Roger Allen Heffron was born Aug. 20, 1941, at Osage, the son of Milton and Violet “Shapley” Heffron. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On Feb. 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Judith Strauser at Nashua. Roger was employed at Salsbury for over 30 years as a chemical reactor operator. His interests included farmalls, antique tractors, target shooting, gardening and spending time with his family. Living family members include his wife, Judy Heffron of Charles City; two children, Mike (Tammy) Heffron of Charles City and Erin (Scott) Bockoven of Rudd; four grandchildren, Cara Heffron, Matt Heffron, Alexis Latch and Allison Pommrehn; three step-grandchildren, Trey Jacobs, Cory Jacobs and Julien Smith; two step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She attended school in Bedford and later received her GED. On June 17, 1966, she was united in marriage to Clayton Hull at the First Christian Church in Charles City. Over the years she worked at Ray’s Pizza and was a housekeeper. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Her interests included flowers, antiques, reading and singing. Living family members include her husband, Clayton Hull of Charles City; two step children, Robert (Christine) Hull of Dallas, Texas and Laurie Easley of Grapevine, Texas; three step grandchildren; five sisters, Naomi Moore of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Bradley of Mason City, Lois Young of Holstein, Ruth (Orville) Marsh of Stanton and Jean Marsh of Texas; two brothers, David (Sharon) Howes of Red Oak and Richard (Rosela) Howes of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was born in Charles City on Feb. 14, 1928, the son of Roy and Reka (Luecht) Matthews. When he was young, his family moved to Riceville, where Marvin attended school, graduating in 1946. He moved back to Charles City where he was a machinist for Oliver/White Farm. He retired from there after 33 years of service. Marvin was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Troutner on Dec. 5, 1953 in Nashua. Marvin was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and he participated in many DNR and Conservation programs. He also enjoyed volunteering with several children’s outdoor programs. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gwen; sons Douglas (fiancé, Beth) and James (Lynda) Matthews; brothers Roy (Janice) and Gene (Helen) Matthews; sisters Carole (Harley) Lines, Delores (Fred) Winning and Linda (Dave) Platz; two aunts; an uncle; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside memorial and interment services for the immediate family will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea, Minn. Eleanor had been a long time resident of Charles City and retired to Faribault, Minn. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Derald) Caruthers; two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was precedied in death as a child by her mother, Lydia, and later by her father, Clayton, and step-mother, Clara. Within this past six weeks she also lost her only sibling, Betty. He graduated from Ventura High School as valedictorian in 1936. Roy was united in marriage to Loretta Krapp on Nov. 13, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Rockwell. He farmed all of his life in North Iowa and lived at his current farm since 1952. He retired in 1988. Roy took pride in the cattle and sheep he raised, as well as his farm’s appearance. He volunteered as a 4-H leader and was a dealer for Crow’s Seed Corn. Roy enjoyed walking through the pastures, bird watching, reading westerns, watching sports (especially baseball) and crossword puzzles. Most of all, he loved his family and always took an interest in the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lettie, and brothers Don and Vernon. Kendrick & Emma Evans Roberts. He graduated from high school in Racine, Wis., and in 1935 received a B.A. in economics from Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis. On Dec.
27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Irene Muecke in Sioux Falls, S.D. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. Mr. Roberts was employed by J.I. Case Company for 15 years as a sales representative in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, South
Dakota and Northeast Iowa. In 1953 he and his family moved to Charles City, where he purchased a Ben Franklin store. In 1958, he and Irene bought an existing ladies specialty shop, which became Roberts Clothes of Charm operating five locations including Charles City, Mason City, Austin, Minn., Rochester, Minn., and Sioux Falls, S.D. He enjoyed his relationship with First Citizens National Bank Mason City, serving as a bank director for many years. He was on the board of the Charles City Cedar Valley Hospital and served as president of the Charles City Chamber of Commerce in 1959. He was a member of the United States Chamber of Commerce from 1960-1965, serving on the distribution and retail committee. Al was an advocate for Charles City. After the tornado demolished the downtown in 1968, he was the third merchant to sign a lease in the mall. When the Chevrolet dealership closed, he was instrumental in purchasing it and re-opening it. He was a co-owner of The Framing Connection. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a life-long member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the First Congregational Church in Charles City where he served on the Board of Trustees and taught Sunday school. He loved a beautiful yard, azaleas and buying cars and bragged about his great-granddaughters. Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Irene, daughter Susan Stilwell of Sioux Falls, S.D, and son David K. (Janet) Roberts of Mason City; five grandchildren: Peter (Erika) Stilwell, Dallas, Texas, Amy (Jade) Benson, Kansas City, Mo., Elizabeth (Christopher) Seab, Billings, Mont., Annette (Don) Dawson, Indianola and David Roberts of New York, N.Y. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Piper and Sloane Stilwell, Sara and Megan Benson and Don and Annie Dawson; his sister, Evalyn Vandervelde of Seattle, Wash.; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Roberts of San Marino, Calif. and Edie Muecke of Sioux Falls, S.D. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother The Rev. Dr. Edwin Roberts. Posted on 22 July 2009 by Marie Thompson Marjorie McMullen She was born July 16, 1924, in Charles City to Michael and Margaret Peters. She attended Immaculate Conception Church and School where she graduated. She married Leonard McMullen of Rockford on May 8, 1944. They were married in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In 1950 they moved to Mahtomedi, Minn. Leonard passed away in 1980, but she remained a resident for 55 years and was the last of the old timers to leave Grove St. She saw many changes over the years and loved living near the lake. She had many friends and loved to talk on the phone. She enjoyed reading magazines on those cold Minnesota days. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Pagles, Frances Holland, Katy Fuller and her twin sister Margaret Schnurrer, and one brother Thomas Peters. Survivors are daughter Patricia Cassedy and her husband Eugene of Corsicana, Texas; son Leonard B. McMullen Jr. of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one grandson, Shawn Cassedy og Plano, Texas; and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 8, at the Rockford Cemetery in Rockford.
Cornellia M. Siewertsen Published: A Funeral service was held Monday, July 27, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with Reverend Dr. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Cornellia was born July 28, 1918, in Swea City, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schluttner) Lang. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School. On March 1, 1938, Cornellia married Erwin Siewertsen in Albert Lea, Minn., and to this union eight children were born. Cornellia was a homemaker and farmwife, taking care of her children and helping her husband run the farm in Floyd. She was very active with all of the day to day operations on the farm. In her spare time Cornellia liked to crochet, garden and play cards. She especially enjoyed the trips she went on with the Nora Springs Care Center. Most of all Cornellia loved her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where she participated in many of their activities, the L.U.G.A., and the Senior Citizens Center of Rock Falls. She is survived by her children: Venita Roy of Apple Valley, Minn., Idona Sue (Jack) Patton of Cedar Rapids, Martha Torres of Waseca, Minn., Maynard (Debra) Siewertsen of Fredricksburg and Olene (Allen) Schroeder of Greene; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and her sister, Veronica Sutton of Mason City. Cornellia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Erwin; her daughters Dvona Siewertsen and Rosa Beth Bass; a daughter in infancy, Joann Siewertsen; her grandson, Darren Roy; six brothers, five sisters and many other relatives. He received his education in Nashua and later graduated from North Scott High School in Eldridge, in 1975. David worked for many years as a truck driver and then managed Raleigh Hill Golf Course in rural Ionia since 2003. He loved golfing, fishing, cooking, playing cards and shooting pool and the Cleveland Browns. He especially loved time with family and friends and was famous for his Davido pizza and ribs. He will be remembered by his family for his heart of gold, his smile and his hugs. Survivors include one daughter, Jessica Becker of LeClaire; beloved partner Kathy Vohsman of Waverly; his father, Ronald Becker of Nashua; three sisters, Rhonda (Ted) Brockhouse of Davenport, Terri (Mark) Johnston of Nashua and Tamara (Kenneth) Pilling of Colorado Springs, Col.; two brothers, Rodger (Zina) Becker of DeWitt and Charles (Jonnie) Becker of Nashua; as well as many nieces nephews and friends.
