Lois J. Meints, 73, of Hampton, died on Saturday, November 2,
2002, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Services were held on
Tuesday, November 5, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton, with
burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Father Jim Miller officiated.
Lois was born on February 5, 1929 in Eldora, to Casper and Agnes Haverly
Kuper. She graduated from the Alexander High School and on August 12,
1951, she married Marvin Meints at Hampton. She worked for Farmers
Hybrid and was co-owner and bookkeeper for Marv's Plumbing and
Heating.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the
women's group and the Hampton Country Club, where she was ladies
golf champion several times. Lois played on the varsity basketball
team in high school and enjoyed flowers, cooking and her dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; a sister, Shirley Finnell
and husband, Larry of Dyersville; a brother, Morris Kuper of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her parents and a brother, Harold.

Dale Holbrook

Dale Sheldon Holbrook, 87, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Iowa
Falls, died on Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the Trinity
Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m., at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with burial in
the Union
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Rev. Rhoda Preston will officiate. Military
rites will be conducted by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No.
188. There will be no visitation.
Dale was born on March 9, 1915 in Iowa Falls, to John and Minnie Havens
Holbrook. He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School and served in the
United States Army in World War II. On July 10, 1943, he married
Irene Kusserow in Kansas City, Missouri. After her death, he married
Evelyn Schuler on May 31, 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was parts
manager for the Johnson-Beckman Motors in Iowa Falls before retiring in
1979. Dale was a member of Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188
in Iowa Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Fort Dodge; a son, Daryle of
Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Betty Lou Jones of Cherokee
Village, Arkansas; four granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a sister, Etha
Doughan; and two brothers, Orville and Ray Holbrook.

Frances Frerichs

Frances Irene Frerichs, 78, of Ackley, died on Saturday, November
2, 2002, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, November 6, at 1:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in
Ackley, with burial in the Union Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be
directed to her husband, Bud Frerichs of
Ackley.
Fran was born on March 11, 1924 at Dow City, to Clarence and Pearl
Riddle Bryan. She graduated from the Denison High School and on June 25,
1944, she married Robert Rollins. He died in 1965 and on August 22,
1970, she married Hilton "Bud" Frerichs at Newton. She was employed
as a legal secretary in Newton and had previously been the deputy
county recorder for Jasper County. She was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Ackley and the PEO.
She is survived by her husband, Hilton; three sons, Lynn Rollins and
wife, Sheila of Omaha, Nebraska, Steve Rollins and wife, Maureen Dempsey
of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Brad Rollins and wife, Cindy of Bastrop,
Texas; two stepdaughters, Kathy Kilbourn and husband, Bill of Cedar
Rapids and Marilyn Windhorst and husband, Bill of Ellendale, Minnesota;
one stepson, Jim Frerichs and wife, Vicki of Kansas City, Kansas; eight
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; her first husband; two sisters, Margaret Greene
and Mildred Schomer; and five brothers, Harold, Glenn, Elmore,
Clifford and Sam Bryan.
The
Linn's Funeral Home of Ackley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Tessendorf

Evelyn Agnes Tessendorf, 82, of Eldora, died on Sunday, November 3,
2002, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, November 6, at 10:30 a.m., at the Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard,
with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery. Rev. David Splett will
officiate.
Evelyn was born on January 16, 1920 in Hardin County, to Emil and Lula Nassen Tessendorf. She attended
the Lincoln Country School in Ellis
Township and the Owasa High School. She lived with her parents on the
farm and spent much of her life caring for her parents and her
brother, Arnold. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Eldora and spent a short time as a Hardin County homemaker aid.
Evelyn lived at home until 1996 when she moved to the Eldora Nursing
and Rehab Center.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Raymond Carter of New Sharon;
two sisters-in-law, Ruth Tessendorf of Orangeville, Illinois and Violet Tessendorf of Warren, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
three sisters, Lydia Bright, Grace Becke and Laurina Carter; and
three brothers, Frank, her twin brother, Elmer and Arnold.

Donald Ellison

Donald Ellison, 52, of Owasa, died at his home of COPD
(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) on Sunday, November 3, 2002.
Services were held on Thursday, November 7, at 10:30 a.m.at
the Linn's Funeral
Home, Iowa Falls Chapel, with burial in the Berlin-Jackson Cemetery, Owasa. Military honors were provided by
the American Legion Post No. 182
and VFW Post No. 3974 of Eldora. Memorials may be directed to his
wife, LaVonne Ellison of Iowa Falls.
Donald was born on November 21, 1949 at Eldora, to Gerald and Frances Snapp
Ellison. He attended the Owasa and Eldora Community Schools. He served
in the United States Army from September 16, 1969 until August 12, 1971,
serving 16 months in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star. On
June 22, 1974, he married LaVonne Dufloth at Iowa Falls. Don was
employed by Dayco Products of Eldora and previously by Marvin Reed
and Ridgeway Stock Farm.
He is survived by his wife, LaVonne of Owasa: two sons, Donavon
Ellison of Cedar Falls and Jason Ellison of Owasa; a sister, Marilyn
Meyeraan of Hubbard; his mother-in-law, Doris Dufloth of Iowa
Falls; four sisters-in-law, Marla Ellison of Marshalltown, Veda
Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, Irene Huebner and husband, Greg of Prattsville, Alabama
and Rachel White of Tiffin; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marlyn; two brothers-in-law, Vernon Meyeraan and Ronald Johnson; and his
father-in-law, Ted Dufloth.

Grace Dugan

Grace Helen Garrett Dorsey Dugan, 94, of Hampton, died on
Monday, November 4, 2002, at the Hampton Care Center.
A memorial service will be
held at a later date with burial in the Ingham Township
Cemetery, Mason City. There will be no visitation.
Grace was born on March 23, 1908 at Hansell, to James and Ollie Mapes
Garrett. She attended the Hansell High School. On May 2, 1929, she
married Leslie Dorsey at Hampton and after his death she married
Russell Dugan on January 8, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Grace was a member
of the Hampton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Slebiska and husband,
Jerome of Harbor Springs, Michigan and Dixie Gates and husband, Robert
of Mc Allister, Montana; a son, John Dorsey and wife, Donna of
Hampton; and a sister, Gertrude Scott and husband, Robert of Cedar
Rapids; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; both husbands; four brothers; and one
sister.

Eunice E. Simon

Eunice E. "Toots" Simon, 75, of Nixa, Missouri, died on Tuesday,
November 5, 2002, at Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral services and burial were in Springfield,
with Rev. Greg Coop officiating.
Eunice was born on June 24, 1927, to Alex and Marjorie Underwood at
Alden. She attended school and graduated from the Alden Community
School. In July 1957, she married Merle Simon in Minneapolis,
Minnesota.
Survivors include her husband, Merle; three daughters, Cynthia
Geariety of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Joanne and husband, Albert Halling of Apple Valley, Minnesota
and Michelle and husband, Brad Coop
of Isanti, Minnesota; six sons, Robert Van Bergen and wife, Beth of
Shakopee, Minnesota, James Van Bergen of Amelia, Virginia, Thomas Van
Bergen and wife, Channey of Hoopa, California, Jeffrey Simon of
Monticello, Minnesota, Todd Simon of Nixa, Missouri and Charles Simon of
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Underwood and wife,
Lenora of Calendar; a brother-in-law, Delton White of Des
Moines; and a sister, Lela and husband, Ken Hoffman of Cambridge,
Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald
Van Bergen; a brother, Grant Underwood; a sister, Joyce White;
and a
son-in-law, Michael Geariety.

Harold Woodley

Harold Henry Woodley, 87, of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday,
November 6, 2002, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Services will be held on
Saturday, November 9, at 1:30 p.m., at the Linn's Funeral
Home in Ackley, with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery,
Ackley. Memorials may be directed to Leona Woodley of Iowa
Falls.
Harold was born on August 4, 1915 at Hansell, to Warren and Lena
McCracken Woodley. He attended the Hansell Community Schools. On March
2, 1935, he married Leona Roegner at Bethany, Missouri. They farmed in the
Geneva area and he also ran a road maintainer for Franklin County
for 16 years.
He was a member of the Elliott-Keninger American
Legion Post No. 252 of Ackley; the Borschel-Schwebke Veteran's of
Foreign Wars No. 8708 of Iowa Falls; Moose Lodge of Iowa Falls; and
the Elks Lodge of Iowa Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Leona of Iowa Falls; two sons, Donald
Woodley and wife, Virginia of Everett, Washington and Larry Woodley and
wife, Pauline of Ackley; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Tressa Kurtz of Hampton; and one brother, Herbert Woodley
of Ackley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons,
Ricky in infancy, Robert and Tony; three sisters, Wilma Bell, Thelma Heitland and Phyllis McKenna; and one daughter-in-law, Eunice
Woodley.

Marian Rewerts

Marian F. Rewerts, 84, of Parkersburg, died on Wednesday,
November 6, 2002, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
Services
will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 1:30 p.m., at the Faith Lutheran
Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Rev.
Daniel Larson will officiate.
Marian was born on June 24, 1918 in Parkersburg, to August and Carrie Rottmeyer Wallbaum. She graduated from
the Parkersburg High School in
1936 and was employed as a bookkeeper and salesperson during World
War II. She married Delos Lumley and they had two children and were
later divorced. On August 24, 1943, she married Edward Rewerts in
Alexandria, Louisiana. She was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church in
Parkersburg and was active in the choir and Faith Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; three daughters, Sherry
Lumley Schoneman and husband, Mark of Cedar Falls, Vicki Galloway and
husband, Nathaniel of St. Paul, Minnesota and Nancy Boelman and husband,
C. Dale of Clarksville; a son, Gary Lumley and wife, Marlys of
Parkersburg; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister,
Helen Timmer of Parkersburg; one brother, Calvin Wallbaum of
Yakima, Washington; and two sisters-in-law, Grace Rewerts of Parkersburg and
Lydia Rewerts of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
a brother, the Rev. Dean Wallbaum; and two sisters, Lavahn Wallbaum
and Lucille Krulish.

Bessie Drew

Bessie C. Drew, 95, of Ackley, died on Wednesday, November
6, 2002, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Monday, November 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John's United
Church of Christ with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, both
in Ackley. Rev. Michael Dack will
officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2-4:00 p.m., at the Sietsema
Funeral Home in Ackley.
Bessie was born on March 5, 1905 in Jerome, to Ira and Eva Mae Lynn Entsminger. On August 9, 1920, she married Francis
"Frank" Drew in
Brazil, Iowa. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John's United
Church of Christ in Ackley. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by three sons, William of Ackley, Paul of Murray,
Kentucky and Lyle Drew and wife, Gladys of Ackley; nine grandchildren;
one step-granddaughter; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-great-granddaughters; three step-great-great-grandchildren and two
daughters-in-law, Jo Santee of Iowa Falls and Helen Drew of Ackley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; three
sons, Leo, Robert and Delbert; six brothers; four sisters; and two
daughters-in-law, Connace and Margaret Drew.

Barbara Brown

Barbara T. Brown, 87, of Eldora, died on Wednesday, November 6,
2002, at the Valley View Nursing home in Eldora.
Services were
held on Friday, November 8, at the First United Methodist Church
in Eldora, with burial in the Eldora Cemetery. Pastor Anne
Lippincott officiated. Memorials may be directed to the
First United Methodist Church in Eldora.
Barbara was born on October 16, 1915 in Reinbeck, to Marvin and Ada Thomas
Tschirgi. She graduated from the Reinbeck High School in 1932 and
attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City where she received her
teaching certificate. She taught school in Grundy Center for two
years and on April 9, 1939, she married Robert R. Brown in Reinbeck.
They moved to Eldora that year. Her husband died in 1988.
She was a
member of the United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime
Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of PEO, the Monday
Club, the Birthday Club, Pine Lake Country Club, Pine Lake Housing
Board and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Brown and wife, Gretchen of Eldora
and Martin Brown and wife, Julie of Independence; eight
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law,
Louise Brown Blackman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband; a son, Thomas; a daughter, Susan Brown Brinkmeyer; a
granddaughter, Lindsey Brown; and two brothers, Don and Paul
Tschirgi.

Helen Follett

Helen Follett, 83, of Eldora, died on Saturday, November 9,
2002, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora.
Services will
be held on Wednesday, November 13, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Eldora, with burial in the Eldora City
Cemetery. Pastor David Splett
will officiate. Memorials may directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Helen was born on January 6, 1919 in rural Eldora, to Herman and Emma Bartz Steinfeldt. She attended rural country school at Eldora and on
February 14, 1940, she married John Richard Follett at the St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Eldora. She spent her married life on farms near Union and
Whitten and they moved to Eldora in 1996.
Helen was a lifelong
member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Ruth and
Naomi Circles. She was an avid sports fan and especially liked Iowa
State. Her hobbies were flowers, ceramic painting and cooking.
She is survived by a son, Bill and wife, Pat of Union; three
grandchildren, Libby Steinfeldt and husband, Bill of Iowa Falls, Neil
Follett and wife, Courtney of Conrad and Kent Follett and wife, Amanda
of Conrad; one great-granddaughter, Lorren Steinfeldt; two sisters,
Irene Teske and husband, Raye and Louise Granzow, all of Eldora.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 27, 2001;
a daughter, Nancy Jean Follett; a son, John Follett; seven brothers
and two sisters.

Willis Keene

Willis L. Keene, 78, of Latimer, died on Sunday, November 10,
2002, at the Hampton Care Center.
Services will be held on Thursday,
November 14, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel United Church of
Christ in Latimer, with burial in the Marion Center Cemetery,
rural Latimer. Rev. Jeff Long will officiate. Visitation
will be on Wednesday, November 13, from 4-8:00 p.m., at the Immanuel
United Church of Christ in Latimer.
Willis was born on September 21, 1924 in Latimer, to Albert and Maggie Olk
Keehn. He attended the Marion Center School, rural Latimer and on March
10, 1946, he married Eleanor Grabbe at the American Lutheran Church
in Hampton. He was a farmer and a lifelong member of the Immanuel
United Church of Christ, serving on the council as elder and
president.
Willis was a member of the Philathea, board member of
Franklin County Beef Producers, Latimer Golf Course, Latimer
Community Club and was awarded "Outstanding Citizen" of Latimer. He
and his wife enjoyed golf and playing cards and he was a big sports
fan.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four sons, Gary and wife, Dianna
of Alexander, Glen and wife, Joan of Algona, Steve and wife, Nancy of
Hampton and Mike and wife, Kristy of Latimer; a sister, Bernice Borcherding and husband, Kenneth of Hampton; a brother, Kenneth Keehn and wife, Elna of Latimer; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Jeromy,
Kristin, Joshua, Kelsey, Alyssa, Kimberly, Anna and Makenzie Keehn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Glee Wagner

Glee D. Wagner, 97, of Hampton, died on Monday, November 11,
2002, at the Hampton Care Center.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, November 13, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hampton
Methodist Church, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Rev.
Jerry Miller will officiate.
Glee was born on July 15, 1905 at Faulkner, to Hezikiah and Fanny Dale
Wagner. He graduated from the Faulkner Schools and attended Ellsworth
Community College. On February 18, 1934, he married Thelma Clawson at
Geneva. Glee was a farmer, cattleman, horseman and owner of Wagner's
Western Store at Hampton.
He was a member of the Hampton Methodist
Church. He enjoyed his cattle and ponies, driving his pony hitches,
taking his western supplies on the road to county fairs and shows
and going to Florida.
He is survived by two sons, Art and wife, Sherry of Hampton and
Robert and wife, Linda of West Plains, Missouri; a brother, Russell of
Geneva; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers; a sister; and an
infant brother.

Harold Dobbins

Harold Edgar Dobbins, 81, of Alamo, Texas and
formerly of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at the Retama Manor Nursing
Home in Edinburg, Texas, after a nine year battle with Alzheimer's
disease.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Monday, May 26, at
2:00 p.m., in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Steve Ascheson
officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Hyman-Peavey
American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls. The family will receive
friends at the First Church of God, Iowa Falls,
after the service.
Harold was born on October 22, 1921 at Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Oscar and
Edith Lucas Dobbins. He graduated from the Atlantic City High School and
served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-45. On February 15,
1945, he married Ilene Christensen at Los Angeles, California. They moved
to Iowa Falls where he was employed by the Iowa Electric Light and Power
Company for 37 years, retiring to Alamo in 1984. He was a member of
the First Church of God in Iowa Falls and the Palm City Church of
God in McAllen, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene of Alamo; a son, Harold Dobbins
Jr. of Waco, Texas; two daughters, Kathy Dobbins of Sacramento,
California and Connie Dobbins of Littleton, Colorado; a grandson, Ryan Kosanke of Sacramento; an adopted grand-daughter, Loretta Dobbins
of Sacramento; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Eidell and Kristen
Kalkwarf of Grundy Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
a granddaughter, Angela Kosanke; four sisters, Martha Sanders, Helen
Hubbard, Alma Kisby and Dorothy Hughs; and two brothers, Earl and
Charles Dobbins.

Maxine Summerville

Maxine Summerville, 87, of Naples, Florida and formerly of
Iowa Falls, died on Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the North
Collier Hospital in Naples.
Services will be held on Saturday,
November 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the Surls
Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with burial in the Odebolt Cemetery. Rev.
Preston will officiate.
Maxine was born on April 20, 1915 at Odebolt, to Harry and Dora Sauer Briggle. She graduated from
the Odebolt High School and on July 28,
1935, she married Robert Summerville in Atlantic. Her husband was
employed by Payless Cashways and they lived in Iowa Falls until 15
years ago. She was a member of Eastern Star and North Naples
Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and golfing.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Naples; two daughters, Kay
Stephan and husband, Corwin of Ames and Judy Summerville of
Bloomington, Indiana; five grandchildren, Susan, Scott, Steven, Barbara
and Danielle; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Little and a brother, Harry Briggle.

Miles was born on March 20, 1914 at Eldora, to Herman and Alta Essig
Boike. He graduated from the Eldora High School and continued his
education at a business college in Chillicothe, Missouri. He married Orpha
Kensinger in November 1937 in Springfield, Missouri. He farmed most of
his life in the Eldora area and had worked at Lennox Industries in
Marshalltown for 24 years.
He is survived by two sons, Roger Boike and wife, Pat of Dallas,
Texas and Douglas Boike of Webster City; two grandchildren, Eric
Boike of Eldora and Leah Low of Des Moines; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Jean in 1996; one sister, Gail Peterson; and one brother,
Duane Boike.
The Biersborn Funeral Home of Union, was in charge of

Lorna R. Powers, 77, of Parkersburg, died on Friday, November
15, 2002, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Services were held on Tuesday, November 19, at the Church of
Christ in Cedar Falls, with burial in the Honey Creek Cemetery,
New Providence.
She was born on May 8, 1925 in Dubuque, to Joseph and Helen Kale Brake.
She married John Powers on January 14, 1950 in Waterloo.
She is survived by her husband; a son, John Powers and wife, Deb of
Yellville, Arkansas; a daughter, Lolynn Menuey and husband, Tom of
Evansdale; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, was in charge of

Paul J. Allison, 56, of Hampton, died on Friday, November 15,
2002, at his home.
Services were held on Monday, November 18,
at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in
Hampton. Rev. Marlys Ruth officiated.
Paul was born on October 20, 1946 in Elmira, New York, to Paige and Leona
Mosher Allison. He graduated from the Elmira High School and Elmira
College with a B.S. Degree. He served in the United States Air
Force. He was employed as an accountant for Curries Manufacturing in
Mason City. Paul was an avid New England Patriot fan and enjoyed
NASCAR racing, all types of music and was a John Wayne fan.
He is survived by two special friends, Peggy Allison and LaDonna
Heckrodt, both of Hampton; a daughter, Amber Ubben and husband, Reece
of Gilbert, Arizona; a son, John Jungling of Hampton; a brother, Tim
Allison and wife, Cher of Elmira, New York; two sisters, Pat McClellan
and husband, Mac of Buckfield, Maine and Linda Jump and husband, Dick
of Palm Bay, Florida; and two grandchildren, Cameron and Lauren Ubben
of Gilbert, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ross Elliott, 76, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died on Friday,
November 15, 2002.
Memorial services were
held at the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Lincoln.
Ross was born at Beaman, to Fred and Sophia Rowe
Elliott and grew up in Iowa Falls. He graduated from Iowa Falls in
1944, Ellsworth College in 1948 and attended the University of
Illinois where he graduated with a degree in journalism. He was
formerly employed by Gold's Department Store in advertising and
then was self-employed in the upholstery business.
He was a member
of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Lincoln, where he served on
several committees and sang in church choirs for 50 years.
He is survived by a brother, Fred and his wife,
Donna of Phelan, California; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Richard;
and a nephew.

Harold E. McStockard Sr., 83, of Eldora, died on Sunday, November
24, 2002, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Services
will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 1:30 p.m., at the Calvary Baptist
Church in Union, with burial in the Eldora City Cemetery. Pastor
Roger Crawford and Pastor Bob Miller of the Alden UCC Church will
officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Walter-Sayer
Post No. 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless No. 3974 of the
VFW.
Harold was born on April 19, 1919 in Eldora, to John and Gina Erickson McStockard. He lived his entire life in Eldora and in 1939 he
married Luella Godfrey and served in the United States Army in 1941-42. His first wife died in 1958 and he married Margie Duncan on
December 15, 1959 in Eldora. He was a floor installer for Ben Harris
Furniture in Union and Vilmont Furniture in Eldora and more recently
worked at Whink Products in Eldora from 1957-70. He enjoyed
attending auctions and collecting old phonograph albums.
He is survived by his wife, Margie; six daughters, Susan Harris and
husband, Vern of Eldora, Kathryn Catherwood and husband, Don of Union,
Barbara Meiers of Eldora, Sheryl Rohlfsen and husband, George of
Wellsburg, Angela Blair and husband, Danny of Alden and Beverly
Miller and husband, Terry of Whitten; three sons, Lyle Marquis and
wife, Jenny of Cleveland, Georgia and Larry McStockard and wife, Connie
of Whitten and Harold Jr. McStockhard and wife, Saralynn of
Steamboat Rock; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10
great-great-grandchildren; and many relatives.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Faye McStockard
and Mayme Shaw; and a brother, Raymond.

John Sheldahl

John W. Sheldahl, 91, of Hubbard, died on Sunday, November 24,
2002, at the Colonial Manor in Zearing.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, November 26, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard, with
burial in the Hubbard Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Rueger officiated.
John was born on August 1, 1911 on a farm near Roland, to Henry and Anna Birkestrand Sheldahl. He was educated in the Roland
School until he
was 12 and then attended rural school through 8th grade. On March
23, 1939, he married Alice Olson at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Des Moines. They farmed for 24 years in the Hubbard area
until purchasing a farm near Roland in 1963. He retired from farming
in 1976 and in 1977 they built a new home in Hubbard. He worked for
his son at John's DX service station until the garage closed in
1980. John had resided in his home until last December when he moved
to Colonial Manor at Zearing. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran
Church in Hubbard.
He is survived by a son, John of Hubbard; a granddaughter, Sheila Krull and husband, Jason of Story City; a grandson, Jay Sheldahl and
wife, Jennifer of Hubbard; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Noah and Lani Krull;
and a sister, Harriett Hokel of Ames.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Alice; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sheldahl; five sisters, Emily Ryg, Beulah Olson, Angeline Wierson,
Olga Erickson and Minerva Anfinson; and three brothers, Eric, David
and Mark.
The Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard, was in charge of

Joan Glassel

Joan Elizabeth Glassel, 70, of Danbury, died on Sunday, November
24, 2002, at her daughter's home in Ida Grove, following a lengthy
illness.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m., at
the St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with burial in the church
cemetery. Rev. William Schreiber and Monsignor Mark Duchaine will
officiate.
Joan was born on September 26, 1932 in Mapleton, to Clifford and Mercedes Reinbold Uhl. She attended public and parochial schools in Mapleton
and later graduated from the OR Tech School at St. Joseph's Hospital in
Sioux City. On June 16, 1955, she married Doug Glassel in Sioux
City. They were married for 20 years and then divorced. Their
relationship was rekindled and they enjoyed a special friendship in
later years. Joan worked as an operating room tech at St. Joseph's
and at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Joan retired in 1986.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Rosary Society, Danbury Euchre Club
and subbed for many card clubs. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and
enjoyed all sports and politics.
She is survived by five daughters, Linda Glassel of Coralville,
Chris Schable and husband, Don of Hubbard, Peggy Rykhus and husband,
Jimmy of Boulder City, Nevada, Diane Jenkins and husband, Dale of Ida
Grove and Janet Schmidt and husband, David of Holstein; 11
grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Alan Uhl and wife,
Lisa of Douglastown, New York; and four sisters, Elaine Collins and
Lavonne Friedrichsen and husband, Ray, all of Mapleton, Colleen Tjaden
and husband, Jack of Iowa Falls and Sherry Juelfs and husband, Dick
of Cushing; two sisters-in-law, Mary Uhl of Oto and Judy Ohl of
Glendora, California.
She was preceded in death by a special friend,
Douglas Glassel; a son, John Glassel; a granddaughter, Rhianna
Glassel; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Glassell; her parents; three
brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Clifford Jr. Uhl; and a
brother-in-law, Eugene Collins.

Judy Karen Gelhaus, 47, formerly of Radcliffe, died on Sunday,
November 24, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Eldora.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 10:30 a.m., at
the Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard, with burial in the
Hubbard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Zion United Church of
Christ in Hubbard or the Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis.
Judy was born on August 17, 1955, to Hazel and Eitel Gelhaus. She grew up
on a farm near Radcliffe and graduated from the Radcliffe High School.
Most recently she had lived in Humboldt where she worked at the
Humboldt County Workshop. She was a member of the United Church of
Christ in Hubbard.
She is survived by her mother, Hazel Gelhaus; a sister, Mary Hedge
and husband, William of La Porte, Indiana; and a brother, John Gelhaus of
Iowa City.

Ella Furman

Ella Furman, 92, of Hampton, formerly of Bradford, died on
Sunday, November 24, 2002, at the Hampton Care Center.
Services were held on Tuesday, November 26, at
the St Peter's
United Church of Christ, rural Geneva, with burial in the
church cemetery. Rev. David Gobeli and
Rev. Rose Hermanot officiated.
Ella was born on October 7, 1910, in Grant Township, Franklin County to
Fred and Anna Boyenga Meinberg. She attended the Sunnyside School at
Geneva. On October 24, 1928, she married Irae O. Furman at Ft. Dodge.
Ella and her husband operated the Furman Truckline at Bradford. She
was a member of the Bradford Methodist Church and the UMW in
Bradford. Her hobbies were crocheting and playing the organ.
She is survived by two sons, Dean Furman and Dale Furman, both of
Bradford; a sister, Emma Benning of Iowa Falls; 10 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; a son, Duane; one brother, Edward;
and three grandchildren.

Sidney Deibler

Sidney J. Deibler, 77, of San Rafael,
California, died of cancer on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, in San
Rafael.
He was born in the Ellis neighborhood, rural Iowa Falls,
to Sidney and Rachel Deibler and graduated from the Iowa Falls High
School in 1942. He had lived in California for several years and
was a certified public accountant.
He is survived by his wife, Marge of San Rafael; two sons,
Karl and Glenn; and by a brother, Leon Deibler and wife, Mary Ina
of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a
sister, Mary Henry formerly of Iowa Falls.

Duane Lubkeman

Duane M. Lubkeman, 69, of Hampton, died on Thursday, November
28, 2002, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Services were
held on Monday, December 2, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton, with
private burial in the Coulter Cemetery, Coulter. Rev. Jon
Anderson officiated.
Duane was born on July 30, 1933 at Latimer, to Clarence and Kirsten Krabbe Lubkeman. He graduated from
the Franklin Consolidated Schools
in 1951 and attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. He served in
the United States Army from 1954-56, stationed in Germany. On
June 8, 1957, he married Jeanette (Jane) Petersen in Ruskin,
Nebraska. He worked for North Central Farm Services from 1963 until
retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Hampton, Hampton Lions Club, Hampton Country Club and Farm
Bureau. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and spending time with
his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Jane); his mother, Kirsten Lubkeman of Coulter; a daughter, Lori Lester and husband, Jeffrey
of Moline, Illinois; a son, Roy and wife, Wendy of Hawarden; two
sisters, Kaye Christensen and husband, Paul of Lincoln, Nebraska and
Maxine Scott and husband, Charles of Council Bluffs; three
grandchildren; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
father, Clarence Lubkeman.

Albert Collins

Albert LeRoy Collins, 83, of Minneapolis, Minnesota,
formerly of Ackley, died on Thursday, November 28, 2002, at the
Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis.
Services will be held on
Wednesday, December 4, at 1:30 p.m., at the St. John's United Church of
Christ in Ackley, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Rev.
Michael Dack will officiate. Military rites will be performed by
the Elliot-Keninger American Legion Post No. 252 of Ackley.
Albert was born on June 23, 1919 in Alden, to Ralph and Jennie Watt
Collins. He graduated from the Alden High School in 1938 and married
Rebecca Baumert that same year. He served in the United States
Army in the South Pacific during World War II, where he received
several honors, including the Bronze Star. After his discharge
he and his wife divorced. They had no children. In June 1949, he
married Pearl Brooks in St. Paul. They farmed near Ackley from
1950-92. He also drove the school bus and canning factory
trucks for many years.
He was a member of the Elliot-Keninger
American Legion Post No. 252 and the St. John's United Church of
Christ in Ackley.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Homan and husband, John
of Nashville, Tennessee and Barbara Hays and husband, Robert of
Shoreview, Minnesota; two grandsons; a sister, Margaret Engene of
Woodbury, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Roxie Drew of Tucker, Georgia;
and a
niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
and his wife, Pearl in 1984.

Aldrich (A. J.) Meyer, 76, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday,
November 29, 2002, at his home.
Services were held on
Monday, December 2, at the First Christian Church, with
burial in the Union Cemetery. Rev. Darwin Cole officiated.
A. J. was born on July 1, 1926 in New Hartford, to George and Ella
Meyer Meyer. On August 19, 1950, he married Laura Mae Bunn in Iowa
Falls. They farmed northwest of Iowa Falls in the Lee Center
neighborhood and after her death he married Helen Abbas on November
29, 1992 in Grinnell. He enjoyed working and having coffee with
his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Iowa Falls; a son, Jim Meyer
of Whitten; a daughter, Barbara Briggs of Grinnell; two
stepdaughters, Rose Abbas and Patty Patten, both of Brooklyn; four
grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Lena Sweiter of Iowa Falls, Minnie Meyer of St.
Paul, Minnesota and Pearl Neilsen of Royal Oaks, Michigan.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Laura Mae; four
brothers, Sam, Tony, George (Shorty) and Harm Meyer; three
sisters, Esther Meyer, Mary Smith and Hannah Kennedy; and an
infant brother and sister.
The
