worked there
until the business was sold in 1969. In 1970, Rouen went to
work as a library assistant for the Clarksville Community
Schools. She retired from that position in May of 1986.
Rouen married James
Frerichs Allan on December 28, 1941, at the United Church of
Christ in Clarksville. Rouen and Jim were the parents of two
children, Rebecca Jane and John Henry. Rouen loved gardening
out at the “farm” (her birth place). She loved collecting
antiques. She also enjoyed quilting. Rouen was given great
joy by the seven grandchildren she was able to see grow to
adulthood. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church
for nearly 50 years. She will be truly missed by her family
and friends.
Rouen is survived by her
daughter, Rebecca (George) Maurer of Spirit Lake and son,
John (Maureen) Allan of Iowa Falls; sister, Jean Johnson
Fowler of Sun City West, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Jill
Tait, Jamee Klein, Geoff Maurer, Sara Husarik, Heather
Allan, Elizabeth Allan and James C. Allan; three
step-children, Eric Wiechmann, Ethan Wiechmann and Emily
Wiechmann; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, James F. Allan; her parents, John J. and
Hazel Martin; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emmett
and Flora Allan; her sister, Mae Wilhelm; and her brother,
Glen Martin.

WELLSBURG—Gertie Bunger, 90, of Wellsburg, died on Friday,
November 30, 2007, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley,
while under the care of North Iowa Hospice.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 4, at the
United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with Pastor Harold
Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Cemetery
in Wellsburg. The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was
in charge of the arrangements.
