Linda Maulsby

CLEAR LAKE - Linda D. Maulsby 56, of 1006 North 8th Street West died Friday September 30, 2005, at her home, after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 4, at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church 200 South Main Street, Charles City, with Reverend Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.Memorials may be directed to the Linda D. Maulsby Memorial Fund.

Linda Diane Tibbitts was born March 20, 1949, in Charles City the daughter of Melvin G. and Verda I. (Hennick) Tibbitts.

Linda graduated from Charles City High School in 1967. She was united in marriage to Tom F. Maulsby November 25, 1967, in Charles City; to this union two children were born; Kim and Amanda. Linda and Tom moved to Clear Lake in 1995. Linda received her x-ray tech certification and worked for Dr. Peter Vidal as a dental assistant.

Linda loved spending time with her family and friends, they were very special to her; especially spending time with her five grandchildren. She loved to attend their sporting events and dance recitals. She enjoyed shopping, reading, crocheting, and going to the movies. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City.

Linda is survived by her husband Tom Maulsby, of Clear Lake; daughters Kim (Kalen) Schlader, of Charles City, Amanda (Jim) Ewing, of Norwalk; grandchildren Alex, Makaila, Karli, and Noah Schlader, and Benjamin Ewing; brother Roger (Dee) Tibbitts; brother-in-law Mike (Janice) Maulsby; sister-in-law Pat (Jim) Stephenson; sister-in-law Tammy (Mark) Mowrer; brother-in-law Tom (Kris) Maulsby; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Melvin Tibbitts and Verda Cowan; step-father Sam Cowan; sisters Bonnie Randall, Patti Sickman; brothers Merlin Tibbitts, Murl Tibbitts; sister-in-law Marian Tibbitts, father-in-law Cliff Maulsby; mother-in-law Doris Maulsby; step-mother öin-law Sharon Maulsby; and sister-in-law Teri Gabriel.

David Hoeft, 67, of Charles City, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at his residence.

A funeral Mass for David Hoeft will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and the Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the Mass.David Charles Hoeft was born March 15, 1938, to Walter and Devora (Hobert) Hoeft in Charles City. He was raised and educated in the area, attending and graduating from Colwell High School. Following his schooling, he worked on a cattle farm in Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Army serving at Fort Bragg, N.C. as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Following his discharge, he farmed and began working for White Farm Equipment in assembly. David was united in marriage to Mary Burgart on April 27, 1968, at St. Boniface in Ionia. The couple made their home in rural Charles City. Following the closing of White Farm in 1993, he worked for Fort Dodge Animal Health before retiring in 2003. David was a past 4-H leader and member of the Floyd County Cattlemen, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association. He enjoyed showing cattle, and collecting and restoring Farmall toy tractors. He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Living relatives include his wife, Mary, Charles City; one daughter, Amy (Dave) Shannon, Webster City, three sons, Steve Hoeft and Jen Wiltse, Andrew (Kris) Hoeft, and Matt (Tina) Hoeft, all of Charles City; nine grandchildren, Morgan Connor and Trey Shannon, Cole, Austin, Zachery, Emma, Sophie, and Ashlyn Hoeft; father-in-law, Hubert "Hoop" Burgart. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ardis L. Lebrecht
ROCKFORD - Ardis L. Neale-Lebrecht, 77, of 4151 Emerson St. in Riverside, Calif., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Riverside Community Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct.14, at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. The family will greet relatives and friends prior to the service at the cemetery.

Emil Zimmerman, 79, of Charles City, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Emil Zimmerman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday where there will be Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Emil John Zimmerman was born July 30, 1926, in Floyd County, the son of Klaus and Mary (Rath) Zimmerman. He received his education from Floyd County schools. On May 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Eileen Paulus at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Emil farmed and was also employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company from 1945-1977. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Elks. Emil’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, coin collecting and growing the largest tomatoes in the neighborhood. He also had a passion for Oliver tractors and thoroughly enjoyed restoring them. The past few years they lived in Lansing where his social skills came into play when he would go to the ‘office’ for his morning ‘sippy.’ Emil always looked forward to the times he could spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Eileen Zimmerman, of Charles City; two daughters, Nancy (Glen ‘Pudge’) Springer, of Lansing, and Janet (Tom) Trainer, of Charles City; six grandchildren, Robin (Kevin) McGlynn, Wendi (Randy) Huck, Darren (Mary) Shave, Cory (Nicole) Trainer, Tod (Sheila) Trainer and Holly Trainer; 13 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Emma Mohring and Esther Meyne, both of Charles City, and Mary Ann (Larrie) Steenhard, of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Benny and Herman Zimmerman; and two sisters, Louise Anderson and Ella Hicok.

Aspen Faith Richards

NASHUA - Aspen Faith Richards, 10-day-old daughter of Greg and Rachel Richards of Nashua, died early Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of an irreparable heart condition.

Aspen was born on Sept. 30, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Aspen is survived by her parents, Greg and Rachel Richards, of Nashua; her big sister, Alannah Richards, of Nashua, her maternal grandparents, Duane and Cleone King, of Floyd, her paternal grandparents, Larry and Karen Richards, of Charles City, her maternal great-grandfather, Marreld King, of Elma; and her aunt, uncles and their families, Sarah (Rob) Schmidt, of Claremont, Minn., Dave (Samantha) Richards, of Owatonna, Minn., Daniel (Angela) King, of Connecticut.

The Richards family would like to extend and invitation to all friends and acquaintances to attend the Celebration of Life Services that will be held on Friday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Prairie Lakes Church, 1907 Viking Road, Cedar Falls. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, and also for an hour before services on Friday at the church. Steven K. ‘Tabes’ Parcher

ROCKFORD - Steven K. "Tabes" Parcher, 56, of 208 7th St. NE in Rockford, died suddenly Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-N.I. in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave. in Rockford. Interment will follow the service in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., in Rockford from 6-8 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church, one hour prior to Steven’s service on Thursday.

Robert Lytle

Robert Lytle, 67, of Charles City, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Robert Lytle will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Jan Tjaden will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. There will be a flag presentation at the graveside.

Robert Dean Lytle was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the son of Dale and Frances (Hughes) Lytle. He graduated from the Charles City High School. Robert served in the United States Navy for 12 years. On July 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Coe Marcy at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After his discharge they moved to Charles City where Robert worked as a custodian with the Charles City schools for 36 years, retiring in 1999 as the head custodian at Lincoln Elementary School. Robert was an outdoorsman and enjoyed doing yard work, tending his flowerbeds and camping.

Living family members include his wife, Coe Lytle, of Charles City; four children, George Lytle, of Charles City, Sandy Arispe, of Forest City, Lyneen (Raymond) Lytle of Garner, and Sara (David) Cook, of Bellevue, Neb.; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Alicia Arispe, Ashley Pettit, John Ricke and Stephana Marie Svehla; and a great-grandson, Garrison Cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Crawford.

Richard E. Ratka

NEW HAMPTON - Richard E. Ratka, 77, of New Hampton, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, also in Charles City. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the church.

Richard Eugene Ratka was born Feb. 23, 1928, at Lovilia, the son of Andrew and Mary (Rogan) Ratka. On April 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Muriel Grove at the Congregational UCC Church in New Hampton. The couple eventually settled in Charles City where he worked for White Farm Equipment for 28 years, retiring in 1990. After retirement the couple enjoyed traveling and attending their grandson’s sporting events. The couple moved to New Hampton in 1998.

Throughout the years, Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, tending to his flower gardens being outdoors and playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of the Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City where he served on the Church Council and was a member of the Men’s Club; past member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce in Charles City was chosen Boss of the Year in 1968; and was a member of the NRA.

Richard is survived by his wife Muriel, of New Hampton; a son, Richard E. (Lucy) Ratka, Jr., of Yukon, Okla..; a daughter, Anne (Dan) Heilman, of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandsons: Andrew Ratka, Aaron Ratka and Ryan Heilman; a sister, Irene VanNausdle, of Kirkland, Wash.; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Margaret "Cherokee" Barnes

HANLONTOWN - Margaret "Cherokee" Barnes, 77, of 406 Main St., Hanlontown, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, with Pastor Phil Does of Riverside Friends Church, Mason City and Pastor Larry Richards II officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Charles City. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, and then one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorials go to the Margaret Barnes Memorial Fund.

Margaret was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Brookville, Penn., the daughter of Arthur and Ida Mae (O'Connor) Beer.

Margaret married Kenneth Orcutt and they lived in Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death. She married Keith Barnes Feb. 8, 1964, in Youngsville, Penn. She attended florist design school, took a writing course and took five years of Bible School.

She was involved in prison ministry and adopted Navy ships during Desert Storm for prayer and sending them goodies.

She loved to do oil paintings, flower gardening and sending KCMR Vol. greeting cards. She was a member of Riverside Friends Church, Mason City.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Keith Barnes, of Hanlontown; two sons, James Orcutt and his wife, Rebecca, of Charles City; Arthur Orcutt and his wife, Lynn, of Plantation, Fla.; three daughters: Kathleen Richards and her husband, Larry, of Somerset, Penn., Carolyn Reynolds, of Marble Rock, and Ferne Orlando and her husband, Brian, of Bradenton, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Marion Miles and her husband, Ron, of Erie, Penn. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Francis Eugene Beer, two infant brothers and her first husband, Kenneth Orcutt.

Lisa Mohring, 21, and Addison Mae Wilharm, 14 months, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at their home.

Lisa Marie Mohring was born June 4, 1984, in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Bryan Mohring and Christine Catchpool. She graduated from the Nashua Plainfield High School in 2002. Lisa worked at Eastside Mini Mart in Charles City.

Addison Mae Wilharm was born Aug. 7, 2004 in Charles City, the daughter of Shane Wilharm and Lisa Mohring.

Survivors include Shane Wilharm, of Clarksville, Lonny “Sam” and Glenda Wilharm, of Clarksville, Chris Catchpool, of Charles City, Jeff Koenigsfeld, of Nashua, Jim and Della Jordan, of Plainfield, Cleora Jordan, of Frederika, Judy Catchpool, of Nashua, Melvin and Faye Mohring, of Plainfield, Stephen and Mary Koenigsfeld, of Marble Rock, Tami Wilharm, of Clarksville, Matt Mohring and Kayla Ryan, of Charles City, Daniel and Emily Mohring, of Charles City, Stephanie Koenigsfeld and Matt Dose, of Ames, and Bryan and Dawn Mohring, of Nashua.

They were preceded in death by Lisa’s maternal grandfather, Vernon Catchpool, and Addy’s paternal great-grandparents, Dorlan and Regina Wilharm.

Scott Druehl, 33, of Charles City, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Scott Allen Druehl was born March 9, 1972, in Charles City, the son of Gary and Mary (Nehls) Druehl. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1990 and completed his paramedic training in 1997. Scott worked with emergency medical services in Charles City, Clarinda and Des Moines. He also was a volunteer firefighter with the Charles City Fire Department since 1999. On Feb. 14, 1997, he was united in marriage to Julie Schaefer at Charles City. While Scott’s interests included hunting, fishing and drag racing, his life centered on providing emergency medical care.

Living family members include his wife, Julie Druehl, of Charles City; three children: Michael, Samantha and Leo, all at home; parents, Gary and Mary Druehl, of Charles City; paternal grandmother, Margaret Druehl, of Charles City; maternal grandfather, Clair Nehls, of Charles City; and maternal great grandmother, Gertrude Rice, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward Druehl; maternal grandmother, Donna Nehls; paternal great grandparents, Fred and Mabel Symonds; and maternal great grandfather, Fred Simerson.

Gary Lee Mahlstedt

Gary Lee Mahlstedt, age 59, of 1625 South Massachusetts, died Oct. 16, 2005. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave. with Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held today, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Gary L. Mahlstedt Memorial Fund.

Gary L. Mahlstedt was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Cedar Falls, the son of Wendell and Jeanette (Carstensen) Mahlstedt. He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1964, he then entered the Air Force, serving for two years. He attended Technical School for automotives. He worked at John Deere Implement and White Farm Implement. He was currently working as an operator for Heartland Asphalt Company. He was an active member of A.A.. Gary enjoyed camping, NASCAR, spending time with family and grandkids, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Karen; mother, Jeanette Mahlstedt; son; Terry and wife Kris Mahlstedt, daughter, Toni Trujello and husband Ed, Tammy Hello and husband Mitch; step-sons, Jeff and wife Chris King, Mike King; honorary daughter, Michelle Winters and husband Jeremy; grandchildren and honorary grandchildren: Nathan, Stina, Chris, Shay, Lydia, Brett, Nick, Samantha, Callie, Tyler, Cody, Rumy, Little Eddy, Donovan, Lane, Mackenzie, Chris, Cassandra, Colton and Raynee; sisters, Carol Peters and Karen Good and husband, Larry.

He is preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Robert and Scott.


Sigmund ‘Sig’ Szalkowski

NASHUA - Sigmund ‘Sig’ Szalkowski, 91, of Nashua and Charles City, formerly of Chicago passed away Oct. 17, 2005 at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Leo August ‘Curly’ Steere

GREENE - Funeral services for Leo August Steere, 92, of 17371 140th Street, Greene, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene where there will be a public Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Saturday.

Leo August Steere was born, December 30, 1912, in Coldwater Township, Butler Co. A son of Wilhelm and Sophia (Drogemuller) Steere, and died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the Liebe Care Center in Greene where he had been a resident since January of 2001.

He received his education in the rural Coldwater Township Schools. On February 12, 1939, he was united in marriage to Lavon Reed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. To this union were blessed five children.

‘Curly,’ as he was affectionately called by family and friends, farmed in the Greene area his entire life. In his early years he farmed with horses, and as the years passed he continued to have an interest in them. He also enjoyed bird watching, fishing and gardening..

Leo was preceded in death by his wife Lavon (1999), two sons: Jerry Steere (1997), Leon Steere (1990); his parents; two sisters: his twin, Leona Steere and Dora Klunder; three brothers: John Steere, William Steere Jr. and Henry Steere.

Helen M. Miller, 82, of 807 5th St., Charles City, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2005, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, where she was a resident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with Rev. David Werges and Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. Helen Mae Miller was born Dec. 18, 1908, in Charles City to Henry C. and Mary M. (Vogt) Horn and was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns. Helen was the second child and second daughter of seven children born to her parents.

During Helen’s teen years, she was involved in several church plays and assisted her father in his general store and bakery. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1926.

While attending her youth Luther-league at her church, Helen met the love of her life, Victor A. Miller. Helen and Victor were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical Church on Feb. 14, 1932, and the couple began working together taking care of their farming operation. They became the proud parents of three sons.

Helen was active within her community as well as tending to the duties associated with a raising her family. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, a former officer in the Lutheran Women’s Club, a member of the Mary Circle at St. Johns, the Charles City Women’s Club, the Double Dozen Card Club, a volunteer with the Red Cross, a member of the Do Day Club at her church (making quilts) and assisting at Comprehensive Systems-Treasure Chest.

All who knew Helen, recall her great cooking and baking abilities. The specialties mentioned were her anise Christmas cookies, chocolate chip cookies, twice baked potatoes and her homemade cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed sewing, canning and freezing her garden produce, creating craft items and playing scrabble, canasta or 500. She centered her life around her family and church and could often be seen in her garden, strawberry beds or assisting in the kitchen at church when events needed her help. Holidays were special to Helen as she treasured the time with her family and the opportunity to cook and bake for them. She was an even-tempered woman who always kept her family’s best interests in mind.

Those left to cherish Helen’s memory are her sons, Frederick (Patricia) Miller of Charles City, Martin (Emily) Miller, of Rudd and Dale (Sandra) Miller, of Charles City; her two sisters, Hazel Lynch, of Charles City and Iva Volbrecht, of Wichita, Kan., and her brother, Harold Horn, of Grinnell. She will also be dearly missed by her eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Her husband, Victor A. Miller precedes Helen in death, as well as, her parents, Henry and Mary Horn, her brother, Howard Horn and her two sisters, Lillian Mark and Ida Mrotzek.

Larry Kraninger

Larry Kraninger, 55, of New Haven, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at his home.

Funeral Services for Larry Kraninger will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Gale Richards officiating. Inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, at a later date.Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.

Larry H. Kraninger was born March 16, 1950, in Charles City, the son of Roy and Ila (Voelschow) Kraninger. He was raised and educated in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School and Hamilton Business College. He was united in marriage to Doris Leininger on Oct. 24, 1971. The couple later divorced. Larry was employed by White Farm and worked in supervisory positions for several companies and also did farm work. He was a self-employed interior painter prior to his illness. On July 13, 2003, he was united in marriage to Carla M. Gilliland in Melcher. The couple made their home in Osage. Larry was a member of the Iowa State Coonhunters Association. He enjoyed attending the Hillbilly Gun and Dog Auction in Devonia, collecting coins and football cards. He loved playing games on Pogo and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He held a passion for coonhunting and showing his coondogs in area and state competitions. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandkids of which he was extremely proud.

Living relatives include his wife Carla, of Osage; mother Ila Elliott, Charles City; daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Owens, of Newton; son, Jeremy Kraninger, of Des Moines; stepson, Charles Olson, of Golden Valley, Ariz.; stepdaughter Kathryn Kraninger, of New Haven; grandson Jordon; granddaughter Shielow; step-granddaughter Cassie; brothers, Ron ( Betty) of Nora Springs, Stan, of Wilmont, S.D., Garry (Connie), of Independence; and sister Peg, of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Roy; Uncle Joe; and Aunts Dorothy and Virginia.

Jackie Junior Adams

MASON CITY - Jackie Junior Adams, 76, of 1212 S. Massachusetts Ave., Mason City, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE, Mason City, with Reverend Jon Seda officiating.

Following the mass a reception and sharing of memories will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church fellowship hall, 714 North Adams, Mason City. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greene, Iowa with military honors by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday with a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at the chapel. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel.

Jackie Junior Adams was born on June 9, 1929, in Charles City, the son of John and Estelle (Wilson) Adams. He attended Rockford School system, graduating in the class of 1948. While in high school he was a three time all conference football player. He was inducted into the U.S. Marines Corp. in 1952 and served during the Korean War stateside until his honorable discharge in 1954.

He was united in marriage to Audrey Mae Skillen in 1954. She preceded him in death on September 12, 1996.

Jackie started working for Deckers/Armour's Meat Packing in 1948 until his retirement in 1983. He also worked at Anthony's Clothing in Mason City from 1984 until its closing.

He enjoyed Mercy Mixers bowling, going to auctions, reading and watching westerns, but his great love and enjoyment was his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Craig (Esther) Adams of Apple Valley, Minn., Valerie (Mike) Thomas of Northwood, Brad (Lori) Adams of Hanlontown, Lilyann Adams of Mason City, Clayton (Christy) Adams of Mason City, Laurie Adams and boy friend Gabe Juarez of Mason City, and John (Kathy) Adams of Rockford; grandchildren, David Adams, Alisa Rathbone, Lindsey Rathbone, Bobbie Adams, Matthew Adams, Whitney Adams, Jessica Adams, Nicholas Adams, Jared Adams, Calvin Adams, Ben Adams, Amber Adams and Dylan Adams; great-grandchildren, Chandler Rathbone, McKayla Rathbone, Jacob Reupke, and Tanner Reupke; sister, Delores Grady of Rockford, Iowa, Sister-in-law, Kathleen Sinram, Harriet Skillen, Sandy Dugan, and Paulette Skillen; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Dr. John W. Mitchell

CENTERVILLE, Ohio - Dr. John W. Mitchell, Centerville, Ohio, died Saturday Oct. 15, 2005. He was born in Charles City on Nov. 17, 1912, the son of George H. and Emily Mitchell.

He is survived by his son David F. Mitchell, M.D., of Centerville, Ohio, and three grandchildren.

Dr. Mitchell devoted his life to the profession of education specializing in audio visual and educational media education. He received his doctorate from Indiana University. He ended his career at Kent State University as professor of audio visual education and director of audio visual services. In 1980, Kent State University honored Dr. Mitchell with the Distinguished Teaching Award. The Ohio and National Educational Media Associations presented him with the Edgar Dale Award for his state and national leadership.

There will be no calling hours. The remains will be cremated and burial will be in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to Portage Land Association for Conservation and Education, PO Box 3286, Kent, OH 44240.

CORWITH - Edna "Vi" (Johnson) Babcock, age 66 of Corwith, formerly of Nashua, died Sunday evening Oct. 23, 2005, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua.

Sallee Anne Kincannon

Sallee Anne Kincannon, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, Oct.19, 2005 near her home in Brownsville, Calif.

A combined memorial service with her husband Bryon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City. Officiating will be a dear friend, Al Williams, from the Jehovah Witness Hall. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.Sallee was born Nov. 21, 1961, in Vinton, the daughter of Dean and Wilma "King" Hoefle. Sallee graduated from Vinton High School in 1979. Sallee married Bryon Kincannon Jan. 10, 1981. Sallee enjoyed and was talented musically and artistically. She especially enjoyed Jehovah’s creation: trees, streams, rocks, clouds, sunsets, as well as little creatures, her favorite being her dog Razzle. Sallee had a big love for family get-togethers and parties. She served Jehovah with her husband throughout their marriage.

After many years in Charles City, Sallee and Bryon made Brownsville, Calif., their home. They enjoyed taking long drives through the mountains and caring for their dog, Razzle.

Sallee and Bryon were members of the Brownsville, Calif., Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by her mother, Wilma (Boots) Hoefle, of MiWuk Village, Calif.; four siblings: Conni Zavala of Modesto, Calif., Larry (JoAnne) Hoefle of Vinton, Garry (Diane) Hoefle of Cedar Falls, and John (Sherri) Hoefle of MiWuk Village, Calif.; as well as nine nieces, seven nephews and three great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, paternal and maternal grandparents.


Bryon Keith Kincannon

Bryon Keith Kincannon, formerly of Charles City, of 9060 Seven Springs Trail, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 near his home in Brownsville, Calif.

A combined memorial service with his wife Sallee will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City. Officiating will be a dear friend, Al Williams, from the Jehovah Witness Hall. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bryon was born June 16, 1960, in Boscobel, Wis., the son of Raymond and Vonda "Edge" Kincannon. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1978. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1978. Bryon married Sallee Hoefle in January of 1981 and started his own janitorial business in Charles City. Bryon had a love for aviation, its mechanics and how-to, drafting, astronomy, nature walks to be and see all of God’s creatures, traveling to special places that included Lake Tahoe and Panama City, Fla., for long walks on the beach with his wife, and photography. Bryon was self-taught on the computer and was very smart. He was fun loving, kind to others and gentle in personality. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

After many years in Charles City, Bryon and Sallee made Brownsville, Calif., their home. They enjoyed taking long drives through the mountains and caring for their dog, Razzle.

Bryon and Sallee were members of the Brownsville, Calif., Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Bryon is survived by his parents, Ray and Vonda Kincannon of Minneapolis, Minn.; four siblings: Diane (Kurt) Baumgartner of Austin, Minn., Steve (Julie) Kincannon of Charles City; Kristine (Dan) Jorgenson of Austin, Minn., and Kari Allen of Medford, Minn.; as well as five nieces, four nephews and two great nieces. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Rose Koenigsfeld

DES MOINES - Rose Marie Koenigsfeld, 59, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct.25, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. The Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.

A visitation will be held after 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., and a Vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

 

Rose was born on Aug. 5, 1946 in Sioux City to Vitalis and Estella Walsh. She was raised in Gilmore City. As a young woman, Rose moved to Des Moines, where she married her lifelong partner, Dennis Koenigsfeld. She spent her many years in Des Moines, employed first at Meredith Corporation, than as a secretary at Saint Theresa School and later at Principal Financial.

Rose always had a book nearby and was an avid reader. She found great joy and comfort in books. Rose organized many family vacations and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, including a recent Alaskan cruise. Rose never missed an opportunity to meet new people and cherish her family and friends. She truly valued old friends and welcomed new to her heart. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Rose is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis Koenigsfeld of Des Moines; children: Jennifer Vemmer and her husband, Scott, of St. Louis, Mo., and Justin Koenigsfeld and his wife, Marie, of West Des Moines; four grandchildren: Nathanial and Kyra Vemmer, and Anya and Natalie Koenigsfeld; and a large extended family. She has left many dear friends and people whose lives she made a bit more joyful just for being herself.

Raphael J. Rottinghaus

NORA SPRINGS - Raphael J. Rottinghaus, 84, of 1064 Balsam Ave., Nora Springs, died Tuesday, Oct.25, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. SE, Mason City, with Reverend Harry H. Koelker officiating. Burial will be at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, with full military rites being conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post #449.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, with a Rosary at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.

Memorials may be directed to the Nora Springs Catholic Community Center.

Raphael Jacob Rottinghaus was born on Jan. 13, 1921, in Seneca, Kan., the son of Jacob and Marie (Lorson) Rottinghaus. Raphael attended a country schoolhouse near Cartersville. Raphael entered into the United States Marine Corps on July 7, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Dec.7, 1945. While serving in the USMC as a corporal, Raphael was wounded in action in September 1944 and received two Purple Heart Medals. He was united in marriage to Madelyn Engels on June 10, 1947, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Rockford. They moved to their present farm in Nora Springs in 1951, where Raphael farmed, well after his retirement.

Raphael enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards, working with honeybees, and making wine.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Nora Springs American Legion, and the Osage V.F.W.

Left to cherish his memory are; wife; Madelyn Rottinghaus, Nora Springs; seven children, Diane (John) Fishering, Normal, Illinois; Dan (Judy) Rottinghaus, Nashua; John (LuAnn) Rottinghaus, Nora Springs; Mike (Denise) Rottinghaus, Nora Springs; Joan (Gary) Linahon, Ames; David (Cheryl) Rottinghaus, Nora Springs; and Chris (Ed) Masters, Clear Lake; eighteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Juanita Engels, Ellen Geheb, Patty Garnier, Anna Marie Suppes, and Beatrice "Betty" Suppes; two brothers, Henry "Bud" Rottinghaus and Richard "Dick" Rottinghaus; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Marie Rottinghaus; two sisters, Kathleen Knipp and Sister Erma Rottinghaus; and one brother, Robert Rottinghaus.

Russell was a life-long resident of Charles City. He worked various jobs throughout his life and was most recently with Richards’ Motors working in the parts department and detailing cars. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge, both in Charles City. Russell most enjoyed in life fishing at his cabin in Minnesota.

Those left to cherish Russell’s memory are his mother, Tena Reckner of Charles City; sister-in-law, Judy Reckner of Westerville, Ohio; a niece, Marilee Hepp; two nephews: Mark Reckner and Mike Reckner; six great nephews: Steven, Matthew, Bradley, David, Dan and Jason; and a special friend, Marilyn Bradley of Charles City.

His father, Benjamin Reckner precedes Russell in death, as well as, his brother, Donald Reckner.

Ronald A. Sheffner

Ronald A. Sheffner, 64, of 711 Second Ave. in Floyd, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 26, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of a sudden illness.

Sallee and Bryon Kincannon

Sallee Anne Kincannon and Bryon Keith Kincannon, formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 near their home in Brownsville, Calif.

A combined memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Shirley Holzer

Shirley Mary Holzer, age 78 of New Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday Oct. 30, at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary’s Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt officiating. The pall will be placed by Shirley's four children. Lector for the service is Brian Parks. The offertory gifts will be presented by Shirley's five grandchildren. Eucharistic ministers will be Willie Glaser and Sharon McDowell.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City, with Kenneth Holzer, David Holzer, Kenneth Zeien, Rodney Zubrod, Tom Schatz, Cheryl Reusche and Kenny Zubrod as casketbearers. Car drivers for the family are Gene Schultz, Vern Laures and Dick Schilling.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 6 p.m. Scripture Service and video tribute. Shirley was born March 16, 1927, in New Hampton, the daughter of John and Margaret (Gebel) Zubrod. She attended, and graduated in 1944, from St. Mary’s Catholic School in North Washington. She also attended beauty school in Des Moines and then worked as a beautician in Charles City and Waverly.

On June 17, 1950, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Shirley married Melbert Holzer. The couple initially worked in Charles City and then moved to Waverly where she worked as a beautician. Swede and Shirley moved to New Hampton in 1964, where they raised their family. Shirley had worked at the former Rogers Famous Foods, Fliger Bakery and Liddles SuperValue Bakery. Her beloved Swede died April 15, 2005. She had recently moved into the Kensington Place Apartments in New Hampton.

Shirley loved flowers, gardening, baking, playing cards and games with her family and friends and crocheting. The memory of Shirley will be lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her two sons; Steven (Susan) Holzer of Springfield, Ill., and James Holzer of Naperville, Ill.; Two daughters; Karla (Jim) Parks of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Karen (Stephen) McKibbin of Pompano Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren: Jessica Musta, Brian Parks, Kristin Holzer, Megan Holzer and Stephanie Hawkins; three brothers: Veryl (Alice) Zubrod of Cresco, Donald (Deanna) Zubrod of Cleghorn, and Reynold Zubrod of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters: Anna Marie Marvin of Nashua, Lorraine Schmitt of Westgate, and Dolores Schatz of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Melbert “Swede” on April 15, 2005.


Laura Frascht

GREENE - Laura Frascht, 98, of Greene, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Octo. 27, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, where there will be a Rosary Service conducted by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 7 p.m. followed by a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church one hour before services.

Laura Josephine Osier was born on the family farm near Oakwood, Floyd County, a daughter of George Edward and Mary Catherine (Katcher) Osier. She received her education in the Floyd County Rural Schools. As a young lady, she worked for Dr. McQuillon in Charles City. Laura was united in marriage to Leo Mattias Frascht on Sept. 30, 1925, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. To this union were blessed 10 children. She and her husband farmed in Rural Floyd Co. until 1964 when they moved to Greene. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Lucy’s Circle and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Laura enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She created many lovely hand knitted or crocheted items over the years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who devoted much of her life in service to her family.

Living family members include her children: Louise (Luverne) Wagner of Osage, Andy Frascht,and Richard (Sharon) Frascht all of Marble Rock, Earl (Joan) Frascht of Greene, Carl Frascht of Council Bluffs, Anne Frascht of Nora Springs, Carol Schuknecht of Palm Desert, Calif., Paul (Karen) Frascht of Grinnel. She is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren, and 23 great great-grandchildren. One sister, Catherine Rex of Clovis, Calif., and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Osier of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo on August 10, 1980, two daughters: Florence and Helen; three sons-in-law: Robert Crabtree, Roger Schuknecht and Thomas Roosa; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Frascht; three grandsons: Gary Crabtree, Steven Crabtree, and Wade Roosa.; one great grand son, Anthony Rilatos;two brothers: Donald Osier, and Gilbert Osier; five sisters: Mabel Koenigsfeld, Elizabeth Frascht, Magdaline Popes, Mildred Koenigsfeld, and Margaret Gabel.

Sandra Jean Koresh

FLOYD - Sandra Jean (Lenzendorf) Koresh of Floyd, Iowa, died at home on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church, Eastman, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery, Eastman, Wis. Friends may call at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, on Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends can also call at the Salem United Methodist Church, Eastman, Wis., on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established in memory of Sandy.Sandy was born June 26, 1954 in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Violet (Kramer) Lenzendorf. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1972. She married Richard Koresh on February 24, 1973 in Eastman, Wis. They made their home in Floyd, Iowa for 31 years. Sandy worked for Pamida Department Store in Charles City, Iowa for 22 years, before owning her own cleaning business for the last six years. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church, Charles City, Iowa, and was a life-long member of Salem United Methodist Church, Eastman, Wis. Sandy's faith was evident in her daily life and expressed in her care of those around her.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, Floyd, Iowa; four children, Troy (Lori) Koresh, Charles City, Iowa, Amy (Tim) Burkhardt, Floyd, Matthew and Nathan Koresh, at home; four grandchildren, Andrew and Dylan Koresh, Riley and Carter Burkhardt; mother, Violet Lenzendorf, Eastman, Wis.; seven siblings, Dennis (Penny) Lenzendorf, Eastman, Wis., Phyllis (Vidal) Rodriguez, Morrisonville, Wis., Cheryl (Greg) Schopf, Fennimore, Wis., Robin (Shelly) Lenzendorf, Eastman, Wis., Jeff (Brenda) Lenzendorf, Eastman, Wis., Renee Lenzendorf (Tim Myers), Prairie du Chien, Wis., Roxanne (Chip) Skemp, Prairie du Chien, Wis., and sister-in-law, Peggy Lenzendorf of DeForest, Wis.; 34 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews; mother and father-in-law Arlene and John Koresh of Prairie du Chien.

Sandra was proceeded in death by her father, Robert and brother, Gary Lenzendorf. Sandra maintained a loving home for her family, and took great pride in it with all her beautiful flowers, keepsakes, knickknacks, family pictures, and holiday decorations. Sandy deeply loved her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She lived a life of caring for family and friends, and loved the simple joys of family gatherings and celebrations. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in Charles City and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., Hospice staff, ministers, and the communities of Floyd and Eastman, Wis. who cared for Sandy these past months.

Ronald A. Sheffner

Ronald A. Sheffner, 64, of 711 2nd Ave., Floyd, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 26, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., in Charles City, with Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will take place in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Ronald Altman Sheffner was born Nov. 2, 1940, in Charles City to Walter J. and Louise M. (Janssen) Sheffner. He grew up in Bassett, and attended school in the Ionia School system. Ronald moved to Floyd in 1960. On Sept. 18, 1960, Ronald was united in marriage to Janet K. Bahlman in Kensett. Ronald was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country honorably and faithfully, during the Vietnam conflict. He was employed as a heat treat operator with White Farm in Charles City for 24 years and he also worked for Armour in Mason City for 10 years as a scale man, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #0174, both in Charles City. He was a volunteer fireman in Floyd from which he retired. He was an active council member in Floyd. Ronald enjoyed gardening, trips to the coffee shop, his dog "Spud," visiting with people and treasured spending time with his family. Ronald took great pleasure and pride in providing for his family. He will be best remembered by his family as being strong, courageous, honest, hardworking and having a wonderful and unique sense of humor.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Ronald’s life are his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Janet K. Sheffner of Floyd; his son, Christopher R. Sheffner of Russellville, Ark.; his daughter, Kelly J. Eggers of Dover, Ark.; four grandchildren: Steve and Melissa Sheffner and Jennifer and Nicole Eggers; four great grandchildren: Cadence and Kale Pack and Maia Sheffner and Camden Bozich; one sister, Jean Ann (Martin) Berding of Charles City; three brothers: Raymond Sheffner of Charles City, James (Ruth) Sheffner of Fredericksburg, and Bert (Sandi) Sheffner of Charles City; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Bahlman of Floyd; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy (Val) Fisher of Dover, Ark.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ronald in death are his parents; sister, Betty Jean Mason; two brothers, Roger and Tom Sheffner; and his son-in-law, Ed Eggers.

Larry Sullivan

MASON CITY - Larry Sullivan of Mason City went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. There will be a private service for family members only.

 

Larry will always be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit, for the kindness he showed to others, as well as his willingness to help anyone in need. Larry loved his family, friends, riding his motorcycle and working on the many hobbies he loved as health permitted. His pets, Gizmo and Missy, brought so much joy to his life. We were truly blessed to have him with us for the time that God permitted.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Anita; three sons from a previous marriage: Shawn (Angie) and grandchildren Cody and Brian, Jeff and grandchildren Ashlee and Alexcia, and Bill; two step-children he loved as his own, Ray and his fiancee, Jeania, and Ileen (Rick); and three grandchildren: Charley (great-grandchild Taylor), Raynita and Milagro; his mother Ardell; sisters Karen Uker (nieces Patty, Sandy, Cheryl and nephews Darin and Jerry), Gloria (Danny) Wilson (nephews Brian and Danny Jr.), Donna (Curt) Hammerberg, Debbie and Becky Sullivan; one brother Steve (Bonita) (nephews Zach and Tyler and niece Sheena); sister-in-law Lorraine Dotson (niece Tabby and nephews Charles and John).

He was preceded in death by his son Charles; his father Lee; and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Garland "Gar" Ceradsky

 

Garland "Gar" Ceradsky, the son of William M. and Hulda C. (Wilkinson) Ceradsky, was born April 28, 1916 in Deerfield, Mo. and died Thursday evening, Oct. 27, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, attaining the age of 89. Garland was the youngest of five children born to his parents.

Garland’s life and funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 1 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City with Rev. Margaret M. Hutchens officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City that same day at 1:30 p.m. with military respects provided by the Mason City Memorial Association. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Mason City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Garland’s service. Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the Garland Ceradsky Memorial Fund.

Garland Ceradsky was raised in Mt. Moriah, Mo.and graduated in the class of 1934 from Mt. Moriah High School. For the next few years, "Gar," as he was fondly known by his family and friends, assisted area farmers as a hired hand.

Garland was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 4, 1941 in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. and served his country during WWII. He sustained a serious injury while performing his duties in Attu, Alaska in May of 1943. In November of that same year, Garland returned to the main United States. He was honorably and faithfully discharged from his military duties on Oct.10, 1945 from Ft. Benning, Ga., earning a Purple Heart.

Upon returning from the service, Garland attended refrigeration school in Kansas City. He was employed at Maytag in Newton for a short time then in 1948, accepted a position at Borden Ice Cream in Mason City.

Gar met his future wife, Ernestine Norene Morris in Mason City and the couple was united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Aug. 25, 1951. Gar and Ernie became the proud parents of a daughter and two sons and together enjoyed traveling and cheering for the local high school softball teams. In 1959, Garland began his own business in Charles City known as Garland’s Refrigeration and continued to maintain his business until he retired in 1992.

Gar was a 40 year charter member and past president of the Refrigeration Service and Engineer Society, Chapter #08142 . He was also a member and Decon at the First Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ in Charles City, a member of the Moose Lodge #1011 in Charles City, where he formerly served as a past governor and a member of the American Legion in Osage. Some of his interests included pheasant and duck hunting in his earlier years with his son, DeWayne, going on vacations with the Heritage Club, coffee drinking and visiting with his friends and spending quiet time with his wife, Ernie.

Gar will be dearly missed by all who have shared in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Ceradsky of Charles City; his two sons, DeWayne (Nancy) Ceradsky of Waterloo and Kenneth (Shirley) of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Garland in death are his parents, William and Hulda Ceradsky; his daughter, Nola Marie Shorey in November of 1968; his two sisters, Ruby Williams and Helen Evins and his two brothers, Ivan and Richie Ceradsky.
