Grace I. DeVries, 94, of Dumont passed away February 22, 2006 at the
Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. She was born November 24, 1911, in
Cleves, Iowa to Wubbo and Hilda (Bakker) Viet. Grace attended rural
country schools in Butler County. She was married to John J. DeVries on
June 25, 1930, in Waterloo. Grace was a homemaker. She enjoyed
gardening, flowers, sewing, crocheting, fishing, cooking and baking. She
was a member of the West Fork United Methodist Church. Grace is survived
by four daughters: Matilda Christensen of Bevier, Missouri, Hilda
Kreimeyer of Bevier, Missouri, Marian and husband Donovan Worley of
Greene, Carla and husband Daniel McVicker of Bevier, Missouri, one son:
Kenneth and wife Bonnie DeVries of Hampton; two sisters: Jennie
Gronewold and Tillie Hicken, both of Dumont; sister-in-law Loretta Viet
of Dumont; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grand-children, 17 great-great
grand-children, 9 step-great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one
son, Larry DeVries, two sisters: Martha Wubbena and Alice Siems, three
brothers: Pete, Herman and Wubbo; two grandchildren, two great
grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2006 at
the West Fork United Methodist Church with Rev. Elsa Lawry officiating.
Special music was provided by pianist, Debbie Yount accompany-ing
soloist, Glenda Thomas. Pallbearers were Ben DeVries, Randy DeVries,
Keith DeVries, Rick McVicker, Kevin Worley, John McVicker, Steve
Christensen and Dennis Christensen. Final resting place was in the
Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Tillie Muller

Tillie Muller, age 84, of the Maple Manor Village, Aplington, Iowa, was
born the daughter of Henry and Jantena (Luppen) Bakker on April 11,
1921, in Aplington, Iowa. She received her education and attended the
Aplington School. On November 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to
Jake Muller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their
home in Aplington, where Tillie lived her entire life. To this union was
born two sons, Keith and Terry Muller. Tillie worked for United
Telephone Company as an Operator from 1943 to 1946. She returned to work
in 1955 and became Chief Operator in 1959. She was the last operator to
put a call through before the company went dial in December of 1961. She
worked at the University of Northern Iowa in the food services for 18
years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First Reformed Church
in Aplington. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and cross stitching.
She very much enjoyed having coffee and visiting with her friends.
Tillie died Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the Maple Manor Care Center
in Aplington, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her
husband Jake on December 2, 1963; her parents; one sister, Alice in
infancy; and four brothers, Fred, Harm, John and Melvin Bakker. Tillie
is survived by two sons, Keith and his wife, Sue Muller of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa and Rev. Terry and his wife, Laura Muller of Adams, Nebraska; five
grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She loved her family very
much and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral
Services were held 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2006 at the First
Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating.
Organist was Lois Wessels. Vocalists were Donna Kramer and Tony Poppens
who sang “One Day at a Time” and “He Was There All The Time”.
Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Face to Face.”
Casketbearers were Tim Ubben, John Bakker, Doyle Kramer, Dennis Rops,
Wade Bertram and Kelly Kramer. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery,
Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in
charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to family.

Harold E. “Buster” White

Harold E. “Buster” White, 78, of Clarksville and formerly of Waterloo,
died Friday morning, February 24, 2006 at his home. Harold was born on
April 10, 1927 in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Karl LeRoy and Jessie
Pauline (Page) White. He attended school in the Waterloo School
District. In 1943, Harold went to work for the Rath Packing Company in
Waterloo. He was united in marriage to Doris R. Fleshner on June 28,
1958 at the Shell Rock Baptist Church. The couple made their home in
Waterloo where Harold continued to work at Rath Packing until retiring
in 1983. Harold enjoyed collecting classic cars and hats and especially
spending time with his family and friends. Harold is survived by his
spouse, Doris of Clarksville; one son, Karl White and his wife Sharon of
Nashua; one daughter, Kara McGee of Clarksville; two grandsons, Phillip
and Dale White of Nashua; two sisters, Dorothy Singer of Cedar Falls and
Frances Wright of Waterloo; and by several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Roger McGee; one
sister, Gladys Merrick; and by a step granddaughter, Nicole Taylor.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 28, at the Clarksville
Church of Christ with Val Swinton officiating. Burial was in Garden of
Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Edward Dwayne Lauber

Edward Dwayne Lauber, 74, of Bunnell, FL, formerly of Waterloo, died
Monday, February 20, 2006, at the Flager County Hospital in Bunnell, Fl.
He was born April 23, 1931 in Grinnell, a son of Harry and Alma (Walker)
Lauber. He received his education and graduated from West High in 1949.
He entered the United States Navy May 23, 1951. He served on the USS
Diamond Head with overseas duty of three years and nine months.
Following his discharge on May 4, 1955, he returned to Waterloo, where
he worked for Titus Manufacturing and later Waterloo Industries. He
moved to Florida in 1982. Edward is survived by his brother Ronald
(Marlene) Lauber of Greene and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Harry Lauber Jr.
Private Inurnment services will be held at a later date conducted by
Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene. Expressions of sympathy may be directed
to the family at P. O. Box 445 Greene, Iowa 50636-0445.

Richard S. “Richie” Roeder

Funeral services for Richard S. “Richie” Roeder, 35, of Charles City,
formerly of Greene were held Tuesday, March 7 at Reid’s Funeral Chapel,
Greene with Pastor Tim Platt of the Clarion Church of Christ
officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Richard
Scott Roeder was born May 7, 1970 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in
Waverly, a son of Herman Henry and Allene Ruth (Shannon) Foell Roeder,
and died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at his residence in Charles City. He
received his education at the Greene Community Schools graduating in
1988. During and following high school he worked at Maxson Frudden
Lumber Company in Greene. He worked for Winnebago Industries and metal
scrap salvage in Charles City. Richie enjoyed reading western novels,
watching television and movies. He liked to go hunting and fishing,
cooking, and spending time with his friends. Living family members
include his sister: Arlene (Jerry) Lockwood, four brothers: Arvin
(Jeanne) Foell of Ames, Alvin (Lori) Foell-Macklenburg of Manly, James
(Vicki) Roeder of Thompson, Gary Roeder of Nashua, Thomas Roeder of
Missouri and many nieces and nephews.* * He was preceded in death by his
parents, and four brothers: Allen J. Foell, Albert J. Foell, Bruce
Roeder and John Roeder. . Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene was in charge of
arrangements.

James Smith

James Smith, age 96, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born July 26, 1909 the
son of Henry and Thursa Croot Smith in Jeffers, Minnesota. He received
his education in a country school near his home. James was united in
marriage with Viola Brandt February, 1931 and later they were divorced.
James then married Mary Meinders in May, 1957. Mary died in 2001. James
farmed for many years near Aplington, Iowa. He was a flying farmer in
the 40’s and 50’s with his plane kept on the farm. After leaving the
farm, he worked as an electrician and as a farm hand. He also loved to
travel and camp. He was a handy-man and enjoyed time spent in his shop.
He loved to tell stories. James died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Cedar
Falls Health Care Center, of heart failure. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Mary on August 12, 2001; his parents; two brothers, Edward and
Raymond and one sister, Marion Frey. James is survived by two sons,
Elmer (Ana) Smith, Tampa, Florida; Kenneth (Donis) Smith, Cedar Falls,
Iowa; three grandchildren, Roxanne (Don) Botic, Fremont, Nebraska; Kim
(Jeff) Thompson, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Scott Smith, Higginsville, Missouri;
four great-grandchildren, David and Stephanie Berry, Mattie and Kallie
Thompson, Siera and Chase Smith; one brother, Henry Smith of Aplington,
Iowa; stepchildren, Harriet Finer, Clear Lake, Iowa; Jean (Bob) Brown,
Forest, Canada; Lloyd VanEllen, Waverly, Iowa; Judy (Charles) Meyst,
Southfield, Michigan; Bob (Nancy) Meinders, Aplington, Iowa; 12
step-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services
were held at10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Redman-Schwartz
Funeral Chapel in Aplington, Iowa with Mr. Russell Nesbit officiating.
Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “It Is Well with My Soul” and
“How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were Ron Smith, Scott Smith, Jeff
Thompson, Bob Meinders, Kenny Tack and Lloyd VanEllen. Honorary
Casketbearers were Ervin Haan, and Darrell Brandt. Interment was in Oak
Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home,
Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to
the family.
