Trena Geraldine Dreesman

Trena Geraldine Dreesman, age 73, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of George and Gebke (Kruse) Kampman on June 19, 1932, on a farm in Butler County, near Allison, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Allison High School in Allison, Iowa in 1950. She continued her education at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa, where she earned a Certified Nurses Assistant degree. Trena was united in marriage with Melvin Dreesman on November 15, 1950, in St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Through the years Trena worked seasonally at the former O’s Gold Seed Company near Aplington, Iowa and the canning factory in Ackley, Iowa. She also worked at three nursing homes, Maple Manor in Aplington, the Presbyterian Home in Ackley and the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care as a CNA. They lived and farmed in the Parkersburg and Allison area and in 1981 they moved to their home in Parkersburg. Trena was a member of the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. She enjoyed camping with her family and her favorite place to go was Black Hawk Park in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She liked birds, especially Cardinals and she enjoyed crocheting pot holders. She loved making cinnamon rolls for the family and the football team. Trena died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dreesman on December 21, 1993; her parents; and three brothers, Jacob, Bert and Harry Kampman. Trena is survived by four children, Red (Jo) Dreesman, Darlene Dreesman and Don Dreesman all of Parkersburg, IA and Lois ( Jerry) Ohlendorf of Waterloo, IA; two step-grandsons, Todd (Liz) Pruisner and Chad (Heather) Pruisner; three step-great grandsons, Luke, Michael and Jace Pruisner; one brother, Heyo Kampman of Allison, IA; two sisters, Alma (Orville) Roth of Sumner, IA and Caroline (James) Haag of Waverly, IA; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Kampman of Clarksville, IA. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in the Hope Reformed Church, Parkersburg with Rev. Neal Ooms officiating. Organist was Cathy Myers. Special Music was “I Can Only Imagine” and “I’ll Fly Away”. Congregational Hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were Dennis Eckhoff, Russell Haag, Gary Kampman, Daryl Dreesman, Micky Dreesman and Joe Sheridan . Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Flower Committee was Rachel Sampson, Dort Kampman and Jo Krusey. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Jennie Gronewold

Jennie Gronewold, 91, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away June 22, 2006, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. She was born February 24, 1915, in Franklin County, Iowa, to Wubbo and Hilda (Bakker) Viet. Jennie attended rural country schools in Franklin County, Iowa. She was married to Tjabring Gronewold on October 9, 1933, in Kesley, Iowa. Jennie was a homemaker and a member of Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. She enjoyed embroidering and spending time with her family. Jennie is survived by her son Wilbur & wife Joanne Gronewold of Ackley, son John Gronewold of Dumont, sister Tillie Hicken of Dumont, sister-in-law Loretta Viet of Dumont, fifteen grandchildren, fifty-five great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Reka, one son Herman, son-in-law Robert Kampman, four brothers Pete, Herman, Wubbo and John, three sisters Alice Siems, Martha Wubbena and Grace DeVries, and sister-in-law Arlean Viet. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2006 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Jack Ritsema officiating. Special music was provided by organist Jim Siebrands accom-panying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Wendell Kampman, Wayne Kampman, Jeffrey Gronewold, Douglas Gronewold, Jerald Gronewold and David Gronewold. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Mary Wefel

Catherine Mary Wefel, 80 of Waverly, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at her home in Waverly, Iowa. Catherine was born on December 9, 1925 in Dougherty, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Sinnwell) Hermann. She was united in marriage to Glendor Wefel on February 22, 1946 in Greene, Iowa. Together the couple farmed for many years in the Plainfield area. In 1981, the couple retired from farming and moved into Waverly after which Catherine worked in the cafeteria in the Waverly School System. Glendor died in 1986. Catherine enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening and also traveling with family and friends. Catherine is survived by her four daughters, Norma Thiese of Guttenberg, Iowa; Barbara Tielbur of Early, Iowa; Ellen Boyd and her husband, Bill of Midland, Texas; Marcia Rima and her husband, Neil of Nevada, Iowa; one son, Mike Wefel and his wife, Janet of Plainfield, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glendor, three sisters, Irene Uetz, Bernice Metz, and Delores Hermann; two brothers, Arthur Hermann and Earl Hermann; and one son in law, David Thiese. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waverly, Iowa. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. There will be a 7:00 pm Scripture service on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
Margaret Rebecca Louise Majewski

Funeral services for Margaret Rebecca Louise Majewski, 89, were held Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Msgr Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Greene. Margaret Louise Gates was born October 13, 1916 in Marble Rock a daughter of Henry and Emma (Reams) Gates and died June 23, 2006 at the Hospice Unit, Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City. She received her education in Marble Rock and graduated in 1934 form Marble Rock High School. Margaret was united in marriage to Merle Daiker in 1939 at the Methodist Church in Marble Rock. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska where they lived until Merle’s death in 1947. Margaret moved back to Marble Rock and later married Merle Majewski in 1952. Together they made their home in Greene. Merle passed away in January of 1978. Margaret remained a resident of Greene until her death. Margaret enjoyed playing cards, swimming, and sitting on the river bank watching the boats. She was a wonderful cook and always looked forward to her Memorial Day picnics with family and friends. Margarets had a passion for cats and rescued dozen of them during her life. She leaves behind her favorite cat Calley. She is especially grateful to her son, Martin, for years of faithful companionship. She is preceded in death by her spouses, parents, and four brothers: Bernard, Lloyd, Guy and Darrow Gates. Living family members include two sons: Tom(Joan) Daiker of Charles City, Martin Majewski of Greene, and one step-son Don(Mary)Daiker of Greene, two granddaughters: Tami(Paul) Halverson of Rochester, MN, and Amy (Brett) Werger of Minnetonka, MN, Five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Matthew and Alaina Halverson, Beauen and Emersen Werger, two nephews: Dale(Ramona) Gates of New Hampton, Chuck Gates of Nashua. Dale Raymond Miller

Dale Raymond Miller, 89, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away June 28, 2006, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa. He was born April 20, 1917, in Parkersburg, Iowa to John and Lena (Bohlen) Miller. Dale attended Ripley #4 school near Aplington, Iowa. He married Leona Mennen on April 3, 1942, at the Bethel Reformed Church Parsonage in rural Aplington, Iowa. Dale was a farmer and drove school bus for 27 years. He was a member of Dumont Reformed Church. Dale enjoyed feeding hogs, milking Brown Swiss cows for 40 years and was the Township trustee. After moving to town, he enjoyed feeding birds and mowing his lawn with his John Deere lawn mower. He is survived by his wife Leona Miller of Dumont; son Wendale L. & wife Diane Miller of Dumont, son Gary A. & wife Sheila Miller of Dumont, son Dalen D. & wife Deb Miller of Dumont, daughter Leann K. Miller and fiancé Tim Boge of Manchester, foster son Lonnie & wife Angie Wygle of Vinton; sister Lucille Peters of Aplington, brother Paul & wife Berdine Miller of Waverly; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and sister June. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Jack Ritsema officiating. Special msuic was provided by organist Jim Siebrands accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Troy Miller, Ryan Miller, Jason Miller, Jess Miller Josh Miller, Clay Miller, Adam Wygle, Cory Miller and Erran Miller. Bessie Margaret Mullen

Funeral services for Bessie Margaret Mullen, 93, of Greene were held Friday, June 30, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church, Greene, with Pastor Roger Crawford officiating. Burial was in the Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Bessie Margaret Woodside was born February 15, 1913, in rural Geneva, Franklin County, a daughter of William Henry and Kathryn Maude (Woodley) Woodside, and died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. She received her education in the Public Schools at Hampton and rural schools near Dougherty. She graduated from the St. Patrick Catholic School in Dougherty in 1930. On March 3, 1931 she was united in marriage to Abraham Leonard “Bud” Mullen at the Presbyterian Church at Rockwell. They farmed in the Dougherty and Rockwell areas until 1948 and then farmed in the Marble Rock and Greene area until November 1972 when they moved onto their present farm at the edge of Greene. Following Bud’s death on October 2, 1992, Bessie continued to live on the farm until entering the Liebe Care Center in 2005. Bessie will be remembered as a good cook and one who enjoyed crocheting, reading and reciting Poetry. Throughout the years she has written poetry of her own. Bessie’s greatest love was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who she accepted as her own on August 9, 1981. She was baptized August 22, 1982 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Greene. Living family members include her two daughters: Mary Ann (Cecil) Myers of Greene, Betty Jean (James) Larson of Wapello; one son: Daniel (Carolyn) Mullen of Greene, 19 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchcild, and many more who called her Grandma; one sister Vivian Laken of Delevan, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: Edward and Franklin, infant grandson: Harold Abraham Myers; one brother Emmett Skinner; one sister: Gail Ries and Oma Simmons. Heyo R. Kampman

Heyo R. Kampman, 79, of Allison, Iowa, passed away July 6, 2006, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. He was born December 26, 1926, in rural Butler County, Iowa, to George and Gebke (Kruse) Kampman. Heyo attended rural Butler County country schools. He married Anna Folkerts on June 9, 1948, at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. They farmed together in the Clarksville area until 1952, then continued farming in the Fairview and Vilmar areas until retirement in 1990. After retirement he enjoyed working for farmers in the area, and for the past nine years he took great pride in mowing the Butler County Fairgrounds. He enjoyed going to the Butler County Fair, auctions and to the sale barn. He loved his family, farm, church and community. His three trips to Germany to visit relatives were highlights of his life. Heyo was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Farm Bureau. Heyo is survived by his daughter Beverly & husband Joseph Sheridan of Decorah, daughter Janice & husband Kit Bowerman of Issaquah, Washington, grandchildren Jared & Jordan Sheridan and Adam Bowerman, sister Alma & husband Orville Roth of Sumner, sister Caroline & husband James Haag of Waverly and sister-in-law Arlene Kampman of Clarksville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Jacob, Bert and Harry and one sister Trena Dreesman. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Robin Morton accom-panying soloist, Shirley Wubbena. Pallbearers were Mike Salge, Jay Schrage, Tim Schrage, Rick Wehrhan, Gary Kampman and Duane Folkerts. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Leonard Wiegmann

Leonard Wiegmann, 89, of Dumont, passed away Monday, July 3, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Leonard was born on March 2, 1917, the son of Conrad and Sarah (Wessels) Wiegmann. He received his education at rural country schools in the Bristow area. Leonard was in the United States Army from 1941-1945, during which he served a tour of duty in the Philippines during World War II. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Kramer on October 18, 1941 in Kirksville, Missouri. To this union five children were born. Leonard worked as a hired farm hand until entering the military. After his return, he began farming in the Bristow area where he farmed until he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grand-children. He also enjoyed gardening, baking, having coffee with neighbors, working in his tool shop and helping others. After retirement, he loved going to go-kart and stock car races. Leonard was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. Leonard is survived by his five children: Nadonne (Lenis) Buseman of Charles City, Earl (Pam) Wiegmann of Dumont, Ronald (Linda) Wiegmann of Mason City, Rhonda (Jim) Howe of Nora Springs and Jolene Wiegmann of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren: Steve (Lorie) Buseman, Duane (Billi) Buseman, Shelly Buseman & fiancé Jason Parson, Amy Wiegmann (Jake Feuerhelm), Carla (Adam) Holm, Cory (Sara) Wiegmann, Troy (April) Wiegmann, Tami Wiegmann (Tony Pals), Jodi (Kevin) Willemsen, Tracy (Tim) Anderson, Dustin Howe; eighteen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; three sisters: Bernice Krull of Greene, Irene Harlan of Iowa Falls and Darlene (Tootie) Benken of Morrison and sister-in-law Edna Schrage of Allison. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, his parents, one brother, three sisters, twin great granddaughters and two nephews. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying the soloist, Shirley Wubbena. Pallbearers were Steve Buseman, Duane Buseman, Troy Wiegmann, Cory Wiegmann, Dustin Howe and Tony Pals. Honorary pallbearers were Jodi (Howe) Willemsen, Shelly Buseman, Tracy (Howe) Anderson, Tami Wiegmann, Amy Wiegmann and Carla (Wiegmann) Holm. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John Dale Tuder

John Dale Tuder, 35, of Jesup, Iowa, passed away July 15, 2006, in Jesup, Iowa. He was born July 9, 1971, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Norman and Jan (Prause) Tuder. John graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa. He married Martine Slater on March 30, 1995, in Hampton, Iowa. John worked at Pork Haven Inc. in Jesup, Iowa. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers, racing and enjoyed his nieces, John enjoyed grilling and cooking and making up his own recipes to try, he was also a member of the Jesup Golf Course and the Clarksville Church of Christ. John is survived by his wife Martine Tuder of Jesup, daughter Jami & husband Garth Green of Dexter, daughter Britney Tuder of Omaha, Nebraska and her fiancé Peter Buller and their son Elijah Buller, mother Jan & husband Ron Scally of Allison, father Norm & wife Judy Tuder of Evansdale, sister Carmen & husband Keith Wiph of New Hartford, sister Jennifer & husband Tom Rooney of Hampton, and children Brittany Davis, Justina Davis, Nichole Gruelke, Tessa Rooney and Terra Rooney, maternal grandparents Ed & Leola Prause of Hampton, and step grandmother Alma Scally, step sisters and brothers Mandy Scally, Tiffany Scally and friend Nick Jorgensen, Ron Scally Jr., Patty & Larry Lester, Mike & Lisa Wells, Dave & Dawn Wells, Tony & Brandi Wells, Steve & Kim Wells. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents. Memorials may be directed to the family. Funeral will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the clarksville Church of Christ with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Val Swinton will officiate the service. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4- 8 P.M. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison.

Florence A. Boomgarden, 84, of Bristow, Iowa, passed away July 12, 2006 at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville. She was born August 14, 1921, in rural Allison, to Harm and Kate (Henrichs) Arjes. Florence attended rural Butler County Schools. She married Ruben Boomgarden on March 2, 1949, in Allison. Florence was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. Florence enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering and enjoyed her family. She is survived by her daughters Bonnie & husband Jerry Hahn of Cedar Falls and Joyce & husband Ken Leisinger of Shell Rock; son Steve Boomgarden of Bristow, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Scott & Angie Hicks, Ashley & Codey, Corey & Traci Hicks, Mason & Callie Leisinger & Will Engelbrecht, Brittney & Zach Diercks; sisters: Rena Arjes of Clarksville and Marjorie Harms of Allison; brother Kermit Arjes of Parkersburg. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, John Harm and Harlan, two sisters Lavon and Anna. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jeffrey A. Blank officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying the congregational singing. Flower committee was Greta Bean, Carol Franken and Gladys Boomgarden. Pallbearers were Scott Hicks, Corey Hicks, Zach Diercks, Will Engelbrecht, Bernard Franken and Jerald Heeren. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Floyd Melvin Vanderwerf

Floyd Melvin Vanderwerf, age 75, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Peter and Loretta (Stockdale) Vanderwerf on September 29, 1930, in rural Hardin County, Ackley, Iowa. He received his education from a country school near his home and graduated from the Ackley High School in 1947. Following graduation Floyd began working at the Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, Iowa. Floyd served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 through 1954. During this time he served overseas in Korea for a year and was honorably discharged. When he returned home from the service he continued working at Rath. Floyd was united in marriage with Marlene Van Ellen on October 29, 1955, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church parsonage in Ackley. They made their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, until 1999 when they moved to their home in Aplington. Floyd worked at Rath for 34 years, primarily in the smoked meat department. He also worked at the Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls, Iowa, until his cancer illness. Floyd was a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington, the Cedar Falls AMVETS and the Aplington AMVETS. Through the years he enjoyed bowling, winning singles and doubles bowling tournaments, fishing, traveling and always kept himself busy. He especially enjoyed all of the family activities they shared together. Floyd died Monday, July 10, 2006, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, from complications of cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Floyd is survived by his wife, Marlene Vanderwerf of Aplington, IA; three sons, Randy (Patti) Vanderwerf of Champaign, IL, Jeffrey (Kathy) Vanderwerf of Carrollton, TX and Scott (Tammy) Vanderwerf of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter, Vicki (Bob) Burtlow of Hedrick, IA; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; three step-great great grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald (Alice) Vanderwerf of Des Moines, IA, Lawrence (Pat) Vanderwerf of Cedar Falls, IA and Luverne (Sheila) Vanderwerf of Acworth, GA; and two sisters, Lorraine (Bob) Stemler of Des Moines, IA and Beverly (Harvey) Oelmann of Ackley, IA. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2006 at the First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Holy Ground”. Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”. Casketbearers were Daniel Miller, Roger Arends, Dennis Vanderwerf, Eric Van Ellen Darrel Van Ellen and David Lindaman. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa with Full Military Rites conducted by Aplington AMVETS Post #102. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Hildegard “Tillie” Toombs

Hildegard “Tillie” Toombs, 92, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away July 12, 2006, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. She was born April 18, 1914, in Elberfeld, Germany, to Paul and Selma (Kullmann) Fern. Hildegard attended schools in Germany. She married Lawrence Toombs on July 17, 1947, in Ventura, Iowa. Hildegard worked at the furniture store and the drug store in Dumont as a sales clerk. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont, and also a member of Rebekah Lodge and the Legion Auxiliary. Hildegard is survived by her brother Walter Fern of Sun City Center, Florida, nephews: Harold Willson of Apollo Beach, Florida, Russell Willson of Lake Forest, California, nieces: Gertrude Wilken of Dumont, Geraldine Ruth of Clarksville, Florence Williams of Clarksville, Verna Barton of Olympia, Washington, Judy Johnson of Chardon, Ohio, and Jean Gilliam of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lawrence in 1961 and one brother Paul, two sisters Clara Willson and twin sister in infancy. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont with Rev. Douglas Tharpe officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Beryl Reed accompanying soloist Karla Wheeler. Pallbearers were Ralph Ruth, Jim Ruth, David Wilken, Tom Wickham, Wayne Williams, and Owen Kolstad. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
