Edwin Ellis Wygle

Edwin Ellis Wygle, age 64, of Ackley, Iowa, was born the son of Frank Sr. and Ruth (Allen) Wygle on March 10, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa. He received his education from the Waterloo and Charles City Schools. On July 25, 1959, Edwin was united in marriage with Karen Kay Chase at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Aplington for many years where they raised their six children. After working 37 years for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, Edwin retired and then he and Karen moved to Ackley. Edwin was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed bird watching and playing cards with family and friends. Edwin loved gardening and growing fruit trees. Spending time with grandchildren advising and story telling gave Edwin great pleasure. Edwin died Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of Abdominal Aortic Aneurism. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Wygle; his wife’s parents, James and Frances Chase, and three brothers, William, Frank and David Wygle. Edwin is survived by his wife, Karen Chase Wygle of Ackley, Iowa; his six children, Beverly (Larry) Cornelius of Parkersburg, Iowa, Sheryl (Maroy) Woodley of Aplington, Kenneth ( Vicky) Wygle of Aplington, Marjorie Wygle of Aplington, Iowa, Sally Wygle of Aplington and Amy Ackerson of Janesville; 17 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren; one sister, Dora (Jim) Frost of Ionia, Iowa; one brother, Steve (Karen) Wygle of Aiea, Hawaii; two uncles, Kenny (Rachel) Fuller of Bentonville, Arkansas and Carl (Betty) Fuller of Waterloo, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Shirley Wygle of Ionia, Iowa and Marlene Wygle of Charles City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2005, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home with interment in Lowell Cemetery, both in Clarksville, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Val Swinton of the Church of Christ, Clarksville. Special music was “The River” by Garth Brooks and “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Honorary Casketbearer was Tim Wygle. Casketbearers were Tony Wygle, Neal Wygle, Kevin Lockey, Dan Wygle, Lonnie Wygle and Charlie Mosher. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Aplington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.



Marjorie A. Courbat

Marjorie A. Courbat, 85, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, formerly of Allison, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, George F. Courbat. She is survived by her daughters, Dee McClain, and her husband, LeRoy, of Land O’ Lakes, Jeane Cannon and her husband, Lee, of Land O’ Lakes, Mary Laird and her husband, Bob, of Land O’ Lakes, and Carol Fort and her husband, Bob, of Fort Meade, Fla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Alice Johnson of Allison, Iowa. Mrs. Courbat retired after 25 years as a teacher at Sanders Memorial Elementary School in Land O’ Lakes. The graveside service took place 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade, Florida.

Robert C. Wieland

Robert C. Wieland, 88, of Clarksville, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Community Nursing Home, Clarksville, of natural causes. Bob was born on March 7, 1917 at Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of Walter and Inez (Sturch) Wieland. He attended country school near his home and following his formal education he helped his family on the farm. On September 2, 1941, he was united in marriage to Geneva A. Ingersoll in Bethany, Missouri. The couple then moved to Waverly and lived for a time on a farm before moving into town to their home by the fairgrounds. Bob began his trucking business which he owned and operated for many years, hauling mostly livestock, but would haul just about anything, from furniture to grain to hogs. After the children were raised Geneva rode with him on many, many trips. Bob retired in 1980 and he and Geneva just relaxed. Geneva died on October 13, 1989 and Bob sold their home and moved to the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Ken Yost of Shell Rock where he lived for the next two years. He purchased his home in Clarksville and in August of this year he became a resident of the Community Nursing Home. After moving to Clarksville he took in a room mate, Butch (affectionately nick-named “The Brown Bomber”) his small Chihuahua who would become his best friend. Bob and Geneva loved to dance and would spend many great trips around the dance floor at the Riviera in Janesville as well as other local dance halls. As a young man Bob also loved to box and even managed to wear a “shiner” to the altar when they were married. Bob had picked up the harmonica over the years and loved to play as Butch sang along. He is survived by his three children, Ken (Sheryl) Wieland of Chino Valley, AZ, Dixie (Ken) Yost of Shell Rock, IA, Ginger (Roger) Avery of Clarksville, IA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva; one son, Robert in 1958; his twin sisters, Mildred Fisher and Marie Rathbun; and two brothers, Walter and Harold “Johnny”. Harold Gordon Mason

Harold Gordon Mason, age 84, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Ward M. and Emma Catherine (Reedy) Mason on January 2, 1921, in Franklin County near Hampton, Iowa. He graduated from Hansell High School in 1940. Harold served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific as an evacuation medic during WWII. Harold was united in marriage with Velma Rose Price in 1943. To this union were born three children, twins that died in infancy and one daughter, Delores. Harold and Velma divorced in 1947. Harold was united in marriage with Gertrude Oldenburger on June 14, 1952, at the home of Paul Elliott. Harold and Gertie lived in Cedar Falls following their marriage. Harold worked as a custodian for UNI, Wartburg College and Allen Memorial Hospital. He also worked for the U.S. Post Office in Waterloo, Iowa. Harold retired from the post office in 1978, and Harold and Gertie moved back in Parkersburg. Harold was in fellowship with the Christians at the Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington. He was saved in the spring of 1945 at tent meetings held in Aredale. Harold died Monday, December 26, 2005, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, from natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Emma Mason, and infant twin children. Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertie Mason, Aplington, Iowa; one daughter, Delores ( Ray) Metzger, Manly, Iowa; one grandson, Bill (Kristi) Kingston, Rochester, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Maggi, Maddi, Joseph, and Riley; two sisters, Helen (Ecko) Mennen, Waterloo, Iowa, and Frances (Dilman) Stock, Monrow, Iowa. Graveside Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont, Iowa with Mr. Robert Orr officiating. Hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were Bill Kingston, Randy Stock, Henry Heron, Fred Miller, Dwayne Mason and Gaylen Brocka. Military Rites were provided by the Dumont American Legion Post #360. Interment was in the Dumont Cemetery, Dumont, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Edwin Charles “Cider” Seibert

Edwin Charles “Cider” Seibert, 91, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away December 27, 2005, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa of natural causes. He was born September 3, 1914, in Rolla, North Dakota, to Charles and Pearl (Hanawalt) Seibert. After his mother died when he was 7 years old, his father put him and his dog on the train to Dumont and was adopted by his uncle and aunt, Ed and Lillie Pencook. He graduated from the Aredale High School and was manager of the Aredale Elevator for 30 years. He married June Harper on February 20, 1935. Two children were born to this union, Barbara Jean and Duane Charles. After retiring from the elevator, Ed and June spent winters in Texas. He worked for Collins Construction in Dumont in the summers. Ed enjoyed helping others and hunting. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont. He unselfishly cared for June until her death in 2002. He was quite active until about a month ago when his lung cancer made his breathing difficult. He entered the Nursing Home on December 24, 2005. His parents preceded him in death as well as a brother, Donald Seibert, two sisters, Wava Lindstrom and Ruby Miller, and one half brother, Frank Seibert. He will be missed by his daughter, Barbara (Bob) Card from Dumont and his son Duane (Mary Lou) Seibert from Rudd. His 5 grandchildren, Debra (Mark) Gerdes from Aredale, Rick (Debbie) Card from Arkansas, Sherry (Bob) Fischer from Rockford, Tim (Cindy) Seibert from Burlington, Todd (Louise) Seibert from Rockford. His thirteen great grandchildren: Jodee and Maggie Gerdes, Amanda and Whitney Card; Kate, Tony, and Chris Fischer; Julie and Amy Seibert; Emily, Anna, Jake and Mike Seibert and his half sister Jean Johnson from Garrison, North Dakota. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the Aredale United Methodist Church with Pastor Terra Amundson officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Beryl Reed accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Rick Card, Tim Seibert, Tony Fischer, Jake Seibert, Chris Fischer, Todd Seibert and Mike Seibert. Finale resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Eleanor Fisher

Memorial Services will be held for Eleanor Fisher on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Eleanor was born in Clarksville March 1, 1918, the daughter of Hugh and Reba Boyd. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1935. Eleanor married Floyd Fisher in 1936; he preceded her in death. She passed away December 25, 2005, at the home of her daughter Becky Fisher in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Survivors include her daughter Becky Fisher, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; a son Hugh, Naperville, Illinois; a daughter-in-law Betty Fisher, and two grandsons Brian and Brent Fisher.


Lydia Schilling

Lydia Schilling, age 96 of Clarksville formerly of Plainfield passed away Thursday morning, December 29, 2005, at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville. Lydia Scheidecker was born October 17, 1909, in Butler County, rural Clarksville, the daughter of Michael and Katherina (Vetter) Scheidecker. She attended rural schools in Butler County. She was united in marriage to Louis G. Schilling August 28, 1930, at St. John’s United Church of Christ at rural Nashua. To this union two children were born. They farmed in Butler County and Lydia did all the things farm wives did for their family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She played the piano and sang, embroidered and crocheted in her leisure time. They retired in 1972 and moved to Plainfield where she lived until moving to Clarksville in August of 2003. Lydia became a resident of Community Nursing Home due to failing health. Lydia was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship Choir, and also the Birthday Club. Lydia is survived by one son, Frederick (Marlys) Schilling of Clarksville; one daughter, Sylvia (Lyle) Schafer of Greene; 7 grandchildren: Scott Schilling, Jennifer Neuendorf, Melissa Schneider, Calvin Schafer, Priscilla Schilling, Merlin Schafer and James Schafer; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson, Adrian; one brother-in-law, Edwin Schilling of Clarksville; four sisters-in-law: Laura Scheidecker, Edna Schilling, Ella Calease and Elsie Folkerts all of Clarksville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Schilling on October 8, 1999; her parents and nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at St. John’s United Church of Christ - Pleasant Hill rural Nashua with Pastor Charles Dorsey officiating. Mary Jo Stille was the organist accompanying the congregation singing, “How Great Thou Art”, “In The Garden” and “Beyond The Sunset”. Burial was in the Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield, with Scott Schilling, Jennifer Neuendorf, Melissa Schneider, Calvin Schafer, Priscilla Schilling, Merlin Schafer and James Schafer as casketbearers. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, was in charge of arrangements.

LaMena Vietta Dickman

LaMena Vietta Dickman, age 94, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born June 29, 1911, the daughter of William H. and Carrie M. Taylor Carney in Fredericksburg, Iowa. She graduated from Frederika High School in 1929. She loved playing the drums in the band and was a forward on the basketball team. LaMena was united in marriage with Fred (Fritz) Dickman, Sr. on August 26, 1930 in Waverly, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Pleasant Valley area northeast of Clarksville for 14 years. They purchased their own farm in 1943 and farmed west of Clarksville. Fred and LaMena retired to their home in Clarksville in 1973. LaMena helped out on the farm and liked raising her chickens. She did upholstery work and enjoyed sewing. LaMena was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville where she was active in the Dorcus Circle. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Clarksville. LaMena died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville where she had been a resident for five years. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Fred Dickman, Sr. on December 6, 1982; an infant daughter, Janice; four brothers, Clair, Burton, Melvin and Lowell Carney and six sisters, Bernice Sullivan, Leona Carney, Mildred Parson, Helen Heideman, Harriet Jensen and Grace Starr. She is survived by her two sons, Fritz (Marcia) Dickman, Clarksville, Iowa and Mark (Bev) Dickman, Clarksville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sally Carney, Cedar Falls, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Bill Starr, LaPorte City, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Laura Hucke officiating. Organist was Harriet Forry. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “In The Garden” and “Rock of Ages.” Casketbearers were Lon Dickman, Steven Dickman, Greg Dickman, Joe Dickman, Charley Dickman and Reginal Boyce. Honorary Casketbearer was Doug Dickman. Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Fayette C. Meyer

Fayette C. Meyer, age 94, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Schneiderman) Schrage on August 29, 1911, Grundy County, Wellsburg, Iowa. She was raised in the Wellsburg area until age 6 and attended school at Sinclair Country School near her home. She graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1929. On July 1, 1939, Fayette was united in marriage with Allen Dale Meyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in the Parkersburg and Sinclair, Iowa area. Fayette and her husband owned and operated the hog buying station at Sinclair for several years. Previous to that she worked at the Ford Garage and Kyhl Chevrolet. Through the years she primarily worked as a bookkeeper and was known for her beautiful handwriting. Fayette was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. She was also a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Parkersburg. She was a loving and caring daughter for her parents, especially in their aging years. Fayette died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen on September 24, 1996; four sisters, Lenora Welch, Mabel DeVries, Charlotte Neessen and Norma Froeming; and three brothers, Ernest Schrage, Henry Schrage and Robert Schrage. Fayette is survived by one brother, Thomas Schrage of New Hartford, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating. Organist was Janet Mennen. Congregational Hymns were “On Eagles Wings” and “In The Garden”. Honorary Casketbearers were Charles DeVries, Lee Schrage and Russell Schrage. Casketbearers were Eric Welch, James Schrage, Steve Groninga, Gene Pleggenkuhle John Smith and Gary Papenheim. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Bethel Lutheran Church or Maple Manor Care Center.
Arthur J. Siebrands

Arthur J. Siebrands, 88, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away January 7, 2006, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa. He was born August 10, 1917, in Kesley, Iowa, to Henry and Magalena (Meyer) Siebrands. Arthur attended Butler County rural country schools. He married Lela Miller on November 12, 1936, in Kesley, Iowa. Arthur was a farmer, drove school bus for the Dumont Community Schools for 14 years and worked at the Brandt Elevator in Kesley, Iowa. He was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church where he was active when he was able and served as an Elder in the church and also was a Sunday School Superintendent, he also enjoyed music. Arthur is survived by his wife Lela Siebrands of Dumont, son Jim & wife Dorothy Siebrands of Ackley, granddaughter Kimberly & husband Jeff Marchant of Indianola, granddaughter Kathy & husband Jason Schipper of Leighton, four great grandchildren: Blake & Austin Marchant of Indianola, Joseph & Adam Schipper of Leighton. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harm. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Bob Scholten officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Sheril Brodbeck accompanying soloist, Cheryl Scholton. Pallbearers were Alan Meyer, Bob Meyer, Otto Tjaden, George Reiners, Norman Burkett and Mike Thornburgh, Jr. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sena De Vries

Sena De Vries, age 84, of Aplington, Iowa, was born May 10, 1921, in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Malina Behrends Feckers. She received her education in various county schools in Grundy and Butler Counties. On June 5, 1942, Sena was united in marriage with Martin A. De Vries in Lancaster, Missouri. She was a homemaker and helped with farm work, living most of her life in the Dumont and Aplington areas. The couple moved to Aplington in 1975. In later years, they enjoyed spending winters in Phoenix, Arizona. She loved cooking and having friends over for meals. Sena trusted Christ as her personal Savior on December 2, 1955. She was in fellowship with the Christians at the Hitesville Gospel Hall ever since. Sena died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Presbyterian Village Ackley, Iowa where she had been a resident since February, 2004, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Martin De Vries on April 22, 1995; her parents; three sisters, Sena Feckers as a child, Grace Gersema, Margaret Smith; four brothers, Claus, Henry, Richard and Willie Feckers; and two half-brothers, George Gerdes and Dirk Feckers. Sena is survived by two brothers, Ralph Mehmen and his wife, Jeanette of Waverly, Iowa; and James Mehmen and his wife, Jan of Waverly, Iowa; One son, Gary (Phyllis) De Vries, Aplington, Iowa; one daughter, Ruth (Joe) Ahopelto, Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jason De Vries, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Arlene (Shannon) McRoberts, Hampton, Iowa; Rachel (Pat) Dunegan, Aplington, Iowa, and Timothy Ahopelto, Denver, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Ben, Sarah and JoAnna Dunegan, Aplington, and Katelyn McRoberts, Hampton; two step-great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Shaylin McRoberts; one brother, Fred (Minnie) Feckers, Clarksville, Iowa; one sister, Marie Arends, Tipton, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the Hitesville Gospel Hall, Aplington, Iowa with Mr. Robert Orr and Mr. John Slabaugh officiating. Congregational Hymns were “Blessed Assurance”, “It Is Well with My Soul” and “God Be With You”. Ushers were LaVern Kluiter and Kenny Tack. Casketbearers were Tom Christopherson, Larry Asche, Larry Brandt, Dallas Kluiter, Wes Sweiter and Earl DeVries. Flower Committee was Betty Williams and Dorothy Eltjes. Interment was in Hitesville Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Carrie B. Wedeking

Carrie B. Wedeking, 82, of Plainfield, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa. Carrie was born on January 5, 1924 in Koester, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bena Arenholz Mehmen. She attended school in Clarksville and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Alva Charles Wedeking on July 3, 1942 in Kirksville, Missouri. The couple farmed for 29 years west of Plainfield. Alva died on November 2, 1971, Carrie and her son continued farming for 2 years before moving into Plainfield. She lived in Plainfield for a few years and then moved to Waverly. She worked at Mode-O-Day in Waverly and also was a custodian at Southeast School for over 15 years. Following her retirement she moved back to Plainfield. She enjoyed going to sales at the 4-H building, coffee with her dear friends. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She really enjoyed her open house 80th birthday party. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainfield. Carrie is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Callison and her husband, Terry of Fridley, Minnesota; Janice Hyde and her husband, Bill of Plainfield, Iowa; one son, Dale Wedeking and his wife, Mary of Plainfield, Iowa; six grandchildren, Michael (Jessy) Hyde; Jason (Janel) Wedeking; Jolynn (Brian) Fisher; Stacy (Bud) Cleveland; Kelly Wedeking; Serene Callison; seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Mason and Abbie Hyde; Grant Wedeking; Elizabeth and Bailey Fisher; Riley Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alva, one son Jerry in infancy; two sisters, Gertrude Krull and Berdine Lierman; three grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Plainfield. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville. Funeral Mass for Clifford E Ross, 84, formerly of 602 North Bluff, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greene, with Rev. Msgr. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene, where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Clifford Eugene Ross was born August 27, 1921 in Iowa Falls, Hardin County, a son of Harry and Rebecca Ann (Butts) Ross and died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. He received his education in the Iowa Falls Public Schools and as a young man worked in a factory in Cedar Rapids prior to his entry in the United States Army on August 31, 1942. He served with the 193rd Finance Disbursing Section serving in the Pacific Theater. Following his Honorable Discharge on January 7, 1946 he moved to Greene where he was employed for S. D. Pooley Lumber Company for three years. He worked for Dan Feyereisen Plumbing for several years before he and Duane “Bucky” Trees purchased the business. In 1952 he became sole owner of the business. He retired in 2000. Cliff was united in marriage to Dorothy Margaret Esser on August 3, 1942, in Cartersville. To this union were born six children. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council. He served on the Greene Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, member of the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion, Greene Commercial Club, and the Round Grove Country Club. Cliff was an avid fisherman and golfer. Living family members include his children: Gene (Sandi) Ross of Greene, Gary (Sally) Ross of Rolla, MO, Bob Ross of Greene, Dennis (Mary Jane) Ross of Greene, Nancy (David) Boehmer of Waterloo, Susan Rath of Malakoff, TX; 19 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren; one brother of Wallace (June) Ross of Heinderson, NV. He was preceded in death by her his wife Dorothy on December 11, 1998, one great grandchild: Anthony Ross, and three sisters: Bonnie, Elaine, and Mary. Koert Ubben Freese

Koert Ubben Freese, age 89, of Aplington, Iowa, was born November 9, 1916, the son of Henry and Henrietta Dohlman Freese near Dumont in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near his home. Koert was united in marriage with Bertilda Miller on December 30, 1938, at Bethel Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa. The couple first lived in Aplington after their marriage then moved to a farm just north of Aplington. Koert and Bertilda farmed until 1956, when they moved back to town in Aplington. Koert then drove tank wagon for Farm Service. He retired in 1989. Koert was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, Aplington. He served on the Butler County Fair Board for several years and was past president of the Aplington Commercial Club. Koert and Bertilda enjoyed wintering in Texas, for over 20 years, and belonging to an Aplington campers club for more then 15 years. He loved bowling and competing in bowling league. He enjoyed fishing trips to Bass Lake in northern Minnesota with his family for over 50 years. Koert died Tuesday, January 11, 2006, at Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertilda on July 25, 2005; infant twin daughters; his parents; three half brothers, Francis, James and Lewis McKinney; and two half sisters, Ida Mae Jones and Darlene Murphy. Koert is survived by his foster daughter, Delores (Delbert) Miller, Aplington, Iowa, three grandchildren, Mike (Diane) Miller, St. Louis, Missouri, Shelly (Loren) Sherman, Parkersburg, Iowa, Mitch (Lisa) Miller, Jackson, Tennessee; five great grandchildren, Heather, Travis, Jordan, Reece and Jacob; one half brother, Kenneth McKinney, Dumont, Iowa; and three half sisters, Lucille Schadt, Wellman, Iowa, Inez Jackson, Dumont, Iowa, and Anna Marie Beenken, Marion, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Bethel Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Scott Summers officiating. Organist was Belva Schipper. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “After All” and “He Touched Me”. Congregational Hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Amazing Grace”. Casketbearers were Mike Miller, Paul Stubbe, Mitch Miller, James Miller, Loren Sherman and Rick Miller. Interment was in Bethel Reformed Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. LaMena Vietta Dickman

LaMena Vietta Dickman, age 94, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born June 29, 1911, the daughter of William H. and Carrie M. Taylor Carney in Fredericksburg, Iowa. She graduated from Frederika High School in 1929. She loved playing the drums in the band and was a forward on the basketball team. LaMena was united in marriage with Fred (Fritz) Dickman, Sr. on August 26, 1930 in Waverly, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Pleasant Valley area northeast of Clarksville for 14 years. They purchased their own farm in 1943 and farmed west of Clarksville. Fred and LaMena retired to their home in Clarksville in 1973. LaMena helped out on the farm and liked raising her chickens. She did upholstery work and enjoyed sewing. LaMena was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville where she was active in the Dorcus Circle. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Clarksville. LaMena died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville where she had been a resident for five years. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Fred Dickman, Sr. on December 6, 1982; an infant daughter, Janice; four brothers, Clair, Burton, Melvin and Lowell Carney and six sisters, Bernice Sullivan, Leona Carney, Mildred Parson, Helen Heideman, Harriet Jensen and Grace Starr. She is survived by her two sons, Fritz (Marcia) Dickman, Clarksville, Iowa and Mark (Bev) Dickman, Clarksville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sally Carney, Cedar Falls, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Bill Starr, LaPorte City, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Laura Hucke officiating. Organist was Harriet Forry. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “In The Garden” and “Rock of Ages.” Casketbearers were Lon Dickman, Steven Dickman, Greg Dickman, Joe Dickman, Charley Dickman and Reginal Boyce. Honorary Casketbearer was Doug Dickman. Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Verl Landers, 63, of 2 Greene, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Verl Landers was born September 2, 1942, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of Carl and Lorena (Heuer) Landers, and died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. He received his education in the rural Coldwater Township schools graduating from Greene High School in 1960. Following graduation he began working at T & M Service Station in Greene. He was united in marriage to Carol J. Monaghan on February 8, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. To this union were born two sons. Verl worked for Carnation in Waverly, and later farmed and raised hogs in the Aredale area. For the past seventeen years he was employed at Greene Ag Services where he remainined until his recent illness. He had a great love for the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed going coyote hunting and tending to his greyhounds. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Living family members include his loving wife of 41years, Carol, two sons: Scott Landers and Steve Landers all of Greene, three grandchildren: Trent, Tonya, Derek; his mother: Lorena Landers, one sister: LaDonna Schriver, and three brothers: Earl (Priscilla Landers, LaVern (Marlene) Landers, and Lyle (Marsha) Landers all of Greene. Sue Mayer Larkin passed away recently in Fort Collins, Colorado. Sue was raised near Clarksville and graduated in 1931 from Clarksville High School. Sue was employed as a secretary for several years with Attorney Harvey Carter in Clarksville. She then moved to Washington, D.C. where she was employed and married. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Larkin, Fort Collins, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Clara Mayer, Clarksville.


Loretta M. Copeland

Graveside services for Loretta M. Copeland, age 99, of Evanston, Illinois and formerly of Glenview, Illinois, were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2006 at Lowell Cemetery, rural Clarksville, Iowa. Officiating was Fr. Walter Brunken of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greene. She was born February 10, 1906 in Madison, Wisconsin. Loretta graduated from college and had been a homemaker. She was united in marriage with Leslie Copeland. Loretta died Sunday, January 15, 2006, at Presbyterian Home in Evanston, Illinois of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Copeland on April 5, 1996, and her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Ann Copeland. She is survived by a grandson, Eric (Claudia) Copeland, Coral Gables, Florida and Ross Copeland; great-grandchildren, Lara and Stefania and friends, Mae, Karin and Linda Tappendorf. Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home in Wilmette, Il was in charge of the arrangements in Illinois. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Homes, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements in Clarksville.


 

Henry “Hank” Bruns

Henry “Hank” Bruns, age 98, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born October 9, 1907, the son of Ben H. and Jennie Meyer Bruns, north of Aplington, Iowa in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education in a rural country school near his home. Henry was united in marriage with Ann Bohner on January 7, 1930 at Bethel Reformed Church, Kesley, Iowa. Ann died August 1, 1966. Henry married Susan Brocka Hall at the Community United Methodist Church on January 15, 1968. Susan died May 12, 2002. Henry was a farmer in Butler County in his early years. In 1951, he purchased Bruns DX service station in Clarksville, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville where he had served as an Elder on the Church Board. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. Henry died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Bohner and his second wife, Susan Hall; his parents; one granddaughter, Beva Wedeking Gilbert; three brothers, Paul, John and Jake and two sisters, Ruth Schipper and Gertie Debner. He is survived by his three daughters, Dorothy (Leo) Wedeking, Clarksville, Iowa; Jean (William “Bill”) Henning, Waverly, Iowa and Betty (Dennis) Whitney, Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-children; nine step-grandchildren; twenty step great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Norma Bruns, Allison. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Community United Methodist Church with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Anne Sunday . Organist was Lola Clark. Special Music was “The Lord’s Prayer” by Bill Henning. Congregational Hymns were “In the Garden”, “Child of the King” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Casketbearers were Kenny Debner, Bill Debner, Paul Bruns, Larry Schipper, Jim Bruns and Keith Bruns. Memorials may be sent to the family. David Jonathon Wiegmann

David Jonathon Wiegmann, age 58, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Wilbur Conrad and Harmina (Eilderts) Wiegmann on December 22, 1947, in Hampton, Iowa. He received his education from a rural country school near his home in rural Greene, Iowa, as a young child and graduated from the Allison-Bristow High School in 1966. Dave served in the United States Army from January 4, 1968 and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1969. He served overseas in Germany during the Vietnam War. Dave was united in marriage with Jann Buss on August 29, 1970, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. The couple lived their entire married life in Parkersburg. Dave worked at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, Iowa, at the time of retirement after 32 years. He retired in 1999. Dave proudly served as a Parkersburg Volunteer Fireman for 32 years. Dave was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and had served on the church council, delivered for Meals on Wheels for Parkersburg residents and also cared for the lawn at the church for many years. Dave was also a member of the Parkersburg American Legion Post #285 and enjoyed helping with their monthly breakfast. He was a proud veteran and was a life time member of the Aplington AMVETS. Dave loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to visit and cared about the people around the community. He enjoyed watching football and followed the career of his nephew. Throughout the years he enjoyed collecting all sorts of John Deere memorabilia. Dave passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Harmina; and one brother, Paul. Dave is survived by his wife, Jann of Parkersburg, IA; three daughters, Dawn of Waterloo, IA; Darcy (fiancé, Jim Dally) of Cedar Falls, IA and Dara (fiancé Brandon Dietz) of Waterloo, IA; three grandchildren, Dezireé, Delani and Dakota; one brother, Galen (Brenda) of Parkersburg, IA; a sister-in-law, Carla of Ackley, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating. Organist was Amy Truax and instrumentalist was Kevin Truax. Congregational Hymns were “Borning Cry”, “Lord Take Thy Hand” and “Amazing Grace”. Honorary Casketbearers were his Grandchildren and all of his nieces and nephews. Casketbearers were Casey Wiegmann, Todd Miller, Cody Wiegmann, Matt Miller, Nick Walters and Pat Miller. The Parkersburg Volunteer Firemen and the Grundy County Honor Guard presented David’s gear and Graveside Service. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa with Full Military Rites provided by the Parkersburg American Legion Post # 285. Memorials may be directed the family. Daisy A. Wickwire

Daisy A. Wickwire, 97, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away January 21, 2006, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. She was born February 23, 1908, in Franklin County, on a farm 2 miles West and 1/2 mile North of Aredale, Iowa, to Fred S. Davis and Lauretta (Howver) Davis. Daisy attended Aredale school in Aredale, Iowa. She was married to Lester E. Wickwire on February 9, 1929, at the Methodist Parsonage in Hampton. They lived near Ackley for one year before returning to the vicinity of Aredale until the death of her husband, then she moved to Dumont. Daisy belonged to card clubs, she enjoyed crocheting and word find puzzles and she was an avid reader. She is survived by her daughter Giula and husband Earl Schuler of Bondurant, son Leland and wife Evelyn Wickwire of Aredale, son Frederick Keith and wife YuVonda Wickwire of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and an infant grandson. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont with Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Phyllis Gronberg accompanying the congregational singing. The ushers were Charles Gronberg and Darwin Noelting. Pallbearers were David White, Rick Schuler, Matthew Wickwire, Chriss Vandehaar, Matthew Vandehaar and Andrew Vandehaar. Final resting place was in the Harlan Cemetery, rural Dumont. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
