MEESTER

Judy Kay Meester, age 65, of Dike, Iowa, was born the daughter of Paul and Whilmena (Viel) Adelmund on September 19, 1941, at home in Parkersburg, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1959. Judy was united in marriage with Luverne Meester on November 20, 1959, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg. Following their marriage they made their home in Parkersburg. Judy spent the first years of their marriage home caring and raising her family. She began working at Plastronics, Inc. (now known as NCM, Inc.) in 1973 in Grundy Center, Iowa, as a Machine Operator and retired in 2002 as the Shift Foreman. Judy was active in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Grundy. She loved her family very much and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She was a NASCAR fanatic and her favorite drivers were Dale Earnheart Sr. and Dale Earnheart Jr. She had season tickets for the Texas Motor Speedway that she never missed. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters whenever possible and a more recent trip they took to Germany and Europe. Her children remember her in the most loving way as a strong willed woman who did things her way and did it out side of the box. Judy died Thursday, December 14, 2006, at her daughter’s home in State Center, Iowa of lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband Luverne in May 11, 2003; her parents; one brother, Vernon; and one sister, Pauline Davis. Judy is survived by two sons, Rick (Esther) Meester of White City, Kansas and Brian (Penny) Meester of Dike, Iowa; one daughter, Karla (Brian) Newton of State Center, Iowa; five grandchildren, Dustin, Christopher, Amanda, Mike and Eric; one step-granddaughter, Melody Drake; three step-great grandchildren, Aaron and Russell Drake and Brandon Fernandez; and five sisters, Wilma (Abe) Conrads of Cedar Falls, IA, Linda (Jim) Luzzadder of Cedar Falls, IA, Carol (Pat) Adelmund of Minneapolis, MN, Sandra (Robert) Adelmund Wood of Minneapolis, MN and Rita (Larry) Vetter of Hudson, Wisconsin. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, Iowa with Pastor Russell Muilenburg officiating. Organist was Carolyn Stahl. Dave Blackburn read “Thoughts and Memories”. Special Music was “Lead Me, Guide Me” and “If We Never Meet Again” - Elvis Presley. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Casketbearers were Bob McIntire, Ron McIntire, Mark Lamfers, Mike Lage, Bob Fisher and Jeremy Buss. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa with Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice, Marshalltown.


FRIELING

Clarence Frieling, age 85, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Paul and Martha (Harms) Frieling on April 29, 1921, near Melvin, Iowa. He received his education from a rural country school near his home. Clarence was united in marriage with Frances Irene Wilkens on February 17, 1948, at the Christian Reformed Church near Allison, Iowa. They made their home near Holland, Iowa for a year and then Parkersburg until 1965. They moved and live for a year in Prescott, Arizona. The rest of time they lived around and near Parkersburg. Clarence worked primarily as a mechanic through the years. He worked for the Ford Dealer and Massey Harris Tractors for Vernon Kyle both in Parkersburg. He also drove a milk truck, hauling milk for the Creamery in Fern, Iowa. Clarence then worked as a mechanic for Larry Lange car dealership in Cedar Falls. Clarence was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. He enjoyed sewing and quilting. He loved to go fishing, earlier in his life he enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, and later fishing in Clear Lake and salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. In his spare time he enjoyed wood working and construction and the home where they live now was originally built by Clarence for Frances’ parents. He also spent many hours gardening. Clarence died Friday, December 15, 2006, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, after being injured in a fall at his home. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; his parents; one brother, Herman Frieling; and one sister, Mary Henze. Clarence is survived by his wife, Frances Irene Frieling of Parkersburg, Iowa; one daughter, Linda (Carl) Lauer of Mountain Home, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Kim (Ted) Junker of New Hartford, Iowa; two grandchildren, Justin and Brea Lauer; one sister, Mabel (George) Viet of Grundy Center, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Dena Frieling of Allison, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at the Christian Reformed Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Frank Pott officiating. Organist was Charlene Kramer. Vocalist Stan Thompson sang “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden”. Honorary Casketbearers were Justin Lauer and Blake Harris. Casketbearers were Ted Junker, David Wilkens, Kevin Wilkens, Gary Frieling, Duane Wilkens and Josh Harris. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Flower Committee was Kathryn Karsjens and Ida Folken. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


JOHNSON

Edward L. Johnson, age 86, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John W. and Nancy (Bohlen) Johnson on July 20, 1920, rural Butler County, Aplington, Iowa. He received his education at a rural country school and Bristow High School. Edward served in the United States Army in 1945 during World War II and was overseas in the Pacific during the war. During his service he received the Good Conduct Metal and was honorably discharged in 1948. Following the war he was stationed in Germany. Edward was united in marriage with Maria Reimer at the Military Chapel in Nuremberg, Germany. They began their trip back to the United States in September of 1948 and moved to Parkersburg in November. Edward worked at Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, Iowa. He had to take an early medical retirement in the late 70’s. Edward always kept busy and enjoyed helping Mike on the farm for many years. Edward was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkersburg and had served as a Church Councilman, taught adult Sunday school, was the church secretary for a time and had sung in the choir. He was a member of the V.F.W. (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the Parkersburg American Legion. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren whenever they participated in sports, music, band and drama. He was particularly proud of his great grandchildren and always loved being with them. Edward enjoyed going to Iowa State football games and after every game the family would have a picnic together. Edward died Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria Johnson on July 13, 2002; his parents; seven brothers, Harm, John, Peter, Clarence, Donald, Lawrence and Eugene Johnson; and two sisters, Talena Alberts and Jeanette Aukes. Edward is survived by two sons, Paul (Kathy) Johnson of Nevada, Iowa and John Johnson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Susan (Mike) Hosch of Parkersburg, Iowa; six grandchildren, Luke and Ben Johnson, Kimberly (Wade) Taylor, Patrick (Heather), Peter (Amanda) and Sarah Hosch; four great grandchildren, Cassidy, Haley, Claire and Quinn; and two sisters, Lydia Bartels of Aplington, Iowa and Nancy Carpenter of Riviara, Arizona. Funeral Services were held 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Dan Finn Officiating. Organist was Bernita Nicklaus and Vocalist was Stan Thompson singing “On Eagles Wings” and “Silent Night, Holy Night.” Congregational Hymns were “Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful” and “O Holy Night!” Casketbearers were his Grandsons; Patrick Hosch, Peter Hosch, Luke Johnson and Ben Johnson. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa with full Military Rites Conducted by Parkersburg American Legion Post # 285. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


MARSH

Funeral services for Maxine L. (Hill) Marsh formerly of Marble Rock, were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2006, at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Maxine L. Hill was born June 7, 1912 at Charles City, a daughter of Orlando and Norma (Winn) Hill and died Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at the Arbor Springs Care Center in West Des Moines. She graduated from the Charles City High School and married Leon B. Marsh, in September 1933. They farmed southwest of Marble Rock until 1971 when they retired into town. To this union was born a daughter, Diane Elizabeth. In November 1993, Maxine moved to West Des Moines to be near her family. Maxine was a faithful member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church and was active in the UMW. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Diane (Robert) Nandell of West Des Moines, two grandchildren: Kara (Philip) Berg of Des Moines, David (Heather) Nandell, of Johnston, three great grandsons: Connor Nandell, Andrew Berg, and Harrison Nandell, and one great granddaughter: Samantha Berg. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents.


KLOOSTER

Herman “Bud” Klooster, age 84, of Aplington, Iowa, was born June 7, 1922, the son of Jacob and Heika Bakker Klooster near Geneva, Iowa. He received his education in Austinville Grade School and Aplington High School. Herman was united in marriage with Henrietta Miller on February 3, 1942, in the First Reformed Church parsonage in Aplington, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm east of Aplington where they lived and farmed until their retirement and move to town in 2000. He taught catechism at the Ackley Christian Reformed Church where he also had served as a Deacon, an Elder and served on the cemetery board. Herman was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. He loved his grandkids and the time spent with them. Herman enjoyed planting trees and growing flowers. He kept the bird feeders full and watched the birds come to it. In general, he was a hard-working man who enjoyed his work. Herman died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Klooster, five sisters, Tena Kole, Alice Kolthoff, Hermina Johnson, Jenn Frey and Gertrude Renken; one son-in-law, Paul Koenen; one niece and two nephews. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Henrietta Klooster, Aplington, Iowa; one son, Kevin (Marilyn) Klooster, Parkersburg, Iowa; three daughters, Diane (Arthur) Schipper, Waukesha, Wisconsin; Judith Koenen, Bristow, Iowa and Patricia (Thorval) Verrips, Woodward, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2006 at First Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Harlan DeJong Officiating. Organist Marilyn Poppens. Congregational Hymns were “In The Garden” and “Joy to the World.” Honorary Casketbearers were Scott Koenen, Wendi Peterson, Becky Verrips, Courtney Klooster, Shelly McGill, Shawn Koenen, Seth Koenen and Stacia Koenen. Casketbearers were Brent Schipper, Joel Schipper, Steven Koenen, Evan Verrips, Kirk Klooster and Kent Klooster. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


DEBOWER

Anna Marie DeBower, 80, of Allison, Iowa, passed away December 22, 2006 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Home in Charles City, Iowa. She was born September 10, 1926, in Allison, Iowa to Harvey and Anna (Johnson) DeBower. Anna was baptized at an early age in the St. James Lutheran Church where she was also a member. Anna is survived by her brother Ernest and wife Eileen DeBower of Waverly, sister Norma Bruns of Allison. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Anna (Johnson) DeBower, sister Lila Brodbeck and brother Delbert DeBower. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating. Special music was provided by organist Robin Morton accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were James Bruns, Mel Bohlen, Butch Harms, Don Henrichs, Kenneth Johnson and Ronald Westendorf. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


FITCH

Wilma Pauline Fitch, 84, of Allison, Iowa, passed away December 18, 2006, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Wilma was born April 7, 1922, in rural Bristow, Iowa, to Henry and Dorthia (Edeker) True. She was baptized May 7, 1922, at the Vilmar Church and confirmed in 1937, at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. She attended school in Bristow. Wilma and Chester Fitch were married on December 30, 1945, in Greene, Iowa. To this union two children were born. Wilma and Chester farmed, and in later years she worked as a custodian for the Allison Schools retiring in 1992. Wilma did charity work for the elderly in the Allison area. She was very active in St. James Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She loved her grandchildren and was a wonderful mother. She will be very much missed by everyone. She is survived by her daughter Beverly and husband Thomas Sutter of Commerce Township, Michigan, daughter-in-law Vina Fitch of Winterset, sister-in-law Gazina True of Waverly, three grandchildren Dawn, Heather and Jane and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester in 1995, son Harlan, brothers Elmer and Floyd and sister-in-law Harriet True. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating. Special music was provided by organist Vivian Green accom-panying the congregational singing. Ushers were Melvin Bohlen and Robert Wubbena. Pallbearers were Larry Miller, Scot Henrichs, Dean Wiegmann, Ronnie Russell, Dana Uhlenhopp and Charles H. Mosher. Final resting place was in the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
