Geneva Matilda (Neubauer)
Hayden
June 19, 1919-November 17, 2011
December 3, 2011
NEW PORT RICHEY, Florida—Geneva Matilda (Neubauer) Hayden
was born at her parents’ farm home at Hubbard, Iowa, on June
19, 1919. She went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November
17, 2011, from hospice in New Port Richey, Florida.
She was the third daughter
of Frederick Herman Henry Neubauer and Erna Hulda Caroline (Ziebell)
Neubauer. Two more siblings followed. When she was 7 she
contracted polio and missed a full year of school. She spent
most of that year paralyzed. Her father carried her to the
doctor 75 times. She almost totally recovered from the
polio; however, her left foot had some residual effects.
After graduation from high school in Buckeye, Iowa, she was
a live-in nanny for several families. On April 13, 1940, she
eloped to Memphis, Missouri, with Marion Hayden. They were
married for 69 years until his death in 2009, and had two
daughters, Theone and Sara.
She was a homemaker for the rest of her life. They resided
in Alden, Iowa Falls, Fort Dodge and Williams, Iowa, for
most of their married life but moved to Port Richey, Florida
in 2005, to be near family. She always had the gift of
hospitality and family and friends knew that her cookie jar
was full, that coffee or tea would also be prepared, along
with lunches she could always provide for a crowd. She
always made sure no one left the table hungry. She enjoyed a
good game of cards and was a big sports fan — especially her
Cubs. She was active in several Lutheran churches teaching
Sunday School, women’s groups and altar guild. She seldom
missed church throughout her life until the last two
Sundays. Her family was her joy in life. She lived the dash
in her life well, always having a smile and by being a
excellent role model and a good friend to many.
