Ilo Mae Severs

Ilo Mae Severs, 82, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away February 27, 2005, at the Hampton Health Care Center, Hampton, Iowa. Ilo Mae was born on July 31, 1922, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Laurentious Harvey and Wilhelmena (Hoeger) Cooley. She graduated from Randalia High School in Randalia, Iowa. She was married to Lester Severs on February 1, 1941, in Randalia, Iowa. She worked as a supply clerk for a research lab in Ames, Iowa, retiring in 1983. She was also a homemaker. Ilo was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, crocheting and making afghans for her family. She is survived by her husband Lester Severs of Dumont; three daughters: Dorothy and husband Al Balvanz of Fairbank, Dee Harp of Waverly and Judy and husband Don Henning of Phoenix, Arizona; two sons: Stan and wife Sharlene Severs of Ames and John and wife Patty Severs of Dumont; brother George Cooley of Waterloo; eighteen grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Lloyd, Earl, and Kenneth Cooley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Bob Scholten officiating. Special music will be provided by organist, Jim Siebrands accom-panying the soloist, Michael Tweedt. Pallbearers will be Jeff Harp, Rob Meister, Mark Severs, Steven Severs, David Ciavarelli and Chuck Henning. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Severs and Jeff Balvanz. Final resting place is in the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lori Jean Christensen

Funeral services for Lori Jean Christensen, 41, of Marble Rock, were held Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Kenneth Kent officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock. Lori Jean Hinrichsen was born January 8, 1964, at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, a daughter of Mervin Lloyd and Alma Jean (Smith) Hinrichsen, and died Friday, February 25, 2005, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City. She received her education at the Rudd Rockford and Marble Rock Public Schools graduating in 1982. During High School she sang in the choir and later in life developed a love for county music. Three of her favorite artists were George Strait, Steve Warner, and Reba. Other interests included reading paperback novels, writing poetry, and collecting Dolls by Precious Moments. She was confirmed as a member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock with special credit being given to Francis Swant, a member, who greatly impacted Lori’s life. In the late 1980’s Lori started to develop a devastating illness known as Progressive Familial Atazia Demensia Syndrome. She was united in marriage to Russell Christensen in June 1990 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Their union was blessed with the birth of one daughter. Lori’s condition began to deteriorate and eventually left her unable to care for herself. Lori was admitted to the Salsbury Baptist Home where she remained until her death. During her stay a faithful friend, Fran Schmitt, took the time to brighten Lori’s life by writing weekly letters of encouragement. Lori will be sadly missed by her Daughter Rachel and her father Russell Christensen both of Lake City, her Parents, Mervin & Alma Jean (Smith) Hinrichsen of Marble Rock; her Sister, Judy (Larry) Staudt of Marble Rock, and Dennis Hinrichsen of Mason City. She is also survived by four aunts: Opal Ackley of Marble Rock, Shirley Herman of Greene, Lyla Truex of Mason City, and Norma (Gene) Ewald of Marble Rock, and many Cousins. George Charles Henning

George Charles Henning, age 90, of Waterloo and formerly of Clarksville, Iowa, was born July 21, 1914, the son of Charles and Katie Dose Henning near Greene in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near his home. George was united in marriage with Elvera Griner on December 13, 1936 in her parents’ home near Dumont, Iowa. The couple farmed for several years in Bremer and Butler Counties. In 1948, they moved west of Clarksville where they stayed until 1963. At that time, they moved ½ mile north of Clarksville where they lived until they retired from farming in 1981. They moved to town in 1991. George entered Country View Nursing Home in 1998. George truly loved to farm and it was his whole life’s work. He loved anything to do with horses, especially the days when he farmed with them. He enjoyed attending events that involved horses such as shows, Cattle Congress and rodeos. George is a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. He especially loved the time spent with the grandchildren. George died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Country View Nursing Home in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elvera Henning on June 13, 2001; his parents; a great-grandson, Michael Darrah; and five brothers, John, Andrew, Adolph, Charles and Rudolph Henning. He is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Bill) Busching, Waverly, Iowa and Frances (Ron) Dempsey, Norwalk, Iowa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Margaret) Henning, Shell Rock, Iowa and Bill (Jean) Henning, Waverly, Iowa; four sisters, Alice (Lavern) Lundberg, Waverly, Iowa; Jennie Henning, Waverly, Iowa; Ann George, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Elizabeth (Joe) Wedeking, Clarksville, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Alice Henning, Clarksville, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, with private family burial prior to service in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville, Iowa Officiating was Pastor Tony Nester of Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly, Iowa. Special music was recorded hymns by Bill Henning. They were “The Lord’s Prayer”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”. Casketbearers were Susan Darrah and Kevin Tjebkes; Janelle and Dan Lahr; Denise McCurnin and Andy Lahr; and Rod and Karen Dempsey. Honorary Casketbearers were Billy Lahr, Katy Lahr, Kiersten Darrah, Lauren Darrah, Katie McCurnin, Robby McCurnin, Emma Dempsey and Rhett Dempsey. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard “Dick” Franklin Waugh

Richard “Dick” Franklin Waugh, age 86, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Mark G. and Hazel Barnes Waugh on July 10, 1918, Waterloo, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from the Clarksville High School in 1935. Dick continued his education for a year at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and for a year at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. On December 16, 1939, Dick was united in marriage with Noma Sinram at the Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They built their first home in Clarksville where they lived their entire married life. Dick worked for his father at Waugh-Tackman Construction. Dick enlisted in the United States Army in 1944. He served in Europe during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Dick owned and operated the Standard Station in Clarksville for 25 years until he retired. Dick was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville, and in the past served on the church board and was church treasurer. He was active in the community and served on the City Council, the Butler County Election Board and was a volunteer Fire Fighter. Dick was a lifetime member of American Legion and the AMVETS both in Clarksville. He also was a former Mason. Dick spent many years making model train layouts by hand. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture for his grandchildren. Dick liked traveling with Noma out east to visit their son while he was in the Navy. Later for their 50th anniversary they took a trip on Amtrak to Washington and Oregon, which they enjoyed immensely. Dick died on Monday, February 21, 2005, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Hazel Waugh; and two sisters, Mary Draves and one in infancy. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Noma Waugh of Clarksville; one son, Mark R. (Darlene) Waugh of Granville, Ohio; one daughter, Susan (Ron) Paulsen of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jane (Jim) Reynolds, John (Jeni) Paulsen, Teri Waugh, Michelle (Steve) Waugh-Brinkley, Natalie Waugh and Ashley Waugh; seven great grandchildren, Ben, John, Michael, William, Katelyn, Conner and Isabella; and one brother-in-law, Emil Draves of Webster City, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 25, 2005 at Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Organist Lola Clark accompanied congregational hymns “Rock of Ages” and “In the Garden”. Casketbearers were Jane Reynolds, John Paulsen, Teri Waugh, Natalie Waugh, Michelle Waugh-Brinkley and Ashley Waugh. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery Clarksville, Iowa with Full Military Rites by Clarksville AMVETs Post #30. Memorials to the family. James Frederick Atkinson

James Frederick Atkinson, the son of Herbert and Julia (Whitney) Atkinson, was born March 15, 1919, at the family farm in Sheffield. He was baptized and confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield where he remained a member his entire life. Jim grew up on the family farm south of Sheffield with his sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth, and brother Clifford. He graduated from Sheffield High School in 1937. After graduation, he began farming with his father. On February 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Roberta Jean Radtke at the Methodist parsonage in Sheffield. They lived on the family farm south of Sheffield, and raised their five children. In 1974, he retired and in 1982 they moved to their present home in Sheffield. Jim was a member of the Pearl Lodge #426. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed golf and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Atkinson, Sheffield; his children Jean (Karl) Wiley of Wayne, Michigan, Pam Schelldorf of McKinney, Texas, Jim (Deb) Atkinson of Sheffield, Bob (Sheila) Atkinson of Bristow, and Lisa (Kevin) Hoefer of Manchester; one twin sister, Betty Rohn of Mankato, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Jani Breu, Jeremy Atkinson, Nathan Atkinson, Derek Schelldorf, Kyle Atkinson, Brett Schelldorf, Joy Vitiritto, Stephanie Atkinson, Lauren Hoefer, Ethan Hoefer, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Julia (Whitney) Atkinson, sister, Margaret Hughes, brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Phyllis Atkinson, and brother-in-law, Frederick Rohn; two infant grandsons, Andrew James Atkinson and Dylan Anthony Hoefer, and one great grandson, Nicholas Andrew Atkinson. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield, Iowa. with Rev. R. Karl Watkins officiating. Special music was by organist, Ruth Skeries accompanying soloist, Connie Yelland singing “On Eagles Wings”. Greeters were Barb Baxter and Juanita Blood. Pallbearers were Jani Breu, Jeremy Atkinson, Nathan Atkinson, Derek Schelldorf, Kyle Atkinson and Brett Schelldorf. Honorary pallbearers were Joy Vitiritto and Stefanie Atkinson. Final resting place was in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jeanette Burrows

Jeanette Burrows, age 91, of the Allison Care Center in Allison, Iowa, was born on the family farm in Tama County, Iowa, on October 21, 1913, the daughter of George and Laura (Morris) McNamee of Dysart, Iowa. She was the ninth child of that family of thirteen children. She attended rural school and Dysart High School. Jeanette McNamee was united in marriage with C.D. (Beany) Burrows on September 16, 1933, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in Geneseo Township near the Dysart area until 1954. They moved to their farm near New Hartford where they were dairy farmers until retiring in 1975. Jeanette participated in the farming and dairying on a daily basis. She raised chickens and always had a large garden. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Most members of the family had favorite “dishes” baked by Jeanette. The all-time favorite was her rolled sugar cookies. There were always sugar cookies at her home. Grandchildren are currently vying for the ability to bake the cookies “Most like Grandma’s.” After retirement, Jeanette and Beany enjoyed playing the banjo and violin in Blue Grass groups. They traveled to Blue Grass events in the Midwest and entertained locally. Retirement also gave them more time to visit in their children’s homes. Participation in the farming and fishing in the pond were highlights. Following Beany’s death, Jeanette moved to Parkersburg in 1978. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She moved to the Allison Care Center in February of 1993. Jeanette passed away at the Allison Care Center on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the age of 91 from natural causes. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Clarence (Beany) in 1977; four brothers, Gilson, Namon, David and Tommy; eight sisters, Ercell Bahr, Ruth Krug, Mary Jane Krug, Helen Coates, Theone Magill, Viola Burrows, Iola Whitmore and Lorena Buchanan. Jeanette is survived by: three sons, James of Waterloo, Larry (Wanda) of Sumner, Dale (Mary Beth) of Leonard, Texas; three daughters, Donna (Paul) Lindeman of Dysart, Mary (Ken) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, Cheryl (Steve) Hosper of Melbourne; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emma Burrows of LaPorte City; Vera Burrows of Jesup and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Anthony Bradseth officiating. Organist was Renise Aswegan. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and “God Be With You ‘til We Meet Again”. Casket Escorts were Jeanette’s grandchildren Timm Lindeman, Jeffery Burrows, Wendy Gerloff, Rick Burrows, Steven Burrows, Jill Newton Robert Burrows, Paige Somerville, Heidi Mittag, Heather Freeman, Debra Lechner, Chad Oldenburger, Breck Oldenburger, Derrick Rogers, Dustin Rogers and Jessica Hosper. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Laura E. Reents, 93, of Allison, Iowa, passed away March 6, 2005, at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa. Laura was born March 23, 1911 in Salem, Oregon, to Frank and Ella (Huebsch) Kapphahn. She attended schools in South Dakota. Laura was married to William R. Reents on November 7, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a homemaker. Laura was a member of the United Church of Christ in Allison. Laura enjoyed reading, listening to music and loved her flowers, gardening and canning. She is survived by her niece Thea & husband Ed Johnson of Clarksville and several nieces and nephews of South Dakota. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and six brothers. Funeral services were held at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Wedeking officiating. Pallbearers were Jay Green, Kurt Green, Ted Ferch, Rhiannan Ferch, Ed Johnson and Terry Wiegmann. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Blanche L. Mather Crooks

Funeral services for Blanche L. Mather Crooks, 90, formerly of 702 Riverview Drive, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the United Methodist Church, Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Blanche Louise Beguelin was born May 27, 1914 at Clayton, MO, a daughter of Alfred E. And Emma L. (Mange) Beguelin, and died Friday, March 4, 2005, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene where she had been a resident since August 1994. She was raised on a farm South West of Greene, and attended Bennezette Township School No. 6, and graduated from the Greene High School in 1932. She attended normal training classes and taught country school for several years. On May 27, 1935, she was united in marriage to Eldred Charles Mather at the home of her parents. They farmed together in the Marble Rock and Greene area until retiring in 1971. During this time, Blanche also worked at the Greene Café and was librarian for sixteen years. Eldred Mather died April 4, 1972. She was united in marriage to Samuel L. Crooks on June 9, 1994, at the United Methodist Church in Greene. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1999. Blanche had many talents and enjoyed painting, needle work, quilting, gardening, and growing and sharing flowers with family and friends. Living family members include two sons: Paul (Loan) Mather of Fort Washington, MD, Duane (Rose) Mather of Janesville, one daughter: Marjorie (Neal) O’Brien of Greene; four step children: Ronald (Beverly) Crooks of LaPorte City, Barbara (Robert) Lee of Rochester, MN, Ruth (Allan) Jacobson, Joan (Harold) Meyer, both of Greene; twin brothers: Francis (Lavonne) Beguelin of Bristow, Howard (Vada) Beguelin of Estacada, OR, one brother-in-law: Ralph (Eugenia) Mather of Crockett, TX; 11 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents; one sister and a brother-in-law: Doris (Harry) Ipsen; and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Mehlan. Doris June (Mortvedt) Harms

Doris June (Mortvedt) Harms, 84 of Waverly, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Waverly Health Center. Doris was born on January 8, 1921 in rural Story City, Iowa, the daughter of O.A. and Margaret (Henryson) Mortvedt. She attended school in the Story City area and graduated from Randall High School. She then attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and finished college at UNI (Iowa State Teacher’s College), Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in Allison, Iowa and that’s were she met Albert Harms. They were united in marriage on December 23, 1945 in rural Story City, Iowa. As she returned to teaching, she taught 3rd grade in Shell Rock, Iowa and taught kindergarten in the Waverly School System. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church; a longtime member of the Triple J Club. She enjoyed ceramics, counted cross stitching and word books. She is survived by her children and their spouses, daughter, Mary DeBower and her husband Russell of Allison, Iowa; son, Ted Harms and his wife, Jennifer Judson-Harms of New Hampton, Iowa; daughter, Anne Peterson and her husband, Steve of Estherville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Risdal of New York, New York; and Theola Clark and her husband, Ed of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Walter Mortvedt of Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert on May 31, 1992, one sister, Helen Jacobson, two brothers, her twin brother, Donald Mortvedt and Ansel Mortvedt. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 1:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waverly. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Good Shepherd Chapel at the Bartels Lutheran Home. Henry A. Schipper

Henry A. Schipper, age 82, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Andrew and Lena (Johnson) Schipper on April 23, 1922, north of Kesley, Iowa on his parents’ farm. He received his education from Ripley Township country schoolhouse #8, near his home.On December 3, 1947, Henry was united in marriage with Effie Mehmen at the First Reformed Church Parsonage in Aplington, Iowa. Henry and Effie lived and farmed three different farms, all north of Aplington, until they moved to town in 1984. He continued farming with his sons until he retired in 1995. Henry enjoyed farming and raising livestock, and his favorite tractor was an orange AC tractor. Henry was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington, where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir when he was younger. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Henry loved music and could play a variety of instruments including the guitar, harmonica and the accordion. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Henry died on Friday, March 04, 2005, at the Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by parents; a sister, Anna Marks; and three brothers, George A., John A. and Andrew Schipper. Henry is survived by his wife of 57years, Effie Schipper of Aplington; two sons, Merle Schipper (special friend, Jeri Hoffman) of Aplington and Jim (Belva) Schipper of Aplington; one daughter, Kathy (Rick) Penning of Wellsburg, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ryan (LeAnn) Schipper, Todd (Jessica) Schipper, Carrie Schipper, Dean Penning, Curtis (Cam) Penning; two step grandchildren, Zach and Michelle; four great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Brayden, Keaton, Jaden; three brothers, Harvey (Esther) of Aplington, Paul (Irma) Schipper of Parkersburg, Iowa and Lee (Dorothy) Schipper of Aplington; four sisters, Kate Aalderks of Kesley, Iowa, Helena Eilderts of Aplington, Grace (Don) Huisman of Wellsburg, Iowa and Hattie (Edwin) Behrends of Wellsburg, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Schipper of Aplington and Alberta Schipper of Parkersburg, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Scott Summers officiating. Organist was Becky Jungling. Soloist Deb Essink sang “The Storm Passes By” and “Oh That Will Be Glory For Me.” Congregational Hymns were “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary Casketbearers were his great grandchildren, Ryleigh Schipper, Brayden Penning, Keaten Penning and Jaden Penning. Casketbearers were Ryan Schipper, Todd Schipper, Carrie Schipper, Dean Penning, Curtis Penning and Zach Morris. Flower Committee was Martha Johnson and Diletta Buseman. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Howard Claire Early

Howard Claire Early, age 78, of Cameron Park Ca. passed away February 25th, 2005 at his home after a long battle with lung cancer. Howard was the youngest of seven children of Vernon C. and Clara McNeillus Early, and was born on September 5, 1926 in Dumont Iowa. He received his elementary and high school education in Dumont. After graduation he joined the Army, and shortly after leaving the service he married Rachel Kramer. Howard and Rachel were blessed with two daughters, Nancy and Steve Morris and Lynn and Bob Koenigs, all of Cameron Park. There are five grandchildren, Jeremy Koenigs, Rebecca and Scott Armstrong, Ethan and Karri Koenigs, Emily and Ricky O’Neal and Sarah Koenigs. There are six great grandchildren; Payton, Aubrey, Lauren, Cameron, Ella and Isaac. Howard’s sister Maxine Lundien of Humboldt survives as well as brother Sydney and Alvena Early of Ackley, along with many nieces and nephews. Sisters Kathryn Essman, Margaret Ray and brothers Donald and T.M. Early predeceased Howard. Howard framed for a short time, and also worked as an electrician, moving to Temple City Ca. with his family in 1957. He worked for 30 years at his chosen profession, building elevators in many of the high-rise buildings of Los Angeles. He retired in 1986, later moving to his home in Cameron Park, east of Sacramento in the foothills of the Sierras. Services were held on Friday March 4 at the Green Valley Mortuary with internment in the Veteran’s Field section of the Green Valley cemetery. Howard left an indelible mark on his family with his great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed. Snowline Hospice was an incredible source of comfort for Howard and the family.


Don “Pat” Patrick Huber

Don “Pat” Patrick Huber, age 64, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Bernard and Mary May (Montgomery) Huber on May 29, 1940, in Waverly, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1959. Pat continued his education and graduated from Grinnell College and received his Master Degree in Journalism from Columbia University. On February 13, 1965, Pat was united in marriage with Silvia Silva in Brooklyn, New York. They made their home in Brooklyn and Pat worked for the Newsday Newspaper in Long Island. They moved to Miami, Florida for a time where he worked at the Miami Herald. They returned to New York prior to moving to Iowa. Pat and Silvia were divorced in 1978. He returned to Iowa where he took over running the family owned Huber Clothing Store in Clarksville. Pat owned and operated the News Paper in Postville, Iowa.

Pat was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville, where he had taught Sunday school and had just come back from a Mission trip to Latin America. Pat enjoyed woodworking, reading and enjoyed watching Hawkeye Basketball, especially with his mother when she was living. Pat died at his home on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pat is survived by his daughter, Heather (Maurice) Cogdell of Vienna, Va; and three grandchildren, Julia, Brendan and Luke. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March, 7, 2005 at the Community United Methodist Church, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Organist was Lola Clark. Congregational Hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Casketbearers were Steve Clark, Leland Metz, David Clark, Wayne Rohlwing, Kenneth Vance and Robert Borglum. Burial was in Interment Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Anna Lyn Souhrada, 16, of Allison, Iowa, passed away March 5, 2005, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born January 15, 1989, in Cresco, Iowa, to Todd Larry & Karen Leslie (Wright) Souhrada. Anna was a sophomore at North Butler High School in Greene, Iowa. She worked at Marians Cafe in Parkersburg. Anna was a member of Trinity Reformed Church and the Trinity Reformed Church Youth Group in Allison, Iowa. She was a wrestling and football cheerleader. She participated in school play, vocal and band. She enjoyed fishing and hunting with her family. Anna enjoyed shopping, music and spending time with her friends. Anna was a happy person and loved life. Her smile and cheerful personality was a blessing to her family and all that have known her. She loved her family, God and her friends. Anna was a great daughter and sister and she will be forever loved and missed by her family. She is survived by her parents Todd & Karen Souhrada of Allison, four sisters April Marie, Abby Jo, Aren Elizabeth and Alli Rae all of Allison; maternal grandmother Jo Wright of Kingman, Arizona; paternal grandparents Dalyn & Phyllis Souhrada of Lime Springs, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Anna is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother Mary Ellen Souhrada and maternal grandfather Robert R. Wright Jr. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Allison-Bristow Gymnasium with Rev. Steve Petroelje officiating. Lindsey Jo Harms, 15, of Clarksville, Iowa, passed away March 5, 2005, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. She was born August 18, 1989 in Waverly, Iowa to Allyn & Bev (DeBeer) Harms. Lindsey attended kindergarten through 8th grade at the Allison-Bristow School and was a freshman at North Butler High School in Greene, Iowa. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. Lindsey played volleyball, basketball and softball. She enjoyed her sports and dance. Lindsey was always known for her beautiful smile, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Lindsey is survived by her parents Allyn & Bev Harms and brother Brett of Clarksville; paternal grandparents Edward & Ann Harms of Aplington, maternal grandmother Dorothy DeBeer of Parkersburg; uncle Dennis & wife Sheila Harms of Aplington, aunt Janice Harms of Wichita, Kansas, aunt Diane & husband Rick Walker of Lockport, Illinois; cousins Valerie, Amanda and Ryan Harms, Sarah Sikkema, Nick, Mandi, Molly and Morgan Koenen and special friend Zack Merfeld. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Bruno DeBeer, and one cousin Stacia Sikkema. Simon Rindels

Simon Rindels, 94, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away March 6, 2005, at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa. Simon was born August 24, 1910, in Wellsburg, Iowa, to Reiner and Dena (Frey) Rindels. He attended several country schools. Simon was married to Lena VanHauen and to that union five children were born. The marriage later ended in divorce. Simon later married Lula Williams in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In his career Simon farmed near the communities of Allison, Readlyn and New Hampton. He later became a respected cattle buyer throughout the middle and western United States. Simon enjoyed raising pigeons and doves of which he won many trophies. He is survived by his wife Lula Rindels of Charles City, daughter Shirley Goebel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Myrna Taylor of Minnesota, sister Berdene Steer of Allison; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons: Wayne, Ray and Vern; three brothers: Jake, Edie and John, and one sister Martha Doeden. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison with Rev. Jeff Blank officiating. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Dale Rewerts, 53, of Allison, Iowa passed away March 4, 2005 at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA of natural causes. On July 24, 1951, Dennis was born the son of Cecil & Grace (Evers) Rewerts in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended schools in Shell Rock, Waverly and graduated from the Allison High School. On November 26, 1971 Dennis was married to Carol Smoot at Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation since 1973 in the Allison Shop. Dennis was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. He loved his family and his granddaughter Emy. He enjoyed working on his acreage, playing horseshoes and being outdoors. Survivors include his wife Carol Rewerts of Allison; daughter Jamie & husband Chad Osterbuhr and granddaughter Emy of Nevada; brother Jim & wife Susan Rewerts of Allison; sister Kathy & husband Steve Allan of Allison; mother & father-in-law Linus & Margaret Smoot of Allison; brother-in-law & sister-in-law Leon & Sheila Smoot of Allison and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison with Rev. Steve Petroelje officiating. Special music was provided by keyboardist Sandi Meinders accompanying the special music “Amazing Grace”. Paul Edwin Koenen, 61, of Bristow, Iowa, passed away February 28, 2005, due to injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in Wisconsin. Paul was born on August 18, 1943, in Aplington, Iowa, to Rev. Peter and Jennie (Ostendorf) Koenen. He graduated from Aplington High School. Paul was married to Judy Klooster at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington, Iowa, on August 14, 1964. Paul was a truck driver for the Shear Elevator in Bristow, Iowa. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison, Iowa, where he served as a Deacon. Paul enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, going hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Judy Koenen of Bristow; son Steve and wife Charlotte Koenen of Aplington, son Scott and wife Gina Koenen of Corona, California, daughter Shelly and husband Dave McGill of Mount Vernon, son Shawn and wife Milissa Koenen of Waterloo, son Seth Koenen of Cedar Falls, and daughter Stacia Koenen of Cedar Falls; sister Vera and husband Rev. Gerald Osland of Aplington, sister Inez and husband Bob Ketchum of Belmond, brother Wayne and wife Judy Koenen of Mankato, Minnesota, brother Justin and wife Elaine Koenen of Waterloo, sister Rita and husband Dick VandenOever of Goshen, Indiana, sister Alda and husband Don Frey of Allison, and brother Dennis Koenen of Aplington; seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Mandi, Molly, Morgan, Wyatt, Cade, and Camden. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother David. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison with Rev. Steve Petroelje officiating. Special music was provided by keyboardist, Sandi Meinders accompanying the congregational singing and special music “You Raise Me Up”. The flower committee were Greta Eberline, Jody Cordes and Delores Hoodjer. Pallbearers were Kirk Klooster, Evan Verrips, Tim Osland, Kurtis Koenen, Kevin Ketchum and Kendall Koenen. A Funeral Mass for Harold E. Shultz, 67, of 501 South Kentucky, Mason City, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greene, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating,. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greene, with military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268, American Legion of Greene. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene, where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church one hour before services on Saturday. Harold Edwin Shultz was born January 24, 1938 in Greene, Butler County, the third of five children born to John and Ruth (Newbern) Shultz. He graduated from the Greene High School in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Navy, September 6, 1956. He served with the Mobile Construction Battalion Seven. He was honorably discharged August 4, 1960. Harold was united in marriage to Annette Burgess at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on, July 21, 1963. To this union two children were born, Kent Joel and Craig Steven. Like his father and brother Jack, Harold worked at the Oliver Tractor Company in Charles City until his accident in 1969. From that time on, Harold resided in nursing homes in Knoxville and Mason City, where he remained, until the time of his death. Although he was unable to live with his family at home, he taught us many lessons about courage and life, and throughout, never lost his sense of humor. Harold’s greatest achievement in life was his loving presence in our lives as a friend, husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants and spending time with his family. Harold is survived by his loving wife Annette, Mason city; his sons and their families Kent (Sarah) Shultz , and their children Kaitlyn, Nolan, Mollie and Isaac, of Osage; Craig (Kelly) Shultz, and their children Isabel, Amelia and Truman of Chicago, IL; Two sisters: Barb Tarr of Phoenix, Shari (Donald) Holtzee of Peoria, AZ, one brother; Robert of Phoenix, AZ. Harold is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Shultz) Schipp, of Waverly; nephews: Gene (Patty) Shultz of Cedar Falls, Dan (Dixie) Shultz of Ramsey , MN, Jon (Diana) Holtzee of Chicago; nieces Paulette Shultz of Phoenix, and Jennifer (Dan) Draffkorn of Wadsworth, IL, and many great nieces and nephews. Harold is also survived by one aunt, Muriel (Newbern) Whitten of Staunton, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack Duane Shultz; and nephew, Robb Tarr. Fred Herman Bakker

Fred Herman Bakker, age 80, of Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown and formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born October 8, 1924, the son of Harm and Olga Ter Hark Bakker in German Township, Grundy County, near Austinville, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near his home. Fred entered the U.S. Army on January 18, 1946 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and served during World War II in Fort Brag, North Carolina; Fort Lewis and Fort Lawton, Washington. He was honorably discharged August 22, 1947. Fred was united in marriage with Johanna F. Bergman on February 21, 1959 in the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Johanna died March 30, 1977. He married Fern E. Carpenter Lockard on December 2, 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa. Fern died March 15, 2002. As a teenager, Fred worked on a farm. He worked on the road Maintenance Department in Grundy County for four years after getting out of the Army. After that, he was a trucker and farmed northeast of Aplington. He then went to work as a spray painter and supervisor for Waterloo Register in Cedar Falls for seven years. Fred was employed at United Hydraulics in Waverly and Hampton, retiring in 1975. Fred died Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives. Fred is survived by two step-daughters, Sharon Bouchard of Waterloo and Sandra (Michael) Miller of Omaha, Nebraska; one step-son, Dean Lockard of Waterloo, Iowa; four step-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Trudy) Bakker and Herman (Helen) Bakker of Aplington, Iowa and Marlyn (Renate) Bakker of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sisters, Alice Holm, New Hartford, Iowa; Grace Merfeld, West Des Moines, Iowa and Okelene (Edward) Heuer, Allison, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Clarence (Shirley) Bergman, Parkersburg, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Ruby Witt, Iowa Falls and 17 nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2005, at the First Congregational Church, Parkersburg, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Ron Bartlett, the organist was Jean Bass, vocalist, Tom Teeple sang “Where the Roses Never Fade” and “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling.” The Casketbearers were the Parkersburg American Legion Post #285 Members, with full Military Rites given by American Legion Post #285. Interment was at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements. Thomas H. Becker

Thomas H. Becker, 79, of Hansell, Iowa, passed away March 7, 2005, at the Hampton Care Center in Hampton, Iowa, of natural causes.He was born February 1, 1926, in Geneva, Iowa, to Frank and Ida (Dohlman) Becker. He graduated from the Hansell High school in May, 1944, and attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.Thomas married Dorothy Nelson on December 9, 1951 in Aredale, Iowa.He was a member of Hansell United Methodist Church and also a member of the Dumont American Legion. While dating Dorothy they enjoyed driving to the Surf Ballroom in one of his cars that frequently changed colors. After serving in the Air Force as a Pvt. 1st Class in WWII, he purchased the gas station in Hansell. Although he worked long hours he enjoyed taking trips to Canada to hunt bear, moose & wolves. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Teresa, he got his private pilot’s license and purchased a plane and went to many flight breakfasts in the area. He purchased two farms north of Hansell and continued to run the gas station and help at the farms as much as possible. Dorothy and Tom also loved to travel first with a seed corn company and then delivering new Winnebagos. His favorite destination was Alaska since he had taken a month long trip there in the early 70’s. After his mother’s health failed, he purchased her resort in Longville, Minnesota and ran the business for ten years. He loved to go to garage sales, and farm sales with his buddies and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his daughter Teresa & husband John Herold of Urbandale; three grandsons: Creed, Dirk and Grae Herold all of Urbandale; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, sisters Wanda Harlan, Ethel Boelkes, and Dorothy Burroughs. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m, Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Hansell United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Lee officiating. Burial was in the Ingham Twp. Cemetery, Hansell, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Darline Bangs, was born January 19, 1935 in rural Allison, a daughter of William and Nancy (Koopman) Bangs and died Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. She received her elementary education in the Jackson # 17 Country School and graduated from Greene High School in 1955. As a young lady Darline worked in nursing homes in MarbleRock, Charles City and Hampton. Darline will always be grateful to her son, Mike, for his faithful loving companionship and the care he provided for her. . Darlines was a fan of Elvis Presley and greatly enjoyed listening to his music and going for rides. She is survived by her son, Mike Smith, of Charles City; two brothers: Fred (Betty)Bangs, of Allison, and Robert Bangs address unknown. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Mabel Alene Hudson was born March 17, 1910, in rural Bennezette Township, Butler County, a daughter of Oscar J. And Leta A. (Lockwood) Hudson, and died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. She received her education in the Bennezette No. 3 Country School and the Aredale Public School. She was united in marriage to Walter E. Wilke on August 11, 1931 at her parents home in Aredale. They farmed in the rural Aredale until 1978 when they moved to Clear Lake. Alene was a faithful member of the Aredale United Methodist Church and played the organ for many years. After moving to Clear Lake she was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Her other interests included sewing, quilting, and flower gardening. Living family members include her son Eugene Wilke of Kansas City, MO, two sisters: June Stewart of Washington State, Wilma Hill of Clarksville; two brothers: Vernon “Mike” Hudson of Sheffield, Lowell Hudson of Dumont. Memorial services for Jean Nordmeyer, 64, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Ruby Jean Nordmeyer was born April 10, 1940, in Lynnville, Jasper County, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Hoyt and Grace Lenore (Fleener) Wildman, and died Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. She received her education in the Greene Public Schools graduating in 1958. She attended and graduated from Upper Iowa University at Fayette two years later. On January 25, 1963 she was united in marriage to Frederick W. Nordmeyer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Jean worked in the United Telephone Company office in Greene for several years, and later was church secretary for St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was librarian at the Greene Public Library for 23 years until her retirement. Music had always played an important part in Jean’s life. For many years she sang for weddings and funerals in the Greene area. She sang in the St. Peter Church Choir and the Greene Community Chorus. Jean was a member and Past President of the Mason City Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. In recent years she developed a love for gospel music. Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy, however, was being on the dance floor with Fred. She was baptized in April 1956 at the Lacey United Methodist Church in Lacy, Iowa and confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church on March 15, 1964. Living family members include her loving husband, Fred of Greene, three daughters: Susan Nordmeyer of Jacksonville, FL, Sally (George) Dixon of Charleston, SC, Sheri (Everett) Collins of Rock Hill, SC, two sons: Mitch “Hoyt” (Marge) Nordmeyer, Neal (Jacque) Nordmeyer all of Greene; ten grandchildren: Lydia Collins, Daniel Collins, Kristopher Bolhuis, Stacie Bolhuis, Whittney Nordmeyer, Seth Nordmeyer, Levi Nordmeyer, Landon Nordmeyer, Logan Nordmeyer, Layton Nordmeyer; a sister: Joni (Joe) Cochran of Searsboro, IA., and her step-father Jim(Marilyn) Nettleton of Greene Jean was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Judy Wildman. Laura Burch, age 87, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, formerly of Parkersburg and Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of George and Tena (Huisinga) Kramer on May 20, 1917, on her parent’s farm near Aplington, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1936. Laura Kramer was united in marriage with Harold Burch on April 30, 1942. Laura lived in Parkersburg while Harold served in the United States Army for the first five years of their marriage. Laura and Harold returned to farm near Aplington following Harold’s discharge from the Army. They then farmed between Aplington and Allison, and eventually farmed near Shell Rock. The family moved to Parkersburg when Harold became the town police officer. They later moved to other towns including; La Porte City, Vinton, where she worked as a police matron, Clarksville, Belle Plain and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Aplington in 1984 when Harold retired. Laura moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1998, to be closer to her family. Laura was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg. She was a loving farm wife, mother and homemaker. Laura was a very good cook and baker and her family always appreciated the meals she prepared for them. She also liked crocheting and doing embroidery. She enjoyed traveling with Harold to the Wisconsin Dells, Branson, Missouri and visiting her daughter and grandchildren in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Laura died on Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Metron Forest Hills Nursing Home, Grand Rapids, Michigan, from Parkinson Disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Burch in 1987; her parents, George and Tena Kramer; one brother, Clifford Kramer; and one sister, Irene Meyer. Laura is survived by one daughter, Delores (Robert) Mulder of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Jolynn Mulder; Kim (Joan) Mulder, Lauren and Spencer; Quentin (Cathy) Mulder, Colton, Rees, Grant and Davis; and Collin (JulieAnn) Mulder. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Anthony Bradseth officiating. Organist was Janet Johnson. A Duet of Marcia Allspach and Janet Johnson sang “No Disappointment in Heaven” and “Some Golden Day”. Congregational Hymn was “Beyond The Sunset”. Casketbearers were Kim Mulder, Quentin Mulder, Collin Mulder, Lyle Huisinga, Dennis Kramer and Wesley Huisinga. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
