Beatrice Lucy Pinter

Funeral services for Beatrice Lucy Pinter of Protivin were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 1996, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. The Rev. Allen M. Schmitt officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died Saturday, December 7, 1996.

Beatrice Lucy Pinter was born December 13, 1910 in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Adolph and Mary Klimesh Zahasky. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Protivin.

On September 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Pinter at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They farmed until 1983 when they retired and moved to Protivin.

Beatrice worked along side her husband farming the land, raising many chickens and gardening. Her interests were embroidering many linens and quilts, making noodles and reading. She was a life long member of Holy Trinity Parish.

She is survived by one daughter, Darlene of Waucoma; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Majella Koudelka of New Hampton; and Mrs. Eleanora Lukes of rural Waucoma; two brothers, Edwin Zahasky of Protivin and Emil Zahasky of Rochester, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Otto Zahasky; and one sister in infancy.


Edward Krall

Funeral services for Edward Krall of Cresco were held at noon, Tuesday, December 10, 1996, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiated. Interment was in New Oregon Cemetary with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Edward was born February 4, 1908, in Lourdes, IA, the son of Frank D. Krall II and Katherine Hoch Krall. He was baptised at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and had his First Communion at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin. He attended Howard Center #6 School.

His family moved to Birch Lee, MO, in 1909 and returned to the Cresco area in 1912. The family lived in Cresco and operated a restaurant next to the Union Savings Bank until it was destroyed by fire in 1915. They then bought an 80 acre farm nine miles west of Cresco. The "Eighty" as it was known, and the neighboring farm, fondly called "down on the creek", were home until the death of their mother in 1936. At that time Ed and his brother August "Gus", bought the "eighty" from their dad. There they lived and farmed until their joint retirement in 1977.

Very popular with relatives and friends, a few generations of young cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors spent their summer vacation days with Ed and Gus. Neighbors frequently congregated at their place to visit and play horseshoes. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Ed was often called upon to help fix machinery, do carpentry work or work in the fields. After Gus died in 1989, Ed lived in his own home in Cresco until failing health caused him to move to the Cresco Care Center October 26, 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary, who died in infancy; Frances Vrba; Adeline Saxton; and Elsie Moldenhauer; and three brothers, Frank III; Emil; and August "Gus".


Arthur H. Boehmer

Funeral services for Arthur H. Boehmer, 87, of McIntire were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 1996, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville. The Rev. John Moser officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Elma with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died Tuesday, December 10, 1996, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home of natural causes.

Arthur H. Boehmer was born February 12, 1909, in North Washington, Iowa the son of Lawrence and Clara M. Miller Boehmer.

On January 6, 1936 he was united in marriage to Rose I. Conklin in Lourdes.

Art was a farmer for many years, retiring in 1972. He farmed near Alta Vista, Elma and McIntire.

He is survived by one son, James Boehmer of Yates City, IL; one daughter, Lois Duryee of McIntire; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Robert Lee; his parents; four brothers, Frank, Andrew, Alfred and Henry; six sisters, Katherine Marvin, Eleanora Anderson, Martha Simon, Helena Power, Viola Westendorf and Lizzie Pickar.


Floyd F. Whalen

Funeral services for Floyd F. Whalen of Osage were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 1996, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. The Rev. Dennis Cahill officiated. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites by Osage VFW Post 7920 and Osage American Legion Post 278. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He died Tuesday, December 10, 1996, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Floyd F. Whalen was born April 14, 1923 in Cresco the son of Urban and Blanch (DeMers) Whalen. Floyd was raised in the Plymouth Rock area and attended rural schools.

He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.

On July 9, 1944, he was united in marriage to Eileen McGee in Burbank, CA.

After the war they returned to live in the Austin and Lyle, MN, areas. They moved to Osage in 1976.

Floyd was employed by Armstrong Trucking of Austin, MN. He drove the Senior Citizens bus in Osage. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and was a past Grand Knight. He also was a member of VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Lois Freiermuth of Elmwood, WI; Kathleen Wencl of Austin, MN; Darlene Strouf of Lyle, MN; Arlene Gibson of Gilman, WI; and Lori Wilde of Osage; three sons, Dennis of Lyle, MN; Dale of Rochester, MN; and James of Winona, MN; three sisters, Gladys Bednar of Austin, MN; Ruth Carolan of Austin, MN; and Cecelia Martin of Lyle, MN; three brothers, Alois of Rockford, IL; Oliver of Rose Creek, MN; Patrick of Cresco; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchilren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosanne Eileen Whalen; his parents; one sister, Aletha; and two brothers, Leonard and Leslie.


Ruby G. Jones

Funeral serviced for Ruby G. Jones of Boone, IA, were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs. The Rev. Robert Holdorf officiated. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Lindstrom Funeral Home of Lime Springs in charge of arrangements.

She died Thursday, December 12, 1996, at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, IA.

Ruby G. Jones was born August 23, 1899, in Riceville the daughter of Albert and Emma (Shemp) Stockdale. During her childhood years the family moved north of Lime Springs.

On September 4, 1918, she was united in marriage to Glen Jones at the Lime Springs Methodist parsonage. They made their home one mile north of Lime Springs in Old Town overlooking the Upper Iowa River.

She was baptized and a long time member of the Lime Springs Methodist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was an active member of the women's group. She had a special interest in church missions. She was a long time member of the Oneota club, which gave her many hours of enjoyment.

In May, 1990, she moved to Boone, IA, and made her home at the Evangelical Free Church Home.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Prestegard of Lee, IL; Janette Andreac of Ames, IA; Olive Walker of Lincoln, IL; and Marilyn Moen of Reads Landing, MN; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fannie Tibbals of Lime Springs.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, John G. Jones; one sister; and four brothers.


Alexandra Egorenko

Funeral services for alexandra Egorenko were held at 11:00 a.m., December 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment was in New Oregon Cemtery. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alexandra died December 18, 1996 of a heart attack at the Howard County Hospial. at the age of 86.

Alexandra Evanova was born November 10, 1910, in Russia the daughter of Dimetree and Marfa Evanova. She was united in marriage to Gregory Egorenko in 1930. They came to the United States in 1950 and lived in Saratoga until the spring of 1953 when they moved into Cresco. Alexandra lived a the Cresco Care Center for six years.

Alexandra worked as a laundress at the hospital. She enjoyed her garden and flowers.

She is survived by her daughters: Tamara Hammond of Cresco, Galina Caldemeyer of Marion; sons, Alexander of Mineapolis, MN, and Valentin of Davenport; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in deth by her husband and two sisters.


Walter Bateman

Funeral services for Walter Bateman were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Walter, 79, died Friday, December 20, 1996, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.

Walter Vincent Bateman was born in Cresco February 27, 1917, the son of Elmer E. and Ella (McGee) Bateman. He attended Assumption grade school and Cresco High School. On October 21, 1942, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, being discharged on December 3, 1945.

On March 27, 1945, he married Helen Lienhard in Hattiesburg, MS. They moved back to Cresco when Walter was discharged.

Walter was a member of the Assumption Church, the V.F.W. and the american Legion. He liked to fish, bowl and watch baseball and softball and he was active in the Boy Scouts.

He is survivied by his wife; children, John of Cedar Rapids, Paul of Hubbard, Ruth Bruner of Rochester, MN, David of West Bend, WI, Thomas of Waterloo, Kathryn of Cedar Rapids, and Steven of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchldren; and one brothers, Leonard of West Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Kenneth and two sisters


Ben Ollendieck

Funeral services for Ben Ollendieck, 88, were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresaco with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ben died Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Bernard C. Ollendieck was born in Petersburg on September 26, 1908 the son of fred and Sophia (Dorweiler) Ollendieck. He attended St. Joseph's School.

On August 23, 1932, he married Irma Fritz at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. Ben farmed most of his live. Prior to his marriage, he worked on road construction and after he retired he was caretaker at Oak Lawn Cemetery for many years.

Ben was on the township ASC Board, United Shippers Co-op Bard, NOtre Dame School Board, Farm Bureau, and was turstee forSt. Joseph's Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survivied by his children: Doris Ferrie, Marion Ollendieck, Donald, Jean McCarville, Joyce Sweeney, Robert, Richard, Charles, Kenneth, Judy Tucker and Dean; 48 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray; and one sister, Anna Chapman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and infant brother, Joseph, and one sister, Regina Ebert.


Reuben J. Moravetz

Reuben J. Moravetz, 92, of Cresco died Saturday, November 2, 1996 at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco. `Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiated. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery at Protivin.

Reuben John Moravetz was born January 1, 1904, in Howard County between Protivin and Schley, the son of Joseph J. and Caroline (Svestka) Moravetz. He attended the rural school and helped his parents on the farm.

On November 18, 1929, he married Emma Havel at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They moved on the farm where he lived until his death. In 1943, he went to work as a groundman for the Rural Electric Cooperative in Cresco and retired in 1966. He wife Emma died in 1979 and Reuben lived with his daughter Anna Mae on the farm.

He is survivied by his daughte, Anna Mae Moravetz of Cresco; two brothers, Leonard and Roman, both of Cresco; and three sistesr, Leona Havel and Clara Voves, both of Elma and Otilda Larkin of New Hampton.

Reuben was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and one brother, Clarence.


Lucille A. Stapleton

Funeral services for Lucille A. Stapleton, 78, of Elma will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 1996, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. The Rev. Roger R. Rethamel will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Elma with Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died of natural causes at Colonial Manor Home in Elma on Sunday, December 1, 1996.

Lucille A. Stapleton was born September 11, 1918, near Deerfield the daughter of Louis and Margaret Ann (Ruhoff) Kobliska. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Elma.

On February 28, 1938, Lucille married Harold Stapleton at Elma. They lived a short time in Austin, MN, and later Grundy Center before moving to Elma. She was a cashier at Peoples Savings Bank until retiring.

She was a member of the rosary society, the Alta Vista and Elma Commercial Clubs and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was treasurer for the Colonial Manor Board of Directors.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Biwer of Zumbrota, MN, and Joyce Swestka of Cresco; one son, James of New Hampton; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret "Peggy" Beecher of Elma.

Preceding her in death were her husband; twin sons in infancy; her parents; and one brother, Leonard Kobliska.


Iola Miller

Private graveside services were held for Iola Miller December 12 at Chester Hill Cemetery in Chester.

Iola died November 29, 1996, in San Jose, CA.

Iola Olene Miller was born March 3, 1913, at Chester to Earl and Nettie Knode Fairchild. She graduated from Chester High School.

On April 28, 1932, she married Forest Romine Larson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union two sons were born, Wayne and Gary, who died in infancy. Forest died in 1960 and i n 1961, she married Edward Eugene Miller, who died in 1995.

Iola and Forest farmed in the Chester and Bonair areas before moving into Cresco in 1951. They moved to Keokuk in 1957 and to Waterloo in 1958. After Forest's death, she moved to California where she and her husband Edward were employed by Butler Amusements until 1995.

She is survivied by: three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evalyn Butler and Beverly Fairchild of San Jose, CA, Geraldine Misgen of Austin, MN, and one brother, Glen Fairchild of Chester.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, both sons and one brother, Leo Fairchild.


Arno F. Warnke

Funeral services for Arno F. Warnke of Olathe, KS, were held Friday, December 13, at D.W. Newcomers Sons Floral HiIls Chapel

Interment was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardesn, Kansas City, MO.

Arno, 91, died at Good Samaritan Home in Olathe, KS, Sunday, December 8, 1996.

Arno F. Warnke was born in Howard County. He served in the Army Aircorp during World War II. He was worked for a seed company.

He is survivied by one son, Arno A. Warnke of Gilbert, AZ and one daughter, Rhonda J. Warnke of Boulder, CO.

He was preceded by his wife.He worked for a seed company and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.


Arnold Sobolik

Funeral services for Arnold Sobolik, 66, were held Monday, December 15, at 12 noon at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco with the Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was in the Calvary Cemtery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold died Saturday, December 14, 1996, at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco.

Arnold Albert Sobolik was born June 24, 1930, at Cresco, the son of Albert and Eveline (Kunt) Sobolik. He attended the rural school and helped on the family farm.

In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was discharged in 1955 and returned to Cresco.

On September 19, 1955, he married Wilma Hrdlicka at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They made their home on the family farm.

He is survivied by his wife, Wilma; childrn Denis, Betty Wilson, KEvin, Diana, Randy, and Nancy Pecinovsky; four grandchildrne; and two sisters, Arlene Chyle and Evelyn Adamec.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


John Zotika

Funeral services for John Zotika will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at the Assumption Catholic Church with interment in Calvary Cemtery. The Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald will officiate. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Conway Funeral Home where there will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call for an hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church.

John, 84, of Cresco, died Sunday, December 15, 1996, at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco of natural causes.

John J. Zotika was born October 30, 1912, in Cleveland, OH, the son of JOhn and Adella (Mathura) Zotika.

On May 23, 1939, he married Evelyn Haskovec at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco.

John farmed near Lime Springs most of his life. After retiring from farming he worked for John Deere and Evans Memroial Home. He and his wife moved to town in 1974.

He is survived by: his wife, Evelyn, of Cresco; daughters, Sharon K. Witty of Marshalltown and Judith A. Emde of Lawrence, KS; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Ella Slifka of Cresco and Celia Halweg of LaCrescent, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Otto.


Mary E. Deegan

Funeral services for Mary E. Deegan of Riceville were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 1996, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Riceville. The Rev. Herschel Hawf officiated. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery at Riceville with Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died at the Riceville Community Rest Home on Monday, December 16, 1996.

Mary was born August 29, 1904 in Halifax, England the daughter of Johans and Emma (Jenken) Priestley.

She was united in marriage to William Thomas Deegan in 1940 at the Catholic Rectory in Riceville. Mary was a homemaker and assisted her husband in farming until their retirement.

Survivors include one son, Thomas of Riceville; one grandson; one sister, Florence Lewis of Peuget Sound, WA; and one brother, Roland Priestley also of Peuget Sound, WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Charles Sooter; her parents; two brothers, Leonard and Johans; and two sisters, Shirley and Katy.


Viola Meyer

Funeral services for Viola Meyer of Ft. Atkinson were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 1996, in St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson. Interment was in the church cemetery with Chekal Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died following a sudden illness on Wednesday, December 11, 1996, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Survivors are her husband Frank of Ft. Atkinson; one daughter Joan Swestka of Cresco; two sons, Vern of Osage and Gerald of Ft. Atkinson; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceding in death by one brother, Robert Kuboushek of Calmar; and three sisters, Mildred Silhacek of Spillville; and Christine Rausch and Marcella Schmitt, both of Ft. Atkinson.


Helen Hove 

Funeral services for Helen Hove of rural Calmar were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 1996 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA. The Rev. Daniel Keppler officiated. Interment was in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery in Ridgeway with Balik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She died after a short illness Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Helen was born September 26, 1915, the daughter of John and Eleanor (Hauber) Barthelme, on a farm near Cresco. She attended school in Cresco, graduating in 1933.

On January 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Walter Hove at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco.

Survivors include her husband, Walter of rural Calmar; two daughters, Dianne Hopperstad of Waterloo; and Donna Johnson of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Berthelme of Cresco; and two sisters, Irene Marshall of Cedar Falls and Geraldine Fredrickson of Seattle, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jerome in infancy; and one sister Viola Ferrie.


Dorthy Ida Franks 

Services for Dorothy Ida Franks, 87, of Clear Lake, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 1996, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. The Rev. Fred Lewis officiated. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.

She died Saturday, December 21, 1996, at Muse Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit in Mason City.

Dorothy was born October 31, 1909 in Salida, CO, the daughter of Frank Lyle and Dulcie (Creighton)Washburn. At an early age she moved with her parents to Fulton, SD, where she graduated from high school in 1927. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings and graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1931. She taught two years in Groton, SD.

On June 28, 1933, she was married to Glenn W. Franks in Fulton, SD.

She was a life member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 20 years.

Survivors include three sons, Richard L. Franks of Cresco; J. Robert Franks of Alexandria, VA; and G. Ronald Franks of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death was her husband; her parents; and one brother, Earl Washburn.


Leo Wallace 

Services for Leo Wallace of Riceville were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 27, 1996, at Lindstrom Funeral Home. The Rev. Herschel Hawf officiated. Internment was in Riverside Cemetery with Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died Monday, December 23, 1996, at Riceville Community Rest Home.

Leo was born May 18, 1917, at Rudd, IA, the son of Harry and Gladys Jester Wallace. He lived in the Cresco and Osage area and received his education in Mitchell couanty.

In 1940 he married Dorothy Gay. He farmed for a few years, did trucking and then Leo was in the livestock business.

Leo was a member of the Riceville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; three sons, Karman of Richardson, TX; Curtis of Riceville; and Gerald of Estherville, IA; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milo of Jacksonville, AR; Melbourne (Bud) of Minneapolis; and one sister, Mrs. Bernard (Adeline) Lubbert of Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Francis.


Leon A. O'Brien

Funeral services for Leon A. O'Brien of Waterloo, IA, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 1996, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was held in Calvary Cemetery with Oppold-Hagarty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He died Saturday, December 21, 1996, at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Leon was born February 1, 1920, in Bluffton Township, the son of Andrew and Kathryn Fitzgerald O'Brien. He married Loretta Jirak on February 27, 1946 in Cresco.

He was employed by the REA as a lineman for 15 years. Then he and his family moved to Waterloo where he was a press operator at Waterloo Industries for 27 years, retiring in February 1985.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Tim of New Orleans; five daughters, Mary Thomas of Fayetteville, AR, Kathleen Fettkether of Ankeny, Noreen Purcell and Annette O'Brien, both of Waterloo, and Monica Nagel of London, England; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, twin Leone Bouska of Protivin, Marie O'Shea of Ridgeway and Alice Rand of Madison, NJ.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene O'Brien.


Tekla M. Carwell 

Tekla M. Carwell of Cresco were held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 30, 1996 at Cresco United Methodist Church. Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiated. Spring interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery with Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Tekla Carwell died Thursday, December 26, 1996, at Howard County Hospital. Tekla Margaret Carwell was born June 8, 1918, in Biblis, Germany, the daughter of George and Katharine (Barth) Reis. Tekla immigrated to the United States when she was three years of age. She received her U.S. citizenship in 1951.

On July 24, 1937, Tek married Russell Carwell in Dubuque. In 1942 they moved to Cresco and purchased the Western Auto Hardware Store. The operated the business under the name of Carwell Hardware and Electric until 1982 when they moved to El Paso, TX. Tekla returned to Cresco in 1993 and resided at the Evans Memorial Home.

She was the first president of the Howard County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, 20th Century Club, Clio Club and the Eastern Star.

In 1990 the Carwell Family made a gift of the former Harrison building to the citizens of Howard County for the use of Spectrum Industries.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Carwell of Rockford, MI; one daughter, Dorothy Christensen of Clear Lake, IA; four grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Reis of Addison, IL; and one sister, Mary Fransen of Dubuque, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents
