Feb. 25, 2011 at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's Center
in New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus officiating.
Pallbearers were Cody Sheehy, Peter Sheehy, Kevin Sheehy,
Bob Stavnes, Al Weber and Andy Boss. Honorary
pallbearers were Steve Orr, Bill O'Neill, Heinz Engel,
Jim Ferkins, Leon Hugeback, Wayne Moetsch, Bob Rigler,
Jim O'Connor and Harry Zipse. Interment was in New
Hampton City Cemetery with full military honors
conducted by all Chickasaw County veteran associations.Visitation was held 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 7 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continued from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Clifford, 82, died Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Clifford "Joe" Sheehy was born Sept. 25, 1928, in New Hampton, the son of Gregory and Hazel (Strike) Sheehy. He received his education in New Hampton and graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1946. He was inducted into the United States Army where he served as a military policeman. He was honorably discharged as a corporal on Jan. 29, 1948. On Sept. 25, 1951, he married Joanne Haugen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton. Joe initially worked at Schueth Hardware and later began working at Mikkelson Motors. Joe eventually purchased the business changing the name to Sheehy Motors. He later partnered with Dick Holten forming H & S Motors in Cresco. Joe retired in 1990 and his son Bryan took over the business. Joe began a second career and became the Chickasaw County Veteran Affairs Director where he worked until his death. In his younger years, he enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Joanne; four sons: Bruce (Paula) Sheehy of Mesa, Ariz., Brad (Tess) Sheehy of East Bethel, Minn., Bryan (Denise) Sheehy of Cresco and John (Lori) Sheehy of Mosinee, Wis.; eight grandchildren: Joe Sheehy, Erin Ison, Abby Sheehy, Peter Sheehy, Cody Sheehy, Kate Sheehy, Hannah Sheehy and Meredith Sheehy; one brother: Gregory (Regina) Sheehy of Duluth; and one sister: Clara Mae Kruse of Monona. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Delphine Reilly, Rosemarie Baltes and Shirley Todd; six brothers: Bob Sheehy, Maurice Sheehy, Ed Sheehy, Gerald Sheehy, Keith Sheehy and Ralph Sheehy. Alta, 96, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar where she had made her home since October of 2007. She was born Nov. 24, 1914 the daughter of Clyde C. and Orcelia (Culp) Dilling in Grand Meadow, Minn. She grew up in Albert Lea. On Jan. 10, 1935 she married John Henry Farlinger in Northwood, Iowa. They made their home in the London area until 1943 when they moved to a farm near Lyle and St. Ansgar. John passed away on Feb. 11, 1979. A homemaker and farmwife, Alta was very involved in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, teaching Sunday School, Bible School and singing in the choir. She also held many offices in WELCA and mission circles. She spent much of her time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to cook, travel and work in her flower garden. Survivors include one son: Earl (Marlene) Farlinger of St. Ansgar, Iowa; four grandchildren: Craig (Pat) Farlinger of West Liberty, Carlton (Lisa) Farlinger of St. Ansgar, Curtis (Lori) Farlinger of Sheridan, Wyo., and Clinton (Amy) Farlinger of Cresco; eight great-grandchildren: Clare (Beth) LeMay, John (May) Farlinger, Caleb Farlinger, Marisa Farlinger, Melissa (Russell) Miller, Katie Farlinger, Amy Farlinger and Mark Farlinger; ten great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Pat Dilling of North Carolina and Alta (Norman) Joynes of Austin; brother-in-law: Clifford Medina of Florida; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul Alphonsus Sir was born Oct. 30, 1931 in Elma, the son of Joseph and Mary Sir. Paul attended country school, Lourdes School through 10th grade, and then graduated from Cresco High School. He attended Upper Iowa College for two years. On July 8, 1952 he married Mickie O'Connor at Assumption Catholic Church, Cresco. Paul was always self-employed. He had a bulk milk route for 18 years, sold real estate, and then became a successful insurance agent, a career from which he never retired. Paul was a tremendous athlete who played baseball and basketball in high school and college, earning all-state honors. He remained a sports enthusiast and took great joy in following the athletic careers of his children and grandchildren. Paul was a Boy Scout and continued to be an avid outdoorsman who loved life on the farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, and was a conservationist who planted hundreds of trees. In addition, he was a pilot and one of the original members of the Cresco Flying Club. Paul was proud of his Czechoslovakian heritage and loved polka music and dancing. Paul loved and adored his eight children, their spouses, his 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mickie; eight children and their families: Paul (Sandra) of Edmonton, Alberta, Steven (Caitlyn), Ben, Sam and Ethan; Lee Ann (Jeff) Fosse of Stillwater, Minn., Brady, Liz (Phil), Matt (Gina), Rachel and Alexandra; Tim (Kim) of Cresco, Joseph (Lindsey, Drake, Liam), Kelly (Dave, Iris), Mollie and Emily; Mary (Tim) Ray of Odenton, Md., Nicole (Roy), Nathan, Noah, Noelle, Natalie and Naomi; Pat (Shelly) of Shorewood, Minn., Connor, Charlie, Cara, and Coco; Mike (Julie) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Michaela, Katie, Anna, Michael, Scott and Matthew; Joe (Shannon) of New Richmond, Wis., Samantha and Zachary; Kathy (D.C.) Cemetery.Kevin, 47, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 following complications of a heart attack. Kevin John Boyle was born Dec. 22, 1963 in New Hampton, the son of John and Ardel (Schwickerath) Boyle. On April 25, 1987 he married Gail Schmitz in Raymond. Kevin received his teaching degree from Iowa State University. He worked as a senior livestock reproductive specialist for Genex. Kevin was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Harrah, Okla., and the Knights of Columbus #4598. He was very active in his church and enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Gail; three sons: Zachary stationed in the Navy at Groton, Conn., Dylan and Austin at home; his parents: John and Ardel Boyle of Elma; a brother: Kraig (Andrea) of Sleepyeye, Minn.; two sisters: Kim (Tim) Voth of Rochester, Minn. and Kelly (Ron) Blaser of Ostrander, Minn.; three nephews; and many relatives and friends. Wanda Lou White was born Oct. 3, 1956 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Leland and Ruby (Lane) Scofield. She graduated from high school in 1974 and worked in the insurance industry for 30 years. Wanda was married to Lewis White. In the late 90s they moved to Iowa. Wanda loved her family, enjoyed birds and her beloved cat Norton. Her passion was crocheting. She received several awards for her crocheting and her famous chocolate chip cookies. She was known for her charity work in the community. She is survived by her husband, Lewis; son: Robert of Cresco; daughter: Tammy (Rob) Druien of Byron, Ill.; five grandchildren: Mitch and Amanda Kuczynski, and Becca, Katie and Nick Druien; her mother: Ruby Scofield; brothers: Steven (Diane) Scofield of Nekoosa, Wis., Brian (Sharon) Scofield of New Mexico and John (Oneida) Scofield of Virginia; an uncle: Donald (Donna) Scofield of Freeport, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will continue 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home until time of services. Stanley, 78, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. Stanley Baptist Franzen was born Nov. 11, 1932 at Auburn, Fayette County, Iowa, the son of Leo and Clara (Panos) Franzen. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. Stan graduated from St. Luke's High School with the class of 1951. On Feb. 15, 1954, he married Wilma Bruess at St. Luke's Church in St. Lucas. They became the parents of eight children. Wilma died on Nov. 10, 1978. Stanley then married Alma Hemesath on July 12, 1980 and they later divorced. Stanley farmed in the Protivin and Lime Springs area. In 1970 he purchased the farm by Schley where he actively engaged in farming until 1991. Stanley later sold his farm and moved into Cresco in the fall of 1992. In the fall of 2004, he sold his house in Cresco and moved to Protivin and in 2005 he moved to Howard Residential Care. Due to declining health and partial leg amputation, he became a resident of the Good Shepherd Health Center in the spring of 2008. Stanley had a short stay at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He was moved to Hospice of North Iowa where he died. Stanley's hobbies included racing, fishing, camping, the card club and social activities with family and friends. In later years, Stanley greatly enjoyed getting together with his "coffee group" at Hardee's. Stanley served on the ASCS and REC Board of Directors for many years. He served on the Holy Cross Parish Council in Schley and beside farming he also was a DeKalb Seed Dealer. Stan is survived by his children and their families: Carole Bolchen and daughter Kristen Franzen of Arvada, Colo.; Ruth and Kevin Hart and daughter Rachel of Mason City; Ron and Rynonda Franzen and sons: Michael and Sam of Protivin; Janet and Steven Ryberg and sons: Michael, Adam and Dustin of Mauston, Wis.; Wayne and Kenda Franzen and daughters: Lindsi, Sara, and Rebecca of Calmar; and Cheryl Franzen; one sister: Leona (Francis) O'Regan of Waukon; two brothers: Kenneth (Mary Jane) Franzen of Apple Valley, Minn. and Donald (Elsa) Franzen of Haines City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Julia Amelia Snyder was born Sept. 27, 1938 in New Albion Township, Iowa the daughter of Nathan and Irene Thompson. She married Gordon Barness in 1955. He passed away in 1956. She later remarried. She spent several years providing an emergency foster home for at risk children in Northeast Iowa. She was also a private daycare provider raising several children as her own. She was an avid cook and baker, and also a private caterer. She spent years providing her own private meals on wheels to senior citizens in her neighborhood and throughout the Decorah and Cresco area. She is survived by a daughter: Gordalana "Gordy" Neubauer of Cresco; four sons: Eric "Rick" (Kris) of Cedar Falls, Jeff of Decorah, Gary of Waukon, and Scott (Lori) Erdmann; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother: Ernie (Linda) Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews. Frances Marie Ryan was born Aug. 16, 1916 on the family farm near Plymouth Rock, the daughter of Frank and Jule (Daley) Ryan. She worked in La Crosse, Wis. for 10 years, and then at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, sewing, and traveling with her sisters. Fran is survived by a sister: Jane Headington of Austin, Minn.; brother-in-law: Donald DeCou of Decorah; sisters-in-law: Rose Ryan of Cedar Falls and Evelyn Ryan of Decorah; plus many nieces and nephews.
