Lynn Schlotterbeck

Lynn Schlotterbeck, 90, of Charles City, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lynn Schlotterbeck will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church. Pastor Phil Corr will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Francis Lynn Schlotterbeck was born Jan. 21, 1915, at Adair, the son of Gus and Frances (Anderson) Schlotterbeck. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School and from Grinnell College where he received his teaching degree. On Aug. 10, 1938, he was united in marriage to Opal Jorgensen at Guthrie Center. His working career included teaching and coaching in Grinnell and in Charles City, both in the public school and at the Immaculate Conception School, was then proprietor of the Floyd Crossing Elevator for several years and then worked as a salesperson for Mayfield Laboratories for 20 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. Other memberships included Kiwanis of which he was a charter member, past president and past Lieutenant Governor, the Rotary Club, the Masons where he again held several offices, was a Shriner, having been in command of the Shriner Horse Troop, a Jester, the Eastern Star and the Elks Club. His other interests included Arabian horses, fishing, playing golf and attending sporting events of which track was his favorite. Above all, however, was his love for and devotion to his family. Lynn always looked forward to the times they could spend together and share together.

Living family members include his wife, Opal, of Charles City; three children, Dennis (Linda) Schlotterbeck of Omaha, Neb, Larry (Jodell) Schlotterbeck of Dayton, Ohio, and Vicki Annis of Charles City; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Elizabeth Ann Hines

NEW HARTFORD - Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Hines, 73, of New Hartford, died on Monday evening, Aug. 29, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford. Burial will in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford.

Henrietta M. "Etta" Kuehne

DENVER - Henrietta M. "Etta" Kuehne, 107, of Denver, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 31, 2005, at the Denver Sunset Home in Denver.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., in Charles City with Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua.


Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the family in care of Henrietta's granddaughter, Judy Covey, 2511 Ridgetop Rd., Ames, IA 50014.

Henrietta Mable Kuehne was born Feb. 14, 1898, on the Kuehne family farm south of Charles City, the daughter of Amos and Rocelia (Kuhkan) Jacobs. Henrietta attended rural country school. Henrietta had lived in Greene, Nashua, Charles City, Waverly and Denver, throughout her life. She was dedicated to and devoted to her family and faith. Henrietta was united in marriage to Kurd Henry Kuehne on Feb. 16, 1916, at the family's home Southwest of Nashua. Henrietta attended and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the ladies aid circle in Nashua for many years. She farmed for many years beside her husband, Kurd on the Kuehne home place south of Powersville for many years. The couple moved to Greene where Henrietta worked as a nurse's aide and mid-wife. They continued to farm through the 1940s. The couple later bought the filling station on the south edge of Plainfield, which they owned and operated for several years. They eventually retired and moved to Nashua in the late 1960s. Henrietta moved to Charles City in 1977 to be near her husband, Kurd whom was being cared for in the nursing home. "Etta" as she was affectionately known by family and friends had a variety of interests which included crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking and gardening. She will be remembered for being kind and nurturing and when visiting her home the coffee was always ready and she graciously made sure you had enough to eat. She treasured her family and the time she spent with them. Henrietta was always willing to help and assist anyone at anytime. "Etta" will be best remembered for being a very hard worker.

Henrietta will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Henrietta's life are her two children, daughter, Irene Nelson of Waverly and son, Melvin Kuehne of Tripoli; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.

Preceding Henrietta in death are her parents; her husband, Kurd H. Kuehne on Oct. 15, 1979; two sisters, Adeline Schuett and Velma Allen; and her son-in-law, Clifford Nelson.

Anna Marie Henely

Anna Marie Henely, 75, of Charles City, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Anna Marie Henely will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Marty Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Howardville Cemetery, rural Floyd. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.Anna Marie Rasmussen Henely was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Wright County, the daughter of John and Amy (Benson) Rasmussen. She graduated from the Clarion High School in 1947 and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Anna Marie taught country school for three years. On Aug. 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gene Henely at Blue Earth, Minn. They moved to the Charles City area in 1949 and started farming in 1953. Anna Marie attended the Howardville Wesleyan Church where she was very active in many church activities. She was also a member of Wesleyan Women International, the Heritage Club, and had served as a 4-H leader for 10 years. Her hobbies included all types of gardening, fishing, sewing, embroidery, reading and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She and Gene also enjoyed traveling and had visited every state of the United States except Delaware. The highlight of traveling, however, was their trip to Australia and New Zealand. Family was also very important to Anna Marie and she looked forward to those times they could have together.

Living family members include her husband, Gene of Charles City; a son, Kenneth (Darla) Henely of Charles City; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Henely of Forest City; five grandchildren, Joe, Eric, Martin, Tom and Philip Henely; a great grandson, Jonathan Henely; and two sisters, Dorothy Egge of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marcia (Lloyd) Abrams of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Fredrick Henely; and a sister, Mary Rasmussen.

NASHUA - Lucille M. Parker, 71, of Manchester formerly of Nashua passed away Wednesday evening, Aug. 31, 2005 at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. C. E. "Jess" Jespersen

C. E. "Jess" Jespersen 88, of Nashua passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua. Burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens near Charles City with military rites by Nashua V.F.W. Post # 6792. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Elaine Jespersen of Nashua; one son, David Jespersen of Rockford; three grandchildren, Sean (Jen) Jespersen of Ontario, Ore., Scott (Jill) Jespersen of Coralville and Megan Jespersen of Charles City; four great-grandchildren, Sloane and Jakob Jespersen, Christian and Norah Jespersen; one sister, Ruth Ella Reck of Muskegon, Mich.

Jess was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Edward and Martha Jespersen.

Clarence Edward "Jess" Jespersen was born in Litchfield, Mich. on June 12, 1917, the son of Dr. Edward and Martha (Jorgensen) Jespersen. He moved to Wisconsin with his family and graduated fro High School in Waukesha, Wis. Jess enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 9, 1941 (the day after Pearl Harbor) and served his country for seven years, being honorably discharged as a staff sergeant with numerous medals and commendations.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Elaine Pyle on March 2, 1947 in Carson City, Nev. To this union one son, David was born. Following his discharge, they moved to Nashua. Jess started a portable milling business and ground feed for area farmers for the next 20 years. In 1968, he became the products and distribution manager for Farm Service CO-OP in Charles City, retiring in 1988. Jess was a member of Nashua United Methodist Church and Nashua V.F.W. He enjoyed taking trips in his RV, woodworking and the outdoors.


Dorothy Smith

RUDD - Dorothy Smith, 83, of Rudd, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Dorothy Smith will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Nora Springs Christian Church. Pastor Glen Bandel will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

 

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Dorothy Henrietta Blunt Smith was born Oct. 9, 1921, at Rudd, the daughter of Virgil and Grace (Helmers) Blunt. She received her education at Nora Springs. On Dec. 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to Charles Smith at Albert Lea, Minn. They farmed all their lives in the Nora Springs area. From 1966 to 1973, Dorothy was proprietor of the Midtown Caf/ in Nora Springs. She then was employed at North Iowa Area Community College in food service department. Dorothy was a member of the Nora Springs Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Community Club. Her hobbies included cooking, delighting in giving everyone a meal or lunch, and playing bingo and cards. Dorothy's greatest interest, however, was bluegrass and gospel music. She would sit by the hour enjoying these forms of musical expression.

Living family members include a daughter, Lois (Howard) Eliasen of Bella Vista, Ark.; two grandsons, Ken (Sherrie) Eliasen of Atlanta, Ga., and Tony (Kristi) Eliasen of Bentonville, Ark.; four great grandsons, Tyler, Malachi, Clay and Drew Eliasen; three step great grandchildren, Dan and Matt McCormick and Jennifer Ordenana; two sisters, Vera Krause and Vivian (Lavonne) Eichmeier both of Rockford; two brothers, Edwin Blunt and Dennis (Shirley) Blunt both of Montana; a special uncle, Glen Blunt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a great granddaughter, Megan Eliasen; and three sisters, Lola, Arlene and Marie.

Teri Gabrie

OELWEIN - Teri Gabriel, 45, of Oelwein, died suddenly on Thursday morning, Sept. 1, 2005, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.A memorial fund has been established.

Theresa Louise "Teri" Maulsby was born on Dec. 6, 1959, at Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford Francis and Sharon Kay (Mooberry) Maulsby. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1978 and received her AA degree in criminal justice from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Teri was united in marriage to Steven Karl Gabriel on June 12, 2003, in Independence. Teri loved to play golf, bowl and hang out with her family and friends. She enjoyed landscaping and working in her yard.

Living family members include her husband: Steve Gabriel of Oelwein; mother-in-law, Marcia Gabriel (friend: Dwight) of Madrid; seven children: Jennifer Hall (fianc/: Trent Lamphier) of Oelwein, Dustin Hall of Cedar Falls, Dannielle Hoffman of Oelwein, Ben Gabriel of Madrid, Joe Gabriel of Manchester, Nick Gabriel (fianc/: Kelli Boyle) of Cedar Rapids and Elizabeth Gabriel of Oelwein; three grandchildren: Skylar Hall, Andrew Hall and Grace Gabriel; five brothers and sisters: Michael (Janice) Maulsby of Ventura, Patricia (James) Stephenson of Ames, Thomas (Linda) Maulsby of Clear Lake, Tammy (Mark) Mowrer of Robins and Thomas (Kristin) Maulsby of Romeoville, Ill.; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Neil K. Griffin

Neil K. Griffin, 65, of 2623 Wandering Acres Dr., Charles City, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2005 at his home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., in Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag and Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Neil Kelsey Griffin was born Dec. 21, 1939 in Holland, Ohio to George and Leone (Albon) Griffin, Sr. He attended school in Ohio and graduated high school in 1957. He furthered his education as an instructor at the Police Academy in Des Moines. On Dec. 31, 1983 Neil was united in marriage to Marianne P. Geremia in Grace Episcopal Church at Charles City. Neil had made his home in Charles City for the last 35 years. Neil had been employed as trooper with the Iowa State Patrol in law enforcement, retiring in 1986 with 26 years of service.

Neil took great pleasure and pride in providing for his family. He will be best remembered by his family as being a kind and gentle man, a loving husband, father and grandfather and having a wonderful and unique sense of humor.

Some of Neil's interests, passions and leisure activities included his love for flying ultra-light airplanes, racing motorcycles, fishing, camping and being afforded the opportunity of extensive travel to such places as Nova Scotia, Cape Cod and all across the United States. Neil will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Neil's life are his loving and devoted wife, Marianne Griffin of Charles City; his father, George Griffin, Sr. of Maquoketa; his children, Brad Riedemann of Charleston, Ill., Andrea Brown of Burnsville, Minn., Robbin Schmitt of Farmington, Minn., Amy Lines of Marble Rock, and Matt Griffin of Charles City; his eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild and four sisters, Mara, Lisa, Dawn and Jan.

Neil was preceded in death by his mother, Leone; and one brother, George Griffin, Jr.

Helen Wright

Helen Wright, 88, of Charles City, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Helen Wright will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Gayle Wilcox of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.

Helen Mary Zacharda Wright was born Nov. 9, 1916, at St. Ansgar, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Rench) Zacharda. In 1935, she graduated from St. Ansgar High School. On Jan. 8, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Wright at Osage. They later divorced. Helen worked as a waitress at the Comet Bowl, the Boulevard, the Maid-Rite and the Mini Mart, retiring in the late 1970s. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Senior Citizens Center, White Farm Pensioners and a 50 year member of the Western Fraternal Lodge in Mason City. Helen's interests included flower gardening, playing bingo, dancing and spending time with family and friends. Holiday celebrations were always very important to Helen and she looked forward to them with great anticipation.

Living family members include two children, Jane (Jim) Frisbie of Charles City and John (Mary) Wright of Marion; four grandchildren, Vincent Boge of Charles City, Jason Boge of Rochester, Minn., Jocelyn Wright of Marion and Benjamin Wright of Coralville; four great grandchildren, Megan and Mitchel Boge and Brennon and Brielle Wright; a brother, Eddie Zacharda of St. Ansgar; a sister, Rosie Anderson of Austin, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Leona Zacharda of St. Ansgar and Agnes Zacharda of California.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Marie Zacharda; three brothers, Frank, Rudy and George Zacharda; and special friend, Arlo Young.

Harold J. Kelleher Jr

NASHUA - Harold J. Kelleher Jr, 74, of Nashua, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 5, 2005, at his home in Nashua.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua with burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens near Charles City with Military Rites by Nashua V.F.W. Harold J. Kelleher Jr

NASHUA - Harold J. Kelleher Jr., 74, of Nashua, passed away Monday evening, September 5, 2005, at his home in Nashua.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2005, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua with burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens near Charles City with Military Rites by Nashua V.F.W. Post 6792. Visitation will be today, Thursday, September 8, 2005, from 3-7 p.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.Harold J. Kelleher, Jr. was born September 21, 1930, at Charles City, the son of Harold J. and Elda (Koehler) Kelleher. He moved to Waterloo with his family and graduated from Iowa State Teacher's High School in Cedar Falls in 1949. He then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls for two years. Harold served for two years with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage to Charlotte Greenwood on June 26, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. To this union 10 children were born. They moved to Nashua in 1967. They were later divorced. Harold married Betty Hahn at the First Congregational Church in Nashua on October 22, 1983.

Harold was a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo for many years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Nashua V.F.W., Moose Lodge of Charles City and Nashua Town & Country Club. Harold loved to dance and play cards, he also enjoyed woodworking, stamp and coin collecting and John Deere memorabilia. His grandchildren were a very important part of Harold's life.

He is survived by his wife Betty; his children: Terrance (Chae-Sun) Ross of Lawton, Ok., Harold (Judy) Kelleher III of Nashua; Kendall (Tina) Kelleher of Nashua, Randall (Pat) Kelleher of Denver, Kathleen (Wayde) Henry of Charles City, Warren (Janice) Kelleher of Waukee, Mildred (Richard) Liddle of Plainfield, Elda Nargang of Nashua and Peggy Lane of Nashua; two step-sons: David (Carol) Hahn of Chehalis, Wash., and Doug (Cindy) Hahn of Nora Springs; one step-daughter, Becky (Bill) Schmidt; one brother, Myron Kelleher of Waterloo; one sister, Karen OâConnell of Fredericksburg; 39 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Harris; a step-daughter, Nancy; his parents; one brother, Frances Kelleher; and one sister, Joann Pearce.

Jack J. Olenjniczak

WATERLOO - Senior Master Sgt. Jack J. Olenjniczak, 69, of Waterloo and a 1954 graduate of Charles City High School, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of cancer.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 8, 2005, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service in Waterloo, with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Full military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Joseph Paul Mackamul

REDLANDS, Calif. - Joseph Paul Mackamul, 75, passed away August 17, 2005, following aneurism surgery at Redlands community hospital in California. Funeral services were held August 26, at 11 a.m. in Highland Congregational Church. Cremation and inurnment took place in California.

Joe was born in Colwell on December 11, 1929. He attended and graduated from the Charles City School System, class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952. He was a graduate of Gates Business College in Waterloo. In 1950, he and Pauline Haugh, of New Hampton, were married at Wichita Falls, Texas. They are the parents of six sons. He and Pauline owned and operated Ringstead Cleaners until 1959, when they moved to Highland. Joe retired from Lien Chemical in 1984. After his retirement, he diligently worked in the family business, Carbide Saw and Tool

Until his death, Joe was an avid gardener and enjoyed volunteer work at Highland Congregational Church. He cherished his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pauline; his sons Jeffery (Bonnie-Jean), Mark (Sandy), Nick (Flora), Nathan (Carianne) and Phillip (Heidi) of Highland and Kevin (Rhonda) of Simi Valley; 16 grandchildren that he adored; a brother George (Peggy) of Waverly; a sister Ann (Robert) Hume of Charles City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Nicholas; mother Mae; brothers Donald and Lester; sister Delores and Lee Swinton of Waterloo.

He leaves each of us a legacy of perseverance, joyfulness and charity. An example to us all of a model friend,husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

OSAGE - Bernadine L. Tjaden, age 79, of Charles City, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a rosary at 2:15 p.m.

Bernadine was born May 31, 1926, on a farm near Osage, the daughter of Ernest and Mildred (Tibbitts) Wagner. She attended country school near Osage. After completion of her schooling, Bernadine helped on her parent's farm east of Osage. On Feb. 11, 1942, Bernadine was united in marriage to Robert F. Lence. To this union was born four daughters. Bernadine was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed rug hooking, cards, fishing, and dancing.

Bernadine is survived by four daughters: Anita Goetsch, of Charles City, Betty Schwab, of Charles City, Kathy Rademacher and husband, Bill, of Rogers, Minn., Diane Vance and husband, Dennis, of Charles City; a brother, Lu Verne Wagner and wife, Louise, of Osage; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mildred Wagner; and her husband, Robert F. Lence.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Thomas F. Burns, 91, a former Charles City resident, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 in Phoenix, Ariz., where he has lived for the past 20 years.

Funeral services will be held at Green Acre Mortuary & Cemetery in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

He received his education in Charles City schools, graduating with the class of 1933.

He served in the Navy during World War II. Tom was employed at the B & B Clothing store both before and after the war, for a total of 18 years. In 1982, he retired from Mayfield Laboratories, as vice president of sales after 28 years.

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His first wife, Ida, passed away in1984 while they were wintering in Lake Montezuma, Ariz. In January of 1985, he married Eleanor Lynch Beckwith in Phoenix, Ariz.

Tom is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two daughters, Patricia Fox now of Phoenix, Ariz., and Debra Peters, Flagstaff, Ariz.; three granddaughters; a grandson; and seven great-grandchildren.

His parents, Emmett and Rose Burns, both preceded him in death.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to God's Provision of Valley Cathedral Church in Phoenix or Hospice of Arizona.

Lorraine Friedrich, 83, of Charles City, died Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lorraine Friedrich will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Carol Lorraine Friedrich was born Aug. 18, 1922, at Greene, the daughter of Fred and Daisy (Young) Kapka. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1940. On June 15, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Friedrich at Charles City. They resided all their lives in Charles City. Harold died on Dec. 4, 2001. Lorraine was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served in numerous capacities, Pythian Sisters, Charles City Women's Club, YMCA and Marathon Bridge. Her special interests included cooking, canning and freezing "just about everything" and watching golf and Hawkeye football. Lorraine's family always held a special place in her heart and she looked forward to spending as much time with them as she could. The grandchildren will always remember how much she enjoyed playing cards and board games with them.

Wayne A. Stanton, 91, of New Hampton, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Wayne Arnold Stanton was born April 12, 1914, at Owatonna, Minn., the son of Cleade and Fannie (Housman) Stanton. He grew up in the Rose Creek and London areas of Minnesota and attended country school. After his schooling, Wayne farmed with his family. On Dec. 4, 1933, he was united in marriage to Opal Heiny in Austin, Minn. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Austin and Lyle, Minn., area. In 1959, the couple moved to the New Hampton area and in 1964 purchased a farm west of New Hampton where he was currently residing. Over the years, Wayne farmed and bought and resold cattle as well as hauling livestock for area producers. He was also known to help the local 4-H members by hauling their livestock to weigh ins free of charge. Wayne truly enjoyed his cattle buying and hauling business. He also enjoyed morning coffee and cards in Ionia and going to Opal's Las Amigas Club gatherings with her. Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Trustee at the church.

Wayne is survived by his three children: Eleanor (Kenneth) Hollerud of Austin, Minn., Dorothy Beyer and Duane (Marilyn) Stanton, both of New Hampton; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; four brothers Don (Olga) Stanton of Austin, Minn., Jerry Stanton of Minneapolis, Minn., Loren (Roberta) Stanton of Austin, Minn., and Norman (Susan) Stanton of New York; two sisters Holly Young of Eugene, Ore., and Lois (John) Huntting of Grandview, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Opal on July 15, 2005, and three brothers: Glen, Naurice and Dale.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Kenneth J. Logan, 71, formerly of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minn.

Rochester, Minn. on Friday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Caesar Dralega will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, September 15, with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City on Friday, at 2:30 p.m.

Kenneth was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Charles City. He married Shirley Popes on June 23, 1952, and they lived in Charles City until moving to Owatonna, Minn., where they lived for 22 years. They then moved to Rochester, where they have lived for the last 33 years. Shirley passed away April 17, 2005.

He was a grocer all his life, working as a grocer in Owatonna and then as a manager at Barlow Foods in Rochester until retiring in 1993. Shirley was a homemaker. Kenneth loved to watch wrestling, NASCAR and the Vikings. He also enjoyed working with wood and going to woodcraft shows.

Surviving Kenneth are his sons: Michael (Deborah) Logan of Byron, Minn. and Scott Logan of Maui, Hawaii; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Chestnut of Charles City and Judy (Joe) Merfeld of Nashua.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, two sons and three brothers.

Ruth Clara Deverell Horkman was born on July 26, 1924, in Charles City to Emil and Clara (Heitz) Ziebell. She was the only daughter and second child born to her parents and spent her entire life in Floyd and Cerro Gordo Counties.

Ruth attended school in Rockford and graduated among her senior class in 1942. While in high school, she earned a teaching certificate and taught school the next few years at the rural Rockford country school. Several of her former students had remained life-long friends.

On March 25, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to Ralph K. Deverell at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. The couple became the busy parents of five children. Ralph died in March of 1984.

Ruth was employed at several area businesses in accounting, as a bookkeeper or clerk positions. Many in the area will well-remember her when she was working at KGLO, the Rockford State Bank or the City of Rockford as the city clerk.

In December of 1990, Ruth married Dennis Horkman and the couple lived in Concordia, Kan. Dennis died in 1995 and Ruth made the decision to move back to Iowa.

Ruth spent countless hours fabric shopping for just the right quilting material. She made quilts for many of her family members and friends, but was especially proud to have made a quilt a month and donated it to the Bremwood Lutheran Children's Home in Waverly. She was known to keep her family literally on "pins and needles" in her home as they would entangle in her carpet and furniture when she was working on the latest quilt. Ruth collected memorabilia of butterflies, coca-cola and angels. She also found her thimble collection to be fascinating. Ruth was an avid reader, liked playing "500" and rummy and watching movies and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth's children recall that their Mom was a wonderful baker, specializing in pecan rolls, pies and cookies. She admired yellow roses and had a great sense of humor. The neighborhood kids loved coming to Ruth's home, especially on Sunday nights, to eat huge bowls of popcorn and of course, drink coca-cola.

Those left to cherish the memory of Ruth's life include her children, David Deverell of Waynesboro, Pen.; Cliff Deverell of Vermillion, S.D.; Ann (Mike) Boltz of Circleville, Kan.; Paul Deverell of Mason City and Alan (Becky Tousend) Deverell of Salina, Kan.. Ruth will also be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Ruth in death are her two husbands, Ralph Deverell and Dennis Horkman; her parents, Emil and Clara Ziebell and her brother, Clarence Ziebell.

Bruce Fisher

Bruce Fisher, 59, of Charles City, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City following a courageous battle with cancer.

A funeral Mass for Bruce Fisher will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Bruce Curtis Fisher was born May 21, 1946, at Charles City, the son of Gerald and Leona (Rademacher) Fisher. He graduated from the Immaculate Conception School in 1964. Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966-1969. He had two cruises on the USS Klondike, serving part of that time in Vietnam, and he also served at the naval air station, Almeda, Calif.

On June 7, 1974, he was united in marriage to Marta Notheisen at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Bruce's working career included employment with Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company, manager of the V.F.W., Featherlite and Moore-Wallace. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed being around and visiting with people. Bruce was a member of the Amvets, the American Legion, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and served with the Charles City ceremonial unit.

Living family members include his wife, Marta of Charles City; a son, Christopher (Katie) Fisher of New Hampton; his step mother, Frances Jean Fisher of Charles City; a sister, Constance (Jerry) Wilson of Antioch, Ill.; a brother, Craig (Jeanne) Fisher of Charles City and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Brian Fisher.

Helen Berdene Webster was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Mitchell County, the daughter of Fred and Harriet (Reynolds) Titus. She graduated from Osage High School in 1935 and then Hamilton Business College. On Dec. 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Keith Webster. Helen worked for the Mitchell County Farm Bureau and Extension Service, Floyd County Farm Bureau and Extension Service and as the city clerk for the City of Charles City. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Floyd County Museum, Charles City Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Helen's interests included working crossword puzzles, collecting cardinal figurines, politics with special interest in Charles City politics. She was also involved with the Dollars for Scholars program. Friends were always a very important part of her life and she always looked forward to those times together.

Living family members include five nieces, Beverly (Marvin) Brandt of Stewartville, Minn., Clarice (Mike) Milligan of Charles City, Carol (Don) Ulwelling of Rose Creek, Minn., Mary Jane (Doug) Madsen of South Lyon, Mich., and Barbara (Robert) Sterling, Sr. of Boise, Idaho; two nephews, Edward (Marilyn) Schmidt of Stevensville, Mont., and Jason (Andrea) Webster of Charles City, a brother-in-law, Ray (Lois) Webster of Charles City; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

GULFPORT, Miss. - James Kyle Jones, age 65, formerly of Nashua died Saturday, Sept.18 2005, of natural causes.

There will be a memorial service held Thursday Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Chickasaw Park. Military rites will be conducted by the Nashua V.F.W. Post # 6792. The family is requesting no flowers.

James was born June 23, 1940, son of Neal and Mary (Rodamaker) Jones. James graduated from Nashua High School in 1958. After high school, he served in the Navy. Jim married Wilma Fisher in 1981, and was later divorced.

Jim is survived by three children: Brett Jones and family of Spencer, Robin Lamy and family of Pearlington, Miss., and Casey Jones and family of Gulfport, Miss.; one brother, Thomas (Sandy) Jones of Vallejo; two step-sisters, Jan (Rodney) Joslin of Charles City and Wilhenime Deyo of Waterloo; three step-children, all of Nashua: Rhonda (Dave) Rosol and family, Cherri (Jeff)Welter and family, Tim (Tonya) Fisher and family; two uncles, David Rodamaker and Clyde Bonzer, both of Charles City; one aunt, Lenore Rodamaker of Nashua; 18 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Betty Arlene Harrold

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Our beloved mother, Betty Arlene Harrold, went home to heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005.

Friends are invited to attend the grave site service at Sunnyside Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The service will be conducted by Pastor Allan Simms.

Betty is a native of Charles City. After her children were raised, she moved to Tallahassee, Fla. She was known as "Mom" on Florida State University campus where she served as house director for sororities and fraternities. She was a longtime resident of Georgia Bell, her cherished community of friends.

Betty loved life. She traveled the country and world, making friends wherever she went.

She is survived by her five children: Bob Harrold and his wife Tanya of Orlando, Fla., Barbara Jansse and her husband John of San Francisco, Calif., Bill Harrold and his wife Barbara of Tallahassee, Fla., Becky Scott and her husband Chester of Lemoore, Calif., and Bruce Harrold and his wife Michele of Charles City; three sisters: Jeanette Smith of Everett, Wash., Beverly Gentzler and her husband Norman of Houston, Texas, and Carol Seter and her husband Cliff of Charles City; her beloved sister-in-law and card-playing partner, Shirley Guthart of Charles City; a brother, Raymond Guthart of Gretville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Alva Lynch and Rosemary O'Neill and three brothers, Wendell "Bud" Guthart, Jack Guthart and Larry Guthart preceded her to heaven.

James Kyle Jones

GULFPORT, Miss. - James Kyle Jones age 65, formerly of Nashua died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, of natural causes.

There will be a memorial service held Thursday Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Chickasaw Park. Military rites will be conducted by the Nashua V.F.W. Post # 6792. The family is requesting no flowers.James was born June 23rd, 1940, son of Neal and Mary (Rodamaker) Jones. James graduated from Nashua High School in 1958. After high school, Jim served in the Navy. NASHUA - Margaret T. Becker, 91, of Nashua, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 21, 2005, at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Phyllis M. Retterath

WATERLOO - Phyllis M. Retterath, 66, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Allen Hospital. She was the sister of Mary Crooks of Charles City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a 2 p.m. graveside service at Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. John 'J.W.' Walter

John 'J.W.' Walter, 80, of Charles City, died after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at his son's home surrounded by his family.

A funeral Mass for John Walter will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Reverend Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. James, Minn.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. where the Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

John Francis Walter was born on June 18, 1925, in New Ulm, Minn., the son of Edward and Anna (Bregel) Walter. He grew up in rural Fairfax, Minn., where he attended Fairfax High School. After High School he moved to St. James, Minn., where he worked on his Uncle "Doc" Bregel's farm. During this time, he met Arleen A. Neuman. They were married at the St. James Catholic Church on Feb.11, 1947. In 1945, he went to work at Tony Downs Foods Company in St. James. He was hired as a truck driver and through his 33 years of employment with Tony Downs Foods, he was a supervisor, plant manager and purchasing agent. During the last few years of his employment with Tony Downs, he and Arleen fulfilled their dream and bought a small establishment in Pemberton, Minn., which they called The JW Bar. They sold the bar in 1983. After his employment with Tony Downs, he went to work with his son, Michael, at All States Quality Foods in Charles City, where he was in charge of purchasing and shipping. He retired from All States in 2002. John was a hard-working man, who in his spare time enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Long Lake and his son's house at Lake of The Ozarks, golfing, boating, playing cribbage, bowling and attending sporting events of his grandchildren. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, grandchildren, his great-grandchild and his many, many friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Frozen Foods Organization.

John is survived by his son Michael (Carol) Walter of Charles City; a daughter, Angela (Tony) Sokolofsky of Ormsby, Minn.; grandchildren, Christina (Aaron) Hoeft of Liberty, Mo., Ryan Walter of Kansas City, Mo., Adam Walter of Iowa City, Alexandra Walter of Iowa City, Katie Saunders and Kristoffer Saunders of Ormsby, Minn.; a great-granddaughter, Daley Hoeft; three sisters, Delores Hayes of Prior Lake, Minn., Lucille Urdesich of Minnetonka, Minn., Mary Lou Reiser of Long Lake, Minn.; a brother, Howard Walter of Faribault, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; wife, Arleen on Oct. 24, 1990; a daughter Julie Miller; and many other relatives.

"J.W.," as many people called him, was a truly dedicated family man and friend. He touched more lives than he ever knew and will be missed dearly by everyone who know him.

Darrell Charles Dugan

WAVERLY - Darrell Charles Dugan, 76, of Waverly, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Mike Tauke officiating. Burial will be held at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. A scripture service will be held on Monday at 7 p.m.Darrell was born on Dec. 27, 1928, in Charles City, the son of Percy and Elizabeth (Meyer) Dugan. He attended school at Immaculate Conception Catholic School, graduating in 1947. Following school, Darrell worked at the George P. Smith Company until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in June 1948. He was honorably discharged in June 1952. On June 26, 1954, Darrell was united in marriage to Lorna Sears at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City where Darrell attended Linotype School. The couple later moved to Waverly in April 1955. Darrell began working for the Waverly Publishing Company, now called Colorfx, where he worked for 38 years, retiring in December 1993.

Darrell was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching sports (which he was an avid Iowa fan), and especially spending time with his family.

Darrell is survived by his wife Lorna of Waverly; two daughters: Kathryn Busching and her husband, Garry, of Waverly, Claudia Quiggle and her husband, Randy, of Savage, Minn.; one son, Gary Dugan and his wife, Sally, of Andover, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Erin, Emily and Matt Bryan, Kelly and Lauren Quiggle, Christopher and Chad Dugan; and by his twin sister, Dolores Anderson and her husband, Carrol, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Dugan.

Rolando Ibarra Perez

FLOYD - Our beloved father and husband, Rolando Ibarra Perez, age 52, went home to heaven on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. He died at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City after a courageous battle with cirrhosis.

There will be a memorial service Friday, September 30, 2005 at the Yeager Barrera Funeral Home in Eagle Pass, Texas, (830) 773-3211.

 

Rolando was born May 19, 1953, in Eagle Pass, Texas, the son of Fructoso and Guadalupe (Ibarra) Perez. Rolando attended the schools in Eagle Pass, Texas. His employment through the years took him to California, Wisconsin, Washington, Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota and finally settling down in Iowa. His last places of employment were Sparebo in New Hampton and SMI in Cresco.

Rolando so loved life. He enjoyed walks to the library, feeding the ducks with his granddaughter, Elayna, visiting his children and mother in Texas, swimming, going to the beach and spending time with his family.

Rolando married Dawn Hulbert on Feb. 12, 2005 at the Celebration Church in Waterloo.

He is survived by four children and three stepchildren: Angelica Rodriguez and her husband Gabriel of Texas City, Texas, Rolando Jr. and his wife Veronica of Pasadena, Texas, Maria Guadalupe Perez and Veronica Perez of Pasadena, Texas, Jerry Hulbert Jr. and his fiancee Kathy Grittman of Waterloo and Kristin and Heaven Hulbert both at home in Floyd; his wife Dawn Maria Perez also of Floyd; his mother Guadalupe Perez of Eagle Pass, Texas; two brothers Fructoso Jr. (Jr.) Perez and his wife Esperanza (Hope) and Juan Perez and his wife Inez, all of Dallas, Texas. Rolando has 13 grandchildren and is expecting a grandchild in December, all from Texas; and two step-granddaughters in Iowa. Also the mother of his beloved children, Maria Isabel Flores of Texas City, Texas.

Rolando's father, Fructoso Perez, and stepdaughter, Traci Lee Hulbert, preceded him to heaven.

Rolando was a very loving person and was loved by all who met him.

Mary Beth Guthart

 

DENVER, Colo. - Mary Beth Guthart passed away Sept. 21, 2005 in Denver, Colo. She was the daughter of the late Wendell "Bud" and Bette Guthart of Charles City. She was born on Dec. 26, 1956 in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1975. She later moved to the Denver, Colo. area.

She is survived by four children: Val Pina of Arizona, Tony Pina of Colorado, Cody Harrison of South Dakota and Catlin Harrison of Arizona; two sisters: Glenda Guthart of Daly City, Calif., and Gloria and Kirk West of Isleton, Calif.; a brother, Wendell "Butch" and Suann Guthart of Davenport; one granddaughter Casie Paige Pina of Peoria, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by both of her parents.

A memorial service will be at a later date in Colorado.

Doris M. Lawson

INDIANOLA - Services for Doris M. Lawson, 98, who died, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center in Indianola, will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 28, at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F Cemetery, Indianola.

Mrs. Lawson was born Oct. 8, 1906, in Indianola, the daughter of Frank and Nellie Lester. Her marriage to Walter P. Lawson took place on Dec. 23, 1939 at the Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Mich. She and her husband made their home in Detroit until 1966 when they retired to Indianola. Walter preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1985Mrs. Lawson was a homemaker and mother, raising her only child, Blair. She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church and the Warren County Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her son, Blair Lawson and his wife, Marilyn Pilgrim Lawson, of Indianola; three step-grandchildren: Kevin (Frani) Pilgrim of Gravette, Ark., Denise (Robert) Goff of Sandy, Utah, and Noel (Christina) Pilgrim of Folsom, Calif.; eight step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; two nephews and three great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Lawson; two brothers, Harold and Orville Lester and a niece.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where the family will be present to greet friends during this time.

Ernest Williamson, 93, of Charles City, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Ernest Leslie Williamson was born Sept. 24, 1912, at Hiteman, the son of John and Gladys (Masters) Williamson. He graduated from the Williamson High School. On May 18, 1935, he was united in marriage to Lucille Kapler at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco. Ernest worked for the Oliver Corporation for several years then briefly for the Chicago Illinois Central Railroad returning to the Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company from which he retired and then worked as a manufacturer's sales representative.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Charles City Country Club and the White Management Club of which he had served as president. His special interests included playing golf and chess, doing yard work and traveling. Ernest will always be remembered as being a family man. He took every opportunity to spend time with them and give himself to them. Family vacations were always a very special time for each one.

Living family members include his wife Lucille Williamson of Charles City; a daughter, Marlene Doran of New York, N.Y.; a son, Duane (Debbie) Williamson of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Scott Williamson; a great-granddaughter, Madoline Williamson; three brothers, John (Martha) Williamson of Sun City West, Ariz., Charles Williamson of Largo, Fla., and Philip (Dorothy) Williamson of Edina, Minn.; and a sister, Grace (Robert) Garrison of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Shelby Williamson; two brothers, Harry and Arthur Williamson; and two sisters, Jessie Edwards and Frances Dibbern.

DUBUEQUE - Harold "Joby" Tindell died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Manor Care Center in Dubuque.

Survivors include, one daughter, Starla Tindell of Charles City; two sons, Randy Tindell of New Hampton, and Greg Tindell of Clarksville, Ark.; one sister, Kitty Klein of Tiffin; four brothers, Gerald "Red" Block of Guttenberg, Tom Moreland of Dubuque, Frank Moreland of Dubuque, and John Moreland of Iowa City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Bluhm

Evelyn Bluhm, 91, formerly of 113 Park Drive, Charles City, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone.

Funeral services for Evelyn Bluhm will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. Pastor Phil Corr will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Evelyn Lucile Lynch Bluhm was born March 14, 1914, in Floyd, the daughter of Walter and Nettie (Wiltsie) Lynch. She graduated from the Floyd High School in 1932, where she had served as the captain of the girls basketball team. Evelyn then attended the Charles City College. On June 18, 1932, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Bluhm at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. Evelyn and Kenneth owned and operated the Bluhm Electric Company for many years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Pythian Sisters, in which she held various local and state offices, the Charles City Women's Club, City Improvement and Soroptomists. Evelyn's interests included reading and writing poetry, raising violets and attending church services and activities. She will be remembered as a very civic-minded and patriotic person.

Living family members include a son, Dr. Delwyn (Gerogia) Bluhm of Ames; a daughter, Kathleen (Rees) Hakanson of Boone; five grandchildren, Jenee (Randy) Rinderknecht, Leah (Jim) Brunk, David Bluhm, Amy (Mark) Atchley and Bo (Brenda) Hakanson; and 12 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Briana and Nolan Rinderknecht, Zachary Hakanson, Cody and Nathaniel Brunk, Casey Bluhm, Diana, Becca and Jenna Atchley, Alyssa Hazlet, and Holly and Jayden Hakanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son, Douglas Bluhm; and nine brothers and sisters.

Marvin Alvin Vietor

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Marvin Alvin Vietor, 77, of 2255 240th Street, Marble Rock, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Sunnyside Memory Garden Chapel, Old Highway 218 South, Charles City. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens with Military Honors conducted by Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunnyside Memory Garden Chapel and an hour before services on Thursday.Marvin Alvin Vietor was born Feb. 1, 1928, in rural Pleasant Grove Township, Floyd County, a son of Ulfred Abel and Rosa May (Gifford) Vietor, and died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at his farm in rural Marble Rock.

He received his education in the Charles City Public Schools. He was inducted into the United States Army on Jan. 14, 1953, where he served with 803 Engineer Aviation Battalion. He was honorably discharged Dec. 14, 1954.

On Aug. 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Bertha Darlyne Harrell at Barbourville, Ky. They lived on the Vietor family farm from 1955 to 1962.

Marvin farmed in the rural Pleasant Grove Township and was employed by the Oliver-White Farm Equipment Company retiring with 30 years of service. Marvin enjoyed going to auctions , working on small machinery, welding, and gardening. He enjoyed sharing things he grew with his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed listening to Christian and country music. He will be remembered as the man who enjoyed smoking a pipe.

Living family members include his wife Darlyne of San Angelo, Texas: his children, Teresa Faith (Jeff) Bowen of Midway, Ga., David Arthur Vietor of Marble Rock, Constance Diane (King Walker) Vietor of San Angelo, Texas, Rachel Ann (Calvin) Steele Jr. of Harker Heights, Texas; six grandchidren; Katrina Marie Bowen, Andrea Nicole Bowen, James Arthur Bowen, Amber Dawn Walker, Samantha Darlyne Steele, and Alexander Dwayne Steele; two sisters, Evelyn Drenth of Racine, Minn., Maxine Vetter of Charles City; and one brother, Carlyle (Laura) Vietor of Norfolk, Neb.

Gloria Ann Holm Crumpton was born July 18, 1937, at Saint Paul, Minn., the daughter of Victor and Lorraine (Zimmerman) Holm. She graduated from the Saint Ansgar High School. On Nov. 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jim Crumpton at Toeterville. Gloria worked with her husband at the Salsbury Farm, then at Home Health for several years and then as secretary at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church for 15 years. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught confirmation and Sunday School and belonged to Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the Alter Guild. Gloria also worked with Meals on Wheels, was an avid reader and also liked to sew and cook. She will always be remembered for being a compassionate and concerned friend. Family was always a very important part of her life and she looked forward to being with them and spoiling the grandchildren. Gloria always enjoyed preparing those specialty dishes for each one of her family.

Living family members include four children and their families, Jon (Alicia) Crumpton of Tempe, Ariz., Val (Keith) Onken and Jamie of Charles City, Tracy (T.J.) Crumpton, Samantha and James of Cedar Rapids, and Mick (Brenda) Crumpton, Hannah and Noah of Manchester; eight brothers and sisters, Jackie (Al) Jacobs of Ellendale, Minn., Judy (Roger) Grimm of Elma, Dale (Vickie) Holm of Osage, Allen (Karen) Holm of Swaledale, Richard Holm of Charles City, Robert (Barb) Holm of Orchard, Don (Shirley) Holm of Charles City, and Diane (Tim) Francis of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Oct. 16, 1987; and a son, Brian Crumpton.

Elgie H. Wayne

CLARKSVILLE - Funeral services for Elgie H. Wayne, 68, 26835 130th Street, Clarksville, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the Hope Community Church, Bremer, with Pastor Nathan Frazee Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, and will continue at the church on Saturday one hour before services.Elgie Hays Wayne was born Sept. 3, 1937, at Fennimore, Wis., a son of Leon John and Edna May (Hays) Wayne, and died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at his home in rural Clarksville.


Marge Roberts

Marge Roberts, 76, of Floyd, was called home Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She previously resided at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco for the past nine years.

Funeral services for Marge Roberts will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd. Pastor Paul Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

 

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Marjorie Marion Mills was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Floyd County to Oren and Maurice (Marsten) Mills. She was the third of seven children. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Floyd High School in 1946. On May 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Don Roberts, at the Methodist Parsonage in Charles City. The couple spent their lives living in the Floyd area. Marjorie worked with the Dr. Mayfield Lab for almost 25 years and also worked with Smith Jewelry. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd. She sang in the choir and was a member of the church circle, and bible study group. Marge loved her Lord. She was also a member of the Floyd Card Club. Marge loved to shop and enjoyed clothes, jewelry and shoes. She spent time working on crossword puzzles, rearranging her home, and going to the movies. She especially enjoyed dancing and traveling.

Living relatives include one son, Galen (Deb) Roberts of Floyd, two daughters, Colleen (Alan) Aird, Charles City, and Judy (Patrick) Barrett, Floyd; five grandchildren, Zachary and Tyson Roberts, Aaron Aird and Angela Vanek, and Sara Paulus; one step-grandchild, Anne Nelson; two brothers, Wayne Mills, Osage, and Gary Mills, Charles City; three sisters, Thelma Sills, Charles City, Eleanor Waid, Floyd, and Shirley Krutsinger, Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don in 1989; one daughter, Caryl; and one sister Bette Noah.

Kristina Vierkant

Kristina Vierkant, 50, died on Sept. 29, 2005, at the Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls.

Funeral Services for Kristina Vierkant will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. Dennis Brock will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Kristina Kay Harris was born Dec. 12, 1954, to John Thomas and Lois Ann (Harnisch) Harris. She graduated from Nashua High School and attended Hamilton Business College. She was united in marriage to Greg Vierkant on Feb. 13, 1982, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashua. She worked for KMART and spent the last several years serving as general manager of the Super 8 Motel in Charles City. Kris and Greg were foster parents for 15 years. She also enjoyed serving as a girl scout leader, crocheting, Bible study, camping, fishing and travel.

Living relatives include her husband, Greg; three daughters: Jalissa, Sarah and Susan Vierkant; and one son, Jamie Vierkant, all living at home; her mother, Lois Harris of Charles City; one brother, Phil Harris, Charles City; one sister, Becky (Bill) Neal, Nashua; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother-in-law, David Gibson.

Leone Ellen Seelhammer

NEW HAMPTON - Leone Ellen Seelhammer, age 93, of New Hampton, died Tuesday Sept.27, 2005, at the New Hampton Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Washington.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday.
