Ruth Ann Cleary, age 98, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born April 29, 1906,
the daughter of Lars Peter and Ane´ Lise´ (Lizzie) Nelson Christopher in
Parkersburg, Iowa. Ruth was baptized in Parkersburg in 1908 and
confirmed in the First Congregational Church in 1920. She graduated from
Parkersburg High School in 1924. In 1925, she started school at Kahler
Nursing School in Rochester, Minnesota but returned home to help her
mother run her restaurant in Parkersburg. Ruth was united in marriage
with Edward William Cleary on June 22, 1931, at the home of her parents
in Parkersburg, Iowa. The couple lived their entire married life in
Parkersburg. Together with her mother, she owned and operated the
Christopher Café and Hotel until 1945. She cared for her mother in her
home from 1945 until 1970. Ruth was an active gardener who also enjoyed
her church work, crocheting and reading. She was a fan of crossword
puzzles and enjoyed keeping an accurate record of Oak Hill Cemetery. She
was a member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg since
1920. Ruth taught Sunday School in the church and was Sunday School
Superintendent for many years. Although unable to attend church in her
later years, she still maintained an active interest in her church and
enjoyed corresponding and visiting with church friends. She was a member
of the Ladies Guild and Missionary Society in church. She was a member
of the fraternal organization, Royal Neighbors in which she held the
office of Recorder. Ruth was also a member of Compass Chapter Order of
the Eastern Star in Parkersburg, which later affiliated with Cedar Falls
Chapter Number 78. Ruth died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Maple Manor
Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Edward on February 16, 1982; her parents; one
brother, Morris Peter Christopher and a half-sister, Eva Bahr. Ruth is
survived by two sons, Charles (Janice) Cleary, Parkersburg, Iowa; and
John (Karen) Cleary, Ackley, Iowa; one daughter, Margaret (Harlan)
Schuck, Parkersburg, Iowa; five grandchildren, Lynne (Dennis) Mulder,
David (Kristi) Cleary, Wendy (Bill) Fredericks, Jeff (Denise) Iverson
and Kirk Iverson; and eight great-grandchildren, Brett and Aaron Mulder,
Landon and Adyson Cleary, Matthew and Mason Fredericks and Jordan and
Madelyn Iverson. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday,
January 22, 2005 at the First Congregational Church, Parkersburg, Iowa
with Rev. Ron Bartlett officiating. Organist was Mary Ann Simon.
Vocalists Russ and Mary Meyer sang “Well Done Faithful Servant.” Jeff
Iverson sang “Precious Memories”. Congregational Hymns were “In The
Garden” and “It Is Well With My Soul”. Casketbearers were Dennis Mulder,
David Cleary, Jeff Iverson, Kirk Iverson, John Wilmer and Gary Hinders.
Honorary Casketbearers were Berneita Neubauer, Albertha Hoffman, Kathryn
Card and Gertie Jans. Flower Committee was Sharri Claassen, Jackie
Wildeboer and Freda Wallbaum. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery,
Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in

Scott Alan Feldman

Scott Alan Feldman, age 43, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of
Kenneth and Janice Smith Feldman on August 31, 1961 in Charles City,
Iowa. He attended Plainfield Community School where he graduated in
1979. After starting college at Iowa State University, he decided to
instead, pursue his love of farming. Scott was united in marriage with
Renee Niehaus on July 24, 1982 in Clarksville, Iowa. The couple made
their home in rural Clarksville where he enjoyed a 13-year dedication to
farming and milking Holsteins. He also worked for Jungling Farms,
Eaton’s Corp, went back to Iowa State University and his current
business with his wife, R & S Antiques. He was a member of Pleasant
Valley United Church of Christ, rural Clarksville. His defining
characteristics were his ability to problem solve, his compassion for
people, his sense of humor and his acute ability to stay abreast of news
and current events. He used these skills to meet people and to build
relationships with others throughout his lifetime. Scott was gifted with
his hands and this showed in his perfection of home remodeling and
mechanics. Scott enjoyed collecting toy tractors, trading antiques,
camping, farming, movies, supporting the Cyclones, working with his
hands and most of all, spending time with Renee and attending his son’s
activities and watching them grow up. Scott died suddenly on Friday,
January 21, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, Iowa. He was
preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Feldman; his maternal
grandparents, Dorothy and Thomas Smith of Nashua and his paternal
grandparents, Marian and Fred Feldman of Greene. He is survived by his
wife, Renee Feldman, Clarksville, Iowa; three sons, Dustin Feldman,
Pella, Iowa; Alex Feldman and Derek Feldman at home; his mother, Janice
Feldman, Nashua, Iowa; one brother, Tracy Feldman, Little Rock,
Arkansas; three sisters, Connie (Dave) Edson, Nashua, Iowa; Jill
(Thomas) Henderson, Columbia, Maryland and Cindy Feldman, Des Moines,
Iowa; and his nieces and nephews, Theresa, Suzanne and Andrew Edson and
Drew, Shane and Timothy Henderson. Funeral Services were held at 10:30
a.m., Monday January 24, 2005, at the First United Church of Christ,
Pleasant Valley, rural Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor Charles L. Dorsey
officiating. Organist Roberta Nieman accompanied Congregational Hymns
“Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers
were Scott Schilling, Mike Feldman, Jay Mittag, Randy Wilken, Bob
Lindner, Kelly Smith, Kevin Smith and Bryan Mehman. Burial was in
Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home,

A. Epple, 82, of Grants Pass died Friday, January 28, 2005, at his home
. Formerly of Hampton, Iowa.He was born June 21, 1922 in St. Ansgar,
Iowa. He worked on the family farm and worked as an auto and tractor
mechanic during winter months. At the end of World War II, he enlisted
in the U.S. Army and served until May 4, 1947. On June 26, 1950 in
Waterloo, Iowa, he married Lois Meyer, who servives. They moved to
Grants Pass from Dumont, Iowa in !984. He was a body man and windshield
installer for Indian Creek Auto Dismantlers until his retirement in
June, 2004. Epple was a member of the Grants Pass Gospel Hall. He had
been a member of the American Legion in Dumont. He was an expert
fisherman. He enjoyed working and the annual family reunion in Iowa. In
addition to his wife of 54 years, survivors include two sons: Duane and
Dennis Epple, both of Grants Pass; two daughters: Diana Epple of
Darlington, S.C. and Bernice Williams of Virginia; three sisters:
Kathleen Harms of Muscoda, Wisconsin, Barbara Swieter of Hampton, and
Lois Novak of Highland, Wisconsin; one brother, Orrie Epple of Aredale,
Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will
be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Hitesville
Gospel Hall in rural Aplington, IA. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7
p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont, IA. Burial will be in
the Hitesville Gospel Hall Cemetery. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in
Dumont is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Tena Sherburne

Wilma Tena Sherburne, age 91, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and formerly of
Clarksville, Iowa, was born September 23, 1913, the daughter of John
Robert and Tena Smith Zieman in Meservey, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.
She attended rural schools near Meservey, Rockwell and Rockford and
graduated from Rockford High School in 1934. Wilma was united in
marriage with Harold Sherburne on February 12, 1950 at the Wesleyan
Methodist Church in Charles City, Iowa. To this union were born three
sons and one daughter. They made their home in Waverly until moving to
Clarksville in 1956. After her husband’s death on October 27, 1993,
Wilma made her home with her children for several years until making her
permanent home with her daughter in Oklahoma City. On September 7, 2004,
Wilma became a resident of Quail Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Clarksville
until it closed, then was a charter member of Cornerstone Church of the
Nazarene in Waverly. Wilma will be remembered for her fondness of
cooking, baking, scrapbook making, flower gardening and her love for her
family. Wilma died Sunday, January 23, 2005, at the Deaconess Hospital
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, of natural causes. Wilma was preceded in
death by her husband, Harold; her parents; one brother, Lloyd Zieman;
one sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Paul Grube. She is survived by
three sons, Gerald (Karen) Sherburne, Lakewood, California; Harold
Sherburne, Long Beach, California; Roger (Deb) Sherburne, Clarksville,
Iowa; one daughter, Alice (Danny) Bolding, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
three grandchildren, Mark (Jari) Sherburne, Allison, Iowa; Dustin
(Julie) Sherburne, Waverly, Iowa and Melissa Sherburne, Cedar Falls,
Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Sage and Wiley Sherburne, Allison; one
brother, Earl (Edna) Zieman, Rockford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Janet Zieman,
Rockford, Iowa; brother-in-law, Floyd (Florence) Sherburne, Gutherie
Center, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bob Forry, Clarksville, Iowa;

Don Roose

Don Roose, Sr., age 75, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 of
complications from cancer at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of Des
Moines. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29 at St. James
Lutheran Church in Allison. Mr. Roose was born July 11, 1929 in rural
Butler County to George and Mary (Frericks) Roose. He graduated from
Allison High School and attended Northern Iowa Teachers’ College. He
married Faith Harms on June 20, 1949. They lived in rural Butler County
where he farmed, raised and professionally showed cattle and horses. In
his early years, he was in the car and bottle-gas business. In the
midyears of his life he managed a cattle operation in Illinois. In
Allison he owned and managed a restaurant and was also an auctioneer. He
was a member of the Iowa and National Cattlemen’s Association, American
Quarter Horse Association, corn and soybean association He is survived
by his wife, Faith of Allison; 3 sons, Donald L. Jr., Urbandale, IA;
James L., Clarksville, IA and Jason M., Des Moines, IA; 3 daughters,
Jacquelin F. Murphy, West Liberty, IA; Jayne Roose Staudt, Colleyville,
TX; and Jennifer Roose Christophersen, Iowa City, IA; 8 grandchildren,
and 2 great-grandchildren, also 2 brothers, Lyle (Mick) Roose,
Clarksville, IA and George (G.G.) Roose, Allison, IA ; and his sister
Marion Pullin, Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents,
infant brother Danny, sister Viola Coonley, and brother Stanley Roose.
Interment was at Allison Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St.

Grace
Lena Rewerts, age 87, of Allison Health Care Center and formerly of
Parkersburg, Iowa, was born April 1, 1917, the daughter of Ed and Grace
Buss Rewerts near Dike in rural Grundy County, Iowa. She received her
education in a rural school near her home. Grace spent her life helping
on the family farm where she enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She
also enjoyed doing needlework. Grace looked forward to having the nieces
and nephews come to her home where she would sit on the floor and play
with the little ones. Grace loved to have family give her pictures which
she would display for all to see. Grace was a charter member of Faith
Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. She moved into the Allison Health Care
Center on October 22, 2004. Grace died Monday, January 31, 2005 at the
Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa, of natural causes. She was
preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers, Richard,
Clarence and Wilbur Rewerts. She is survived by one brother, Edward
Rewerts, Parkersburg, Iowa one sister-in-law, Lydia Rewerts, Waterloo,
Iowa and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services were held at
1:30 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Faith Lutheran Church,
Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Daniel J. Larson officiating. Organist was
Bernita Nicklaus. Congregational Hymns were “Just As I Am” and
“Beautiful Savior”. Casketbearers were Merle Witte, Dennis Hartema, Bob

Dorothy Mehmen VanRaden Haan, 77, of Allison, Iowa passed away on
Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
Dorothy was born on July 30, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Sophia (Bulthuis)
Collings in Gilman, Iowa. She attended grade school in Morrison and
graduated from high school in Reinbeck. On December 22, 1945, she was
united in marriage to Raymond G. Mehmen in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On March
19, 1976 she was united in marriage to Lester VanRaden in Nashua, Iowa
and on June 6, 1992, she was united in marriage to Art Haan in Allison,
Iowa. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, shopping, sewing and crocheting, most
especially, spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors are her four
children and their spouses, Steve (Terri) Mehmen of Nashua, Iowa, Diane
(Charlie) Feldt of Osage, Iowa, Daleth (Dale) Pothast of Allison, Iowa
and Stan (Karmen) Mehmen of Plainfield, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 5 great
grandchildren; brother, Arthur (Betty) Collings of Parkersburg, Iowa;
three sisters, Mildred Hayes of Dike, Iowa, Marjorie (Bud) Patterson of
Cedar Falls, Iowa and Vera (Otis) Boyd of Davenport, Iowa. She was
preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Raymond, Lester and
Art; and by a sister, Ruth Chamberlain. Funeral services were held on
Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church in
Allison with Pastors Jeffrey Blank and Keith Tomlinson officiating.
Burial was in the Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa. A memorial
fund in Dorothy’s name will be established at a later date.
Max H. Wegand

Funeral services for Max H. Wegand, 78, of Greene, were held Thursday,
February 3, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor
Ashok Patet officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene
with military honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion
of Greene. A public Masonic Service was conducted by Vulcan Lodge 498 A.
F. & A. M. of Bristow. Max Harold Wegand was born October 13, 1926, on
the Wegand home place, a son of Clyde Hardman and Edna Mae (Lockwood)
Wegand, and died January 31, 2005 completing his circle of life, at the
place where he was born. He received his education in the Greene Public
Schools graduating in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Navy on
October 6, 1944 and served as a Hospital Apprentice Second Class at the
U.S. Navy Hospital in Farragut, Idaho. Following his honorable discharge
on June 21, 1946, he returned to Greene where he began farming on the
home place. During this time he supplemented his income by working
various places including Thermogas, Greene Limestone, and Greene Farm
Equipment. On May 11, 1951, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann
Potter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in
Greene and to this union were born four children. In 1970 Max became a
Standard Oil Agent when he purchased a tank wagon oil business from Jim
McLennan, which he operated until his retirement in 1994. Max enjoyed
twenty-four years as a businessman in Greene and loved working with the
people he served. Max was stricken with Parkinson’s Disease in 1995-96,
but continued to remain active until 2002, when the disease progressed
rendering him unable to do the many things he enjoyed. He was a life
long member of the United Methodist Church in Greene, Past Master of
Alpha Lodge 326 A. F. & A. M., Past Worthy Patron of May Day Chapter
O.E.S., 50 year member of Vulcan Lodge 498 A. F. & A. M., Past President
of the Round Grove Golf & Country Club, member of the Greene Commercial
Club and the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Max had a
firm faith in God which led him to focus his life around a hard work
ethic, family and friends. He was very proud of his family and of living
on the family owned Century Farm. Max took great care of the farm and
was especially proud of his yard. He will be sadly missed by his loving
wife Patricia Ann of Greene; his children: Dan (Jan) Wegand of Glen
Rose, TX, Ann (Terry) Thomason of Greene, Bob (Nancy) Wegand of Grundy
Center, Jean (Bob) Fox of West Des Moines; ten grandchildren: Alison and
Zak Wegand, Matt (Jamie) Jackson and Melissa Jackson, Christopher (Lupe)
Thomason, Sara (Dan) Marsh, Patrick (Kelly) Thomason, Andrew, Ben, and
Mollie Fox; five great grandchildren: Cortlynn Jackson, Timothy
Thomason, Paige, Claire, Lauren Marsh; two sisters: Mary Lou (Keith)
Hadley of Charles City, Barbara (Jim) McKay of Spencer, two
brothers-in-law: Mike (Margaret) Potter of Minneapolis, Jim (Jackie)
Speedling of Bend, OR; many nieces, nephews, and extend family members.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law:

Annette Sessler

Annette Sessler, age 74, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of
Jake and Emma (Hinders) DeGroote on May 4, 1930, at home in the
Parkersburg, Iowa area. She received her education from a rural country
school in Butler County, Iowa. On June 4, 1955, Annette DeGroote was
united in marriage with Rudy Henning in Canton, South Dakota. They made
their home on a farm west of Clarksville where they had a custom
trucking business; she took great pride in being a truck driver. Annette
also drove school bus for Clarksville for 10 years and later worked at
the Dumont Nursing Home. Annette was a member of the Dumont Reformed
Church, Dumont, Iowa. She enjoyed going fishing and knitting, but most
of all liked visiting with family and friends whenever possible. She
also volunteered with Hospice and was a Senior Citizen Volunteer.
Annette died at the Waverly Health Care Center, Waverly, Iowa, on
Thursday, January 27, 2005, of natural causes. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Rudy Henning in 1973; a son, Roger Henning in 1992; her
parents, a sister, Hilda; and three brothers, Clarence, Hank and Walter
DeGroote. Annette is survived by one son, Rudy (Jill) Henning of
Clarksville, IA; four daughters, Kathy (Bob) Hicken of Dumont, IA, Patty
(John) Severs of Dumont, IA, Joan Wenzel of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Sis
Henning of Clarksville, IA; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren;
one brother Jake (Donna) DeGroote of Bristow, IA; five sisters, Anna
Bartel of Herman, MN, Dorothy Jans of Clarksville, IA, Darlene (Frank)
Vance of Clarksville, IA, Ruth Bushing of Clarksville, IA, and Alice
(Jim) Jacobs of Allison, IA; and one sister-in-law, Dottie DeGroote of
California. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 31,
2005 at the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa with Rev. Robert
Scholten officiating. Organist was Jim Siebands. Vocalist Kathy Huisman

Richard Henry Johnson

Richard Henry Johnson, age 83, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born August 19,
1921, the son of George and Etta Rieken Johnson on the family farm near
Parkersburg, Iowa. He received his education in Parkersburg. Richard was
united in marriage with Julia Grace Kromminga on May 1, 1944 in the
parsonage of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. He farmed
until 1960 at which time he went to work for Harken Implement and then
DeBoer Implement in Aplington. In 1966, he started to drive a LP gas
truck and did service work until his retirement at age 65 and continued
to work part time. Richard was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in
Parkersburg where he was a Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday
School teacher for over 25 years. He also served on the church council.
Richard died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice
Home in Waterloo, Iowa, of cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife
of 60 years, Julia Johnson on January 15, 2004; his parents; three
brothers, Edward, Harold and Clarence Johnson and one sister, Johanna
Wubbena. He is survived by two daughters, Judy Schoenbeck, Parkersburg,
Iowa and Rhonda Johnson (Dale Kuecker), Tripoli, Iowa; two
grandchildren, Shelly (Rich) Olsson, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Jeremiah
Saul, Parkersburg, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Dana Schoenbeck,
Rich Olsson III and Hunter Saul; six step-grandchildren, Justin,
Michael, Samuel, Kevin, Brittany and Jonathan Kuecker; one brother,
George (Eileen) Johnson, Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, Anna Oltmann,
Allison, Iowa and Henrietta (Lawrence) Schrage, Parkersburg, Iowa; one

Hubbard sang “Day By Day.” Congregational Hymns were “Crown Him With
Many Crowns” and “Abide With Me.” Casketbearers were Neal Schrage,
Randal Johnson, Mark DeBoer, Lee Buseman, Arlen Kromminga and Jim Harken.
Honorary Casketbearers were John Maitland, Ronnie DeBoer, Kenny Dralle
and Harm Hemmen. Flower Committee was Kathryn Karsjen, and Irma Schipper.

LaVern J. Miller, 82, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away February 1, 2005, at

Butler County, Iowa, to John & Linnie (Marty) Miller. LaVern attended
Butler County country school. On April 2, 1941, LaVern married Dorothy
Porter in Mason City, Iowa. He worked as a farmer. LaVern was a member
of New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, and was on the Farmer’s
Co-op Board for two years.He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and
going to dances with Dorothy. LaVern is survived by his wife Dorothy
Miller of Dumont; two daughters: Judy and husband Lurlin Schermer of
Charles City and Dixie and husband Larry Stayner of Prairie City; son
Russell and wife Pamela Miller of Hampton, eleven grandchildren and nine
great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, half
brother, and one grandson. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.,
Friday February 4, 2005 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in
Dumont with Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Special music was provided
by organist, Mrs. Beryl Reed and Francis Winkowitsch. Ushers were Robert
Barber and Harold Reents. Pallbearers were Mike Schermer, Matt Lee,
Steven Miller, Monty Miller, Nathan Miller, Jeremy Stayner and Jesse
Stayner. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Loal P. Blunt

Loal P. Blunt, 86, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Saturday, February 12,
2005, at his home. Loal was born on September 17, 1918, in Snicarte,
Illinois, the son of P.H. and Mabel (Megginson) Blunt. Loal attended
school in numerous communities and later graduated from Oskaloosa High
School in 1936. He then attended William Penn College for 2 years.
Following his schooling, Loal worked for numerous grocery stores. On
June 12, 1940, Loal was united in marriage to Lucille Hunter at the
First Baptist Church in Shell Rock. The couple made their home in
several communities before they made their permanent home in Shell Rock.
Loal spent many years working for Shield Bantam, Loal’s AG (the grocery
store Loal and Lucille owned and operated), and he later sold insurance
for Life Investors Insurance Company until retiring at the age of 80.
Loal was a member of First Baptist Church in Shell Rock where he was a
long time Deacon and Sunday school teacher, former Lions Club member and
an active community leader. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling,
visiting with friends and neighbors, and especially spending time with
his family. Loal is survived by his wife, Lucille of Shell Rock; his
four children, Adaline Peterson of Waterloo, Linda Hoyer and her husband
Ron of Bettendorf, Jerome Blunt of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Joann
Blunt of East Lansing, Michigan; four grandchildren, Matthew & Angela
Peterson of Kansas City, Missouri, Melissa & Jim Munro of Boulder,
Colorado, Benjamin & Jessica Hoyer of Briarcliff Manor, New York,
Jeffrey & Michelle Blunt of Wyoming, Michigan; 4 great grandchildren,
Savannah Peterson, Madisen Blunt, Julia and Zachary Hoyer; 2 sisters,
Anna White of Newton, Mildred Lipp of Gerlaw, Illinois; one brother,
Bill Blunt of Washington State; and by one sister-in-law, Shirley Blunt
of Ft. Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3
brothers, Harold, Harry and Kenneth Blunt; and by one sister, Lena Mae
Blunt. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at
1:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church, Shell Rock, with Pastor Robert
Chambers officiating. Burial was in in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Marie Lillian Heine

Marie Lillian Heine, age 80, of Ackley and formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa
was born August 18, 1924, the daughter of William and Minnie Kneppe Fank
on her parent’s farm near Parkersburg in rural Butler County, Iowa. She
graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Iowa Teachers
College for one year. Marie was united in marriage with Raymond Heine on
June 21, 1946 in the Congregational Church. The couple made their home
for a few years on a farm in the Pleasant Valley community near
Clarksville, Iowa. They moved south of Parkersburg and farmed until
moving into Parkersburg in 1958 where they lived the rest of their
lives. Marie worked for Dale Hassman, Ken’s Feed & Supply and Johnson
Plumbing and Heating as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the
Congregational Church in Parkersburg where she taught Sunday School and
was a member of the Ladies Guild. She wrote cards to church members who
needed support and was a teacher for the junior high girls Sunday School
class. She kept busy with her children and her grandchildren’s
activities and events. Marie was known to be an immaculate housekeeper.
She loved to play table games and spend time with her family. She had
kept a daily diary and filled many books in the process. Her church and
family were her life and she had a deep concern for their well-being.
Marie died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Presbyterian Village of
Ackley, in Ackley, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by
her husband of 55 years, Raymond, on December 27, 2001; her parents and
one brother, Billie Fank. Marie is survived by one son, Lee (Nadene)
Heine, Hillsboro, Wisconsin; one daughter, Linda (Arnie) Luiken,
Steamboat Rock, Iowa; one brother, Bennie (Frances) Fank, seven
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Funeral Services were held
at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the First Congregational
Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Ron Bartlett officiating. Organist
was Mary Ann Simon. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “In My
Heart There Rings a Melody” and “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary

Herman Rivert Rewerts

Herman Rivert Rewerts, age 85, of Parkersburg, Iowa was born November
11, 1919, the son of Leonard and Bessie Diekman Rewerts south of Dumont
in Butler County, Iowa. He was raised in a farm west of Kesley where he
received his education in a rural school in Madison Township. Herman
received his Christian education in Washington Reformed Church northeast
of Ackley, Iowa. On September 25, 1942, Herman entered the United States
Army, during World War II and served in the South Pacific area. He was
honorably discharged on November 30, 1945, after 3 ½ years of service.
Herman was united in marriage with Marjorie Berends on February 21, 1947
in Butler County. The couple farmed for 32 years in Butler and Grundy
Counties. In 1979, they moved to their present home in Parkersburg,
Iowa. Herman worked for O’s Gold Seed Co. and Payco Seed Company. Herman
was a member of Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg and of the
Parkersburg American Legion Post #285. He enjoyed having his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit him. He also enjoyed
farming and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Herman died Sunday,
February 6, 2005 at his home in Parkersburg of cancer. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Leonard and Bessie Rewerts; three brothers,
Johan, Harm and George Rewerts and one grandson, Cory Groeneveld. Herman
is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie of Parkersburg; one
daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Schipper, Parkersburg, Iowa; four
grandchildren, Douglas (Camilla) Schipper, Ackley, Iowa; Shelly (Kevin)
Meester; Stacy (Ryan) Edeker; and Dalen (Amy) Schipper, all of
Parkersburg, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Clayton and Cade
Groeneveld; Derek and Dalton Schipper and Laura and Luke Edeker; three
step-grandchildren, Neil (Becky) Meester, Jessica Meester (Andy Jensen)
and Tyrus Meester; one step great-great-granddaughter, Jaylyn Jensen; ;
one brother, Leonard (AnnaMae) Rewerts, Aplington, Iowa and one sister,
Francis Haan, Aplington, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Doris Rewerts, Iowa

Deidra Floreine Hippen

Deidra Floreine Hippen, age 46, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born October
3, 1958, the daughter of Alton and Floreine King Ellingson in Des
Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Wellsburg High School and attended
Ellsworth College for two years. Deidra was united in marriage with
Galen Hippen on March 28, 1981 at the Hope Reformed Church in
Parkersburg, Iowa. The couple lived in Aplington and Deidra worked with
Galen in their Hippen Appliance business. She worked for Bergan Paulson
Accounting Firm in Waterloo for a few years, for the Postal Service in
several towns, for Oster Communications for one year and then for
Peterson Genetics for six years. Deidra was a member of Hope Reformed
Church in Parkersburg. She served as secretary/treasurer for the Sunday
School and was a member of the B.E.L.L. Couples Group. She also helped
at church as a youth group leader, Puppet Ministry and sang in the
church choir. She was active in the Cursillo Community. Deidra liked to
work on her scrapbooking and to do crosstitching. She enjoyed collecting
gingerbread items and sharing Taco Tuesday with her friends. She was an
avid bargain shopper. Deidra especially loved to attend and take part in
any of her daughters’ activities such as their soccer, basketball,
softball and volleyball and track games and meets and in their plays,
music and speech events. She was truly dedicated to her family. Deidra
died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at the Fairview University Medical
Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota of a rare lung disease. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Floreine Ellingson; her
grandparents; one brother, Keith Ellingson; one sister-in-law, Chris
Ellingson and one sister in infancy. Deidra is survived by her husband,
of nearly 24 years, Galen Hippen, Parkersburg, Iowa; two daughters, Koby
and Haley Hippen at home; two brothers, Ron (Cindy) Ellingson,
Wellsburg, Iowa and Rick (Gina) Ellingson, Waterloo, Iowa; and one
sister, Denise (Bill) Wieland, Carroll, Iowa; mother-in-law, JoAnn
Hippen, Aplington, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service
were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Hope Reformed
Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Neal Ooms officiating. Organist
was Lois Fisher. Congregational Hymns were “In The Garden” and “It Is
Well With My Soul”. Ministers of Music were Koby Hippen with “How
Beautiful” and Michelle Ahrenholtz with “On Eagle’s Wings/The Wind

Frank Howard Raisty

Funeral services for Frank Howard Raisty, 81, Greene, were held Monday,
February 14, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with Pastor
Paul Uzel officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery with
Military Honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion.
Frank Howard Raisty was born August 16, 1923 at St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital in Waverly, a son of Floyd E. And Ruth (Hill) Raisty, and died
Friday, February 11, 2005, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home
in Charles City. At the age of five he and his family moved to South
Gate, CA where his father was engaged in the ornamental rock business.
He received his education at a vocational high school in South Gate and
as a young man worked at Brewers Sweet Shop in Huntington Park. He was
inducted into the United States Army on January 13, 1943, where he
served with the 318th Military Police Escort Guard Section. He was
stationed in Northern France, Rome, Arno in the European African Middle
Eastern Theater. Following his honorable discharge on November 10, 1945,
he returned home to work with his father. While visiting his aunt and
uncle, who owned and operated Crabtree Café in Greene, he was
introducted to Viola (Peters) Beesley. Frank remained in Greene where he
worked at the café, and on January 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to
Viola at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in
Greene and to this union were born two children. Frank worked for the
Beguelin Construction Company, which later became Schroeder Construction
Co., retiring in 1985 with 42 years of service to the company. He was
also Town Marshall for several years. On August 16, 1986 he was united
in marriage to Clara Katherine (White) Boomgarden at the First
Presbyterian Church in Greene. His interests include stamp and coin
collecting, flower gardening, and working on crossword and jig-saw
puzzles. He delivered Meals on Wheels for the Hawkeye Valley Area on
Aging, and worked with the Greene Food Bank. Frank was named Honorary
Member of the Greene Jaycees for his contribution of time and labor in
building the North Shelter House in Perrin Park. He was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church of Greene where he served as a church trustee.
He was Past Commander of Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of
Greene. Frank was preceded in death by both his wives; Viola on March 5,
1979, and Clara on September 14, 1999, his parents, and one brother Jack
Raisty. He will be sadly missed by his two children: Darlene Shultz and
Bob (Barb) Raisty, all of Greene; five grandchildren: Jason (Dawn)
Raisty of Waterloo, Joshua Raisty of Greene, Jeffrey Shultz of Greene,
Jessica Shultz of Osage, and Jackie Shultz of Rockford; one great
grandson: Caleb Raisty of Waterloo; and one sister: Barrett Taylor of

Lena Rewerts, age 87, of Allison Health Care Center and formerly of
Parkersburg, Iowa, was born April 1, 1917, the daughter of Ed and Grace
Buss Rewerts near Dike in rural Grundy County, Iowa. She received her
education in a rural school near her home. Grace spent her life helping
on the family farm where she enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She
also enjoyed doing needlework. Grace looked forward to having the nieces
and nephews come to her home where she would sit on the floor and play
with the little ones. Grace loved to have family give her pictures which
she would display for all to see. Grace was a charter member of Faith
Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. She moved into the Allison Health Care
Center on October 22, 2004. Grace died Monday, January 31, 2005 at the
Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa, of natural causes. She was
preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers, Richard,
Clarence and Wilbur Rewerts. She is survived by one brother, Edward
Rewerts, Parkersburg, Iowa one sister-in-law, Lydia Rewerts, Waterloo,
Iowa and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services were held at
1:30 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Faith Lutheran Church,
Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Daniel J. Larson officiating. Organist was
Bernita Nicklaus. Congregational Hymns were “Just As I Am” and
“Beautiful Savior”. Casketbearers were Merle Witte, Dennis Hartema, Bob

Marlyn Cecil Vanderwerf

Marlyn Cecil Vanderwerf, age 76, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born August
10, 1928, the son of Peter and Grace (Behrends) Vanderwerf on a farm in
Grundy County near Wellsburg, Iowa. He received his education in a
Grundy County country school. Marlyn was united in marriage with Gertie
Evers on November 18, 1949, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg,
Iowa. The couple made their home in Parkersburg and in 1950, they moved
into their current home. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted
into the U. S. Army on February 4, 1952, and was honorably discharged on
January 16, 1954. He served in Korea and was stationed in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and later in Texas. Marlyn worked at Clay Equipment Company
as a Shear Operator for 41 years and retired in August, 1991, at the age
of 62. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg where he
had served on the church council, was Sunday School Superintendent, sang
in the church choir and ran the sound system on Sundays. Marlyn was a
past member of the Amvets. He used to pheasant hunt and enjoyed watching
the Cubs and Hawkeyes. He loved to spoil the grandchildren, was a great
fan of their activities, and attended most of all their sporting events.
Marlyn died Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in
Waterloo, Iowa, of a cancer illness. He was preceded in death by his
wife of 50 years, Gertie Vanderwerf on September 29, 2000; his parents;
one sister, Evelyn Krull, and a sister-in-law, Hattie Vanderwerf. He is
survived by two daughters, Anita Vanderwerf, Parkersburg, Iowa and
Cynthia (Kent) Madsen, Parkersburg, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jennifer,
Jeffrey, Billy, Ryan, Jeremy and Sara; four great-grandchildren; three
brothers, Chester Vanderwerf, Aplington, Iowa; Wayne (Alvina) Vanderwerf,
Cedar Falls, Iowa; Gerald (Dixie) Vanderwerf, Nashua, Iowa and one
brother-in-law, John Krull, Wellsburg, Iowa. Funeral Service were held
at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Bethel Lutheran

Nadine Meta Caroline Wedeking

Nadine Meta Caroline Wedeking, 81, of Clarksville, Iowa, died Monday,
February 21, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital. Nadine was born on
December 25, 1923, in Bremer County, the daughter of Herman and Marie
(Schafer) Benning. She was baptized on February 3, 1924, by Rev. Ewald
Hardt, and confirmed on February 13, 1938, by Rev. Kurt Kielhorn, both
at First Evangelical Church, Pleasant Valley. She attended rural school
in Fremont #3 in Butler County and graduated from Plainfield High School
in 1941. Following high school, Nadine attended Wartburg College for two
years. She then taught country school in Butler #6 for two years. On
April 4, 1945, Nadine was united in marriage to Mervin G. Wedeking at
First Evangelical & Reformed Church, Pleasant Valley. The couple made
their home in Fremont Township for one year before moving to Mervin’s
family farm in Butler Township. The couple farmed and raised their
family on the farm until retiring and moving to Clarksville in March
1989. Nadine worked in the Clarksville School in food service for
thirteen years, retiring in the spring of 1992. Nadine was an active
member of the First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley. She
enjoyed gardening, flowers, spending time with her family, especially
her grandchildren. Nadine will be remembered for her dedication to her
family and her faith. Nadine is survived by her twelve children and
their spouses, Susan & Ron Negan of Shell Rock, Carol & Francis Edeker
of Clarksville, Stanley & Sue Wedeking of Plainfield, Patricia & Lloyd

Wilbur Ray Martzahn

Funeral Services for Wilbur Ray Martzahn, 89, of Greene, were held
Saturday, February 19, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with
Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in
Greene. Wilbur Ray Martzahn was born December 19, 1915, in Greene, a son
of Walter A. and Dora (Busse) Martzahn and died Thursday, February 16,
2005 at the Hospice Unit of the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in
Charles City. He was baptized January 30, 1916 and confirmed a member of
St. Peter Lutheran Church on May 19, 1929. He received his education in
the rural Coldwater Country School and graduated from the Greene High
School in 1933. Wilbur chose farming as his life long profession, first
working with his father on the family farm and later continuing on his
own. On November 24, 1938 he was united in marriage to Violet R. Wolf at
St. Peter Lutheran Church. To this union were born four children. Wilbur
will be remembered for the Hereford cows and the pure-bread bulls he
raised. He also sold certified seed for oats, alfalfa, and clover.
Wilbur also loved to tinker in his shop and often times created homemade
inventions to simplify things around the farm. He served on the St.
Peter Church Council and also served as a Coldwater Township School
Director for many years. Wilbur leaves to join his parents, an infant
son Darrell Eugene in 1942, and a daughter-in-law: Lynette Martzahn.
Living family members include his loving wife of sixty six years, Violet
of Greene, his children: Harlan Martzahn and companion Sandra Greenlee,
Delores (Delos) Adelmund all of Greene, Ardith (Darrell) Buss of
Allison; seven grandchildren: Michael (Tracy) Martzahn of Greene, Daniel
(Lori) Martzahn of Lake Charles, LA, Darren (Shannon) Martzahn of

Emma Caroline Benning

Emma
Caroline Benning, 91, of Iowa City, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly, Iowa,
died early Wednesday morning, February 16, 2005, at the University of
Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of natural causes. Emma was born
on July 27, 1913, in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of William and
Anna (Busse) Tadge. She was baptized on September 14, 1913 and confirmed
on March 28, 1926 (in German) at the Pleasant Valley Church - rural
Clarksville. On November 8, 1934, she was united in marriage to Paul
Benning at Pleasant Valley Church, rural Clarksville. The couple made
their home on a farm in rural Waverly. Paul died in 1974 and Emma
continued to live in the Waverly area until 1997 when she moved to Iowa
City to be closer to her daughter, Shirley, and her family. In 2003,
Emma became a resident of the Lantern Park Nursing Home in Coralville.
Emma was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. She dearly
loved her husband, Paul, and was very proud of her children. Emma was
loved by all that she touched. Emma is survived by her two sons and one
daughter; Merlin Benning and his wife, Rhonda, of Waverly, Iowa, Roger
Benning and his wife, Linda, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina;
Shirley Pospisil of Iowa City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Brenda, Annette,
Dana, Jodi, Lorinda, Jennifer, Alyssa, Sarah, Tyler, and Amy; 11 great
grandchildren; one brother, Otto Tadge, and one sister, Esther Nolting,
both of the Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by
her parents; her beloved husband, Paul; two brothers, Albert and Arnold;
and two sisters, Ella Tadge and Mathilda Beisner. Celebration of Life
Services were held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastors James Carpenter and
Marcia Kifer officiating. Burial was in the Lynwood Cemetery in
Clarksville. Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Arlene Rose Clark

Arlene Rose Clark, age 81, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter
of John and Ella (Gallmeyer) Ackerman on May 11, 1923, in Butler County,
near Greene, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country
school. As a young girl she was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in
Clarksville. Arlene Ackerman was united in marriage with George Clark at
the First Baptist Church in Waverly, Iowa, on February 1, 1940. They
made their home in Clarksville. Arlene worked at a canning factory in
Clarksville for a short time in 1958 as well as being a homemaker.
Arlene was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in
Clarksville, where she loved going to church and was a member of the
Women’s Society. She became a member of the Rebekah Lodge in 1973 and
was also a member of Women’s Relief Corp. She enjoyed baking bread,
gardening and playing bingo. She especially loved her family and never
missed any of their birthdays. Arlene died Thursday, February 17, 2005,
at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was
preceded in death by her husband, George Clark on February 20, 1998; a
son, Darrell Clark; a grandson, Edward Clark; a great grandson, Levi
Sansgard; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Clark; a son-in-law, Edward Funte;
her parents; two brothers, Raymond Ackerman and Verl Ackerman; and one
sister, Leone Rinerson. Arlene is survived by four sons, Roger (Merron)
Clark of Clarksville, IA, Frank (Diane) Clark of Grundy Center, IA, Jim
(Brenda) Clark of Dunkerton, IA and Larry (Elisabeth) Clark of
Clarksville, IA; six daughters, Betty (Robert) Schurman of New Hartford,
IA, Karen Funte (special friend, Vern Mullinex) of Charles City, IA,
Rhonda Clark (special friend, Marvin Moser) of Charles City, IA, Glenda
Clark (special friend, Joe Ferch) of Charles City, IA, Sharon (Robert)
Jacques of Bondurant, IA, and Dawn (Craig) Coates of New Hartford, IA;
22 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two
brothers, Ivan (Kathy) Ackerman of Clarksville, IA and John (Carol)
Ackerman Jr. of Denver, IA; three sisters, Alma Sprague of Waterloo, IA,
Evelyn (Richard) Beenken of Parkersburg, IA and Lois Sharp of Waterloo,
IA; and one sister-in-law, June Ackerman of Clarksville, IA. Funeral
Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2005 at Community
United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. Ann Donat and
Rev. Allen Poore-Christensen officiating. Organist was Lola Clark. Solos
were “Amazing Grace” by David Ackerman; “I Can Only Imagine” by Roxanne
Novak and “Railway to Heaven” by Allen Poore-Christensen. A Duet of
David and Roxanne sang “Please Remember Me!” Congregational Hymn was “In
The Garden”. Honorary Casketbearer was Jim Wells. Casketbearers were her
grandsons, Duane Clark, Matt Clark, Jason Funte, Derrick Clark, Cody
Coates and Jonathan Funte. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville,
Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of
arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Kathryn Evans

Kathryn Evans, 96, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away February 18, 2005, at
the Rockwell Care Center in Rockwell, Iowa. She was born August 17,
1908, in rural Dumont, Iowa, to Frederick and Jennie (Ubben) Miller.
Kathryn graduated from Dumont High School in 1927. She was married to
Donald Evans on October 18, 1929, in Owatonna, Minnesota. She was a
homemaker. Kathryn was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church
in Dumont, where she was an active member. She was a member of the Gold
Star Mother’s Club in Dumont. Kathryn enjoyed gardening and flowers, she
also enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her
daughter Dawn and husband Wendell Thomas of Rockwell; grandson James and
wife Melia Thomas of Rockwell; granddaughter Janette and husband Doug
Lee of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; granddaughter Jennifer Thomas of San
Diego, California; great grandchildren: Cody and Sierra Thomas of
Rockwell and Madison and Joshua Lee of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She
was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son Donald Duane,
five brothers and six sisters. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m.,
Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in
Dumont with Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Special music was provided
by organist, Mrs. Beryl Reed accompanying the soloist, Mrs. Norman
Brown. The usher was Robert Barber. Pallbearers were Doug Lee, Burdeen
Sluiter, Darl DeArmoun, David Allen, James Thomas and Cody Thomas. Final
resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont. Sietsema-Vogel

Henrietta Krull

Henrietta Krull, 93, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away February 19, 2005 at
the Dumont Care Center in Dumont. She was born June 9, 1911, near Kesley,
Iowa, to George and Lena (Bruns) Knavel, later moving to Franklin
County. Henrietta attended school at North Prairie Hill. She married
Martin Krull on February 26, 1936 in Dumont at the E.U.B parsonage by
the Rev. Racker. She spent life as a devoted wife. Much of her life was
spent as a domestic helper for various families in Dumont. She was a
member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont. Henrietta is survived by
her sister Gertrude Pagenkopf of Evansdale and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, dear husband Martin and three
brothers. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 22,
2005 at the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont with Rev. Bob Scholten
officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Jim Siebrands
accom-panying Mrs. Bob Scholten. Pallbearers were Gary Krull, Art Krull,
Larry Krull, Aaron Knavel, Randy Anderson and Tony Yockstick. Final
resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont. Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Glenn H. Wiegmann

Glenn H. Wiegmann, 86, of Dumont, Iowa passed away February 18, 2005, at
the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, Iowa from complications
of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on February 23, 1918, in rural
Butler County, near Bristow, Iowa to Conrad C. and Ida (True) Wiegmann.
He attended the Pilltown Country School and graduated from Bristow High
School in 1936. He was confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Vilmar and remained a lifelong member, holding numerous church
offices. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the United States Army
as a Medic during World War II. He was involved in the Normandy invasion
and received many honors including the Bronze Star. He married Meta
Meyer on November 22, 1945 at the Bristow Reformed Church. They spent
their entire married life farming together west of Bristow. After they
retired, they continued to live on the family farm. He was secretary for
the Bristow Telephone Company for many years. His hobbies included
woodworking and collecting toy tractors and woodworking planes. He loved
attending farm sales, and spending time with and traveling with his
children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Meta
Wiegmann, four daughters: Phyllis (David) Opperman of Rogersville,
Missouri, Carol (Jeff) Seehusen of Allison, Janet (Harlan) Stoker of
Virginia Beach, Virginia and Becky Walker of Virginia Beach, Virginia;
sons: Warren (Noreen) Wiegmann of Bristow, Iowa and Larry (Valerie)
Wiegmann of Alden, Iowa; grandchildren: Bradley (Desiree) Opperman,
Bryan (Christa) Opperman, Brent Seehusen, Clint (Amy) Seehusen, Curt
(Susan) Seehusen, Marc (Jennifer) Seehusen, Tyler Seehusen, Chad Stoker,
Neil (Carol) Stoker, Traci Wiegmann, Cole Wiegmann, Amanda Wiegmann,
Anthony Wiegmann, Jonathan Wiegmann and Nicholas Walker;
great-grandchildren: Nathan and Zachary Opperman, Chandler, Libbie and
Bryce Seehusen, Alisha, Blake and Isabella Seehusen and Austin, Haley
and Hannah Stoker. He is also survived by sisters Neva Brinkman and
Rosella Mennen and sisters-in-law Evelyn Wiegmann and Henrietta Finke,
all of Allison, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents, one sister in infancy, a brother Orville “Mike”
Wiegmann, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at
1:30 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Vilmar with Rev Mark Walker officiating. Special music was
provided by organist, Florence Vieker accom-panying the duet of Bill &
Jane Thompson. The flower committee was JoAnn Taylor and Verlene Senne.
Military services provided by Dumont American Legion. Pallbearers were
Tyler Seehusen, Chad Stoker, Curt Seehusen, Marc Seehusen, Brent
Seehusen, Clint Seehusen, Bradley Opperman, Bryan Opperman, Anthony
Wiegmann, Jonathan Wiegmann, Neil Stoker, Cole Wiegmann and Nicholas
Walker. Honorary pallbearers were Traci Wiegmann and Amanda Wiegmann.
Final resting place was in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
Cemetery, Vilmar, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Vincent W. Kramer

Vincent W. Kramer, 81, of Bristow, Iowa, passed away February 17, 2005,
at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa. He was born December 14,
1923, in Butler County, Iowa, to Henry C. and Mary (Henken) Kramer.
Vincent attended Brushy Mound Country School in rural Butler County. He
was married to Evelyn Irene Jackson at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua, Iowa, on February 22, 1948. She passed away on January 15, 1976.
He later married Arlene Heise in Charles City, Iowa, on November 28,
1977. She passed away on June 2, 2003. Vincent worked as a farmer,
mechanic, and inventor. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church
in Allison. Vincent enjoyed his mid-morning coffee with friends. He is
survived by his son David and wife Linda Kramer of Johnston; daughter
Jean and husband Ron Davis of Geneva and four grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one sister, and three
brothers. Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Village, 502
Butler Street, Ackley, Iowa 50601. Funeral services were held at 10:30
a.m., Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Trinity Reformed Church in
Allison with Rev. Steve Petroelje officiating. Special music was
provided by keyboardist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying the
congregational singing. Pallbearers were Ron Davis, Danny Davis, Nate
Thiese, Wayne Eckhoff, Stan Loomis and Wayne Kramer. Final resting place
was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in rural Bristow, Iowa.
George F. Neugebauer

George F. Neugebauer, 89, of Allison, formerly of Longmont, Colorado,
died February 15, 2005 at the Allison Care Center of natural causes. On
November 11, 1915, George was born the son of Fred & Bertha (Moshner)
Neugebauer of Douglas County, South Dakota. He was raised in Douglas
County, South Dakota and was educated in country schools in Douglas
County. On September 12, 1937 he was married to Leona Grosz in Armour,
South Dakota. He was a farmer and a cabinet maker. George was a member
of First Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado and at St. James Lutheran
Church in Allison, Iowa. George enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing
and enjoyed working. Survivors include his wife Leona Neugebauer of
Allison; daughter: Donna & husband Calvin Fick of Allison; son: Alvin &
wife Joan Neugebauer of Colorado Springs, CO; sister: Regina Sperlich of
Custer, SD; and many nieces and nephews; 6 grandchildren and 10 great
grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter
Lorraine, five brothers and sisters. Memorial services wereheld Monday,
February 21, 2005 in Longmont, Colorado. Inurnment was in Longmont,
Colorado. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
