Laura Frascht

Laura Frascht, 98, of Greene, died Monday, October 24, 2005, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs. A Funeral Mass was held Friday, October 28, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Laura Josephine Osier was born on the family farm near Oakwood, Floyd Co., a daughter of George Edward and Mary Catherine (Katcher) Osier and died Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs. She received her education in the Floyd Co. Rural Schools. As a young lady she worked for Dr. McQuillon in Charles City. Laura was united in marriage to Leo Mattias Frascht on September 30, 1925 at St. Mary’s Caholic Church in Roseville. To this union were blessed 10 children. She and her husband farmed in Rural Floyd Co. until 1964 when they moved to Greene. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Lucy’s Circle and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Laura enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She created many lovely hand knitted or crocheted items over the years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who devoted much of her life in service to her family. Living family members include her children: Louise (Luverne) Wagner of Osage, Andy Frascht,and Richard (Sharon) Frascht all of Marble Rock, Earl (Joan) Frascht of Greene, Carl Frascht of Council Bluffs, Anne Frascht of Nora Springs, Carol Schuknecht of Palm Desert, CA, Paul (Karen) Frascht of Grinnel. She is also survived by 38 Grandchildren, 93 Great Grandchildren, and 23 Great Great Grandchildren. One sister, Catherine Rex of Clovis, Ca and one sister-in-law,Geraldine Osier of Greene. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo on August 10, 1980, two daughters: Florence and Helen; three sons-in-law: Robert Crabtree, Roger Schuknecht and Thomas Roosa; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Frascht; three grandsons: Gary Crabtree, Steven Crabtree, and Wade Roosa.; one great grand son, Anthony Rilatos;two brothers: Donald Osier, and Gilbert Osier; five sisters: Mabel Koenigsfeld, Elizabeth Frascht, Magdaline Popes, Mildred Koenigsfeld , and Margaret Gabel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Laura Frascht Memorial Fund in care of the family. Funeral arrangements were handled by Reid’s Funeral Chapel.


Lucille C. Smith

Lucille C. Smith, 80, of Shell Rock, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hopsice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. Lucille was born on October 20, 1925, in Parkersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle Ruth (Lewis) Witte. She attended rural school and Shell Rock High School. Following school, Lucille worked at numerous jobs in the Waverly area. On October 20, 1945, Lucille was united in marriage to James H. (Hank) Smith at Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. The couple made their home in Shell Rock where Lucille raised her family and worked at Carver’s Restaurant as a cook, Wartburg College Maintenance Department, and retired from Waverly Shell Rock Schools after working in food service and the maintenance department for 13 years. Lucille was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock where she was a member of the Ladies Aide, Wings program, a Sunday School teacher and a past Sunday School Superintendant for many years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog Velvet. Lucille is survived by her four children and their spouses, Russ and Margyne Smith of Shell Rock, Jim and Diane Smith of Waverly, Joan and Ray Iehl of Waterloo, Randy and Rachel Smith of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 5 step grandsons; 4 great granddaughters; 9 step great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Rose Ball of Waverly; and by her special friends, Joann Robinson, Lucille Thompson, Bonnie Forry and Bob & Viola Hartzell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hank on October 1, 1994; a step great granddaughter in infancy; and by several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 1:30 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Larry Sipe officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Jennie Faber

Jennie Faber, age 89, of Aplington, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Dave and Katie (Bronsema) Reints on December 16, 1915, in Aplington, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1934. Jennie was united in marriage with Herman Faber in 1938 in Sibley, Iowa. To this union two children, Sharon and David were later born. The couple made their home and farmed near Kesley, Iowa. In 1947 they moved to Parersburg, where Herman began an insurance business and Jennie opened the Up Town Café that she owned and operated for a few years. Jennie was a loving and supportive wife and mother. When Herman retired in 1976, they built a new home overlooking a pond near Dumont, Iowa. They enjoyed their time on the farm until August 1990, when they moved back to town in Parkersburg. Jennie was a faithful member of Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg. She made wonderful pies and was a very good cook. Jennie enjoyed playing cards, going bowling and was a former State Bowling Doubles Champion. She made friends easily and they became an important part of her life. She enjoyed many fishing trips with Herman and her family to Leech Lake and Cohasset, Minnesota. Jennie died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Faber on April 29, 1998; her parents; and one sister, Ella DeVries. Jennie is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Ned) Smith of Aplington, Iowa; one son, David (Margretta) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandchildren, Lane (Cheryl) Crosser and Kara (Eric) Kruse; five great grandchildren; and a special caring friend Rachel Sampson. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Hope Reformed Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Neal Ooms officiating. Organist was Cathy Myers. Soloist Russ Meyer sang “I The Lord Of Sea And Sky” and “On Eagles Wings”. A duet of Willie and Randy Aalderks sang “The Old Rugged Cross”. Congregational Hymns were “I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were John Sampson, Roger Maier, Ronald Faber, John Spain, Russ Knock and Les Muller. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


C. S. “Mac” Kaiser

A funeral Mass for C. S. “Mac” Kaiser, 95, of Greene will be 10:30a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church one hour before services. Charon Stirm Kaiser was born December 12, 1909, seven miles south of LaPorte City, Benton County, Iowa a son of Phillip H. and Carrie (Stirm) Kaiser, and died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He attended the rural Benton County Schools and started farming on the family farm at an early age. On December 12, 1934 he was united in marriage to Mildred Susan Henline, at the United Brethren Church, in Waterloo. Following their marriage they farmed at Aurora, Iowa. In 1941 he and his family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where he was a railroad express agent. In 1951 he moved to the Greene area and farmed for five years and later was employed by the Greene Limestone Company. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene; Nights of Columbus, Charles City Council No. 1409; and the Royal Neighbors. He is survived by two daughters: Nancy Jean (Mike) Bellomy, of Deer River, MN and Vikki (Sidney) Sterling, of Bremerton, Washington; two sons: Dale (Robie) Kaiser of Grand Rapids, MN, and Kent (Phyllis) Kaiser, of Black Diamond, Washington; eleven Grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; and a very special friend and companion, Madge Burke of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred “Susan”(February 3, 1999), his parents, three sisters: Mildred Sanders, Mabel Baylor and Arlene (in infancy); six brothers: Cato Kaiser, Sheldon Kaiser, Phil Kaiser, Letson Kaiser, Jennings Kaiser, and Paul Kaiser. Calvin Spree

Calvin Spree, age 76, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of William and Tena (Ridder) Spree on February 26, 1929, south of Stout, Iowa. He received his education from Albion #6 country school house near his home. Calvin was united in marriage with Imogene Junker on July 8, 1948, at the Stout Reformed Church, Stout, Iowa. They made their home east of Stout and Calvin worked at Galloway’s Farm Equipment in Waterloo, Iowa. They later moved and farmed east of Plainfield, Iowa. During this time he worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo, drove cement truck for Ready Mix in Waverly, was a custodian at the Plainfield School for eight years and drove the school bus for Plainfield School. In 1971 they moved to Parkersburg. He drove cement truck for Knock Lumber. Calvin worked at Kyhl’s and Badger’s Chevrolet car dealers in Parkersburg. Calvin was an active and faithful member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. He was currently the church custodian and had been for many years. He served as a trustee and took great interest in the present fellowship addition. Calvin served as a volunteer on the Parkersburg Fire Department for 27 years from 1974 to 2001 and was a former member of the Parkersburg Lion’s Club. In his spare time he enjoyed going camping, especially during the Iowa State Fair. He loved watching their grandchildren participate in activities and sporting events and all of their family get-togethers. Calvin died Saturday, November 5, 2005, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Dean Spree in 1951; his parents; one brother, Edward Spree; and an infant sister. Calvin is survived by his wife, Imogene Spree of Parkersburg, IA; two sons, David (Hermina) Spree of Waverly, IA and Loren (Linette) Spree of Parkersburg, IA; two daughters, Sandra (Steve) Sessler of Aplington, IA and Nancy (Craig) Schrage of Parkersburg, IA; a special daughter, Raea (Chris) Kelly of Waverly, IA; 14 grandchildren, Dawn (Kevin) Lee, Darren (Shannon) Spree, Shannon (Bridget) Spree, Shane (Marj) Spree, Chad (Miriam) Sessler, Brad Sessler, Staci Sessler, Casey (Kyle) Wetjen, Rachael (Kirk) Klooster, Nicole Spree, Cami (Mitch) Parker, Landon (Cassie) Schrage, Taylor Schrage and Kali Schrage; 10 great grandchildren Courtney Rust, Blake & Madison Spree, Dalton & Cayde Lee, Mason, Connor & Wyatt Spree, Willum Spree, Grant Parker and two more are expected soon; one brother, Harlan (Janice) Spree of Crosslake, MN; one sister, Esther (Richard) Brouwer of Parkersburg, IA; one sister-in-law, LuEtta Spree of Parkersburg, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the First Congregational Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Ron Bartlett officiating. Organist was Jean Bass. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “How Great Thou Art” and “One Day At A Time”. Congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Love Lifted Me”. Honorary Casketbearers were John Wilmer, Joel Buss, Ray Nitcher and Tony Beadle. Casketbearers were Darren Spree, Chad Sessler, Shannon Spree, Brad Sessler, Shane Spree, Landon Schrage, Taylor Schrage and Shawn Krusey. Interment was in the Stout Cemetery in Stout, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family


Kenneth R. Wendt

Kenneth R. Wendt, 81, of Aplington, Iowa, died November 3, 2005 of natural causes at the VA Medical Center Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Kenneth was born on September 17, 1924, in Bristow, Iowa to Lawrence and Delilah (Marie) Wendt. He attended Dumont High School. Kenneth served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was married to Ruth Kruger on January 17, 1953, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He worked for Greene Limestone for several years and later worked part time for the city of Allison as a maintenance man. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, and the AmVets Post 102 in Aplington. Kenneth enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He is survived by his wife Ruth Wendt of Aplington; daughter Arlene & husband Alan Meyer of Aplington, daughter Wanda & husband Kent Meyer of Ackley, daughter Lori & husband Dan Rathe of New Hartford; grandsons Ryan Dillard of Aplington and Scott Rathe of New Hartford; sister Lila & husband Art Harms of Hampton, sister Mary Ann & husband Dale Eisentrager of Bristow; brother Ronald & wife Joyce Wendt of Missouri; sister-in-law Janice Wendt of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Harold and one sister Marge. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Burial was in the Allison Cemetery. Darrel D. Smith

11/20/05

Darrel D. Smith, 77, of Kesley, Iowa, passed away November 9, 2005 at the Grundy Center Nursing Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Darrell was born February 9, 1928 in Kesley, Iowa to Henry and Hattie (Lursen) Smith. He attended Kesley Schools. Darrel served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Darrel worked at John Deere for 29 years. He was a member of Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley. Darrel was a member of the AM Vets Post 102 in Aplington. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughter Brinda and husband David Downs of St. Paul, MN, son Danny and wife Annette Smith of Alion, Nebraska, son Micheal Lee Smith of Charles City, son-in-law Charles Wright of Columbus, NE, special friend Merna, four grandsons and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one brother. Funeral services were held Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Kesley Presbyterian Church, Kesley, IA with Pastor Scott Summers officiating. Pianist was Rosella Mennen with congregational singing. Interment was in the Bethel Reformed Church Cemetery rural Aplington with military services provided by Dumont American Legion. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Homes, Dumont was in charge of arrangements.


Iven Cuvelier

Iven Cuvelier, 89, of New Hartford, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at his residence in New Hartford, Iowa. Iven was born on March 6, 1916, the son of Hyrom Elmore and Iva (Vincent) Cuvelier in Nowata, Oklahoma. He attended school at the Dumont High School in Dumont. Following his education, he worked for L.W. Ellis lumber company in Dumont. On March 28, 1941, he was united in marriage to Jean Elaine Elliott at her parents home in New Hartford, Iowa. Iven was drafted into the armed services, with Seabees in the US Navy, serving from 1941 until his discharge in 1945. After his discharge from the service, he was employed as a butter maker at Benson creamery. He later worked for Hawkeye steel and then for the New Hartford creamery as a butter maker/school bus driver in New Hartford. In 1952, he started working for John Deere until his retirement in March of 1979. Iven and Jean wintered in Apache Wells RV Park in Mesa, Arizona for 16 years. He enjoyed woodworking and stone clocks. Survivors are his son, Kent Linda Cuvelier of New Hartford, Iowa; daughter, Sherri (Kenneth) Howard of Perry, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sandy (Gary) Becker of New Hartford, Iowa, Barry (Julie) Cuvelier of New Hartford, Iowa, Courtney Howard of LaSalle, Michigan and Megan Howard of LaSalle, Michigan; seven great grandchildren, Drew, Luke, Brooke, and Blaine Becker, Kayleigh, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Cuvelier; brothers and sisters, Albert Cuvelier of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Orlo Cuvelier of Tucson, Arizona, Maxine Hahn of Hampton, Iowa, Abe (Laverne) Cuvelier of Aplington, Iowa, Bob (Delores) Cuvelier of Lawler, Iowa, Donna (Sheryl) Sokolik of Hampton, Iowa, Dorothy (Don) Harmon of Anamosa, Iowa, Carol Koenen of Hampton, Iowa and Craig (Jeannie) Cuvelier of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and by a sister-in-law, Ruth Cuvelier of Dumont, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean on September 4, 2004; sister, Eva Cuvelier and brother, Harley Cuvelier. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 10:30 am at Stout Gospel Hall in Stout, Iowa. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Edna Louise Ringleb

Edna Louise Ringleb, 96 of Waverly, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Waverly Health Center, Waverly. Edna was born on September 2, 1909 on a farm in Fremont Township, Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Louise (Graua) Klunder. She was baptized and confirmed at First United Church of Christ-Pleasant Valley, rural Clarksville, Iowa. She attended Beaver Creek Country School through the eighth grade. After her schooling she helped her family on the farm and also worked for neighboring farm families. On November 6, 1930 she was united in marriage to Frank William Ringleb in the Pleasant Valley Church. For the next 26 years, the couple farmed near Pleasant Valley Church. Frank died on September 12, 1956. In 1959, following a farm sale, Edna moved to Waverly. In 1960, Edna started working as a cook for the Lutheran Children’s Home in Waverly (now Bremwood). She worked for 21 years and retired in 1981. She is survived by her son in law, Clarence Leisinger and his wife, Celia of Waverly, Iowa; and a daughter in law, Marilyn Ringleb of Waverly, Iowa; four grandchildren, and their spouses, Vernon and Bev Leisinger of Waverly, Iowa; Shirley and George Bierner of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Lori and Tom Soska of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Brian and Cindy Leisinger of Waverly, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Melissa Sells of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Andrea (Ryan) Siegworth of Maquoketa, Iowa; Kelsey Soska of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Katelyn Soska of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one sister, Elsie Deike of Waverly, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, a daughter, Norma Leisinger; a son, Harold Ringleb; brothers and sisters, Louise Wedeking, Bertha Wedeking, Henry Klunder, Albert Klunder, Lena Stoxen, Hilda Schmadeke, Ella in infancy and Ida in childhood. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Peace United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the Peace United Church or to Lutheran Services In Iowa-Bremwood Campus.


Jeannette Ann Hanson

Jeannette Ann Hanson, 70, of Fredenberg Township, Duluth, Minnesota, died Nov. 8, 2005 at her home. She was born in Clarksville, Iowa, on February 10, 1935 to Mitchel and Ida Metcalf Doty. Jeannette was a 1952 graduate of Mankato High School and later married Richard Dale Hanson in the Little Brown Church in Chickasaw County, Iowa. She had worked at various interesting jobs, including turkey plucker for Roy Mosier for many years and peeling onions at the New Mexico State Fair. She was a member of Fredenberg Community Chapel for over 45 years, where she made it her personal mission to welcome each and every newcomer and visitor to the Chapel, taught Sunday School, VBS and was a member of TOPS and Rosemaling group in Proctor. Jeannette enjoyed Tole, Folk and scenery painting, bird watching and tending her flower garden. But more than any of these, she loved loving others, reaching out to them and loving them into the family of God. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald and his children, Ronald Jr., Cindy and Marlene; sisters, Donna Knight, Ellen Clikeman, LaVonne Renfroe and Beverly Stevenson. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard Dale Hanson; children, Sheryl (Larry) Jones, Maple Falls, Wash., Dennis Hanson, Ellen LaMae, David (Gerri) Hanson, all of Fredenberg, Karen (Robert) Moore, Anchorage, Alaska, Donna (David) Kohne, Cloquet; 26 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Dolly) Doty, Montrose, Colo., Mitchel Doty, Columbia, Tenn.; sister, Kay (Douglas) Meyers, Marshfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Fredenberg Community Chapel. Burial at Noble Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.


Darlene Marie Jungling

Darlene Marie Jungling, age 77, of Marion, Iowa, and formerly of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Charles and Myrtha Arends Wilmot on February 20, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa. As a child, she moved to Clarksville with her family and received her education in the Clarksville school. Darlene was united in marriage with Harry Jungling on October 9, 1943, in Shell Rock, Iowa. The couple made their home in Clarksville where they lived all of their lives. Darlene worked at the canning factory in Clarksville in the summers and she was a waitress at B&G Café. She was employed at the Clarksville School in food service for 15 years, retiring in 1982. Darlene was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville. She loved to spend time traveling and camping, especially taking the trips South to Winter in Arizona. She also loved being with her family and the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandson. Darlene died Monday, November 7, 2005, at Bickford Cottage, Marion, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harry Jungling in 1995; her parents; an infant daughter, Sherry; two brothers, George Wilmot and Charles Wilmot and a stillborn sister. She is survived by two daughters, Joy (Carey) Krull, Marion, Iowa and Robin (Glenn) Cox, Los Alamos, New Mexico; four sisters, Myrtha Rust, Clarksville, Iowa; Virginia (Robert) Miller, Waverly, Iowa; Harriett (Keith) Westcott, Waverly, Iowa and Betty (Wayne) Endelman, Waverly, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilmot, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Florence Wilmot, Clarksville, Iowa; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Memorial Services were at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2005, at the Community United Methodist Church, Clarksville, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Ann Donat and Rev. Jay Miller. The organist was Lola Clark, Betty Whitney sang “One Day at a Time” and the congregational hymns were the “Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages.” Inurnment was at the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa.
