Lee Lawrence

ELDORA - Lee Michael Lawrence, 29, of Eldora died from injuries sustained in an auto accident on State Highway 3 near Waverly on Monday, Sept. 27, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Oct. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with the Rev. James Dubbert officiating. Burial followed at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. A memorial fund is being established in his name.

Lee was born May 13, 1975, in Anamosa to Clement and Mary "Kay" (Heying) Lawrence. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1993 and in 1995 graduated from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids with an AS in applied animal science. On Aug. 24, 1996, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Steinfeldt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora. They made their home in Ackley for three years before moving to rural Eldora. Lee worked for Iowa Select Farms at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and also the Hubbard Golf and Recreation Club where he served on the board of directors. He regularly golfed in men's league and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Survivors include his wife, Jen; a daughter, Haley, age 7; a son, Tanner, age 4; his parents, Kay and Clement Lawrence of Monticello; a sister, Larissa Lawrence of Prairieburg; brothers Lance of Ackley and Larry and Luke of Monticello; grandmother Geraldine Heying of Elma; mother and father-in-law, Harris and Carole Steinfeldt of Hubbard; sister-in-law, Kris and husband Marty Eide of Hubbard.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Leander Heying, and Wesley and Clara Lawrence.

Walter Norman

January 30, 1927 - September 29, 2004

UNION-Walter M. Norman, 77, formerly of rural Union, died at the Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union where his family will be present to greet friends.

Walter was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Marshalltown, the son of Lewis A. and Mabel E. (Bridle) Norman. He was raised and educated in the Liberty Township area where he graduated from the Liberty School in 1944. Walter served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge Walter was united in marriage to Alice Imogene Williams on March 3, 1948, at the Liberty Friends parsonage. They made their home in rural Union where he operated their family farm for more than 53 years. He enjoyed watching sports, reading, activities at the Villa and spending time with family. Walter was a member of the Bangor Liberty Friends Church, the Union American Legion Post No. 255 and several area co-ops.

Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Sherry of Union and Darrell and wife Glenda of Eldora; two daughters, Michelle Novak and husband Gary and Marcia Perkins and husband Steven, all of Marshalltown; a brother Carl and wife Audrey of Union; sister-in-law Erma Norman of Union; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Glenn and sister-in-law, Alice.

Jane Simon

PARKERSBURG - Jane Simon, 65, of rural Parkersburg died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, from complications of lung cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parkersburg with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating.

Jane was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Hampton to Joseph M. and Marjorie E. (Courtney) Thomas. Jane graduated from Hampton High School in 1957 and from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1959. On May 28, 1960, she married Daniel D. Simon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hampton. She taught elementary education in the Parkersburg School System, and special education in Allison, Wellsburg and River Hills School in Cedar Falls, retiring in 2002. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parkersburg and had also been a past member of the Parkersburg School Board. She loved being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel, of Parkersburg; a son, Joseph, and wife Carrie of Grundy Center; two daughters, Danielle Voy and husband Kevin of Fairbank and Meg Fishler and husband Frank of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; her mother Marjorie Grabbe of Hampton; and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Florence V. Lindaman

ACKLEY-Florence V. Lindaman, 83, of Wellsburg died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, of natural causes. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley with the Rev. Bruce Baillie and Lynn Arends officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Florence was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Ackley the daughter of John Joseph and Grace (Shugar) Doyen. She was a 1938 graduate of Wellsburg High School and then continued her education graduating from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. On Nov. 27, 1942, Florence was united in marriage to Delbert J. Lindaman at the Second Christian Reformed Church Parsonage in Wellsburg. After their marriage, they made their home in Wellsburg. Florence was a member of East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert J. Lindaman of Wellsburg; two sons, David Lindaman and wife Lorraine of Council Bluffs and Merrill Lindaman of Wellsburg; two grandchildren, Brent Lindaman of Omaha, Neb., and Kendra Lindaman of Council Bluffs; and one brother, Elwood "Red" Doyen and his wife Vaneda of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Doyen.

ACKLEY - Lois E. Meints, 94, of Ackley died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Ackley with the Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Burial was at East Friesland Cemetery in Ackley.

Lois was born Nov. 10, 1909, in rural Hardin County, the daughter of Christopher and Gusta (Gabrielson) Sayer. She was a graduate of New Providence High School and on Aug. 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Johannes Meints at the East Friesland parsonage. Lois was a farm wife and taught country school. Lois was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and the Birthday Club.

She is survived by four nieces, Jocelyn Hirt, Janet Aswegan of Wabash, Ind., Brenda Crabb of Boone, and Mary Jane Meints of Ackley; four nephews, Philip Sayer of Nevada, David and Ronald Sayer of Eldora, and Corey Meints of Ackley; and two sisters-in-law, Avonelle Sayer of Eldora and Marjorie Schwarck of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Wendell, George, and twin brothers Merle and Earl; and two sisters, Lucile Meeker and Esther Klooze.

Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of arrangements.

Donald "Shorty" Rosine

IOWA FALLS-Donald "Shorty" Rosine, 82, of Eldora died from natural causes on Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with the Rev. David Splett officiating. Burial followed at the Eldora City Cemetery with military honors by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless 3974 of the VFW Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Don was born Oct. 6, 1921, in rural Eldora son of Otto Herman and Minnie Anna (Jass) Rosine. He graduated from Eldora High School in 1941, then served with the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 until 1946. On Sept. 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Marzell Lindsey in Alexandria, La., where he was stationed. Don lived in Eldora his entire life other than when he was in Alexandria during his military service and for two years in 1953 through 1955 when he was also living in Alexandria. He worked as service manager for Wood Auto until 1963, then worked for Eldora High School as the head custodian. Don was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion where he was a past commander, served on the board of Dorothy's Senior Center, and enjoyed helping with the Pine Lake Wildlife Club fish fries. After retirement in 1986 he enjoyed saw sharpening in his spare time.

Surviving Don are his children, Rita Balvanz and husband Lonnie of Eldora, Anita Eggleston and husband Allan of Eau Claire, Wis., and Donald George Rosine Jr. of Eldora; sister Doris Kallem and husband Merlyn of Eldora; brother, Art Rosine and his wife Wanda of Webster City; and by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; sister, Betty Owings; and brothers, Richard and Robert.

Charles Kemmerer

ACKLEY - Charles Eugene Kreimeyer, 82, of Ackley died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley with the Rev. Mary Stonebraker officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley.

Charles was born July 13, 1922, in rural Ackley to Rudolph and Minnie (Hartje) Kreimeyer. He graduated from Ackley High School in 1939 and on Jan. 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Janssen at St. John's UCC. Charles was a retired farmer and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a charter member of the Ackley Lions Club. He was the Etna Township clerk, a member of church council, men's chorus and involved in many church activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Charleen Richtsmeier and husband Robert of Ackley, Mary O'Brien and husband Michael of Geneva, and Kathy Nolte and husband William of Dumont; a sister Edith Harms and husband Ralph of Ackley; a sister-in-law Valerie Kreimeyer of Urbandale; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and many friends of all ages.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia; a son, Randal; and one step-grandson.

Dorothy P. Heyer

HAMPTON - Dorothy P. Heyer, 81, of Hampton died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. A memorial service will be Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. There will be no visitation as Dorothy gifted her body to science, but internment at a later date will be at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

Dorothy was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Askov, Minn., to Marius and Anna Mary (Steffensen) Johansen. She attended La James Beauty School in Mason City. She married Howard Passehl in Nashua, who passed away in 1952, and then she was united in marriage to Merle Heyer on Feb. 7, 1953, in Mason City. Dorothy was a hair dresser in Britt and Northwood, then a secretary at the Methodist Camp in Spirit Lake. She managed a mobile home park in Colorado and was a greeter at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Dorothy was currently working at the Franklin County Historical Society in Hampton. She was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Barton and husband George of Ankeny, and Cheryl Hauswirth and husband Rick of Corwith; son Dennis Heyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Dagmar Schinagel and husband Gerald of Cottenwood, Ariz., Elvera Dodd and husband Lloyd of Hampton, and Gertrude Hollingsworth and husband Robert of Brainerd, Minn.; two brothers, Gerald Johansen and wife Collene of Eagle Grove, and Marvin Johansen and wife Judy of Longmont, Colo.; special friend Orval Marts of Hampton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister and one brother.

William Maisel

HUBBARD - William Conrad Maisel, 90, of Hubbard died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 8, at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Ridgway officiating. Burial followed at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard.

William was born April 7, 1914, to Christ and Minnie (Kuhlman) Maisel in Hubbard. He attended Grant Center School No. 5 and Hubbard School. On Nov. 27, 1936, he was united in marriage to Pauline Etnier in Saybrook, Ill. They began farming in the spring of 1937 and moved to the Maisel farm in 1952. William was a farmer and lawn mower mechanic. He was one of the first owner/operators of a combine and did custom combining for years. In the spring of 1963, William and Pauline moved to Hubbard where he was a full-time mechanic. William was a volunteer member of the Hubbard Fire Department and also a Snapper mower dealer for 26 years. He served as the rural Grant School No. 5 director and later on the Hubbard school board. In later years, he enjoyed his son's collection of Allis-Chalmers tractors. He and his wife were winter visitors of Florida for 40 years. William was a lifelong member of Salem Church in Hubbard.

William is survived by wife Pauline; one son, Lavern and wife Judy; two grandsons, Mitch and Brett Maisel, all of Hubbard; along with many nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Maggie Stockdale

IOWA FALLS-Maggie L. Stockdale, 95, of Iowa Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. The funeral service will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church of Iowa Falls with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memory Gardens.

Maggie was born Feb. 24, 1909, in rural Iowa Falls to Fred and Pauline (Daleske) Roske. She graduated from country school and on Feb. 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thomas R. Stockdale at the church parsonage in rural Iowa Falls. She was a farmwife, a mother and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Survivors include son, Raymond and wife Kathy of Iowa Falls; a granddaughter, Katie of West Hartford, Conn.; and a grandson, Kurtis of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; seven brothers, Fred, Albert, William, Daniel, Louie, Henry and Harry Roske; and a sister, Minnie Hansen.

Phyllis M. Ruppelt

STEAMBOAT ROCK - Phyllis Ruppelt, 82, of Steamboat Rock died from natural causes Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock with the Rev. Harrison Lippert officiating. Burial will follow at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery.

Phyllis was born Oct. 15, 1921, in rural Steamboat Rock to Philip and Susie (Santen) Ruppelt. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1939. She attended Cedar Falls Teacher's College and later received her master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1972. She worked as a social worker in Waterloo, retiring in 1980. Phyllis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, enjoyed volunteering for hospice and also helped prepare tax returns for friends and family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling throughout the world.

Survivors include her aunt, Dorothy Ruppelt of Steamboat Rock, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herman Richard Ruppelt; and a special friend, Merle Mersman.

Mary Gilbert

IOWA FALLS - Mary Gilbert, 85, of Iowa Falls died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Iowa Falls with the Rev. Margaret Debner officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 14, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel with the family present to receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family in care of her husband William Gilbert, 1920 Timberedge Dr., Iowa Falls, IA 50126.

Mary Jean was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Royal, Neb., the daughter of Ernest T. and Maude Hortense (Elliott) Barrick. She attended school in Enid, Okla., graduating with the class of 1936 at the age of 17. She then attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., receiving her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1941. Mary taught school in Bokchito, Okla., for four years and then attended Iowa State University, receiving her master's degree in nutrition in 1947. On July 13, 1947, she was united in marriage to William House Gilbert in Enid, Okla. They farmed in Etna Township, south of Iowa Falls. She was a 50-year member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls, serving on the church council, pulpit committee and a past president of the Missionary Circle. Mary was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi sorority of Oklahoma State University, a longtime member of the Parchment Club and the Culture Club, the Hardin County Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Extension Council and the Grundy/Hardin County Dairy Promoters Group. Mary always had a very large garden with plenty of produce for family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Gilbert of Iowa Falls; six sons, Bill and wife Kathy of Warren, N.J., John and wife Beverly of Iowa Falls, Greg and wife Barb of Waukesha, Wis., Bruce and wife Joyce of Ames, Mike and wife Bridget of Jackson, Minn., and Dan and wife Sandra of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Leonard of Osage, Cathryn Stubbe of Phoenix, Ariz., Charlotte Parrack and husband Doyle of Norman, Okla., Dorothy Dodd and husband Ted of Tempe, Ariz.; two brothers, the Rev. Robert Barrick and wife Margaret of Osage and the Rev. William Barrick and wife Jean of Abilene, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; and one brother.

Andreas F. Kasemeier

IOWA FALLS - Andreas F. Kasemeier, 91, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Eldora, died from congestive heart failure Sunday, October 10, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with the Rev. David Splett officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is Wednesday, October 13, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with the family present to greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Andreas was born April 30, 1913, in Sumner, son of Andreas and Emma (Koch) Kasemeier. He attended and graduated from Sumner public school in May 1932. On February 6, 1935, he was united in marriage to Elsie L. Burh at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Sumner. He owned a retail shoe and repair business for a number of years before World War II. In January 1943 he entered military service, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of operations for a period of 33 months. In 1946 Andreas and his wife moved to Eldora where he was employed by the State Training School for Boys for 32 years, retiring in 1978. He also worked as a volunteer for the Eldora hospital and Iowa Department of Human Services for 10 years. Andreas continued to make his home in Eldora until June 2003 before moving to assisted living in Iowa Falls.

Survivors include a sister, Frieda and husband Ralph Clement of Waterloo, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death was his wife in 1989, his sister, Hedwig, and brother, Reinhard.

Mabel Pearl Meyer

ACKLEY - Mabel Pearl Meyer, 87, of Ackley died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in Ackley. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 11, at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley with the Rev. Mary Stonebraker officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ackley.

Mabel was born Jan. 4, 1917, in the Osceola Township in Franklin County to John and Dena (Sonius) Meyer. She attended rural Ackley schools. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley.

Survivors include several cousins.

Donald D. Kendall

ELDORA - Donald D. Kendall, 63, of Eldora died of natural causes Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with the Rev. Randy Crane officiating. Cremation followed with inurnment to occur at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.

Donald was born June 10, 1941, in Gilmore City, the son of Wilbur and Florence (Scott) Kendall. At a young age, Donald moved with his family to Colfax, where he also received his education. On Aug. 31, 1963, he was united in marriage to Karen Earles at First Methodist Church in Mingo. During the summer of 1966, the family moved to Eldora. Donald worked as an auto body mechanic, working for Purvis Body Shop and Wood Auto in Eldora, and also worked for Don's Body Shop in Boone. He loved fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of Eldora; three sons, Brian and wife Jami of Eldora, Kelly and wife Marcia of Eldora, and Michael of Boynton Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kendra, Michaela, Dakota, Brady, Brianna and Tyler Kendall; one brother; one sister; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Gail Tucker

HAMPTON - Gail Tucker, 95, died of cancer Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in her home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hampton Gospel Hall in Hampton with the Rev. Robert Orr officiating. Burial will follow at Harlan Cemetery in rural Dumont. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Iowa Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Gail was born June 23, 1909, in Franklin County to Arthur E. Chapman and Fannie Hammond. She graduated from Hansell High School. On Jan. 24, 1931, she was united in marriage to Ray E. Tucker in Albert Lea, Minn. Gail was a bookkeeper for Tucker Oil and a homemaker. She was a member of Hampton Gospel Hall and enjoyed reading, hand work and playing the piano.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Ann Tucker of Hampton; her sister, Millie Heller of Waterloo, a sister-in-law, Lucille Tucker of North Bend, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; a sister, Gladys; and a brother, Oscar.

IOWA FALLS - Gwendoline Miller, 92, of Iowa Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services are Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls. Visitation will begin one hour before the service on Saturday.

Gwendoline was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Dows, the daughter of Edward and Sadie (Miller) Ingebritson. She attended country school and Popejoy High School. In 1937 she was united in marriage to Lyle E. Miller in Chicago, Ill. Gwendoline was a member of the Popejoy Senior Citizens and the Popejoy Improvement Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Vestal of Waukee, Rosanne Beyer and husband Melvin of Dows, and Sharon Dummer and husband Edwin of Glencoe, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Ingebritson of Staples, Minn.; three sisters, Alice Bridges of Latimer, Olive Quasdorf of Hampton, and Faye Booser of Little Falls, Minn.; and many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle; a son, Edward; a daughter, Jeanie; five brothers; two sisters; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

GRUNDY CENTER - Whitney Elizabeth Tjepkes, 14, of Grundy Center died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in a vehicular accident southeast of Grundy Center. Whitney was born March 17, 1990, in Waterloo, the daughter of Curt and Nancy (Dinnes) Tjepkes. Whitney was a freshman at the Grundy Center High School. She was active in the Grundy Center Drill Team and Bobbi's Fancy Dancers, the School Choir, the FFA and was active in the local 4-H club. Last year she played in the band and was on the basketball team. She was also active in the youth group at the American Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her father, Curt and his wife Julie Tjepkes of Grundy Center; her mother, Nancy and husband Dan Hemann of Grundy Center; a sister, Christina Tjepkes of Cedar Falls; a brother, Nate Hemann of Grundy Center; five step-brothers, Trent Burg of Des Moines, Thad and Adam Burg of Waterloo, Jason Hemann of Dike, and Justin Hemann of Cedar Falls; paternal grandparents, Arnold and Minetta Tjepkes of Grundy Center; and maternal grandmother, Barbara and husband Jim Musch of Dunkerton.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Dale Dinnes, and brother Austin.

DUMONT - Rodney Lee "Tony" Silver, 48, of Dumont died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, in his home in Dumont. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with the Rev. Marvin Schumacher officiating. Burial will follow at the Dumont Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 17, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.

Tony was born Sept. 7, 1956, in Hampton to Donald F. and Nancy (Abbas) Silver. He graduated from Dumont Community School. On June 23, 1979, he was united in marriage to Lois Freesemann in Allison. Rodney was a truck driver for Greene Limestone. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont and attended St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Rodney enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, auctions, watching his daughters in their extracurricular activities and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; three daughters, Carissa and fiance Dustin Otto, Tori and Tonia, all of Dumont; and two sisters, Rhoda Clemens and husband Ron of Paola, Kan., and Roxie Bochman of Peoria, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Rhonda, and brother, Roger.

Survivors include his father, Curt and wife Julie Tjepkes of Grundy Center; his mother, Nancy and husband Dan Hemann of Grundy Center; a sister, Christina Tjepkes of Cedar Falls; a brother, Nate Hemann of Grundy Center; five step-brothers, Trent Burg of Des Moines, Thad and Adam Burg of Waterloo, Jason Hemann of Dike, and Justin Hemann of Cedar Falls; paternal grandparents, Arnold and Minetta Tjepkes of Grundy Center; and maternal grandmother, Barbara and husband Jim Musch of Dunkerton.

Funeral services for Brian Dale Mueller will be 10:30 Thursday, October 21, 2004. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Eldora, Iowa with burial to follow at the Eldora Municipal Cemetery. Brian Dale Mueller was born September 9, 1938, at Maustin, Wisconsin, the son of Irwin Alfred and Lillian Ann [Tuch] Mueller. He attended Eldora Community Schools graduating with the class of 1957. He never married. Brian was employed as a warehouseman for over 25 years at the M. D. Meyer Seed, Inc. Eldora, Iowa. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Eldora.

Brian Dale is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Irwin and Lillian Mueller; and two sisters: Dawn Sapp and Shirley Cockerham.

Bruce Michael Ackerman was born December 20, 1948, at Eldora, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Vernon and Vera [Gerdes] Ackerman. He attended Iowa Falls Community Schools graduating with the class of 1967. He served two years with the United States Marines during the Vietnam Conflict serving one tour in Vietnam. On May 16, 1975, he was united in marriage to Peggy Lynn Elkin at Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union two sons were born: Bryon and Robert. Bruce had been employed as a corrections officer at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was previously employed at Quality Pork in Austin, Minnesota, and the Farmland Foods in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Bruce Michael Ackerman is survived by his two sons: Bryon Ackerman and wife Jarah of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Robert Ackerman and wife Jessica of Clear Lake, Iowa; one step son: Jeffrey Mulford of Iowa Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren: Madelyn and Evan Ackerman of Iowa Falls, Kayla, Kelsi, and Klohie Ackerman of Clear Lake, Iowa; one step-grandson: Nathaniel Mulford of Newton, Iowa; his mother: Vera Ackerman of Iowa Falls; one brother: Anthony "Tony" Ackerman and wife Judy of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and two sisters: Cindy Gough and husband Philip of Margate, Florida, and Sandy Baldwin and husband James of Iowa Falls.

Mary Gilbert, 85, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 11, 2004, at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Mary Gilbert will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 15, 2004, at the First Congregational Church, Iowa Falls, with the Reverend Margaret Debner officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Mary Jean Barrick was born November 3, 1918, at Royal, Nebraska, the daughter of Ernest T. and Maude Hortense [Elliott] Barrick. She attended the Enid, Oklahoma Community Schools graduating with the class of 1936 at the age of 17. She then attended Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor Degree in home economics in 1941, with Phi Kappa Phi honors. She taught school in Bokchito, Oklahoma four years and then attended Iowa State University receiving her Masters Degree in Nutrition in 1947. She was introduced to her future husband through a mutual friend while attending Iowa State. On July 13, 1947, she was united in marriage to William House Gilbert at Enid, Oklahoma. She spent her married life on a busy dairy farm nine miles southwest of Iowa Falls. On the farm, six sons were raised: Bill, John, Greg, Bruce, Mike, and Dan. In 1992, she moved to Iowa Falls, continuing to be active with her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. She was a 50-year member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Iowa Falls, serving on the church council, pulpit committee, and as president of the Missionary Circle. Mary was a longtime member of the Parchment Club and the Culture Club, the Hardin County Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Extension Council and the Grundy/Hardin County Dairy Promoters Group.

Mary Gilbert is survived by her husband of 57 years: William "Bill" Gilbert of Iowa Falls, Iowa; her sons: Bill Gilbert and wife Kathy of Warren, New Jersey, John Gilbert and wife Beverly of Iowa Falls, Greg Gilbert and wife Barb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Bruce Gilbert and wife Joyce of Ames, Iowa, Mike Gilbert and wife Bridget of Jackson, Minnesota, Dan Gilbert and wife Sandra of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; four sisters: Margaret Leonard of Osage, Iowa, Cathryn Stubbe of Phoenix, Arizona, Charlotte Parrack and husband Doyle of Norman, Oklahoma, Dorothy Dodd and husband Ted of Tempe, Arizona; two brothers: Rev. Robert Barrick and wife Margaret of Osage, Iowa, Rev. William Barrick and wife Jean of Abilene, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Esther Thompson and Helen Williams; and one brother: Dr. Elliott Barrick.

Russell F. Ziesman

SHEFFIELD - Russell F. Ziesman, 77, of Sheffield died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sheffield with the Rev. R. Karl Watkins officiating. Interment will be in Maynes Grove Cemetery in Bradford. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.

Russell Frank Ziesman was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Eldora, the son of Alfred and Rose (Bahr) Ziesman. He attended country school. Russell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with Joyce Green on Nov. 2, 1952. To this marriage four daughters were born. Joyce died July 11, 1966. Russell was a farm hand for most of his working years. On May 21, 1982, Russell married Thelma Molencamp. He worked as the custodian for the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield for 10 years. He also worked for the city of Sheffield and was a caretaker of Hillside Cemetery for a few years. Russell loved fishing, gardening, nature, hunting and sharing hunting stories.

Russell is survived by his wife Thelma of Sheffield; four daughters, Diana Arndorfer and husband Michael of Hampton, Debra Janssen and husband Gary of Mason City, Dawn Ziesman of Iowa Falls, and Darla Gonnerman and husband Craig of Iowa Falls; four stepchildren, Roland Thomas of Los Angeles, Calif., Carol Nelson and husband Don of Calmar, Shari Hampton and husband Greg of Clear Lake, and Lori Heyden and husband David of Hampton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one nephew, Gary Terveer of Iowa Falls and two nieces, Sherri Windecker of Iowa Falls and Lori Bushore of Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one brother, Wilbert; and one sister, Irene Terveer.

Joyce was born July 21, 1918, to Walter and Bessie (Shores) Tanner in Bremer County. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School and on May 20, 1939, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Clemens in Cedar Falls. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative for over 25 years. Joyce was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church and was very active with the church choir and Ladies Aid.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Clemens and wife Rhoda of Paola, Kan., and Gary Clemens and wife Shirley of New Hartford; a brother, Richard Tanner and wife Ann of Eugene, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Elvina M. Bourne

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Elvina M. Bourne, 98, of Bloomington, Ind., formerly of Iowa Falls, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at the home of her son, Richard Bourne. Graveside services will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Iowa Falls on Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. Following the services, there will be a lunch for family and friends at Edgewood, 719 River St.

Elvina was born April 26, 1906, in Merrill, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Schmidt) Pausch. In 1927 she married John R. Bourne and they lived in LeMars until moving to Iowa Falls in 1944. Baptized and raised in the Lutheran faith, Elvina spent her life as a homemaker, caring for her husband and their family of four children. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and crafts. After the death of her husband in 1969, Elvina moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she lived with her sister, Edna, until 2002. In declining health, she moved to Bloomington to live with her son, Richard, and his wife, Pat.

Survivors include her son, Richard and wife Pat of Bloomington, Ind.; two daughters, Eileen Ramey and husband Frank of Iowa Falls and Gladys Ranney and husband Don of Packwood; a sister, Edna Johannson of Tempe, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

HUBBARD - Charles A. "Chuck" Peet, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 22, at Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard with the Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial followed at the Alden Cemetery in Alden.

Chuck was born Sept. 17, 1921, to Edward W. and Nellie H. (Hogeland) Peet in Alden. He graduated from Alden High School on May 24, 1939. Chuck was united in marriage to Betty Irene Reynolds at Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden on Nov. 11, 1944. To this union three children were born. Chuck began Peet Plumbing and Heating in Hubbard on April 1, 1947, and was active in the business for 54 years. He served on numerous boards, both church and civic. On Sept. 17, 1966, he joined the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Chuck was also a 50-year member of the Masons and Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his three children, Pat Semmelrogge of Stafford, Texas, Sue Seay of Antioch, Calif., and Ed Peet of Hubbard; six grandchildren, Geoff and Kate Semmelrogge of Stafford, Texas, Erin Seay of San Diego, Calif., Shannon Seay of Antioch, Calif., Celena Peet of Lafayette, Calif., and Timothy Peet of Cedar Falls; and four sisters, Mary Panek, Phyllis Marsh, Shirley Baker and Virginia Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; two brothers, George and Wilbur Peet; and five sisters, Ileen, Helen, Barb, Carol and Olive.

Addie was born June 10, 1916, in Rock Rapids, the daughter of Harold James and Letty Marie (Dutro) Sutcliffe. She attended Clear Lake School and on Oct. 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Payne in Sioux Falls, S.D. Addie was a homemaker and enjoyed singing, music, playing cards and bowling. She was a member of Hansell United Methodist Church where she was very active when able.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Nangle and husband Thomas of Mason City, Phyllis Armstrong and husband Kenneth of Hampton, and Jean Marie Payne of Mason City; two sisters; and five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and an infant son.

Wilma was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Franklin County, the daughter of Jerry and Bernadine (Dannen) Ammerman. She attended rural Alexander country schools. On Nov. 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ernest Boelkes in Alexander. They farmed in the Alexander and Latimer areas. She also helped her husband run the Ernie's Conoco Station in Latimer from 1976 to 1983. She was then a laundress with Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls and also in Sheffield. Wilma enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her granddaughter, Nikki, who lived with her. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the Nazarene Church Circle.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Boelkes of Ackley, and three grandchildren, Nikki Boelkes of Iowa Falls, Steven Wheeler of Webster City and Tery Rumans of Ackley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

IOWA FALLS-Lester Ira Ingle, 90, of Iowa Falls died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Falls with the Rev. Don Preston officiating. Burial followed at the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Lester was born May 25, 1914, in Runnells, the son of Chas and Electa G. (Miller) Ingle. He attended country grade school and graduated the Runnells High School with the class of 1931. On June 26, 1936, he was united in marriage to Verda Louise Williams in Prairie City. Verda died April 2, 1995. On Jan. 5, 1996, Les was united in marriage to Margaret R. Hage in Radcliffe. Les was employed by DX Oil as a tank wagon operator, then in the DX office as a territorial manager, retiring from DX in 1972. He was then employed as a salesman for Lee Wayne, retiring again in 1982. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Falls, the Senior Citizen Bowling Association, and a former member of the Iowa Falls Lions Club, and both the Radcliffe and Iowa Falls Kiwanis clubs. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and in his earlier years, antiquing.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ingle of Iowa Falls; his three sons, Keith Ingle and wife Beverly of Burleson, Texas, Ron Ingle and wife Janyce of Iowa Falls, and Dale Ingle and wife Sharon of North Liberty; three stepchildren, Betty Ann Danger and husband George, Ron Hage and wife Denise of Muscatine, and Kathy Hage of Mason City; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin Ingle and wife Melda of Vandalia, and Vern Ingle and wife Nora Lee of Swan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Louise; two grandchildren, Michael Wood and Belinda Ingle; one sister; and six brothers.

Elizabeth O'Donnell

LAVERNE, Calif. - Elizabeth "Betty" O'Donnell, 91, of Claremont, Calif., formerly of Williams, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Woods Health Services in LaVerne, Calif. Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams with the Rev. John R. Flaherty and the Rev. Rick Dagit officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Betty was born June 25, 1913, in West Branch, to Howard and Jessie (Blackburn) Jones. She graduated from Westtown Friends School in Westtown, Pa., and Grinnell College. She taught high school math and science and coached girls' basketball in Colo, where Betty met her future husband, James L. O'Donnell. The couple married May 24, 1937, in Colo. They settled in Williams where they owned and operated a grocery store until 1977. Betty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been active in St. Anne's study club.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane O'Donnell of Claremont, Calif.; two sons, Martin J. O'Donnell and wife Kitty of Indianapolis, Ind., and James L. O'Donnell Jr. and partner Michael Ginther of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandsons, Patrick W. O'Donnell and wife Allie of Indianapolis, and Michael J. O'Donnell and wife Mary of Chicago, Ill.; two granddaughters, Kathleen S. O'Donnell of Indianapolis and Emma O'Donnell Ginther of San Francisco; and four sisters, Martha Oelke of Grinnell, Esther Jensen of Iowa City, Ruth Newlin of Des Moines, and Elinor Cloe and husband Darwin of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers.

Irene Muehling

IOWA FALLS-Irene Muehling, 83, of Iowa Falls died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard with the Rev. John Attaway and the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Burial will follow at Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard. Relatives and friends are invited to join for lunch and fellowship in the Zion Fellowship Hall following the service.

Irene was born June 2, 1921, in Hubbard. She was one of four children born to William and Elsie (Bunte) Muehling. Her family moved to a farm northwest of Iowa Falls where she attended school at the Maple Grove No. 7 Rural School. She had several different jobs over her life, but most of her life was spent as a housekeeper for Walter Kelderhouse. After Walter's death, she moved into Iowa Falls and was employed by General Publishing and Binding of Iowa Falls, Weaver's Limestone Quarry of Alden and Riverside Book and Bible of Iowa Falls. Irene was a member of Lee Center Methodist Church in rural Iowa Falls, where she was involved with the Lee Center UMW. She was also involved with Iowa Falls Church Women United, volunteered at the Iowa Falls Thrift Shop and participated with Maple Grove Willing Workers. She was a resident advocate at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls and also volunteered at the Heritage Care Center. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors.

Survivors include her sister, Esther Stalzer of Iowa Falls; three nephews, Dennis Stalzer and wife Kate of Austin, Texas, Dean Stalzer and wife Cindy of Iowa Falls, and Mark Stalzer of Haltom City, Texas; and two nieces, Susan Johnson and husband Dusty and Jayne Bennett and husband Dennis, all of Iowa Falls, along with many other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marie, and an infant brother.

Robert S. Bushman

BUFFALO CENTER-Robert S. "Bob" Bushman, 70, of Buffalo Center, formerly of Houston, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.  Memorial services will be Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Alden Cemetery in Alden.

Bob was born Aug. 4, 1934, in McCallsburg the son of Erwin and Josephine (Lutterman) Bushman. He was raised and educated in the Iowa Falls area where he was a 1952 graduate of Iowa Falls High School. Following school he moved to Houston, Texas, where he was an auto mechanic for several area car dealers for many years. He later became the service manager at Ingersol-Rand in Houston. He worked in construction with Ingersol-Rand for many years before retiring and moving to Buffalo Center in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Bushman of Buffalo Center; two daughters, Patty Bushman of Houston, Texas, and Kathy Anderson and husband the Rev. Mark of Sealy; one granddaughter; two brothers, James Bushman and wife Marlene of Crystal Lake, and William Bushman of Missouri; two sisters, Lynda Risse and husband Dennis of Hubbard, and Kay Rader and husband Sam of Poulsbo, Wash.; half-sister Pam Richards and husband Ken of Sioux City; stepson Allen Marnholtz and wife Mary Ellen of Wausau, Wis.; stepdaughter Gail Bloch and husband Bryan of Athens, Wis.; and stepmother Pat Bremer and husband Arnold of Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Bushman and sister Ann Bushman.

Anna was born Dec. 17, 1912, in Grundy County, rural Wellsburg, the daughter of Henry H. and Minnie (Haan) Hook. She received her education at Pleasant Valley No. 4 rural country school. On Feb. 14, 1934, Anna was united in marriage to Philip Ridder in Ackley. After their marriage they farmed in rural Grundy County and in 1945 moved to the current farm, where they remained. Anna was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church where she had been active in the ladies' society. She enjoyed needlework, reading and cooking. She loved living on the farm.

Survivors include by a daughter Marlys Kruse and husband Harold of Wellsburg; two sons Robert Ridder and wife Rita of Hazelton; and Merle Ridder and wife Janell of Waterloo; five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Philip, in 1956; one brother John Hook; and one sister Jennie Rewerts.

Anna was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the Ladies Society. She embroidered a lot in her younger years. Anna was a good cook and made wonderful pies for all of her family. She loved living on the farm and she loved dogs. Anna also enjoyed reading.

She is survived by one daughter Marlys Kruse and her husband Harold of Wellsburg, Iowa; two sons Robert Ridder and his wife Rita of Hazelton, Iowa; and Merle Ridder and his wife Janell of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip in 1956; one brother John Hook; and one sister Jennie Rewerts.


Mildred Bentley

ACKLEY-Mildred Lucille Bentley, 85, of Ackley died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 28, at the St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley followed by a graveside service at the Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield. Memorials may be directed to Fred Bentley, 28 N. Westminster St., Iowa City, IA 52245.

Mildred was born July 19, 1919, in Lovilia, the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Sheppard) Woodruff. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1937 and was united in marriage to Lowell Bentley on April 13, 1941, in Plainfield. Mildred was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Heritage Society, PEO Chapter BN of Ackley, Crescent Club, Bridge Club and the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts and was one of the original Heritage Quilters at the Ackley Heritage Center.

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis Bentley and wife Pam of Houston, Texas, and Fred Bentley and wife Linda of Iowa City; granddaughter Jessica Bentley of Iowa City; and a brother, Lowell Woodruff and wife Jeri of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lowell.
