Agnes Catherine Dunn

Funeral services were held for Agnes Catherine Dunn, 90, of rural Alta Vista on Monday, October 14, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. The Rev. Roger R. Rethemel officiated. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery at St. Cecelia. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Catherine died of natural causes at Colonial Manor Home in Elma on Friday, October 11, 1996.

She was born on February 8, 1906 in Deerfield Township, rural Alta Vista, daughter of Richard and Catherine (Murray) Mahoney. She was a 1925 graduate of Colwell High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught rural schools near Deerfield for two years.

On September 24, 1935 Agnes was married to Ben Dunn at St. Patrick's Church at St. Cecelia. They farmed west of Alta Vista until their retirement. She had been a resident of Colonial Manor the last three years.

She is survived by three sons, Bernard of Alta Vista; Leonard of Alta Vista; and Joseph of Elma; two daughters, Mary Kramer of New Hampton; and Kay Rasmussen also of New Hampton; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Charles Mahoney, Frank Mahoney, Leo Mahoney and George Mahoney.


Telford Ansten

Services for Telford Ansten were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 at the Madison Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Phillip Olson, Pastor and Ginny Olson, Associate in Ministry officiated. Interment was in Madison Cemetery with French and Balik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died on October 17, 1996 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Telford Herman Ansten was born Mary 2, 1922 in Madison Township the son of Henry and Inga (Myran) Ansten. He was baptized on March 26, 1922 at Madison Lutheran Church where on May 23, 1937 he confirmed his faith.

Telford farmed with his father. He made his home on the family farm until 1994 when he became a resident of Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Telford enjoyed travelling. He visited Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and several countries in Europe. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Sigdalslag. Telford also served on the church council of Madison Church were was a life-long member.

He is survived by three sisters, Hazel Skaim and Rosella Goettel-man of Decorah and Gladys Varon of Hesperia, CA.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Malene Cash.


Helen G. Weaver

Funeral services for Helen G. Weaver of Riceville were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21, 1996 in the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. The Rev. Herschel Hawf officiated. Interment was in Saratoga Cemetery.

She died of natural causes at Riceville Community Rest Home on Friday, October 18, 1996.

Helen G. Moses was born January 21, 1909 near Saratoga the daughter of Wesley and Theresa (Dedic) Moses. She was a graduate of Riceville High School and of Upper Iowa University at Fayette. She taught in the rural schools near Saratoga and later taught third grade at Riceville Community School until her retirement.

On December 6, 1938, Helen married Donald Weaver. After their marriage, they lived at several locations in Howard County.

She is survived by two sons, Ron of Manchester and Ray of Evansdale; two daughters, Janet Weaver of Bondurant and Mavis Wallace of Richardson, TX; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; and two brothers.


Wilma Tupy

Funeral services for Wilma Tupy, 80, of Cresco were held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in Ca lvary Cemtery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wilma died at the Howard County Hospital on Saturday, September 28, 1996.

Wilma Rose Tupy was born in Howard County on January 30, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Kapler) Grimm. She attended St. Joseph's School. Following her education, she went to work as a girl friday, working for various professional people in Cresco. During the War, she went to work for Hinsons in Waterloo making war materials.

On June 16, 1947, she married Leonard Tupy at St. Joseph's Church in Cresco. They made their home on the farm east of Cresco until they retired and moved to town in 1987.

Wilma was a member of St. Joseph's Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survivied by her husband, Leonard; one daughter, Sr. Mary Ann Tupy of Green Bay, WI; one son, Robert of Cresco; five grandchildren; two brothers, Sylvester Grimm and Raphael Grimm and one sister, Arletta Rose, all of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Joseph and Bernard Grimm; and three sisters, Agnes and Helen Grimm and Cecelia Scanlon.


Dolores Hayek

Dolores Hayek to be held Oct. 23 Funeral services for Dolores Mae Hayek of Cresco will be held at noon, Wednesday, October 23, 1996 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Conway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died on Saturday, October 19, 1996 at Howard County Hospital of natural causes at the age of 72.

Dolores Mae Hayek was born May 6, 1924 in Calmar, IA, the daughter of William and Mayme Mashek Hosting.

On October 28, 1941 she married Adolph J. Hayek in Calmar. She and her husband farmed for many years. Dolores was a Tupperware dealer for 20 years and she had also worked as an Avon Lady.

Dolores was a member of V.F.W. Post 4561 Auxiliary and the Howard County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bingo and card club.

She is survived by her husband; seven sons, Adolph W. Jr. of Washington, D.C.; James of Black Diamond, WA; Joseph, Jerome and Julius all of Cresco; Jay of Strandquist, MN and Jean of Kent, WA; six daughters, JoAnn Andera of Manly, IA; Joyce Kapler of Cresco; Jacqueline Reisner of Marion, IA; Jane Steffen of Decorah; Janet Weigert of Cresco; and Julie Hayek of Cresco; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemarie Prohaska of Freemont, NE; and one brother, William Hostings of Arlington, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, John Hayek.


Lorie Mae Soukup

Funeral services for Lorie Mae Soukup of rural Postville were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 1996 at the St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah. Interment was in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Calmar. French & Balik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She died on Tuesday, October 22, 1996 as a result of a car and school bus accident in Clayton County.

Lorie Mae Soukup was born on October 5, 1959 in Decorah the daughter of Harleth & Delores (Rothmeyer) Reisner. She graduated from South Winneshiek High School.

On May 27, 1989 she was united in marriage to Leonard R. Soukup at Calmar.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Decorah; one daughter, Veronica of Postville; one step-daughter, Nicole of Decorah; her step-mother, Madonna Reisner of Calmar; five sisters, Judy Hageman of Calmar; Cindy Talbot of Milwaukee, WI; Donna Hagen of Waterloo; and Linda Arnold-Davis of Watkins, MN; five brothers, Dennis Reisner of Cedar Rapids; Harley Reisner of Marion; Michael Reisner of Waukon; Terry Reisner of Calmar; and Brian Reisner of Calmar; and her father-in-law Leonard J. Soukup of Cresco.


Helen G. Moses

Agnes Klassen

Funeral services for Agnes Klassen of Riceville were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 1996 at Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville. The Rev. John Moser officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery at Riceville. Arrangements were with Conway Funeral Home.

She died Wednesday, October 23, 1996, at Riceville Community Rest Home of natural causes.

Agnes M. Klassen was born September 27, 1906, at Geneva the daughter of John and Susan (Rooney) Redding. She attended the Franklin County schools.

In 1929 she marrried Ralph Keniry. They farmed in Franklin County. He died in 1960. In 1975 she married John Klassen. They lived in Howard and Mitchell Counties.

Agnes operated the Acme Store in the mid 1960s and was an Avon saleswoman. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and has been a resident of Riceville Community Rest Home since February 1, 1993.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcella Linkenmeyer of Riceville; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; one daughter in infancy; her parents; one sister, Susan Logan; and one brother in infancy.


LaVern Gaul

Funeral services for LaVern Gaul of Cresco were held at 2:00 p.m. on October 3, 1996 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in the New Oregon Cemetery. He died on September 30, 1996 at Howard County Hospital in Cresco at the age of 66. LaVern Gaul was born on April 30, 1930, in Winneshiek County, the son of William and Alice (Whalen) Gaul. He attended the rural schools and served his country during the Korean Conflict.

On June 22, 1968, he was united in marriage to Elaine Fye. They made their home in Cresco and LaVern farmed until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Cresco; two sons, Brian of Iowa City, IA, and Troy of Cupertino, CA; one granddaughter; three sisters, Grace Rupple of Decorah, Rosanna Pfeifer of Woodland Hills, CA, and Doris Svetnicka of Madison, WI; one brother, Dwain Gaul of Cresco. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Parnell, Joe, William, and Leonard; and two sisters, Mary Witzke and Genevieve Hannah.


Bernadette A. Burke

Funeral services for Bernadette A. Burke, 86, of Elma were held on Saturday, November 2, 1996, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. The Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died on Wednesday, October 30, 1996, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Elma, IA.

Bernadette A. Burke was born January 5, 1910, in Howard County, the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Kubesh) Shimek. She attended the rural school.

On August 16, 1932, Bernadette married Thomas R. Burke. They farmed north of Elma until their retirement. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and belonged to the Immaculate Conception Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by her children: Marilyn Hentges of Alta Vista, IA; Charlotte Kuhn of Port Arkansas, TX; Thomas Burke of Kendallville, IN; Betty Vicary of Lincoln NE; and Jean Cerwinske of Alta Vista, IA; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jessie Svestka and Lucy Carroll, both of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Jerome; one granddaughter; one son-in-law; her parents; three brothers, William, Edward and Joseph Shimek; and four sisters, Louise Maravetz, Helen Ingraham Mary Shimek and Johanna Shimek.


Arlo "Gene" Knutson

Funeral services for Arlo "Gene" Knutson, 65, of rural Elma were held on Friday, October 11, 1996 at the Jerico Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kent Dethlefsen officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery. Conway Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements. He died Tuesday, October 8, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Arlo "Gene" Knutson was born on August 15, 1931 near Elma in Howard County, the son of Severt and Ida (Throndson) Knutson. He attended the rural schools.

On November 27, 1956, Arlo married Cornelia Pecinovsky at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin. They were the parents of four children. He was employed as a tool maker and also farmed. He was employed in Minneapolis and later in Charles City.

Gene loved music and played in several bands. His favorite pasttimes were spend trout fishing and trapping.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters; Mary Attleson of Rochester, MN, Julie Bohr of New Hampton, Laurie Leibold of Lawler and Sherry Grober of Ionia; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie and Don, both of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond.


Harold K. Fisher

Funeral services were held for Harold K. Fisher on October 12, 1996, at French and Balik Funeral Home. Pastor Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson, Associate in Minis-try officiated. Interment was in Washington Prairie Cemetery.

Harold K. Fisher and a twin brother, Henry, were born in New York Mills, MN, on February 1, 1928. Their parents were Joseph and Ida (Rahbine) Fisher. He was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant in the Congregational Church in New York Mills. He graduated from the New York Mills High School and entered the U.S. Air Force. In the service he was a parachute rigger for 19 years and served in many countries. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant at the time of his honorable medical discharge in 1965.

From that time on, "Joey" (as he liked to be called) made his home with his sister. He was an avid reader and kept current on the affairs of the world.

He is survived by his sister, Viola Olsen of Ridgeway; and one brother, Williard Abbott of St. Paul, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Laurence; and two sisters, Amanda Hardin and Mary Bacon.


Olga E. Osenga

Funeral services for Olga E. Osenga, 77, were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 1996 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco. The Rev. Gary K. Lee and Intern Erik Lindell officiated. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Service were in charge of arrangements.

She died Monday evening October 14, 1996 at her home in Cresco following a long struggle with cancer.

Olga Osenga was born on March 23, 1919 in Winneshiek County the daughter of Ove and Emma (Johnson) Nelson.

On November 14, 1946 she married Olaf G. Risdahl. Widowed in 1956, she worked part-time as clerk while her children were young. For four years she was office bookkeeper at Howard County Hospital. She then became secretary/bookkeeper at Howard County Mututal Insurance Asociation, where she worked for 16 years, retiring in 1984. In 1965, she married Leonard Sanderson of Cresco. Widowed in 1978, Olga married Arnold L. Osenga on May 21, 1983 at First Lutheran Church, where she was a member.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Gerald E. of Morristown, TN; two daughters, Diane Hassig of Plainview, MN, and Marion Murphy of Tyler, TX ; two step-daughters, Verla Adams of Quincy, IL, and Ruth Neptune of San Diego, CA; one sister, Minnie Leistikow of Decorah; nine grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Richard Lee Newton

Funeral services were held for Richard Lee Newton, 9, of Riceville on Saturday, October 19, 1996, at 1:30 p.m. at the Riceville United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Don Lovejoy officiated. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar, IA.

He died at his residence in rural Riceville on October 16, 1996 after a farming accident.

Richard was born on Decmeber 29, 1986 in Rochester, MN, the son of Lee and Jennifer (DiLaura) Newton.

Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Kathryn Jane, Jessica Angel and Nicole Lea, all of Riceville; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Joyce Newton of Riceville; paternal great-grandparents, Stanley and Ruth Newton of Riceville and Walter and Deloris Fisher of St. Charles, MN; maternal foster grandparents, Del and Joyce Fowler of Provo, UT.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elvero and Kathryn DiLaura.


Kenneth John Trouten

Kenneth John Trouten of Nashville, TN, formerly of Cresco, died on October 11, 1996, at the VA Hospital in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on February 7, 1946, to Williard and Gladys (Headington) Trouton in Kendallville, IA. He attended country school and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1965. He served in the military and was a veteran of the VietNam War. On October 4, 1969, he married Barbara Walton and they lived in Cresco where he worked for Cresco Masonry. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO, and lived there for several years before moving to Nashville. He is survived by his wife; one son, Terry of Nashville; three brothers, Duane of Arlington Heights, IL, Arnold of Cresco, Jack of Cedar Falls; five sisters, Mabel Hermans of St. Paul, MN; Mrs. Charles (Jean) Ollendick of Hills, IA; Mrs. Richard (Lois) Ollendieck of Cresco; Mrs. Duane (Martha) Hruska of Cresco; and Mrs. Gary (Mary) Hovey of Cresco. Glenn M. Benson

Funeral services for Glenn M. Benson of Madrid were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid. Interment was in Peoples Cemetery near Woodward. Glenn, 79, died of a lung ailment October 8, 1996. Glenn M. Benson was born July 17, 1917, at Ridgeway, the son of Andrew and Goro (Opsahl) Benson. He lived three and one half years in Fort Dodge and 38 years in Madrid. He was employed as a custodian at Iowa State University. He is survived by his wife, Wuanita of Madrid and one brother, Art Benson of Cresco.


Urban Roeder

Funeral services for Urban Roeder were held Monday at 12:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiath with Msgr. A. W. Behrens, cousin of Marian Roeder, and Rev. Roger R. Rethamel assisted. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

Urban Roeder, 73, died Thursday, September 26, 1996, aenroute to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Urban Francis Roeder was born on August 14, 1923, at Arthur, IA, the son of Albert and Anna (Halbmaier) Roeder. He graduated from the Arthur High School.

On January 27, 1951, he married Marian Taphorn. at Odebolt. They lived in the Ida Grove area until they moved to the Cresco Lime Spirngs area in the winter of 1968.

He is survivied by his wife, Marian; thirteen children, Kathy Hannon of St. Paul, MN, Paul of Decorah, PEter of Rochester, MN, Frank of Des Moins, Rose Spence of Westborough, MA, David of Waterloo, Darlene Hentges of New Hope,MN, Aggie Gustafson of Windham, NH, Maggie Spikes of Des Mones, Mary Jane REcker of Alta Vista, Angela Welch of Clive, Joe of Des Moinews, and Judy Krueger of Massachutes, 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; his father, Albert, of Hartley; one brother, Florian Roeder of Mitchell, SD, and three sisters, Alberta Dahnke of Hartley, Ann Ocken of Omaha, NE and Mary Kautsky of Perry.


William H. Callahan

William H. Callahan, 66, of Cresco, died Thursday, September 26, 1996, at the Howard County Hospital. He deeded his body for medical reserarch at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Services in Des Moines.

William Henry Callahan was born August 29, 1930, in Cresco, the son of Roland and Pauline (Hudson) Callahan. He graduated in 1947 from the Cresco High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served for almost five years.

On January 21, 1955, he married Margaret Bronner in Cresco.

Bill worked for Peoles Natural Gas for 27 years.

He is survivied by his wife, Margaret; his four children, Peggy Caffrey of Cresco, Bill C. Callahan of Cresco, Vicki Callahan of Mason City and Jane Foster of Cresco; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco with the Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.


Frances Hageman

Funeral services for Frances Hageman, 78, of Calmar were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Interment was in the church cemetery. French Funeral Home in Calmar was in charge of arrangements.

Frances died Friday, September 13, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a short illness.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard, of Cresco; three daughters, Carol Hubka of Cresco, Jane Theis of Carver, MN, Doris Severson of Forest Lake, MN; five sons, Albert Andera of Ft. Atkinson, Gerald of Storm Lake, David of Decorah, Mike of Ft. Atkinson, and Jim of Ft. Atkinson; eight brothers, Edward Andrea of Ft. Atkinson, Albert Andera of Cresco, Louis Andera of Ft. Atkinson, Frank Andera of Spillville, Matt Andera of Calmar, William Andera of Lawler, Robert Andera of Cresco and Lawrence Andera of Decorah; and two sisters, Marcella Hayek of Spillville and Mary Soukup of Decorah. Clyrene Hall

Clyrene Hall died of natural causes on Oct. 14. She would have been 77 today. The daughter of Eustace and Euva Perry Kyle, Clyrene Kyle was born in Magazine, Arkansas. She graduated from high school there and entered Texas Tech College, majoring in Latin. She left college during WWII to help set up domestic military air bases for the Army Air Corps.

After the war she married John W. Hall, a decorated WWII veteran, who was employed in the newspaper business in West Texas.

They later lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, before settling in Spencer, IA, in 1957 where Mr. Hall was advertising director for the Spencer Daily Reporter.

In 1963 Ms. Hall and her husband started their own paper in Spencer, which they published for over 20 years. Their publications, the Northwest Iowa Shopper and the Northwest Iowa Morning Herald, won state and national awards consistently throughout their careers.

Clyrene Hall was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.

She is survived by three sons and their wives: John K. and Lou Ann Hall of Cresco; Gene and Cathy Hall of Charles City; Richard and Vickie Hall of Ann Arbor, MI; and seven grandchildren.


Louise L. Ernst

Funeral services for Louise L. Ernst, 79, were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 1996 at Assumption Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. Conway Funeral Home of Cresco was in charge of arrangements. Graveside military rites were conducted by Cresco V.F.W. Post 4561.

She died of natural causes on Tuesday, October 8, 1996, at Howard County Hospital in Cresco.

Louise L. Ernst was born on October 2, 1917 in Blooming Prairie, MN, the daughter of Martin A. and Anna Kvasnicka Hoeldt. She graduated from Assumption High School in Cresco.

Louise married Veryl J. Robinson and they were later divorced. She married Edward A. Ernst and they were later divorced. She had owned and operated the Coffee Cup Cafe in Ventura for three years and had also worked as a waitress at the Cresco Cafe. Louise was an Avon lady for many years, earning membership in the President's Club. She was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army Woman's Air Corps. She was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and an American Campaign Ribbon. Louise was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Post 4561 Woman's Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Eugene Robinson and his wife, Jean of Freeport, FL; Carol and her husband, Tony Chihak of Stewartville, MN; Kay and her husband, Earl Creger of Round Lake Beach, IL; Margo Malone of Cresco; and Steve Ernst and his wife, Donna of Kendallville, IA; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two sisters, Bernice Joerger of Cresco; and Eunice Pentico of Protivin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James J. Joeldt; and one sister, Harriet Thompson.


Telford Ansten

Funeral services for Telford Ansten were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 at the Madison Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Phillip Olson, Pastor and Ginny Olson, Associate in Ministry officiated. Interment was in Madison Cemetery with French and Balik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died on October 17, 1996 at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Telford Herman Ansten was born Mary 2, 1922 in Madison Township the son of Henry and Inga (Myran) Ansten. He was baptized on March 26, 1922 at Madison Lutheran Church where on May 23, 1937 he confirmed his faith.

Telford farmed with his father. He made his home on the family farm until 1994 when he became a resident of Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Telford enjoyed travelling. He visited Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and several countries in Europe. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Sigdalslag. Telford also served on the church council of Madison Church were was a life-long member.

He is survived by three sisters, Hazel Skaim and Rosella Goettel-man of Decorah and Gladys Varon of Hesperia, CA.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Malene Cash


Edward A. Meyer

Funeral services for Edward A. Meyer of rural Lime Springs will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 1996 at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Chester. The Rev. Robert Ament will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Lindstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died on Sunday, October 27, 1996, at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco.

Edward A. Meyer was born on November 22, 1912 in Ossian, IA, the son of John and Josephine (Bouska) Meyer.

On April 30, 1946, he was united in marriager to Edith Voyna at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Chester. Edward and Edith farmed south of Lime Springs all their married life and edward enjoyed hunting and fishing in the area.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, John of Duguque, IA, and Joe of Waterloo, IA; two daughters, Barbara Ball of Fredericksburg, IA and Marilyn Meyer of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren; one brother, Robert Meyer of Lime Springs; and four sisters, Wilma Owen of Lime Springs, Margaret Pisny of Chester, Elaine Munkel of Decorah and Luella Frost of St. Donatus, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl.


William L. Pisney

William L. Pisney, 75, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Chester, IA, died on October 28, 1996, at Orlando Medical Center of injuries sustained from a pedestrian/auto-mobile accident that occurred on September 27, 1996. He was cremated and interment will be at the Calvery Cemetery in Cresco.

Mr. Pisney was born on October 18, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, IA and later moved to Chester with his parents. After graduating from Chester High School he joined the Merchant Marines. He moved to Orlando, FL, in the early 1970s. Mr. Pisney never married.

Survivors include two brothers, James Pisney and Jerry Pisney, both of Rochester, MN; and one sister, Rose Marie Hagemeier of Green Bay, WI.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother.


Quentin Thomas Hover

Funeral services for Quentin Thomas Hover of Ridgeway were held on Friday, November 1, 1996, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. The Rev. Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson, Associate in Ministry officiated. Interment was in Madison Cemetery with French and Balik in charge of arrangements.

He died suddenly at Spectrum Industries in Decorah on Tuesday, October 29, 1996.

Quentin Thomas Hover was born February 8, 1940, in Decorah, the son of Maurice and Agnes (Peterson) Hover. He was baptized into the Christian faith at Big Canoe Lutheran Church and confirmed at Madison Lutheran Church.

He attended rural school through eighth grade and then graduated form Decorah High School in 1959. Following graduation he farmed with his Dad until 1972. He worked at Wicks Construction from 1978-1988. He worked at a variety of odd jobs and was employed at Spectrum Industries in Decorah from 1992 until the present.

He is survived by his step-mother, Norma Hover; three sisters, Ladean Breisler of St. Paul, MN, Patty Kratz of Ridgeway; Vicki Sovereign of Cresco; six brothers, Edward of Decorah; David of Savage, MN; Dale of Cedar Falls; Randy of Dorchester, IA; Mark of Cresco; and Alan Greene of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


Clara Anna Shimek

Funeral services for Clara Anna Shimek, 91, of Spillville, IA, were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 1996, in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. The Rev. Daniel Keppler officiated. Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with Balik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died October 30, 1996, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco after a long illness.

Clara Anna Shimek was born December 11, 1904, in Ft. Atkinson, the son of John and Anna (Riha) Kunt. She attended the Winneshiek County Country School.

On November 8, 1927, Clara married Francis Shimek at Cresco. They farmed near Ft. Atkinson until 1952 when they moved to Spillville. In October, 1992, she moved to Cresco Care Center.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two half sisters, Evelyn Sobolik and Christina Schmitt.


Michael Pickar

Funeral services for Michael Pickar of Austin, MN, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 1996, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Austin, MN. Father Jack Kraugh officiated. Interment was in Calvery Cemetery in Elma, IA, with Mayer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died on Thursday, October 31, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a long illness.

Michael Joseph Pickar was born June 22, 1951, at Osage, IA, the son of Elmer and Ann (Spradling) Pickar. He graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco.

He is survived by his children, Ryan Pickar and Carolyn Pickar, both of Austin and their mother, Janet. Four brothers, John of Cresco; Randy of Osage; Kenneth of Britt, IA; and Alan of Belle Plaine, MN; and one sister, Catherine Knowles of Manly, IA.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.


Beata M. Kubik

Funeral services for Beata M. Kubik, 84, were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at Lourdes. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Beata died Wednesday, October 30, 1996, at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA.

Beata Mary Kubik was born January 3, 1912, in Howard County near Elma, the daughter of Frank E. and Emma C. (Navratil) Praska. She attended the rural school and attended an all girls school in Dubuque.

Beata was married to Edward Kubik and they were later divorced. She ran the farm for most of 60 years. She later moved into Cresco spending the winter months in California until she could no longer make the trip.

She is survived by her children: Mary Ann Odle of Chula Vista, CA, Ed of Schnectady, NY, Joe of Rochester, MN, Ray of Bellevue, Roger of Westminster, CO, and Steve of Tallahassee, FL; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her twin sister Beatrice Havlik of Elma.

`She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Joseph Praska and one sister, Emma Clynch.


Agnes M. Myran

Funeral services for Agnes M. Myran of Decorah, were held Tuesday, October 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the Madison Lutheran Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. French and Balik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes, 91, died Friday, October 4, 1996 at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN, after a short illness.

Survivors are: two sons, Francis Myran of Decorah and Arnold Myran of Fortville, IN; one daughter, Mae Short of Manassas, VA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Josephine Smith and Myrtle Mikkelson of Silverton, OR, and Inga Gill and Olga Zuber of Salem, OR.


Reva Marie Fischbach

Reva Marie Fischbach, 90, of Cresco died Sunday, October 6, 1996, at Cresco Care Center of natural causes. Services will be held Thursday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. this evening at Conway Funeral Home in Cresco where there will be a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. Friends may also call an hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Church.

Reva was born June 21, 1906, in Hartwig, the daughter of James and Lillian (Hackman) O'Halleran. She graduated from New Hampton High School.

On November 27, 1928, she married Edward Fischbach in New Hampton. They farmed in Chickasaw County for 20 years. The came to Howard County in 1948 and farmed until they retired and moved into Cresco in 1972.

Reva was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, the church rosary society and the Farm Bureau Women.

Survivors include: her husband, Edward, of Cresco; one daughter, Lillian Dusheck, of Cresco; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Keller of Clarence and Luella O'Halleran Copperud of Zimmerman, MN.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Randall and Owen, O'Halleran; and one sister, Vera Hauser.
