Lloyd W. Meyer
May 26, 1917-July 4, 2006
July 8, 2006
A visitation was held on Friday, July 7, for Dr. Lloyd W. Meyer,
longtime pastor of the Church of the Open Bible, who died on
Tuesday, July 4, 2006, of complications from pneumonia.
Visitation was at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. A
private graveside service for family members will be conducted
at a cemetery in Iowa Falls on Saturday morning, July 8.
Dr. Meyer, 89, and his wife, Juanita, have resided at the
Rotary Ann Home for a number of years following more than a
half century of pastoral work in the community. The couple and
their three children, Jerry, Lloyd and Donald, moved to
Eagle Grove in 1948 from Los Angeles and assumed the pastorate
at the Open Bible Church. Dr. Meyer concluded his ministry
there in 2003.
Over the years, the ministry became heavily involved in
mission outreach. Dr. Meyer spent a number of years speaking
and raising funds to build several new churches in Africa. In
more recent years, the congregation was heavily involved in
raising funds to purchase Bibles for emerging churches in
mainland China and the church continued to support the
Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos in Flagstaff, Arizona, at the
time of Dr. Meyer’s retirement.
Born in Iowa Falls on May 26, 1917, Dr. Meyer was one of two
children. A sister, Lucille, still resides in California. His
mother, Hertha, immigrated from Germany in 1910 to the United
States, where she met her future husband, Lewis. His parents
also are interred in the Iowa Falls cemetery.
Dr. and Mrs. Meyer were well-known throughout large portions
of Iowa in the ‘50s and ‘60s because of the radio and
television ministries they initiated. The Old-Fashioned Church
of the Air radio broadcast, which originated from a specially
designed broadcast booth located in the Eagle Grove church,
aired for 24 years over station KVFD out of Fort Dodge,
broadcasting live for one hour each Sunday evening.
The radio ministry was joined later by the Little Country
Church of Iowa telecast over Fort Dodge-based station KQTV,
telecasting for nearly a decade. The program was designed to
feature various country church congregations throughout the
region as a means of paying tribute to the Midwest’s rural
faith traditions.
Dr. Meyer loved boating and fishing. For eight years he served
as national chaplain of the United States Power Squadrons, a
safe boating educational organization. But his real passion
centered on reaching out to those in need through his
counseling and mission projects. His influence also touched
the lives of many young people who grew up under his ministry, some 29 individuals went on to devote their lives to
pastoral, mission and other vocational ministries.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita; sons, Lloyd of
Carefree, Arizona and Don who lives in Chicago, Illinois; and
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerry preceded
him in death in June 2005.
Peace be to his memory.

Paul W. Cary
July 22, 1918-July 7, 2006
July 12, 2006
ALDEN—Paul W. Cary, 87, of Alden, died on Friday,
July 7, 2006, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July
12, at the Lee Center United Methodist Church, rural Iowa
Falls, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Memorials may be
directed to the Lee Center Church. The Surls Funeral Home in
Alden is in charge of the arrangements.
Paul Woodrow Cary, was born on July 22, 1918 in Alden, the
son of Earl and Elizabeth (Keller) Cary. He graduated from
the Alden High School in 1936 and had been a faithful member
of the Lee Center Methodist Church and was a charter member
of the Popejoy Lions Club. He had been a farmer all of his
life and retired at the age of 85 with a large farm
machinery sale in August of 2003. Farming was his love and
he had achieved many awards for his corn and soybean yields.
His “shop” was also an important part of his life. This is
where he restored all of those old rusty tractors. His
neighbors also enjoyed his shop, they also had things to
fix, paint and repair. One of his favorites was his dad’s
first tractor, a 1936 Hart-Par. This one was the jewel of
them all. He also made “auger wagon” trailers. You name it
and he had made it. His hands were never idle. He also
enjoyed his 150-year-old lathe. (That was a gift from his
brother, Lyle.) His shop was sort of like “Paul’s Recreation
Center” - there were always neighbors and friends who would
congregate there, maybe to pay a visit or maybe they needed
something repaired. Paul was also a lover of pets - he could
often be seen in the tan pickup, going here and there with
his Siberian husky peeking out the windows and enjoying the
ride.
Paul is survived by his sister, Mary Silke of Alden; two
nephews, Lyle V. Cary Jr. of Decorah and William E. Cary of
Cedar Rapids; two nieces, Dr. Candy Cary of Madison,
Wisconsin
and Mary E. Cary of La Crosse, Wisconsin; five grandnephews and
grandnieces, Paul B. Cary of Chicago, Illinois, Michael Cary
of Decorah, Dustin Cary of Decorah, Ann Cary of Portland,
Oregon
and Kristine Archer of Tomball, Texas; and one
great-grandniece, Trinity M. Archer of Tomball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle
V. Cary, Sr. and Dale Cary; and a sister, Bernadine Sampson.

August 5, 2006
IOWA FALLS—Zdenka Nikolich died of cancer in her home, on
Monday,
July 31, 2006.
Zdenka donated her body to science in hopes
to help others in their fight with cancer. She requested
that there not be any funeral services. Instead she wanted a
party to celebrate her life. Her celebration of life
memorial service will be a potluck lunch, held at the Iowa
Falls Center for the Performing Arts, Iowa
Falls (old Bethany Lutheran Church by Fareway), on Saturday,
September 2, from 1-5:00 p.m.
Zdenka Nikolich, was born on July 16, 1950 in Osijek,
Yugoslavia (Croatia), the daughter of Jelica (Savic) and Mihailo
Nikolic. She lived there until 1969, then left to work in
Germany. In Germany she met and married an American soldier,
John Eighmey. She came to the United States in 1971. She
resided in Waterloo, Eldora, other Iowa cities and then
settled in Iowa Falls. Zdenka attended the Ellsworth Community
College where she got her Degree in Art.
Zdenka’s number one love was her three children and five
grandchildren. She loved to hear her girls sing and spend
time with her son. She was very proud of her children and
was always telling others how wonderful and special they
were to her. She considered her grandchildren the sunshine
in her life; she could not get enough of them. She loved to
play games and paint and draw with them. Watching her
grandchildren play together brought her happiness and joy.
Zdenka was a talented artist with a great love of art. She
had a passion for drawing and painting. Zdenka also loved
her plants and flowers. She said it brought her happiness to
wake up in the morning and be able to look at her beautiful
flowers. She loved music. Whenever she had the chance she
would have some music playing such as Ozzy, Led Zeppelin,
Aerosmith or the blues.
Thank you to all of her family and friends for all of your
support. Thank you to the community that contributed so
generously to her benefit. A special thank-you from her
family to Hospice for everything thing you did. You were
truly God sent.
Zdenka is survived by her mother, Jelica Nikolic of Osijek,
Croatia; her brother, Bosko Nikolic and his wife, Alfride and
two nieces, Natascha and Nadine of Germany; also her two
daughters and one son, Lisa Senne and husband, Anthony and

Marsha Davies and husband, Andy and grandchildren, Zackariah
and Nadia of Ames; her ex-husbands, John Eighmey and Bill
Hansen of Iowa Falls; cousins, aunts and uncles in Europe;
and her many, many friends all over the world.
Zdenka was preceded in death by her father, Mihailo Nikolic;
and a son, Michael.
Zdenka was a very simple woman and nothing could ever get
her down. She was always happy and smiling. Zdenka loved her
family more than anything; her only regret was that she
would have to leave them behind and not be able to see them
grow. Cancer took her life, but she is in a better place now
and suffers no more. We know she will always be with us. She
was loved by all who knew her. She will be loved and missed
forever.
