M. Schoof, age 83 of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone,
entered into rest on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at the Eastern Star
Masonic Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday,
September 28, 2005 at the Augustana Lutheran Church of Boone with burial
to follow at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, in the Harlington Cemetery in
Waverly, Iowa with Rev. Daniel W. Solomon officiating. Visitation will
be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Schroeder - Walter Funeral
Home, Fifth & Story Streets of Boone from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Family
will be present to greet friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening
from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., visitation will continue on Wednesday at
the church from 8:30 A.M. to the time of service at 10:00 A.M. Memorials
may be given to the Iowa Hospice, 5650 N.W. Johnston Dr. Suite E,
Johnston, Iowa 50131 or the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Verna was born on
March 19, 1922 in Westgate, Iowa to William and Matilda (Bartels) Buhrow.
She graduated from Waverly High School in 1939. After Verna graduated
from high school she started working with Northwestern Bell Telephone
Company in Waverly, Iowa. She then worked for Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company in Santa Barbara, California, and later at Paris
Island Telephone Company at Paris Island, South Carolina. Verna was
married to Donald Beebe in 1945 in Waverly, Iowa. Following his death in
1947, Verna married Donald D. Schoof at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Waverly, Iowa on November 28, 1948. Donald and Verna lived in Waverly
until 1964 when they moved to Boone. After she moved to Boone Verna
worked for the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. Verna was a member of the
Augustana Lutheran Church of Boone, 50-year member of the Eastern Star
No.353 of Waverly, American Legion Auxiliary of Boone and a lifetime
member of the Boone County Historical Society. She enjoyed playing
cards, bridge and 500. She is preceded in death by her parents; two
brothers, Raymond and Lloyd; first husband, Donald Beebe; grandson, Jeff
Backer; great-granddaughter, Nichole Backer; granddaughter-in-law, Debby
Backer; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Meyer and F.C. Grawe. Verna is
survived by her husband, Donald D. Schoof of Boone, Iowa; daughter,
Rebecca Backer and her husband Charles of Clarksville, Iowa; daughter,
Judith Schoof of Clear Lake, Iowa; daughter, Katherine Majors of Boone,
Iowa; son, John Schoof and his wife Pat of San Francisco, California;
daughter, Lynn Lauer and her husband Michael of West Union, Iowa; 5
grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Meyer of Waverly,
Iowa; sister, Ruth Grawe of Waverly, Iowa; sister, Helen Platte and her
husband Harlan of Waverly, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews and other

Kenneth A. Fods

Kenneth A. Fods, 56 year old rural Checotah resident, passed away on
Thursday, September 15, 2005 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born on
February 6, 1949, in Charles City, Iowa, to Kenneth I. and Charlotte (Runyan)
Fods. He graduated from the Clarksville High School, in Iowa. After
graduation, he spent a short time in the United States Navy and moved to
California. Kenneth made his home there until he moved to the Checotah
area. He had worked as a carpenter. Preceding him in death were his
parents and wife. Survivors include two half brothers, James Pierce of
Denair, California, and Norman Pierce of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a sister
Karen Mahlstedt from Mason City, Iowa; a young man Kenneth had raised,
Patrick Smith, of Rio Nido, California; and a host of other relatives
and friends. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, September 20,
2005, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Checotah, Oklahoma with Rev. Tim Whisenhunt
officiating. Hampton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Diletta Buseman Diletta Buseman, age 65, of Aplington, Iowa, was born
July 23, 1940, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Louie and Viola
“Tiny” Ludemann Ulfers. She graduated from Aplington High School in
1958, then attended Ellsworth College and Iowa State Teacher’s College.
Diletta was united in marriage with Duane A. Buseman on August 9, 1963,
in the Bethel Reformed Church. She started to teach English in 1960 at
the Bristow Middle School. She left teaching in 1968 when her son, Brian
was born. Diletta worked as a substitute teacher in the Parkersburg and
Aplington school systems. She was a clerk for Wessels Auction in
Aplington, served on the Aplington ambulance crew, the Aplington Library
Board and did bookkeeping for the North Court Apartments in Aplington.
Diletta was a member of Bethel Reformed Church. She had served her
church community as a Sunday School Teacher, Catechism teacher, Sunday
School Superintendent for 23 years, sang in the choir, and was the
cemetery clerk, a member of the Ladies Circle and the Bethel sewing
group. She had served on the Butler County Compensation Board and the
Maple Manor Advocacy Board. Diletta had been a member of a state
basketball tournament team in high school. She was an avid sports fan,
who enjoyed watching her family coach and participate in sporting
events. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed tailgating.
Diletta loved to spend time mowing the lawn. Most of all, she loved her
family and the time she spent with them. Diletta died Monday, September
19, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, from
complications of cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents; Louie
and Viola “Tiny” Ulfers; and an infant brother, Diedrich Christian. She
is survived by her husband, Duane Buseman, Aplington, Iowa; one son,
Brian (Heidi) Buseman, Aplington; one grandchild, Halle Kate Buseman;
and one sister, Ruth Ulfers, Iowa City, Iowa. Extended family includes
Gay and Carol Hempen, Cindy and Eric Wedeking and family, Jeff and Renae
Hempen and family, all of Clarksville, Iowa; Bev Hempen, Aplington,
Iowa; Dorothy Ludemann of New York and Ted and Katy Ellefson of North
Carolina. Memorial Services were held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 22,
2005 at the Bethel Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa. With Rev. Scott
Summers and Rev. Charles E. Orr officiating. Organist was Belva Schipper.
Special Music “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Vocalist Stan Thompson sang
“Remember Me” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” Congregational Hymns were
“God Be With You” and “Because He Lives.” Urn Bearer was Diletta’s son
Brian Buseman. Honorary Urn Bearers were Becky Palcic, Cookie Ridder,
Martha Johnson, Hannah Miller, and Sandy Sessler. Inurnment was in
Bethel Reformed Cemetery Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral
Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be

Arlene Faith Thompson

Arlene Faith Thompson, age 70, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter
of Earl and Leora Ahrens McKinney on January 14, 1935, in rural Dumont,
Iowa. She graduated from Hansel High School in 1952. Arlene was united
in marriage with Arthur Thompson, Jr. on February 20, 1954, in Eldora,
Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa falls after marriage, then moved to
Chapin. Their home in Chapin burned in 1958, and they moved to Hampton.
The family again moved in 1963 to Parkersburg that home also was
destroyed by fire. The family then moved to the present home in
Aplington. Arlene began working at the canning factory in Ackley after
Arthur’s death in 1980. Later she became a certified nursing assistant
and worked at the Presbyterian Village of Ackley for 14 years and the
Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldora for 10 years.
She retired in 2003 due to her health. Arlene loved to create quilts,
did knitting and she enjoyed making crochet dolls. She liked to spend
time doing crossword puzzles. One of her favorite hobbies was collecting
Beanie Babies. Arlene died Sunday, September 18, 2005, at Maple Manor
Village in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Arthur Thompson, Jr. on October 28, 1980; her parents,
Earl and Leora McKinney; an infant son, Kenneth; two brothers, Clair and
Gerald McKinney and six sisters, Roberta McKinney, Helen Bates, Marian
Lienemann, Norma Anway, Virginia Bielefeld and Marlene Curtis. She is
survived by five sons, Rick (Simone) Thompson, Aplington, Iowa; Steve
Thompson, Ackley, Iowa; Howard Thompson, Aplington, Iowa; Todd (Laura)
Thompson, Aplington, Iowa and Alan Thompson, Austinville; six
grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Thompson, Michael and Christopher
Thompson and David and Natalie Thompson. Funeral Services were held at
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Aplington Baptist
Church, Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Pianist was
Suzie Smith. Vocalist Dan Smith sang “Untitled Hymn”. Congregational
Hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”.
Casketbearers were David Thompson, Michael Thompson, Chris Thompson,
Rick Thompson, Todd Thompson, Howard Thompson and Alan Thompson.
Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa.

Harry G. Day

Harry
G. Day, 81, of Dumont, Iowa passed away September 20, 2005, at the
Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. Harry was born June 21,
1924, in Dumont, Iowa to Fred and Reka (Lolling) Day. Harry graduated in
1941 from Dumont High School. He served his country during World War II
in the United States Navy stationed at Bouganville in the Solomon
Islands. He was critically injured during a bombing raid. He spent years
convalescing in San Diego and Des Moines VA Hospitals. On June 21, 1947
he was united in marriage to Irene Muhlenbruch in Hampton, Iowa. He was
a member of the Dumont Reformed Church, a life member of the Disabled
American Veterans, and the Dumont American Legion. He resided at the
Hampton Health Care Center for the past three years. Harry enjoyed
spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great
grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Irene Day of Dumont, son
Larry and wife Ellen Day of Shell Rock, daughter Marcia and husband Lyle
Bair of Keswick, sister Wilma McKinney of Aredale, sister Lavon Johnson
of Allison, brother John and wife Esther Day of Hampton, grandchildren:
Shelly Dix, Sarah Bair, Adam Bair, Meredith Bair and Nathan Bair, great
grandchildren: Bailey and Dawson Dix and Henry Bair. He was preceded in
death by his parents, infant daughter, granddaughter (Stacy Day), four
brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.,
Friday September 23, 2005 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Bob
Scholten officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Jim
Siebrands accompanying soloist, Sheryl Scholten. Pallbearers were Mike,
Day, Brian Dix, Alan Meyer, Gary Knipfel, Dough Muhlenbruch and Rodney
McKinney. Honorary pallbearers were Shelly Dix, Sarah Bair, Meredith
Bair, Adam Bair and Nathan Bair. Final resting place was in the Dumont
Cemetery with full military services provided by Dumont American Legion.
Burial was in the Dumont Cemetery. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Richard John Tjabring
10/09/05
Richard John Tjabring, age 72, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of
Peter and Grace (Molendorp) Tjabring on February 28, 1933, in Aplington,
Iowa. He graduated from the Aplington High School in 1951. Following
graduation Richard began working as a carpenter. Richard was united in
marriage with Delene Siebrands on December 12, 1959, in Cedar Falls,
Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home and remained living
in Aplington. Richard was drafted into the United States Army on August
4, 1954. During this time he served overseas in Okinawa, Japan, and was
honorably discharged on August 3, 1956. After returning home he
continued to do carpentry work until 1959, when he was employed by John
Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked as a machinist for 32 years and
retired in 1990. Richard was a member of the Aplington AMVETS and the
UAW Local 838th. He enjoyed vacationing in Minnesota and Canada, where
he enjoyed fishing with family and friends. In addition he liked to go
camping and hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially
his grandchildren. Richard died on Monday, September 26, 2005, at the
Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was
preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Beth; his parents; one
sister, Jennie Kuper; and one brother, Conrad Tjabring. Richard is
survived by his wife, Delene Tjabring of Aplington, Iowa; two sons,
Randall (Sheryl) Tjabring of Aplington, Iowa, and Mark (Jodi) Tjabring
of Aplington, Iowa; two daughters, Laura (Todd) Thompson of Aplington,
Iowa, and Lisa (Mark) Crandall of Ankeny, Iowa; nine grandchildren,
Jessica & Jennifer, Kelli & Ryan, Rebecca, Raylynn, and Shakira, Shayler
& Shason; a niece, Judy Kuper; and a nephew, Jerry Kuper. Funeral
Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2005 at the
Aplington Baptist Church in Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Dan Smith
officiating. Pianist was Suzie Smith. Vocalist Dan Smith sang “Untitled

Leroy George Frey

Leroy George Frey, age 81, of Ackley, Iowa, was born the son of George
and Johanna Meyer Frey northwest of Aplington, Iowa, on July 21, 1924.
He attended country school near his home and graduated from Aplington
High School in 1942. Leroy was united in marriage with Jean Hilsabeck on
September 14, 1947, at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown,
Iowa. He lived and farmed all his life northwest of Aplington. Leroy
worked as a U.S.D.A. F.S.A. Officer for 27 years and had been an
insurance crop adjuster for hail damage. Leroy retired in the 1990’s. He
enjoyed restoring tractors and also liked to raise pigeons, especially
the white ones. In the afternoon, he would release them and loved
watching them fly over the farm. Leroy attended meetings with the
Christians at the Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington. He saw
himself as a helpless sinner and accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal
Savior, in September 1987, assuring for himself eternal life with HIM.
Leroy died peacefully on September 29, 2005, in the presence of his
family at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. He was
preceded in death by his parents, son, Kevin; one brother, Donald (in
infancy); two brothers-in-law, Floyd Christopherson and Verle Hilsabeck,
and Shirley Keller, a sister-in-law, all precious to him. Leroy is
survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Frey of Ackley, Iowa, daughter,
Paulette (Allen) Hill of Palos Park, Illinois; two sons, Bryan (Renise)
Frey of Ackley, Iowa, and Eric Frey of Waterloo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren,
Dustin Hill, Alison (Matt) Hebert, Amy (Shawn) Heitland, Maria (Brad)
Hartkopp, Jarred Frey, Misty (Jamie) Winters, Bridget (Andy) Bloomquist,
Brooke (Jon) Onken, Brent Frey, Brady Frey, and Turner Frey; two
sisters, Lorraine Christopherson, Aplington and Ann (Roy) Weber, Stout.
There are 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 10:30
a.m., Monday, October 3, 2005 at Hitesville Gospel Hall, rural
Aplington, Iowa. Officiating were Mr. Robert Orr, Mr. Russell Nesbit and
Mr. Roy Weber. Vocalists were the Glory Bound Singers who sang “It Is
Well With My Soul” and “Where the Roses Never Fade.” Congregational
Hymns were “Jesus Paid It All”, “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Is Coming”.
Casketbearers were Tom Christopherson, Jarred Frey, Shawn Heitland,
Brent Frey Jon Onken and Andy Bloomquist. Honorary Casketbearers were
Brady Frey and Turner Frey. Interment was in Hitesville Cemetery rural
Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in

Anna H. Oltmann

Anna H. Oltmann, 87, of Allison, Iowa, passed away September 28, 2005,
at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa of natural causes.
she was born January 31, 1918, on a farm southeast of Allison, the
daughter of George and Etta (Rieken) Johnson. She was educated in the
Parkersburg Schools. Anna moved to Parkersburg at an early age. She was
baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was married to John
Oltmann on January 16, 1937 in Allison, Iowa. She was a homemaker and
farm wife. To this union three sons were born, Erwin, Dennis and
Merrill. They lived on the family farm north of Allison for 37 years,
moving to their home in Allison in 1976. Anna was a member of the St.
James Lutheran Church, WELCA group, Sunday School teacher and she was
active in her church. She enjoyed quilting, making draperies and she
took great pride in her home. Anna is survived by her son Erwin & wife
Betty Oltmann of Cedar Falls, son Dennis & wife Janet Oltmann of
Westminister, Colorado, son Merrill & wife Diane Oltmann of Evansdale,
sister Henrietta & husband Lawrence Schrage of Parkersburg, brother
George & wife Eileen Johnson of Waterloo, sister Sophie Christensen of
Humboldt, sister-in-law Matilda Johnson of Allison, grandchildren:
Jeffrey, Kent, Ross, Michael, Kurt, Brent, Mitchell, Michelle and ten
great grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
stepmother, four brothers Harold, Edward, Clarence and Richard, one
sister Johanna Wubbena and two grandsons in infancy. Funeral services
were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the St. James
Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating.
Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe
accompanying soloist, Judy Heeren. Pallbearers were Ross Oltmann, Kurt
Oltmann, Jeffrey Oltmann, Michael Oltmann, Kent Oltmann, Brent Oltmann,
Mitchell Oltmann and Michelle Shillinglaw. Final resting place was in
the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Marius Leroy Kole

Marius Leroy Kole, age 77, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of
Jacobus and Tena (Klooster) on September 25, 1928, Ackley, Iowa. He
graduated from the New Hartford High School, New Hartford, Iowa, in
1946. Marius served in the United States Navy from 1950 and was
honorably discharged in 1954. Marius was united in marriage with Edna
Meyer on July 11, 1952, in Vallejo, California. Following his enlistment
he continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar
Falls, Iowa and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1958. He also
then he attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New
Mexico, where he received a Masters Degree in Elementary School
Administration in 1969. He was an elementary principal and teacher for
32 years, retiring in 1991. Through those years, he was in the school
systems at Nevada, Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Dike. Marius was a lifelong
member of the Christian Reformed Church where he served as a Sunday
School Teacher and Elder. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking.
Education and learning were his passions and he always enjoyed teaching
children and young people. Marius died Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at
Sartori Memorial Hospital ER in Cedar Falls, Iowa, of natural causes. He
was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jacob Kole. He is
survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna Kole of Aplington, Iowa; one son,
Jay (Jody) Kole of Grand Junction, Colorado; three daughters, Rochelle
(Tim) Schiebout of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Renee (Dallas) Roskamp,
Edgerton of Minnesota; Karen (Harry) Van Harten of Calgary, Alberta; ten
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Pat Kole
of Aplington, Iowa. Memorial Services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday,
October 1, 2005, at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa,
with Rev. Frank Pott officiating. The organist was Angie Meester, family
members sang “I heard the Voice of Jesus Say,” and the Congregational
Hymns were “Nearer Still Nearer” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

Marvin Niehaus

Marvin Niehaus, age 82, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born August 29, 1923,
in Jackson Township, Butler County, Iowa on a farm northwest of
Clarksville to Henry F. and Clara Hilmer Niehaus. Marvin was baptized
into the Christian faith on September 23, 1923 at St. John’s Lutheran
Church , Vilmar, Iowa by the Rev. Conrad Weltner. At the age of 14, he
was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Clarksville, Iowa, by the
Rev. S. M. Becker. Marvin graduated from Clarksville High School in
1941. Marvin has been a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in
Clarksville for more than 78 years. He enjoyed singing and through his
singing, he attempted to witness to his faith in Jesus Christ as his
Lord and Savior. He sang in the church choir for over 65 years. Marvin
also sang in the Clarksville Community Chorus from the time it began and
took part in the Country Roads Show for 25 years. Marvin was a farmer
and enjoyed living in the country even after his semi-retirement. Marvin
died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Community Nursing Home in
Clarksville, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Henry and Clara Niehaus; his sister, Ruth Kluiter; two
brothers, Vern and Lloyd Niehaus; a brother-in-law, A.J. Kluiter; and a
sister-in-law, Helen Niehaus. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Marcene
Niehaus, Clarksville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, Randy (Lynn)
Niehaus, Clarksville, Iowa, Keith Niehaus, Clarksville, Iowa, Craig
Niehaus, Ankeny, Iowa, Myrna (John) Culbertson, Charles City, Iowa,
Vivian (Robert) Chestnut, Waverly, Iowa, JoAnn (Larry) Betts,

Cemetery, rural Clarksville. Elgie Hays Wayne was born September 3, 1937
at Fennimore, Wisconsin a son of Leon John and Edna May (Hays) Wayne,
and died Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at his home in rural Clarksville.
He attended several different schools in Wisconsin, graduating at
Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Following graduation he worked for
Bridgeport Cheese in Prairie Du Chien until entering the United States
Air Force in 1954. Following his discharge in 1957 he returned to
Prairie Du Chien where he was employed by Carol Wooling. Elgie came to
Iowa in 1961 where he met and married Sandra Winterton in 1962 at Osage.
To this union were born two sons. In 1967 Elgie and Sharon Dirkson had a
daughter. He moved to Mason City in 1970 where he met and married Doris
(Frazer) Kraft on February 14, 1971 in Sioux Falls, S.D. To this union
seven children were loved and raised. He had several different jobs
during his lifetime which included factory work, roofing, tire repair,
cheese making, farming, and finally goat herdsman for Al Buseman until
being diagnosed with cancer. Elgie enjoyed fishing, camping, turtle
trapping, riding horses, caring for goats, gardening, and working on
cars and trucks. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family
and friends. Elgie was always proud to be called on to fix the
grandchildren’s broken toys. He is survived by his wife Doris of
Clarksville, Laurie (Russ) Cordes of Clarksville, George (Tammy) Wayne
of Forest City, Cindy Futrell (Steve Smith special friend) of
Clarksville, Curtis (Barbara) Wayne of Gulf Breese , Fl, Steve (Lori)
Kraft of Tacoma, Washington, Rodney (Tina) Wayne of Oelwein, Christis (Maxcine)Wayne
of Fulton, Ill, Tammy (Andre’)Raymond of Freeport, Fl, Karen (Corey)
Klouse of Mason City, Gena Wayne (Dave Hugel special friend) of Waverly,
Forty-one Grandchildren, Fourteen Great Grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews. Elgie was preceeded in death by his parents, four brothers:
Cleo, Burdette, Lawerence, Gene, one daughter, Denise LeBeck and two
grandson’s Rusty Scroggins and Jarrod Wayne. Those planning an

Ernest Roose

John Ernest Roose, age 73, of Marshalltown, formerly of Allison, Iowa,
was born the son of Joe and Edna (Flege) Roose on September 14, 1932, at
home on a farm east of Allison. He was baptized into the Christian faith
on January 12, 1933, and confirmed on March 30, 1947, both at St. James
Lutheran Church in Allison. He graduated from the Clarksville High
School in 1952. John served in the United States Army from May 8, 1953,
as a Company Clerk in the 5th Armor Division, until March 10, 1955, when
he was honorably discharged. During this time he was overseas in Korea
during the Korean War. John was united in marriage with Lois Brandt on
August 7, 1955, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, Iowa. The couple
began to farm in 1956 on the family farm near Allison, where he was
born. On October 14, 1956, a son, John Rodney was born and on April 24,
1959, a daughter, Rhonda Lynn was born to the family. He started working
at Carnation Co. in Waverly on December 8, 1966. He became eligible for
retirement on February 28, 1990. September 11, 1989, his health gave him
problems and he went to Rochester for relief and came home with Global
Anoxia. John was tested by many area hospitals. After his health
declined even more, he became a resident of Iowa Veterans Home in
Marshalltown, Iowa on September 4, 1996. John was active in the
community. He joined the Clarksville AMVETS in March of 1958 and soon
became a life member. He was one of the financial committee members
responsible for the purchase of a building for the AMVET members in
1962. John served as local commander from June 1960 to 1962. He was also
active in 3rd District meetings. John was a member of the St. John
Lutheran Church in Clarksville, were he served on the financial
committee when the new addition was built. He was a Butler County ASCS
Committee member. John thoroughly enjoyed his friends from Clarksville
and liked watching stock car races whenever possible. He took great
pride and kept the farm and surroundings in good repair. John died
Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in
Marshalltown, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his
parents. He is survived by his wife, Lois N. Roose of Allison, Iowa; one
son, John Rodney (Karolyn) Roose of Allison, Iowa; one daughter, Rhonda
Lynn (Bob) Bandfield of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Amber
and Courtney Roose and Ashley, and Emily and Gabriel Bandfield; two
sisters, Joan (James) Alexander of Hampton, Iowa and Donna (Jim) Murphy
of Scottsdale, Arizona; and his mother-in-law, Martha Brandt of Waverly,
Iowa. Funeral Service were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 30,
2005, at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. David
Nelson officiating. Organist was Roberta Nieman. Vocalist Glenda Timmer
sang “Long Journey Home” and “Where the Roses Never Fade.”
Congregational Hymns were “Lead On O King Eternal”,”This Is My Father’s
World” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer.” Casketbearers were Darrell Young,
Vince Fasse, Orville Jones, Roger Wedeking, Gary Koop, and Don Kielman.
Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa with Full Military
Rites provided by Clarksville AMVETs Post #30. Redman-Schwartz Funeral
Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be

Lucille Isabelle DePuew

Lucille Isabelle DePuew, age 86, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the
daughter of George and Ruby (Wamsley) Hurd on March 15, 1919, on the
family farm in rural Butler County, Clarksville, Iowa. She received her
education from a country school near her home and then attended the
Clarksville High School. Lucille was united in marriage with Edward
Phillip DePuew on October 28, 1935, in New Hampton, Iowa. They made
their home on a farm west of Clarksville with Lucille’s family for five
years. Ed and Lucille moved around to various farms in Butler County,
until in 1956 they moved to town to their current home in Clarksville.
Lucille worked the family farm along with Ed through the years. After
they moved, she cooked and helped Ed with janitorial duties at the
Clarksville School for many years. Ed and Lucille also owned and
operated “Ed’s Handy Service,” a filling station, in Clarksville.
Lucille attended the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, baking, bird watching and taking care of
her flowers. She loved having family and guests over to visit. Lucille
died Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the Waverly Health Care Center,
Waverly, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her
parents; one brother, Harold Hurd; a granddaughter, Patricia Miller; a
great-grandson, Nicholas Dettmer; a daughter-in-law, Mona DePuew, and
two sisters-in-law, Eileen DePuew and Lois Hurd. Lucille is survived by
her husband, Edward DePuew of Clarksville, IA; four sons, William “Bill”
(Teresa) DePuew of Waverly, IA, Joseph (Lois) DePuew of Sioux City, IA,
Jerry (Rose) DePuew of Clarksville, IA, Maynard “Mike”(Barb) DePuew of
Las Vegas, NV; two daughters, Betty (Ronald) Miller of Clarksville, IA,
and JoAnn DePuew of Clarksville, IA; 17 grandchildren; 26
great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one sister, Dorothy
(Lyle) Wedeking of Waukon, IA, and one brother-in-law George DePuew of
St. Cloud, Florida. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday,
October 2, 2005, at the Community United Methodist Church, Clarksville,
Iowa with Pastor Ann Donat officiating. Organist was Lola Clark.
Congregational Hymns were “Old Rugged Cross”, “Hymn of Promise” and “In
The Garden”. Honorary Casketbearers were her Granddaughters Kristy
Rider, Kim DePuew, Brenda DePuew, Lori Berens, Ellen Goosby, Terry
Dubinski, Lisa Bartlett, Robbi Dettmer and Rhonda Gade. Casketbearers
were her grandson, Kirk DePuew, Ken DePuew, Paul Miller, Alan Miller,
Brian Miller, David DePuew, Mark DePuew and Jay DePuew. Interment was in
Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the
family. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of
arrangements.

Richard H. “Bud” Williams

Richard H. “Bud” Williams, 74, of Allison, Iowa, passed away October 6,
2005, at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton, where he had been a
resident since May, 2005. He was born June 10, 1931, in Butler County,
to Richard T. and Flora (Leerhoff) Williams. Bud graduated from the
Allison High School in 1949. He married Betty Brinkman on September 21,
1954, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Bud lived and farmed south of Allison all of
his life until he and Betty moved to Allison in 2003. Bud accepted
Christ as his Savior through John 3:16 at the age of 8. He was in
fellowship at the Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington, Iowa. He
enjoyed music and farming. He was a very devoted husband, father and
grandfather. Bud is survived by his wife Betty Williams of Allison,
daughter Connie & husband Bob Opperman of Allison, son Jeff & wife
Rhonda Williams of Allison; brother Don Williams and wife Karen of
Delhi; four grandchildren: Tony & Tyler Opperman, Mitchell & Stephanie
Williams; brother-in-law Edwin Meyer, and many nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Stanek,
brother-in-law Larry Stanek and sister-in-law Paulene Meyer. Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2005 at the
Hitesville Gospel Hall, rural Aplington with Robert Orr & Russell Nesbit
officiating. The hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “A Glorious Morrow” and
“How Great Thou Art.” The ushers were Kenneth Tack and Earl DeVries.
Pallbearers were Larry Asche, Dallas Kluiter, Wes Swieter, LaVern
Kluiter, Larry Brandt and Tom Christopherson. Final resting place was in
the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of

Funeral arrangements for Letha Viola Groothuis, 90, of Greene, were held
Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 324, East
Traer, Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial was in the
Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Letha Viola Kiehn was born January 26, 1915,
in Coldwater Township, Butler County, a daughter of Albert H. and
Christina A. (Schafer) Kiehn, and died Friday, October 7, 2005, at her
home in Greene. She was Baptized March 7, 1915 at her home and was
confirmed April 1, 1928 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. She
received her education in the rural Coldwater No. 2 School and as a
young lady worked at home. On March 2, 1946 she was united in marriage
to John B. Groothuis of Aplington, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Waverly. They farmed three years near Aredale, six years near marble
Rock, and later near Greene until John’s death on January 12, 1969. She
moved into Greene in 1979. Letha was a faithful member in the life of
her church having served on the Altar Guild for over 20 years, sewing
quilts for over 25 years, and being active in the WELCA. Letha was a
fiercely independent individual who was able to take care of her own
self, her home and her business affairs. She was a member of the Tack
Barnett Legion Auxiliary, and bowled in the women leagues for over 40
years. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling to such places as Alaska
and Europe. Living family members include two nieces: Kristen Ritcher of
Golden, CO, and Suanne Kiehn of Alameda, CA, two nephews: Joe Kiehn of
Grand Junction, CO, and John Kiehn of Fort Lupton, CO; two
sisters-in-law; Irene Kiehn of Fort Lupton, CO, and Helen Kiehn of
Greene. She leaves to join her parents, and two brothers: Earl Kiehn and
Lawrence Kiehn. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct

Erma L. Bartels, 94, of Rogers, AR,
died Monday, July 12, 2005 at Highland Health Care in
Bella Vista, AR. She was born October 27, 1910 in
Foxboro, Wisconsin to Joseph Runser and Welhmina Stengel
Runser. She moved to Rogers in 1992 from Greene, Iowa
where she had lived for many years. She was a member of
the Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, AR. She was a
painter and enjoyed golf and playing cards until
becoming legally blind from Macular Degeneration. She
was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar
Bartels in 1975, one son Don Bartels, one daughter Betty
Bartels, one grandchild Jane Harris, and one great
grandson Donald Harris. She is survived by her son Leroy
Bartels of Des Moines, Iowa, two daughters; Sally
Anderson of Winter Haven, Florida and Jeanne Frank of
Rogers, AR. Tweve grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services are being planned for December 3rd at
2:00 PM at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First
Street, Greene, with interment of cremains in the Rose
Hill Cemetary, Greene.

George H. Reysack, Jr., 67, of Dumont, Iowa died October 7, 2005 at the
Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, IA of natural causes. On August
14, 1938, he was born to George and Etta (Folkerds) Reysack, Sr. of
Aredale, Iowa. He attended Aredale Country School. George was a welder
at United Hydraulics, and he enjoyed taking care of horses and riding in
his car. Survivors include two daughters: Tammy Bass and fiancé Al
Brandt of Hampton and Robin and husband Erik Hargreaves, of Maine; three
sisters: Alice Campbell of Dumont, Hilda and husband Steve Metz of
Hampton, and Tilene and husband Bill DeBoer of Allison; five brothers:
James and wife LaVonne Reysack of Charles City, Johnny and wife Geneva
Reysack of Coulter, Leroy and wife Cindy Reysack of Bristow, Jans and
wife Cindy Reysack of Dumont and Emmo Reysack of Dumont; grandchildren:
Nicole and Tyler Bass of Hampton and Emily and Camden Hargreaves of
Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Todd Metz, a
niece Becky Sue Campbell and twins by Bill and Tilene DeBoer. Memorial
services will be at a later date, and inurnment will be at a later date

Harold Henry Cassmann

Harold Henry Cassmann, 87, of Allison, Iowa, passed away October 7, 2005
at his home in Allison, Iowa. He was born August 24, 1918, in rural
Foxhome Co., Minnesota, to Henry & Elizabeth (Lursen) Cassmann. Harold
attended country schools in Minnesota. He served his country in the
United States Navy during World War II on a LST as a Motor Machinist
Mate. Harold married Helen Saunders on November 3, 1943, in Albert City,
Iowa. He was a member of the American Legion, the Allison Amvets and the
Blacksmith & Welder’s Association. Harold loved fishing. In his earlier
years, he enjoyed the extended family visiting for opening day of
pheasant season. In his later years he loved sitting in his welding shop
office visiting with friends and anyone who dropped in. His
grandchildren and great grand-children loved to see grandpa in his shop.
Harold owned and operated Cassmann Machine and Welding in Allison for 57
years. Harold is survived by his wife Helen Cassmann of Allison,
daughter Linda & husband Mark Randall of Allison, daughter Janis &
husband Craig Cramer of Allison, son David & wife Lisa Cassmann of
Algona, daughter Susan & husband Jim Rewerts of Allison; brother LeRoy
Cassmann of Hampton, brother Henry Cassmann of Manchester, 12
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, 2 sisters August Kluiter and Louisa Busma. Funeral services
were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday October 11, 2005 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Greene with Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Special music
was provided by organist, Theresa Majewski accompanying soloist, Dan
Meyer. The flower committee was Alice Konig and Brenda Miller.
Pallbearers were Tony Fecht, Darwin Fecht, Denny Miller, Rick Wehrhan,
Jim Oltmann and Darwin Wubbena. Final resting place was in the Allison
Cemetery with military services provided by the Allison Amvets. Sietsema-Vogel

Sena Margaret Ibeling, 92, of Guttenberg, Iowa, formerly of rural
Ackley, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, October 15,
2005, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa, following a
brief illness. She was born on August 6, 1913, in Geneva, Iowa to the
late Henry and Frieda (Miller) Siems. She graduated from Geneva High
School in 1931. She married Herman G. Ibeling May 2, 1934, at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 27,
1989. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Kesley, Iowa, for
nearly 55 years. Sena enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fancy work and
cooking. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a
member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. She is survived by
her daughter La Donna (Roy) Jetter of Guttenberg, three grandchildren
Teresa (Michael) Thorson of Sequim, Washington, Kurt (Mary) Jetter of
St. Paul, Minnesota, and Karen (Jeff) Schluter of Minocqua, Wisconsin;
three great grandchildren Taylor Thorson, Christopher and Aaron Jetter;
sister Dorothy (Kenneth) Harper of Hansell, sister Marie Voy of Geneva,
many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, one grandson Mark Alan Jetter, three sisters Esther
Muessigmann, Lena Silver and Edith Horner. Funeral services were held at
11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the Dumont Reformed Church
with Rev. Bob Scholten officiating. Special music was provided by
organist, Jim Siebrands accom-panying soloist, Cheryl Scholten.

Lisa Mohring, 21, and Addison Mae Wilharm, 14 months, died Saturday,
October 15, 2005, at their home. Funeral services for Lisa and “Addy”
Mae will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church
in Charles City. Reverend Anne Sunday, pastor of the First United Church
of Christ of Pleasant Valley, will officiate. Inurnment and burial will
be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hauser
Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will
continue at the church an hour prior to the service. Lisa Marie Mohring
was born June 4, 1984, at Cedar Falls, the daughter of Bryan Mohring and
Christine Catchpool. She graduated from the Nashua Plainfield High
School in 2002. Lisa worked at Eastside Mini Mart in Charles City.
Addison Mae Wilharm was born August 7, 2004 at Charles City, the
daughter of Shane Wilharm and Lisa Mohring. Survivors include Shane
Wilharm of Clarksville, Lonny “Sam” and Glenda Wilharm of
Clarksville, Chris Catchpool of Charles City, Jeff Koenigsfeld of
Nashua, Jim and Della Jordan of Plainfield, Cleora Jordan of Frederika,
Judy Catchpool of Nashua, Melvin and Faye Mohring of Plainfield, Stephen
and Mary Koenigsfeld of Marble Rock, Tami Wilharm of Clarksville, Matt

Alice Mildred “Muggs” Wright

Alice
Mildred “Muggs” Wright, 80, was born on June 25, 1925 in Allison, Iowa.
She was the only child of Zella Codner and John Henry Weiland. Muggs
graduated from Allison High School in 1942. She then attended Des Mines
Business College for two years. On September 8, 1973, Muggs was united
in marriage to Harold Mac Wright. Harold and Muggs became inseparable
companions over the next 33 years. They wintered in Naples, Florida for
the last 14 years. Harold and Muggs were very active in the Za Ga Zig
Shrine functions. Muggs loved to entertain and have a good time. She
played in several bridge clubs. Mugg’s family was very important to her.
She loved to spend time cooking and being with them. Alice Mildred
“Muggs” Wright passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Mercy
Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her
parents and one grandchild. Those left to mourn her passing are her
husband of 33 years, Harold of Knoxville; five children and their
spouses: Bette and Mike Cunningham, Sr., Bob and Amy Hook of Knoxville,
Sally and Mike Proctor of Urbandale, Rita and Howard Elliott of
Wellington, FL, and Bill and Lyn Hook of Cambridge; five step children:
Luann Anderson, Harold B. and Kim Wright, Cheryl Lockhart, Louis and Sam
Wright of Marshalltown, and Mike and Pat Wright of Grinnell; 20
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 16 step grand-children, and 11
step great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30
a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2005 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Wright may be made to Hospice of Central
Iowa or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Interment was in Graceland
Cemetery in Knoxville.

Margaret Helen Rossol

Miss Margaret Helen (Aunt Kit) Rossol, 91,of Waverly, Iowa, died
Wednesday morning, October, 12, 2005 at the Clarksville Community
Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, of natural causes. Margaret was born
on March 23, 1914, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Bernhard and
Antonie (Rhode) Rossol. She was baptized and later confirmed at
St.Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. She attended country school near
Tripoli, Iowa, and following her schooling she helped her parents on the
farm. She then took nurses training at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in
Waverly and went to work as a nurse there. In the mid 1940’s she
received her LPN and continued to work for the Waverly Hospital for a
total of twenty-nine years before retiring. Margaret then took care of
people in their homes for the next few years and in the early 1980’s
worked for several years as the housekeeper for St. Mary’s Catholic
Church Rectory in Waverly. In July of 1999, Margaret entered the
Clarksville Community Nursing Home following a serious heart attack.
Margaret was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.
Margaret loved to keep busy quilting, working in her garden (which she
was very proud of), staying in touch with her own family as well as her
hospital family, and the word NO was not in her vocabulary. Margaret was
happiest when she was doing something for someone else. Also she loved
to read and was so very proud when she received her G.E.D. at age 64.
Margaret is survived by one nephew, Hubert (Ann) Rossol of Denver, Iowa,
her two nieces, Connie Rossol of Clarksville, Iowa and Kathy (Doug)
Krukow of Waverly, Iowa, two great nieces, Sarah and Amy Krukow and one
great nephew, Adam Krukow. She was preceded in death by her parents, two
sisters, Mary Rossol and Cecilia in infancy, and a brother Edward Rossol
& his wife, Annie. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday,
October 15, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly,
with Rev. Mike Tauke presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic
Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, where there will

Lavon
D. Wiegmann, 85, of the Clarksville Community Nursing Home, formerly of
Allison, died at the home Friday, October 14 of natural causes. She was
born August 6, 1920 in Bristow, daughter of Frank and Violet Burbridge
Busse. She married Dirk Wiegmann July 27, 1940 in Esterville. He
preceded her in death on November 3, 1992. Survivors include one son,
Terry Wiegmann of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Victor (Virginia) Busse of
Clarksville; one sister, Elaine Miller of Allison; four grandchildren,
and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband; and one brother, Richard Busse. Graveside memorial services
will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 22 in Allison Cemetery, Allison.
There will be no visitation. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on

Frascht, 98, of Greene, died Monday, October 24, 2005, at the Nora
Springs Care Center in Nora Springs. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30
a.m. Friday, October 28, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Burial
in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 27, 2005 at. Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First
Street, Greene, where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30
p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church one hour before
services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials
to the Laura Frascht Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Wilma Gertrude Nyhus

Wilma Gertrude Nyhus, age 95, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born March 27,
1910, the daughter of Frederick William and Lillian Louise Greene
Weigert in Flandreau, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at
the Methodist Episcopal Church. Wilma graduated from Pipestone High
School in Pipestone, Minnesota and attended Normal School to receive her
teacher’s training. She taught in a one-room school in South Dakota for
a short time. Wilma was united in marriage with Carl Elmo Nyhus on July
20, 1929, in Madison, Moody County, South Dakota. She joined and was
confirmed in the Ivanhoe Lutheran Church in Minnesota in 1941. The
couple first made their home in Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1957, they
moved to Waverly, Iowa and purchased the Clarksville Café in 1967. She
continued to run the café until 1974. From 1975 to 1980, she lived in
Ohio near her daughter, Patricia. In 1980, she moved back to Clarksville
where she lived in the retirement village. Wilma was a member of St.
John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. She was active through her church
in the woman’s circle, participated in Bible Study and was a Synod
Delegate. Wilma was active in her community and was a member of the
Clarksville Federated Women’s Club, the Eastern Star, the Rebekah’s, the
American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Embroidery Club. She was
Co-Chair of the Community Chest Fund Drive and was active in the
Clarksville Commercial Club. Wilma felt strongly that the Afternoon
Social Club was a good thing for the community and worked hard to see
that it continued. She loved and gardened all her life until she was no
longer able. She spent time reading, fishing, bird watching and doing
home crafts. Wilma died Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Community Nursing
Home in Clarksville of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Elmo, in 1967; one son, Edward Elmo Nyhus; her parents; three
brothers, George, Edward and her twin, William Weigert and two sisters,
Lulu White and Irma Thomas, She is survived by three daughters, Cara
Scotting, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Patricia (Peter) Torvik, Xenia, Ohio
and Linda (Larry) Neal, Marshalltown, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Thomas
(Kathy) Scotting, Kathy Scotting, Peter Torvik, Jr., Carl (Elizabeth)
Torvick, Storme Neal, Marquette (Michele) Neal and Melanie (Glenn)
Thompson; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at
9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral
Home, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. David Nelson officiating. Organist was
Lola Clark. Congregational Hymns were “In the Garden” and “Softly and
Tenderly”. Casketbearers were Wilma’s grandchildren. Interment was in
Ivanhoe Cemetery, Ivanhoe, Minnesota.

Carrie Kramer

Carrie Kramer, 87, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died on Friday, October 21,
2005, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center. Carrie was born on November
3, 1917, in rural Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Kluiter
Sr. and Steinje (Klaassen) Kluiter. She attended country school at
Jefferson #4 in rural Butler County. After her schooling, she remained
at home and helped on the family farm. On February 25, 1938, Carrie was
united in marriage to John Kramer near Allison, Iowa. The couple made
their home on a farm in rural Shell Rock until moving to the home farm
in 1943. The couple raised their family and farmed until retiring and
moving to their home in Shell Rock in 1971. John passed away on December
6, 2004, and Carrie moved to The Meadows in Shell Rock shortly after.
Carrie was in fellowship with the Christians at the Hitesville Gospel
Hall. She was saved on February 17, 1929, in Coster, Iowa, during gospel
meetings held by Oliver Smith. She enjoyed traveling, baking, music, and
bird watching, but Carrie’s joy was her family. Carrie is survived by
five children, Ilene Uhlenhopp and her husband, Bruce, of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, Leroy Kramer and his wife, Laurie, of rural Clarksville, Iowa,
Gerald Kramer and his wife, Gwen, of Shell Rock, Iowa, Dean Kramer and
his wife, Lois, of Bristow, Iowa, and Randy Kramer and his wife, Theone,
of rural Shell Rock, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two
sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kluiter of Clarksville, Iowa and Evelyn Kluiter
of Shell Rock, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, John, Sebo, Chris,
Jerry and Albert; and two sisters, Minnie Harms and Anna Jacobs.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2005, at the
Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington, Iowa. Burial will be held in
Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until
6:00 pm on Sunday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials
may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family.

Margaret (Meyer) Klooster

Margaret (Meyer) Klooster, 89, was born July 2, 1916, in rural
Aplington, Iowa. She passed peacefully from this life of natural causes
on Monday, October 17, 2005, at the Maple Manor Care Center in
Aplington, Iowa. Her parents were Roelf & Jetta (Jurgena) Meyer. She was
baptized as a infant and made confession of faith in Jesus Christ in
1933. She was a member of the Aplington Reformed Church. Margaret
graduated from the Aplington High school in 1933. On January 1, 1937,
she married John Klooster of Aplington and they began farming southwest
of Austinville. After 6 years they moved to a farm northeast of Bristow.
Six years later they purchased a farm southeast of Bristow. She was a
homemaker all her life. In 1942, they became members of Bristow Reformed
Church. She taught catechism and Sunday School classes, was an active
member of the Ladies Guild, and served as church organist for many
years. After 38 years they retired from this farm and moved to Allison
in 1985. At that time they became members of Trinity Reformed Church. In
1996 Margaret became a resident of Maple Manor Care Village in
Aplington. Margaret liked being outside working in her vegetable and
flower gardens, making quilts, going fishing and playing her organ and
piano. She was an avid reader. Her family have good memories of happy
times with her. Living family members include her 3 children, James
(Shirley) Klooster of Allison, Marlys (Don) Wubbena of Clive, and Roger
(Pam) Klooster of Mason City. Twelve grandchildren and thirty-six great
grandchildren and her sister, Marie Meyer of Webster City and many
nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John
in 1992, one brother Alfred Meyer, a sister Flora Mehmen, five step
sisters, Wilhelmina Schnucker, Bessie Bierman, Anna Meyer, Jennie
Lauterbach and one in infancy, five step brothers Albert, Frederick and
Henry Meyer and twin brothers in infancy. Funeral services were held at
10:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Trinity Reformed Church in
Allison with Pastor Steve Petroelje officiating. Special music was
provided by keyboardist Greta Cordes accompanying the congregational
singing. Pallbearers were Tim Klooster, Jeff Wubbena, Bruce Crane, Rod
Van Raden, Brent Klooster and Mark Klooster. Final resting place was in
the Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Aplington. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
