INEZ IRENE JACKSON


September 26, 1925 - January 7, 2014

Inez Irene Jackson, 88, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa.

She was born September 26, 1925, in Bristow, Iowa, to Lewis Arthur and Henrietta (Dohlman) McKinney. Inez graduated from Bristow High School in Bristow, Iowa where she was valedictorian. She was united in marriage on September 15, 1944, in Bristow, Iowa, to Gerald Jackson.

Inez was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont and the Legion Auxiliary. Inez enjoye
d camping, bowling and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter Judith (Larry) Crooks of Rockwell, son Mervin (Wanda) Jackson of Gainesville, Florida, son Marvin (Fern) Jackson of Marion, sister Anna Marie (Lutjen) Beenken of Morrison, brother Kenneth "Casey" McKinney of Dumont, grandchildren Lori (Brian) Ayers, Carol (Dave) Clagett, Ryan (Cathy) Crooks, Heather Price, Meredith Smith, Christy Flores and Stacy Raisch and numerous great grandchildren.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and sister Koert, Lucille, Dutch, Ida Mae, Jim, Lew and Darlene.

Burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Bristow, Iowa

DONALD EDWARD ROTTINK

July 9, 1931 - January 21, 2014

Donald Edward Rottink, age 82, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born on July 9, 1931, in New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Harry and Marie (Aukes) Rottink.

He graduated from Allison High School in 1949. Donald enlisted in the United States Navy on January 9, 1951, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1954.

Donald was united in marriage with Johanna Wolters on December 21, 1955, in Grundy Center, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They started farming in the Allison area following their marriage and moved to Clarksville in 1963.

The couple later divorced. Donald was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in rural Clarksville, where he served as a past Trustee. He was a life-long member of the Clarksville AMVET’S as well. In his free time, he enjoyed fi shing, hunting, playing cards, tending to his flowers and having many pets over the years.

Donald was known to have a “green thumb” and the ability to grow anything. He tended to many fl ower beds and loved gardening as well, often sharing his produce with family. While farming was his primary occupation, he truly loved what he did and took pride in his livestock and crops.

Donald died on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Greg Rottink; one granddaughter, Taylor Rottink; one brother, Paul Rottink; one sister and brother-in-law, Marian (Duane G.) Miller.

Donald is survived by his three children, Linda (Robert) Cmelik of Waterloo, Iowa, Dennis (Dawn) Rottink of Clarksville, Iowa, Calvin (Connie) Rottink of Clarksville, Iowa; fi ve grandchildren, Nathan (Jenica) Cmelik, Amanda (Jeremy) Thompson, Kylie (fi ancé Gavin Steege) Rottink, Kolton Rottink and Matt (Danielle) Rottink; six greatgrandchildren; one brother, David (Shirley) Rottink of Clarksville, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Mamie Rottink of Allison, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Unity Presbyterian Church in rural Clarksville, with Pastor Christine Kaplunas offi ciating. Glenda Timmer accompanied those in attendance singing “Softly and Tenderly”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Amazing Grace”. Burial was held at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville with Kolton Rottink, Matt Rottink, Nathan Cmelik, Doug Miller, Garry Rottink and Jeff Rottink serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Amanda Thompson, Kylie Rottink, Austin Rottink, Addison Rottink, Loralei Cmelik, Milley Thompson, Ainsley Thompson and Marabeth Cmelik. HENRY ANDREW JOHNSON

December 29, 1929 - January 17, 2014

Henry Andrew Johnson, age 84, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Henry and Anna (Schipper) Johnson on December 29, 1929, on his parents farm in rural Aplington.

He attended Eleanor School in rural Butler County. Henry was in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.

On January 15, 1955, Henry married Eileen Bennewitz at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in rural Ackley, they then moved northwest of Aplington where they farmed. Henry was also a DeKalb Seed Corn dealer for 15 years. Henry and Eileen moved to Parkersburg in 1995 and Henry retired from farming in 2000. Henry was a faithful member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he served as the secretary of the church council. He was also a member of the Parkersburg American Legion.

Henry loved tractors including tractor pulls, antique tractors and tractor rides. His special tractor was the Oliver Super 99. His most enjoyable times were spent with his family, especially their family vacations.

Henry died Friday, January 17, 2014, at The Presbyterian Village in Ackley from natural causes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Nathan Keninger; two sisters, Johanna Kanniegeter and Esther Spain; two brothers, Harm and John Johnson and infant brother, Gerald Johnson.

Henry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen of Parkersburg; three children, Sheila (George) Gordon of Stewart, Tennessee, Doug (Kathy) Johnson of Aplington, and Regina (Landy) Calfee of Iowa Falls, Iowa; six grandchildren, Crissy Kentopp, Chad Hon, Sabrina (Taner) Mai, Tabitha Johnson, Holli (Dinesh) Keshwani and Trevor (Heidi) Keninger; nine great-grandchildren, Ariel, Lucas and Khloe Kentopp, Maya, Ava and Ella Keshwani, Payton Keninger, Ty and Tareya Neal; one brother, Lester (Martha) Johnson of Aplington; three sisters, Kathryn (John) Harms of Aplington, Ann Reinicke of Dike and Lois (Clyde) Glenn of St. Charles, Missouri; two brother-in-laws, Calvin Kanniegeter of Aplington and John Spain of Parkersburg; one sister-in law, Fannie Meyer of Parkersburg.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley with Pastor Dave Boogerd offi ciating. Leon Johnson presented the eulogy and Sis Ackerman accompanied those in attendance singing “Standing On The Promises” and “What A Day That Will Be”. Special music was provided by Randy Aalderks singing “O What A Savior” and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial was held in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, with Crissy Kentopp, Holli Keshwani, Chad Hon, Sabrina Mai, Tabitha Johnson, Trevor Keninger, Taner Mai and Taylor Buss serving as casket bearers. Nathan Keninger was an honorary casket bearer. Full Military Honors were conducted by the Parkersburg American Legion, Post #285. DARREL DEAN VAN ELLEN

August 18, 1942 - January 20, 2014

Darrel Dean Van Ellen, 71, of Waterloo, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo.

He was born August 18, 1942 in Aplington, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Annie (Buseman) Van Ellen.

Darrel served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and worked for thirty-fi ve years as a truck driver for John Deere & Company in Waterloo, retiring on December 31, 1998.

He was a member of Waterloo U.A.W. Local 838.

Survivors include his daughter, Holly Thovson, of Marshalltown, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kolten (Alex Johnson) Shultz of Dougherty, Iowa and Hannah (Trevor Schutte) Clark of Clinton, Iowa; a great grandchild, William “Little Fart” Schutte; two sisters, Marlene Vanderwerf of Parkersburg, Iowa and Donna Miller of Conrad, Iowa; his special friend, Carlyn Baugus, of Dike, Iowa, and family friend, Randy Wildeboer.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Van Ellen.

Services were held Friday, January 24, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Military honors were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com
