Thoughts, condolences and stories may be e-mailed to the family on the www.fullertonfh.com website.

Andrew J. Christie and Noel L. Miller welcomed their beautiful daughter, Evelyn Celeste Miller into the world at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on August 22, 1999. She immediately stole their hearts and continued to delight them, as their only daughter, throughout the following five years.

"Evey," as she was lovingly nicknamed by her family and close friends, was a little girl who could "melt your heart" with her infectious smiles and giggles. She was a very intelligent kindergarten student at Washington Elementary School in Charles City and was excited to reveal to all that she would be entering first grade in the fall. Evelyn often professed that she was especially fond of reading and recess and playing with her friends at school.

Evelyn was a "sugar and spice" kind of girl. She loved playing with her Barbie dolls, My Little Pony and Disney Princesses. Evelyn treasured her fun time while pretending in her "dress up" clothes, dancing ("shaking her booty") to the tunes of "Funky Town" or "Shake, Shake, Shake," going swimming, riding her bike and collecting Polly Pocket dolls and Care Bears. Her favorite color was blue and her favorite book, that she read over and over was, "If You Give A Pig a Pancake."

Evelyn's parents claim that their daughter had a creative mind and spirited nature. She exhibited many pieces of her handwork in paintings, drawings and clay. Evelyn often challenged her family and friends to a good game of Candyland and Pretty, Pretty Princess. She was a great mother's helper in assisting with folding clothes and entertaining her three little brothers. When having the opportunity to purchase a special treat at the store, Evelyn would most likely choose gummi bears, a candy necklace, baby bottle pops, a ring pop or licorice, professing, "she didn't much like chocolate!"

Evelyn's dad revealed that he will always have wonderful memories of time spent with his daughter at his home as they together, cooked snacks and meals and spent time just fixing things around the garage. To further enhance Evelyn's blooming interests, he attached a ballet bar in her bedroom so that Evey could dress in her leotards and practice being a ballerina.

Evelyn will forever be cherished and sadly missed by her family and friends who shared in her short but full life.

She is survived by her parents, Andrew "Andy" and Lindsey Christie of Waterloo and Noel Miller and her fiance' Casey Frederiksen of Charles City; her three younger brothers, Gabriel and Damian Frederiksen of Charles City and Wesley Christie of Waterloo; her grandparents, Diane Miller of Charles City; Richard and Linda Christie of Des Moines; David and Janice Weston of Nashua; Dennis King of Charles City and Mark and Sandy Kuykendall of Floyd; her great-grandparents, Ada Day of Yreaka, Calif.; James and Betty Wright of Knoxville, Ten.; Donald and Rosie Carnagey of Collinsville, Okla. and Edna King of Marble Rock.

Evelyn will also be greatly missed by her great-great grandparents, Violet Woodall of Janesville and Ophelia Watts of Bartlesville, Okla.; her aunts and uncles and cousins, Alithya Runyan, Destiny, Boe and Luke, Irene Miller, Mark Miller, Dawn Miller, Autumn Miller, Steven Christie, Tina (Jeff) Spears and Marley Jane, Jeremiah Christie, Shane (Desiree') Carnagey, Zachary Weston, Niki (Lewis) Litzel and Alena and Brandi (Joe) Hoffmann and numerous other relatives and friends.

Ernest P. "Ernie" Hoppe

FLOYD - Ernest P. "Ernie" Hoppe, 93, of 901 Monroe St. in Floyd, died Thursday evening, July 14, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City with Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Interment and military graveside services provided by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Ernie's service on Wednesday.

Those wishing to extend memorials may direct them to the Ernest P. Hoppe Memorial Fund.

Thoughts, condolences and stories may be e-mailed to the family on the www.fullertonfh.com website.

Ernest Paul Hoppe was born November 19, 1911, in rural Floyd County. He was one of four children born to his parents, Emil and Anna (Horrmann) Hoppe. Ernie attended and graduated from Floyd High School.

Ernie was inducted into the United States Army on April 17, 1941, and served his country during W.W.II, achieving the rank of Sergeant. After honorably and faithfully serving his designated time, Ernie was formally discharged from his military duties on December 4, 1945.

With the exception of his military service, Ernie was a well-known and lifelong resident of Floyd. He was a self-employed carpenter and handyman and regarded by many in Floyd as, "the local lifeguard." He seemed to be present as a watchful eye when children swam in the Cedar River near his home. Ernie was content in living a life of simplicity. He was mostly seen in the summertime without shoes, preferring to be barefoot when tending to his errands or his many fruit trees, strawberry and raspberry beds, grape vines and vegetable gardens. His diet consisted of mostly the foods of his labor and he lived by his own personal motto, "Do As I Please!"

Ernie was always available to his family, neighbors and friends whenever there was a call for needed help. Several years ago, the families of Floyd, who thought a lot of Ernie, threw him a special birthday party! Highlighting the celebration was the gift of a new television set, which Ernie had previously never owned in his home.

Many years ago, Ernie dug a long and deep cave into a limestone hill on his property by hand. The cave stored his and many of his neighbor's fruits and vegetables, was a shelter from inclement weather and was completed with electricity. Ernie was proud of his cave and property and welcomed many tours.

In Ernie's earlier years, he helped build motorized air boats with his friends, especially with Ralph Brown. He also found joy in watching college basketball games on television. Ernie is described by his family as a man who was sometimes stubborn, yet very determined and friendly.

Ernie will be greatly missed by family and friends who have shared in his life.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Alton Hendrix of Charles City; his five nephews and nieces, Art Ernst of Charles City, Ray (Betty) Hendrix of Charles City, Virginia (Tony) Koeff of Janesville, Dr. James (Diane) Hendrix of Burlington, Iowa, and Carolyn (Bruce) Wight of Lincoln, Neb., and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Ernie in death are his parents, Emil and Anna Hoppe; his two sisters, Irma Ernst and Vera Hendrix; his brother, Lloyd Hoppe and his niece, Judy Ernst.
