May 27, 2006, page 8

IOWA FALLS—Willis “Willie” Wubbena, 72, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Ellsworth Hospital, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 25, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with burial in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Willis D. Wubbena, was born on January 14, 1934 near Sheffield, to John Ralph and Martha Ann (Viet) Wubbena. He attended grade school in Coulter and then the Franklin Consolidated School. He drove a milk truck route, worked as a carpenter for Owen Hensing and when he met Connie, he was operating his own feed grinder. He moved to Iowa Falls in 1955 and worked for the Standorf Cabinet Shop and then many years for Copeland and Sunken. In 1964, he began Wubbena Construction and built many homes in Iowa Falls until 1981, when he was forced to close out the business due to health. He had also built several commercial buildings during this time and had rental apartments and commercial buildings.

Will married Connie Caslavka on February 18, 1956 and they had a family celebration of their 50th anniversary this year. They are the parents of three children, Duane, Diane and Donna. Will was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Latimer. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden for 25 years and of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls for the past 25 years. He was also a faithful winter visitor member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Yuma, Arizona.

To his family he was a master of all trades. While in business he held electrician, gas installer and plumbing licenses in addition to being a carpenter. He loved cars: collecting, repairing and rebuilding and NASCAR. To his family’s grief, he collected everything. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and even after making a winter home in Yuma since 1989, he continued to return to Iowa Falls in December for deer hunting with the guys. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls. He was not a joiner and not a member of clubs but rather a member of life with a wide range of friends in all age groups. He would be embarrassed to know that he will be remembered as a very emotional and loving person.
