Yvonne Smith

Yvonne Smith, 74, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away February 14, 2011, at her home in Hampton, Iowa.

She was born October 29, 1936, in Dumont, Iowa, to Heinie and Jennie (Krull) Siems. Yvonne graduated from the Dumont High School in 1954. She married Vernon Smith on September 12, 1964, at the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. Yvonne was a waitress in various local restaurants.

She enjoyed reading, “making memories”, with family and friends and quietly helping others.

She is survived by her sister Twila (Jim) Kerr of Hampton, sister-in-law Edith (Richard) Frank of Algona, brother-in-law David (Janette) Smith of Texas, niece Peggy Allison of Hampton, niece Kim Brocka of Alden, nephew Mike Kerr of Mason City, nephew Matt Kerr of Allison, plus many other nieces and nephews and a host of great & great greatnieces and nephews.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son Mark.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Pastor Rocky Woolery of the Church of Christ in Hampton officiated the service. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton was in charge of arrangements.


Mariam Cora Johnson

Mariam Cora Johnson, daughter of George and Rena (Leete) Wilder, was born on May 31, 1920 near Allison, Iowa.

She passed away on February 22, 2011, at the Gowrie Care Center at the age of ninety years. Mariam graduated from Allison High School in 1937. She attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for one year, AIB Business College in Des Moines and worked for the State Controllers’ Office. Mariam was united in marriage to Glen H. Johnson on December 7, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple established their home on a farm east of Gowrie.

She was employed as a secretary for the Prairie Community School Board for 27 years. Mariam was a member of the Lanyon Covenant Church and held many offices. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cross stitch, puzzles, and word search.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Glen “Tuffy” Johnson in 1983; step-mother Trudy Wilder; brother Reid Wilder; brothers-in-law, Bob Stumme and Ray Farmer; and nephew Craig Stumme.

Survivors include her children, Sandra Johnson of Gowrie; Allen (Patti) Johnson of Lenexa, KS; Judith (Mickey) Smith of Maryville, MO; Thomas (Diane) Johnson of Gowrie; grandchildren, Chad (Heather) Conley, Abbie (Paul) Elwood, Courtney (Tim) Blackford, Allenna (Ben) Hardin, Andrea (Grant) Franklin, Ashley Johnson, Danelle (Danny) Wood, Bob (Alyssa) Smith, and Traci Smith; great-grandchildren, Andrew Blackford, Aydan Blackford, Alex Conley, Cory Wood, Austin Wood, EmaLee Andrews, Ashleigh Lint, Emerson Elwood, Colton Hardin, Zoey Smith and Trista Smith; sister, Joyce Stumme of Iowa City; sisterin- law, Betty Farmer of Little Rock, AR; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held February 25, 2011, at Lanyon Covenant Church, Lanyon, Iowa with Pastor Marc Murchison officiating. Pianist was Linda Benson, and congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Blessed Assurance,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casket Bearers were Chad Conley, Paul Elwood, Tim Blackford, Ben Hardin, Danny Wood, and Grant Franklin. Interment was in the Lost Grove Township Cemetery, Harcourt, IA.

Memorials may be left to the Lanyon Covenant Church or Trinity Regional Hospice of Fort Dodge.

Lowell E. Newhall

Lowell E. Newhall, 88, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away February 23, 2011, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Burial took place in the Dumont Cemetery.

Connie Sue (Nelson) Lampkin

Connie Sue (Nelsen) Lampkin, 59, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away March 2, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, Iowa. Rev. Karl Bollhagen officiated the service.

Burial took place in the Hampton Cemetery.

Theodore Henry “Pete” Sinram

Theodore Henry “Pete” Sinram, age 89 of Clarksville, was born the son of Clarence “Sam” and Linda (Wedeking) Sinram, on August 25, 1921 at Clarksville.

He was baptized into the Christian faith in infancy and in his youth became a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ. Pete grew up and received his education in the Clarksville Community Schools, graduating in 1939. On November 7, 1942, he was united in marriage with Norma Speedy at Princeton, MO. To this union two sons, Theodore Jr. “Ted” and Mike were born. Norma died June 20, 1988.

Pete was first employed with the Northwestern Railroad as a Bridgeman. On November 11, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in World War II with the 316th Engineer Battalion Company C of the 91st Infantry in both Northern Africa and Italy. After the war, Pete returned to Clarksville working for the Northwestern Railroad. A short time later, he joined his father and brother, Galen “Shorty” in the family bar and restaurant known as Sinram’s Tavern and later as Pete and Shorty’s. Pete was active in community life where he was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Clarksville Commercial Club, American Legion, VFW, Amvets, and a 34 year member of the Clarksville Fire Department. He was a strong supporter of and had a keen interest in all community and school activities. Pete was proud to be on a 2009 Honor Flight to Washington DC, paying tribute to him and other WWII veterans. Pete loved the outdoors; golfing, hunting, and fishing were hobbies he truly enjoyed.

Death came to him on March 6, 2011 after a long battle with cancer reaching the age of 89.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his parents; two sisters, Lois Freesman and Malinda Sinram; and one brother, Galen “Shorty” Sinram.

Pete is survived by two sons, Ted (Mary) Sinram of Clarksville and Mike (Lois) Sinram Waterloo; six grandchildren, Shelley (Mike) McCully, Mark (Jolynn) Sinram, Kelley (Kendall) Smith, Tim (Gail) Sinram, Zac Sinram, Josh Sinram; eight great-grandchildren, Brian (Rhiannon) McCully and Ryan (Amber Kromminga) McCully, Gabrielle Sinram, Kaelan and Josie Smith, Nicholas, Brandon, and Gavin Sinram; and one great-great granddaughter, Faith McCully.

Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, with Reverend Lynne Busch and Reverend Bill Carpenter officiating. Sharon Leerhoff was the organist. Kara Groen sang “I’ll Fly Away”.

Burial was held in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, with Shelley McCully, Mark Sinram, Kelley Smith, Tim Sinram, Zac Sinram, Josh Sinram, Brian McCully and Ryan McCully serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearer was Marv Bohlen.

 Visitation was held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Redman- Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville and continued for one hour prior to services at the church.

Lawrence “Ike” Kollmann Jr.

Lawrence “Ike” Kollmann Jr., 65 of Morrison, Colorado, passed away March 5, 2011, at Bear Creek Nursing Home after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born July 5, 1945 in Charles City, Iowa to Lawrence Sr. and Doris (Smith) Kollmann. Ike attended country school and Waverly High School. In 1965, Ike was drafted into the U.S. Army and did a tour in Vietnam, serving with the 25th Infantry Division as a Bridge Specialist, until his honorable discharge in the fall of 1967.

After his return home from Vietnam, Ike married Kathi (Miller) Dana in the spring of 1969. While residing in the Clarksville, IA area, Ike worked at Bantam and the Clarksville Lumber Company. After their divorce in 1984, Ike moved to Nashua, IA and worked at Terex and GMT, while farming north of Nashua. In 1994, Ike relocated to Eagle, Colorado to be with his children and grandchildren where he worked as a welder for B &B Excavating, then later as a carpenter for Design Services Construction and then built a successful welding business with his son Nick, after his diagnosis of M.S. in 1999.

Ike loved living in Colorado and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed driving his 69’ Camaro, working on his tractors, collecting knives, shooting guns, dancing, playing softball, watching the Packers and Yankees, going to the drag races, spending time with his grandchildren and most of all, he enjoyed helping anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Kollmann formerly of Nashua, IA; sister, Marlys (Bill) Sinnwell of New Hampton, IA; brother, Doug Kollmann of Ionia, IA; sons, Tim (Wynona) Kollmann of Littleton, Colorado and Nick (Kristin) Kollmann of Coralville, IA; grandchildren, Keeli and Blake Kollmann of Littleton, Colorado.

Ike was preceded in death by; brother, Michael Manners in 1967 and father, Lawrence Kollmann Sr. in 1993.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Sunnyside Memorial Gardens, 2267 Old Highway Rd, Charles City, IA with a celebration of life immediately to follow at Heery Woods State Park South Side Lodge, 27887 – 195th Street, Clarksville, IA.

Florence Barbara Christine Hanson

Funeral services for Florence Hanson, 92, of Greene, were held Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Florence Barbara Christine Litterer was born February 22, 1919, in Nashua, Chickasaw Co., Iowa a daughter of William and Mary (Wagner) Litterer and died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. Memorials may be sent to the Florence Hanson Memorial Fund, 103 Gabel Lane, Waverly, Iowa 50677.

Vern LeRoy Jacobs

Vern LeRoy Jacobs, age 84 of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Engelbart and Ella (Hinders) Jacobs, on March 12, 1927 in Butler County, Iowa, near Clarksville. Vern received his education in rural county school at Norton’s Corner.

On July 20, 1945, Vern entered the U.S. Army where he served with the 63rd Infantry Regiment and received an Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Vern was honorably discharged on January 3, 1947. On October 12, 1947, Vern was united in marriage with Bernice Ida Margaret Wedeking at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. To this union four daughters were born. Vern & Bernice lived their entire married life together in Clarksville, where they were members of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Bernice died May 3, 1996. After serving in the Army, Vern returned to Clarksville and worked for Waverly Sand and Gravel inShell Rock as a Foreman. Vern then drove school bus for the Clarksville School District for several years until retiring in 1998.

Vern loved being outdoors; golfing, hunting, and fishing were hobbies he truly enjoyed. He was proud that he and his eight brothers had their own baseball team, “Jacobs Brothers” when they were younger. Vern especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and always took pride in watching them play sports.

Vern died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, of natural causes.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Bernice; his parents; one son-in-law, Richard Silva; one granddaughter, Stacy Stoppelmoor; two sisters, Susan Anderson and Helen Hinders; eight brothers, Bill, Jake, John, Paul, Lawrence, Ernie, Ed, and Robert.

Vern is survived by his four daughters, Lonnie (Jerry) Jans, Sandra Silva and Kathy Jacobs, all of Clarksville, Iowa and Pam (Don) Chamberlin of Cedar Falls, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Friday, March 18, 2011, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville with Pastor Lynne Busch officiating. Burial was held in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Full military honors were conducted by the Clarksville AMVET’s Post #30.

Charles Marshall “Mose” Mosher

Charles Marshall “Mose” Mosher, 90, of Allison, Iowa, passed away March 14, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa. He was born August 1, 1920, in Parkersburg, Iowa, to Hugh L. and Clara Agnes (Yost) Mosher. Charles graduated from Parkersburg High School and then attended Iowa State College and Wartburg College.

He served his country in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Charles was united in marriage to Viola M. Schrage on June 23, 1946, in Allison, Iowa. Mose was a parts manager for Allan Chevrolet Garage, was a school bus driver for the Allison-Bristow school district for over 20 years, and he owned and operated Mosher Standard Station in Allison as well as a farm products distributorship.

He was a member of the Allison Amvets and the American Legion. He played taps for Amvets for over 60 years. He played trumpet in several bands, including the United States Navy Band. Charles was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison where he was active on the church council.

As an active parent Mose participated and encouraged his children in many music and recreational activities and attended years of his children’s athletic events. He volunteered for the Allison Ambulance crew. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, bowling and golf. Mose also enjoyed traveling with his wife Vi and sister Merna to many places around the world after his children were grown.

Charles is survived by his daughter Marcia (William) Rovani of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, daughter Ellen (Scott) Hanson of Hayward, Wisconsin and Port Charlotte, Florida, daughter Marilyn (Jeff) Bodine of Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter Barbara Mosher of Big Lake, Minnesota, son Charles H. (Linda) Mosher of Allison, daughter Annie Mosher of Bloomington, Minnesota, sister Merna McDonald of Downers Grove, Illinois, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Clara and his wife Viola. Funeral services were held Friday, March 18, 2011, at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Burial took place in the Allison Cemetery.

Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiated the service. Military services were provided by the Allison Amvets. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for future disbursement.

Larry D Lursen

Larry D Lursen, 62, of rural Clarksville died at his home Friday, March 18th from complications of the treatment for lung cancer. He was born October 4, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa, son of Harm ‘Bud’ and Alice Pagel Lursen.

He married Monica Shope on February 27, 1971 at LeGrand Friends Church, LeGrand. Mr. Lursen graduated from Waverly - Shell Rock High School in 1966, continuing his education at Ellsworth Community College and then Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science in 1970.

He began his work for Armour and Company in Marshalltown and then Producers Marketing Association in Fort Wayne, Indiana before returning to the family farm in Iowa.

He was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for Butler County Mutual Insurance and the Iowa State University College of Agriculture Endowment Committee. He was a past president and long time member of the Shell Rock Lions Club. He is joined on the family farm and in Lursen Trucking by his two sons and longtime friends, Terry and Rachael Siems.

He is survived by his wife, Monica of rural Clarksville; two sons, Christopher Lursen and his fiancé, Sarah Rasmussen, of Ames, Patrick and Kimberly (Mehmen) Lursen and grandsons, Kyler and Kipton, of Janesville; a sister, Mary Lursen and her husband, Daryl Tetterton of Dubuque; a cousin and her husband, Judy and Orville Van Raden of Hampton; numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Florence Hanson

Funeral services for Florence Hanson, 92, of Greene, were held Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Christy Sue Wood

Christy Sue Wood, 57, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away March 16, 2011, at her home in Hampton, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at the Church of the Living Word in Hampton.

Pastor Jon Anderson officiated the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.

Marian Elizabeth Ressler

Marian Elizabeth Ressler was born March 10, 1912, to Earl Edward Persinger and Margaret (Martha) Baker Ullrich on a farm between Janesville and Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Persinger family moved to the Shell Rock, Iowa area and later to a farm near Grundy Center, Iowa.

She was baptized June 16, 1912, and joined the Shell Rock Methodist Church on June 8, 1924. Marian attended the rural Shell Rock Center Valley Country School for 1-8th grade and graduated in 1931 from the Shell Rock Consolidated High School. After attending Teachers College in Cedar Falls she taught two years in a Palermo Township rural school in Grundy County. She returned to teach in Butler County for the 1934-1935 school year at Central Country School east of Clarksville.

She married Carl Francis Ressler at her parent’s farm south of Grundy Center on September 29, 1936, and lived in Shell Rock until they moved to Clarksville in January of 1935, when Carl became an employee of the Iowa State Bank.

Carl passed away April 21, 1977. She was a stay-at-home home mother for several years and then assisted Carl with City Clerk duties for many years making out the town’s water bills. She also worked at the Iowa State Bank part time.

Marian was a dedicated Sunday school teacher at the Community Church and daughter, Lola was in her first SS class. She was happy to have son, Larry, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many children of the church family in her classes.

For many years Marian showed her love of working with youth through Vacation Bible School and Little League Bible Kids. She was honored to be recognized numerous times thru the years with praise and blessing awards for her outstanding church leadership.

In 2009 she attended a special Recognition Sunday Worship Service earning a certificate and thank you for her long time membership in the church beginning in 1936. She was a member of the Woman’s Society and served on the Memorial Committee.

Marian served as President of the school Band Boosters Club in the early 1950’s during the time of buying the new band uniforms. She enjoyed a longtime membership in the Embroidery Club, the oldest club organization in Clarksville.

In 1979, she built a new home at the age of 67 on Elizabeth Street on one of the lots where the old Clarksville School had stood. She lived there until moving to the Community Nursing Home in 2005. Her biggest enjoyment and love was her family. She enjoyed helping out when and where ever she could.

Her hobbies included arts and crafts projects and making photo and scrapbooks for family members. She created 100 teddy bears, made yearly Christmas tree decorations and Easter crafts, including many furry rabbits for everyone, personalized many felt and glove hand puppets, numerous decorative pillow covers and embroidered pillowcases. She stitched and sewed 200 checkered tablecloths and napkins designed with embroidery patterns of her choice and gave them as gifts to many people.

Marian died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; one great-grand child; one great great-grandchild; and a brother, Francis Persinger.

She was survived by a daughter, Lola Alice (David) Clark of Clarksville; a son, Larry Earl (Dori) Ressler of Waterloo, IA; six grandchildren, Dan (Shirley) Clark, Mike (Char) Clark and Tom (Sandee) Clark, all of Clarksville, Debra (Randy) (Ressler) Robeson of Waterloo, Dawn (Ressler) Newgren of Cedar Falls, Michelle (Ron) (Ressler) Niedert of Elgin, OK; 13 great-grandchildren, Amanda Clark (Aaron Hohl) of Des Moines, Matt Clark of Minneapolis, MN, Justin (Kris) Clark, Tiffanee Clark, Andee Clark and Byron Clark all of Clarksville, Olivia and Alexander Hottle of Waterloo, Nicole Burke of Cedar Falls, Stephanie Burke of Waterloo and Hannah Newgren of Cedar Falls, Trenton and Brandon Niedert of Elgin, OK; five great great-grandchildren, Howie Clark, Capri Clark, and Jordan Foster all of Clarksville, Caiden Bailey of Cedar Falls, and Jade Burke of Waterloo; a sister, Marge E. (Leslie) Green of Conrad, a sister-in-law, Celestine Persinger of Marshalltown; and many Persinger and Ressler family nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Community United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Iowa, and was officiated by Rev. Christine Pauley. The organist was Sharon Leerhoff, vocalist, Lee Jenison sang “In The Garden” and a variety of Marian’s favorite Sunday school songs in a medley. The congregational hymn was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” The Casketbearers were Daniel David Clark, Thomas Carl Clark, Michael Charles Clark, Debra Jo (Ressler) Robeson, Dawn Ann (Ressler) Newgren, and Michelle Lee (Ressler) Niedert and the honorary casketbearers were recognized as Marian’s Grandchildren. Interment was at the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Following the committal service each of the 18 grandchildren released a colorful helium balloon as a tribute of celebration of the life of their dearly loved Grandmother Ressler.

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Bertram

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Bertram, age 69, of Clarksville, Iowa was born the son of Fred and Carrie (Miller) Bertram on July 20, 1941, in Butler County, Iowa, near Allison. He received his education from a rural country school near his home and the Allison High School. Kenny served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was assigned to the 87th Engineer Battalion. He was drafted January 6, 1964, and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1969.

On September 12, 1966, Kenneth was united in marriage with Kathy Annette Henning in South Dakota. They made their home in Clarksville. Kenny worked for his brother Danny at Bertram Construction Company and then for PCI in Reinbeck, Iowa. His primary jobs were with heavy equipment along with construction work until he retired in 2004. To this union four children, Mike, Jeff, Jamie and Matt were born. The couple was later divorced in 1984.

In his spare time you could find him fishing at his favorite spot usually above the Clarksville Dam. Kenny enjoyed spending many hours gardening and then he would proudly sell his produce. Through the years his dogs were very special to him and he enjoyed playing with and taking them on walks. Kenny loved playing his guitar and would sing either Johnny Cash songs or sometimes he came up with his own. He also enjoyed having coffee and joking around with his friends.

Kenny passed away this past week at his home in Clarksville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice Bertram; and one brother, Scott Bertram; and one nephew, Nathan Bertram.

Kenny is survived by three sons, Mike Bertram of Dumont, Iowa, Jeff (Angie) Bertram of Dumont, Iowa, and Matt (Lori) Bertram of Whitten, Iowa; one daughter, Jamie (Terry) Crawford of Allison, Iowa; five grandchildren, Cody Bertram, Sadie Bertram, Carlee Bertram, Crystal Crawford and Camie Crawford; and three brothers, Larry (Claudia) Bertram of Kesley, Iowa, Dan (Diana) Bertram of Shell Rock, Iowa, and Ron (Terri) Bertram of Shell Rock, Iowa.

Funeral Services were held Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville with Pastor Lynne Busch officiating. Special music was “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casketbearers were Cody Bertram, Sadie Bertram, Carlee Bertram, Crystal Crawford, and Camie Crawford. Military Rites were conducted by Clarksville AMVETS, Post #30.

Lyle Emmert Scarrow

Lyle Emmert Scarrow, 94, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away March 22, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. He was born February 17, 1917, in Hampton, Iowa, to Arthur and Evelyn (Schuler) Scarrow.

Lyle attended Hansell High School. Lyle served his Country in the United Sates Navy during World War II. He married Elsie Smeins on January 6, 1945, in Crystal Lake, Iowa.

Lyle worked as a farmer. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, enjoyed his grandchildren and was a sports fan.

Lyle was a member of the Dumont American Legion and the Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife Elsie Scarrow of Hampton, daughter Virginia (Keith) Kalkwarf of Aplington, daughter Grace (John) Rosenstock of Dumont, grandson Todd (Deb) Kalkwarf, grandson Joel (Sarah) Kalkwarf, grandson Brian (Kristen) Rosenstock, greatgrandchildren Cassy, Morgan, Lexis, Kendra, Brayden and Kennedy Kalkwarf, Lyla & Aubrey Rosenstock.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Floyd, two sisters, Mary Sanders and Mona Wilson, one great granddaughter, two brother-in-laws and two sister-in-laws.

Memorial services were 10:30 held Tuesday, March 29, at the Sietsema- Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont with burial in the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery rural Ackley. Pastor Mark Young officiated the service.

Hilda May (Eichmeier) Stock

Hilda May (Eichmeier) Stock, 90, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away March 21, 2011, at the Waverly Health Center, in Waverly, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont.

Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery. Pastor Mark Young officiated the service.

Russell Peter Jensen

Russell Peter Jensen, 74, of Bristow, formerly of Coulter, Iowa, passed away January 11, 2011, at the Community Living Center at the Vets Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.

In honor of his 75th birthday, a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Hampton, Iowa.

 A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor David Bernhardt will officiate the service. Inurnment will take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Hampton.

Kenneth James Kettwig

Kenneth James Kettwig, 68, formerly of Clarksville, died at his home in Ash Fork, Arizona on March 17, 2011.

He was born March 4, 1943 to Harm and Grace (Mulder) Kettwig, who preceded him in death.

Kenny is survived by four sons and their families, Jeff of Hudson, Steve and Curt of Clarksville, and Shawn of Mason City; one daughter and her family, Shelly Martin of Charles City and his sister Betty Shelton and her family of Pensacola, Florida.

There will be no funeral services.


John Jay Dircks

John Jay Dircks, 39, of Allison, Iowa, passed away March 19, 2011, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa. He was born January 29, 1972, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William “Bill” Joseph Schmitz and Rena Schmitz. John graduated from the North Linn High School in Troy Mills, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Kris Thompson on January 8, 2005, in Allison, Iowa. John owned and operated Ag Concrete Specialist in Allison. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison.

John enjoyed cooking, snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting and spending time with his friends and family, especially his granddaughter Chloe.

He is survived by his wife Kris Dircks of Allison, daughter Kate Johnson of Waverly, son Alex Johnson of Allison, daughter Penny Jaylyn Dircks of Marion, granddaughter Chloe, mother Rena, brothers Randy, Scott, Steve and Jeff (Kelly), sisters Jolene (Tim), and Billie Jo (Cory), many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and two great nephews.

John was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his father Bill. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. Burial took place in the Allison Cemetery. Pastor Gary Mulder officiated the service.

Anna M. Bartell

Funeral Service for Anna M. Bartell, 92, of Herman, Minnesota was held Monday, March 28, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Herman with Rev. Mack Carlson and Pastor Mickey Olson officiating. Organist was Lois Bartell with special music provided by Todd Bartell.

Pallbearers were Anna’s Grandsons: Brian Bartell, Todd Bartell, Shane Olson, Tyson Bartell, Tom Kellen, Charles Enriquez and Glenn DeVold. Honorary Pallbearers were Anna’s Granddaughters: Lisa Kellen, Tricia Bartell, Andria Foster, Tiffany Enriquez, Stacey Olson Julie Bartell, Stephanie Bartell and Sarah Olson, and all of Anna’s Great- Grandchildren. Interment will be in Eden Reformed Cemetery, rural Herman, at a later date.

Anna Mae Bartell was born May 24, 1918 in Butler County, Iowa, the oldest of eleven children born to Jacob and Emma (Hinders) DeGroote. She was united in marriage to Herman Walter Bartell on September 26, 1935 in Norcross, Minnesota.

 To this union five children were born; Robert Herman, Neva Jane, Gerald Roylan, Janice Ann and Patricia Jane. Neva Jane passed away shortly after her birth. The couple farmed southwest of Herman, Minnesota where Anna resided until shortly after Herman’s death on March 30, 1976. The couple worked hard together farming and raising their children. They were members of the Eden Reformed Church in Herman, where Anna taught Sunday School. Anna married Richard Bartell on November 26, 1977 in Wheaton, Minnesota. The couple resided in Herman. Richard passed away on March 26, 1992.

Anna was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed spending time feeding and watching birds. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. God and family were extremely important to her.

Anna passed away peacefully on March 24, 2011 with family at her side, at the Stevens County Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota.

Anna is survived by four children: Robert (Janice) Bartell of Madison, Minnesota, Jerry (Barb) Bartell of Herman, Minnesota, Janice (Jack) O’Connor of Fargo, North Dakota and Patti (David) Olson of Farwell, Minnesota, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Jake (Donna) DeGroote of Bristow, Iowa, three sisters: Dorothy Jans of Clarksville, Iowa, Darlene (Frank) Vance of Clarksville, Iowa and Alice (Jim)Jacobs of Allison, Iowa.

Anna was preceded in death by her Parents, Jacob and Emma DeGroote, Husbands, Herman Bartell and Richard Bartell, Daughter, Neva Jane Bartell, Great-Granddaughter, Kiara Foster, and Siblings: Hilda, Annette, Ruth, Hank, Clarence and Wally.
