 Eleanor Jensen

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor "Ellie" Jensen of Owatonna, MN, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Owatonna with Rev. Edward McGrath officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.

Friends were to greet the family on Monday, September 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna with a Catholic Daughter Rosary at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral liturgy on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church. An additional Catholic Daughter's Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 1:30 at St. Joseph Church.

Brick-Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna, MN handled the arrangements.

Eleanor, 79, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Owatonna Hospital.

Eleanor Jensen was born March 24, 1927, the daughter of Joseph L. and Alice E. (Matejcek) Wanous in rural Steele County. Ellie attended country school in Somerset Township and later was a member of the graduating class of 1943 at Owatonna High School. After high school she worked at Jostens in the accounting department where she met her future husband Guy.

On October 29, 1947, she married Guy F. Jensen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. The couple made their home in Owatonna and Ellie was a homemaker for her family while the children were growing up. Later she worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Mc Enaney and Dr. Floersch and retired after 23 years of service.

 
 

Ellie was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Historical Society, and St. Joseph Church. Her life interests include music, playing piano, flower gardening, playing bridge, entertaining in her home, baking, sewing, and volunteering at church.

Ellie is survived by her children Gregory (Theresa) Jensen of Owatonna, Polly Ann (Richard) Jones of Cresco, and Alice (Kurt) Meyer of Paradice Valley, AZ; grandchildren: Erin (Mark) Edel, Joel (Shannon) Jensen, Christina (Mark) Von Bank; Adam, Geoff Jones; Briana, Kendra, Zach, and Matt Meyer; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy in 1995; and two brothers: Don and Roman Wanous.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert E. Mulick of Elma was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Elma.

Robert, 83, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Colonial Manor in Elma.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie O'Shea of Decorah will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, September 20 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Bluffton. Interment will be held in St. Bridget's Church Cemetery in Bluffton.

Marie, 88, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Derrick Schaitel

Funeral services for Derrick Schaitel of Montrose, MN, formerly of Cresco and Ridgeway will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Interment will be held in New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 21 at the Conway Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Derrick, 22, died Monday, September 18, 2006 at the Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by his mother: Teresa Schaitel of Cresco.

Lewis Meyer

Funeral services for Lewis J. Meyer of Spillville, IA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado with Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiating. Organist was Richard Vagts, guitarist was Blaine Woodson, his grandson. The soloist was Don Dilaura singing "On Eagles Wings", "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Nearer My God To Thee" sang at the gravesite. Pallbearers were: Robet Bily, Howard Lensing, Loren Kuennen, Joe Lensing, Dale Blocker, and Kermit Oakland. Interment was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Clermont.

Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, IA handled the arrangements.

Lewis, 67, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lewis John Meyer was born February 11, 1939 the son of Truman and Georgia (Woodson) Meyer. He was baptized March 12, 1939 and confirmed April 6, 1952 at St. Peter in Eldorado. Lewis grew up on the family farm near Eldorado and attended the Dover Country School near Eldorado.

On October 25, 1958, he married Elaine Ruroden. They had three children, Lewis Jr., Mark, and Lisa. Lewis worked for Fayette County and farmed near Castalia for several years.

On June 19, 1981, he married Kathleen (McNeil) Ott with whom he shared the rest of his life. He worked for Dessel's Furniture in West Union, Reilly Construction of Ossian, and Featherlite Trailers of Cresco. He also owned/operated the Sportsmans Bar in Spillville for several years and in recent years worked as a carpenter.

 
 

Lewis brought immense joy to his family. He loved his grandchildren more than anything and was happiest when they were around. Put him on his pontoon with a fishing pole, his grandkids, and friends, and he was a happy man. Lewis was a true Vikings fan, even if they weren't winning that week. Lewis met his disease head on with determination and never lost hope. He was an inspiration to his family and many people whose lives he touched. He taught them the meaning of courage. He was the bravest person they've ever known.

He is survived by his wife Kathy of Spillville.; a daughter: Lisa Gerleman (Doug Thompson) of Clermont; two sons: Lewis Jr. (fiancee Lori Freeman) of Platte City, MO, and Mark (Brenda) of East Dubuque, IL; three stepdaughters: Carolyn (Kevin) Hemesath of Ossian, Deborah (Doug) Thorsen of Coon Rapids, MN, and Christine (Lee) Woodson of Ossian; grandchildren: Kendra, Karissa, and Kandis Gerleman, Stacey and Mitchell Meyer, Jeremy Quario, Codey and Alysha Meyer, Travis and Nicole Rovang, and Blaine and Kyle Woodson; a sister: Carol DeVoe of Oelwein; a brother-in-law: Joe Chihak of Elma; mother-in-law: Corinne McNeil of Postville; two sisters-in-law: Mary Jo Macken of North Liberty and Virginia (Ed) Barnes, Cedar Rapids; and brother-in-law: Tom (Susan) McNeil, Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Marvin (Mike) Meyer; two sisters: Dawn Van Scayoc and Marlene Chihak; his father-in-law: Joe McNeil.


 

Ursula Lenard
 

 

Funeral services for Ursula M. Lenard of Rochester, MN were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Notre Dame Parish, Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, IA with Rev. Richard J. Ament officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Friends were to call one hour before services at the church.

Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, IA handled the arrangements.

Ursula, 83, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Madonna Towers Skilled Nursing Facility in Rochester.

Ursula Mary Lenard was born April 9, 1923 on a farm in Howard County, IA, the daughter of Wenzel and Mary (Urban) Shimek. Ursula was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Lourdes. She attended the rural school, graduating from Assumption High School, Cresco in 1941.

Ursula went on to school at Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, graduating as an RN. She pursued a career in nursing, working in Oregon, Cresco, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Ursula was one of the first employees at IBM, Rochester, working for IBM over 30 years at various IBM sites around the United States.

 
 

Ursula married Gene Lenard on May 5, 1989, at St. John's Parish in Rochester.

Ursula was a member of St. John's Catholic Parish and the Rosary Society in Rochester. Ursula was also member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for many years at St. Mary's Hospital.

She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, as well as many other crafts. Ursula enjoyed traveling both here and abroad, as well as talking with people.

She is survived by her husband: Gene of Burnsville, MN; three step children: Tom Lenard of Marshfield, WI, Mary Lenard of Minneapolis, MN and Jane (Jim) Kretsch of Minneapolis, MN; her sister: Pelagia Shimek of Decorah; nieces and nephews: Lorayne (George) Stastney, Arletta (Donald) O'Hearn, Elmarie Wendel, Alan (Joyce) Wendl, David Wendel, Mary (Jim) Thorn; and nephews widow: Dr. Jacelyn Shimek.

Ursula was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Gertrude (John) Wendel and Gabriella Shimek; one brother: Paul (Valborg) Shimek; and nephew: Dr. Maurice Shimek.
