Funeral services for Joseph Pavlovec of Calmar were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.
Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville. Pallbearers were: Jeff Busta, Bill Busta, Norbert Busta, Jamie Busta, Mike Klimesh, Marvin Busta, Mark Klimesh, and Chuckie Klimesh. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Joseph, 92, died Friday, November 1, 2002 at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah of complications from a heart condition.
Joseph Frank Pavlovec was born March 19, 1910 on the Snyder-Lebl family farm west of Spillville, the son of Vaclav and Mary (Snyder) Pavlovec. He attended country school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. He had to take over farming before finishing eighth grade when his father was killed in an accident. He also began at 16 helping Charlie Klimesh at his Ford garage. At 19 he wrote to Iowa State College to learn about alfalfa and using crushed limestone as fertilizer. He opened his first quarry at the home farm, hauling rock in a wheelbarrow to a 'crusher'.
On November 4, 1938 he married Idella Swehla. They lived on the home farm until March 1942 when the family moved to Calmar because of the growing business, J.F. Pavlovec Rock Company, which produced agricultural limestone and crushed rock for roads.
He learned to play the concertina. Collecting antique farm items, cars, trucks, and machines was another hobby. He donated a "Yellow Baby" steam engine to the Mabel-Hesper Museum.
He was a member and officer of Iowa Limestone Producers Association. He was a member of Catholic Workmen and a charter member of Calmar Lions Club and South Winneshiek Country Club.
He is survived by his wife Idella; two daughters: Becky Fenger of Phoenix, AZ and Janelle of Calmar; and one grandson.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters: Anna Klimesh, Viola Busta, and Margie Pavlovec.
Barry Klapperich
A private viewing was held earlier this week and cremation has taken place for Barry Klapperich of Whitefish, MT.
A memorial service, officiated by Tim Bartholomew took place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 at Stillwater Free Lutheran Church in Kalispell, MT. Another service will be held later this month in Meyer, Iowa.
Barry, 49, died Saturday, November 2, 2002 from complications of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Barry Klapperich was born July 23, 1953 at Osage, the son of Lawrence and Esther Klapperich. He grew up on the family farm near Stacyville. He attended school in Meyer and St. Ansgar.
On December 15, 1979 he married Beverly Fisher in Riceville. They moved to Montana in 1981 and made their home in Whitefish.
Barry was a guide on horseback tours in Glacier National Park, did ranch work, trained horses, and shod horses. He also guided hunting and fishing trips into the Bob Marshall and Great Bear Wilderness areas. He and his wife owned and operated Spring Prairie Garden in Whitefish. They were vendors at both Kalispell and Whitefish Farmers Markets.
He is survived by his wife Bev; one daughter: Tina of Whitefish, MT; his parents: Lawrence and Esther of Stacyville; two brothers: Owen of Kalispell, MT and Reid of Stacyville; and two sisters: Rose Schubert of Austin, MN and Dorette Fravel of Cresco.
Barry was preceded in death by one daughter: Julie; and an infant sister: Judy.
Velma Drilling

Velma, 89, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a lengthy illness.
She is survived by four sons: Daryl of St. Lucas, Loras of Waucoma, Earl of Waucoma, and Jack of Decorah; two daughters: Darlyn Schmitt of Waucoma and Sue Ann Pedersen of Hastings, MN; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister: Adeline Broihier of Sumner.
Virgil Schwickerath
Funeral services Virgil Schwickerath of New Hampton were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11 at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Center, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating.
Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Virgil's wife and four children placed the pall. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Todd Schwickerath, Toby Schwickerath, Josh Schwickerath, Chad Humpal, Justin Humpal, Nick Humpal, Mike Humpal, Chad Steinlage, and Wade Steinlage. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters: Sandi Lavelle, Jenni Bearman, Kayla Schwickerath, Jessica Schwickerath, Trista Humpal, Kim Humpal, Emily Meyer, Lyndsey Manderfield, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus. Virgil, 79, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at his home of cancer.
Virgil Schwickerath was born June 8, 1923 on his parents farm near North Washington, the son of Herman and Katie (Dockendorf) Schwickerath. He attended school at St. Mary's in North Washington and completed his education at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Lawler when his parents moved to a farm near there.
On June 25, 1946 he married Delores Schueller at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton. They lived north of New Hampton then moved to a farm near North Washington for 14 years. In 1963, they moved to their farm four miles north of New Hampton. He began driving truck for the former Iowa Parcel Co. In 1971 they moved to town. In town he began working as an electrician for New Hampton Electric, retiring in 1985. He also drove for Zip's Truck and Equipment Company until August of this year.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus.
He had many collections, including a coin collection, miniature farm equipment collection, and a truck and tractor collection.
He is survived by his wife Delores; two sons: Tom and Jim of New Hampton; two daughters: Cathy Steinlage of Lawler and Nancy Humpal of New Hampton; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ray of Fredericksburg and Mark of New Hampton; and four sisters: Florence Throndson of New Hampton, Marge Martin of Humboldt, Sr. Lucia Schwickerath O.S.B. of St. Paul, MN, and Patsy Stricke of Rochester, MN.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents.
Clinton Leuenberger
Funeral services for Clinton Leuenberger of Spillville will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson with Rev. John Moser officiating.
Interment will be in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville.

Walter, 90, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at his home from progressive supranuclear palsy.
Walter Joseph Paul Bender was born February 23, 1912 on the family farm in Hesper Township west of Locust, the son of Adam and Dora (Brandt) Bender. He attended Canoe School #6. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Locust.
On November 21, 1939 he married Doris Peterson at St. Johns Parsonage. One daughter, Beverly, was born. In 1957 their foster son, Dean, came to live with them and became a member of the family. He purchased the family farm in 1950. In January of 1986 they moved to Decorah.
He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Decorah; one daughter: Bev Heffern of Decorah; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one sister: Myrtle Barth of Decorah.
Walter was preceded in death by one son: Dean; his parents; one sister: Bessie Barth; and two brothers: Adam, Jr. and Virgil.

Eunella Dempewolf
Funeral services for Eunella Dempewolf of Waterloo were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 14 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. John Site in Waterloo.

Eunella, 91, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at her home.
Eunella R. Dempewolf was born June 19, 1911 in Cresco, the daughter of Carl E. and Rose E. (Riehle) Herold.
On April 21, 1931 she married Theodore J. Dempewolf in Cresco. He died September 29, 1986.
She is survived by four daughters: Joanne Sutton, Patricia Miller, Sandra Turner, and Cindy Verbeck, all of Waterloo; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Cyril of Oskaloosa and Elmore and Edward, both of Waterloo; and three sisters: Ruth Ratkovich of Waterloo, Luella Burnikel of Cresco, and Lillian Daughenbaugh of Downey, CA.
Eunella was preceded in death by her husband Theodore; one son: Arden; two daughters: Janice Dempewolf and Karen Scully; one brother: Wilford; and one sister: Rose Harkness.
Bernard Blackburn
Cremation was provided by Prock Funeral Home.
There was no formal memorial ceremony; ashes were scattered over The Memorial Wildflower Garden at his home.
Bernard, 80, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Bernard P. Blackburn was born January 27, 1922 in Cresco, the son of Patrick and Regina Blackburn. He was a United States Marine Veteran serving in the South Pacific.
In 1945 he married Georgia Horejs in Anoka, MN where their nine children were raised. They owned and operated the Blackburn-Horejs Funeral Home in Anoka for many years. In the late 1960's he made a career shift to become a counselor for the chemically dependent and their families. He moved to Eau Claire in 1970 where he met Randee. They were married in May of 1983.
During is 21 years of employment in Eau Claire, Bernie was involved in developing the detoxification unit at Sacred Heart Hospital, managed and provided counseling for the AODA Treatment Unit at the Eau Claire county Hospital, and established the first state certified psychiatric clinic-based AODA program in Wisconsin, for the Northwest Psychiatric Clinic.
He is survived by his wife Randee; first wife Georgia; children: Susan, Sean, Steven, Sarah, Samuel, Sandra, Scott, Seth, and Stanford; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother: John.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Lowell and Gerald.

Clinton, 80, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at his home following a short illness.
Clinton Monroe Leuenberger was born July 8, 1922, the son of Monroe and Amelia (Frey) Leuenberger on the family farm near Fort Atkinson. He attended Fort Atkinson Public Schools, graduating in 1942.
On September 18, 1944 he married Mary Silhacek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. They farmed all of their lives and retired in the early 1990s and moved to Spillville. Clinton had one of the top Guernsey dairy herds in the state of Iowa. In 1981, he received the Iowa distinguished Dairyman Award; in 1989 he was named the Winneshiek County Pioneer Dairyman; in 1996 was named the Iowa Pioneer Guernsey Breeder and had been a member of the National Dairy Shrine since 1975. He served on the Winneshiek County Extension Foundation and was a 4-H leader for 25 years. He also served on the REC Board of Directors for over 30 years and served as secretary for a majority of those years.
He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson and a longtime choir member.
He loved to golf and also enjoyed playing his guitar.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Spillville; three daughters: Sharon Kleve of Calmar, Anita Stock of Altoona, and JoAnn Martin of Louisville, KY; one son: Jim of Shawano, WI; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Arlene Shindelar of LeClaire and Marjorie Walker of Rockford.
Clinton was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents; and one brother: Carl.
Dell Reicks
Funeral services for Dell Reicks of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 at the Notre Dame Parish - St. Joseph's Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar presiding and Rev. John Moser concelebrating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. The three sons placed the pall. Honorary pallbearers were: Dale and Marcella Keune, Robert and Ione Bronner, Greg and Delores Augustine, Ray and Ruth Langreck, and Charles Nast. Pallbearers were grandsons: Andy and Mike Ludeking, Matt and Seth Tentis, Adam Fraser, Scott Fjelstul, and Kyle and Nathan Reicks. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Dell, 71, was pronounced dead on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at the Sarnia General Hospital in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
Delphine Roman Reicks was born April 17, 1931 in Howard County, just outside of Cresco, the son of Raymond Henry and Mary Ann (Baumler) Reicks. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco and attended St. Joseph's grade school. After his schooling, he stayed home to help his family on the farm.
On April 22, 1952 he married Monica Anne Lowe at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. They first lived with his father, Ray, until they started farming on their own. They rented two different farms before purchasing a farm north of Cresco. In 1982 Dell's health forced him to discontinue farming and move to Cresco.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Worship Center, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Council #1571 of the Knights of Columbus, and the Farm Bureau.
He liked to play cards, family genealogy, and dealing cars. He loved to drive and found he was needed by his Amish friends to take them where they needed to go, which was what he was doing when he suffered the heart attack.
He is survived by his wife Monica; three sons: Tom of Shakopee, MN, Robert of Cresco, and Pat of Cresco; five daughters: Kathleen Tentis of Kellogg, MN, Karen Fraser of St. Charles, MO, Jane Fjelstul of Ridgeway, Mary Ludeking of Ridgeway, and Carol Kovarik of Fort Atkinson; 16 grandchildren; one sister: Tarsilla Hyberger of Cresco; and two brothers: Denis D and Nestor, both of Cresco.
Dell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Cleo; and two sisters: Geneva Houdek and Rufina Lickteig.
Anita Opat
Private family services for Anita Opat of Schley will be held with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Schley.

Anita, 65, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at her home of cancer.
Anita Opat was born August 1, 1937 in rural Winneshiek County, the daughter of Edwin and Marie "Mayme" (Busta) Vrba. She received her elementary education in both Protivin and rural country schools. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1956. She began working as a telephone operator in Protivin.
On June 18, 1957 she married Raphael Opat at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. She had been employed by a Cresco nursing home, the local cheese company in Schley and was a Head-Start aid before she began teaching in the Head-Start Program. Anita attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmettsburg for two years, studying hotel/motel management. Following college, she worked for the Kahler Hotel in Rochester, MN and also the Jumers Hotel in Bettendorf. Raphael died on November 16. 1976. She later moved back to Schley where she did daycare and babysitting.
She enjoyed painting, crafts, and reading.
She is survived by two sons: Dennis and Dan, both of Schley; two daughters: Julie Opat and Jane Opat of Madison, WI; and two sisters: Maxine Gleason of Gilbertville and Janice Schaufenbuel of Tripoli.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband Raphael and her parents.
Clifford Hentges
Funeral services for Clifford Hentges of Alta Vista were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista with Rev. John Hemann officiating.
Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista. Clifford's daughter and son-in-law along with his granddaughter Michelle Fisher placed the pall. Pallbearers were: Leo Pospichal, Joe Pospichal, Jim Hentges, Jack Hentges, Jerry Hentges, and Ron Newsum. Honorary pallbearers were: Knights of Columbus Council 4144 of Elma. Clifford, 89, died Friday, November 15, 2002 at the Colonial Manor in Elma of natural causes.
Clifford Nicholas Hentges was born January 13, 1913 at Alta Vista, the son of Peter and Susan (Lentz) Hentges. He received his schooling from St. Williams Catholic School in Alta Vista. Following school he worked for the W.P.A. Then in 1936 he went to work for Brady Transfer and Storage in Ft. dodge until 1940 when he purchased the DX Station in Alta Vista.
On June 6, 1938 he married Evelyn Jacoby at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista. In 1949 he sold the station and worked for the City of Alta vista as a maintenance worker. He retired in 1975.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council 4144.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by one daughter: Sandy Meleney of Mason City; one granddaughter; four brothers: Elroy of Alta Vista, Clement of Ft. Dodge, Robert of Mason City, and Paul of Alta Vista; and two sisters: Maxine Neuhauser of Arcadia, CA and Mary Lou Pospichal of Riceville.
Clifford was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn on February 13, 1993; his parents; and one brother: Reynold.
Mabel Nosbisch
Funeral services for Mabel Nosbisch of New Hampton will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, November 20 at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's Center in New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating.

Mabel, 81, died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton of natural causes.
Mabel Nosbisch was born July 15, 1921 in rural Houston County, MN near Eitzen, the daughter of Fred and Freda (Gade) Wiemerslage. She attended rural country schools just across the Iowa border in Allamakee County.
On August 19, 1957 she married Leo Nosbisch at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Caledonia, MN. They made their home in New Hampton. Mabel was a homemaker. Leo died July 17, 1972.
She enjoyed the outdoors with her gardens, flowers, and fishing.
Mabel became a resident of the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in October of 1994. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and Rosary Society.
She is survived by one son: Dennis of New Hampton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Leo; her parents; three brothers: Roy, Norman, and Raymond; and four sisters: Irma Weing, Ruby Monson, Edna Wiemerslage, and Lillian Hansmier.
Dean Johnson
Memorial services for Dean Johnson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23 at Green field Lutheran Church, Harmony, MN.
Dean, 56, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Seasons Hospice, Rochester, MN from cancer.
He is survived by two brothers: his twin Dale of Stewartville, MN and Duaine of Canton, MN; and two sisters: Lonna Kerns of Byron, MN and Lori Martinek of Cresco.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Arlone (Wahl) Johnson.
Elsie Erickson

Elsie, 92, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah following a long illness.
Elsie F. Erickson was born March 16, 1910 in Canoe Township, rural Decorah, the daughter of Ben and Phoebe (Dinger) Duemmer. She attended country school and Decorah High School. Elsie worked at Wapsie Produce from September 30, 1936 until she retired in 1974.
On October 23, 1946 she married Chester Erickson at the First Methodist Church, Decorah.
In 1986, she fell and has been at the nursing home ever since.
She loved her dogs, animals, and gardening.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and member of the Canoe Methodist Cemetery Association.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1992 and her parents.

Gladys Haven
Funeral services for Gladys Haven of Cresco will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30 at the United Methodist Church in Cresco.
Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.

Gladys, 97, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Gladys Jeanette Haven was born June 12, 1905 in Howard County near Foreston, the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary Anne Williams. She graduated from Lime Springs High School.
On December 27, 1925 she married Percy Haven. They moved to Cresco in 1934.
She was a member of the Cresco Methodist Church, a charter member of the Goodwill Club, the Women's Society and church circle. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Easter Star and also active in the Twentieth Century Club and the A-Z Sewing Club.
She is survived by one son: Burnell of Independence; one daughter: Helen Hammond of Rochester; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters: Berdie and Esther.
Margaret Marion

Margaret, 94, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Hiawatha Care Center of natural causes..
Margaret M. Marion was born May 20, 1908 on her parents farm near North Washington, the daughter of Joseph and Lena (Freidhof) Huegel. She received her education and graduated from St. Mary's School in North Washington. After high school Margaret worked at the courthouse in Winona, MN.
On September 28, 1937 she married Wendell Max Marion at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. They lived in North Washington. She was involved in the early years helping Comprehensive Systems get started. She was associated with the ARC, volunteering many hours helping the handicapped. She was an accomplished seamstress.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Joan of Arc, the Immaculate Concetption Catholic Church and Rosary Society.
She is survived by two sons: John of Mt. Vernon and Jim of Cedar Rapids; two daughters: Joan Petrich of Chicago and Susan Marion of New Hampton; eight grandchildren; and two sisters: Romana Lentz and Rita Burgart of New Hampton.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Wendell on October 24, 1983; one son: Joseph in 1969; one daughter: Maryann Lemme in 1998; two brothers: Leo and Leonard; and four sisters: Clara Huegel, Sr. Mary Lucille Huegel, Olivia Orthaus, and Lucille Nosbisch.
Mildred Caffrey
Private funeral services for Mildred Caffrey formerly of McIntire were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville with Rev. Michael Carey officiating.
Interment was in Clar Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake.
Mildred, 89, died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville.
Mildred Margaret Caffrey was born July 16, 1913 at Ventura, the daughter of John C. and Maude (Thomas) Grell. She attended school at Ventura Consolidated School and graduated in 1931. After graduation she atttended Iowa State Teacher's College and taught in a rural school during the 1931-32 school year.
On August 5, 1933 she married Virgil Caffrey at New Hampton. During the teacher shortage she reurned to college and taught for 35 years. The last 19 years she taught at Caledonia, MN. Virgil passed away in 1967 and she continued to live in McIntire.
She loved her flowers and was an ardent quilter.
She is survived by two daughters: Leora Huddleston of McIntire and Geri Martin of Schaller; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Ruby Barlow of Mason City.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband; two granddaughters; one step-son: Darrell Caffrey; her parents; two brothers: Carl and Walter; and three sisters: Alice Barton, Nettie Zook, and Cora Spurrier.
Bruce Roethler
Funeral services for Bruce Roethler of Elma were held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Riceville with Rev. Michael Parris officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mark, Paul, and James Roethler, Nicholas and Curtis Koebrick, Keith Titus, and Kelly Meyer. Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Bruce, 40, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Colonial Manor Home in Elma.
Bruce Edward Roethler was born February 15, 1962 at Des Moines, the son of Donald and Lavonne (Worple) Roethler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Riceville. He lived with his parents and sister on farms between Riceville and Elma and attended school in Riceville.
In June of 1991, at the age of 29, he was severly injured in a car accident that left him totally disabled. At the time of his death he was a resident of Colonial Manor Home.
He is survived by three sons: Mark of Elma, Paul stationed with the U.S. Navy in Washington state, and James of Hampton; one grandson; his mother: Lavonne of Riceville; and one sister: Brenda Schroetter of Lime Springs.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father.
Virgil Novak
Funeral services for Virgil Novak were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax with Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Teahen Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Virgil, 85, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at West Ridge Care Center following a long illness.
Virgil G. Novak was born June 14, 1917 in Cresco, the son of Henry and Anna (Hovorka) Novak.
On November 20, 1939 he married Myrtle Bertha Leitz in Cresco. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was the owner/operator of Novak LP Gas Service for 30 years retiring in 1979.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and flying his own airplane.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle; one son: Charles of Marietta, GA; one daughter: Linda Rybak of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother: Leonard.
Vivian Sanderson
Funeral services for Vivian Sanderson of Ridgeway were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway with Rev. Philip and Ginny Olson officiating.
Interment was in Sanderson Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Pallbearers were: Terry Miester, Bruce Gunhus, Wayne Lepa, Jan Dansdill, David Sanderson, and Richard Sanderson. Schluter Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Vivian, 88, died Monday, November 18 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah after a long illness.
Vivian Margaret Sanderson was born April 13, 1914 near Lime Springs, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Kintz) Stockdale. She was baptized at the Methodist church in Lime Springs. Vivian was confirmed in August of 1932 by Pastor H.M. Norman of the Ridgeway United Lutheran Church. She attended the schools near Lime Springs graduating from the eighth grade.
On July 27, 1932 she married Alton Sanderson in Decorah. They farmed on the Sanderson farm near Ridgeway. They later moved to Ridgeway until Alton's death on March 31, 1998. Vivian then became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Vivian worked at the Luther College Food Service and Wapsie Produce in Decorah.
She enjoyed needlepoint, sewing, quilting, and dancing.
She was a member of Ridgeway Lutheran Church and then Peace Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ruth Circle. For many years Vivian and Alton took care of the Sanderson Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter: Shirley Meister of Riverside, CA; one son: Harlan of Eastman, WI; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters: Leone Hein of Gold Bar, WA, Maxine Morrison and Gen McNiff of Austin, MN, and June Fagerlie of Cresco; and one brother: Robert of Austin, MN.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Alton; one daughter: Virginia Gunhus; her parents; two brothers: Reed and Charles; and one sister: Hazel Lindy.
