 JOSEPHINE STUKENBERG

 Josephine “Jo” Anderson Stukenberg, age 85, longtime Aplington resident, was born May 23, 1915, to David and Jennie (Reiter) Anderson in Dike, Iowa. They lived in the Dike vicinity where Jo graduated from Dike High School in 1933.

On September 11, 1935, she married Earl “Bud” Stukenberg at Nevada, Iowa. They farmed together for 43 years in the Parkersburg-Aplington area where they raised three children. Bud died unexpectedly in 1977. Jo continued to manage the farm rental and the rental homes until recently. Jo was baptized by the Rev. Frank Venenga on April 26, 1953, and was a member of the Aplington Baptist Church. She enjoyed home decorating, cards, board games, reading, sewing traveling, church involvement and particularly family activities.

Josephine “Jo” Stukenberg, age 85, died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Earl “Bud” Stukenberg; a granddaughter, Margo Kirsten Hegg; her parents; one brother, Frank Anderson; one sister, Ethel Abkes; and an infant sister, Annie Anderson.

Jo is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Ruth and G.G. Diers, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jana and Don Hegg, Billings, MT; one son and his wife, David and Ginger Stukenberg, Parkersburg, IA. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who are: Kurt (Paula) Diers, Alisse & Niklaus; Max (Rae) Diers, Jesse & Jarod all of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jana (Jack) Kovar & Christopher, Toddville, IA; and Carl (Michelle) Diers, Matthew & Allie, Norwich, NY; Carmen (Brad) Harbach, Ryan & Kelly, Gardiner, MT; Todd Hegg; Keith Hegg & Morgan, all of Billings, MT; Marni Kaduce & Eli, Kauai, HI; Cody Stukenberg, Tacoma, WA; Caleb and Jordan Stukenberg, Parkersburg, IA. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jo Stukenberg were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the Aplington Baptist Church in Aplington with Rev. Marlin Mohrman officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Becky Ostercamp accompanying the duet of Fritz Diers and Jana Kovar singing “Softly & Tenderly” and soloist, Ginger Stukenberg singing “In The Garden” and the congregational hymns of “In The Sweet By and By” and “Blessed Assurance.” Honorary casketbearers were Kurt & Paula Diers, Carl & Michelle Diers, Jana Kovar, Carmen Harbach, Marni Kaduce and Jordan Stukenberg. Casketbearers were Max Diers, Todd Hegg, Keith Hegg, Cody Stukenberg, Caleb Stukenberg and Brad Harbach.

Memorials may be directed towards the Aplington Baptist Church, 1003 Nash St., Aplington, Iowa 50604 or Bremer-Butler County Hospice, 207 - 20th St. NW, Waverly, Iowa 50677.  G. LOUISA BUSMA

 Louisa Busma, 84, of Allison, died May 14, 2001 at the Allison Care Center of natural causes. On October 14, 1916, Louisa was born the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Lursen) Cassmann in Butler County. She was educated in the Sunnybrooke Country School in Wilken County, Minnesota.

On January 30, 1941 she was united in marriage to Carl Busma in Kesley, Iowa. She was a homemaker all her life and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Greene. Louisa enjoyed crocheting, needlework, cooking, baking (especially pies), camping, fishing, gardening, and her flowers.

She is survived by one son: Wayne and wife, Vicky Busma of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Fern Busma of Allison; three brothers: LeRoy and wife Lucille Cassmann of Hampton, Henry and wife, Phyllis Cassmann of Manchester, and Harold and wife, Helen Cassmann of Allison; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Louisa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2001 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Greene with Pastor Rob Metras officiating. Special music was provided by pianist, Dian Hoelscher accompanying soloist, Lindsey Busma. Pallbearers were Ron Smith, Troy Busma, Trent Busma, LaVern Kluiter, David Cassmann and Dennis Cassmann. FLORENCE A. HAHN

 Florence A. Hahn, 89, of Dumont, died on May 17, 2001 at the Dumont Care Center of natural causes. On October 25, 1911, Florence was born the daughter of Frank and Mary Etta (Sherburne) Rector in Butler County. She was educated in the Yellow Country School and Hansell High School.

On February 14, 1939 she was united in marriage with Lee Hahn in Butler County and was a homemaker all her life. Florence was a member of the Bristow United Methodist church and a member of the Ladies Aide of the church. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, visiting with people while selling McNess products, traveling, driving, singing, knitting, sewing, reading, and was an outdoors person.

Survivors include two sisters: Helen Tjebkes and Dorothy Jackson, both of Allison and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Rector, husband Lee, brother Kenneth Rector and one sister Neva Schrage.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Bristow United Methodist Church with Revs. Robert Connor and Patti Connor officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying soloist, Mrs. Tom Wubbena. Pallbearers were Tom Van Ellen, Frank DeBerg, Tom Wubbena, Frank Benson, Dennis Lindeman and Meredith Steere. Final resting place was in Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow. FAUN FAY NYGAARD

 Faun Fay Fahr Nygaard, 89 was born May 12, 1912 west of Bristow. She was the daughter of Charles and Grace (Truex) Fahr. She received her education in the Bristow School, graduating in May 1930. Faun was baptized and became a member of the Church of Christ as a young girl, but transferred her membership to the First Reformed Church in 1980. Faun remained at home most of her young life assisting her folks with the farm work.

On March 28, 1952 she was married to Joseph C. Nygaard at the Little Brown Church. They continued to live with her folks caring for them in their later years. Her folks moved to a farm north of Bristow in March 1915 where she lived until March of 1976 when she and Joe moved to their home in Bristow. Joe passed away very suddenly in July 1979. Faun had a sister Carma Huff, a cousin Ruth Cuvelier, who lived with the Fahrs for 10 years, also Ruth’s brother, Lester Truex, who made his home with the Fahrs for several years.

She is survived by cousins Ruth Cuvelier of Dumont, Lester Truex of New Hartford, four nephews Roger Huff of Helena, Minnesota, O.C. Huff of Austin, Minnesota, Ward Huff of Caledonia, Minnesota, Marvin Huff of Kasson, Minnesota, and a niece Charlene Enerson of Austin, Minnesota and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe and a sister Carma Huff.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Bristow Reformed Church with Pastor John Helmus officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Melvin Mennen accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Ward Huff, Oscar Huff, Douglas Truex, Russell Truex, Earl Wiegmann and Bob Schneiderman. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Truex, Roger Huff and Marvin Huff. GERALD NETTLETON

 A Funeral Mass for Gerald Eugene “Gabby” Nettleton, 72, of Greene was held Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. Gerald Eugene Nettleton was born April 5, 1929, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of Louis and Katherine (Loughren) Nettleton, and died Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City after suffering a heart attack at his home. He received his education in the Greene Public Schools graduating in 1947. While in high school he excelled as a pitcher on the school’s baseball team. In later years he went on to manage several local teams. Gabby attended the Reisch World Wide Auction College in Mason City, graduating in 1952. During this time he also worked as an independent insurance agent in the Greene area.

On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Joan Marzen at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dougherty. They made their home in Greene. He later sold cars for Harrison’s Charles City Motors. In 1968 he became employed by the State of Iowa as a manager of the State Liquor Store in Greene. Upon it’s closing he worked for the Iowa Lottery Commission until his retirement in 1992. His interests included trout fishing in North East Iowa, the trailer he maintained in Dorchester, playing golf, and being an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene and served on the church board of education. He was a former member of the Moose and Knights of Columbus. Gabby will be remembered as one who was proud of his Irish ancestry and one who was proud to be a Democrat.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years Joan of Greene; two daughters: Brenda and her husband Jon Heuer of Allison, and Kathy Nettleton of Des Moines; four sons and their spouses: Mike and Dean Nettleton of Oakdale, Minnesota, Brian and Teresa Nettleton of Joice, Iowa, Pat and Susie Nettleton of St. Ansgar, and Tom Nettleton of Greene; eight grandchildren: Ethan, Rebecca, Rachel, Stephanie, Jonathon, Cassie, Brandon, and Nicholas; Three sisters and their spouses: Marge and Jim Mayer, and Jim and Eleanor Hebert, all of Marion, Iowa, Mary Ann and Jack Aurand of Maitland, Florida; and two brothers and their spouses: J. Clair and Evalyn Nettleton of Greene, and Jim and Marilyn Nettleton of Greene; and his Aunt Ceil Maxson of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother William; and an infant sister, Mary Aileen.

Celebrant of the Mass was performed by Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan. Participants in the Mass were Charles Stanton, Lector and Altar Servers Brian Castle, Jake Juhl and Joel O’Brien. Presentation of Gifts was by Marge Mayer, Eleanor Hebert and Mary Ann Aurand. Special music was provided by organist, Theresa Majewski accompanying the duet of Twyla Ring and Jack Reid singing “He Looked Beyond My Fault” and “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.” Casketbearers were Bruce Nettleton, John Anthony, Darlye “Taco” Daluge, Jim Fesenmeyer, Max Marzen and Sherman “Bud” Zea. Honorary casketbearers were Holon Bellows and Elmer Stock. Ushers were Robert Kepple and Jay Majewski. ROGER RAY STOCK

 Roger Ray Stock, 47, of Lake Mills, formerly of Greene was born on May 16, 1954, at the Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City, a son of Ivan Ray and Rachel Mae (Baldwin) Stock. Roger chose to end his life on Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the Worth County Jail in Northwood. He was baptized on December 15, 1954, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He received his education in the Greene Public Schools and as a teenager moved to Colorado where he attended Lakewood High School in Denver. He later enlisted in the United State Navy where he served on the USS Plymouth Rock. Upon his discharge he returned to Colorado where he was employed for the AMAX Mines in Leadville. He was later engaged in recycling and scrap metal in Washington and Colorado. In 1985 Roger met Adele Hylback in Everett, Washington, and shortly thereafter returned to Iowa where they made their home. Roger’s interests included his life long love of motorcycling, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Adele Hylback Stock of Lake Mills; one daughter: Rebecca Hylback of Ada, Oklahoma; two sons: Cory Hylback of Ada, Oklahoma, and Adam Brown of Denver, Colorado; his mother Rachel Vincent of Clarksville; two sisters: Brenda Miller of Lake Mills, and Shelly Dillon of Des Moines; three brothers: Randy Stock and Brian Stock, both of Denver, Colorado, and Dana Stock of Charles City; his step-mother, Margaret Stock of Greene; step-brother, Irvin Potter of Celina, Tennessee; and a step-sister, Dawn Sawyer of Elizabeth City North Carolina. He is also survived by his Aunt Darlene Keifer of Greene; Uncle Clair Baldwin of Marble Rock; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Stock; step-father, Robert Vincent; and brother, Craig Stock. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet of the United Methodist Church in Greene officiating. Honorary Escorts were Randy Stock, Brian Stock, Mike Keifer, Cory Hylback, Rachel Young and Basil Johnson. Private Interment was in Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.  CHERYL HERBST

 A Service of Remembrance entitled “A Gathering of Friends and Family of Cheryl Herbst” was held at 10:00 a.m. at Hill City High School Gymnasium on Saturday, May 12, 2001. Cheryl died on May 9, 2001 at Rapid City Regional Hospital Cancer Unit. Cheryl Heinemann was born July 4, 1950, to Axel and Mildred (Benson) Heinemann in Grand Island, Nebraska. She graduated from Dumont High School in 1968; from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in education and took elementary education graduate courses at the University of Iowa. Subsequently, Cheryl taught elementary education in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Hill City, South Dakota. She was an ardent advocate of children and education. Cheryl assisted with opening a preschool in Deadwood, South Dakota and instituted the Winter Youth for diabetic children at Outlaw Ranch near Custer. Cheryl was also a children’s book author. In 1971, Cheryl married John W. Herbst and together they had two wonderful children, Jennifer and Caleb. Survivors include her husband John of Keystone, South Dakota; daughter, Jennifer Vaughn and her husband Ryan of Rogers, Arkansas; son, Caleb of Keystone, South Dakota; her identical twin sister, Karyl Ruhde and her husband Craig of Waukee, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother and father. Inurnment will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory. Milton Neymeyer

DEATH NOTICE Private family Grave side Services for Milton Neymeyer, age 70, of Marshalltown, Iowa, were held on Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Milton died at 10:48 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, Iowa, of natural causes. Milton was born on August 2, 1930, Stout, Iowa, the son of Albertus and Anna Betten Neymeyer. Milton was a bookkeeper for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Angalyn Harms, and two infant brothers, Charles and Robert Neymeyer.
