Irene M. Keck

Funeral services for Irene M. Keck, 77, of Plymouth Rock, were held Saturday, June 29 at St. Agnes Catholic Church at Plymouth Rock. Interment was in the church cemetery. Fr. David Ambrosy officiated and French & Balik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irene died Thursday, June 27, 1996, at the Harmony Community Nursing Home.

Irene Keck was born in rural Decorah on June 12, 1919, the daughter of Archie and Candace S. (Dinnger) Ward. She attended Winneshiek County country schools.

On March 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to James Keck. Their wedding took place in Decorah. To this union four children were born.

Surviving Irene are three children: Mike of Canton, MN, Helen Kappes of Decorah, and Kathy Frederick of Clarence, IA; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nora Hageman, of Canton, MN.

Preceding Irene in death were her husband, James; one son, Gerald; two grandchildren; and her parents.


Mary Edna Fogarty

 Funeral services for Mary Edna Fogarty will be held at 10:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 13, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with the Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Elma. Friends may call at Conway Funeral Home in Elma after 3:00 p.m. today. There will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service.

Edna, 91, of Elma died Monday, June 10, 1996, of natural causes at St. Joseph Community Hospital in New Hampton.

Mary Edna Mahoney was born June 5, 1905, near St. Cecelia the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Murray) Mahoney. She was baptized at St. Cecelia Church and was a graduate of St. William's High School in Alta Vista.

On June 20, 1944, she married Patrick Fogarty at St. Bernard's Church in Alta Vista. They farmed near Elma until retiring and moving to Elma in the early 1950's.

Edna was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Rosary Society.

She is survived by one son, Pat of New Hampton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Preceding her in death were: her husband, Patrick, 1967; her parents; four brothers, Leo, Lloyd, Edward and George Mahoney; and two sisters, Theresa and Marie.


Bernice Watts

Bernice Watts, age 76, of Austin, MN, died of natural causes in her home on June 9, 1996. Memorial services were held June 13 at the Grace Baptist Church in Austin with Pastor Gordon Larson officiating. Imterment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice was born August 27, 1919, in Protivin, the daughter of Theodore and Chrstina (Jirak) Bouska. She attended Catholic school through the eighth grade in Protivin.

On June 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Leanus Watts in Northwood, Iowa. Bernice worked in the Austin area as a housekeeper and home health aide until she reitred in 1990. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Austin.

Bernice is survived by her daughters: Kathryn Jones of Chester, Darlene Corporon of Cedar Rapids; sons Frank Watts of Ft. Myers, FL, and David Watts of Rice, MN; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, August Bouska, of New Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Gorman.


Lillian Pecinovsky

Funeral services for Lillian Pecinovsky will be held at 10:30 a.m. tommorrow, Thursday, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco with the Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiating

Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery at Protivin.

Lillian Pecinovsky was born May 30, 1903, in Howard County, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Zak) Havel. She attended the rural schools.

On June 24, 1930, she was united in marriage to George Pecinovsky near Protivin.

Lillian entered the nursing home in January, was able to renturn to her home in April and then reentered the nursing home in May. She died June 16, 1996, at the Howard County Hospital at the age of 88.

She is survivied by: her son, Eugene Pecinovsky, of Cambridge; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Anna Samec and Marcalla Opat, both of Cresco, Agnes Milota of Elma and martha Hosek of Charles City.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Goerge, June 24, 1930; her parents; and borthers and sisters, Francis Frana, Rose Triska, Mary Frana, Celia Vokaty, Emma Maravetz, Louie Havel, Frank Havel and Marcalline Havel.


Matthew E. Hahn

Funeral services for Matthew E. Hahn of Preston, MN, were held June 26 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. Pastors Leon Stier and Joe Schularick presided and interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery. Matt died on Saturday, June 22, 1996, in a car fire in rural Preston. He was born on September 12, 1975, in LaCrosse, WI, to Randy and Bonnie (Broadwater) Hahn. The family lived first in Preston, MN, and then in Decorah before moving back to Preston in 1979. Matt was the nephew and godson of Rob and Jacque Hahn of Cresco.

Matthew attended Preston-Fountain schools for 11 years and in 1994 was a member of the first graduating class o Fillmore Central High School in Harmony, MN. In high school Matt played the drums, football, and was an FFA member. He was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Luther League and of the Carimona Cruisers 4-H CLub.

After graduation matt attended Riverland Technical College in Faribault, MN. He was currently working as a welder at Pretson Iron Works.

Matt is survived by his parents, Randy and Bonnie Hahn; two brothers: Richard of Owatonna, MN and Christopher of Preston; and grandmothers Marjorie Hahn and Betty Broadwater, both of Preston.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Hahn and Porter Broadwater.


Vitalias W. Jarosh

Vitalias W. Jarosh services held June 28

Mr. Vitalias William Jarosh, age 75, of Camden, NC, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, in Albermarle Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted in Twiford's Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City, NC on June 28 with Pastor Larry Holland officiating. Interment followed in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors by VFW Post 6060.

Vitalias was a native of Elma, IA, graduating from Elma Public School in 1939. He was a retired truck driver, a member of Faith Baptist Church, the Tar Heel Squares and the Clarence Jackson Post #6060 of the VFW. He was also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Jarosh is survived by a daughter, Karen Lynn Brandt, of Camden, NC; one brother, LaVern Jarosh of Saratoga, IA; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Claire Beimbrink Jarosh; parents William and Louise Slifka Jarosh; and one brother, Virgil, of Yuba City, CA.


Selmer Larson 

Funeral services for Selmer Larson were held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 16, at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco with the Rev. Gary K. Lee and Intern Carla Tappert officiating. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Decorah with military rites conducted by the Cresco American Legion and VFW posts. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Selmer died at the LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital Wednesday, June 12, 1996, at the age of 81.

Selmer Larson was born August 25, 1914, the son of Lars and Bertha (Hanson) Larson. He attended various grade schools, attended Mabel High School and graduated from Winona Business School. After graduation he worked at various positions before enlisting in the Army Air-corps for four years serving two and one half years in the China, Burma and India theatres of operation.

He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1945 and became the bulk plant manager for Socony Vacuum (Mobile Gas) in Decorah.

On June 14, 1947, he married Jeanette Anderson at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. They farmed in the Cresco area for 21 years and upon retirement moved into Cresco in 1973.

Selmer was the Howard County DHIA supervisor until 1988, a member of the Cresco Flying Club, served as secretary-treasurer and airport caretaker, was a council member of First Lutheran, was on the 4-H council and was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts.

He is survived by: his wife, Jennie; children, Charles of Waukon, Steven of Livermore, Deanne Stodgell of Mt. Pleasant and Thomas of Minneapolis, MN; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Larson and Adolph Larson, both of Mabel, MN; and one sister, Irene Anderson, of Mabel, MN. Selmer was preceded by: two children, Sandra and Dean; his parents; one half-brother and one half-sister.

Funeral services for John H. Murray, 67, of Phoeniz, AZ, formerly of Cresco, will be held at 11:00 a.m. today (Wednesday), July 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco. Conway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John died on Saturday, July 13, 1996, in Phoenix, following a long illness.
