Frances D. Scoles, 79, of Charles City, formerly of Nashua, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua.

Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua, with Matt Dutka, Devon Dutka, Bill Wadey, Jr., Luke Wadey, Cody Winters, Jim Wolfe, Aaron Hauser, and Paul Larson serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

John Joseph Meyer Jr., 65, of New Hampton, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at his home.

A service celebrating the life of John will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Aug. 6) at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating.

Inurnment will be held in the New Hampton Cemetery with military rites conducted by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts and the Iowa Military Funeral Honors Unit.

IONIA — Hubert “Hoop” F. Burgart, 94, of Ionia, died Monday Aug. 16, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, with Fr. Mark Osterhaus celebrating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia with Hoop’s grandchildren serving as active casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Mose Finnegan, Lloyd Robbins, Bill Duncan, Bill Siglin, Gary Wegner, Bill Zwanziger, Arnie Boge, Louie Link, Timmy Burgart, Jerry Meyers, and his morning card playing group.

GREENE — Funeral services for Roberta Mae Barth, 91, of Greene, will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor John Hanna officiating.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene, where there will be a 7 p.m. Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour prior to services.

Roberta Mae Boyd was born May 27, 1919, in Benezette Township, Butler County, near Aredale, a daughter of Robert and Sarah (Courtney) Boyd and died Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Paul Jones, Sr., 53, of Lake Monroe, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at his parent’s home in Charles City while courageously fighting pancreatic cancer.

In celebration of Paul’s life the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. There will be a Scripture Service and time of sharing memories at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Paul Everett Jones, Sr., was born Sept. 9, 1956, at Welch, W.Va, the son of C. Columbus and Shirley (Jackson) Jones and was raised by Shirley and his step father Larry Rouse. He attended school at Niles, Mich. and later received his GED. Paul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Over the years he worked as a truck driver for various companies. His interests included restoring his 1971 Ford Torino 500, watching NASCAR and his favorite football team the Bengals.

After his diagnosis, he came to Charles City where he could be close to his family and be cared for by his parents. Paul will always be remembered as a loving father, son, grandfather and brother.


Living family members include a son, Paul (Michelle) Jones, Jr., of Waverly; a daughter, Nichole Jones, of Waverly; a brother, Eugene Jones, of Lake Monroe, Fla.; a sister, Linda Sisson, of Waukee; five grandchildren: Triston, Erikah, Mikah, Keagan and Adelyn Jones; a half sister, Jennifer Mclaughlin; two half brothers, Matthew Rota and Charlie Jones; a step brother, Rodney Rouse; a nephew, Joslin; and three nieces, Lacey, Brandy and Emily.

He was preceded in death by grandparents; a sister, Vivene Goodman; and a step brother, Rodney Rouse.
